Enjoyed the class, 2 presentations and 2 papers weren't bad, but the mid-term and final were quite difficult, and he tells you that up front. Got a 'B' on both the exams despite doing very well on the rest of the material, dropping me into A- territory. He's a great professor, engaging lectures, very likable, but a tough grader.
Never thought I'd say this, but I actually enjoyed a management course. This online course was so well organized, and the material was often very interesting. He clearly presents the material in a way that it's useful to you even if you never want to be a manager- you learn a lot about how businesses operate. Great Prof, cool guy.
Took the class online. Just reading the chapters and doing the homework which was easy but time consuming. The readings prepare you for the tests pretty well but I found some questions to be kind of abstract. Overall, easy class and nice guy
I didn't read and just looked up the answers via the glossary for the exams -I don't recommend this. Take the time to read the chapters. Watch the videos; there's test questions from there. The quiz questions you can look up on Google. Learn Smart sucks to do but it helps.
I like classes with minimal work. 1 learnsmart assignment due every week. Easy quiz every other week. Exams are ok but you can use your computer and look up answers. Make sure to watch the videos before the exam. Overall, the course is easy and you should take it.
He is the best professor i've ever had in my life!!!He made his lectures funny and he is so good. 2 online exams, open book open notes. 1 group debate and 1 group presentation and that's all. I strongly recommend this professor!
Lectures were not too long, but definitely don't get behind. Weekly learnsmart 100 question assignments (not hard but takes time). Exams are pretty easy if you prepare, open note, open book. He includes questions from the lectures though so make sure you watch them. Quizzes about every couple of weeks. Not difficult either if you have worked.
He is a very kind professor and I highly recommend him to anyone! Def buy the ebook with the learnsmart (rather than hardcopy) and type out weekly lectures and do the learnsmart assignments each week. There are occasional quizzes and the exams are pretty easy as well. Open booknote (even with ebook). One of my favorite professors!
Professor McKinnon is an awesome professor, he really knows his stuff. He expects lots of participation in class. Only 1 debate, 1 group projectpaper, 1 midterm, 2 case studies, and a final! Seems like an easy A but you have to do really well on the case studies to get a good grade because those are worth the most points! Overall, a great class!
This was among my favorite classes despite being a horribly boring subject. McKinnon is a very entertaining instructor and he knows his stuff. assignments: Two tests, both online. 2 individual papers. 1 group paper. 2 group presentations. participation is big in the class, but pay attention and occasionally raise your hand and you'll do fine.
This class was actually pretty tough despite being open-book. You really had to put your critical listening skills to the test. Many of the exam questions are from the lectures. Make sure to pay attention to all book references he talks about. He won't have these in the power points. Make sure to watch and take notes on all the extra videos.
Learn Smart are easy points. Quizzes arent bad if you use the book. get the e-book. Tests use the lock down browser and record you but he says you can have another computer available to use the book during the test. The assessments at the begging are easy points. Watch the video and lectures and take notes. some test questions do come from those
Class with mainly well-known information, so the exams have obscure questions about single sentences in the textbook. However, it is open-book/note. The quizzes/exams aren't hard, but the time constraints make it difficult. Definitely take McKinnon - he's such a kind person!! I enjoyed having him as a prof. HW takes a LONG time to copy notes!
He makes a very easy class difficult by utilizing time constraints on the exams. There's also a lockdown browser that you must use. An A+ would've been achieved if I'd known 95% of the answers were on quizlet. Found that out on test 2. Can't believe I wasted so much time studying for this class. Must view lecture vids as he provides answers there.
The material isn't that difficult but the exams are a bit tricky because of the time constraints; 60 minutes to do 50 questions. They're open note/book and you can use the e-book, but you should watch the videos as most of the answers are in there and skim the book so you know where to find things you don't know. Homework and quizzes are easy point
Professor McKinnon is a great professor. He is very clear and concise, and lays out exactly what is expected of you. The class itself is interesting, but the material all seems to sound the same after a while. The tests are not hard, but it is very important to take good notes when doing the homework and lectures! Time consuming, but fair class.
I took this course as a C Session, online course. To receive an A I would suggest watching the online lectures and read the textbook. Learn-Smart assignments were easy but long. Exams seemed tough at times because it asks rather specific questions from the textbook.
Be prepared to READ the textbook, read every detail and take very detailed notes. Tests are timed, 60 minutes for 50 questions so you can't look much up. 3 times quizzes, 20 questions in 20 minutes. Homework assignments are 40-70 questions long and there are 16 of them. WATCH EVERY LECTURE AND READ THE BOOK TO GET AN A!!!
WARNING!! Tests were not at all like the homework. After completing online HW assignments to perfection I felt prepared for each exam, but the questions asked were incredibly specific and failed to cover the material well. A lot of times I had to remember quotes of various people... Not worth the luxury of taking this online. Avoid this class.
Make sure to watch ALL of the lecture videos if taking online, including the example videos. Pay specific attention to people he references they will be on the test. Don't study the learn smarts you are assigned they were always way harder than the actual test. Tests and Quizzes are all open note and online but not a lot of time is given.
3 tests and 3 homeworks make up your grade. make sure to do the learnsmarts and the online lectures. exams usually 70% learnsmarts, 30% online lectures
took online, chapters are really long & so are the learnsmart be prepared to spend at least 2-3hours for each chapter u do have to watch those example videos because there are questions. As for his lectures you dont have to watch those download the pdfs for each lecture look up pdf merge on google and combine them into one then just find questions.
One online homework assignment a week, four quizzes and three exams. Drops lowest quiz score. This class was actually very useful and McKinnon was a great teacher. The online lectures are about 30 minutes a week, but make sure you take notes.
I'm not a fan of management as a field of study, and McKinnon did nothing to convert me. It was dry, slow, long, and fairly impractical. Lots of theory if that interests you, but very little narrative about how to actually manage. Take the half hour to do each homework and make sure you know how to search the E-book for the test and you'll be fine.
Easy A! you can easily find the quiz and exam's answer online. Two team cases and one personal reflection paper, David is absolutely NOT a tough grader, he gives great feedback.
Professor McKinnon is one of the best lecturers at ASU. He is easy to listen to and the topics are interesting and applicable. Two team papers that shouldn't take more than one day each to complete if everyone does their job. The lectures count towards your final grade. Exams are of average difficulty. Recommended for serious business students.
He's a great Professor. By far one of my favorite professors at ASU. Although his tests are a bit easy, he uses time constraints which make it difficult. His lectures have so much substance and are really fun to learn. He replies fast and posts announcements regularly. He's a wonderful Professor. Take him and you won't have any regrets!
Really straightforward online class. Homework is easy from the McGraw Connect program but takes about an hour each time. However the hour isn't wasted as doing homework is effective for studying. Exams are easy (and open book, so learn how to search the e-book) but have an annoying constraint in that you cannot review previously answered questions.
Good professor. Probably the most interactive and friendly I've seen for an online class. MGT 300 online was basically just memorizing definitions for the test. Class was fairly test heavy.
This class was an easy A. Easy homeworks online. For the exams, you could have another device to use to look up notes and I was able to get an A in the class. Make sure to watch the videos too for the exams and skim over the PowerPoint slides just in case
Very easy class. 3 tests (no cumulative exam) which are all open note with 50 questions and an hour time limit. About 70% of questions come from the book and 30% come from his video lectures. During tests you're allowed to use another device to look at the ebook so if you watch his lectures and are able to search the book quickly you will get an A.
MGT 300 with Professor Mckinnon is very easy. You'll have to complete one homework assignment a week as well as a few quizzes throughout the semester. All of the exams are open-notes and I found many of the answers to the questions online. Extremely easy A!
Pretty easy online class! I got an A (96%). Wish it was A+/- grading for GPA boost. Make sure to complete all the LearnSmart assignments and exams (which are open-note / open-book) I recommend having all the PowerPoints open in another computer. The tests are timed so make sure you are ready. No writing assignments. Overall a very easy A!
Very easy class taken online, you can have an extra laptop while using RP-NOW to navigate the textbook. 2-3 HW per week that are time consuming, and a quiz or exam every other week. Very easy A.
Super easy class, the online textbook is FREE (yay!) and actually very interesting! Every week you will have 1 tiny chapter to read, a lecture, and a learn smart homework (easy), and/or a quiz. The exams are open book and note but monitored by RPnow and timed.
Liked the class but would have been better in person.
Class is easy, but easy to get behind if you don't use his resources. - Blackboard is well set up. Tests are mostly textbook questions (easy) but there are some questions from his lectures. Tests are actually fairly hard with a short amount of time allowed, so please take advantage of the second laptop he allows you to have. Definitely recommend.
Very easy class, if you do the reading and learn smart homework's you'll be fine. The tests are RPNow, but you can use another computer for notes, as all tests are open book and open note
Make sure to take notes for the learnsmart quizzes, as I learned that the hard way for the first quiz. Easy A, just save all of his lectures cause they can be used for his exams. Make sure to get another device (laptop) to use, as you can easily search things up! If you have the time over the summer, definitely recommend taking it. Easy A!
I took the online class, and it was helpful having the option to work ahead. The material is straightforward, and if you put in the time and effort, you should get an easy A. I personally liked his lectures because they were so straightforward, but they can be somewhat dry and boring at times.
This class was incredibly easy. All ran by learnsmart modules which are annoying but easy points. Class is fairly test heavy with 3 test that add up to 300 out of the total 450 points. David is a great guy and really wants his students to succeed. Super easy online class so I definitely recommend taking it. Spent a total of about 20-25 hours on all
Very fair class, with exams open-note, open-book. Be sure to watch the online lectures and jot notes of anecdotes given related to each topic, as these make up 20% of each exam. LearnSmart modules are completion-based and you can work ahead on homework (but not exams).
My mind is blown over the fact that this is an online class, and yet professor McKinnon still seems to care about his students more than a lot of classes with in-person professors! Comes across as a really genuine guy, and I actually enjoyed the online lectures.
Great class, and very easy. Had to put in very little effort in this class and got an A. Keep up with the deadlines for homework assignments and the exams are open notes.
Usually two chapters per week with probably 4-6 lectures. Sounds like a lot but you can speed them up and its useful information. Make sure you complete the learnsmart assignments every week since they're easy points. Allowed to use phone and textbook on exams. Easy online class that is actually informative.
Good professor. It wasn't a tough class and I enjoy learning about management. Everything was mostly done through the online text book. The only thing I wish he did was offer extra credit.
Easy yet informative. The lectures can be a little bit dry but you have to listen to them in order to answer some of the exam questions. The exams aren't bad as you are allowed to use your notes, book, and a second device. Learnsmart activities are easy points. Professor McKinnon seems like a nice guy and wants his students to succeed.
Waste of time. Smartbooks are way too long and repeat the same questions over and over. Do not take this class along with other courses with heavy workload. This class' content is very easy but it's ridiculous how the professor tries to make up for it with homework. No extra credit is also a con. quizes are 20 questions for 20 min, again ridiculous
I agree with everyone who said this class is a waste of time. The learnsmart homework activities are easy, but they take hours. He said it goes faster if you get most of the questions right, but it really doesn't. I think the class is not hard, but it is unnecessarily time-consuming.
Professor McKinnon is phenomenal!
Not a class you're likely to get something out of it, mostly learnsmarts that take forever and assignments are due at 11pm. The exams are open book thru RPnow but a good portion is from lecture videos which are boring, overall a mediocre class
The smart book assignments take hours. There's at least one due every week. Quizzes are 20 minutes for 20 questions each. I feel that there should be more of a time buffer. The test are open notes. You can find most of the answers online, but once you answer a question you can't go back. The class is more stressful than it needs to be.
Class is not hard, but it could be a whole lot better. Don't say smart book questions are only 65 questions when they turn into 200 questions because you have to answer the same question 3 times to count as 1 point!?? And placing this sort of assignment over spring break, get outta here. Also 20 minutes to answer 20 questions quizzes, ridiculous!!
One of the dullest classes I've ever taken. Homework consists of weekly "smartbook" assignments, which are just a ton of random textbook questions being repeated over an over. Takes hours to complete. Exams are taken using RPnow which feels extremely invasive, and there is no opportunity for extra credit. He makes everything difficult/tedious.
This lives in a world with his head so far up his behind. He thinks students have the time do learn 65 concepts for each chapter, answering 3 questions for each concept. 5-6 chapters an exam.... you do the math. Screw this dude I have more important classes to focus on.
The learnbook assignments are all over 100 questions each. Two to three assignments per week means 6 plus hours just answering the same questions over and over. They are very easy but way too time consuming. Exams are easy and open note. Easy A if you put in the time but I wish I could use some of this time on my harder classes.
This class has the most horrific homework set up. assignments take 3 hours to learn what is easily understood in 30 minutes. Dumb professor, dumb class
Lectures were interesting and connected to real examples. Tests had ample time to complete. Textbook is necessary for the tests. Wish I had a printer in quarantine so I didn't have to write notes. Worst part of class was the smartbook assignments. They are very dull and take way too long to complete. At some point I just stopped caring and guessed.
This class is not hard at all the only issue is how long the Smart-book assignments take. They are unnecessarily long and do not even help at all with that. I agree there needs to be a better way to do HW without repeating so many questions. Class is good I just needed it for credit just wished the assignments weren't so annoying.
I don't know if it's the professor or the material, but the lectures are so dry. Exams are open note and book though RPNow, but you can not skip questions throughout the Exam. LearnSmarts do take forever for so little points. This class is a lot of work, but it's not difficult. It would be the best to take this class with someone else if possible.
Currently taking this class over summer. Only problems are: The quizzes and tests are timed to basically a min a question-it really flusters me because I can't think through the problem and you can't go back to it. Also the professor should not allow students to utilize hallway discussions for current events outside of class. It insensitive & rude
10/10 easy MGT class! The homework assignments take a long time but no reason you shouldn't get 100% Exams are lockdown browser but you can use a second device during exam as well as notes and textbook. (a lot of the test answers are online) Not a lot of time to look up answers because 50 Q's in 60 min!
Dr. McKinnon's online lectures can be long, but contain such crucial information. For MGT411 online, you are graded based on guided lectures (easy points), 2 short papers, a final reflection, and 3 big exams. The exams (at least to me) became more fluid and easier as the class went on. He grades very fairly and provides great feedback. Take him.
Great prof & easy class! 4 easy quizzes. Each week there is a smartbook assignment (takes less than an hour), and he releases all of them so you can work ahead if you want. 3 Exams on a lockdown browser but allows a second laptop/device. Video lectures that are informational but don't really need to watch to get good exam grade. 10/10 recommend
Took the all-online version and it wasn't too difficult.
Dr. McKinnon's lectures are clear. I took it online, but he seems nice. You'll need to read the textbook to get ready for the tests.
If you take notes from the text and lectures, you'll do really well on the exams and you'll get an easy A. It's moderately time-consuming, so don't procrastinate. It's a really good class though, I definitely recommend it.
I don't know what everyone's talking about with "so much homework." It takes literally maybe 30 minutes a week, tops? Just crank it out and work ahead. Super easy class, exams, and quizzes can be difficult, but exams are open book so it's really not that hard if you study a little first. Just do your part as a student and you'll get an A, easy.
Highly recommend. Lectures are super easy to watch and convey the information in a short and sweet manner. Watch the lectures FIRST then do the smartbooks. Test questions can be misleading and there were always a handfull of questions on each test that I felt like came out of nowhere. Tests are open note and book.
You teach yourself. Mckinnon is short tempered and abrasive. Seems uninterested in actually helping students learn the material. If youre looking to take a class where the professor is completely hands off, this is it.
Overall class wasn't too difficult. If you do the Smartbook assignments and quizzes, you'll practically pass the class. Each test has a couple questions from his online lectures, but it's only about 4 out of 50. I didn't watch a single lecture video since it was mostly just a repeat of the Smartbook assignments and managed to get an A.
I really enjoyed Professor McKinnon's class. Learned a lot and the class structure was very straightforward. He is also very sweet and responsive to students. All tests and quizzes are open-book and open-note and he allows you to have an extra computer for the e-book. Overall, super manageable class if you just follow the requirements .
I was shocked to find MGT to be my hardest class this semester. His tests are open book, BUT the questions come across as vague, uses different wording than what you would find in the book and homework, and they range from relevant/main ideas to irrelevant facts like author's names of a book he talked about for maybe 60 seconds in his lectures.
Final's week was hell. ASU cut a week off of the semester and instead of working with his student's, especially with everything going on, he still expected us to finish the last 3 chapters of the textbook DURING FINALS WEEK, on top of studying for a final that covered 6 chapters. He did not seem to care at all about his students
I liked this class! It was easy and did not take much time. Exams are open book/note which are helpful. He posts great lectures that are easy to go through and take notes for the exam. Just do the work and you will pass. Responds to emails quick and is very caring. I would definitely recommend taking him.
Online homework using McGraw Hill every week, only graded on completion. Quizzes are on quizlet and exams are open book (digital book so it's searchable for terms). Overall grading is very clear in the syllabus at the beginning of the class and the only points possible to miss are from the online lecture videos if you don't watch before the exams
Great professor! Definitely watch the lecture videos and take notes. Loved that we could use a second device on the exams. Exams were pretty easy if you watched the videos.
The class is very easy. It's mostly smartbook chapter assignments and a few major non-cumulative exams. No final exam, just a regular exam in its place. All exams and quizzes are open notes/book. Be sure to watch the lectures! He says 30% comes from the lectures and he means it. I didn't get to know him too well personally, but he responds to email
For having such interesting topic, this class is all about semantics. The whole class is about to learn key words that belong to different concepts. I find it absolutely worthless, when so little time actually is spend to learn about different types of management. Typical recipe memorizing of useless information.
Some of the questions on the exams are a bit ridiculous and absolutely pointless. I really didn't learn much in this class. The professor isn't involved at all other than his once a week emails. I wish I had taken this course with a different professor. I probably would have learned a lot more and actually enjoyed it.
The questions on the exams are so difficult for no reason. I have a 4.0 and this is now my first B class (senior). I had to take the syllabus quiz like 5 times because the answers weren't even in the syllabus. Very time consuming class. One big vocabulary lesson. I was double learning this info from EDP310 this semester.
He is a great professor and you can tell he really loves what he does and he cares. Everything was well organized and although there was a lot of reading the lectures tied it all very well together. Make sure you do watch the video lectures, they are REALLY easy to follow. If you put in the work, and A should be no problem.
Useful class and was easy A. Just don't slack off too much and do the weekly hw and monthly quizzes and you will be fine. Open note quizzes and exams
Test will be 30% material from lecture and 70% from textbook. And he won't cover everything from the textbook. He waste a lot of time on his lecture talking about nonsensical topics. Honestly, my greatest joy was when he posted another professor lecture that actually cover more material than he is (icourse) His test was open book so
Mckinnon is so sweet and you can tell he loves what he does and cares. His lectures are short and sweet which helped my short attention span. He really relates this class to the real-world and is also always ready to answer questions and help with anything you need
MGT 300 summer A online. Pretty easy class, the homework is completion grade, you just answer questions until you get enough right. The tests are a good chunk of your grade so prepare and plan accordingly, its pretty much straight from the homework and quizzes.
Assignments and lecture videos take a long time but if you do them, you'll get an A. Exams allow a second device for notes and the textbook.
Professor McKinnon was an absolute amazing teacher. His lecture slides I find can be sometimes long so I would break them up, but his voice is very soothing to listen to. Once a week you have HW which should take usually 30min. Demonstrated very useful information in his Management course and test questions are very common sense based.
Not a big fan of McKinnon. The exams are literally worth 80% of our grade so homework is basically worthless. And he gives us only 60 minutes for 50 questions. Most of the things weren't even covered on the homework or lecture. Good thing they were open note/book otherwise I wouldve been screwed. Also a lot of the questions are semantics on exams.
Second tab/device allowed for online textbook and/or typed notes during exams. Pretty straightforward. When watching lecture videos, pay attention to things that aren't mentioned in textbook (no matter how small). Take detailed, easily-searched notes on the chapters and lectures. 50 questions in 60 minutes for exams. Non-cumulative. 10/10 recommend
Straightforward class. Only one assignment per week on McGraw Hill that takes about an hour tops with some lectures to look at too. Tests were non-cumulative and open note/book so that was nice. One complaint I have is that there are too many questions with the time alloted (50 questions in 60 min). Overall a good choice for an easy A
This class was an easy A+ because it is open book/notes/web. You can use a second device. I made a little mistake and that's why I got a B+. There is so much to memorize and so little time to take exams. If you're a slow reader or not a native speaker, you're screwed. You won't have enough time to read the questions let alone the answer choices.
Def not taking a class w this professor again. 300/500 of the grade is worth on exams w 60 min to complete 50 questions. 30% of the exam grade is worth on his lectures and each chapter he assigns 3-4 lectures, some being 25 minutes long. Thankfully its openbook but not worth it, not even my core classes give this much workload.
Class structure is super straightforward. 1-2 HW's and quizzes every week in McGraw-Hill that usually take an hour or so to complete. Exams are monitored, but open-note with the textbook available online which is the key to getting a good score on the exams. Professor regularly communicates with the class via Canvas announcements which is helpful.
Only 3 exams in the class so heavy part of the grade is focused on that. They are at least open book/open note! Easy to get everything out of the way early if wanted or even day of since its just smartbook.
Very easy class as long as you keep up with the homework. Exams are completely open book, including e-book and all Canvas materials. Professor keeps in touch weekly, and is just a nice guy overall. Highly recommend this professor for this class.
Professor McKinnon is a nice gentleman. The homework assignments are not difficult, there is just a lot of homework that you have to stay on top of. Make sure to do the reading, this class revolves around the McGraw Hill program. Tests are proctored by honorlock.
Homework isn't hard. Everything is in the McGraw Hill program with tests on Canvas using Honorlock. Open notes/open book for all tests and quizzes which is really nice! Professor sends out a message each week and is really kind.
Easy-ish class. 3 exams are worth most of your grade, and you have 60 minutes to complete 50 questions. The good thing is that it is all open book open note (including google docs). It's a lot of information to take in, but with the open materials it makes it much easier
My overall experience in MGT 300 with David McKinnon was good. There is a lot of homework, and the tests are really important. Overall, if you are willing to put in the hard work to get a good grade, you will.
Easy class. Use the homework to study. Prof uses Mcgraw Hill and it's cool to refer to the textbook during the homework. Homework assignments are participation points. Easy A. Allows open note exams.
