You have to study but the class is definitely worth it.
Interesting lecturer - I found his tests to be quite hard (even having rarely missed class) Take it if you are willing to do some work! (and get up for those 8am lecturers)
AWESOME teacher! sooo funny! he only teaches at 8am though but it's worth it! definitley take him!
the ideal teacher!
His class is awsome!!! I loved the Beavis and Butt Head and Man in a thong clips! Very entertaining but at the same time you learn so much. I didn't think his tests were very difficult.
i pulled off an A in the class and i liked him so much i'm taking him again in animal behavior
amazing professor--- made the class fun!
not helpful, avoid if you dont like bs classes.
I am on the line about Dr. Miller. I love how he uses cartoons in his examples. His test aren't terrible (except for the one on the brain :( ) Note: Since he doesnt have a text book you really have to go to class and take really good notes. Don't go to office hours with bad grade issues you get nowh
Very interesting but tests are WICKED HARD. Especially the midterm.
this guy is so cocky its a crime. u waste ur money on a book of slides he uses in class only to stress b/c his exams are RIDICULOUSLY hard for it to be an into freshman course. sure he uses cartoons & movie clips to keep ur interest @ 8am but he's an ass..i promise! if u can...find another prof.
AWESOME PROF! Great guy all around. Down to earth, funny. Made the class fun. I was laughing so hard I had to excuse myself from class once.
memorize everything he says. everything. also do the extra credit pysch experiments. it was what bumped my grade up from an A- to an A. people go on about how cool this guy is, i think he is cocky and a tad overrated. but if you put in the time, and its hard at 8 a.m., and memorize, memorize, memorize (even though he says not to) anyone can get an A
take this course to have an A+ averaged into your g.p.a.
Great professor. Keeps you entertained and awake most of the time even at 8am. Tests were very hard, but suck it up ****ers you're in college now.
Funny guy. Exams are tough. Start studying about a week or so before the exam. I wish I did and I know I would have done better. There is no text book. You buy his spiral book that has all the course info to the powerpoints.
This class was rather interesting. As a business major I was forced to take this class and chose Dr. Miller b/c I liked his teaching style during my orientation. The class is at 8 am which was rough, but it was manageable as he kept things entertaining. The tests are ridiculously hard though. Start studying early and often. Overall good professor.
I took this class in the fall of 1998 and it has impacted me ever since. He has the best delivery of any educator that I have ever had. A must take class for a variety of reasons.
You dont have to study early if you are good at memorizing stuff. He says 'don't memorize!' but all I did was memorize the slides the day before the exam and I got an A every time. He's a cool guy and shows fun clips.
Dr. Miller is a wonderful professor. He puts a great deal of time into class preparation- his powerpoints are very entertaining with all the movie clips and effects. It's hard to make it to class at 8am, but it's mandatory since there isn't a text. Study hard for the 2nd exam. If you listen in class and memorize your notes, you'll be fine.
Wonderful teacher who really knows his subject (especially birds) and really gets you interested in what he's saying by the use of multimedia (yay Family Guy and Southpark!). I'm just sad I've taken all his udnergrad courses.
Awesome professor! I took his class spring 2007. He says you need to study 2 weeks in advance before every exam to do well, but this is not so. The only time I studied was the night before each exam, and I ended up with a 98% in the class.
The best teacher I have ever had!!! Definitely take whatever class you can with him, especiall PSYC 132 (General Psychology I)
Miller is an awesome teacher and his lectures are so interesting that you want to go which is good because you have to in order to do well in the class. His exams are hard and you really do have to study a lot for them. He offers extra sessions called SI which are helpful and I recommend going to. Take this class with Miller!!!
For animal behavior it is really helpful to get the notebook that he calls optional. You can get by with taking notes but its easier with the class notebook.. He is a cool guy, keeps things interesting and has really fair exams. Good teacher.
For animal behavior it is really helpful to get the notebook he calls "optional". You can get by with taking notes but its easier with the class notebook.. He is a cool guy, keeps things interesting and has really fair exams. Good teacher. Recommended.
Great teacher. If you don't have that much of a problem waking up twice a week to make it to his 8AM then I would recommend taking this class. Great teaching style and sense of humor, keeps things interesting. Expects a lot of his students, Exams are on a lot of material but if you put time into and GO TO CLASS you will do fine.
Really interactive, very enthusiastic. Great professor. Tests are on the harder side, but as long as you go to lecture and study at least two nights before the exam, you should be fine. ENTERTAINING.
Awesome professor, keeps you interested, and the visuals help you remember the information when studying. His tests are hard, and you have to go to class since there isn't a textbook, but definitely worth it! You'll learn a lot!
Attend Class and Re-write the notes after class. He uses a book with all his slides and you add in what he lectures. The lectures are extremely interesting and utilize technology. He is a fantastic Professor. The class is easy if you study efficiently in advance. Nothing is unfair. Attend class or you will fail though.
Lame. Thinks too highly of himself, including that he is hilarious which he's not. Spends so much time showing lame clips from movies and fam guy. Tests are managable with a considerable amount of work. Plus class is at 8am. Not worth it.
I loved this class more than anything. Even though it was at 8am I looked forward to going to it. I never skipped a class. Dr. Miller's enthusiasm made me so interested in the class. I loved his funny video clips they really helped you to remember the concepts. All and all I just really loved this class. Dr. Miller is a great professor.
He made me so interested in psychology because he is so passionate about what he does and in his teaching. He actually makes you want to learn. It's because of his class that I am now majoring in psychology.
Dr. Miller is an awesome guy! He made me want to become a psychology major! He loves what he is doing, and makes class very interesting. He keeps you awake by playing clips from TV shows and using fun animations on his slides. He is energetic and such a nice guy. His tests are challenging, but do able if you keep up with the material. TAKE IT!
Amazing professor, uses many graphics and videos during his lectures to keep it engaging and interesting to the class. Everything is based off of his notes, no textbook. Must study and prepare well for his exams b/c the questions are a bit tricky. Expect a B. Only down side is that it's only at 8AM. Beware if you're not a morning person.
Lectures are actually very interesting, but definitely need to be given they're at 8AM. However, prof loves himself entirely too much; can be unbearable at times. Loves to hear himself talk, often felt suffocated by his unheard of infatuation with himself and his podcasts, which he claims are "internationally popular." Exams very tricky/mult choice
Lectures are always great, full of illustrations and videos, which details everything that you need to know. Will include videos clips or pics from movies, Family Guy, etc. No textbook, just his manual, which is full of his slides. Read the whole manual, it basically tells you how to pass the class through study habits and organizational tips.
REALLY REALLY HARD. 8 AM are really tough but went to all classes still got a C and I studied a lot. Dont take him hes tough hard to understand and he loves himself.
One of the best professors at the university. Definitely worth taking his class.
Okay so if you don't like going to to morning classes, don't take Miller. If you even miss one class you're in a world of hurt for exams. I only passed because I did well on the final, which had the easiest material. Make sure to go to SI because that REALLY REALLY helps. Otherwise his lectures are fun but he moves through his material really fast.
Early morning classes, but you'll never be bored! Probably UConn's most famous professor- uses hilarious video clips/pictures to make lecture more interesting. Lab sucks, but attendance is mandatory. Attend lecture and review notes to do well on exams. Offers podcasts online as well as supplimental instruction sessions. Great professor!
The class is early and it's hard to get up and go, but there's never really a dry point in the lecture since everything he says is important and usually entertaining with pictures and video clips. He made love to hear himself talk, but that's alright because he's good. His podcasts, extra INTD study class and supplemental instruction are great too.
good all around guy tests can be tough
Great professor! Although he only offers 8am lectures, his class is well worth it. Lecture attendence is mandatory but he makes them both very interesting and entertaining by using clips from family guy and funny pictures related to the material. There is no textbook for this class which is really nice, just his manual which covers everything.
Great teacher. Dedicated in his worK in more ways than a teacher tries. I don't recommend this as a gen Ed, take it if you're a psych major. You'll do well and definitely get to know him.
Attendance is absolutely mandatory since he uses his examples from lectures on exams but as long as you go, take notes, and put 4 or 5 hours into studying the night before, you'll get an A. Lectures were hilarious, and he is EXTREMELY straight forward with what you need to know. Overall, your college experience won't be complete w/o this class!
HE IS THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!! kinda creepy though
Awesome use of technology.
Great lecturer, VERY interesting material. Really funny powerpoints and very enthusiastic about what he teaches. Exams are EXTREMELY difficult, but he offers many extra help opportunities. don't take this course if you aren't willing to put in hours of studying. GO TO THE EXTRA HELP CLASS if it fits into your schedule.. veryyy helpful.
HE'S GREAT! does video modules instead of lectures and those are great because you can do them on your own time and rewind if you dont understand something. exams aren't too bad, but you definitly need to study. and there is a good amount of material but the final isnt cummulative.
Awesome class. No textbook, watch the video modules on your own time, and occasional lectures. Easy class if you don't get behind watching the modules. Read your notes over twice and you'll do fine on exams (non-cumulative final). He tests concepts more than specifics. Learned some really interesting stuff and enjoyed the class!
Interesting, keeps your attention, but exams are relatively difficult and designed to trick you
This class is insane. He expects students to put in up to an extra 6 hours a week of studying FOR AN INTRO LEVEL COURSE. There is so much extra material that is included that should be saved for upper level classes and exams are so hard. The only good part is lab because it offers extra credit. He expects his class to be #1 priority and it is NOT f
I disliked this class very much. I went to all of the lectures and took detailed notes, and still the exams were beyond difficult. It is very unlikely you will pass the exams, and the only way I passed was because I did good in lab and did extra credit. Unless you plan on only taking this class and no other classes during the semester..DONT TAKE IT
Awful, awful class. I actually paid attention and went to almost every lecture, and I still had difficulty doing well on his exams. Expects triple the amount of work you should need to do for an Intro level class. Do NOT take him as a professor. You will regret it.
Dr. Miller is a very good professor that is passionate about the material and always finds time to help his students. However, he only offers 8am classes which can get really old really fast. Also, if you're looking for an easy gen ed consider a different professor. Dr. Miller is good, but takes the class a little too seriously.
AWEFUL. I was told that he was a great teacher and that I should take a class with him, and he only offers 8AM classes so I took the risk. Extremely hard, extremely sarcastic and rude when you go to him for help, it was an immense struggle to pull off an average grade for this class. Hardest intro i've ever taken, DO NOT TAKE IT WITH HIM.
Great teacher. He gave all the information that would be on the tests and offered all types of extra help. His podcasts are amazing. Even though its an 8 am he still showed really crazy videos to wake us all up, usually music videos. I love this class even though I got a B+. I got a 96 on the final and he offers tons of extra credit. TAKE HIS CLASS
Miller is one of the best professors UConn offers. The class is more difficult than it initially seems, but here's the formula: Go to lecture, go to SI, go to the podcast. Honestly, there's so much review available, and if you can make it, the material starts to become second nature. I'm amazed by how much I use it in my day-to-day conversation.
Great professor- learned A LOT. His lectures were always interesting! I didn't find his exams that hard, all you had to do is study. :)
I LOVED this class. the lectures were really interesting and Miller was always willing to help. the class requires a decent amount of studying but it's totally possible to get an A. HIGHLY recommended.
This class is a Tuesday/Thursday 8am so that's a HUGE downfall. Miller is all about everyone getting good grades and he has plenty of opportunities to help you out. Lecture is DEFINITELY necessary to go to We didn't use the book this semester because it was printed wrong so our exams were lecture based. You won't get by cramming, studying is a must
Even though this class is at 8am Dr. Miller makes it interesting. He offers lots of extra help, and the tests are pretty easy and straightforward as long as you go to class and study. The lectures are clear and organized, with lots of examples so the material is easy to understand. Definitely take Psych with Dr. Miller!
Exam questions are a bit tricky and not very straight forward. Miller is interesting and makes psychology interesting but don't underestimate this class just because it is an introductory course.
Good guy, not a hard into course if you study and keep up with things. My class had a messed up textbook so lectures are even more critical.
8 AM classes that you have to go to if you want to get reasonable grades on the exams, but it's not hard to stay awake during class. He uses a lot of technology and sound to augment his class, and a lot of what he talks about is very interesting, although he wanders a bit.
the absolute man.
Cool guy and makes lectures fun/interesting, but his tests are really hard. You can study like crazy multiple hours per day leading up to the exams, feel confident that you know the material, and then you get the test and there's completely foreign material on it.
By far the best professor at Uconn, requires attendance and a lot of studying for the exams, but its a good trade off for what you learn and his innovative teaching methods.
Dr. Miller is always willing to help, and his lectures are pretty entertaining. If you attend lecture, study your notes, and take advantage of the opportunities Miller offers (SI/podcasts/office hours) to do well, you'll do well. It's very easy to get an A if you're willing to put in the work.
Awesome Class! Miller is so interesting and you come out of class knowing a lot. You must attend class and study if you want to get an A. The tests aren't hard if you study a lot!! He provides a lot of extra help and I definitely recommend S.I. as a great way to clarify information and review your notes. Best class I've had so far at UConn!
this professor is the best professor I have had so far at UCONN. He is head if the psyc department and he knows what he is talking about, he also is funny to talk to and to listen to in class. The only down side is the 8 am starting time, if you dont mind early morning this class is recommended
He thinks he is so great and so innovative but in the end its just another class. Its not hard, its not easy, its just there. Overall the tests are kinda hard but not too bad. It is very annoying how he says "podcast" once every 30 seconds, all right we know you make podcasts enough already!
If you cannot take Psychology with Dr. Miller, he is so amazingly amazing that you MUST wait until you can take it with him. His class is relevant, fast-paced, and always intriguing. He puts so much effort and care into every single lecture it makes other professors appear lazy and incomplete. If you are taking PSYC 1101, TAKE IT WITH MILLER!
His lectures are not boring because he uses a lot of clips and animations to make it more interesting. However he doesn't put the notes online so you must attend class. His tests are difficult and not straight forward. Honestly I would choose another professor if you want an A.
Psych wasn't my major & his tests are CONFUSING and hard. DON'T TAKE THE HONORS SECTION, it will only kill you =4 extra assignments and a paper. doesn't give enough extra credit except for a cumulative final (which is a lot!)Miller keeps the class entertaining like a movie but its useless if you really want to focus and pass.dsn't give study guide
Definitely recommend taking psych with Miller!! As long as you study well enough in advance & understand the concepts, you should be fine! Just go to every class and write down EVERYTHING he says word-for-word. The exams are almost verbatim from lectures. Recopy your notes, attend podcasts & SI if you can, and remember all the examples!!
I absolutely love David Miller. He is the best psychology professor I have ever had. He presents a lot of complex and informative material and gives easy exams. As long as you do the work you will get an A. You only have to show up to class once every other week (unless your honors section) and all of his material is online.
he is a pretty good professor, slightly annoying but he teaches well and his exams are fairly easy if you just study, the exams are pretty straightforward. only downside is he only teaches an 8 am and there is no real textbook so you pretty much have to go to class. But i would recommend it!
For an 8 am, Millers class kept me interested. He is great at creating powerpoints and really illustrates difficult material making it easier to comprehend, on the final he let us use a cheat sheet and his podcasts are great to listen to while studying for his exams. I highly recommend him!
If you need to take psych1100 take it with miller! I was facinated by his lectures and dedcided to minor in psych because of this class. Great professor, great class. Definitely worth taking!
He is a great, interesting, very helpful professor. Class is fun every day. But he is also a very tough professor in terms of grading. If you're a psych major, he's the best professor for PSYC 1100. If you want an easy gen ed, DO NOT take his class, take it from another professor. It will help your grade, but you will learn less and enjoy it less.
Freshmen...look elsewhere for this course. He keeps the material interesting and is a good professor, but his exams are far too difficult (in my opinion) for fall semester freshman. Got a D in the class because of an F on the midterm and Cs on his other exams. Two years later as a junior, Im still trying bouncing back from this grade.
Dr. Miller is very enthusiastic and fun. His class has a lot of material, but if you come to class and take extensive notes on the slides he gives you, you'll do fine. He gives you every opportunity to succeed with a podcast series, supplemental instruction, and extra credit through experimental participation.
All I can say is Meh. I had really high expectations going in because of all the wonderful things people said about him, but once I got to the class, I was frequently bored, and annoyed by Dr. Miller. He didn't like his own jokes, and honestly could have ended the course 4-5 lectures earlier. Not really worth the 8am, but an interesting subject.
One of the best courses I took at UConn and I'm not pursuing anything in animal science. No textbook at all just hours of wildlife videos made by Dr. Miller. Very time consuming but show up for class, watch ALL the modules and take notes and you'll get an A. Miss one module and you'll pay for it though. Must be independent.
I was not interested in psyc, but I really enjoyed lectures. The exams are not impossible to get an A on; you just need to put time into studying. Honestly, the worst part of this class is the lab, which is pointless and tedious.
Psych is interesting, and he tries realllllly hard to make it fun for everyone. Sometimes he's pretty cheesy. I thought I was going to despise this class and it was pretty ok.
Honestly one of the best classes I've ever taken. Truly an interesting and engaging professor. You *NEED* to go to lecture to do well in this class. Highly recommend taking this course with this professor.
The most interesting and engaging class I have ever had. It is difficult and you need to go to lecture...there is no way to beat around that. Great professor but you need to study hard for his tests! A lot of work but you learn a lot
Miller is a wonderful professor! He make class interesting, and has a good sense of humor. Generally just a cool guy. I don't know why his easiness rating is so low. I had him in intro psych and animal behavior. Attend class and take notes and listen, and his test are straight forward, no surprises. I would recommend taking a class with him.
Miller is very knowledgeable. People say he is difficult, but as long as you attend class that is half the battle. He uses a lot of animations and media which helps you remember things. The subject is beyond interesting which makes studying all around not too bad.
miller is the best. would take his class 1000x over.
He is good at keeping things interesting and very funny. you NEED to go to class. the tests are pretty hard so studying its a must.
Dr. Miller always provides an interesting, exciting, and easy to follow lecture. The exams aren't so bad if you attend every class and study. I definitely would suggest attending every lecture because there is no textbook or way to catch up on all the information.
This class was fantastic, especially for psych majors. Exams are tough but I got a 82, 78 and 88 on the three exams and ended up with an A- because he replaces the lowest score with the final if you do better. Go to lecture! I really enjoyed the class as a whole and he has postcasts, which are great to listen eot before each exam.
HE IS EXTRAORDINARY!! He is super funny, and his class is splendid. He is always generous to give his help, very approachable. GO TO CLASS, then the exam will be much easier.
This course is not easy and most likely is the hardest section of psych1100. Knew a lot of friends who got an easy A with a different professor. However, you will learn the most with Miller. He replaces your lowest exam score with your final exam score if you do better which is a complete grade saver.
best class, but you must very diligent in reviewing notes and attending all lectures. Exams are strictly critically thinking, it's not define this or that.
This class is really easy. Just go on to iTunes and watch the postcasts he put after every lecture and make sure you take notes. You don't even need to go to class. I'm not sure why people have struggled with him as a professor.
You didn't ever really need to show up to class, but I usually did just because the topics were interesting and he makes the class enjoyable. The topics aren't difficult but there is a lot of memorization. For the exams I got an A, C+, A and an A in lab, so I ended up with an A. The experiments also allow for lots of extra credit, so it's an easy A
Miller is a fantastic Professor. He goes above and beyond and gives students every opportunity to succeed. His lectures are exciting, his podcasts are incredibly helpful and his enthusiasm is contagious. Yes, the exams are hard, but you will learn so much.
Best professor I've ever had! Dr. Miller is fascinating and hilarious! The class is easy as long as you attend every lecture. His multi-media presentations make every class interesting. It is the only lecture I've ever looked forward to attending. I highly recommend Dr. Miller. He is such a cool guy and very receptive to students' questions.
Dr. Miller's Animal Behavior class is by far the best class I have ever had in my college career. It is an in class/online hybrid, so therefore you have to watch a lot of modules and occasionally he will have lecture. He is very knowledgable about this topic and does an amazing job teaching it. He really puts his heart and soul into his teaching
Awesome professor, probably the best professor I've had at Uconn. Be wary that he exams are pretty tough. I got a 76 on the first exam and I am usually an A student. But I figured out how to read his exam questions (don't look too hard into the questions) and it worked out well for me. With the extra credit and his exam policy, ended up with an A!
Miller gives interesting and funny lectures. However, you have to take good notes in order to do well on exams. Offers plenty of help if you are struggling. Wants students to reach out to him. Highly recommend. Doesn't have you waste money on buying a text book you don't need. Everything for exams comes from lectures. Labs aren't related.
I had Miller for freshman honors block. He was an astoundingly difficult teacher, yet the information he left me with is truly priceless. He taught me the skill of writing effective papers, and I can honestly say it'll help me out for the rest of college. If you're willing to work with him, he's willing to help you: he knows his class is hard.
Professor is an amazing man. Goes above and beyond the call of duty. There is a ton of material to cover and only 3 exams. This makes the course hard for a 1000 level course. Studying is a must. Lots of supplemental learning opportunities. There is a lab grade and extra credit through studies, my lab was a piece-of-cake but others had tougher TAs.
He's a creepy old man and is pretty condescending if you ask him questions. Having said that he is definitely a very good professor who knows his stuff . He also puts a huge amount of effort into his lectures and it shows. Personally I don't like him as a person, but his class is worthwhile if you can put up with him.
Miller is an odd guy. He makes his lectures interesting by adding videos an visuals. If you're a Psych major, I recommend you take this class. Test are not too difficult but they are only 32 MC long, which makes it hard to get an A. Lab is unnecessary. He thinks he's hilarious but sometimes his attempts at being funny are lame and annoying.
If you have to take psych 1100, take it with Miller! He presents the material in an easy to understand manner, with lots of visuals and videos. He doesn't just rattle off slides. People who said his class was hard probably didn't show to up class because if you show up to class and take notes, you will do well. Lab was pointless but a grade booster
Great professor. Uses multimedia to teach and gives memorable examples in class. There are postcasts that are pretty much the same as the lectures online, but definitely go to class as it makes the exam much easier. Exams arent bad so long as you read carefully. Lowest exam replaced with the final if final grade is higher. Lots of extra credit too.
The class has no textbook & is all notebased which is awesome. his lectures are great with funny examples. start studying 2 weeks before the exam and you will crush it or rewrite notes after class. he has extra credit which YOU SHOULD USE and the lab is only 16% of the grade which is AWESOME because lab is useless and tedious.
Great professor. His lectures are very clear and he incorporates so many examples so if you pay attention, it shouldn't be too difficult. He also has podcasts that are extremely helpful. I skipped a couple of lectures and since there is no textbook, watching those saved me. Exams test how well you know the concepts instead of just definitions.
Easy class & straightforward exams (classic "regurgitation"). There is a fair amount to memorize but it's a simple matter of knowing it. Dr. Miller is a good professor though and his lectures are entertaining. Use the podcasts if you forget details, which you should know. It was an enjoyable class and you'll learn something.
Such an interesting class! If you attend class, pay attention, and take good notes, you'll be fine! Also, go to discussion and take the quizzes and do the homework because that is part of your grade too. Do the extra credit participation too, it's easy and will bump your grade.
I enjoyed his powerpoints - a lot of related videos and examples - funny guy, exams are really tough. No study guide, very specific exam questions.
Miller is a good lecturer overall. Tries to make classes more engaging by using multimedia to simplify learning but at the expense of written down information. Required handbook has most of the slides he uses but almost no diagrams/pictures that were on the slides. Exams are straightforward but contain specific topics that he spent 2 min on.
His lectures make zero sense and you have to study solely from your notes-which probably won't make sense. Also, some of the things he adds to his lectures are really gross and inappropriate. Tests consists of random, unnecessary things. No textbook he just throws whatever he wants into the lectures based off off of his own "research"
Miller packs his interesting lectures with information, but the problem is that all of the remarks that seem to be tangents or helpful examples end up on the exams in specific detail. Online podcasts are a great way to refresh before an exam (basically the same thing as class), but it is time-consuming. Final replaces lowest exam grade if higher
Dr. Miller is the highest rated psych professor on this website. DO NOT BE FOOLED. It's because he's funny and his lectures are entertaining. But he is actually confusing, vague, and expects you to memorize hundreds of terms for his exams of which he'll pick 30 things very specifically to ask you about. Your grade is just 3 very hard exams. Awful.
I only went to the first few lectures. Although, he tells you that the audio files he posted on iTunes are not significant for a good grade, but trust me those are all you needed to do well. (Save time with 2x speed) The topics are not linked, however, it does cover the basic of psych. He uses random experiments to explain his teaching; learn them!
David's the man! The class is not too difficult, as long as you put in a mediocre amount of work. Class is fun to go to, but if you skip class he uploads podcasts which you can watch which basically cover what he says in class. Tests are not too difficult as long as you know the material, and overall I'd say that he's a solid 10/10 guy :D
people always talks about how great he is but eh. his lectures were okay but you can just watch the podcasts, i did better skipping class and listening to them .the tests were hard and even when you think you did well you might not have. he jipped me of my extra credit and sent automated emails saying don't ask about grades...4/10
Everyone always said how easy his class was, but I found it extremely difficult. His lectures are fun and innovative, but I found out at the end of the semester his podcasts are all of his lectures. The tests were pretty much impossible. Without lab and extra credit I would have gotten a D in the class.
He does amazing lectures and knows how to keep your attention but the content is hard. He requires you to buy a book of his slides but it's hard to take notes sometimes on stuff that's not in the book. The lab section of this course was horrible, un-related, and the course is only 3 credits.
Fun to listen to his lectures, but he offers just about the most difficult intro psychology course you can take at UConn. Struggled just to pass despite having taken an equivalent of this course at another school previously.
Miller even says himself that his class is not an easy A. Content is pretty dense and exams contain a lot of specific examples. Lab and extra credit are easy grade boosters. If you do better on the final than other exams, he will replace your lowest exam score with the same score you got on the final. Put the time in and you'll get a fair grade.
Dr. Miller's animal behavior course was very interesting but difficult. The lectures are actually these online movies he makes, it's kinda like planet earth. However, this was the most information out of any class I've taken. I would study for 5 days before the tests. If you put in serious time you'll succeed , but otherwise its a challenge.
Dr. Miller's class was entertaining and really interesting. Class is not easy, material is dense, but if you take good notes and study what he says you'll do fine. He is great and willing to help if you go in for office hours. If you need a refresher before the exam, he posts topics as podcasts. Take Psych 1100 with Dr. Miller if you can!
He is a rough grader, and I literally can't get the points from his lecture. I have no idea about what he expected from us. And the lab and extra credit are useless for th grade.
This was not an easy class. You have to go to class to do well- the exams are super specific to what he covered in class. Extra credit isn't that helpful, but can be good if you're on the edge between two grades.
Don't have to go to class but exams are TOUGH. First C I EVER got. Just try to remember everything and anything he talks about in his videos. Exams are ambiguous. Nice guy and interesting material just hard.
I love david miller so much! if you can take it as an honors conversion all you have to do is show up. It's all video based and when class does meet its important to show up because those notes aren't online. I Took screenshots of video slides and wrote down notes next to them. For his class its helpful to associate info with the picture!
Dr. Miller is a great professor and really helps explain things to students. I found his podcasts to be super helpful! He is amazing, take him!
Prof Miller is a great teacher. His use of technology is amazing and helpful for cool lectures. This class is tough because there's so much material. 2 midterm exams, and 1 final.
The class was a combo of online lectures, and a couple in class lectures. If you watch all of the videos, and attend all of the in person lectures, you will do fine. There is a lot of material, but exams are very fair. Your grade is just your 3 exams, and the final is cumulative, but questions are not very specific/hard.
This class is very lecture heavy and a lot of information, but take advantage of his podcasts after lecture because they will help in reinforcing and understanding the concepts. your grade is based on a few exams, a cumulative final, lab and experimental participation. Be sure to pay attention to examples in lecture, especially his own research!
This class is amazing and Dr. Miller is also an amazing professor. He does an amazing job teaching the material though the exams are very unfair. The questions are extremely specific and based on very small details in lecture. You have to go to lecture too so don't plan on skipping. I learned a lot but I had to put a lot of effort in to studying.
His lectures are very entertaining. You should take time to learn not only the concepts, but also the examples he goes over in class. In the coursebook, he has written out every possible situation so check that. Podcasts are useful. Definitely go to lecture and study!!
Dr. Miller was always very entertaining with his lectures, and I found it significantly easy to pass the exams. If you go to lecture, take notes, review, and attend the weekly supplemental instructions you're in for an easy A.
Love his lectures, you will feel the time goes so fast. The material for final exam is accumulative, 3 exam total. If your final exam's grade is better than any one of your previous exams, you can swap the grade. Oh! The full score of his exam is not 100, it is 51 for the first two, 52 for the final. Anyway, he is the best instructor ever !!
ALL I GOTTA SAY IS DON'T WAIT UNTILL THE LAST MINUTE TO STUDY CAUSE IT DON'T WORK!!!!!!!! Just go to class take notes and study little every week cause its so much info to remember that studying the night before won't work. Other then that you should do fine. The lectures are really interesting and easy to follow
Learned a lot from this class. But this is the worst grade I get, not an easy A class, tons of info. You have to remember EVERYTHING for the exams, otherwise you won't pass. The questions on exams are small details you won't pay attention to. But the professor is super chill!
Miller has fun teaching the class, but this is not an easy class. Have to put in the time and work for exams, which is a primary part of your grade. Exams are based off of everything from his slides, including small insignificant examples. Lab and extra credit opportunities are a huge grade booster. Online lecture podcasts helped for exam prep.
This guy is the bees knees!
Best Professor ever !!!!
