Really nice & understanding guy.

Dave makes the class very worth attending. The material that he covers is always very well explained and there is always a chance to clarify things if you are not sure on something. Hopefully Kwantlen keeps him on board teaching other classes..

Very good class. Tells you how it is with the most recent information. The only thing that I have to complain is that he does not three whole puch :)Other wise this is a class that you look forward going to.

This teacher is actually out to help the students. He teaches the material well, will answer any stupid questions, and will still want you to learn. He's a cool guys, but man, he gives alot of notes, but it's well worth it, atleast u know he won't fail u!

Nice, helpful guy. All notes are overheads. A LOT of overheads. Tests are not the easiest, but they're not culmulative. Three out of class assignments to boost your grade if you don't do so well on the tests. Lectures all relevant info from the text.

Super cool guy, tons and tons of overheads, but its ok, cauz you dont have to read the book, the tests are taken right off the overheads. Always lets us out 15 minutes early, one of the best profs at kwantlen

take him if you can... he's really good. fair marker... he makes sure you understand everything... he clarifies concepts very well. he lets you out 20 min early every class with a 5 min break. but be prepared to write lots in class. RECOMMENDED!!!

lots of overheads but you don't even have to write them down - he photocopies them and puts them on reserve in the library. Interesting lectures. Very "lecture-style" which is good. Barely any group work. Tests are pretty straight-forward.

Awesome Prof -- easy, helpful, and very clear. He has very good notes in class, some in-class group work, and informative assignments. He even puts all his notes in the library on reserve, so missing a class is not the end of the world.

very good teacher. u wont even have to touch ur book the whole semaster. everything in the exam will be coming directly from his class lectures. exams aren't hard either.

Take him if you can... seriously no need to buy the text book... i never even opened it up and i got an A- and i missed quiet a few classes. His notes are clear and easy to understand... but can kill your hand. TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent teacher - it's true that you don't have to read through that dry text book b/c all of his exams are taken right off the class notes. Very reasonable and nice guy..I highly recommend him.

Good prof. Looks like a student. Hes a cool guy easy marker, easy tests. You will get carpal tunnel syndrome there is that many notes. But all the notes is all u need for the test. Dont buy the book you dont need it and wont use it. take him for easy B-A

Easy class.Exams are fair.He marks fairly.Notes are concise;doesn't overwhelm u w/ lotz of notes.Examples used are easy to relate to. Helpful if u ask.Assignments pretty easy and fair.Not the most interesting class,but he's great!Class discussions are usually interesting. Deffinitely recommend him!

Excellent techer! If you attend all classes and study the notes you'll do great. Interesting assignments, like goign to court to watch cases.

Dave is an excellent teacher...study mainly the notes for the tests...his 2 assignments are informative and makes you learn how to research..his test are easy if you study his notes..good sense of humor, hott ;)

He is a great teacher who clearly outlined what he expected. Attend class and it's an easy mark - all of his tests are 95% based on lectures and when he lectures, all the major points are layed out on over head. Very nice guy, easy to talk to, and helpful.

Dave rocks!!! I agree with all the positive feedback on him. His lectures are great and informative and his exams are easy if you study the lecture notes!!! I never read the book and never got lower than an A-. Be sure to PARTICIPATE b/c those count!! trust me!! I got an A+!!...Awesome class..cant wait to take a class with him again!!

Loved the class!!! David is a great teacher. Very clear; notes are excellent, no need to read the textbook. Need to listed to everything he says in class. His remarks on class papers are very helpful for futher improvement.

The course is average difficulty. The midterm tests can be relatively difficult and tricky. He invites guest speakers and questions can come up on midterms. He is very helpful, and usually very clear. Easy marker for proj. & hard on tests.

In class, Dave's a pretty good teacher. However, his exams are pretty tough - either you know your stuff, or you don't. He rarely refers to the text, unless it's ON the exam (surprise!). His marking style is odd. He's a hard marker and expects students to go over and above what the assignments ask for... go figure?

GREAT GUY! Focus on notes not the textbook for the tests. Projects are fun and informative. Very enthusiastic about Crim and has guest speakers come in. If you miss a class, he has his notes on mykwantlen after class. Can't begin to tell you how amazing he is...

VERY TOUGH MARKER! He wants detail detail detail on his exams. Don't bother even getting the book, our class learned nothing from it. Class avg. was 61% & the "main proj." was worth too much, and he did not clearly state what he wanted from it. Basically work ur butt off, ull get a DECENT MARK. Nice guy tho and willing to help you learn!

Talks at a normal level and then STARTS SHOUTING. Really wierd. Not an easy class if you are a slacker. Felt it was too much work for an intro course.

ok people, this was the easiest class i've taken in a long time... i have no idea why people were saying that he was a hard marker. just pay attention in class and study!

Dave is a great teacher.....he is extremely helpful.....and super nice.....take his class.....i strongly reccommend him......such teachers are hard to find.....a great guy overall.....very willing to help you for studying.......Dave thank you for everything......your great....

i got c+ in his 1107, but still strongly recommend him_1 of the greatest teachers i ever had_u must attend his each class_go thru the text before the midterms & learn his notes which r also posted online!He'll mark what u deserve_so don't listen to other students who complain that he's a tough marker.pay attention during his lecture& be punctual.

A great professor. Knows the material well and gives clear explanations in his lectures. The course textbook was useless. His two midterms and final exam were base off his class notes. He gives good feedback on his assignments and gives good objective sheets to study from. I would highly recommend him.

Amazing prof! His explanations are clear and concise. He doesn't waste time. Everything he says it's relevant and he gives great current examples to tie the lecture together.Class participation is a must, he loves it and honestly, it's a fun class for an intro class. He's the kind of guy you're mom would think is hot, tall and ruggedly handsome.

Awesome prof, gives objective sheets to study from for exams which is super useful. Lectures are actually interesting, esp for an evening class! Don't miss lectures, he posts the PP but you need your own notes too. Take him for sure!!

Dave is such a great teacher. He's interesting, extremely helpful and really knows his stuff. He is SO clear with everything and gives great examples. I didn't need to use the textbook much, just for some definitions. He is just an all around nice guy. He's one of those teachers that just wants you to do well! And is very easy on the eyes. :)

Plain and simple, if you pay attention in class, do the assignments, study for the exams, you will get an A. He provides objective sheets in which he derives his exam questions from and his assignments only require marginal time if full effort is put in. Highly recommended.

I took petra for 2330. Ended up getting a b-, decided to take it again to get a better grade and i got a C with him. His m/c is easy, but his written is really hard!!! Just wants to much detail on it. Written is usually worth 50 percent of the test. I would'nt take him him again. Written portion of test arent my strengths.

Great Teacher, knows stuff interesting. Three tests worth 10, 20 , 30 percent, one 30% offender asssement on a serial killer which is cool, then 10% for participation. Tests easy if go to class and study notes taken, overall great class!

Probably one of the best Professors I have had at Kwantlen.

Dave is an excellent prof. His notes are clear and concise and his midterms are derived directly from them. 3 midterms(10/20/30%), 2 case briefs(10/10%), presentation (10%) and participation (10%). Class is an easy A if you go to class and study powerpoints.

I strong recommend this prof, he keeps the class interesting. I took two of his classes and was pleased with both classes and my final grade!

I highly recommend taking Mr. Lyon for any CRIM classes he teaches. This class was very enjoyable and just took a little extra effort on researching topics such as case briefs, moots, and torts (see UBC and McGill law sites). Read the assigned material and answer all the study questions and you will succeed in this class. Thanks Dave, great class!

Excellent teacher. I got an A and it was super easy to get it. It isn't because he is really easy but because he is a good teacher. He tells you exactly what he wants and his tests are straight from his notes. Go to class and pay attention and you are guarenteed a good mark

Dave is such a great teacher!He makes lectures interesting and is hilarious! His case brief assignments are a little hard, but he will gladly help you if need be. He answers his emails within 24 hours, most of the time within the same day. Tests are so easy, but you should study or at least listen in class if you expect a passing grade. Awesome guy

Dave is one of the best professors I have ever taken. Extremely bright and knowledgeable and he can communicate difficult concepts in an easy-to-understand manner. His is crystal clear with his expectations for all assignments and exams. He answers questions professionally, engages the class during lecture, is quite funny, and is just a great guy!

This guy is a great prof with lots of knowledge, he is always willing to help you if you show that you care. His tests are straightforward as he gives you study sheets in advance. For his class you need to work hard to receive a good mark and don't bother buying the textbooks you wont need them.

I would recommend taking Dave for Crim classes. He is an amazing prof. Lectures aren't boring at all. you'll enjoy his class! 2 examinations- 1 essay or assignment :D

David Lyon is an amazing professor in my opinion. He is very clear in what he expects, he keeps your interest in lectures and prepares you for the final exam with giving the long answer questions which may be on the test. Be prepared to do at least one group project in this class. He is always available help is needed during his office hours.

Dave is a great teacher, the course content is a bit boring especially in a 3 hour lecture but makes it fun and interesting. His tests are hard though, and is a very tough grader on assignments.

Dave is really good at teaching. He knows his stuff. He is always willing to help. If you study the material you will do good on exams and papers. If anyone is interested in working in the Criminal Justice System, I would recommend taking his class because he knows the ins and outs.

He is good as they get. He does care about you. He gives you many chances to discuss concerns and ask questions. Show up to class! His tests are very easy if you listen to his lectures. He explains thoroughly. He prepares you well for his tests. He is also somewhat funny too. Only con is that he talks as if he memorized a script for the class.9/10

Dave is an awesome prof! I have taken him a few times now. Dave is passionate about what he teaches. As well, he outlines tests and paper criteria very thoroughly so nothing is left in the dark. His lectures are always interesting and easy to follow along with. 10/10 would recommend!

If you pay attention and use study his objective sheets you will have no problem. There are no surprises on the exams. He pretty much tells you exactly what they will be on. He uses both lectures and textbook examples in the exams. If you participate you will ace that part of the class. Lectures are very interesting and interactive.

I really enjoyed the class and found the matter interesting. Dave tells you what is on the test and you just have to know the matter. He was flexible about where I took the final exam, ended up taking with another class due to scheduling conflicts. I learn a lot and would take other classes by him.

Attendance and participation is worth marks. He's really specific on his exams, so they're quite difficult in terms of long answers, make sure you know everything about the questions he gives. Lectures are fun and amazing, there's a 10-12 pg paper he assigns that's due in two parts

Dave is an awesome prof, he really cares about his students and the content that he is teaching. Even though I wasn't a fan of the content of the class he made it about ten times easier to learn. If you want to pass, follow the outlines he gives you, study ahead of time and don't skip class and you will do great.

Amazing professor. I've taken him 3 times now. He can be a tough grader but that should be expected. Don't half ass your assignments, cause he will notice. Overall, great during lectures, and its not dry at all. Fav prof at KPU.

One of the best at KPU. Makes sure assignments are clear to us; only 1 in this class so do it as he says and that'll boost your grade. He gives sheet's to help study for exams, so no surprises there. Show up, participate, take notes and enjoy the class. When help is needed, he's there to help, just an email away. The textbook is needed.

I've taken classes with Dave twice now an he is incredibly clear in his direction and explanations. He is very fair, but not forgiving. A true professional. His finals and assignments are very content heavy, even though at a glance they may look like a breeze. (I think he used to be a lawyer so his wording is just very dense). Favourite prof yet.

Got 97-100% on all exams in this class and just under 90% on the paper....I think he marks tougher on papers than most profs but exams he tells you exactly what to study. This class had lots of material so don't think you can get by with just a little studying. If you can't grasp the content through his teaching style you just might be stupid.

Prof Lyon is amazing! The way he connects concepts are brilliant. For the midterms and final, you get study sheets for each chapter. Loved writing the paper in this class, really had a lot of fun with it. Just know that he is a firm but fair prof. Don't expect him to serve you everything on a plate. Put in some work of your own and you will do well

Provides clear exam prep sheets to help you prepare for exams. If you study off of those, tests will be fairly easy. Lectures are interesting. Participation & attendance counts. Explains concepts really good & provides good feedback on exams (3 including final) & one paper spilt into 2 assignments. Great prof.

Dave is one of my favourite profs at KPU. He does a great job at explaining some difficult concepts and his examples make them even easier to grasp. He is super accessible and responds quickly to emails (he will respond to your "thank you" email, so nice). You can tell he genuinely wants his students to do well. I look forward to taking him again.

3 tests in this class. The good thing is he gives you a test guide. two papers, and participation does matter. He's really funny and is good at lecturing. Tests are a lot of information to study for. overall he's a great prof and I would take him again.

All the lectures in the class were very interesting. He is a very good speaker and knowledgeable in the subject. Gives very clear feedback and the tests are easy if you pay attention in class. Unfortunately classes went online halfway through the semester because of Covid, but he still posted excellent lectures to the website. 100% would take again

Dave is not only a great prof, but you can tell he genuinely cares about his students as well. He explains everything very clearly, usually tagging concepts with a specific example or story related to it. This small detail/add on made SUCH a difference to my memory and made it that much easier to remember the concept later on.

Dave is caring, engaging, approachable, and a wonderful lecturer. His class setup was awesome and I learned a lot. I hope to take him again in the future.

Over time I have come to appreciate his course structure and simple method of teaching. Dave displayed course material in simple terms, and used concepts that made understanding far easier than some of the profs I have had since. If I could pick Dave as a prof for my 4th year courses, I would. Put in the work, you'll get a good grade.

Dave is honestly one of the best profs I've had. I always took any class that he taught. As long as you participate, and put in some effort you can easily succeed with a B in his class.

One of my fav professors. The grading criteria is very clear and his exams are the easiest, you only need to see the objective sheet for chapters and it tells you what exactly you need to study. Interesting lectures that make you want to learn more. Would definitely take a course again with him, if i have the opportunity.

Dave is extremely knowledgeable about the course content, his course consists of 2 assignments and 3 exams spaced out throughout the course and he provides objectives sheets for each topic, which lets you know what will appear in the exam just a note he is a little harsh on how you word your answers on exams even if your answer is correct Good Prof

his cheat sheets tell you EXACTLY what to read and what not to read for tests which make them almost impossible to fail if you pay attention to the lectures, he's also super helpful and funny, genuinely one of the best teachers I've had
