Class is very interesting. It's not for everyone, and he puts a lot out there that most people don't talk about, but it makes for a fun class. A big percentage of grade is based on homework, which is graded relatively easily.

Mr. David J. Medina is a quite an unusual professor, to say the least. However, out of all teachers I have had, he is elite. He is far beyond his time in skill, intellect and teaching approches. Attending his class is addicting. Controversial subj.beware!

Medina is an awesome teacher. True,he will push your buttons and he knows it; but it is only to make a point. His lectures are interesting, and very applicable. Turning in homework is flexible and can be faxed or emailed for convenience.I highly recommend

Don't take this clown for Marriage and Family, he doesn't know what he's doing. Not only that but he insisted on using spanish phrases while teaching. That in itself is fine, but he never put them in english.

This guy made the class so interesting and real for me that I almost considered majoring in Soc! He thinks outside the box and is not always straight forward but is a great conversations/discussions in calss! You learn to see new perspectives!

don't take this class if you want an A. one homework mistake will give you an 0 on the assignment. the way he grades participation is rediculous. overall his class is very interesting and you learn a lot.

The class was interesting, but the work was hard. Don't take if you want an A because most likely you won't get one. He does a lot of stuff online even though its not an online class and has u e-mail assignments to him which sometimes he doens't recieve so you get no credit.

This class was easy, but only if you're halfway computer savvy. It requires attention to detail and ability to FOLLOW instructions. TO GET AN A: memorize the key terms @ the end of the chapters & take good notes during lectures - don't miss class. Gets you thinking - interactive - likes to argue!

This class was very fun.Especially with the type of teacher he is.He really got you thinking and made it fun. But its hard to say how hard it was. It just depends on if you stay on top of your work. If you fall behind then you wont do so well. But if your ontop of it, youll do fine. TAKE NOTES!

Mr. Medina is too awesome! The reading is easy, but learn vocab. His lecture get you thinking, but take notes, he is very much computer savvy, so you'll have to learn. If you miss class not to worry everyone who's on line will help you. He'll open you up so social problems. this man ROCKS!

WORST TEACHER EVER! I think Medina is the one writing all these glowing reviews about himself because they are so wrong! His lectures are a pointless waste of time, none of what he babbles on about is ever on the exams. The exams are based solely on the text and he is extremely disorganized.

This class is very informative and quite easy as far as work. Much of the work is opinionative writing or reading comprehension. The tests are simple as long as you read the chapters and understand "key" terms. He does talk about himself a lot, but he's quite liberal, so if you disagree with his views just tell him; he is open to most opinions.

I love Mr. Medina!! He is one of the very, very best teachers that I've ever taken! I took his class in 1999 and I still think about it every single day. I agree with one of the comments that it should be a mandatory class. It really opens up your mind and your eyes to the world. It's just totally cool and awesome!! You'll love it!!!

Tests are hard and his lectures seem to be long and one sided. His assignments are a little difficult at first but when you get the hang of it, its pretty simple. Just do the work and you'll be ok. If you do all the assignments particapate every once-in-a-while, and avereage D's and F's on exams, you'll pass with a C

At first, he makes u interested and the class seems excieting, then it just draggs and he starts getting on yer nerves. Dont procrastinate hw,test are based on book, while he lectures on other stuff. hw helps u, if yer tests are in the d- average.

Mr. Medina lectures all the time and the tests are from the book, if you dont study it will be extremely hard. His lectures dont really help you on the tests. With hw you have to do it on your own, he expects you to ask others in class for help. Hes a cool teacher but you need to try your hardest in this class.

This class is EASY! I didn't even try that hard and I ended up with a 99% in his class. All you have to do is do your homework and do the readings. The lectures aren't really part of the tests. They're more for your knowledge. They're REALLY interesting though. If you can't pass his class then you must not be doing the readings.

wow, awesome. he teaches good wisdom. i like how he tells stories, makes me think deeply. he doesn't lecture from the book, but he teaches values. exam is not too hard if you read the book, and understand it. besides, he also give high point in homework and participation. do all of those, you are gonna pass. take the extra credit opportunity!!

I bothered to wake up at 630am and went everyday and spoke in class, yet he still gave me a D in participation. His lectures are decent, although he thinks hes the smartest man alive. I would highly advise against taking him if you like being graded fairly. First class Ive failed.

Mr. Medina is a badass, whoever failed the class just didnt do the work. He is lenient about homework, and he is very clear when he teaches the class. Just learn to listen, its a helpfull thing in life. Take his class and do the extra credit trip to Los Angeles and once again do the work and you will for sure get an A.

I took his early class this fall semester and actually learned more than I had thought I would. His lectures are good and almost always proves his points. Tests are rough, mostly from the book. Most of the useful learning was definitely from the lectures though. Tough class, not sure if I passed quite yet.

He is a very unclear teacher. He does not know how to teach, and he does not make us understand the homework clearly. Sometimes he gets out of track and does not really gets over the chapters in the book. He tell his own stories. Sociology is not that hard as hard he is making it.

Mr. Medina is a very cool professor. He doesn't go over the book, but explain the topics out of the box, which is the reality of the world. He is a very nice human being and is not hard at all. Finishing all the assignments, doing good on tests, and participating in the class can guarantee to get an A or B in class. Extra credit is fun and helpful.

Medina is a great teacher. I wouldn't recommend taking the class online unless you are very motivated. However, the face to face class is VERY interesting. You'll leave the class looking at things in a different way. He doesn't teach out of the book so be prepared to read and study the book on your own. Its a great class, I encourage you to take it

Mr. Medina was the best teacher I have ever had. He told us at the beginning that this class could change us forever. It has changed my life and made me look at life from another perspective. If you want a mature class for adults I reccomend taking Mr. Medinas class.

Take this class!! This was the best class I have ever taken. You will have to read the book to get a good grade on the test. Mr. Medina does not lecture from the book but will answer any questions you have from the readings. The topics that are discussedare very interesting and if you actually pay attention and learn it can change your life.

Everybody should take this class, specifically with this professor! Very interesting course. He opens up a lot of interaction between students. I like that he does not give his lectures right out of the text-book, although you still need to read the text-book on your own 'cause you WILL be tested on it. He has lots of worthwhile social commentary.

Deviant! Mr. Medina is no normal professor, but that is why the class is so fun. I took a summer session. He is one of the funniest teachers I've ever met. My face would hurt from laughing and smiling so much. TAKE THIS CLASS! Really easy to get an A: just read, take practice tests, and participate.

Took this class online during the summer. It was pretty straightforward and interesting. Tests cover a lot of material, so make sure to study everything. I would recommend taking this class in person. I would have loved to discuss some of the topics! A must-take class for those in serious relationships!

I think Medina must be better during a long sememster. I had him over winter and found his class unorganized and consfusing. Speaks highly of himself, and low of his students. The Fist C I have recieved in my life was in this class and because I just couldn't follow his assignments. I had never even heard of assignents the day they were due. Avoid

He is a legend in his own mind. He teaches more from personal feelings, textbook is used only for exam material. Not an easy A, studying is not rigorous and cuts a lot of slack because of his personality. He is very laid back, but if you like a structured class he's not the professor for you. Took the online course. He started the course and then broke his wrists and failed to update the class and the school also failed to mention this until the very last minute. Had thought class would be cancelled or extended, but everything was due and really loaded us with work. Only extended the last tests. Fairly easy, but a lot of work!

Medina has changed my outlook in one aspect to a degree. I do not completely agree with him on "issues" but I did not take his class to (dis)agree with him. I took it to learn, and I did. Take Medina if you're sincere about learning. If you just want your A, forget it. He's also military friendly.

Interesting class. Many MC quizs, book is very useful! Must check blackboard frequently for HW updates. Quite inspiring, you will know many aspects of sociology, good for introduction! Must do the extra credit trip, it is great! I also like the video and talks arranged by the teacher. Generally speaking, the grade for this course is not too hard.

Most definitely NOT an easy class but if you are interested in learning, you have to take his SOC1. Makes you really think!! I never ditched class cuz I didn't wanna miss out on the discussions. Handsdown, this class made me think more than all the classes I've taken in my life, combined. I'm glad I took it and I will never forget this class.

^Con't^ Tests are vocab & concepts. Questions are REPEATED though. 6 Tests incl. Midterm/FINAL(which is 7 ch!) Sometimes has a big EGO; has his OWN book & teaches with a "HIS-WAY-OR-THE-HIGHWAY" style. I HATED his way of grading because he gets WAY BEHIND on grades. VERY frustrating at times! MUST DO XTRA-CRED! 5% added to FINAL GRADE. A - 92%

Do NOT take this class if all you care about is GPA! Class is weird! It is essentially TWO classes: one for his lectures, the other is completely based on book-work which he does NOT cover AT ALL! That being said, lectures are EXTREMELY intriguing & should affect you. You definately walk out LEARNING something for a change.

Great professor. Difficult class. Very interesting lectures which don't cover text hardly at all. Tests on lectures are list question style;objective tests on book. Individual learning style. Uses blackboard for discussion posts, homework,some tests,post grades. Go in with an OPEN MIND and you will be analyzing and criticizing everything always!

Not an easy course. Lectures are interesting, but completely self serving, and serve to push a personal agenda. Tests cover the textbook, but NOTHING is reviewed in class. I earned an A, but I learned nothing, all I did was memorize facts. If you are interested in actually learing about Sociology, this is NOT the course for you.

I took his online class for summer. No deadlines. Exams = Online MCQ and T/F questions. Midterm/Final might have to be taken in school(but for us, it was available online towards the end of sem.) Grades SO easy for discussion(i suspect a 10 for anything as long as you post something). Self-taught online class. Learnt stuff. Easy A even w/o Extra C.

He answered a question I had about why he was posting tests and assignments late for the online class I was in and he replied with "chill..." Afterwards, he continued to post tests and assignments late, as well as change on/off campus test policy after the test(s) were due.He also made students take an exam over because he posted the wrong one.

K, he's very funny and interesting/nice, but he's a sociology teacher...his perspectives and philosophies and theologies are very different. He's very controversial so expect "hardcore" topics.exams are OKAY, you NEED to read the book. His lecture tests are oKAY if you take good notes. I highly recommend him if you want to learn,but he's a bit hard

Prof. Medina was a very interesting professor. He talked about real life issues and situations (unrated). If you get offended easily- pick another professor, but if you enjoy speaking your mind- take this class. Prof. Medina is amazing. Would take him again in a heartbeat.

Medina is very critical of education system and his class structure reflects that. He gives the most interesting lectures of any of my professors, which are the true focus of the class. Reading from the textbook is required, but only for a handful of easy multiple choice tests. After it's over, you should have a pretty good understanding of Soc.

Medina is AMAZING!!!! you need to take this teacher! i left this class with open eyes and see things in a whole new light. Medina is not afraid to say it like it is and if you participate in class it is so much fun. Speak your mind, he loves when you have a different point of view. I believe i'm a better person for taking this class :D love him!

Professor Medina is not just a professor... he is a friend as well! Participate openly in class, do your text readings, and complete the work! That is really all there is to it :) If i could rate this professor from 1-10, he would be an 11. Very helpful and nice guy. Be warned, though, some topics he dicusses are highly controversial.

This teacher lectures are boring and he requires you to participate but he shuts you down saying "no" "omg you're not even close" or ignores you and moves on.. He literally is a hard teacher due to his expectations... Trust me, this guy is unorganized and grades whenever he wants to. Don't take him unless you can manage your own grade in the class.

Great teacher....applys all material to the real life scenarios. Most of the things i learned were in class and not from the book. I was shocked at how much i enjoyed the class. Great teacher....apperantly has alot of experience. we never used the book in class. first day he made a great impression.

He teaches a lot of great stuff and sometimes his lectures are interesting..but most of the time they're not. Its funny how he always uses himself in like the third person.. "SO MR. MEDINA, YOU'RE TELLING ME..." It was a good class but you basically need to study and read the book on your own cause he rarely goes over whats on the test in class.

He is an interesting person. His lectures make you think about things that we don't pay attention to. He has so much knowledge that he is willing to give out. Lectures are worthless for test. But he has lecture test sometimes. You just have to read the book on your own for test. Mostly online.

I took his online class a while back, but he's amazing. Even though it was online i enjoyed the class. Don't get me wrong it wasn't easy but you get so involved in the material you appreciate it and learn to love the class. He taught me more about "real" life than any book can ever teach us, and those are great professors.

Great professor with interesting lectures. Do anticipate to teach yourself the lecture is primarily based on his life experiences. He will offend many and it is to be expected due to the subject taught. He will analyze the smallest details about his students to make generalizations about them, and for the most part he is correct.

With Medina, you're basically teaching yourself on your own time. Therefore, there's no incentives in coming to class, as anything he says in class has no pertinence to the test. He tries to justify this by saying it's the students' responsibility to learn. While that's true, it's also the teacher's responsibility to errr teach.

For taking his online class, He give the test for less than 1 min per question,and giving only 30sec to answer each question on the midterm and final. And he post 2 TEST and the FINAL on the last week that is the work for half of the course. Never take his online class!!

Very interesting subject, but noticed he uses a lot of "anecdotal" facts. If you don't like reading, try another class. He tests on lectures and on the chapters in the book. (although he doesn't really lecture on the chapters) Learning the book curriculum is self-taught.

Very enjoyable class lectures. Don't take this class if you're a sensitive coward. He discusses race, religion, and morals. Does not discuss boring book material much, online based multiple choice tests on book chapters though. Do HW/tests, participate and you're good.

by taking his class, you are basically on your own. you would never expect him to lecture the book, which is fine, but what drives you crazy is that ALL his tests are coming from the book that he would never talk about, and also giving you less then 1min per question for 170+ questions online multiple-choice exam.

Class was extremely interesting, though only a couple of the tests focused on the lectures. The exams rely completely on knowledge of the book, which depends on total self-reliance for studying and reading. 1) He is unconventional. 2) Lectures may seem irrelevant but tie in with reading. 3) Make sure you attend class on time to receive test, homework or extra credit instructions. He is not one to repeat himself. 4) MAKE SURE you get classmate contact information. Your classmates are the best sources to staying on track with assignment schedules.

Great Profesor!THis class really got me thinking about where I fit into Society. Mr.Medina kept me on my toes with his lectures. An eye opener for the roles you play out in your life. Take lots of class notes, you will have quizzes on them. Read all assigned chapters to keep up with the class. Overall, a great class.

Professor Medina admits to changing his class up all the time so I don't know how helpful this will be. Test homework and quizes all online. Tour of LA extra credit worth 5%. Will open your mind. Read the book lectures more on concepts but not what was actually read. Had him summer got a B.

This professor is unrealistic his exams are 120 questions in 90 minutes. He does not give study guides or return any papers you have no way to improve because you never see what he graded you on

The Online tests are a joke. If you work a lot and don't have time to literally read the whole textbook, then your out of luck, and I wouldn;t go with Medina. His tests are all from the book and really require a lot of studying and memorizing. I love Soc. and I have to re take his class

Finished His online class yesterday.Got an A. YES you must read the book but if you are paying attention then the test will be easy. Quiz at the end of every chapter, questions will reappear later and you get instant feed back on answers. observation paper is required and discusions. work st your pace a plus!!!

I just finished this online class and received an A, it was really easy. Just don't fall behind and keep up with the readings, also be sure to study well for tests because they are timed. Also do the extra credit LA tour it is really interesting and brings you up 5%. Overall great teacher.

I found Mr. Medina to be quite helpful, and the work that had to be done for the class was not hard at all. YES, you must read the text book in order to pass the exams. I found the course overall to be quite interesting, made me view society a lot different.

Professor Medina is a really nice guy and a dedicated professor. He really loves sociology;however, it was not an easy class. He gives lecture exams and textbook exams. Even if you don't take his online class, most of his work to do is online. He rambles a lot on NOTHING that was supposed to be the lesson of the day. Made the class learn about 3 weeks later than what the syllabus said where we were supposed to be. He doesn't care if you sleep in class if you have a B. Class was frustrating, but will change you.

It's basically an online class. Everything is online, but you still have to sit through his classes. His "lectures" are basically on his life, family, & opinions. The online assignments are easy, but he doesn't cover the book at all & that is what the 200 question tests are on. It is basically just teaching yourself & faking your way through.

Mr.Medina is a great professor! The class is hard but i loved it. Students are required to read and UNDERSTAND the material because the TEST are right off the book. (BUT THEY ARE HARD.) Took him during summer intersession. I put in a lot (and I mean ALOT) of effort in this class in order to get that A. I was taking this class while on vacation and it was tough. He doesn't reply to emails ASAP, he grades hard without any feedback, and there's ALOT of reading. Other than that, his extra credit was interesting. Would not recommend.
