Tests are kinda hard but lecture and lab are awesome
Best teacher I've ever had. Fun stories (ADH story) that'll make you retain info
Good teacher. Pretty funny. Tests are pretty easy, if not tricky.
I Love Dr. Mallory but his tests are a bit tough. He definitely teaches you tho.
great use of examples, one of the best teachers I've ever had
Best teacher in the Biology Dept. Grrrr Sexy!
An awesome teacher-great use of analogies to drive the concepts home-take him!
Dr. Mallory KICKS!!! Funniest, nicest, and sexiest teacher in the college of science!
dr mallory is intelligent, interesting and funny. great teacher and he makes a mean chili. very cute
Definitely a HOTTIE!!! Really have to know your stuff to do good on test.
I love this class!!!!! Too bad he can't teach every class at Marshall :)
dr. malllory is a very good teacher. he uses simple examples to make you understand the material. he is very funny and a nice guy, who wants you to learn the material and will go over it until you do.
Dr. Mallory ROCKS! plain and simple. He is great!
Very good teacher. Love him!
Great professor. Have taken classes just because he teaches them and I know he can explain ideas in a way I'll understand.
tests are insanely hard, although he is more than willing to explain what you dont understand. He is definitely the best looking professor on campus, which gives you the motivation to go to class.

He speeds through lectures and goes too quickly to explain the material as well as he should. His tests are impossible. They don't test what you know, they trick you out of what you know. Exams are multiple guess. Lab was great, but lecture was miserable.
I liked him a lot but he could be confusing sometimes. I think he needs to SLOW DOWN in his lectures. I still learned a lot from his class and overall I think he's a good teacher.
Dr. Mallory is a great person. He door is always open to students with questions. Very fair....test are hard and even if you know the material still might not do well. Make sure you get to know this man and you will be fine.
He's a good teacher in general but goes too fast and his tests can be hard.
This class isn't very easy, but not very hard, either.
Dr. Mallory is very helpful, but he is incredibly hard. His lectures go so quickly that you can't hardly take down half of what is said. His tests are incredibly hard and don't follow his notes very closely. I love Dr. Mallory though. He is funny and very willing to help you learn anything you ask.
VERY unorganized. He goes so fast, it's hard to take down half of the stuff he says. There is just no structure to the class. Stuff that is clearly not in the current book and in the notes WILL show up on tests. I think he confuses stuff he taught us w/ stuff he taught others. HARD CLASS.
This class is not a piece of cake at all! Dr. Mallory is a great guy though, really funny, nice and more than willing to help, the labs are required and you stay the whole time each week. TESTS ARE TOUGH
This class is tough. Studying the notes and reading the chapters will not get you very far on the exams. A person must be able to fully grasp each concept in many different forms. Simply cannot memorize, must be able to apply in ways you would never think to. He has a good personality, but is HARD.
This was a tough class. The tests are about as hard as they come more b/c of how the questions are worded than the material itself. There were also things about him I liked. He was enthusiastic, funny, and more than willing to help. I recommend him for that, but you will be so glad to get out of this class.
Fun, energetic, enthusiastic. Truly loves teaching and puts his students above all else. Often criticized by admin for not publishing constantly, but then admin has clearly lost sight of TEACHING. He is an excellent lecturer, exams are tough but fair, and he treats upper level students as peers rather than inferiors. One of the best at Marshall.
the tests were crazy, and he does go very fast.. so bring a tape recorder... but he's so nice to look at.
great teacher. he never surprises you on a test. if you study what he talks about in class you will make a 100
Wonderful class!!
I found the material to be pretty tough, but he made it really interesting. His tests are hard but he explains everything and doesn't give you questions about minute details. I'd defenitely take him again for some other class that he taught. As long as you review the material and study hard, everyone should do well.
Definitely doesn't give you the proper information for his tests. His study guides are useless because he doesn't go from them. Be prepared to spend a ridiculous amount of time on the material. Nice, intelligent, but not a good teacher. Makes his tests very hard for no other reason to trip you up. Understands that this is a "weed out" class.
Can be a rough class if you get behind or don't attend class. Weekly quizzes turn into monthly quizzes -- if the class average goes down, he starts getting more generous. Tests are representative of the material he covers in class, but the wording can be a bit tricky sometimes (pay attention!). Three exams plus a comprehensive final.
Notes are completely unorganized and usually not usable on test day. The tests are equally as vague. Very nice guy, but has a very hard time conducting his lectures and tests in a way that is conducive to learning. Overall poor class.
This is an extremely hard class, but Dr.Mallory is awesome. He tries to make it interesting and uses great examples to get his points across. The only downside to Dr.Mallory, is that he does not curve grades, does not give extra credit, and does not drop any grades. He is a very nice and funny professor though.
An extremely unorganized professor.
I took this class during the summer and I think that made a difference. Don't get me wrong, I studied a bit. It was, or so i thought, an easy class; a memorable class.
Pretty easy class. Writes on board. Easy to take notes. Definitely hot...
Honors Seminar on Substance Abuse - Very interesting class taught by two very capable instructors. Mallory brought a lot to the class with his physiology expertise and did an excellent job condensing a whole year's class into several lectures. Sometimes disorganized, and the class suffered from no grade feedback, but overall enjoyable.
Taught as if everyone knew the material. He is funny & gives some anecdotal stories to illustrate principles occasionally. Didn't fully answer questions in class, even when others ask the same question again. The tests were sadistic, with very minute differences between answers. Someone needs to tell him it's not a Master's level course.
Dr. Mallory is GREAT! Very easygoing & laidback...prepare to know material & study. He is very helpful & makes material understandable and relatable. He is pretty free-spirited & leaves learning up to you, no biology course is easy, so don't expect to miss class or not take good notes & get a good grade... it shouldn't be that way anyway!
Awesome Professor! I would definately take another class that he teaches. He is very helpful and cares for the students. Very interesting, and makes the class a lot of fun! This is a very hard class and the tests are hard but he does everything in his power to equip you for the test. This is the professor to take for Physiology! A++++++++++++++++++
He's a fantastic professor! I would gladly take him again. The tests are hard, because the material is. He tells great stories to make the class interesting. He makes sure the class is casual and very fun. I would recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Mallory is a great professor. Cares a lot about his students. He is readily available. The material is hard, and so are his tests, but I've learned so much from him.
He is funny and tries to make class fun. He jumps around on the material a lot. If you don't have a strong basis in biology it is difficult, but if you do it isn't too bad. You do have to keep up and study quite a bit. The tests are tricky, but he does use scratch off occasionally.
Jumps around in the material making it hard to keep things straight. Tests are hard and there's usually more than one answer for each question. Doesn't put many notes on the board and doesn't use powerpoint. You better make sure you heard what he said and heard it correctly.
Physiology is NOT an easy course. However, Dr. Mallory tries to make it as easy as possible. Lots of analogies in lecture. Will help tutor you for hours is you come to office hours. Exams are REALLY difficult, but showing up for lab counts for lots of points. I had a 77% exam average and still received an A for a final grade.
He's a great professor! I would love to take any class with him again. This class is a hard one. If you are not up to the game don't play it. I think his tests are fair. If you go to class and listen to him, you willunderstand the material and that is the key for the A in this class. you just can't read it and get it. And if you reaaly listen, you
Great professor. I really learned a lot in this class. Also, since he asks lots of questions during lecture, it's easy to participate if you want. The tests are hard, but if you take good notes and study you can definitely get an "A".
Good lecturer for individual lectures, but pretty unorganized, so the class can be confusing. Tough tester, but keep up on reading and come to class and it's okay. Funny and interesting in class, and helpful outside of class.
Very hard class...important to attend...super hard tests, usually about 50 questions but the answers are difficult because it will b A.1 B.3 C.2 D. a and b E. all of the above
good teacher...hard tests
The class is hard if the student does not have a basic knowledge of biology prior to taking the course. Dr. Mallory makes the lectures pretty easy to sit through. All of the powerpoints were online but he didn't always use them in lecture. Attending class is very important.
This guy can teach like nobody's business. I am in pharmacy school now and I was very prepared some of the cocepts here especially the biochemistry of muscle contraction. He makes difficult conceptst very easy to understand and is an interesting lecturer.
Awesome Professor
Very good teacher, you need to stay up on your notes and reviewing them nightly, and reading to supplement as another angle. Tests are very tough, however, he makes the class enjoyable. He also made himself available for help, all the time. I'd reccomend him to anyone; nice guy.
He is such a great professor, but his class is difficult! He certainly tries to make you think and tries to change things up to help the students. We had a take-home exam where we designed a robot-so fun! The exams are very, very difficult and often include material additional to what was covered. He is very helpful/understanding. Highly recommend!
VERY hard professor, he wasnt clear on what was going to be on the test. I had to use all of my time out side of class using/ reading my book. alot of the material on the test was not covered in class. I attended this class every day. Never miss a class!
I had mallory for intro bio and animal phys. He is THE BEST teacher ive ever had. I learned so much I was able to breeze thro parts of med school thanks to him! He is challenging but he lets ppl keep their graded tests so theres plenty floating around that r a nice prep. I recorded lectures cuz he goes fast! But theres no need to get the bk
Way to hard. He did not give us power points for notes, he free wrote on the chalk board which most of the time is unclear. He's tests are ridiculous. The answer choices for every question will have you constantly second guessing yourself, nor tells you what will be on the exams. He does not believe in curving either. Do good in the lab!!
I wouldnt take his class unless you are prepared to fail. Tests are nothing like what he writes on the chalkboard in class and nothing helpful is given to you at all. Pretty pitiful way of teaching in my opinion.
Very Difficult. Not recommended.
He's a nice guy and tries to make class fun and funny but he doesn't have slides and just talks the whole class and writes on the chalkboard which is very unclear. He doesn't follow the syllabus and skips around the book like crazy but doesn't tell you the chapters he's going over. All tests were ridiculous. Do good in lab.
Dr. Mallory covers a lot of material during lecture, he says not to read the book unless there is something you do not understand however his tests are so in depth you really don't have a choice. If tests weren't so hard it wouldn't be too bad of a class.
Dr. Mallory is a professor that expects high levels of performance from his students. You EARN every point. Make sure to get an A in lab. Study hard for all quizzes, they're hard! Only a mid-term and final. Both are EXTREMELY hard. Get ready to give it your all, but if you do you will be prepared for classes that deal with physiological material
He is not an easy professor but you can pass if you study. Tends to get off topic during his lectures and does not follow along well with the book. He tends not to be helpful in his office but you can ask questions during class.
Funny guy but you'll either pass or fail. If you have some extra time to dedicate towards the class you might be okay. The tests are very difficult, get a tutor before it's too late. If you're failing by midterm, save yourself and drop. He doesn't curve anything. Lecture is 75% of your grade, lab is 25%. Get an A in lab!
Be prepared to study a lot, exams are difficult because it is based on the most correct answer even if the other answers are correct. Great guy, Great sense of humor, not my style of learning as far as staying on topic with lectures.
Dr. Mallory's class is nearly impossible to pass. It's not due to the depth, or volume of material. He talks quickly, and one must sift through a whole lot of talking to find a small amount of information that you'll find on your tests. He rarely makes his office hours & he has other teachers lecture for him, and even distribute his exams.
If you have this professor then get switched out. Extremely hard tests that are nothing like the lectures.. I even took practice exams from the EXACT book he was lecturing from and I knew nada. He gets off topic a lot. Goes through maybe 10 slides of the 95 in the powerpoint... just don't do it.
I had to choose between two professor and thought Mallory sounded the best. I PICKED WRONG. He hardly responds to emails, he doesn't let you know where you stand, and he missed lectures more often than expected. His test are miserable because he wasn't specific. He just was't helpful with anything honestly.
This was the hardest class I have EVER taken. He would post power points with almost 95 slides in all of them but then he would only lecture on 20 of those slides. He forgets what he actually talks about so when you get the test, it is on things he never went over. He never responds to emails either.
The worst teacher ever! He only goes over 11 slides out of 120 and then the tests are on nothing that he went over class and extremely hard. I only made it through the class because I'm pretty sure he scaled the last two tests. I never even saw the grade of the last two tests that I took.
Tape record EVERYTHING, take pics of his slides & get tutoring early. Wait until midterm and you're dead. Nobody really knows where his test questions come from because he posts 100 slides, but only shows 10-20 slides in class. Keep track of the ones he uses so you can study&study hard. Tests are specifically worded with multiple answers.
Dr. Mallory is a good lecturer and is able to keep the information engaging and interesting. His exams are SUPER HARD. Almost all questions have all of the above and/or none of the above options and it is very tricky. Make sure you get a good grade in lab because that will save you. You will learn a lot in this class, but be prepared to study ALOT.
Unorganized with lecture content. Not clear on what will be on the exams. Exams very difficult...
Very intelligent man. Really knows what he is talking about & explains information with real-life applicable examples, but does not lecture in same context as the exams that are given
Study what he talks about. If he talks about it it will probably be on the exam. Don't cry, it's your fault you didn't study. Get a study group with no more that 3 people. Rewrite your notes. Study last semesters exams the questions will be similar, and its very helpful. There is a YouTube video for everything you don't understand it class.
David Mallory gives hard tests that are pretty confusing. You really have to know your stuff and by that I mean he expects you to know what a certain thing does and doesn't do. His tests are all multiple choice which you think would make it easer but the class average on every test was anywhere from a 57-61 on every test including the final.
He's very friendly and will help you if you ask for it, but if you don't go you WILL NOT pass. He's always in his office and will help you any time. This is not a class that you can mess around in and expect to pass, but it's a good class to take. He wants to produce intelligent students to go into their field.
Worst teacher I've ever taken. My first dropped class! Lecture content is completely different than powerpoints. Powerpoints are up to 100 slides long, he will only go over 5-10 slides then says all PowerPoint info is testable. Tests are really hard, trick questions. Uses real life examples and terms during lecture then actual term names on test
Dr. Mallory is a very intelligent man. You can tell as soon as you hear him speak. Because of this he can be a little hard to follow, but he will answer any questions you have and is very helpful. His tests are legendary and you can't get away with skipping class and showing up just for tests. Put in the effort and get help when you need it
Dr. Mallory is good at explaining things, he gives good lectures but the powerpoints and tests don't fit with his lectures. The hardest tests I've ever taken in my life, never passed any of them. Ended up failing this class and having to take it again. I wouldn't recommend him at all. Steer clear.
Dr. Mallory is a fantastic teacher! He is always in his office for help and will answer any question you have. His tests are in a league of their own, he really challenges your knowledge. Going to class is a must if you wish to pass. I suggest a study group that meets at least once a week for an hour or two. Be ready to study and be challenged!
Worst professors I've had at Marshall university. He could care less how you do in the class or if you pass. I have utilized every available resource on campus and study for weeks before the exam, yet still can't pass his exams. Do not take him if you need this class for your major. He will be the reason I get kicked out of nursing school.
The worst. The class average was a D- if that tells you anything. He curved to keep the average from being an F. BUT a D is the same as an F when it comes to Nursing school, so I'm getting kicked out. Thanks for nothing. His tests were horrible. You can study your brains out and think u will do good and then fail! Dont take BSC 228 at MU!
Only points are tests, quizzes, and lab grades. Very scatterbrained and gets off topic easily. Tests are very difficult. If you read your text book, go to class, and study you can pass. This class is stressfully, but is manageable if you put time in to it. He does curve the class at the end of the semester.
Hands down hardest class I've ever taken so far at Marshall. I am a junior now and it was the only class I have ever thought I was not going to pass. I barely passed with a 70. He lectures well but the tests are impossible. Never passed a single one. Lab and quizzes saved me somehow. Do yourself a favor and don't take physiology at MU!!!!!
There are very few tests in this class and they are incredibly tough and are not always clear. Many times lectures will not match the tests and the tests will be overcomplicated to the point of impossibility.
He is a nice person, but not the best professor. Class is based on tests and lab. Lab TA's grade hard and the lecture test are hard as well. I do not recommend him!
Mallory was a great person in general, but made the class very very hard. The only grades for the class were from 3 exams plus the final. He made his tests EXTREMELY difficult; I didnt even take the final because I failed all 3 exams.. The exam average each time was a D- which is useless for nursing majors. Next time I take BSC228 it wont be at MU.
Dr. Mallory is a great professor. His lectures are great, however he does ramble quite a bit. Once he gets off track, it's hard to get him back to where he needs to be. He does offer extra credit opportunities in the form of pop quizzes. My one issue with his class is that I just didn't like the way tests were written.
One of the worst professors i have had so far. Very incoherent and i never knew what was going on in his class. Even went to office hours for help and he was of no use. I wouldnt recommend him ever
