Prof. McArdle is a new professor this year. Homework was worth 50% of the grade and he grades hard so make sure you actually put effort into it. Exams are difficult, not really something you can study for. The best way I can describe this class is that it's basically a bunch of brain teaser problems. Either you get it or you don't
If you have any questions about anything, from the lecture to homework problems to quiz/exams he will answer them for you and help make sure you understand it. Great teacher, I loved this class.
Best math professor you will ever have. Great person - great professor
He is so nice. He made the 8AM class so wonderful. Go to his lecture and fill the note outline(he made it himself), you will be fine. And if you have question just email him. He is very helpful. Dr. McArdle is young and creative. One of the best professor in UCONN,though this is his beginning of his career.
Easily the best math teacher I have ever had. Really cares about his students; email him if you have any questions and he will respond in a timely manner. He will even upload videos of how to solve a specific problem if you are confused. His lecture notes are great, you can print them out before class and fill them in as you go. Made math enjoyable
Very good professor, fairly easy class. You can work with classmates on homework, which is most of your grade. Tests are easy and straightforward. A bigger group project at the end of the semester, but there's a lot of leeway with what you can do your project on. A good and easy Q course, very understanding professor.
McCardle is easily the best math teacher I've had at UConn thus far, if not the best teacher in general. If you can take his lecture, take it. He not only understands the material of the course, but can clearly articulate it, which I've found to be somewhat of a rare commodity these days.
The best professor I've ever had. This man could do no wrong. Kept us updated on the building of his home. I loved him and his class and it made me happy to wake up every morning at 8AM
David is pretty much everything you would want in a math teacher and more. He really cares about his students and explains the content in a way that is just so easy to understand. While Calc II is a hard subject, he makes it as simple as possible and if you have to take this class absolutely take him.
I thought Calc II would be hard but Dave made everything so easy to understand. And he was funny too, which made his already interesting lectures even better.
David is an amazing professor. Here really cares about his students. Although the course material is difficult David makes it so that it is easier to understand and is happy to answer questions. He is great in office hours and will do anything he can to help you pass. If you have the choice have him as a professor he's awesome!!
Dave is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is a very good lecturer and keeps the course interesting. He is very approachable and easy to ask questions to, and always gives good answers. If you can ever take a course with McArdle, do it.
McArdle is by far the best professor I have ever had! He is caring, thoughtful and can actually teach! He is such a nice person and truly wants his students to succeed. If you just do what he suggests for the test, you can do well in the course!
Dave is the absolute best! The notes are amazing and extremely comprehensive. Everything is explained step by step, and he does a great job making Calculus easy. Also, he is the most wholesome man alive.
McArdle is the best professor I have ever had. He cares about his students succeeding and does everything in his power to make that happen. His notes are absolutely GORGEOUS and easy to follow, in lecture and during your own study time. He explains math in a way that makes sense. I wish he taught all subjects. He is a blessing to this earth!
Best professor I've ever had hands down. Absolutely love him, a true good heart and an amazing teacher. Makes math easy. So understandable. So kind, so caring. Math is one of my least favorites, and McArdle made it my favorite class I've ever taken at UConn. So passionate. 100% recommend, possibly best professor at UConn period.
One of the best professors in the math department, if not the best. You can tell he cares how well the class is doing, makes it very clear with repeated offers for office hours. He does an excellent job in presenting the material in a way that's fast enough to get through the course material but slow enough not to lose everyone in the room.
Dave was is my favorite professor Ive had thus far. He makes the classes personal by sharing anecdotes about his life, including his log cabin building process. He also takes incredible notes that you can fill in along with him during class. The class is difficult but he tries his best to make sure his students succeed.
Dave is hands down the best math professor I have ever had. He's incredibly passionate about the subject and about teaching it- he literally told us he wanted to teach high school but then he "fell in love with math". He really goes above and beyond to teach his students, and is super caring and dedicated to helping them be successful.
Take Calc II with Dave!! Amazing teacher, even better person. Many of my friends struggled with other professors, but Dave truly cares about his student's success. He explains the material so well and made Calc II far easier than everyone says. Practice exams are great. His guided notes are perfect. Most wholesome man, best teacher I've ever had.
Easily the best professor I've had so far. He does an amazing job of explaining tough material. Lecture was honestly a pleasure to go to, and he really seemed to enjoy teaching. Practice exams help a ton.
If you have the chance to take Dave, please do. Hes an amazing lecturer & provides beautiful notes & graphic organizers. The class is hard just by nature of the content being hardit is calc 2. Dave is super accessible & cares so much about students. He makes the content make sense. Clicker questions so go to class. Same course structure as calc 1
Undoubtably my favorite professor. I cannot stress how good he is, and if you have the opportunity to take his Calc 2 class, do it. He always replies to emails, is always available, and is an incredibly nice person in general. He makes difficult content easy to understand, and is just an awesome guy in general.
DAVE IS A GIFT FROM THE MATH GODS. I seriously cannot stress enough how awesome this guy is. Lecture is at 8am and for the love of God I can't wake up for that but his notes are so beautiful I honestly didn't need to (tho I did feel bad skipping just bc of how wholesome he is). Made a notoriously bad class bearable. BIG recommend.
Great professor. He writes amazing notes and uploaded them online after class. Easiest calc class with him.
A great professor with an awesome way to teach his class. He teaches with lots of interest and loves what he does! Would highly recommend for Calc 2
One of the best professors at UConn! The 8 am lecture can be torturous, but Dave's teaching and notes really helped. Discussion is great for those who work best in small groups and is when you'll have your assessments. WebAssign (homework) is annoying, but you get multiple attempts, videos, and other examples. Didn't even open the textbook.
Prof. McArdle made Calculus 2 very easy and straightforward. He has a very kind demeanor and his lecture notes are very pretty.
Mcardle prefers 8am classes. He is very accessible outside of class. His exams are drastically harder than the homework and the quizzes.
The absolute best prof I've ever had. He provides note guides that are colorful and engaging and is really good at explaining the concepts in a way that is easy to understand. There is a discussion taught by a TA where you have weekly quizzes and homework packets to turn in every week. There is also online homework every week but exams are MC.
Lots of people say Calc 2 is the hardest calc. In my opinion it was the easiest because Dave was so much better than my professors in the other calcs. No question that the class is difficult but I think that Dave makes it as easy as it can be. He posts his full lecture notes so attendance isnt mandatory but i would suggest going to do well.
Dave is one of the best Calc professors out there! His lecture notes are colorful and easy to follow along. As a student taking the online version of MATH 1132Q in COVID season it's definitely rough but Dave is always there to help you out and make you succeed. We played two Kahoots during the problem session and chatted about life! Recommended!!!
Great teacher. It was an online class and Dave was in charge of the lectures. They were great and easy to follow. He would post an outline of the notes, as well as a completed copy of his notes, both of which were very helpful. His notes were colorful and detailed. The quizzes, exams and home works were all fair, not hard, and didn't take too long.
I took MATH1132Q with Professor McArdle (Dave) and it could not have gone any better! Dave does a wonderful job with his video lectures and shows that he genuinely cares about us and has a passion for teaching. Definitely watch all of his lecture videos or else you probably won't do too well. Also attend his problem sessions, they're very helpful!
Dave is such a great professor because he is really good at explaining the topics in his lectures and gives lots of examples and he is also super nice. Exams can be tough but if you do the review problems and spend time studying, you should be fine because the questions are fair.
Dave is easily one of the best professors I've had. The content was kind of hard, but with all the practice work, I found I was able to do pretty well on the exams. His office hours and problem sessions were really helpful. His lectures were absolutely AMAZING and he has the best outlines for notes. Overall, I highly recommend Dave and this class.
Dave was the best math teacher Ive ever had. Exams are not too bad, but you actually need to study and thoroughly understand the topics/concepts to do well. He is really caring and will put his students first. He is not cocky like most other math profs. I actually understood calc 2, which is known to be the worst. Take him 100%
Dave is such an amazing professor and made what was a pretty difficult class for me much easier. His lectures were organized and easy to follow, he explained things really well, and he is also really nice and definitely cares about his students. If you have to take this class, definitely take it with him.
Good professor, yes, but the hw assignments were the complete opposite to his lectures. The lectures were easy to follow, but once I was left on my own with COMPLETELY DIFFERENT types of hw questions, it was so difficult. I literally relied on my classmates questions and answers to complete it. I just needed the credit and wow, I'm glad it's over.
Dave was the first math professor I had at UConn and he made Calc II an absolute breeze. His lectures are very concise and his notes/examples are legible and he is great at explaining concepts. Homework and quizzes/exams were fair and there were no surprise questions. Everything on an exam will be something you've seen before. Overall great guy.
Dave is the best professor I have ever had. You'll LOVE his handwriting. He makes the material easy and genuinely cares about his students. Only complaint is that the practice questions are often different than the lectures questions but there are so many resources that can help you no matter what. IMO there's no better option than Dave for Calc II
Prof. McArdle's lectures are literally amazing. He handwrites his own notes, and then posts the shell and the completed notes and example problems. The lectures are a bit lengthy, but they are clear and he does lots of examples. Quizzes and exams are fairly easy, if you have been following in class and understand all the topics well.
He is by far the best teacher I ever had. His lecture videos are very colorful and makes math seem so easy. He pretty much made it impossible to make the class hard, by offering Kahoots, problem sessions, and Thursday 3s which all made the exams easier, especially for series.
Dave is honestly the best math-related professor I've had ever. His lectures are well thought out and easy to follow, he is very approachable, and so long as you put in some effort learning the content, Dave will make sure you succeed in the class. There is always extra credit for the exams, and the final replaces your lowest midterm grade.
Great teacher and makes the material easy to understand.
Prof McArdle makes Calc II easy and his notes are super helpful. His exams are fair, no curve balls and every question is one that you've seen before. He gives EC for every exam and if you do poor on one of the exams, your final will replace it. He is also very approachable and eager to help! One of the best prof at this UConn!
I took Calc II with Professor McArdle and even though it was online due to COVID, he made the concepts and procedures of calculus extremely clear. The most notable thing was Professor McArdle's lectures, which were pre-recorded this semester -- these, and the guided notes, made learning simple, and genuinely enjoyable. Best prof I've had so far.
McArdle was a great professor! He gave clear instructions and worked hard to give his students the best grade as possible. His exams were fairly made, and quizzes were a piece of a cake! For the final, if you get higher than your previous exams then it will replace your lowest score. He is super sweet and gave great review sessions!
Professor Dave is extremely nice. However I didnt like the way he teaches because sometimes he will miss steps and expect you to figure it out. Yet if youre not good at calculus it makes it a lot difficult. His exams are a bit challenging just like every other calculus class but I would still look into other Professors before taking his course.
Dave was a great professor considering that the class was entirely online. He was incredibly helpful during office hours and really wanted us to do well. 2 tests and the final were 65% of the overall grade though which made doing well very difficult. There were some extra credit options to boost test grades though. Hard class but great prof.
I loved his class and lectures. He's a great professor and really explains everything so clearly. His notes are amazing and so helpful to look back at. I honestly think he is one of the best professors I have ever had. I think the tests are fair as there were very few problems that we did not see from the lectures. I highly recommend his class!
Great teacher, great lectures, great note outlines. If you stay on pace with the schedule he provides you will be completely fine. McArdle is very understanding and helps you instantly with any question you have. He also provides you with opportunities to improve your grade and extra credit. Would definitely have him as a professor again.
Didn't like his teaching. He makes everything so complicate. Yes a nice guy but not the best teacher.
Professor McArdle is a great teacher. His lectures are awesome and he gives handwritten notes outline. It's a hard class, but he explains everything very clearly and helps out wherever we get confusing. I Highly recommend his class if you have the option.
I hate men but I love Dave. He color-codes his notes and is great at explaining things. He is also always available for extra help. His work is manageable and tests and quizzes are reasonable. If you do the work it's a breeze.
I absolutely love Dave. I took calc 2 online with his lecture vids and they were very good, really helped me learn. He's very understanding and you can see his passion for math in his teaching. Honestly one of the best professors I've ever had.
This is a clear example of "it's the class, not the professor". Calculus 2 lives right next door to Satan in hell, but Dr. M will live right next to Steve Irwin in heaven. His notes are very helpful and give clear directions to how to solve the problems, but the class is very HW heavy and WebAssign is not a very "partial credit" software. Cool guy
Dr. McArdle is an absolutely wonderful teacher. Calc 2 as a subject is horrendous but he does a great job at making the material easy to digest without over complicating anything. Very accessible via email outside of class and always gives very generous extra credit for exams. All around a very genuine guy that just wants his students to succeed
There isn't a lot of homework but it is on web-assign so it is a little difficult. The video lectures did not help, the q-center was very helpful in this class. The practice exams are exactly like the exams so study those! There are a lot of extra help opportunities to help if you are struggling.
Dave is an amazing professor. He knows what he is talking about, and he cares about his students & wants them to pass. The only negative thing is that the homework problems are much harder than the examples from the lectures. But his lecture notes are very organized and he prepares the class well for exams.
The notes he provided were awesome and extremely helpful. Tests are very difficult and I suggest going directly to him rather than the TAs. Not an easy class.
Dave was a great professor for Calc 2. It is a pretty difficult class and requires a lot of time, but he provides recorded lecture videos and guided notes which were very helpful. If you do all the assignments and take the time to understand the material, you will do well.
Asynchronous lectures make it easy to work at your own pace, along with clear explanations help understanding.
The best teacher at uconn by far! If you take calc 2 with him it will definitely be an easy A. His lectures are soooooo well done, and I've never seen a math teacher explain anyting so clearly. Don't buy the textbook... he gives you everything you need to know in his videos. If you took AP calc AB, this class will be a breeze.
Dave is soooo kind, and his colorful notes are very helpful. His explanations are always very clear. Cal 2 is difficult, but he makes everything understandable and acceptable. I wish I could take his 1131. My favorite professor at UConn.
My class with him was semi-online so we would meet once a week for a quiz (or optionally twice). We simply watched the lectures on our own time and this helped relieve stress on my schedule. The topics may be difficult but the homework (Web-assign) covers ALL the content for exams so if you can do the homework, you can do the exams.
Very good lectures and notes, made calc 2 very understandable. Mandatory quizzes every week, online lecture videos
McArdle is such a good professor. He explains problems and methods thoroughly, and takes time to answer questions. The format of the class is really good. GO TO THE LECTURES AND ASK QUESTIONS! This class will be much easier if you engage in the online lectures, rather than telling yourself that you will watch them later.
I really enjoyed the lectures given in this class. They were online, which was a bit upsetting, however notes were very clear and concepts are explained very well. He also offers review sessions and is accessible for office hours which are beneficial. You will not regret taking Calc 2 with Dave. Relatively high workload, though.
Awesome professor. Gave lots of extra credit opportunities. Grade based on weekly homework, weekly discussion worksheet, 3 midterm exams and final exam. One discussion every week is a Q&A and the other is the weekly worksheet
Amazing lecturer. Notes are so well organized and he truly wants to help his class learn. He actually makes Calc 2 bearable, I wish I could have him teach my other math classes.
Dave is awesome and after I almost failed Calc 1, I passed his Calc 2 class with almost an A. You have to really understand lecture material but he gives lots of opportunities to get extra help. Activities and quizzes in discussion are easy for the most part and homework can be found online as a last resort, but most aren't that bad.
I learned so much in this class and would absolutely recommend it to anyone. McArdle is super organized and clear which made the class low stress. You can tell he cares about his students and enjoys teaching the subject.
Dave is such a great professor! he is super helpful during office hours and he doest mind going over a question multiple times if you don't understand it. His office hours have been super helpful and I've learnt so much during them. His notes are amazing and he records his lectures so I normally skipped them and still did very well in class.
Dr. McArdle is probably the best lecturer I've ever had. I never went to his live lectures but he provides pre-recorded content that makes asynchronous learning possible, which was great for my course load. You can honestly tell how much he enjoys what he teaches and his passion for mathematics. Without exaggerating, a truly 11/10 professor.
Dave had very clear and concise lectures, even though the lectures were online and prerecorded. Discussions were also clearly outlined, so you knew what to expect with each class, and how you attendance would matter and affect your grade. He also provided opportunities for a few extra credit points on each exam.
Great lecturer, willing to help. It is a hard class but he makes it feel easier.
He is by far one of the best professors I have had. His notes that he uses during lecture as well as the notes that are given from previous years are one of the best I've seen. He is a great guy and you wouldn't regret going. His notes are super clear and you can easily study off them as if you wrote them yourself
One of my favorite professors. Very nice guy and clear lecturer. You can tell he wants his students to succeed.
Dave is the most genuine and caring professor I've ever had. He's an awesome lecturer, his notes are very helpful, and he's available outside of class for extra help. He's lenient on deadlines and very understanding about other coursework you have. He really wants his students to succeed. Take him if you can!
I have winter class with Dave, such a wonderful and inspiring professor, take math with him. He makes me wanna change my major to math! THE course is clear and easy to follow. Grading is super fair! I love this course. I took MATH 1071Q winter course online, but i still learn a lot from it. TAKE IT!
As great as math professors come. Probably as great as professors come, period. Super attentive, email response rate was so fast it might be a record. Super caring and dedicated to bettering the grades and learning experiences of students. Do the extra credit! You don't have to in order to pass but it can boost your grade a ton. Pretty EZish math!
The other reviewers say it well, he's just flat out awesome.
His reviews say it all. David is an outstanding professor that proves every lecture that he cares about his students and how they're doing in class. His notes are very clear, everything is accessible online, and he always ensures he is available outside of class. You'll never feel unprepared for quizzes or exams cause he'll go through what's needed
When I mean Dave was the best professor I've ever had, I mean it. I took his online lecture course and they were very straight forward. However, I did attend in person lessons when I had time. Dave is such a caring person and wants all his students to succeed. I actually mean it. Take Dave no matter what.
Lectures and videos are very helpful. The online homeworks were always much harder than the quizzes, the examples he gives are very similar to the the quizzes and exams. Prof McArdle is always very helpful. He is one of the best professors at UConn.
Dave is hands down the best professor for Calc 2, and is honestly the best professor I've ever had. His lecture notes and clear, concise, and organized. Quizzes and exams are not meant to trick you. The HW can be difficult, but if you can complete those you'll get As on every quiz and exam. Truly, without exaggeration, an 11/10 professor.
Dave was by far my favorite professor I have ever had at UConn. He has incredible shell notes to complete during lecture as well as recorded videos. He always makes himself available and is very responsive to emails. Exams are challenging because they're departmental. 10/10 recommend Professor McArdle!!
Great professor. I took the online section with 2 TA discussions each week and it was great, I'd recommend McArdle to any future Calc 2 students
He is an amazing professor and mainly cares about his students learning. He is always accessible and tries his best to answer any question you have to the fullest. Overall just the best math professor I've ever taken and recommend him to everyone.
Professor McArdle is amazing. I took the online section, and I never actually met him in person, but he is an incredibly nice guy. His prerecorded videos are one of the best math resources I've ever seen. The class isn't too hard as long as you prepare, especially by going to both discussion sessions every week.
McArdle is the best calc professor I've had at UCONN so far. He genuinely cares about his students and makes lectures interesting. Weekly quizzes and exams are easy, and you are prepped for questions during lecture and discussion.
I had Dave for the summer class and he was an incredible calc prof. His lecture videos were easy to follow and the assignments + exams were fair. He had tons of extra help hours available every day so I always felt supported. He also offered many extra credit opportunities. I definitely learned a lot in this class and had an enjoyable time doing it
My glorious king.
If you take Calc 2 take it with this guy.
After my awful experience in Calc 1 I didn't have high hopes for Calc 2. However, Dr. McArdle was such an amazing professor. He has such happy dad vibes, his lectures/notes are aesthetically pleasing, and he has an amazing way of explain difficult concepts. I hate math and I'd still take his class again.
McArdle is such a kind and helpful professor. He makes calc 2 so easy and a great lecturer!!
Dave is the best professor I've had. His lectures are real helpful and interesting and he has so many different ways to prepare and review each topic. For each test and quiz he goes over what to expect and the best ways to prepare and he genuinely made this class so easy compared to calc 1.
Dave is an amazing teacher. He uses a lot of in class examples that really help explain the material and he is mostly accessible after class. He teaches really well and is super nice and easy to talk to if you have any questions. The workload is tough and the tests too but that is not Dave's fault it's just the material.
Dave is genuinely one of the best teachers I've ever had. His lectures are clear and detailed, he is easy to contact if you need him, and the (harder) examples he provides for his classes are representative of what is on the quizzes and tests. He'll tell little stories in class that are legitimately funny. You do need to attend class to pass.
His lecture videos guarantee that you will get at least an 80+ in every exam. Great guy as well only critique is that he goes off topic a few times and the length of his videos could be shortened. Definnilty was possible to get an A in this class. One of the best professors in math department.
I took online calc with David. Excellent personality, and an amazing teaching style. All the notes are clear and useful for the exams. Weekly participation which is just answering a couple of questions or posting a question. He is very understanding of situations and is one of the best professors in UCONN.
I did not have Dr. McArdle but his online lecture videos were very helpful for me. The professor I did end up getting was not very helpful and I learned nothing from his lectures so I had to find another way to learn. So I stumbled upon these lecture videos and amazing is an understatement. Dr. McArdle basically me the entire course.
He is an amazing guy. I had a bad experience with Calc 2 previously with another professor. He ade understnading the material so easy and he gave ample time to complete assignments. The practice exams are just like the real ones so def use those. He has problem sessions weekly and has a lot of office hour availability. I definitely reccomend him.
David McArdle is the best professor I have ever had. After getting a C in calc 1 I was dreading taking calc 2, but Dave has made the course much more easy to understand. His lectures are very informative, and he prepares you for each quiz and exam. His exam reviews have helped tremendously.
There is a reason he has a 5/5! He is hands down the kindest and most helpful professor I have ever had. I did his online lectures, but he also did weekly synchronous review sessions which were even better. If you need more help, his office hours are great too. Quizzes, homework, 3 exams, and a final. If you put the work in you will be successful.
Goat nuff said
He is such a king. I took Calc 2 online and he was amazing but I think I would've done better if it was in person. He is so helpful during office hours though and cares so much about his students. He has such a passion for math and he makes it so much more enjoyable. If you have to take calc 2 take it with McArdle!
Professor McArdle is the best professor I have had thus far. He is very caring to his students, and his lectures are always very enjoyable. Only one homework assignment per week, which the deadline is very soft. There is one quiz every week, which is made up of 3 questions and they are always very easy.
This man singlehandedly inspired me to add a math minor. His lectures are unmatched and his notes are aesthetic. The other reviews say it all, he loves teaching and it shows in every lecture. Real genuine guy. Clearly lots of effort and care is put in behind the scenes to make class as comprehensive as it is. I wish McArdle taught all math at UConn
Professor Dave has to be one of the best professors I have had at UCONN. I took the summer 5 weeks course and the material was dense within that time, however, he made himself available and gave us so much stuff to practice from. Calc 2 is very heavy content-wise, but if he makes it doable in the summer, then it's probably even better in semester.
One of the best professors at UConn, I didn't even have him I was struggling with another professor and decided to watch his videos instead. Calc 2 all of a sudden became easy. Calc 2 tests were difficult but he taught so well it doesn't even matter.
Made me realize that math was enjoyable. Genuinely a great lecturer, combined casual terminology and mathematical reasoning so that you can both understand and apply the course to different areas. I would pay for him to learn other subjects just so he could teach them. Also funny and super super caring.
The goat professor for mathematical modeling! Professor David is extremely knowledgeable, caring, and respect each of his student. His class is also very enjoyable and entertaining. Highly recommended!
It's been a year and McArdle is still genuinely one of the best professors I've had at UConn. I recommend him to everyone. I've never met someone who cares so much about his students succeeding.
An AMAZING professor. His lectures were awesome and his grading criteria is great. You are graded on a wide range of things including exams and projects which made being successful in the class super assessable. Highly highly highly recommend taking any math course with Professor McArdle! Best professor I've had at UConn
Best Math Professor I have ever had. McArdle is an awesome guy and makes Calc 2 a walk in the park. He gives so many resources and honestly cares about the students. Take it with him!
TIMMMYYYYYYYY
Literally an icon, love him. Anytime I had questions I would go to office hours and he would answer them perfectly. Best teacher ever, take calc 1132 with him. He even rounded my 91 to an A because he noticed that I worked hard and came to office hours.
Ok so I don't even have king as my 1132 professor but OMG WISH I DID. my professor gave us a link to his recorded lectures and i swear that is the ONLY reason i have any clue what i am doing.
David is such a good professor, he actually cares about his students and if you shoot him an email about a mishap, he will usually let it slide the first time. He prepares you well enough for the exams and I would recommend him.
If you take anything from this, TAKE DR. MCARDLE! I thought I was bad at math my whole life until I took him. He explains math so beautifully, and it feels like a second language to me now. I love him so much that I enrolled for his calc 2 summer class. Professor Mcardle changed my life, he is by far the best professor I've EVER had.
LOVE DR. MCARDLE! I struggled in AP Calc in highschool, and the way he explained calculus really was eye-opening. The class was only "easy" because he taught extremely well and comprehensibly. He will replace your lowest exam grade with your final if it will boost your grade. Extremely kind soul, literally godsent. Thank you God for David McArdle!
no glaze but this guy's my calc II king
Love the guy, and he was a good integral part of my calc II career, I still suck at calc but at least david my king was with me the entire time.
There is a reason Dave has almost 5 stars on here. He is extremely caring and actually wants you to succeed in math. Quizzes and exams are taken in discussion so you have to go but they are fairly easy and manageable. He gives lots of extra learning opportunities and takes "attendance" in lecture with activities that basically are free points.
TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!!!
Very caring and assessible outside of class. Lectures were incredibly helpful and well taught. Provides a lot of ways to gain additional practice in the modules, although the homework did not feel helpful as they were way more difficult than the tests/quizzes. Weekly quizzes and three exams, lowest quiz drops.
I suck at math and I failed the course but I'm gonna try and take it with him again
This class is so hard but take it with him, not anyone else. I shit the bed in the first half of the semester by not attending lectures and flopping the weekly quizzes ( yes weekly, every discussion 10 total) but still managed to pass. Just need to attend his lectures from day one and not fall behind, too easy to get lost in the sauce
So bad. It was full of stupid electrical engineers who could for the life of them do math. How is this a 3000 level math course. We did nothing. If you want any academic rigor then don't take this. I regret this class the most and I took biochem. Ontop of that he had the audacity to not give me a 100 on my final project that I went wayyy overboard.
Fever dream course, one of those where you finally succumb to death in the end like a victorian child. Why did we learn about compound interest in a 3000 level math course? I see why people like him and the class. I didn't.
I really liked him as a professor for this class. I failed Calc II the first time I took it, so getting a B- felt awesome. He's very nice and clear about his notes/lectures and he actually cares and wants people to do well. I HATE Calc II, but he made it feel a lot easier than it did before.
don't be fooled by the good reviews. yeah, he's nice, but that doesn't excuse how awful this class was. the weekly quizzes were relentless and felt like busywork. the tests were insanely long and overkill. would not recommend at all
hands down one of the best professors for calculus 1&2. had pre recorded lecture videos and loads of extra credit to boost the grade.
The literal best professor at uconn
One of the best math professors I have ever had. I came from a semi-strong calculus background and came into the class late. It was easy to catch up to the current unit via the pre-recorded lectures. Everything is really easy as long as you put in the effort and study. His lectures are long but not boring. If you go to lectures you will be fine.
Very good lectures & gives time for questions. Quizzes are weekly 3-4 questions, but the topics of the questions are explained. Do not necessarily have to go to lecture if you go to Calc night, do concept checks, and lecture activities. Good notes & examples. Homework problems are harder than the tests/quizzes. 2 midterms/tests & the final.
Dr. McArdle is a great guy and professor. His lectures are fantastic, teaching you everything that you need to know. There's a Calculus II Quest, where you can get points for participation in lectures, practice quizzes, and Calc Night. For weekly quizzes, you'll review before and then take the quiz. If you do the lectures and HW, you'll do fine.
Dave is by far the best professor I've ever had. I have him for Calc 2 right now and he really has made me fall in love with math. He color codes his notes, posts online lectures and you can pass the class without ever going to the lectures. There are so many resources outside of class. The weekly quizzes are super easy too!
He's such a nice guy and it's clear he wants his students to succeed.
He is THE BEST. As someone who was scared about not making it thru calc II, he made it really easy to learn, and easy to get a good grade in the class even if you're not the best test taker. If you prefer not going to class, his online lecture videos were god to learn from (which were also helpful for reviewing for exams)
great professor
Best professor OAT and it's not crazy to say that. Sooooo passionate about teaching and you can tell he truly cares. Makes calc easy.
he is a very good professor and he makes sure his students are caed for. I took him for calc 1 and 11 and amazing professor would highly recommend taking him over any professor
GREAT professor. Has lecture unit shells that you can keep track on and do while in class. Attendance is not mandatory, but I found coming to class and writing the notes in person better for me. Has been a great professor for Calc 1 and 2. Made me feel like there are professors out there who is not trying to take me out. Exams and quizzes are alike
He is genuinely such a kind and passionate person. His lectures are extremely easy to follow, and he has a lot of resources available to do well, including online videos on every unit. His quizzes and exams are straightforward if you understand the content well. You definitely need to attend lectures or watch lecture videos to do well. Take Dave!!!
David McArdle is an amazing professor! He uses color coded notes and note shells that he fills in class and teaches you everything you need to know. Weekly quizzes are given in discussion on previous week's material, but are not too bad. Homework is harder than the actual exams and quizzes. Practice/mock exams are given to help studying as well.
Great teacher honestly can't complain.
Such an amazing teacher that made me love calculus. Extremely productive lectures. If you go to class and review your own notes you will do great. The tests are exactly like what he teaches in class. Incredible guy. Super neat handwriting too. Don't recommend skipping class even though lectures are optional. Examples from class show up on tests.
Best math prof I've taken at UConn. Lectures are clear, explains concepts well, and posts notes and lectures videos online. Super accessible and easy to navigate despite the difficulty of the course itself. Very personable overall as well, would take again.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! Only class I've taken that I've enjoyed going to because he just teaches so well. If I didn't have him, I would've failed! Take him if you can! Explains the material clearly although there is a TON of content. Lots of opportunities to improve your grade especially through the final exam.
Great professor who teaches the material clearly and cares about teaching the students.
While I found the class content to be extremely difficult, that was at no fault to Dave. He's a wonderful guy and really cares about his students. Notes were very organized and color coded and had other instructional videos to help. Hes an awesome professor!!
