He really cared for his students. He even emailed me when I was failing the class also gave good feedback on my work so that I could improve and get better grades on future assignments.
Professor McDevitt is one of the best professors I have had. His lectures are interesting and very useful. He gives great feedback and is very clear with what he is looking for. This class helped me a lot with my writing. Make sure to participate each week in discussions as it is very crucial to this class.
For an online summer class I definitely learned a fair amount. The modules he uses for online classes are very informative and productive. Make sure you do your work because there is no extra credit to be had if you need to make up for something. Overall a great course and I would recommend Professor McDevitt to anyone!
Assignments are straight forward and easy to understand. Quizzes after every assignment were okay too, but an extra minute on the timer would have really helped my grade. Overall great teacher and class environment!
Professor McDevitt is a tough grader, but you can tell he is doing this for your own good. His curriculum and rubrics are completely different from what you would expect to see in a high school English class, and honestly, what he teaches will help you in the long run. I 100% recommend you take this class if you truly want to improve your writing.
Awesome professor! I can't stress how great his class was.
Tough grader, but only because he wants you to be a strong writer. Great professor overall!
I feel like I finished this class stronger in writing (: Would recommend if you're looking to improve your skills. No need to buy books because the readings are online!
Professor McDevitt was very straightforward in what the class was going in entail. I took College English over the summer. There were three essays, this is where most of your grade comes from. There were also two discussions per week(but the readings were interesting) He almost always got back to me within the same day. Great Professor!
Professor McDevitt had been an inspiring teacher. I had a chance to learn basic English compositions as well as some additional tools and tips to improve my essays. Your overall grades is largely determined by the three essays throughout the online class and you will be asked to reply to discussions and quizzes.
Professor McDevitt is an involved teacher that provides feedback, responses to discussions, and grades accordingly. The course is not difficult. Weekly discussions, quick 5 question quizzes and 3 essays. You must actively go through the modules weekly though, which he provides in-depth information and resources since no textbook is required.
This has been by far one of my favorite English classes I've taken. The professor was always responsive. I took the shortened class which means per week there was a lot of work. The work load was very manageable though if you stay ahead! There was also no mandatory textbook. Also gives you chances to improve essays! I highly suggest this professor!
Professor McDevitt was great at teaching us controversial topics and other college writing skills. I am taking him in hopes to pass with an A or B, so I may transfer. I'm hoping I may pass the class with that score and excel in my future endeavors. Cheers, thank you, professor.
Quality class that gets to the point of what you need to learn. The material covered in the class is interesting, the feedback is solid, and the workload is manageable.
Professor McDevitt changed my outlook on Eng 100. I dreaded having to take it as it was my weakest subject knowing the last time I took Eng was 8 yrs ago. He gives excellent feedback and homework and the essays are straight forward and to the point. I appreciate his teaching style and definitely recommend him. You won't be disappointed.
He was a overall really good professor that took his time to reply to his students during weekly discussions and gave excellent feedback on essays.
Professor McDevitt's class was a great experience for me. Professor McDevitt usually participates in discussions and always gives great feedback. He tells you exactly what is required from your work and includes helpful tips. So long as you participate in discussions and turn in your essays, there should be no reason to not pass this class.
I'm taking his online class in the winter, so it will be 5 times harder than normal, but I still got a great score so far, I think if you do what you got to do you will get an EZ A+.
This prof. is very good.
Professor McDevitt really helped me with my confidence in writing. I no longer dread writing essays, and he simplified the writing process to make it easy to understand. 60% of your grade is based on three essays, each worth 20%. If you read all the modules and do the discussions, you will do great on the essays.
Great professor! Really seems to care and takes an interest in his students. There were 3 assigned essays for the course (among other work like quizzes and a final exam) and each essay I got back had specific feedback within the essay itself. One of my favorite professors!
I took Professor McDevitt for English 100 during Intersession. We had a lot of hw (normal as it is an intersession class), but easy hw. 3 essays which are from the range of 4-6 pages long and a couple of discussions. He gives good feedback that will help you with your essays. Overall a great teacher!
Professor McDevitt was a pleasure to take for my first college English class. I was concerned that I would be graded subjectively based on my opinion. I was wrong. Professor McDevitt grades objectively and is primarily concerned with the quality of your composition, as it should be in an English class. Follow instructions and you will get an A.
The Prof, was also very caring and understanding of the hogwash back and forth military life causes. This really helped me out by allowing me to work ahead of the recommended class schedule. He was also very in touch, and I was able to have all questions answered throughout the course. He was also very fair in the way he graded assignments.
I would struggle coming up with a good thesis so I would direct message him and he provided a better understanding and was able to do better on my essays.
Throughout a whole series of events this semester that maintained participation difficult Mr. McDevitt was able to effectively communicate and help me navigate through the process. He was more than fair in his help and willingness to makeup grades and although I didn't partake as much as I should've I am grateful for the opportunity and his help.
I took Professor's 8 wk class that had 2 quizzes a wk, 10 discussions in total, 3 essays, and 1 final exam. He clearly states his rubric, and if you follow it, you will get an A. He replies to your email immediately and is always willing to help. He is the best English Professor ever, and I highly recommend him. TAKE HIM!
Awesome and down to earth kind of guy. He provides timely feedback, and I would take any other courses he teaches.
Overall I think he was a great Teacher and was fair in his grading, I am still waiting on my final grade but from what I have seen throughout this course is he is able to keep personal bias away and grade without bias or judgement on the topic. I hope I get the opportunity to take a more advanced class with him in the future.
Professor was interactive by responding to student's discussion posts with useful information. He responded very quickly to our emails about specific topics.
Professor McDevitt is very clear on what he wants from you in the course and is very helpful. The modules he has makes it so much easier to stay on top of your work. As long as you do all of the discussions and put in the work you will get an A. He is by far my favorite professor so far.
Since the start of course with the curriculum assigned, devoting time along with identifying a steady pace to keep up can be exigent in regards to being a part time student. Due to demanding tasks from on and off duty requirements with active duty U.S. Navy, its a little overwhelming but time management is key balancing home, work and family.
Professor McDevitt is a great teacher, the lessons are informative and he is very involved in the discussions. He always responds quickly to email and provides helpful advice. My writing skills improved and even though it was not always easy, I enjoyed the course. Would definitely recommend.
Great class. Professor McDevitt went above and beyond to make it interesting and informative. The video lectures were engaging and helped to break up the monotony of an online class. Highly recommend.
Professor McDevitt is very serious about English, as he should be! He is informative, clear, fair, and an overall great Professor. His course was easy to navigate while still putting me hard to work in the best way possible. Any questions I had were always answered in a timely manner. I highly recommend this Professor and course.
Professor, was very caring, reached out to see what was going because I had a late assignment, be warned the deadlines start to jumbles together so its vital that you try to stay a day ahead like his post will tell you. Especially if your taking more than one class. Overall, 8.9/10. Id take his class again if possible.
I was worried about taking an English class, dreading actually, but Professor McDevitt made this course interesting and exciting. I actually looked forward to writing an essay and doing homework. Simple lessons, clear rubics on grading, and great feedback. He stays engaged with you the whole time. Exactly what i wanted in a professor. EPIC CLASS!
I have taken 12 online classes and had basically succumbed to the idea that these classes were an endless procession of plug and chug busy work with little input from the Professor. If it were possible for me to only take classes under Professor McDevitt I wouldn't stop. I actually have regret that this class is my last one to my degree.
Professor McDevitt is one of the best professors that I ever had. He's really down to Earth. Don't be shy and reach out to him if you have any question or confusion about the materials. Lectures are straight-forward and easy to understand. His rubrics are clear and you know what you have to do to get a full mark. The best class where I do learn.
Great professor! One of the best I've had, fair grading, great curiculum.
Professor McDevitt is everything you would want in a Professor. He is easily accessible, especially for an online class, he gets back to you in about a day. He is very easy to email and ask questions to. He gives good feedback. And most importantly, he is NOT BIASED or doesn't show it. So feel free to write about whatever you want without judgment
Good Professor
The class is great. There is no textbook but you will read and do research for the essays. I thought he was funny in his replies (not sure if he was trying to be ) He gives great feedback, truly wants you to grow as a writer. I didn't like having to critique others work because I'm not the best writer but in the end, it helps you to become better.
Professor Mcdevitts class was a great experience & it definitely helped me become a stronger writer. His modules, grading, & expectations are straightforward - put in the work and you'll get an A. If you struggle with writing, he offers revision opportunities and very helpful feedback. If you enjoy English, his class will be very rewarding!
I took the 8 week class and it was easy. as long as you read the lessons and apply them to your writing you'll get a good grade. There were 3 essays. one 4pg, one 5pg, and one 6pg and a 20 question final along w 2 5 question quizzes a week. honestly suuuuper easy class if you're good at writing.
Professor McDevitt, was one of my favorite professors. He cares for his students success and does anything in his power to help them succeed. He grades quickly, and always gives good feedback. When taking his course, even if it is online, be prepared for lots of discussion, as he likes to keep everyone engaged.
Devitt's teaching style is very to the book. Considering it's English, he has to be. As long as you write something, right or wrong, he will guide you to complete your paper or assignments. You may feel rushed; the assignments are in pieces and require an outline, initial body paragraphs, and multiple rough drafts, and the final completed essay.
By far best Prof. Ive had these past 2 years. He is very attentive, organized, and easily accessible outside class. His rubric is easy to follow, and his feedback is very thorough, making this whole online thing a lot better. Super awesome guy. He even took the time to give me tips on teaching English in Japan when I asked, which I appreciate. :)
Highly recommended.
Respectful and understanding!
Professor McDevitt teaches you the basics of college level writing. Youll get the most out of his class by applying yourself. Find your weaknesses, research your weaknesses, then apply it and ask for feedback. Follow the directions closely, do not make any stupid mistakes. Very easy class if you pay attention to details.
This Professor is very political and left leaning. Do not write anything from a conservative view point. He expects you to be a writing professional although it is an English 100 course. Most topics are about politics and if he does not like your content your grades will reflect that.
My ENG100 class was 8 weeks long which made it very classwork heavy. Upfront from the beginning stating class will be hard and you will need to treat it like a job. Provided quick responses to emails and feedback on discussions. Willing to work with you if you are military. Very fair and makes it easy to understand.
Wonderful instructor and easy to get a hold of for a beginner writing course. You WILL write a lot. Make sure you can log into class the first day because there will be a paper due.
Honestly the best english professor I've ever met. I took 8 weeks class so obviously it was going faster but it was super easy to follow. He has a clear grading criteria and cares his students a lot. You can get an easy A if you pay attention to the weekly lecture!
Professor McDevitt is a great English teacher! Participation definitely matters as you need to reply to class discussions. Missing a discussion is equivalent to skipping class. I enjoyed the do-it-yourself approach as we are able to work ahead rather than wait for video conferences.
Professor McDevitt gave great feedback on every essay and discussion, and really showed his intent to make sure we understand each lesson.
Professor McDevitt was awesome, he gave great advice to help with our writing, and broke up the writing process into multiple discussions so we slowly developed our paper with his feedback and the help of fellow students.
If you get the chance of getting this professor please take him! His lectures were very informative and easy to understand. There were two major essays, two mini-essay, and a final ( I took an online summer class ). Most of you grade will rely on discussions posts/replies so don't miss out on any! McDevitt has prepared me in the best possible way.
Prof. David is a very good instructor. Regardless how dry the content is, he was always able to find a way to teach. As students, those lessons and its examples are very easy to digest. You know what youre working on. Youll get an easy A as long as you completed your assignment and follow the advice he provided.
Prof was good and offered clear and helpful feedback. The course forced you to go through the writing process steps, which was beneficial. There were easy quizzes and a final based on the written lectures, discussions that helped you with the content and developing your writing/essays, 2 mini-essays, a major essay, and a 6+ page research paper.
Professor McDevitt is one of the best professors I have had the privilege to have as in instructor. He formats his class and lectures to where they are easy to understand and the work you start with in week 1 has an impact on your work in the last week as well. I highly recommend Professor McDevitt!
The professor teaches a tough course in just eight weeks. This is the teacher to use! He gives clear and justified grading scales . His class is not easy by any means, but at the end you gain so much knowledge. Be ready for controversial topics, lots of reading, and MLA. Hes always responsive , and will always get back to you if you message
Professor McDevitt is here to teach you how to write a flawless professional paper, not to be your buddy. He is personable and kind, but this is not an easy A class and he is not here to cut you slack the rest of the world isn't going to cut you. He is a great, professional teacher who wants you to actually learn.
I took Professor McDevitt for an 8 week online English 100 course. This 8-week course was extremely manageable and he did not give too much work to handle. Professor McDevitt's feedback was always positive. If you put in the work and stay on top of your assignments, you should be able to get an A.
Professor McDevitt was an all-around good teacher. His teaching methods were easy to understand and he gave great feedback.
Professor David McDevitt was a great teacher to have during this course. Very helpful with giving information to assist and help students understand the work that is given. I would recommend him as a professor to choose for online freshman composition to other students.
Understands your situations and will work with no matter what.
The professor enthusiastically supports, the lesson is not too fast, focuses on understanding each part before moving on to the next part. If you have any questions, you can email the professor. He will simplify and even give very real examples to help you understand.
This professor is really great. The assignments all build on top of each other making this class easy to follow. I highly recommend this professor
If possible I'd encourage maybe a weekly zoom call or something to ensure everyone knows the information.
Takes complex material and makes it accessible to the layman. Learning how to argue and apply rhetoric in a coherent way was quite satisfying. This course was useful in enabling confidence in my research techniques and applying solutions to prevent plagiarism. My ability to cite sources in MLA is now complete. Prof McD is patient and caring! A+++
Time management is of the upmost importance! As long as you follow content requirements and actually do the module reading you'll be fine. Take notes as you read modules.
He is a great professor. I would definitely recommend him. Hes fair and wants you to succeed. Everything is straightforward. There are no trick questions on quizzes or tests.
Great professor. He gives good feedback and hes a very fair grader. He doesnt try to trick you on tests and quizzes.
This guys sucks. He has an ego and seems like hes on a power trip. Not understanding about your outside life whatsoever, lots of reading, generally unreasonable.
He treats his classes like if they were a daily job. So, if you do have a job outside of college than get ready to spend long nights doing his essays with strict criteria. Definitely seems like he is on an ego trip and makes it seem like he thinks everyone is lazy. When really people have jobs and family to take care of on top of doing school.
Class is like any other class, you get wht you put into it. Replies within 1 Business day, and is willing to help you become better writer. Would definitely recommend. Class wasnt hard, but it wasnt easy.
Honestly I was not good at English or even sentence structure. Prof changed that, very passionate about English and will change your writing if you listen and follow what he teaches. Enjoyed online class Able to use turn it in to check for plagiarism Multiple times if needed just ask
Great Class. professor gives great feedback to everyone in class.
His ego and the lack of empathy that he displayed were extremely disturbing. If you have kids or full-time jobs, you are gonna be working on essays and assignments for the majority of your free time. If you do take this class, do not take others in conjunction with this one because you will need to be engaged fully to effectively pass this class.
Professor McDevitt can seem pretty intimidating in his expectations of his students but you soon realize that he doesn't expect any more from you than to utilize the tools he provides in class. He offers great feedback and his presence is consistent. You will get out of the class exactly what you put in. Would love to take another class with him!
Professor McDevitt was great. He takes time to write out exactly what you need to succeed and takes the time to coach his students. If you want to become a stronger writer take his class.
He is very knowledgeable and competent English teacher. He makes sure we learn.
The class was easy to follow along. The instructions at the beginning may seem overwhelming at first but this is one of my favorite classes I've taken. As long as you follow along and take it seriously it's really easy to get an A as he's a fair grader and very understanding as long as you communicate with him on issues you run into.
This class was easy to follow and grading criteria was very clear. As long as you meet all expectations on assignments it is easy to get an A.
I had a great experience with Professor McDevitt. He always gave positive and useful feedback, and he was clear with his instructions and understanding. I would definitely recommend him!
Best professor I've had so far in my two years of college, he's very clear with what he expects from his students and he is very good when it comes to having questions or contacting him. Definitely recommend taking his class.
I took Prof. McDevitt's online ENG100 class and would take another of his classes if I had the chance. The assignments were straight forward and he gave plenty of time to complete them. His essay assignments were done in steps and he gave feedback and chances for peer feedback along the way.
Professor McDevitt has been by far the best Professor I have had since starting college. He pushes you and encourages you to do your best and to keep writing. If you don't understand something, a quick email and he is back to you within the day.
I was not very confident in college writing before taking this class, and I am grateful that Prof. McDevitt gave good feedback on papers. It does have a lot of homework, but I think it was super fun to take his class in the summer.
Great Professor for ENGL102! He provides clear instructions. No HW is required, no textbook. I basically read available materials and reply on the discussion board which is very related and prepares you for the essay. Some weeks have no discussion, just reading. Follow rubic, ask him for essay review. Just do simple work & get A.
I'm taking his online ENGLISH 102 class, super heavy class to be honest. 8 week classes. 4 essays in total, minimum of 4-5 pages per essay. And INCLUDE mini paper which he said, but minimum 2 pages, what's the mini paper even is that. mini paper always came with an essay. honestly super heavy.
This professor will stress you. I have never had a professor who is this meticulous in a 100-level course. The grading criteria are by far the worst I have come by. If you get a 50% in any assignment your grade will drop a letter with no way of improving it. Every assignment is no less than 2 written pages long. No essay feedback for improvement.
Professor McDevitt has high expectations but provides great feedback. Take advantage of the tools he offers, and you'll get out what you put in. unstuck study was super helpful for essay prep.
