I would encourage all students to take this course. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and learning all about meditation and the mind. Sasha was a bonus!
Professor McCormick is a kind hearted teacher who leads his students with care. You must keep an open mind when going into this class, and allow yourself to not be scared to change your mindset. This course changed how I view myself and my surroundings. I 100% recommend not only this course, but Mr. McCormick as a professor overall.
Easy class, but very interesting plenty of real life applicable concepts taught. Brought his puppy Sasha into class which is awesome.
David really tries to make every class enjoyable, he cares about his students and their success. Would highly recommend this class.
This class was very enjoyable and introduced me to alot of topics and subjects I was eager to learn about. The course structure is very planned out and Mr.Mcormick and the GEs are super wonderful and inspiring ! It was a pleasure to take this class.
Professor McCormick always made my day better and the class was a breath of fresh air. I learned so many things and would highly recommend the class.
He is one of the nicest person i have ever met, truly radiate happiness and spreads it to everyone he comes in contact with.
David McCormick is a PHENOMENAL professor and this class has been a light for me this whole term. His lectures are interesting and entertaining. He brings his dog Sasha to most classes with him, giving a more personable and happier tone to his classroom. His goal is to finish with giving the whole class an A, but also encourages you to work for it
Love Professor McCormick and his dog Sasha. I learned so much in this class because I wasn't constantly stressed about it. 10/10 Class.
Professor McCormick is awesome. BI170 has a very light workload with online quizzes for each lecture that boosts your grade. I enjoyed his lectures very much, the material was interesting and easy to understand, and his dog is hella cute. I would definitely take this class again because Professor McCormick wants you to succeed.
This class was super helpful and always interesting. You can tell Prof. McCormick cares a lot about what he is teaching. the workload of the class was easy and there were weekly online quizzes that were open note/book.I would definitely take another class with this Prof. McCormick.
Don't let the ratings fool you. Professor McCormick's lectures are insanely boring, repetitive, and unrelated to the homework. I would only take this class if you are looking for an easy A. He re-teaches the same topics every week and is irrelevant. He reads word for word off his slides.
most chill class ive ever taken, prof is literally blessed by the dalai lama
As long as you come to class, it isn't very difficult. Best part of class is that he brings his dog Sasha.
He made every class very interactive which made the classes fun and entertaining. It was always a pleasure to show up to class and discussion sessions. Sasha (his dog) is the best part of class.
This course was super interesting and I think beneficial for the future. Professor McCormick is very interactive and helpful in his lectures. It felt like we were learning helpful life skills.
David is so caring and always makes sure we know he values us as people more than our grades or how we perform as students. This class teaches incredibly valuable life skills, and is by far my favorite class I have taken at UO.
Prof. McCormick is the best. He's a really down-to-earth and honest guy who is also very knowledgeable and smart. He loves teaching this class and obviously genuinely cares about his students and their well-being. He is always willing to talk and answer questions while also crafting a class that isn't too difficult but is truly beneficial.
Overall, an amazing class. Great class for incoming freshman or anyone who doesn't want to be drowned in work and just wants to learn about happiness. 2 online quizzes weekly that are open note and open book. Midterm was also open note, and the final is a big research project you have plenty of time for. Lectures were planned out and fun!
This class was great and pretty interesting! It was really easy and fun to get involved to the weekly activities. Mr. McCormick was easy going and gave a lot of care to his students. Sasha is the best!
Professor McCormick was great! He not only showed how much he cared about us by teaching us so many helpful life tips, but also just by the way he treated us. He also brought his dog to class each day, and it really helped bring a smile to all of us.
I really enjoyed this class. The topics were really interesting, and it was cool to be able to apply them to my daily life. Professor McCormick is very passionate about this class and his students, and it shows. I would highly recommend taking this class, its beneficial, interesting, not difficult, and he brings his dog to class each lecture :)
Whether you're taking this class in person or async, I highly recommend it. Prof. McCormick truly wants all students to succeed. Lectures are engaging and so special (he begins every video with a check-in with his dog and places to explore in Eugene) and quizzes are straightforward and open-note. The content of this course is life-changing!
Prof McCormick was a pleasure to have. He would open up online lectures on his hikes and adventures all over Oregon with his dog Sasha, who is also part of the class and comes to lectures and meditation sessions.
Very caring and nice.
I highly recommend taking this class it is super inspirational. The subject is really interesting and Prof McCormick does a great job at being engaging.
I took this course asynchronous and had a good about of busy work. But it was a good class and I was never stressed about deadlines. I would recommend taking the class in person to get the most out of the material. The professor was very kind and always gives outside help and extra credit assignments to make sure you get a good grade!
This class was great. I recommend taking it in person. He offers extra credit, makes assignments accessible and interesting, and is considerate of student feedback. The content is super cool and informative for students! And he takes the time to host sound baths and meditations for students. Highly recommend this course.
Incredible class, incredible professor
Professor was amazing, definitely worth taking this class.
This class was very enjoyable and easy to understand. I took the online version but he also offers lectures in person which I'm sure would be very interesting! Weekly homework that was actually beneficial to our learning. If you're thinking about taking this class, 100% do!
Highly recommend taking this class. Perfect combo of interesting and valuable content of the class, easy enough assignments, and Dr. McCormick really wants everyone to succeed. I was in the ASYNCH section but I would do the in-person lectures if I ever took this class again.
Very nice and helpful.
Super fun course!I took in the in person class but took most of the notes out of class, as attendance isn't mandatory. Honestly a lot more reading than I thought there would be. There are quizzes after every lecture on the videos, readings, and lecture -out of 5
Great class! If you need a science credit, I recommend BI 170 with Professor McCormick!!
BI 170 was great with Professor Mccormick! It was relatively easy, as long as you watch the lectures and show up to discussion section. I would recommend this class to anyone looking for an easy and fun science credit. His dog Sasha is also adorable!
Very nice and helpful
Professor McCormick has been an amazing teacher! His passion for the subject was evident in every lecture, and really made even the most complex topics feel easy to learn, as well as making it very approachable and interesting. Professor McCormick has a remarkable ability to explain intricate biological concepts with clarity and enthusiasm.
Dr. McCormick is a great professor. The class was informative, engaging, and relevant. The class was hands-on and taught many beneficial practices. I am glad I took the course!
Professor McCormick is just such a down to earth and happy guy who only needs his family and dog to be happy in life. I always looked forward to attending his class, not just for his dog Sasha, but for the helpful information that could be applied in everyday life.
super easy course load, get to learn about mental health and gives you a science credit!
One of if not the chillest professor I have ever taken, lectures are super fun and much of what we go over is very applicable to real life. highly recommend.
really good professor, lots of learning through videos and articles in his online class, pretty easy but you also lear a good amount :)
Professor McCormick does an amazing job at giving informative lectures and providing clear lecture slides. His style of teaching is lecture based and he provides a variety of supplemental readings, videos, and meditation opportunities throughout the duration of his class. You can tell he is passionate about what he teaches.
David is such an amazing professor. You can tell he is very passionate about happiness and genuinely cares about students success. And beyond that he is just a wonderful guy who wants to see you succeed and be happy. I really recommend this class.
I loved taking this course. It was something that really peaked my interest, and Professor McCormick does an even better job of instilling that. He is straight-forward about his grading, and gives lots of extra credit to make up for any assignments. I had an awesome time taking this course, and love his dog, Sasha too. Hope to have him again!
This is the best class you will take. I know people just take it because they need a science credit, but seriously it is so valuable. I learned so much and I think I'm a better person because of it. I would 100% recommend taking this class.
I really enjoyed this course. Professor McCormick is a great teacher and charismatic person. You can tell that he cares about his students and wants us to be happier people! I learned how to improve my mental health in this class, and the discussions are a very welcoming and warm environment. The TAs are also great! Can't say enough good things.
Dr. McCormick was a pleasant professor. He had a genuine passion for the course topics. The lectures are available online since attendance isn't graded, but the lectures in person were cute because he brings his dog!
Dr. McCormick is very passionate and knowledgeable about his field. There is a paper at the end but besides that, the class is pretty simple. Discussion attendance is graded but lectures are not. They are also available online and in person but he brings his dog Sasha in person!
David is very personable, and loves to get to know students if they're interested. Class was super easy and had a lot of material to learn from. Helped bring a lot of important things like gratefulness and mindfulness into my everyday life. Easy A, but you only get out of it as much as you put into it.
Prof McCormick was a fantastic teacher! Attend his lectures not only are there weekly quizzes on them but you will learn so much valuable information. He is the most understanding professor and is there to make sure his students succeed. If you can take his FIG! He has taught me valuable lessons on happiness that I will remember forever!
David is super nice and so are the TA's. BIO170 is a great class to take and it super easy and also kinda fun.
David is a wonderful professor! His class was one of my favorites I have taken at UO. He is a great mentor and wants you to succeed. If you do what is asked if you and listen, you will leave with many life lessons.
Such an awesome guy and the most valuable course I've taken in college. Thanks a lot, David!
There are many activities that David offers from meditation to movie nights. I highly recommend this class to learn about happiness.
This class was not only interesting but engaging. Professor McCormick is an incredible teacher who not only wants everyone to succeed in class but in life. The homework load is light and only had one exam and a research project which was not difficult. Yes he does have a fluffy white dog name Sasha but that wasn't what made the class it was him.
Some of the information that is taught in this class is like no other. Much of it can be taken and applied to your own life. This professor is very kind and forgiving. As well, they allow for many extra credit opportunities, so getting a good grade is very attainable.
I've found Professor McCormick to be an extraordinary teacher who goes beyond conventional teaching methods. I appreciate his dedication to not only teaching but also involving us in real-world applications, which makes learning more impactful. His fair approach to grading quizzes, discussions, and papers motivates me to put in my best effort
McCormick is such a great professor. He had a good schedule and the class wasn't heavy in work or reading. It was easy to navigate and a fun course!
my favorite professor, take this class!!!!
Mr. McCormick is one of the most caring professors at UO, and this class truly changed my perspective on life. I cannot recommend this class enough, I think it is a class that every student should take at some point in time. He is also crazy successful in his field and worth a google search, highly recommend.
This class was one of the best classes I have ever taken! It is all about the neuroscience behind happiness! With meditation and sound baths, Professor McCormick teaches how to find new ways to experience happiness and it has truly been so impacting! I would 10000% take this class again!
Such an amazing class. Super easy and fun. Very special professor who has the best interest of everyone in mind. He also always brings his dog Sasha to every lecture :) 10/10 would recommend
You will not meet another professor who cares more about his students. Take this class if you are interested in becoming a better version of yourself.
Great Professor! He cares about his students and gives great feedback on lectures and assignments that we can take with us in our lives. Can't recommend this class enough, it's very interesting, fun, and insightful.
First off if you're looking for an easy science credit and this class is available, jump on the opportunity to take it. There's really only one big paper the whole class and with some time you'll get it done. Overall he's great. On the first day he said "everyone starts with an A and my goal is that you finish with an A as well".
The most inspiring professor I've met thus far the University of Oregon. The course is designed to teach students about how the brain functions in order to produce happiness. Lesson plans Professor McCormick teaches helps to clarify how we are limiting ourselves from reaching peak happiness and how to show gratitude for the present moment.
Professor McCormick is amazing! The class material is super interesting and you can tell that he actually cares about the subject and the well being of his students. There are many opportunities for extra credit and you can be creative with the assignments. This is definitely my favorite class taken at UO and I can't recommend enough!
Intro to Happiness should be taught in all colleges. Dr. McCormick does an excellent job conveying the material and making it enjoyable!
His class was really interesting and taught very well. I took it async but he kept the video lectures interesting and engaging. This class topic was really wonderful and benefitted a lot of people. He is really professional, supportive, and understanding!
LOVE THIS TEACHER. NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE THIS ON EARTH. ITS A BEAUTIFUL THING TO BE VULNERABLE AND NOT JUDGED FOR IT:)
This class is a good class for science credits, as long as you go to the lectures you should have every opportunity to do well. There are post class quizzes that are completed online which is why its important to attend the lectures.
Professor McCormick is a great professor. He cares a lot about his students and he puts a lot of time and information into his lectures. Attendance for discussion sections count to your final grade. There are weekly quizzes and discussion posts are simple to complete. There is one large assignment due at the end of the term. I recommend this class!
Best class I have taken at this school
The way he teaches and conveys the information in the lectures is extremely understandable. Even when teaching difficult scientific concepts, Dr. McCormick makes the material easy to grasp. Dr. McCormick assigned a moderate amount of work for the course, however all of it felt necessary to further my understanding of the material.
This is a fun class too take! You learn a lot about yourself and everything around you! Take this class if you enjoy learning about happiness and if you want better self habits!
I loved this class! I wish I did better on the midterm as it affected my overall grade and I feel as though I should've received higher. But overall, amazing class and amazing lectures.
Hi really liked this class and this teacher !
The teacher is really nice and helpful!
He is a great teacher! Online class lectures were long but interesting. Homework assignments were useful, many discussion posts where you interact with other students. Weekly quizzes were short but not too hard if you watched the lectures. Highly recommend for a science credit!
One of the nicest and most dedicated professors I have ever met. He cares far deeper than grades and assignments. This class is really enjoyable, and I fully encourage everyone to really pay attention... It will benefit you. A really refreshing class to take in the midst of the chaotic stress of college.
Great class for those who are not science majors. Long lectures, but everything is open book and graded easy. Additionally, the class is quite interesting, relevant, and beneficial.
I had a great term with Mr McCormick. I learned a lot and would recommend this course to anyone considering taking it. It's not very stressful if you are following along with the material week by week.
There are a good amount of extra credit opportunities. The material in this class is also incredibly useful for daily life.
The class was information, clear, and a good option for getting science requirements out of the way!
Professor McCormick has truly been one of my favorite professors at UO, I have learned so much from this class! The workload is very manageable and the assignments we have all are beneficial to our learning and lessons he teaches. The course content is incredibly relevant to daily life and has been so helpful.
I enjoyed this asynchronous class with in person discussion sections. I enjoyed learning in class concepts such as journaling or meditation. I strongly recommend this class, it was engaging and it challenged me in many ways that I didn't expect going into this course. I appreciated the routine Mr. McCormick kept on canvas.
This was probably one of the best classes I've taken in college. Especially for a science class, it is easy and engaging. The midterm was the only somewhat "difficult" thing but it was open note. You can tell Professor McCormick cares about his students. As long as you do the work you will be fine; Overall would highly recommend this class.
This class taught me practical methods for achieving happiness. The course material, along with Professor McCormick's engaging lectures helped to keep me up to date on assignments. I also really enjoyed all of the ted talks featured in this class, and I will revisit them whenever I need little happiness reminders!
Charlie is awesome! Such a great environment in his class. He cares about his student's education and there are tons of extra credit opportunities. Not too work heavy, very easy to keep up with as long as you do the weekly modules. Would highly recommend this class to anyone!!
He was so kind and genuine! I enjoyed this class, and would definitely consider it to be an easier science credit. There are weekly quizzes on discussion boards, so lectures are really important. There's a test midterm in a paper/project final. I found the class material to be super engaging and interesting. I recommend this class and professor.
He is very good, if you have a hard time in life this will really help you navigate through it.
a great class! it was really insightful and educational, I loved learning about what makes us happier as people and the steps we can take in our day-to-day lives to stay more grateful and less stressed.
He has an open-door policy, he wants you to succeed in his class. As long as you do the work, you should be fine and have an amazing grade. All the GEs and him are accessible and want you to reach out whenever! It is also beneficial to you and your grade to participate in sound baths and the extra credit and meditations. The class is there for you.
I really enjoyed this class it was pretty relaxed and the discussions made you think intrinsically within yourself which was helpful for the purposes of the class.
Great professor and engaging class. This class and professor truly care about your well-being. He emphasized at the beginning of the course that the purpose of this course is was to help and inform us on our well being. All of that came before any grade or assignment which put my mind at ease and allowed me to focus on the actual content taught.
Amazing
He is not only imparts knowledge effectively but also makes learning enjoyable through interactive games. He genuine care for each student's progress creates a positive atmosphere, making the lectures both insightful and fun. He has truly mastered the art of engaging and impactful teaching. Highly recommend!
David McCormick was an amazing professor. It was clear he truly cared about his students and the subject matter.
Professor McCormick stands out as one of the best teachers at the University of Oregon, arguably the finest. His exceptional understanding and commitment to student well-being are truly commendable. His infectious enthusiasm not only maintained my motivation but also deepened my focus and engagement with the course material.
This professor showed up for his whole class! He valued our feedback, but also knew how to shed light to the classroom. I took this class through zoom and he set his canvas up very nicely, as it was easy for me to navigate through canvas. I would take this professor again, in a heartbeat.
One of the best professors I've ever had. He very clearly cares about all of his students and is super passionate about what he teaches. I would recommend taking the class in person instead of online if you are able.
David McCormick is an outstanding instructor. You can tell that he cares about every one of his students. He is a very intelligent and well-presented professor, neuroscientist, and person all around. I highly recommend taking BI170 - Happiness of Neuroscience at Univ. of Oregon. This has been one of my favorite courses in my college career by far!
TAKE THIS CLASS! Dr. McCormick is amazing and cares for his students like no other. He wants the best for his students and for them to become better people after taking his class. Lots of things go into the grade book. There is a hand full of weekly assignments- all doable. Final is a choice paper that is a little lengthly, but nothing too bad.
Super light class. Easily recommend it for anyone unsure of what to take or wanting an easy A.
It's not biology, psychology, and VERY LITTLE neuroscience. This is a class that is only about meditation and tries to get you to meditate constantly. No awareness of mental health issues or how "happiness" means different things to different people, vouches for "meditation = happiness" in every lecture. I now refuse to ever use the word happiness.
The professor genuinely cares about his students, even though he has over 400 people in one lecture. He always has open opportunities to talk and interact with his students when he has time. I think he deeply worries about the younger generation and our mental health.
Prof McCormick is one of the best professors UO has to offer. His lectures are very engaging, light-hearted, and super interesting. I didn't want to miss any lectures. One thing to look out for is the multiple short (normally pretty easy) quizzes and discussion posts per week, which could sneak up on you a few times if you are not careful!
McCormick is phenomenal. Despite teaching large lectures with hundreds of students he makes it extremely clear that he cares for each and every one of us. His insight on the topic of mental health and how to maintain a serene state of mind never feels fabricated- I leave this class refreshed and in a better mood every time. Work load is light too!
David truly is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. He cares so deeply for each of his students and wants to help them in any way possible. He holds weekly meditations which are super helpful and an amazing opportunity to get to know him and his dog, Sasha. Very passionate about what he does and brings an amazing attitude to neuroscience!
Professor McCormick is without a doubt the best teacher I have had here at UO. It is clear that his primary goal is to see his students do well and equip them with the skills to be happier humans. Each week consisted of lecture notes, discussion boards, quizzes, and some sort of activity. It was all very manageable and easy to stay on top of.
Canvas page is so confusing and stresses me out
This professor was amazing. I very much enjoyed being in this class. The workload was not a lot and it was fairly simple. It is mostly discussion posts and quizzes. As long as you take good notes and pay attention, then you should receive an A in this class. I highly recommend this class!
I have really enjoyed this class so far. There is a module due at the end of the day of class. There is an exam that was over the lectures and some of the other material. Also, there is a final project. Overall, great class and helped me learn more about happiness and how to apply it to my life.
loved this class and I learned a lot from it
Professor McCormick is a great teacher and makes learning about happiness very fun. He brings in his dog, Sasha, and does fun activities throughout the class, such as Mentimeters, giving our gift cards, and t-shirts. The class workload is not hard, but the midterm is something you want to study for. I definitely recommend this class.
This teacher was great. It was one of the only classes I didn't wanna skip and wanted to be there for. This class can actually help you outside of school. Take this class if you can.
This professor is very inspiring with his work and cares immensely about his students. The weekly work is easy and all his tests and quizzes are open book! Also Sasha his dog is just adorable.
I fully enjoyed Mr. McCormick and this class. I felt like the stuff we learned was important and actually stuff that I can us in my life every single day. I felt like the class was fairley easy and enjoyable. Professor is a fair grader and gives you lots of oppurtunites. I Recommed everyone takes this class
David McCormick is an amazing professor who genuinely wants to see his students grow and take the material he's teaching us in to our day to day lives. I would 100% recommend this course to anyone who wants to just learn how to improve their life and long-term happiness.
David is easily one of my favorite professors I have had at the University of Oregon. I would recommend taking BI 170 to any Biology major or any student looking to receive a science credit. This class will teach you so much on the neuroscience of happiness and help you gain the knowledge, skills and habits to make you a better and happier person.
This has been the best and most rewarding class I have every taken at UO. Amazing professor and fun ways to learn the content that really effects you. TAKE THIS CLASS
Awesome class experience
I have really enjoyed having David as an instructor this term. You can tell he really cares about what he is teaching and he cares that his students do well.
Mr. McCorkmick is an incredible professor. The workload is manageable, and the content is interesting and understandable. But the best part is how passionate and caring he is. I could not recommend this class enough. My GEs for the course were also wonderful. Overall, it was a great experience.
This professor makes the workload very manageable and he makes every class extremely interesting and fresh. There aren't any in-class assignments or tests but attendance is a must.
Professor McCormick is a super great professor who is extremely nice and wants to connect with all of his students on a personal level. The class itself is super interesting and the lectures are super important for the quizzes and midterms. The project is super fun and I love the idea of it. Overall I would recommend this class.
what a great class. learned a lot but easy workload
Mr.McCormick is unique in that it never feels like I am talking to my college professor, but more like my friend's dad or a therapist. It is really nice to be in an environment that is not stress-heavy and serious. He will engage with you and give you time to speak and share your thoughts and emotions. Definitely recommend his class.
Super fun and enjoyable class. Was really interesting and definitely a must-take course
This class was so beneficial — more beneficial than any other classes I've taken at UO. McCormick taught me ways to improve my happiness and different ways to view the world. My perspective changed a lot, and I wish I had taken this as a freshman because it teaches you the best way to live life.
Dr.McCormick Is such a great professor. He's extremely understanding and sweet. He always made sure lectures were engaging and easy. I 100% recommend this class. My favorite was Sasha pup :))
He's a good professor, I took his online class and as long as you keep up with the lectures and the reading you're pretty solid. I didn't think it was a lot of Homework. He provides extra credit through out the term and office hours. I really like what the class it was interesting to learn about.
Professor David McCormick does an amazing job teaching BI170. His lectures are super entertaining and motivating. He is super understanding, and you can tell that he truly cares about his students. I highly recommend taking this course.
Professor David McCormick is awesome! He truly cares about his students and is very understanding. This class was easy to me because I found the topic to be super interesting and inspiring.
This is one of my favorite courses that I have ever taken. Many people I know recommend this class to me because they loved it so much. David makes class super intresting. This is overall just a super fun and inspiring course.
He is very energetic and kind, he wants to show us how we can improve our mindset.
He is very energetic and he wants to show us how we can improve our mindsets.
He is a good teacher by my experience that I only watch he teaches on the video. He provides so many great study resources and explain them well. Only thing is his voice making me sleepy lol.
He really does care about his students! Not a challenging course at all and would def take again!
Amazing professor, interesting lectures and the homework is all fulfilling and interesting! Would definitely take this class again and I recommend it to all my friends! TAKE THIS CLASS
He has a great teaching style and has a lot of experience in his work.
Everything a professor should be. Extremely clear grading policy, understanding, yet very informative. An example of his understanding is that he pushed back the weekly quizzes because of the presidential election.
Super understanding. For example, he pushed back our weekly quizzes because of the presidential election.
The class was presented well. There are lectures, discussions, and readings/videos. All of it is pretty interesting although there is a lot of it. I appreciate the flexibility of the class and you do get something out of it. There is one project in particular that is interesting but it's not super difficult. 4.8/5
good professor
I loved this class and you can tell that Professor McCormick and the GEs truly care about you and your success. I would recommend it for a fun and easy science credit. Also love seeing Sasha!
Best class ever! You can tell McCormick loves his job! Assignments include a few online quizzes, readings, and TED Talks. The workload is pretty light and he gives extra credit. McCormick also brings his dog to lecture every day. BI170 is an easy class to take and allows you to better your own life. Attendance is not mandatory but recommended.
One of the best teachers here. He really loves his job and cares about his students
One of the best professor's that I've had... seriously. He cares about your wellbeing as a human and a student, he's the best and the class is amazing of course. Learned so much new information, watched great TED talks, and overall the class was extremely engaging and insightful.
Easily top 3 courses/professors I've had. The lectures are interesting, relatable, and engaging, and if you miss class, they're posted online. I gen wish I could write more about this prof because him and his class have made me feel so accepted and appreciated. You'll feel happier if you take this course 100%. At least take it to meet his dog.
Professor McCormick is amazing!! I have already recommended his class to all of my friends. If there is one class you should take at University of Oregon it is BI 170. It is very clear that Prof McCormick wants to support his students and you will learn so many useful skills for navigating college and life from him!
Really easy class online if you stay on top of work. The class took me 30 minutes a week.
David is very well-versed in what he teaches, using a wide variety of material in an educational setting. He has a pretty set routine for class and goes through material from a slideshow that students can also access. He is also funny, inspirational, and caring to each of his students!
There is an online midterm and then a final paper on a project of your choice. David is a great guy and my discussion leaders were also great. There's a lot of fun, interesting and good stuff to learn in this course if you pay attention. It is easy and homework doesn't take long.
good class, easy
This class is like no other. The first day he was playing upbeat music like my favorite song "Danielle" by Fred Again. His lectures are very interesting and help you mold your life for after the term is over. Discussion groups are interactive and you can hold a human brain! Highly recommend if you need science credit!
Professor McCormick was amazing. He was very supportive of his students and made sure he connected with them. He's passionate in his teaching and always made sure that everything was extremely clear. Highly recommend you take his class.
Very manageable class, stay on top of your work and there is no reason why you should not get a 100.
He is an excellent professor. If you complete all the assignments and perform well in class, you should earn an A in this course. The class is very enjoyable and straightforward; although there is a fair amount of reading, it is manageable and easy to follow. Plus, he brings his dog to class!
I like Professor McCormick a lot, I think he is very passionate about his class and cares for his students. I will say that sometimes he will only briefly talk about actual Biology and Phycology concepts in class and then we will be tested about the concepts in depth.
Professor McCormick was great, his classes are organized and structured. weekly quizzes, a midterm, and a final project. when I emailed him, he was super nice and understanding. I would 100% take him again as a professor, in my opinion one of the best at UO!
This class was fun and challenging at times. The professor gives a lot of extra credit. You get a reasonable amount of homework, I wouldn't say it's a heavy work load.
Such a fun professor! You can tell he cares about his students and his job. Definitely recommend taking his class! Lots of opportunities for extra credit, one midterm and a final paper/project at the end.
This was an amazing class to take. David found a way to make the content extremely engaging and it also covered science requirements I needed. The weekly homework is 2 discussion post and quizzes on the lecture each week that are open note and open book. He really wants you to succeed in this class and learn about yourself and your well-being.
This course was a great and thoughtful class. Not only was it fun but it also was genuine and you can tell David really cares about his students and is passionate about our wellbeing. The sound bath meditations where great.
I loved his class because he really seems that he cares for his student's wellbeing not just for them to have all have A's. Also, I found his class interesting I learned a lot in his class, and I was even able to be part of this cool study just because I was taking that class.
Amazing class and professor, learned a ton on the online version which was very accommodating. His Dog Sasha is inspirational.
David is awesome! He cares about his students and provides them with real-life applicable skills to increase happiness. He also provides students with opportunities outside of the lecture to practice these skills which is super cool.
Professor McCormick really cares about his students and makes the class super fun and interesting. This class is very straightforward and easy to follow and complete the assignments. He is super passionate about teaching and make sure that his students get the most out of the class. Highly recommend for an easy science credit!
David McCormick is an excellent professor. He is caring and highly dedicated to his field. This class taught me many valuable lessons and is relatively easy. There are quizzes and discussions after every class, one midterm, and a seven-page paper at the end of the course. I would take this class many times over.
David is quite possibly the best professor I have ever taken a class from! He truly cares about each and every one of us, even in huge lectures. This class was not only super fun and easy, it was also very insightful and I feel like I learned a ton. I would take this class every term if I could!
Dr. McCormick's class was easy. Everything is clearly outlined, and the course is designed in a way where it's obvious he wants you to succeed. Lectures were mostly us watching Ted Talks or listening to McCormick read out quotes or slides his GE's made, which was a little disappointing considering he's a really smart guy.
I really appreciate how Professor McCormick set up Canvas. Everything is very straight forward and laid out for us to succeed. I think the lecture videos can be shortened just a tad in order to keep students engaged. When videos are too long, students can sometimes lose interest in what they are learning. I enjoyed this class very much!
Great class if you need to fulfill a science credit!
I think this professor did a great job displaying information and made it easy to access assignments and links to help.
He's an alright professor
This was a great class. He wants everyone to get an A! The prof truly cares about all of his students and wants to teach us life skills to lead a happier life. Every week he has meditations and you can sign up for a "meet you prof" lunch. There are videos and reading which can be repetitive sometimes but it's all great information. Would recommend!
Professor McCormick was an amazing teacher, I recommend taking BI 170 with him. If you're looking for an easier elective credit that is still fun and interesting then definitely take this class. He is one of the most caring professors I have had at UO and he brings his dog Sasha to every class which is so cute.
Best professor ever. If he was a cult leader, I would join.
I was in the Science of a Good Life FIG and Bi170 (every Freshman should take). This course helped me meet friends and new people. The class focuses on the academics of happiness and the real changes you can make to improve your life. I loved the weekly meditations, and David wants to help you succeed and find your inner happiness. Take this class!
One of the best professors I have ever had. Truly cares about you outside of class.
Dr. McCormick himself was alright, but I hated the class. The content was incredibly boring and repetitive, and the amount of work was ridiculous. I took 3 other classes this term, all 300 level, and this class had the most work out of all of them. I would only recommend this class to freshman who want big workloads on easy content.
Professor McCormick makes it so clear he practices his teachings outside of the classroom in the way he treats his students. Awesome professor and would take 10 times again if I could.
I signed up for this class just because I wanted to see Sasha (the dog) in the lectures. But I ended up loving the class and I genuinly learned how to have a better mindset and lleft the class feeling more confident about dealing with stress.
Great teacher and fun class!
this is a great class and i think that everyone should take it you learn so much that will help you be a more happy and the way that he goes about class he makes it very fun.
this was such a fun class you learn so much and it class is always fun he brings his dog.
He is understanding and easy to work with.
McCormick's class is an easy course in terms of workload and the number of assignments. Personally, I found this class to be a great opportunity to set aside the stressors that came with a rigorous workload and really focused on what great life lessons this course taught. Also, I would highly recommend talking to McCormick during office hours!
Professor has a great teaching style
Great professor, very engaging and informational. If you stay on top of the work and watch the lectures, you will succeed
Absolutely loved the topics shared and felt connected through other classmates even though online. lecture structure easy to follow however homework load becomes tedious for only being 100 level. And the professor is very kind, understanding and communicative!
Professor McCormick is an amazing professor and I highly recommend taking him! His lectures are super engaging and the material is intriguing. Homework every week, but it is relatively easy. One online midterm and big project/paper at the end of the course, but they provide lots of instruction and help.
Professor McCormick is an awesome professor, I highly recommend this course. You really get out what you put into it. I learned a lot of amazing tools and information to help my long term happiness.
David is very sweet and puts people in a good mood just with his presence. He brings his adorable dog to class which is awesome. However, I found his lectures to be pretty dull and not very educational. The required discussions were pointless and pretty boring. If you want an easy A, this is the class for you.
Professor McCormick was an incredible lecturer. I learned so much about myself and my emotions. I'm so thankful for this class (and Sasha). Take this class if you have the opportunity!
Professor McCormick takes the extra initiative time and again to make the success of his students the top of his priority. Not only that, but the passion that he has about his field is very clearly shown in his lectures, whether it be in person or not. I would definitely take one of his classes in the future, including the meditations he hosts!
This class is amazing! Dr.McCormick is such a great professor and person. He cares so much about all of his students and genuinely wants them to be happier! Offers a lot of extra help outside of the classroom. Many extra credit opportunities. A reading-heavy class and there are multiple easy quizzes per week. Overall, highly recommend!
David's class is honestly one of my favorite I have ever taken. He is a super kind person and really just wants his students to succeed. If you can take BIO170 with him or any class he teaches, I totally recommend. The class is so easy to pass as long as you do the discussion.
Class is pretty simple, with weekly assignments. But it feels like a lot of busy work.
This professor was excellent at teaching this course. There were quiet a bit of readings and videos in the course materials so do not assume this will be just an easy A. Although this class and McCormick have taught me many useful life skills I will keep with me for my entire life.
Professor McCormick is one of the sweetest humans I have ever met, this class is really helpful and the way he teaches is great.
I think this professor was super accommodating and considerate when it came to grades. but at the same token, I feel like we had extensive amounts of work!
Dr.McCormick was hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. Lectures are engaging and so useful, I've taken so much away from this class, words can't even describe! Take it if you get the chance, you won't regret it!
Overall, Mcormick was a good professor! The class was very interesting and helped you look into your deeper emotions. If you can't get deep with your emotions, do not take this class. The professor expects you to take your emotions to another level.
Class was simple and course materials were straighforward. As long as you do the discussion and coursework on time, this class should be easy to pass. Dr. McCormick really cares and just wants his students to succeed. I recommend taking BI170 with him or any class he teaches.
I really enjoyed this class and it made me really take a good hard look at what makes me happy. It has made me more self aware.
Prof. McCormick made this course interesting and highly intuitive. I was excited to go to the lectures and was genuinely disappointed when I missed them because they contained so much intriguing information. You can tell he cares about his students. I'm not just saying this, I actually really enjoyed this course and would definitely recommend it.
Professor McCormick is amazing and provides so many resources for students to learn and do well both inside and outside the classroom. He doesn't take attendance in lectures but takes attendance in discussion sections. The discussion sections are super collaborative and a lot of fun. Definitely recommend taking this class.
It was always great walking into class knowing that the professor is passionate about motivating and inspiring you minds!
Professor McCormick clearly practices what he preaches, his happiness is contagious. I usually view life through the lens of a pessimistic cynic but BI170 helped me recognize the aspects of my happiness that are within my control. I appreciated the scientific backing of this course and that he did not claim to have all the answers.
Prof. McCormick was super engaging and fun to listen to. He loves teaching this class and is honestly super good at it! I took it online (which was personally not a good choice), but it was very organized and well prepped.
McCormick just wants you to succeed and live a better life. If you take those steps through his class, it will be easy.
This class was very insightful and eye-opening. I highly recommend taking this class if you want to learn more about yourself and want to the best version of yourself you can be.
Professor McCormick is one of the best teachers I've had! He genuinely cares about his students and goes above and beyond to create a positive and engaging learning environment. His passion for teaching and the subject of happiness is so clear, it made the class both enjoyable and inspiring.
Professor McCormick inspired me to find my long term happiness! He was very kind. I would definitely take this class again!
Most easygoing professor I've ever had. Course material is well thought-out, with very little busy work. He makes getting an A super easy by making big assignment deadlines very clear, providing lots of support, and supplying many extra credit options. I 100% would take it again.
This was my favorite professor I have had at the University of Oregon so far! Mr. McCormick and his beautiful dog Sasha bring a fun, open and caring environment to an interactive class.
This class was extremely chill and the professor is super nice and understanding. Highly recommend taking this class!
Great lectures
Great professor!
The class was structured in a helpful way, if you weren't able to attend lectures in person there was an option to watch the videos online. Sasha was there like every single time and made it all worth it. Guest speakers were amazing and came with a lot of great information and insights.
Professor McCormick is one of the best professors I have ever had. He genuinely cares about the contents of the course and he genuinely cares about his students and staff. His lectures, assignments, and discussions are interesting and insightful. He provides great feedback, is understandable, and puts his students first. I would highly recommend.
This class gives you tools for handling real-life issues. This was my favorite class at the UO due to the interesting and unique content being taught.
If you pay attention you will do great! This class has a lot of busy work but it all has meaning, and if you do the work you'll learn a lot about yourself!
Dr. McCormick is truly one of the best professors at UO. He truly cares about his students and the materials he is teaching. There is some busy work involved in the course and a project at the end but it's all meant for your benefit.
Professor McCormick is a great teacher. He is lenient and genuinely wants his students to get a good grade in this class. There is one online midterm and a final paper at the end of the course that is very doable. I recommend taking this class!
Professor McCormick was so awesome, I highly recommend taking this course... I feel like I learned a lot from it. He was very approachable and wants the best for each of his students. So amazing.
Prof McCormick is such a gem. Gentle, genuine guy who cares about each and every one of his students deeply. You could never tell this guy is absolutely goated in his field, he is so humble and approachable. This class is super light, and that's a totally valid reason to take it, but you should actually listen to what he has to say, it's valuable.
David is an amazing teacher, who you can tell truly cares about his class. His lectures are very hands on and has lots of discussion time, and fun activities. He has a very cute dog that comes to class and he is always there to chat or help any student. He truly cares about his class and helping others and I wish I could take this course again!
This professor was super awesome and made this class enjoyable. He had a good balance of teaching and having fun with it. There were weekly videos and readings, along with a few assignments and quizzes. This class covered a super interesting topic but was taught in a fun way. He also gave me a lot of outside-of-class opportunities.
David might be the best professor I've had at this school. Lectures are informative and engaging, and on top of that we love him bringing his dog with him! Brightens the mood of the entire class. He promotes a welcoming and safe environment for education and I think I speak on behalf of the class when I say we are extremely grateful!
Professor McCormick genuinely cares about what he teaches and getting to know his students. I recommend going to office hours and getting to know him because he has very interesting stories. This class had me work harder than I expected but it was worth it.
I really enjoyed taking this class. My professor did a good job of organizing content and making the instructions clear. The course load was not too much and not too little. I would definitely recommend others take this course.
David always had inspiring stories about college to share. His number one priority was the mental health and wellbeing of the students. He always wanted us to be set up for success in our future. Bringing his dog Sasha to class was also a huge bonus.
I loved this class! I would 100% recommend taking this class, it's life changing. This has been the coolest and most rewarding class I have ever taken at UO. Dr. McCormick is an amazing professor who really cares about his students. In this class you learn and implement strategies to make your life better.
I really enjoyed this class, I learned a lot and it definitely impacted my life in a positive way. Professor McCormick is a really cool person and super knowledgable. The structure of the course is super straightforward and not difficult at all!
David is such a wonderful person! this class really helped me change my perspective on things and gave me something to think about! His guest speaker, Rachel Barr, was such a wonderful person to hear speak and made me very hopeful about some things. I would definitely take this class again!
This is my favorite class taught here. I have learned so much and it is genuinely applicable to everyday life. David is so caring and genuinely enveloped in his work. The things he has done are so impressive and he tries to connect with everyone. He also brings his doggo Sasha everywhere. Best science credit ever.
Where do I even start? I LOVEEEEEE Professor David McCormick. He is the most encouraging, supportive, and inspiring teacher. He was my fig leader as well for the Science of the Good Life, Fig. Best fig teacher and professor ever!!!! I highly recommend his class!
GOAT Professor, actually cares about his students and their happiness. This course is very insightful and a great way to learn about the brain and emotions with science!
Engaging professor who keeps lectures interesting
I have only been in this class for 2 weeks and it's already best class I've taken here at U of O. He is incredibly engaging and easy to follow. Easy couple homework assignments each week that don't take up too much time. Would definitely recommend to take this class!
My favorite professor at the UO! The class is set up so you can succeed. So supportive and encouraging, you can tell he truly cares about his work and students, and makes it very easy to reach him outside of class. Lectures are engaging and easy to follow, and actually applicable to daily life. The best!!!
I took BI 170 this term and I can say it was my favorite class. David's lectures are easy to follow, entertaining, and actually helpful life lessons. Super organized and understandable. David is super caring and also actually really cares about his students not just trying to get the lectures done with. I highly recommend this course super fun!
His lectures are amazing, super interesting, and very informative and clear to follow. The biology of happiness is a really fun class to take, and as long as you watch the lectures and complete the assignments, you should be good. Wish I could take it again.
David is a great professor who ensures you take the course seriously while also providing great feedback
McMormick is amazing and one of the better professors I have had. It is a huge lecture, but I didn't have any difficulty knowing where to get support or answers to my questions. He is very knowledgeable and knows how to teach, especially compared to other experts who don't know how to teach people. He's very accommodating and funny. Take BI170!
I loved Professor McCormick. He makes it genuinely hard to do bad in the class because of all his extra credit opportunities. The content is so fun, definitely would recommend, one of my favorite Oregon classes
I always enjoy coming to this class, but there is a ton of classwork involved.
Professor McCormick is truly the best! You can really tell he cares for his students and wants to make sure everyone does amazing in his class! Highly recommend!
He is awesome!
Awesome professor!
He is really nice and cares for his students. His lectures are well thought out and they are really interesting.
One of the most caring professors ive ever had. truly cares about his students and wants everyone to understand the material, not just memorize it. easy to access outside of lectures. participation matters.
Prof McCormick is so happy, and all the lessons tie brain chemistry to happiness in different ways. It is a lot of online modules, but they are helpful for your learning.
Professor McCormick has a very laid back teaching style in class. We read his manuscript which is provided and watch various documentaries and short form content. I learned a lot about happiness and the brain. It does have a lot of reading so be prepared !!!
Professor McCormick is the happiest man in the world. Best professor I've ever had.
While teaching, it can become a little boring, but overall, the course is great. He talks slower, so it's easier to understand and take notes.
Mr McCormick is truly one of the kindest professors you will ever have. He is super easy going, and really wants to better your life. I have enjoyed so much of what he discusses and it's clear he really loves what he does! I definitely recommend this class, especially to fill a core-ed requirement.
I really enjoyed the content of this class, but professor McCormick made it very inspirational. There are lots of fun activities, grading is not harsh, and the content is very interesting and applicable. If you have the option of having Professor McCormick as your teacher, I would absolutely encourage you to take that opportunity.
I took this class my first term of freshman year, I am now a junior and Professor McCormick is still one of the best professors I have ever had. The topics of this class are extremely interesting and he cares about his students and their success. I recommend this class to any student despite their major.
I loved taking this class for my science credit because it was interesting, fairly easy, and I feel like I've taken away important life skills. David is super nice, very caring and all of the class content is tailored towards building skills and happiness.
Professor McCormick is genuinely one of the best professors I have had at UO. He is beyond caring and always wants to help you out. Take this class!!
Really great professor and genuinely inspiring. Gives enough time to get homework done and quizzes done. Midterm was online and open note. Final project is very easy. Offers loads of extra credit. In general just a great class, I always looked forward to attending class.
David is one of the most personable, kind, caring professors. I would love to take another class taught by him!!!! Loved this course and love him!!
BI170 absolutely deserves the hype it receives. I would recommend everyone takes it!
Amazing. Definitely recommend.
The class was absolutely amazing and super informative and thought-provoking. It taught me a lot about how to become a happier and more positive person in my life and to share that joy with others. He's a very forgiving and caring professor and wants all of us to succeed. He's very knowledgeable and well educated. The lectures are always fun.
David's class was AMAZING. There are assignments each week, but they don't take long to get done, and I found myself enjoying the discussion questions and learning a lot about myself. David himself was a great professor and made his lectures very enjoyable with his mentimeters and often meditation breaks. I highly recommend this class.
Prof McCormick is one happy guy!!! I see why he is teaching the science of happiness. If you apply what you learned in this class to your life I guarantee you will be happier by the end of it. Relevant material, easy midterm, great class. Shoutout Mr McCormick!!!
Professor McCormick has been the best professor I've had at the UO. His class is so interesting and you can tell he really cares about his students. You will leave this class feeling happier. I can't recommend him and his class enough. Take it!
Incredible class, one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken. I would take this course over and over again. My friends started noticing how my mood positively changed throughout the course due to some of the practices I tried in the class. Take Bio of Happiness!!! Its so so so fun!!
Super caring and passionate about what he teaches, theres never a boring lecture they are super fun and engaging (im going to miss them), he is very knowledgeable, and has a great personality. Take this class!!!!
I recommend this class with all my heart. Very beneficial for well-being overall!
The only thing I have to complain about is that I took his class my senior year at UO! I wish I would've taken this class my freshman year!
He is the nicest guy and really cares about his students. Class is super easy but still engaging and you can learn a lot from it. One of the best classes I've taken at UO.
David was a really good teacher that made the entire subject significantly easier and not something that I had to worry about adding to my hard course load. The discussions and the classes are mandatory with a couple of drops. The final paper is 6-8 pages long which is rough however.
David is such a great professor and great guy I enjoyed going to his classes. It wasn't difficult or heavy material so it was nice to just go and learn. As a business major looking for good science credits this class was perfect. He always keeps classes interesting and fun. Would 100% take it again if I could.
Super nice and easy science credit for you.
David is a great guy and good teacher who cares a lot about his students, and this class counts as a science credit. The material is so easy, it'd be stupid to not get an A. You can miss three of each lecture, discussions, discussions posts, and quizzes. There is so much extra credit offered during the term, so TAKE IT when it comes.
Dave has an incredible love for his students and their wellbeing. He wants all of his students to be happy and successful, and he shows this in every lecture. He makes every lecture engaging so going to class does not feel like a chore, rather it is enjoyable. He has a modern way of teaching and grading which is refreshing at UO.
Caring and wants every student to succeed. What you put in, you will get back out! You won't ever take another class like thi,s so enjoy it.
Professor McCormick was super fun & engaging during lecture and you learn a lot of useful life skills. Grades are mostly weekly discussion posts and multiple choice quizzes which aren't difficult. The final assignment is a month long project that you have a lot of creative freedom with so the class doesn't take up a lot of your schedule. Just try!
I love going to David's class. It is always something I always look forward to each week because I like to hear about his thought on the lecture. He also cares for the students with their grades by giving extra credits and gives time for us to do our quiz and discussion by Thursday 12pm so then, we don't feel too rushed.
Not a bad class. I recommend taking it online.
The professor does a very nice job connecting with students and making them feel welcomed. Overall, would definitely take this class again.
This professor does a great job of making everyone feel welcomed and connecting with his students. Overall, would 10000% take again. :)
He truly cares about your wellbeing and learning in the course. There is a solid amount of homework but it is all to your benefit to complete it.
Very very fun class however, be prepared to do a lot of homework throughout the week (not weekend). None of it is hard or long but it can be daunting. Make sure if you take this class you have a least a couple hours every week (not weekend).
Great class! The lectures were interesting. Homework wise it was super manageable just make sure to submit everything on time. It follows the same structure the entire term so it's easy to follow. Great professor and would recommend to everyone. Plenty of opportunity for extra credit as well. I loved this class.
Great class. Homework for every class but it was pretty manageable just make sure to stay on top of it. Such a great professor with a great class. And there's plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
Love Prof. McCormick. Great lecturer and energy is amazing.
Great professor and great person. Not getting an an A in this class was my own fault, its an easy A just stay on top of your assignments
Professor McCormick is a great professor and gives students a great amount of helpful insight, especially for students first starting out at college. I definitely recommend if anyone takes a class at UO to take BI 170, great ways to learn how to be happy and stay happy.
Professor is kind, helpful, and genuinely cares about his student/class. Such an easy A and genuinely interesting, would take again!
I absolutely love this professor! Yes this is a biology of happiness class but I didn't expect for him to shape the class to be so focused around our own lives, and I really appreciate how he did it. I truly learned about neuroscience and habits and so much more, while also learning about myself and society. Amazing teacher!!
Professor McCormick is so passionate about enriching the lives of his students. I highly recommend this class for anyone trying to satisfy a science credit or anyone interested in the subject at all. The workload is light, and you get out of the class what you put in.
