Excellent history prof. Good, organized lecture and fair tests. Great historian.
You learn a lot from him. One of the best professors at MU. Take his class!
All tests come from notes and outlines. Study guide covers all. Great teacher.

Good Teacher, interesting
Take any of his middle eastern classes it is his specialty and he excels in it.
Even if you don't like lectures, his adorable face will get you through. Great preparation for tests.
Slick and manipulative. Scoring of tests highly subjective.

For a man that talks like Norm McDonald, he holds down the knowledge of the middle east! But, Doc, why ya gotta hate on DeX, seems like all I got on you assignments is B's. Why is that? You know I knew it all! high expectations? too high? come
He is knowlegable, however, his essay tests are impossible to pass. You have to know way to much to get a good grade. I would find an easier professor if I were you unless you just love History.

GREAT TEACHER AND VERY HELPFUL WITH THE CAPSTONE CLASS HOPE THAT HE CONTINUES TO TEACH IT FOR STUDENTS THAT HAVE TO TAKE IT IN THE FUTURE. TWO THUMBS UP
Good teacher. Knows his Middle Eastern stuff and teaches objectively. Never slipped with any anti-zionist or pro-zionist propaganda, just the facts. High expectations though, hard to get an A.
If you don't like history, find another professor. His tests require too much preparation with just a small amount on the actual test. Lectures are ok though.
He is a great teacher. He is understanding of students, and will do anything to help.
He was good about understanding when you had problems. I liked his lectures, i though they were interesting. You do have to learn way more than what is on the test, and it is like impossible to get an A, most likely he'll give you a B on everything
It is impossible to adequately prepare for his test. He gives to little information and makes the study guides to broad. But he is an over all nice guy.
Pretty easy. Gives you a study guide for every exam. All exams are essay. His study guides have 4 essay quest. on the test there will be 2 of the 4 and you pick 1. There are 30 ID terms, the test has 7 of them and you pick 4.
He knows alot about what he is teaching, he just doesn't know how to teach it very well. His test are all essay, and his study guides are terrible. Avoid him if possible
The class is pretty straight forward, however he grades really hard and it is impossible to get an A no matter how hards you try on assignments or study.
Hard to get an A. Impossible to get lower than a B if you do your assignments. Study guide for tests give every question that will be on the test.
Very good teacher, and the lectures are interesting. The tests are easy as long as you show up to class and take notes. There are some discussion days, but the majority of the time is spent in lecture.
I liked him, but he was hard. I didn't do well in the class but that was my own fault. He's funny and makes the class enjoyable, plus it doesn't hurt that he's pretty cute. If you're willing to study a lot it wouldn't be too bad.
This is the best professor in the University. Althought he is a professor that demands you know your material, he makes it easy for you to learn it. I would recommend this professor to any student on campus
Not very knowledgeable about the subject at hand, his specialty is supposedly the Middle East. Anyway, he likes to give pop quizzes and anything else that will force you to come to class. The tests are essay and you have reading assignments weekly.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!!!!never ever take him unless you are a glutton for punishment and want to work your butt off and still get a horrible grade. He doesnt know how to convey what hes teaching at all.
Very good professor! Knows his stuff and knows how to teach it. Essay tests are fairly easy b/c they come from the notes you take in class. You have to put forth effort, but you will learn SO much! The HST Dept needs more professors like him!
I enjoyed his class and learned a lot. Just be prepared to study and take good notes. However, he's kind of hesitant on giving A's.
I have had him for several classes and I like the way he teaches. He is funny and he makes it fun. There are a lot of notes, but everything on the tests come from that. I would recommend him.
He is GREAT teacher. He has a great knowledge of what he is lecturing on and is one the best teachers I have encountered as far as lecture settings are conserned. He cares about his students and what he teaches them.
Great teacher. Knows his stuff. Take him!! However he does grade hard.
He is a great professor! He really wants you to do well in his class! He tells you what will be on the tests! You do have to read 3 novels and write critical analysis's on them and he gives a few quizzes but he is very fair on grading!
Great professor, nows the material well, he always picks very interesting books to read, he does grade hard, but if you work hard you will get a good grade
Great professor. Knows a lot about what he is teaching. Tests can be difficult if you don't study. Likes to give a lot of writing assignments and his tests are mostly essays.
I love this professor! He is very interesting, funny, and gives great lectures. Test come from lecture notes, and are essay type. Not too bad, but does grade a little bit hard. Take him if possible!
Definitely an essay A. Gives great lectures, easy tests, and even gives extra credit; but why would you possibly need it?
Great teacher. He explains things well and has interesting classes. He actually seems to enjoy teaching. He always makes jokes in class, too. I definitely recommend this teacher.
Great Professor! His lectures are fantastic! Very interesting speaker, and knows the material extremely well! Very willing to help too. Does grade a little tough, but overall an excellent instructor! Take his class if possible!
this was fun but only if your major is history or for those of you interested in the subject. very helpful and willing to go the extra mile. very motivated professor and provides a enthusiastic learning environmetn. take him if you can.
I love Dr. Mills! Awesome personality, classes are fun, so knowledgeable about his area of expertise (the Middle East). he grades hard but he grades fair. great sense of humor. gets the class involved and lets you speak your opinion. i would recommend him to anyone who truly wants to learn.
Daily attendance is a must or you will miss critical lecture information. Every Friday there is a group disscussion with a True / False Quiz. All exams are in an essay format. So, come to class prepared to do a lot of writing. Easy A if you are willing to put forth the effort.
Attendance is a must to get lecture information because he doesn't give it all on the outlines on vista. Discussion session can be a pain but it's not too bad, just remember to speak up on occasion for a decent participation grade at the end of the course.
Passionate with a cognizant understanding of his field; tough to get above the 93-95 grade range, but if you do consistently good work you've nothing to worry about. Attendance and adhering to paper/exam guidelines are musts for a good grade.
Wow! I have never enjoyed learning about History than I have in this dude's class. Not just randomely memorzing dates and names, you actually learn and know about what happened! You must do the assigned readings and attend lectures to do well, don't forget to participate! Take good notes. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!
I love this Porfessor he grades fairly easy as long as you go to class and do the readings, when it comes to his test it seems like he give too much info on study guides but other than that he is great.. I would love to have him for another class...
alot of material to cover
Hes an awesome teacher. So funny.Kinda spaces out sometimes but its hillarius.Definitely take him!He rules.Grades pretty good and everything is fun except for the discussions, theyre okay. But take.Hes a rad teacher! And pretty cute for an older fella = )
He was a great teacher. He is hilarious and I loved his class! I would definitely recommend him to anyone!
He is a good professor, i enjoyed his class. He does seem to space out sometimes, but he's a nice guy, i would def. take him again. be prepared to cover alot of material, go to class, he covers alot of stuff that isn't on the outlines, and read the book, and understand it because you will be called on at least once.
He is very nice.Be sure to go to class. Study moderatly for his tests. Do the readings for the reading quizes. If you do all of these things you should get a good grade, I worked a quite a bit but a I got an A. You could work a little and get a B.
He is the absolutely great teacher, before his class I had no intrest in history, but after his class I love History now. He also, has good jokes!!hahaha
One of the most intriquing professors I have ever met. For students looking for inspiration and a sense of challenge, look no further.
Great instructor, take him if you can even if you just need a free elective. His lectures are exactly the tests, and study guides are amazing, you'll pass without any problem if you are able to just go to class and stay awake. Good choice as a beginning instructor.
He's definitely the best History teacher at Marshall... It wasn't the easiest class, but definitely not the hardest. He funny at times... a lil boring at time too... He's a good teacher. Oh and he likes basketball. lol
Great professor. He's willing to help. You do have to study quite a bit for his exams, but you have all of the questions beforehand. He's funny too. I'm not too interested in the topics of this class, but I don't dread going to class. Definitely recommended.
He is a really good prof., not as hard as people said.I took his class with a kid at home who was just learning to walk and I got an A. . .this is college, you have to read, but he gives you all the info in lecture.
Great professor! Tests are essays but not difficult if you study. All material is covered in lecture notes. Has good personality-funny!
Pretty easy class if you study. Tests are straight from study guide but problem is he gives you 5 essays and only 2 will be on the test and he'll give you 50 terms and 10 will be matching and 2 will be id terms. You have to learn a lot more for the tests then you will actually have to answer, but the extra terms can help you on the essay
Dr. Mills is a great instructor and always cares about how you're doing in class.
He is a great teacher. Sometimes lectures are boring, but he tries to make them interesting. He's very helpful and wants everyone to pass. He will learn your name quickly. Attendance not mandatory, but if you don't come you will miss important stuff for the test. You have to know a lot more material for the test than what is there. Good teacher.
Excellent! Humerous and very good prof. Lots of notes. Tests are mostly essay, so you need to study, but he grades very fair. I had him three times and is one of the two (Gould) history profs I would ever take again.
Reading the textbook is essential, and map quizzes are intended to be pretty challening..
Awesome guy! Means super well for everyone and is always "fair enough." Talks about being called "slick and manipulative" in a evaluation a lot. I think it made him sad. :( Gives study guides that are the essentially the test. Has two required readings a week but, only one is quizzed on and all quizzes are online. Would take again if possible!
Class is mainly lecture. Be prepared to take tons of notes and you will need them. The weekly quiz and discussion aren't too bad. Just be sure to do them. Tests will come from the study guide. He is a tough essay grader so make sure to include lots of detail and information. He was a nice guy and I would recommend him.
Took this class online. To me it was a noninteresting class but had to take it for an international credit. Test were kinda hard. Alot or reading and a book report.
Excellent class. Excellent prof. Mills makes history interesting and entertaining. He knows his stuff and is willing to help his students. Tests were primarily essay based. Attendance is mandatory b/c of the info covered in class.
Dr. Mills was a wonderful teacher, and his class was a great one. I would reccommend him to anyone that sees this because you will get a lot out of this class.
It didn't really feel like a 400-level history class. He tells you upfront what he wants in the papers, but the exams are hard to study for. You may study 30 terms and then only write about 2 or 3 on the exam. Pretty relaxed grading, though. Definitely worth taking.
Gives you a study guide for tests with terms and essays which he then uses for his test. Tests are one essay from a choice of 2, 2 ID terms from a list of 4 or 5, and 10 matching. The essay choices and terms are on the study guide. Weekly reading quizzes and journal entries. Lectures are clear and easy to follow. He's just a tough grader.
Mills is the man! Take him for any HST class! He's so laid-back and easy to get along with. Will go out of his way to help you too. Arab-Israeli Conflict was interesting. Tests are hard though. 30 identification terms to study for but only 3 on exam. 1 longer essay question also on exam. Gives study guides. Also gives point for discussion days also
Dr. Mills made me love history. He's a fun guy and he tries to make the class worth your time. You come to class, you take notes, and you do a journal/quiz every week. The study guides for all the tests are online at the beginning of the semester. He grades tough sometimes but if you do the small easy assignments, then bad test grades won't hurt.
Online summer class. Really straightforward. Read the introductions to the chapters he posts, read the chapters in the textbook for each unit, then do a quiz and map quiz which are for extra credit. Two test, essay, short answer, multiple choice. They're mildly hard. Discussions are easy and interesting. One easy paper analyzing a novel. Good class
Great teacher. His class is really straight forward and lets you know exactly what you need to focus on before the exam. He does his exams in essay form which makes them pretty difficult. He makes his class funny and interesting. Great personality and he's really interested in your well being-- all you have to do is your part.
Great teacher. He knows most people take history to fulfill the requirement or get an easy A, but he makes it worth your while. Fun teacher, knows his stuff. You need the small book for reading quizzes, but the big book i never used. You can ace every test from lectures. But you MUST get the small book for the quizzes.
This is the second time I've had Dr. Mills, and he is a great professor. Go to class and take good notes and you'll do great on his tests. He also does extra credit activities in class sometimes. The critical analyses of the books are the hardest part and he grades them pretty tough, so it is to your best interest to actually read the books.
Lectures can be very boring and long. Does some class discussions. If you read your weekly chapters out of textbooks (yes, you use your textbook a lot during this course) read and take notes you will get an A in his class.
A pretty nice guy, good style and is fun to attend. He's not that boring and is pretty funny sometimes. He only uses one book for journals and the other one is good if you miss a class. Not that hard if you do the work. Highly recommended for anyone.
Best history professor at Marshall. His powerpoints give you everything you need to do well on the tests and as long as you mention the book you will get good grades on your discussions, very thorough.
VERY boering!!! Long lectures that make the day go by slow!!! Never really have to go to class cause everything he teaches is online plus most grades besides exams are all online.
Lectures are boring and the quiz and journal entires due every week suck but he gives study guides for every exam so as long as you study what's on the study guide, you'll do fine. Some extra credit points, maybe a total of 10. Only 2 exams and a final. Really nice guy.
His class is him standing up with a powerpoint and lecturing the entire class. He is sometimes hard to follow. He posts everything online including study guides. You don't even have to go to class. Just do the online quizzes and journals every week and show up for the tests, and you will pass. I would just buy the Reilly textbook.
Mills is a hilarious man! He is very personable and makes it easy to have a good student teacher relationship. He is a tough grader and expects you to know the details when it comes to essays and analysis. He does give several extra credit chances which helps. Overall there's about two book reports and three tests! I suggest taking him!
Mills is an overall funny guy and he seems sincere on wanting the students to learn. The thing I didn't like about the class was that he put a big emphasis on the middle eastern/African countries, even though the class was World History. Both the books he assigned us to read were on the Congo and 3 brothers from Israel. Wouldn't take him again.
Definitely not the worst professor I've ever had, but definitely not the best. If we're being honest, I rarely came to class and ended up with a B. I did awesome on the 2 papers, so that probably helped. Listening to him gets pretty boring and he keeps you the entire class period.
His class is fun and interesting. He gives everything needed for the test in class and makes the class fun while doing it.
Professor Mills is an OKAY teacher. Personally he is a great guy and makes class fun, but he gets so off track he doesn't remember what he was teaching and neither do I. I would only recommend him if history was your STRONGEST subject.
Very interesting class. Mills knows a lot about the subject material, and despite the class being a little dry and lecture heavy, he finds a way to keep students engaged. He's very laid back and has a great personality. He's a hard grader when it comes to essays, but he's overall and enjoyable to have in class. Best history professor at Marshall.
Must read 2 books and write critical analyses on both. Only 3 tests (including the final). Goes fast on lectures. Must write pretty detailed notes to get good grades.
Dr. Mills is an amazing professor. Loves what he teaches, makes class entertaining, and is willing to help however he can. You won't pass if you don't go though
Dr. Mills is a genuinely nice guy who loves to talk about history. His lectures are very informative, and there is not much homework outside of class. However, your grade in his class is based on three exams and a few quizzes. If you study for his exams, you will get a good grade.
Dr Mills is one of the more traditional professors and is very professional. Kind of funny at times if you like dry humor.
