Great teacher! I highly recommend him for any class you can take. He's very intelligent and that makes you get into what you're studying. He's outgoing and willing to listen & help you, if needed.
This professor is TIGHT!! His lectures are fun and interesting since he uses everyday life examples that we can relate to. GREAT PROF!!!

Easy class, easy tests, but he doesn't really teach anything. All information is in the text, but he does not go over it and instead gives primitve, trivial, labs and classwork. He oranized everything so he has to do nothing, very lazy. waste of time

He is very COOL! If you do your homeowrk and come to class - you will get a good great! I took him twice already and I like the way he teaches his class. It is not boring - no boring lectures, but fun assignments and labs.

Class was VERY straight forward. Just put in the minimum amount of effort and I got a B+ out of it, not bad.

Its true, he's very easy, but its also interesting! Only thing that sucks is you have to go to class every day because of in-class assignments (but those are real easy too!). Never read book, just did study guide (terms and fill in the blank). Studied 1/2hr before the exam. Fun class!

Lopez is awesome. his class is really easy. tests are mostly common sense, just go over notes 1/2 an hour before class and you will do fine. you do have to come to class because there are in class assignments but they are easy too. Class is actually really interesting. Take him!
I was very disappointed in both the professor and the class. Policing Society could be a very interesting class, but instead it was made apparent Lopez didn't care about the class. It seemed like he was only there to get paid. The students taught the class...easy A, but a waste of time otherwise.
Tremendously boring. Can get 280 out or 280 on exams and show up to every class and do all assignments but end up with a C and no explanation from him. Assaults rap music and anything else he doesn't like. Cocky, should go back to his other job, something on 24. No class interaction, bad for student

A very good professor. The work was easy and he practically gave us the answers. You do have to read the book or else nothing makes sense, but the reading is easy going. Would definitely recommend his class.

Awful profesor. Straight out told the class all he cared about was getting paid, that the class was a self-taught class. Material is easy but very hard grader. He is ****ing nuts!! and that is that I got a B in the course.
Read the chapter, study for the test ithe morning of, you'll be all right
he is okay. I dont like the fact we have 14 exams during the course. If your not an exam person than don't take soc 150 with him. Otherwise, the class was cool.

14 weeks of school, 14 chapters, 14 tests. thats about it. his lectures cover 2% of the chapter. all up to the student to read and understand the chapter.
Let's just say that we learn on our own and try to figure out what the 14 tests are going to be about. His lectures only cover a small section from a 20 page chapter. 14 tests, no midterm and no final.
He don't teach the students anything about the class and he just expects you to know every little detail in the chapters you are to be tested on. If you get him change him!!!!!!!!

the homework is real easy. the tests are worth 53% of your grade (orig 73%) but he changed it because people kept failing. i wonder why. if u use questions from a textbook that nobody has, people will have a tendency to fail. how about the test questions and book match. then it would be an easy A.
I hated this professor at first! But i grew to love him. ALL you have to do is read the text! You learn a lot trust me! Besides, shouldn't we be reading the test anyways? ha He took us to some goth club that rocks. He may put up a mean front, but he is the sweetest if you go talk to him!
He monitors this site!!! last sem when I look in this wedsite he graded easy. However, he made his class harder this year for an intro class. I read all of the chapters and really studied. It was really imposible to get an A in his class. The thing was he doesn't go over the whole material and he has a lot of unecessary facts questions in the test
I completely agree with the comment below this one. This is not an easy A class. He gave us 14 exams, and you must read the book thoroughly to get an A. You practically have to memorize the chapter to get an A. He asks trivial questions for the test. This class is very, very tricky, and it is more for people who are good at reading and memorizing.
He is a fair grader and is very intelligent. Because I took this course, I am doing amazingly well in my other sociology classes and am a SOC major because of him. Whiners need to drop out and work at the mall. He is so helpful, clear, and responsive, I loved the class and always will have good memories of it!!
Got a few laughs out of the guy, but his lectures were pointless and you had to read the long-ass chapters in order to do well on his multiple choice tests. If you think multiple choice is easy, then he is asking the wrong questions. The videos were cool, but the class was a waste of my time. Tuesdays test, Thursdays lecture.
Scares you at first but you learn to deal with him cuz you don't have a choice. You have to READ A LOT which translates to a new chapter each week which is overwhelming. You have a test on each chapter plus 6 crime scenes reports, grades hard but you do learn. This is a challeging class especially with him. Take it if you want to be challeged.
WOW this guy is a ****!! Cold as Ice. just makes you read the book and then take a test. His lectures dont matter becouse he is just saying the same thing thats in the book. AVOID THIS MAN!!!
This class was really ****! Here's my thing...his lecture has nothing to do with the book nor the test. There is a test every week on a diff chapter. Take someone else...this guy is not a good professor at even... (I passed the class though).

He doesnt really teach, yeah the class is based on the tests, but he has a lot of questions that can go either way, when you fight them he tell you you are right...once in a while thats great, but every test to have to fight answers...isnt he the prof? Shouldnt he be finding these mistakes? Not to mention he was not pleasent!
It's very clear that he's phoning it in for absolutely every lecture. Makes little attempt to hide that he's just here to pick up a check. Pointless, elementary lectures, insipid films, poor attitude. Got an A by showing up, I like to be challenged and engaged just a little more than that.
I hated having to take a 50 question test every week in this class. He doesn't even show any kind of empathy for how bad everyone must be doing in tests. Why does a professor need to draw this kind of attention on himself? Avoid him. I don't know how I passed, but I think I did b/c I alot of other people must have flunked, so there you go.
this is a hard teacher. tests every week (but no final). since we met 2x a week, one class was to barely touch on some terms. BARELY. and next week test. for the past 3 months, he actually hasn't even taught a class. just online stuff and tests. Take this class if you're the type that can just read the book and do well on a test.

omgaaa seriously this guy is here for the $$$ and THATS IT. if u cant make it to his 1 hr of office hours a week then ur screwed...u never know ur grade the whole semester. no appts, no email, nothing, hes such an ass. the 50 ques tests every week are straight from the book but u gotta read everything and remember names, details, etc. he def sucks.
the first class meetings he is very serious and seems mean. you have a test every week, but the good thing is that you don't have to worry about having a midterm or a final. Plus after a couple of classes he's not so bad, he even tells some jokes. This class isn't for people that don't like reading the book, you MUST read to do good on the tests.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS JERK! he doesn't teach anything whatsoever.. might as well just stay home and read. i dont see what the whole point in going to class was.. all he does is try to be funny and act all tough.. sorry guy, but you suck!

Here's how his class breaks down. Lecture on thursday, quiz on tuesday. Lecture on thursday, quiz on tuesday. Basically, come to class on thursday, do the credit assignment. On monday night, do the chapter in the study guide and you'll be fine. He's kinda funny, but other than that you are completely meaningless to him.
This guy is by far the best professor I have ever had during my soc major. Classes usually have a Tuesday-lecture theme and Thursday-quiz theme. Quiz is only on one chapter each time! He also digs industrial (Electro/ebm) music! I gave him my WW2 goggles as a parting gift. Super nice guy and will always try to help you out if you have a prob
he does not help you unless you go to his office hours which are like two... I studied but felt that because I didn't have the study guide i did poorly. He knows his material but doesn't know how to express it unless its an activity and then guess what you better study Thursday there's a test!
Easiest class ever, every weekly quiz has 10 multiple choice questions that are based on the definitions at the end of each chapter. All you need is to memorize that 5 minutes before class. His general attitude is crap, he has no personality, poor teaching style, doesn't give any lectures and made us watch movies 3/4 out of the semester.

Go to class on Tuesdays, 5 point assignments done in class, then every Thursday you have an online test. I read the chapter the day of the test every week and got A's. You can use the book. Seems a little like an internet class. But he was helpful when you went to his office hours. He is protective of his time, but he should be.
Class was held every Tuesday with tests on Thursday online. Use the book on Thursday tests & it is an easy A. Class was rarely held for the entire time, usually let us out early. But if he makes a mistake on the test, you have to go through this long process just to get that point back. Tuesday classes had assignments, so go to that class.
Tough, this professor is not easy at all. You have to read the chapters very thorough and reread them again. His exams questions are very difficult and confusing. May be its because I took the course for winter session but, ragardless I had to earn my grade. If you want to read a lot take the course.
Very easy class. Class was every tuesday(which he let us out early most of the time) and on thursdays you take an online test which is extremely easy since you can use the book. And if you take it with a couple of classmates you will easy get an A since when you finish the test it gives you the answers which you can share with others. u still learn
He is very organized and a really nice person. On tuesdays we had in class assignments...so you have to attend if you want those points. Thursdays class met online (and you could be anywhere you want) to take an exam on a new chapter. i recommend his class.

This class is pretty easy if you read the book. At first Prof Lopez seems like a jerk but hes pretty laid back. I only went Tues, and Thurs was online test so i could use the book. Attendance only mandatory for the assingments.
Not a difficult class but you must read the book for a total of 15 exams. The exams are online and require at least 1hr every Thursday to take. Personally to many exams for a 3 unit class.
the class wasn't that difficult. you have to take 16 exams, one for each chapter. the exams require you to read the chapters pretty thoroughly. he provides course notes for each chapter as well. he grades on a curve. i got mostly b's on my exams, but ended up recieving an a.
This professor is too easy! I did not even need to buy a $100 textbook (even though he said I did need to buy it). I did extremely good on the online quizzes based on the powerpoints he provided. It seems like this professor is just lazy to actually teach anything. NOT A GOOD professor. We shouldn't pay someone like this to "teach".

This was an easy class, but the professor is horrible. he does not teach.. he plays videos some times or speeds though ppt's. he only teaches once a week so good luck with questions outside of class. emailed him once and he didnt even answer my question and reply a week later.
He is awesome. Took his class online over summer.. it was the best and easiest class I have ever taken. Move at your own pace and just do online quizes and finish them within the time period. Honestly take him if you want an easy summer or you have a huge workload during the semester and need an easy class!
Fun and Interesting class. One 30 question online exam every week, 14 total, and total number of grade points is determined by ho gets the highest overall. Easy A!!
I took this class online during the winter intersession and it was truly the hardest, most time consuming class I've ever had. The material was interesting and the professor grades on a curve(which is nice) but just prepare yourself.
Most important thing I can tell you about taking this class not online is if you don't learn from reading the text book, or don't read the the book at all, DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS. He spends 20 minutes one class a week running through his ppts, and the rest of that day showing worthless videos. The next class is a quiz... Horrible teaching style!
I took this class online and got an A. There's no assignments, just tests which are ok but you really need to book to answer them. The book is expensive, so go check out a copy either from the public library or CSUN. Just make sure it's as recent as you can get-mine was 2009. Don't bother reading lecture go straight for the book and you'll be fine.
Really wasnt crazy about this class and ended up with a not-so-good grade. He's cool and the book was alright but the readings for the test are constant(every week) and worth 60%. Missed one test and couldnt retake it which brough my grade down a bit.
Avoid him if it's online. He's uninterested in teaching and unavailable mostly. Also: 16 chapters with 16 multiple choice exams, 60 questions each. That's 960 incredibly difficult multiple choice questions that are written to intentionally throw you. Or just written badly? Hard to tell, really. Either way: Don't do it. It's a nightmare.
HARD! Took this class online over summer and wow it was hard! No class interaction. No homework/assignments, just 16 tests that each had-60 multiple choice questions. Took me the full 2 hours per test. Questions were EXTREMELY difficult! Was not able to get above a C on any test. Would not recommend.
He is a horrible teacher and no help at all. Considering we pay A LOT of money to go to this school and if it wasn't for the students the teachers would have NO jobs,teachers should be more respectful. Although he was useless, the class was easy.
He looks intimidating at first but his class was interesting. He is clear about what he is required of you in order to earn a passing grade. Every week we had a quiz on each chapter of the book and inc lass assignment. Class Assignments are easy, quizzes can be easy if you read the book and study. I recommend this professor.

It sounds like it takes alot to get a good grade in the class, but the book is very interesting (looks like a magazine) and he keeps the class interesting and fun :-)
Attending class is mandatory. You must have the book and read weekly in order to stay on track with the quizzes each week. Discussions are interesting. There is no final, but quizzes will count for a chunk of your grade

I went into this class expecting to hate the professor. Lopez has to be the best professor I have ever had. Took this class online. Expect a quiz and discussion question due at the end of every week. If your really interested in criminology, it will be a breeze to read through the material. Con: He doesn't interact with the class. I felt like I didn't learn anything, just read the material, took the quiz and forgot about what I just learn. Easy A.
All the powerpoints he posts are helpful, but I still needed the book to find some material. It's all pretty much 40-question tests online, along with a forum post about each chapter.
According to this professor online forums are equivalent to cumulative combined test scores. As an online class you would expect to see where your points are reflected, no he likes the mystery. My B went to an F for a misunderstanding in the grades online and his syllabus. Absolute most ILLOGICAL professor I have ever taken.
I took this class online and it was really straightforward-there is 1 online forum and 1 online test per week. While this class was easy, Prof. Lopez didn't interact with us at all. Rather, I depended more on the powerpoints & the book (which I found on amazon for $7). Then again, the material is straight forward and clarification isn't needed.
Easy online class. 1 quiz and discussion forum each week. Gives two tries on 120 minutes for 40 question quiz. You have to turn in each forum or will drop grade. If you complete each forum, will leave grade as is with only quiz grades graded. No final exam. Don't really need textbook if you're not going to read. Can find answers online.
Overall it was an easy class because It's at your own pace. There are weekly chapter tests so need the book! Read the whole chapter and then take the test. Can take the test twice. Weekly discussion forums. Test can be a bit difficult because each chapter is about 30-50 pages but that's why it is important to read carefully. Received an A. Easy!

Your entire grade is made up of weekly quizzes and participation assignments that he gives each class meaning that attendance is 100% mandatory. Extremely easy and interesting class. Make sure to study your notes AND read from the textbook and you will get 80% or above on the quizzes. Must take!!

GREAT PROFESSOR!! If you're trying to just take an easy A general definitely take his class. It's all based on weekly quizzes and you can find all the answers either in your book or online and he gives you 2 attempts. SO EASY it's literally impossible to not get a good grade.

I took this class as an online GE for social sciences. I did not know him but his directions are pretty cut-clear. Read the chapters and do the quizzes before 11:59 PM on Friday. Other than that, easy class. No final, no homework. Nothing difficult.

i took it online, and it was super easy !! do not buy the book. some of the questions can be found online. he gives 2 attempts for each quiz with same questions. just match the correct answer with other classmates and you should get an A. no paper, no final, no midterm, no test; only 14 quiz and one for each week
Dr. Lopez seemed intimidating at first (reading the syllabus) but he is the coolest professor I've ever taken. He is so helpful in any area you need. He has experience in law enforcement which makes his lectures SO interesting! Such a fun class, quizzes are kinda hard so STUDY!
Having a quiz every single week was overwhelming for me. Although he provided study guides and the test questions were exactly the same, taking a test every class wasnt for me. I have taken a very good amount of Criminal Justice classes and he is by far my least favorite. He thinks hes funny when in fact hes quiet rude at times with his cruel humor

He tends to talk pretty slow and sometimes drift away from the topic but that gave me enough time to write down the notes from the power point, which was helpful for me. Study the study guide he provides for you and just memorize the answers and it's an easy A.
He's the best professor I've had at CSUN. I took him for Soc355 and Soc454 and passed with an A in both. His class is very easy IF you attend and take all the notes, especially in 454 because the class is solely based on the lecture. Participation is key as he will remember you and appreciate you more, which will be good for you later.
Took his online class and it was really easy. There was just a quiz every week about the assigned book. Buy the book online and you'll pass (Control+F) Lol He helps round your grade but only if you email him by the last week of the semester. No Homework or online lecture.
No papers, no cumulative exam, every class there is an open book quiz on a chapter the class was supposed to read. Lets you out like an hour and a half early, very short lecture. He definitely knows what he is talking about but not really related on the weekly chapter quizzes which are open book anyway. He lectures a bit and then we take the quiz and we can leave. Prof Lopez was extremely fair with grading. Take the class with a friend to help you! 14 quizzes, you have an entire week to do each one - 40 min/ 20 qs. You have 2 attempts. When you turn in the first one, you find out your score, but dont get to see what was wrong. So keep track of the ones you arent sure of for your second attempt. EASY A!

I would not recommend this class to anyone. It is mandatory that you assist class. He does not give make-up exam even if you were absent due to sickness and have a doctors note. Always remember to sign and write your name on quizzes exactly as he asks or he will count you absent. This professor is very rude when you ask questions. NOT RECOMMEND!

probably one of the worst professors I've had in my college career. we met only once a week and our entire grade was based on weekly chapter quizzes. this guy has the audacity to cancel class like 5 times and wouldn't round my 89% to an A. that's 5 quizzes the class missed! a majority of the class was stuck at C's and D's DO NOT TAKE HIM TERRIBLE
this professor is awful. We met once a week and our grade was based off weekly quizzes (4-6 questions MAX so if you mess up One question you fail) based off the lecture the week before. No textbook, just his words. He cancelled class 4 times so thats 4 quizzes we missed. No final. No midterm. No open book. Talks back to students.
SAVE YOURSELF PLEASE! He does not grade accordingly you need 93 to get an A, and so on. You absolutely cannot take any sick days or make up any missed work (of course unless youre a student athlete) but he will cancel class 15 minutes before! The entire class is 20 point quizzes each day and thats it. He took summer a month early by just cancelling
TERRIBLE! If you have the choice to take any other professor please do! He had a tendency to cancel class 10 mins before, WASTE OF TIME & GAS! Doesnt lecture and goes off topic no one knew what was going on so people stopped going! Weekly quizzes based on each chapter 20 questions with no room to get any wrong if you want an A! Dont miss a quiz!
Dr Lopez is one of the most disorganized teacher I have ever had. There was no structure course plan. He'd wing his lectures and he cancelled class 8 times without prior warning. Entire class was based on one 15 quizzes which were not base on his lecture AT ALL. They were base on our home readings. He is the worst!
The class was online and were only 14 quizzes. There is a quiz due every Friday, except on Holidays. But the quizzes were kind of hard. You really have to read the material and take your time.
Beware his grading scale is terrible. You need a 96% and above to get an A. He doesn't teach the material and you're basically on your own preparing yourself for his quizzes. His quizzes were also pretty confusing and there was times he didn't grade them correctly.

Do NOT take this online class. He bases it off of 2 exams the whole semester and thats it! He doesnt even have the notifications enabled on Canvas to tell you when exams are due, so you have to rely on the syllabus. You missed the test? Too bad. No extra credit and no makeups whatsoever. His grading scale is completely off too. Not helpful
two exams only thats your grade, he might change it because if you dont remember when the exams are you will forget about them and fail automatically. No makeups or extra credit, everything is said in the syllabus. Its college what do you expect, you have to be responsible, I bought the ebook made everything easy. He has resources listed.
If in the beginning of the class you get 42 points on the test (out of 50) but you slowly improve, to getting (average of 49/50 on tests), it doesn't matter because it averages to a B+ in the class. He cancels class 5 min before it starts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the worst professors I've every had at csun. I am a straight A student, however he changed that. He's very rude and doesn't help when you email him! 2 exams only both are 100 points and very difficult! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! HE WANTS to ruin your GPA!!!!!
Honestly this class made my semester go smoothly. With other classes that requires so much reading and writing this isn't that type of class. Since its only a one day out of the week class its a quiz every week on a new chapter and its open book!! You can not fail! I recommend this to get a good grade for an elective.
Save someone's GPA. First, the grading scale is so off from the tradition grading scale most people are used to. I obtained 94% in the course and that equated to a B+. The online course was based on 2 Exams and the professor disabled the Canvas notifications so that you are forced to check the syllabus. Needless to say, he's the worst professor.
Dr. Lopez is a good professor in the sense that he is straight to the point. If you want to pass his course, just show up. He makes all of his quizzes open note and there is no midterm just one final, open note and, on-line! Also, the E-book is enough for you to use during the course. No need to purchase the book as well.
Although you only are graded on 3 exams, you better be getting 100% on all of them because his grading scale is weird. I thought I had an A because of my 94%, but that's actually a B so look at his grading scale! Other than that, he barely emails or talks to us so good luck!
His class is based on 3 exams. Each exam is has mixed questions from all the chapters. He hides the correct answers, so you can't know what you did wrong. His grading scale is retarded and many of his questions are not even in the book. Wouldn't recommend if you want to get an A. Also, he is very rude and seems to not give a crap about his students
you dont need to show up at all, if it's online though. he doesn't do zoom class, but you can join the discussion posts if you want, personally i never did. test is open note. buy the expensive textbook and you get an A if you read.
Really easy A. All quiz answers are answered in the respective chapter of the book. If you have online class, he doesn't use zoom but uses the discussion board and the chat. Every lecture is about the content for the next week's quiz and sometimes he just rambles. He is pretty chill and if you have the ebook, use Ctrl F to find quiz answers easily.
Super easy A. Weekly quizzes and no finals or midterms. Just use the lecture notes and it will help u word for word on the quiz. No textbook needed. Super clear syllabus.
