I wish I had a history teacher like him in high school.He is really interested in you learning history.He seems to feel that it is impotant for all americans to know about their country. I learned a lot. He is very approachable and will work with you . He does expect you to do the work and take the responsibility for your actions. He was graet.

I absolutely hate history, but Prof McGlaughlin made it very interesting.at times the material was a bit boring, but if you ever had questions he would explain it until u understand. His class is a writing intensive course, but he doesnt even grade the 6 papers u must turn in. He gives you 2 pts/paper then adds all ur points onto your final grade!

Great teacher! MUST attend class, and MUST study on your own time (not something that occurs often at edison, i know!) He is tough but He knows the subject! do your work and you will do fine! Can't wait to take him out at FGCU

You have to make sure you study in his class and TAKE GOOD NOTES!!! This is not an easy class at all, but he defiantly helps you out when you need it and as much as you need it. He is fair in grading. he will also keep you up to date on politics today, which i was not interested in but i now am :)I loved this class and will miss it!!

He expects you to attend class and will take points off your final grade if you are late. Not a class to take if you are a shy person. He randomly calls on students to answer critical thinking questions.

This is NOT an easy class. However, he knows what he's talking about and explains it in a clear manner. He does go pretty quickly, but will repeat if needed. He lectures the whole class, and moves pretty fast. He will repeat if you ask though. You need to read the chapters for the test and he will tell you that constantly. His tests are pretty easy. Just make sure to study and pay attention in class. He gives random quizzes on lectures at the beginning of class on the last 2 classes.

He is very smart and knows his stuff, and he expects his students to know the material as well. DO NOT take a course with this guy unless you are willing to read and study, or it will reflect in your grades! His grading system is strange, but is geared in favor of the student. Attend class, take notes and don't talk during class, & you'll do fine.

Good proffessor, took two of his classes. He knows what he's talking about. ALOT of reading of the textbook. Grading system is based on points and pop-quizes. Tests aren't easy, but you never test on the same subject twice.

Awesome teacher!! gives plenty of extra credit and its almost impossible to fail the class. gives you 40% of the test a week before. dont take if your shy...he calls on everyone and it can be embarrasing

Great teacher, I was nervous after reading some of the comments, but was surprised! He only calls on ppl who aren't paying attention, ex. a girl on fb in the back of class. His lectures are more like stories so it's easy to follow, is very flexible. The book sucks, so I just read the ch. outlines online and never got below a B on tests. Take Him!!!

I didn't do well for the first half of the semester and missed a lot of classes. I tryed hard for the second half and he recognized my effort and gave me an A I didn't really deserve. He may seem a little old fashioned, but hes interesting and he cares about his students.

I had him both semesters of U.S. History. I didn't care for him at first, but once I got used to his format, it was easy! He says his lectures are necessary, but really, you can read the book and be fine. Exams are mult choice and essays on terms. You HAVE to study! I recommend taking him once a week. Then you're fine reading/studying once a month!

Super strict. Says he's willing to help but he really isn't. Class is soo boring. Test are really hard even with studying. I would not recommand him.

Definitely teaches American History for Republicans. Kind of a bizarre take on history, and a worse take on current events. It's obvious that his tests are made by the publisher of the book (his lectures tend to meander into personal interests and feelings) and the text, regretfully, comes in handy. (Don't waste your money on the new edition.)

Had him for AmH2010 and one of the best professors at Edison! At first I was like o.O, but you really get used to him. Grading is extremely fair, get those extra points, they help a lot!! He may be very strict at first but he's very approachable and is really concerned with helping you pass the class. And for everyone who says he's mean and/or strict, either you didn't put effort in or you really ticked him off. He's like a best friend and is really fair! TAKE HIM! But you have to put in effort!

Good teacher, and great story teller. If you are a brat that likes to play games on your phone in class then you wont like him though.

If you want an easy "A", do NOT take this class. His tests are really difficult and you absolutely MUST read the textbook if you want to succeed. He does offer a lot of extra credit assignments such as page and a half essays, or today's news articles so you definitely should do them. I am an all A student and I am definitely struggling. :/

READ READ READ AND YOU'LL BE FINE. The tests are tricky, but if you read before the lecture you'll be alright. He gives a lot of time to know your terms before a test and offers a lot of extra credit work..(easy). If you like history and politics,and are open minded, I DEFINITELY recommend this class for you!

Professor McLaughlin is awesome! His lectures are long, but full of information, take notes because his quizzes are on the content of his lectures. You HAVE to read your textbook, if you don't you wont pass his tests. He gives you 40 points of your test ahead of time and he works with you if you need any help. He offers LOTS of extra credit.

He is a great lecturer -- I learned a ton from him. He doesn't use any visuals, which is a little ominous at first, but as long as you pay close attention and take detailed notes, he's fine. He doesn't stay on the same topic long unless you ask for clarification, so pay attention. Tons of extra credit (up to +15% on final grade), so an easy A.

The class is so easy! He gives so many extra credit points to help you pass the class. You must attend class and you must not speak when he's speaking. His lectures are quite boring but try to pay attention because they will help on the test. Whatever you do, please read the textbook! I'm telling you, you will not pass those tests without the book.

Easily one of my favorite professors here. He knows what he's talking about, and is very enthusiastic. The textbook is not required, per se, but you need it to study from. Tests are very tough (multiple choice and defining terms), but he has tons of extra credit points that each give you +1% at the end -- I got a whole letter grade boost.

Excellent professor.

Read the textbook at home and go to class. He gives a lecture about what you have read. He gives you vocab words that you need to know for the test. If you do not go to his class points will be taken off grade. Test are from the book and his lectures. On Fridays he does 1 point extra credit. You have to read an article in front of the class.

If your a decent American and know your heritage and history you can show up and with little effort pass, if not you will learn.

I liked the class, he forces you to learn history which is good. I learned a lot of valuable info about the history of this country. His tests are hard but if you do the terms and the extra credit you will most likely get an A or a B. Lectures are kind of boring but he sometimes calls on people to answers questions which is pretty funny.

He is the greatest professor I have ever taken. I took him twice for my hs credit because I am Dual Enrolled, and he is just awesome. He gives a lot of extra credit, so take it as it comes. He give you 3 strikes for missed classes, then he takes points. Show up, take notes, do the terms and you're fine. He loves to have in class discussions.

Very fair professor. His lectures a bit boring, being that they are from the book, but he is very knowledgeable on the subjects he teaches and gladly answers any and all questions. His tests are pretty easy as long as you read (or even skim) through the textbook and review all of the terms given to you a week or two before the test.

The professor inst difficult , people just dont want to read . Literally just skim the textbook , watch a crash course , or use quizlet and you'll get a A. And even if you don't he offers extra credit almost every week. He was also a very interestin person to talk to and he lets the anyone voice their opinion , left or right I highly recommend him.

This class is very fair. Professor lectures the duration of the class. Lots of extra credit is given, every week actually. Do the reading, the terms and the extra credit, and you are sure to get an A!

He lectures all class. He knows what he's talking about and is eager to answer any questions. You know what your grade is the whole semester bc he gives you back your tests and you just have to do the simple math to figure it out. Old fashioned. Doesn't use Canvas at all. Study for the tests and you're set. He gives you the terms 2 weeks in advance

The professor test's are easy if you come to class and read the textbook. The test are multiple choice format, you have to write down 5 definitions of your choice and sometimes an essay. He offers A LOT of extra credit opportunities. And his lectures are really interesting.

Prof McLaughlin is a great teacher. He lectures all class with no notes or slides, so GO TO CLASS. Take every extra credit opportunity and you'll pass even if you don't do great on tests. STUDY THE TERMS HE GIVES YOU AND ALWAYS READ THE CHAPTERS. Tests are hard, but if you nail the terms, read, and do extra credit then you'll be totally fine.

Honestly have no idea why his ratings are so mixed, he's a great teacher! Gives you what you need to know for the test, so it's an easy class and you learn a ton. The only thing is he lectures, so you should take notes. But I recommend him, he's interesting and doesn't force you, but encourages you to express your own opinions. Great professor.

An amazing teacher that debates about current issues to help you understand them. He is lecture heavy so coming to class is a must. However, there is no Homework and weekly extra credit opportunities. His test is multiple-choice with vocab mixed in. Only 4 tests and take the average of those four. No quizzes either. TAKE HIS CLASS IT'S AMAZING!!!!
