I thought that he is a wonderful teacher that really want to help his students take the next step in their college career. He wants to help students and the grading is very fair.

Professor Merson demonstrates deep commitment to teaching English. He is knowledgeable, fair in grading, available during office hours, has a good sense of humor, and gives of his time.

He is helpful and his comments were very useful. I learned a lot in his class. You have to show up for classes,but a lot is covered that will help you become a better writer.

He is a literary genius. If you trust him to mold your writing with his hands then you will become a literary genius too. Also, very easy on the eyes ummmmmmmmm...grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.His name should be Professor Campbell because he is mmmm...mmmm...good

Merson has a very entertaining and soft personality. I swore many times I thought he was going to cry. He's just very sensitive. Some people think he's also rather attractive. He's easy so long as you do your work, but his class can be quite boring.

Comments are really helpful. Cares a lot about writing and will spend time with you out of class improving your work.

Merson is a very nice person and he does try to help each student improve their writing, but the class is so boring. Stay awake and you should do fine.

I thought he was absolutely fantastic. Incredibly helpful and he offered some great constructive criticism while still telling you what you are doing right as well. My writing drastically improved, but it did take some effort on my part. You can't expect the professor to do everything.

Laid back but helpful to all the students as long as they were willing to put forth some effort. Challenged both the best writers and the newbies while maintaining a sense of humor and sensitivity to the tender feelings of someone having their work critiqued for the first time.

He's a very good and laidback professor. He has fun in class and tries to make it fun for all the students. I didn't find all of the lectures to hold a lot of purpose, but they were fun nonetheless. Be willing to take whatever he advice he gives, and work with it.

At first I was pulling a "C" but if you put effort in all your essays and seek additional help if things seem unclear... you should do fine. With a little extra effort I was able to pull my grade up to a "B" I wish I would of applied myself more in the begining. Definately possible to achieve an"A"

I'm the person that pulled my grade up to a "B" from a "C"... I ended up pulling off an "A" in this class with a little hard work. As long as you try your hardest and ask questions when things are unclear... an "A" is not hard to achieve at all :o) Merson is very helpful and nice.

Not too boring. He sure does frolick around the classroom a lot. But pretty nice, tries to make the class interesting.

Mr. Merson is hilarious.....his comments and personal stories liven up the class...honestly, he's gotta be one of the best professors I've had so far.....He's awesome.....and he really...takes time to help out the students

It's entertaining to watch him frolicking around the class!! LOL. It's a fun class, essay are kindu tough, but that's expected. I got a high B on every essay so far. I'd recommend him.

Merson is an awesome professor. You will learn bunches from his grading on essays and the workshop in the writting center. I highly recommend Merson for anyone who desires a fair, entertaining Professor with a top notch education.

I thought that Mr. Merson was a lot of fun. I think that using humor in a classroom always helps make lectures more interesting. He is definitely unorganized but he never lost any of my papers. He is a great teacher for learning how to write great essays. He is also late about 10 minutes each class so dont leave!

Great teacher. He brought more personality, fun, and engaging banter to class than all the rest of my ARC profs combined. I've learned so much from him about writing. Very helpful comments on papers. Take a class with Merson, if you can! :-)

Good teacher. He grades a little hard but it keeps the class challenging. Hes an interesting guy always comes up with off the wall examples.

Merson is a fun, quirky teacher, but doesn't seem all there, being on the ARC Review staff during this term. His class in one word is usual. It's what you expect in an english class. He gives you helpful feedback on your essay. I hated the writing center portion. An extra credit for it though. A pretty good teacher.

I took Merson for 3 different creative writing classes. He really knows his stuff, and is really good at guiding creativity without influencing it too much (that takes finesse). Workshop-style classes are great for anyone interested in creative writing, and he is funny and entertaining. Great teacher, take him if you can!

requires .5 unit at the writing center but it actually helps your writing so i guess it serves its purpose. hard grader and class is boring but what he expects is clear. offers extra credit.

He was a great teacher. At first he reminded me of a cross between Edward Norton and Mr. Rogers. He always tries to help you, and he definitely cares about the students. He also has a strong sense of fashion. The essays are easy if you can BS a lot, even though he says he hates BS in papers. He's pretty intelligent.

"Talks to much about his life. Accroding to other teacers, he's a poet. He doesn't understand essays." So, it's "too", "according", and "teachers". Generally one should know how to spell for a college level course. Merson is amazing. He can be a little disorganized, but if you're a writer, you understand that. He knows essays better than most.

He is a very nice guy, always has a smile on his face, and he teachs wonderfully!

This will be one of the most interesting professors you will ever have. Wants everyone to succeed, yet will be slightly tough on essay grading. However, very easy going, fun in lecture and has a quirky sense of humor. If you put in a little bit of effort and can write somewhat intelligently, you will get an A/B.

this class requires a lot of work, and you have tot hink outside of the box. he's really nice, but he's not afraid to write mean comment on your work... i got a lot of those :( haha;you write like 3 poems a nonfiction and a fiction piece and you do reading responses and some other writing assignment, there's about 16 altogether. don't fall behind!

Great professor. He is a hoot in class and has a great energy about him. His classes are a lot of work, but they are so worth it--you will learn a lot. Take from Merson! He's AWESOME!

This professor is great-if he shows up! He is truly the most disorganized guy on the face of the planet. However, I feel that I learned more about English from him than I ever have before in other English classes. Just keep up on him and make sure that he doesn't lose your work.

he is a cool professor, but he thinks hes a philosophy professor! It's hard to pay attention sometimes because he gets really boring. You'll write like 5 essays through out the semester and he can be leanant with that SOMETIMES. Beware of his Horribel jokes! Doesnt always listen to what you have to say.

incredibly unorganized, even more now since he just had a baby. If you like writing and doing alot of work then this is the class for you. we do alot of reading and response in this class. doesnt stick to his sylibis. Grades hard on essays.

David Merson is a great Professor although he is a little disorganized and changes syllabus a lot; however, he knows his stuff. This is a very very easy class. Good luck!

Professor Merson is a great teacher and is a very nice and helpful guy. Also he makes this class interesting and fun. Although, be warned because you will have to work for your grade, so if you're a slacker don't take this course.

He is really funny and nice, but VERY disorganized. The work is challenging and there is a ton of it. He lets you know exactly what he wants. I just wishhe was a little more put together... the ever changing due dates is frustrating.

Prof. Merson is one of the best professors I've ever had. Ever. I earned my BA from UCLA, where I studied Eng. and later Film/TV. 3 years later, I went back to ARC to return to my 'creative writing roots' & learn new writing techniques. He was twice as good as the best teacher I ever had at UCLA. He knows a lot & is there to help. You will grow!

I love him! Anyone that can't squeeze at least a B out of this class must be a major slacker! He's lenient with late work and always extends deadlines. He's an excellent teacher and I recommend him to anyone!

Although he was a little disorganized as previous comments stated, I would like to counter false statements about clarity and responsiveness. He gives an outline of EXACTLY how he wants you to respond to everything! Quick to respond to emails. He gives opportunities for extra credit. If someone had trouble responding to assignments not his fault.

Professor Merson's teaching style suits me well. I never found myself confused over assignments; he outlines clearly what he expects for each paper. Anyone who complains about his expectations for papers obviously wants an easy A. A good teacher improves your writing so you may earn your A; he grades you with honesty and constructive criticism.

Professor Merson is a good professor as long as you do your work and ask questions! He makes himself available if you ask. The text book comes in handy for writting. I thought he was a great professor the effort you put in will reflect in your grade! I wish I had more rquired english to take I really enjoyed his class!

I had professor Merson for his ENGWR 301 online class and I really liked him. The material was both enlightening and challenging. He is tough, and has high standards but if you keep up on the small assignments you'll be okay. Also it is awesome that he was a fan of Gogol Bordello and the Pouges. All in all a good class but definitely a challenge.

I took Merson's online class- first class I've ever done online and I was pleased! Mr. Merson brings humor into his teaching, he's a very nice prof, who wants you to do well and will do anything he can to help out. He was sick most of the semester, but still made sure to reply to emails and grade our assignments, always giving detailed feedback.

Great teacher! I can safely say that he's the best English teacher I've had in college. Very nice, gives great feedback, and has very interesting essay topics. He is always trying to help every one of his students to succeed, and I would definitely recommend taking him. I just wish he taught ENGWR302!

One of the best online classes I've taken. He is so good at communicating with the class via D2L. Uses the LitMag for fiction stories, which was way more interesting than a textbook. Easy discussions, easy quizzes, as long as you do them. Essays weren't AS easy, but still not hard and he takes the time to explain your grade. Definitely recommended.

Good teacher. Makes learning kinda fun. Dont go in thinking easy A, you will have to work for your grade. I would recommend him.

Has a checklist to keep things organized which was a great tool. Assignments due almost every Sun and Wed. 3 books for the class. Fair essay grader. Follow the guidelines. He had a difficult semester but always communicated with the class. Work ahead of due dates. Slow grader. Would recommend for part timers, LOTS OF WRITING/DISCUSSIONS.

I was terrified of taking this class as I hate reading and especially writing. I was hoping for a C; I got an A. This teacher made it possible. He has so many resources for success. A lot of work, if I got an A, anyone can make it happen as well. Merson is hilarious btw, but firm when needs to be. I went from hating writing essays to loving it.

love him! its my first time back to school in 10yrs so im a bit rusty but he is very helpful. im taking WAC and have him as my tutor so it works out well. I was most afraid of all the essays going back but he totally takes the fear out :)

Interesting, I have to admit I really worked hard for a A yet he is amazing teacher who is willing to help if you want to go the extra mile. He has alot of assignments but is fair and clear. I would recommend this class to anyone if you want to learn Mr Merson is open to discussion and wants class to participate for all assignments.

Best English teacher I ever had. I had trouble on my second essay but he gives you a chance at the end to fix an essay. Also be sure to check the checklist ahead of time to know what to do, like read the book. Has the best sense of humor, always knows what's up, gives clear feedback so you could know what to work on for your next assignments.

I have taken Merson for multiple english courses, but this is the first time taking an online class of his and I must say he is an awesome professor! I have tried many other professors and none have sufficed the way Prof Merson does. I highly recommend him for the english strugglers out there, mandatory is a must for passing.

Merson is a great English Professor! He chooses two inexpensive books. Both books are great reads. See him during office hours & he will help you. He is a stickler for grammar, but it will only improve your writing. He lets you clean up 1 essay for an improved score. Plus he gives you lots of little (easy) assignments that help boost your grade.

Professor Merson's class was really interesting. Class discussions were hilarious and very in depth. He gives plenty of time to write essays as well as opportunities to get help in class. I always made him go over my essays before I finalized them which I feel helped improve my writing. I would take his class again.

He's a pretty funny professor, I enjoyed his class. There are 4 essays and a couple of other simple assignments. He gives good feedback on papers. However he is a tough grader, so make sure you reread your final essays for any little mistakes.

So glad to take him! He teaches you how to fix your essay in few steps, which are still very helpful for me now! He is willing to help! Work hard and you will be fine.

This professor is the best one you could take for English. He is clear at explaining the lesson, the HW in class is fairly easy and he doesn't give any tests. He has 3 essays and they are interesting to write. Take him and you won't regret.

He is easily one of my favorite professors. You can tell he's passionate about what he teaches. He will go out of his way to try to explain things in a way so you can get a better understanding of it. The homework is easy and he hardly gave quizzes. He grades fair on essays but he will even tell you he is particular with grammar. Take Merson!

One of my all time favorites. He is very thorough, BIG on grammar, and wants his students to do well. Quizzes are easy and although the class can be a lot of work, it is worth it. I learned a lot and he is super responsive to questions and gives good, honest feedback. Take him and what you learn will benefit you for years to come.

Professor Merson is very laid-back and willing to help you as much as he can. Will assign 3 to 4 essays . Do not be afraid he is more than happy to help you , Best advice is to go to his office hours . Super funny and outgoing that I would love to take this class again

Mr. Merson is an awesome professor. He cares so much about students. He is also very friendly and funny. You need to work honestly and put effort into your work because he can easily tell if you really invest any effort in your homework or not. I'm a second language speaker, but I got an A so you can do it too. Mr. Merson is the best.

Even though Professor is adamant about writing style, i.e. proper sentence structure and thesis, he is passionate about teaching you correctly. I must say, even though I personally struggled, I did learn good writing habits.

I loved Professor Merson! Out of all my college professors and classes, I can honestly say his was the most engaging I have ever taken! (and that is saying something because it is online!) While there is a lot of homework, reading, and analyzing material, it is all so helpful and worth it!

Merson is a solid choice. He gives good feedback on all assignments. Personally, I found the material we wrote about interesting. This class isn't really an easy A but you can take away good things from it.

I took his online class. You have to do A LOT of writing for the discussion boards, which got pretty annoying but its a writing class so whatever. You write 3-4 essays and I personally found the topics to be hard. But he does give good feedback on the essays.

Very good choice of professors! Merson is understanding, kinda soft-spoken, and readily approachable. He will work with all types of writers, and his feedback and criticisms were fair and well-rounded. If you respect him and the work, you'll do nicely. If not, he'll still help but his scathing retorts will burn. Not an easy A, but worth it.

Personally, I liked this class. Merson's assignments are on tough and controversial issues, rather than just a book report, and you have to flesh out a stance on each one. One of my favorite classes for the interesting subjects covered. However, he was late to most classes, and missed at least 4. Some papers were graded over a month later.

A fantastic English professor who truly wants the best for students. The class consists of a generous amount of reading materials, discussions, and three essays (which are easy and interesting). Because of COVID, my class was graded on one-essay and a few other assignments. The easiest English class I've ever taken, definitely recommend taking it.

This term was really hard on him he struggled with his mental health a lot. He is a amazing teacher and wanted what was best for his students. The work we did get was good and he was trying his best to communicate that he was struggling the whole time. I would recommend this class for his reviews before this term where great.

A lot of our classes got canceled this semester, but other than that he's a very chill professor and he doesn't grade harshly.

Attendance is crucial, but if you engage, it's a manageable course. The essays are challenging but the professor provides helpful feedback. For study prep, try using Unstuck study alongside other resources like ChatGPT.

He is a very helpful professor. My chillest professor of the semester. He wasn't in class too much because of unlucky circumstances. Class was very easy, and I only had 3 writing assignments for the semester. Chill, non-overwhelming lectures and writing assignments were fascinating to write about. I would recommend!
