I disliked him while I had him, but in retrospect he wasn't half bad. Especially considering how bad it got with Che 131. The lectures aren't very helpful during exams. You just have to study off the textbook. It definitely isn't impossible to get an A though. Just don't rely on his lectures.

Really Stony Brook? What a joke. I made sure I waited until the summer to take CHE 132 because this guy was such a sad excuse of a professor. Being that I'm actually interested in chemistry it was quite a let down to be introduced to it by Hanson. He had no passion or desire to be teaching, read the rest of the comments if you don't believe me.

Spends the class teaching about teaching styles instead of teaching chemistry.

This class is easy, but Hanson is just a bad professor. He is the worst professor I've had so far. He wants students to do well, but he just isn't good at teaching. Overall, he's a nice guy but he's a bad teacher

Hanson is an awful professor. He's a poor lecturer and provides unclear and often useless powerpoints. Moreover, his tests are horrible! They don't test your ability to know the syllabus but what he feels you should know. On a side note, ALEKS is the most merciless HW spftware ever.

Professor Hanson is the worst teacher I have ever had in my Stony Brook Career. He is arrogant, and unhelpful when it comes to answering questions. His tests are extremely challenging and are only based off of a few concepts he covers quickly in lecture. In order to succeed you should study his clicker questions and review TEXTBOOK questions only.

I did well because I taught myself. He is a very smart man but a bad teacher. It is because they are all making the lessons so complicated using bs resources such as a text/online hw/notes/rec./clickers etc. Just keep is simple stupid- He would look so much better if he would stop complicating the lessons- I did well too so it is not a bias.

Its time to retire. Lectures are dry and quiet, you can barely hear him. His most frequent quote is I'm not going to go over this because its in the textbook. WHY AM I EVEN GOING TO CLASS If science and math aren't your strong suit he really isn't helping the cause. You sit and look at the slides and he blows through them without teaching.

He is only good if you go to him during his office hours. He is not good at teaching lectures. Attendance is mandatory for clicker questions.

Dr. Hanson is not easy. However, he is not as bad as some people say. People who write reviews on him for 129 and 132 generally have no idea what they are talking about and are just looking to make an excuse for their own incompetency. Put in the work and the grade is there for you. He actually has some pretty interesting things to say.

Topic material moves very quickly. It's almost impossible to actually pass the course without the curve. The tests are way harder than the "practice tests" he gives about before each test. There are four tests per semester. Very condescending towards the students in class.

He means well, and if you ask for help he will try to help you. He however is very confusing when it comes to explanations. He often messes up and tells us to "forget what he said" which often leads to a misunderstanding. Tests aren't too bad, but smart work is tedious if you dont teach yourself the work

Hanson might want students to do well but his students will never succeed. Time is spent criticizing the ways in which students tackle problems. He rarely teaches chemistry and instead teaches how to analyze properly. The important formulas and concepts take a back seat to him explaining how to analyze the question instead of solvingexplaining it.

This was the worst class I have ever taken. His voice is very soft so it is hard to hear him. There are a total of 15 Smartwork quizzes - try to score 100 on all of them (ask friends for help, go to tutoring). You are required to buy a clicker. I used the textbook maybe twice. Get ready to learn on your own.
