Mason is probably the best teacher to have for history. He gets straight to the point and is even gets funny with history at times. Always clear and easy to understand in class. Great lecturer.

Dr. Mason is a great teacher, he makes sure you understand things and will go the extra mile to help. He gives you extra credit by doing discussion readings. His tests are easy. I highly recommend taking his class. Excellant Teacher
Dr. Mason has an amazing knowledge, expertise and love for American History. He also has a great sense of humor which is highly appriciated whenever going to an early class. I highly recommend this professor.
Mr. Mason teaching skills are awesome. Follow and listen to the criteria in class and you will do just fine. His tests are 2 parts. 1) essay and 2) multiple choice and short answers. If you miss a class you could fall behind so show up early and be ready to take notes. If you have questions, better ask them! If necessary make an appointment
He likes history more than most people. Thats means you have to study ver very hard. It's crazy that we have to have an essay for EVERY single test. And that extra credit includes reading a 30 to 40 pages story that he picks out. NA dyou can sit in the discussion unless you read it. So to conclude this, NO I don't recommand this class.
This teacher is great. He really enjoys what he teaches. This makes it easier for those who are not into history that much.
Dr. Mason is an excellent teacher. His lectures are very clear and he gives you everything you need to know for the test. Take good notes and the time to study, and you will be fine. There are essays for every test, but you get to use your notes for them. This is the first history class I have not hated.
laid back..u must show up 4 class but hes so clear in his lectures..He even gives u the lecture outline..The essay for the test is ez, he gives u a week to do it..He gives u da short answer questions, and da rest which is 7 qs are mult choice..The EC is ez read da packet and he'll put u in groups and u answer 1 question and u can look at da packet.
Very Good Teacher. His test aren't easy, you must use quiet a bit of detail in the short answer. The good thing is you don't need a book for his class. Everything that is on the tests comes from his notes, so don't miss a class! Overall a good teacher, interesting lecturer, and a laid-back genuinely nice guy.
It is very helpful. You must read the material and take good notes. His test are based on his lectures. He does not give a study guide to let you know what to expect on the test. If you need that to help you. Do not take this class from this professor!
Dr. Mason is a great teacher. The class is not easy but if you are willing to come to class, take notes, and study you will leave knowing much more than you came with. He gives an outline at the beginning of each class and then lectures for the full hour. Come prepared to take notes and you will do fine.
Says you don't need a book, but there is NO WAY you can pass without it. He recommanded othere His. books but there weren't helping. You write essays every test. And I thought his test a tad bit hard.
This professor is the one of the best at GPC. He does not require you to have a book, gives very good detailed notes, and for all his exams I only read the notes twice and got an A in class. Highly recommended very good, and you will remember more information from his class then any other classes. Highly Recommended. Will take him again
as long as you take notes, and atleast glance at them before the test, you will pass this class. Dr.Mason also lets you write a take-home essay that you can use a books/notes on with every test. I would definately recommend Dr.Mason.
very good professor highly recomended. just take notes and study and you'll do fine
DR MASON IS THE BEST HISTORY TEACHER IVE EVER HAD, HIS ENTHUSIASM FOR THE SUBJECT REALLY MAKES YOU WANT TO LEARN. HE GIVES VIEW POINTS FROM ALL PERSPECTIVES AND TEACHES YOU HISTORY AS IF HE REALLY EXPERIENCED IT. HE GIVES 4 TEST WHICH ARE VERY EASY AND STRAIGHT FROM HIS NOTES. AWESOME TEACHER, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
He's ok. I think he talks a lot. But he does tell u what u need to know wen u're writing your notes. And u dont need a book, which could sometimes not b a good thing like if u miss class. But overrall he's ok. Not that bad.
Dr. Mason is great!! He is very helpful and he does not mind to spend whatever it takes to help you with your essays. He also grades quickly and he is fair. Just do not miss class because his lectures will NOT be found in any book. Show up, do not fall sleep and take VERY GOOD notes, and you will be fine.
no cumulative final & counts as normal test. VERY INTERESTIN teacher. gives e.c if u read his packet & come 2 discussion. alwaz willin 2 help students. missed a test and got 2 make it up. i recomened. Made sure we understood his notes. i missed 3/4 lectures and still got a B, but i studies hard. dont worry bout fallin sleep, u wont. he's the best
Definitely an interesting professor to listen to. His tests can be brutal if you don't study for the short discussion questions. Worth noting: There's a paper assignment for every test, and he can be quite picky when grading short answer or essay.
Great teacher...explains everything very well and tells you the importances of events AND that is what will be on your test. If you take notes and study them you can get an EASY A...I got a B with less studying
Wonderful teacher, hes interesting and returns e-mails promptly. He will lecture and test you on whats important without making you search through all the JUNCK in your textbook (which can take FOREVER)I really liked him, hes the best hist. prof. I've had.
Excellent. Take notes and you're fine - he will specifically list the importance of each event in history and subsequently test over exactly that. Easy A, very entertaining, great prof.
great tearcher, covers all material clearly and efficiently, yet you still have put your effort into the material he gives in order to cover his tests. tests are easy when you put effort to it, and the way he grades them are not lenient.
This teacher lifted the aversion I once felt towards history. Far from a pedant, Dr. Mason cares that you learn concepts and not so much annoying dates.I commend him!
He tries to cover too much material in a short time. Each class period i have to write 3-4 pages of notes!! that is ridiculous! Also the test is tuff too! you have to answer not too much or he questions you why? and not too little. either or you get penalized... i swear i'm getting carpel tunnel from his class!!
Good teacher, very clear in his concepts. He really wants you to learn. However, his test are hard, usually ask the non important things on your notes. I recommend this teacher, will learn a lot just study hard.
Dr. Mason tells you exactly what he wants you to know for the test. Just take notes and study. No problem.
He is not only a good professor but also a very great person. He CARES about his student. Take him & trust me you will not be dissapointed. But do take good notes and study.
He is a good professor, but be sure to take notes in his class and study.
I really enjoyed his class, but he does grade the tests hard! He really knows what he's doing and the class is not boring. Very nice guy. =)
very nice and a great teacher. Test are easy if you study, but he does grade hard. willing to help you whenever it is needed. I would recommend for anyone. As long as you study and take good notes you should be fine!
I took him for 1111. I didn't need the book, just take very accurate notes. He does grade the tests' hard, just use flash cards to study. Made an A in his class. Very nice person.
i wnt lie to you. most of the people that write bad comments about Dr. Mason probably failed the class. He is a great teacher. onfact, great is an understatement. He tells u how he wants u to answer his test. When he asks u to explain,u must explain.u also dnt need to buy the book. he believes the book is waste of money.take his notes and u will pass
Dr. Mason is a really good teacher. I was actually interested in history. He made class interesting with his power points and jokes. He is so full of information n really enjoys teaching. Don't have to buy the book, just takes notes in class. Please study for the test bc you have to know what the events were and the significances! N theres a paper!
The best teacher I have had here. He is so helpful and interesting. Really understands if you can't make it to a test and lets you make up as long as you tell him before the test. Always emails you back. Don't but the text. awesome! dry sense of humor.
Dr. Mason, is the best.Trust me.He takes time to explain over and over and at the end of the day, he gives a list of terms which u'll need to study bcos they would be on the test.To him, the txt bok, is a BS, waste of time, and money.Take his notes& u'll pass. Also, u would write a paper.Basically, its a summary of a topic he spoke about in class.
Very interesting teacher. He makes history actually ok to sit through. His tests are easy if you take good notes. Plus lots of extra credit opportunities
Mason is a good teacher with a nerdy sense of humor. He knows his history and makes it interesting. He will take the tests straight from the power points so take good notes. The notes also help with the final paper. Pick a topic and skim through your notes and there is your paper. He is somewhat picky while grading tests so study what he says to!!!
over all good teacher. He grades very hard on test and gives only notes. Just stiudy and youll do fine. Take good notes bc you dont use the book at all... over all great teacher great person... only down side... grades hard!! You do have a final paper and a good amount of extra credit oppurtunties... would recommend if you can do good notes.
Dr. Mason is awesome!! If I liked history I would be doing a lot better. For me I have to force myself to do well in this class bc of the subject but as for Dr. Mason, he is great!!!
He is a very nice professor, great teachings. On the other hand, he grades hard on the tests. You also have to write a lot on the tests and in class when he teaches be prepared to write...if you missed that, u missed a good grade on the test.
Knows his stuff. Throws in nerdy jokes when he can. Learned alot from him. Great at having study sessions for test. Do few homework assignments he asks for and you'll get some good extra credit on tests. Dont even need the book with his notes and study exactly what he says for tests cuz he's wordy on things.
Dr. Mason is a great teacher. It's not just a boring lecture. His teaching style is very appealing so you are less likey to fall asleep. I only used my textbook for our final, which is an essay that he gives you with the syllabus. You have the whole semester to it. Test are strictly from the study guide. He'll tell you what NOT on tests. Easy A-B
Very good professor. He is very helpful to everyone. Just see him after class. He likes to teach and teaches really well. I learned a lot in his class. Just come to class and take good notes, and come to the study sessions, and do a good job on the final paper. You will pass his class!
I would highly recommend Prof. Mason!! Even though I dropped his class when I should not have I did b/c of chemistry!!! But yea i am taking him again for the summer!!!
He is a great teacher. Before taking his class I hated history. He made history enjoyable. His lecture outlines and study guides are extremely helpful. He is willing to go the extra mile to help you as long as you ask for help. I highly recommend Dr. Mason.
Awesome teacher, long lectures, but makes them pretty interesting. He really knows his history.U actually will remember what he talks about in class.DONT buy the book,u'll never use it.No HW. Just take really good notes and study them.Easy tests but grades them EXTREMELY hard, be very detailed in ur answers and write a lot!Worth taking his classes
this teacher knows his history...keeps it very interesting...long lectures but worth it cause you learn a lot. there is only tests and you cant bomb those because you will fail the class...
Intersting and well prepared! This prof is knowledgeable and enjoys teaching. You will learn alot and enjoy it too.
Wonderful teacher! Lectures are long but he makes them VERY interesting. Don't buy the book, he goes straight by the notes.
All he does is lectures pretty much. You don't really need the book if you take good notes. He was great! And easy to get along with and make jokes with during class. He tells a lot of funny stuff that goes with the lectures.
Dr. Mason is AWESOME. He is funny, witty, easy to talk to and will help you all he can. I highly recommend his classes. He mostly lectures so do NOT buy the book; we never used it once. Write good notes and review them for tests and you will do fine. Easy stuff! & very interesting class discussions! I wish he taught more classes.
Take him, no other history teacher. I did not even use the book once. Is all based on his lectures. Makes history interesting. Hated history before, now I like it.
Highly recommend Dr. Mason, You have to take notes, he lectures all class. He makes history interesting, he explains it in a way that you understand it. Great teacher!!!
Excellent teacher. Made the class entertaining. Good sense of humor and wit. Be prepared for detailed notes, as he never used the book. He is nitpicky on essays, though. Otherwise, excellent teacher.
Dr. Mason is an excellent teacher. He is helpful, and always wants to make sure his students understand what he says (He frequently asks "Sound reasonable, sound good?"). I loved his 2112 class and I am not at all into history. I am taking him again for 2111. Out of my teachers this semester, he is probably my favorite.
Awesome teacher. One of the best professors I have ever hard. Grading can be hard - only answer what he ask and you must KNOW why things happen. His lectures are very interesting and the time flies. Record his class so you can go back and listen to lectures when you write the essay's. Everything is in his lectures so you must be in class.
WONDERFUL TEACHER. He's the best college professor I've ever had. He's not an easy A but extremely fair. Everything comes from his lectures so if you are in class and take notes you won't have a problem.
Loved him! If you need to take history, take no one else! Recording his lectures helped me earn a solid A in the class.
He is an interesting lecturer
This class was very enjoyable; he tried his best to get the class excited about the material. Do the readings and use the study guide he provides and you should do well in this class.
Great professor!! Really wants to help you out!!
This man is AMAZING.I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM. Mason is by far the best hist prof I've EVER had, but he will not just "give" you an A; you are required to earn it. You NEED to study & take notes (I've never had to do for hist). Don't buy book, didn't even crack it once (fyi: he says this too). He is NOT hard, but he needs to justify giving you an A!
This professor is the best history teacher that I have ever had. He makes History enjoyable and not so overwhelming like other professors. He is willing to help out and is there for you when you need him. Take him and you would regret it, his mission is to pass you not fail you.
Dr. Mason was an excellent teacher! He lectures the whole time and is NOT boring! Very helpful with ALL questions. Gets the whole class involved and always tells you what he will test on! I will take him again for 2112!
BEST history prof. ever! Have to earn your A though, but he gives you the answers in his notes literally. He tells you what to write down. Not once did i open up the book. He shows you where to get the history book for .25 cents. TAKE HIM FOR 2111 AND 2112
Dr. Mason is an awesome teacher. The class is HARD though. Do not take his tests lightly! However this is a great history class and lectures are very interesting.
Mason is an awesome teacher. He is very engaging and quite the charm. He is always willing to help and makes sure you understand the topic. He is FUNNY! I do not like anything History, but this class was super fun. As long as you pay attention in class, take good notes, and open your mouth, he will give you the benefit. Also, do not get the book.
Dr Mason is the BEST U.S. History teacher you can ever have. He actually makes the projects for the class fun to research and do. I loved him as a teacher and outside of class he's a badass guy.
Had him for US History 2 in the Summer. I failed the first exam but only because I neglected the fact that he wanted us to explain why it was the answer. I came out with a B which was awesome. Study hard and don't let his first grade get you down. He is an EXCELLENT teacher.
He is by far the best teacher I have had at this cool. He connects the dots with history like I have never seen before. He makes sure you understands things and is SO interesting. I have never looked forward to going to class so much. I highly recommend him. He makes you work for an A, but it isn't hard as long as you go to class. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
He is a decent teacher, he teaches all through PowerPoint lectures & you have very few opportunities to change your grade. Only takes grades on about 8 assignments total including tests. Classes are boring but he tries his best to keep you focused & always ends class early.
Makes the subject interesting; he is also kind and funny. However,he grades VERY harshly and is highly expectant of the content he is grading. Make sure you know exactly what he's looking for; because just when you feel you have everything you probably don't. I would take him over the other professors but be prepared to put in a LOT of work...
Dr. Mason is without a doubt one of the best teachers that I have ever had! I had him for a 2 1/2 hour class and he made his lectures interesting. His grading is fair. Make sure you explain your answers and you will get good grades. I would definitely reccomend Dr. Mason!
Dr. Mason is a really great professor. He makes class interesting and is really helpful with any questions. However, he is a tough grader. Make sure you explain EVERYTHING on tests and papers if you take this class. Other than the grading, I liked the class.
Grest teacher, made History interesting. He didn't have test, only quizzes which made it a lot easier to study. He usually ended the class early which is a plus. He is a great choice! Not an easy A, but in reach, just study a little.
Dr. Mason makes History really interesting. This class does require work to get an A.
Dr. Mason is one of the best teacher for history. He makes everything so clear and also have the class think why some things happens. No tests. Only weekly quizzes, readings, a short essays. You have one final paper due at the end of the year but he prepares you for it.
Best teacher ever, TAKE HIM!!!
Dr. Mason is a seriously nice guy who is corny, but funny as well. The workload was minimal compared to my other classes but bear in mind that he is a deceptively hard grader. Besides that, he excels at presenting information and making it so that you can understand it easily.
Dr. Mason was a cool professor, and overall, this class was somewhat easy -- you have to work for it though. Show up, take notes, do the quizzes, and the essays. He loves to put trick questions on the quizzes, so don't second guess yourself, and go with your gut. The essays he goes over in detail, and always answer the question, "WHY?" more DETAIL!
Dr. Mason may be the best professor Ive ever had. I walked into this class as a Business Major just to get the course credit that I needed, and walked out of this class changing my major to History. Lots of note taking--VERY IMPORTANT to take notes_ everything for your papers, assignments, and quizzes will come from these notes- TAKE GOOD ONES!
interesting lectures, quiz and essays are based on lectures. allows u to use audio recorder which is very help since all quizzes are based on the lectures. too many essays for a history class 4 regular essays 4 to 6 pages and 1 final essay 8 to 12 pages. he is a fair grader he wants you to be specific what you writing about.
Prof. Mason makes the lecture very interesting and very easy to follow history. I'm writing his final paper now and I feel totally drained, It takes over my mind even when I'm not actually writing the paper! the other 3 papers were tough as well, History geeks should love him but 4 papers are too much for me. I only paid $4 for my book online
Dr. Mason is my favorite teacher at Georgia Gwinnett College. He has very interesting and exciting lectures. I did not like history before taking his class but i have learned to love and appreciate history through his wonderful teaching. He does not do multiple choice tests, he only does essays. He gives very clear directions. Would take him again!
He is the most awesome Professor, always helpful. I HATE History, but he made is fun and interesting. 3 essays, and weekly quizzes that come directly from his lectures, so it is best to be in class. No mid-term and no final. Always, always willing to help you and give feedback and will work with you. He is so good, I took him again for Hist II.
awesome teacher, yes you have to attend -1% every class you miss. yes he only has 4 papers for all grades in the class but he cares about you learning! he goes slow so you can learn the info. take notes so you'll pass. essays are super easy. i took once a week class and he NEVER took the whole time!! usually get out an hour early in a 2 12 class
This is a rarity: A Professor I have actually come to respect. I cannot remember the last liberal arts class where there was no hidden social agenda attached. I do not know is political leanings. He will work your rear off, and grades the papers hard (no tests), but he is passionate about his subject, and you will learn.
Dr. Mason has been one of the best professors that I've had at GGC. He loves history and gets you to love it too. He doesn't have any tests- just papers, which I love. He always lets us out an hour early for our 2 and 12 hour class. You'll definitely get a good grade if you explain well in all of your papers!
I usually struggle with history but I love this class! I would highly recommend this professor with any course. It's impossible to not pay attention in this class. He gives great lectures, I never had to use my book, he gave papers no tests. On the first day when he says he assigns papers it sounds intimidating but they are easy if you go to class
He is a hard grader. Do not take this class if you do not like to write papers.
He's really good about letting you sit in on other class times if you miss a day. And if you are gonna miss a class MAKE SURE YOU GET NOTES FROM SOMEONE WHO IS A GOOD NOTE TAKER. Essays are specific, and as long as you take basic notes you'll be able to write something good. Open note online quizes. Nice, sometimes funny guys.
Dr. Mason is one of the best professors I've had at GGC. He really know his history and actually makes it interesting. He's somewhat of a tough grader, but he's very clear about what he expects from his students. I definitely recommend him for U.S. history!
Someone that gave Dr Mason a bad rating didn't study :( This professor is wonderful. I took this course from him because I had him before and learned so much. He is funny, helpful, and loves what he does. If you listen, take great notes you will make great grades. He makes History come alive. He will answer any questions to help you succeed.
He's still one of my favorite professors because he makes the subject very interesting
I never really liked history but this class is mandatory so I'm taking it for a credit but I find it very stressful and vigorous. We only meet once a week so there is a lot more to do on your own. I don't really feel comfortable asking questions because I see others who are really interested and knowledgeable and I don't want to be starred at.
I finally found someone who makes History class interesting. he is one of the best teachers i have ever had in my life and im BACK in school again and over 40... this guy is GREAT. all test and quizes are done at home. some quizes had short times set for them to be completed, we went in and told him we couldnt comleted, he corrected it on the spot!
Dr. Mason is a very well versed and informed historian. He is very focused on the critical thinking involved in his courses. He doesn't want you to reiterate the facts in sequence, instead build an argument for how and why things transpired. His essay grading really challenged my skills, but I improved and it bettered me for the long term.
Dr. Mason loves teaching. He made lectures interesting and informative. He is a tough grader you will have to write a total of 5 essays along with weekly quizzes. Show up to class pay attention and take good notes.
Dr. Mason's style of teaching is exactly my style of learning. He tells a story from his power point. TAKE GOOD NOTES. If you miss a class, he will let you sit in on one of his others. Take advantage of that. Weekly quizzes based on lectures, 3 essay tests, 1 research project, and 1 long final essay. Also outside reading that will also be quizzed
I like this professor a lot BUT why on earth would you assign a 20 page reading . That's overload I can't even keep up with 10 much less 18 pages.
I'm not a fan of him. He's a nice guy, but he grades so difficult. I've never had difficulty with passing papers, and with him he grades SOOO HARD. I haven't done well on his papers. He gives weekly online quizzes, 3 exam essays and 1 final exam essay. I have struggled all semester because of the papers which is a huge portion of the class.
He is very nice but very picky and difficult to please . Not only do you have to worry about writing it his way you have to make sure you've taken the notes he has talked about which is hard to miss because he talks alot. And the 16 page essay was ridiculously long and boring I found it extremely difficult to focus on
I do like this professor he seems very likable BUT I question whether he cares for us with the amount of reading he assigns :(
Dr. Mason is a nice as a person, but his class is too hard for a core class. Students that do well on papers in other classes still get low grades on his essays. He does not let you use sources outside of him, but says you are not specific enough even if you use ALL the info he gave you. He grades way too harshly. I do not recommend.
I DO recommend taking Masons class. Easiest core class Ive ever taken. I have had him twice already. As long as you write down what he says that's important you will do great.
This is the first history teacher that I have had that does American history from all sides. He discusses feminism often and acknowledges that his struggles as a white man are different from minorities. Very mindful and gives really good lectures, as long as you pay attention.
Print All Power points, Write everything he says that's not on them. Don't write during "storytime". Essay tests come directly from lecture material; it is important to be at each class. Do extra credit! Find a partner in class to review notes with; if one misses something most times the other will have it. I purchased the book on Amazon (optional)
Mason is a funny and respectable professor. His exams are based of of his own voice. The slides provide little information so you have to take notes. He is very SPECIFIC in what he wants as an answer to his exams. Hard grader. Very difficult to get an A on his exams if you don't write everything down. Write down his "story times" to ensure the best
Literally tried my hardest on the exams and failed all of them i payed so much attention to him because his lectures were so interesting and i participated everyday... and got a C super upset rn because he is so picky to grade. sucks man i deserve a much higher grade
This class mostly lectures, only uses power points for reference. Go to class, his tests will be based on his lectures, NOT THE POWERPOINTS. The lectures are very i interesting and he gives you cues when to stop/start taking notes. For example, "story time," or "This is significant because..."
I would recommend NOT to take his class. You will feel like you did great on a paper then fail. He is a tough grader.
Best history professor ever gives amazing lectures keeps you interested... knows when to stop and take a break so we all get breathers he tells you the whys and whats important and what to write down DEFINITELY WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN!!! Doesnt make you remember dates and he actually cares about your knowledge
I took this class because I needed history credit for my degree. I have never had a good experience in history until now! His lecture allowed for understanding of the content. Tests were a lot of writing but you just retold the story in which he already told you. Take detailed notes, show up and participate you learn while receiving a good grade.
Professor Mason is an amazing man! He truly does care about what you have to say and how you feel about the topics we are discussing in the class. He does a little tough though, but its worth it! He has a different way of teaching, his lectures will keep you very engaged and ready to learn. Come to class, take notes, pay attention, and pass!
Prof. Mason gave very good lectures. They were interesting and easy to understand. You have to take really good notes in his class for the tests that he gives and even then you probably wont get a good grade. He gave 6 tests in one semester which I thought was a lot. He also gives a 7-8 page paper at the end which is hard to get a good grade on.
He is a great professor. His lectures are entertaining and I learned so much in his class. His tests are essay based so you must to be present for the class and make sure you take notes. He allows you to record his lectures so I would recommend doing that as well. If you are present, take notes, and ask him questions, you will pass.
I took Professor Mason's class online due to the circumstances, and the course was very organized and you could see what you needed to complete from the first day. You could work at your own pace, and deadlines were given in advance. He's very willing to help and give feedback, and if I had more history classes to take, I would take him again!
Dr. Mason's class was very easy going. He only required one access code for a program and you downloaded a free textbook pdf. He gives short but informational lectures and has you answer related to the lectures for homework. He gave 3 exams which were relatively easy and the hardest thing I had to do was write my final paper.
I enjoyed his in-person lectures. I just don't understand why the exams were so hard for me. It's not that I didn't know the material but more of trick answer options that got me. There were 3 exams & the rest of the work were discussions.. idk why I got the same 80 on all of them.. it didn't help that I wasn't doing too well on the tests.
Textbook is online. Lectures: some long and some short but they are very helpful and what you need to make A and Bs. Very nice and answers emails accordingly. Discussions can be a lot but he gives great feedback. Very tough grader on final essay exam. Overall easy and not hard. I would take this professor again. He was normal average, very good.
Your grade is based on discussions, tests, and a final paper. He is a very picky grader. The tests have writing portions. Overall, however, the class was pretty simple and not stressful.
Professor Mason was amazing. I did his hybrid course for Survey of U.S. History one and two, two was definitely more work, but still manageable. He has really good lectures, and he's really nice. I really enjoyed his class, and I love how genuine and sweet he is. Exams are pretty easy. Do in-person if you can, it'll be more enjoyable. Loved.
The professor himself is fine, he replies to emails quickly and allows late work if you have a reason. But there are "discussions" almost every week, 9 in total, that are just essays. So be prepared to write and then be graded harshly. There are three test, that are multiple choice and short answer. This was of asynchronous course.
The guy is nice to an extent, but the class is terrible. Way more work is needed than should be. There are 9 discussions that are just essays and three hard test with Mc and short answer. There is a final essay worth 26% of the class. He is the hardest grader and expects the most.
Took this asynchronous. Very writing and note-taking heavy. Lecture videos are posted but are taken down once the test is on air. Gives 3-5 days to complete test. MCQ+Short answer tests are challenging. All assignments are discussion posts (must be 3-5 paragraphs) and need contextualization. Nice and reasonable guy, though. Prompt Email responses.
Dr. Mason is a terrible grader. Exams focus primarily on his recorded lectures despite requiring the textbook to take online textbook assessments. No matter how versed you are in a subject, if you leave even the slightest details out that are ONLY in his lectures, then RIP. He deletes recorded lectures as well. Final Essay is a nightmare.
Dr. Mason's class was the best class I have ever taken. There some lite reading maybe 30-45 min to prepare you for class, then a lecture. His goal isn't for you to memorize dates and names, rather he wants you to analyze information and be able to put that into your own words. Take good notes and you'll have no problem.
He is an awesome historian, and has amazingly interesting lectures. If in person, make sure you make a friend, for notes. Due to the amazingly interesting lectures, part of the test are short essay form his lectures. And, when it comes to the discussions in person it is better vs online. Trust me!
lecture-heavy. attendance is not mandatory. you should go in person because his lectures go into more detail than just the ppt. quizzes have more room to fail bc of the format of the Qs. He is a tough grader on the essays but does give feedback on the paper. don't really recommend taking his class if you can't handle long lectures and note-taking.
Dr. Mason was very hard on grading. Most assignments were due about every 2 weeks, with 4 test through out the semester. Seemed pretty nice since it was online, but overall grades really hard.
Although attendance is optional, you cannot pass the class without attending. His PowerPoints are just vague descriptions of things he goes over in class. My biggest issue with the course was that the exam questions would always be over something we only spent a small portion of class time on and it seemed like he expected specific answers.
very tough grader.
Professor Mason's history class had tough grading for a filler course. He expected core-level commitment, required a $70 textbook for non-graded practice assignments taking 2 hours each. Grading seemed like he gave grades based on how he would have written. ALL TESTS ARE WRITTEN. This man is honestly ridiculous.
All of his tests are written. Expect to read two chapters, do a 60 question textbook quiz, and take a quiz for each unit. Units due weekly. Multiple written assignments, few cover niche topics not mentioned heavily in the book. He grades a bit harshly, and its hard to understand what exactly he wants, although he gives a clear grading rubric.
This guy expects you to put in core class devotion for a pre requisite. He will not hi
Don't take his class unless you want to commit about 10 hours weekly to his work. If you actually do the work to the best of your ability and you leave a single tiny detail out your grade will already be dropped 10 points just like that. He grades the work so hard for no reason and puts little to no effort into everything associated to his class GL
Do not take this professor. He will ruin up your gpa. All tests/assignments are written essays aside from quizzes. He grades the way he feels and will fail you on all your tests regardless of the effort you put in. It is hard to understand what he expects writing wise. He grades extremely harshly.
Assigns too many papers and expects you to include every single detail or else he takes lots of points off. His lecture videos are long and boring because he talks very slow. He is a horrible grader.
Dr. Mason uses Connect Text which is crap: 2-hour ungraded tests, but that score will be your auto actual quiz grade. His lectures= great information - record them bc he deletes them when tests are assigned, and if you use his words from the recorded lectures, you will do well on tests. Responds to email. Clear requirements. Writing heavy.
Absolutely do not take this class online. He is the toughest grader I've ever had- I've never struggled as much as I did in this class just to keep a passing grade. Im pre-nursing and this class jumped to my top priority over my heavy science courses. Too time consuming and an overall headache. Can't speak for in-person, but do not take online!!!
Do NOT take this class if you don't like writing. Very lecture-heavy and an extremely tough grader. He never really specifies what he looks for in writing. He pretty much grades your exams on how he, as a professor, would write them and doesn't take account of a student's perspective. All exams are written with a minimum of a long paragraph.
Professor Mason is such a fun professor; explains everything in depth in a very enjoyable way. You almost never stay for the full class period. It's not mandatory to go to class, but you're honestly not going to retain any info if you don't as there's little substance on the actual slides-- all the knowledge is coming straight from him.
Wants you to read the entire book, but then asks you 3 questions for the exam. Study-guide only includes the possible topics, not questions just title. Short answers has to be verbatim to what he thinks, even if your answer is correct.
Mason is the WORST!! Insists you give detailed answers to questions on exams or you lose points. No extra credit, demands you put away phones, lectures seem to go on forever. There are WAY easier professors out there so save your GPA and look elsewhere
He was a pretty good professor. He was engaging in lectures and gave clarity when needed. He grades particularly, but his class is an easy and simple one when you know what he's looking for. His assignments were pretty simple, and overall I would recommend him.
