This guy is the most annoying professor I've ever had. He lectures literally just to hear his own voice, nothing he says in class is remotely useful or relevant, yet he requires attendance and only lets you miss TWO days before he penalizes your grade. He makes a 101 class 10x more difficult than it needs to be. Tests are so hard. Avoid him.
This dude is literally in love with the guy that wrote the textbook. The only way to pass this class is if you read every page of the book because his lectures are so pointless. You will learn absolutely nothing in class but somehow he will be talking the entire time. Also his voice sounds just like Pleakly from Lilo and Stitch.
Unless you want to spend almost all your time reading the textbook cover to cover (in addition to writing thorough notes and looking over SO many powerpoints) I would suggest you don't have a class with him. He is so incredibly hard for an introductory level class and your grade is based primarily on your test grades and a few quizzes. DON'T DO IT!
The single thing that matters in his class are the tests. The questions are often something he mentioned once, in his over an hour long lecture, and expects you to have in your memory. He talks the entire class with few to no words on the PowerPoints. He offers no extra credit and complains about how many students he has. Avoid forrealllllll
Spends the majority of the lecture talking about things that won't be on the test. The "study guides" he gives are completely useless. Vague project rubric & very tough grading with no explanation, unhelpful & condescending responses when questioned. His course made me reconsider my Journalism major choice. Take him if you want to hate journalism.
He definitely has a strong personality, which makes the class a little more exciting. Do not, I repeat, do NOT take this class if you are a poor test taker. This entire class is based off of your test taking ability, and his tests are insanely hard.
Professor Moscowitz tries to make class more interesting, but is over-dramatic and annoying. He uses very large words like liminality and recalcitrance on his tests and lectures and doesn't explain what they mean. Attendance is mandatory and the large group project of the class is not well explained.
I think Dr. Moscowitz is a really good man and is very passionate about what he does, however for a 101 class, the tests should not be so difficult. All of my friends got easy A's in their 101 classes and I am struggling for a B. He will call you out in class if you aren't paying attention and will teach until the last second. Nice man but too hard
I absolutely hate this class. He lectures the entire time on POINTLESS things that are not even remotely in our textbook or on the test. He's obsessed with our textbook but only puts random quotes from online and memes in his lectures. His tests are abnormally hard. Group project information is extremely vague. Never again.
His class is extremely hard for an INTRODUCTORY course. He is very lecture heavy and rambles on about random things that have nothing to do with the course or the things that will be on the test. The whole class also revolves around the textbook as he refers to "Potter" the entire class. Group project isn't explained well and is graded by the TA.
I'm planning to take him for another class in spring. It's not a blowoff class, but very doable. Lectures both add to and explain the textbook and review previous chapters which has been helpful for me. Learned a lot; eager for more.
Feel like this is way too hard for a 101 course. His lectures are boring and his study guides and powerpoints are useless. Avoid if possible.
If you don't read and outline the chapters, you will not understand what is going on. Outline every chapter and pay attention in class because he does test you on things that are not in the book. Put in the work and you'll be alright but he is not caring at all and there are no excuses for late work
not to be dramatic but this professor is literally the worst i've ever had. lectures teach you nothing, powerpoints are useless, & tests are written like they should be for harvard graduate students. take his class if you wanna wreck your GPA on a 101 level course & learn absolutely nothing & sit in mandatory lectures where he rambles about nothing
Wow, I just read the last few comments and I think he's very caring! He was so considerate when I got sick after fall break!! I'm going to miss this class. I've worked hard and am getting an A. His lectures and powerpoints are so helpful, and he has different ways to earn extra credit. I've loved this class!
I loved this professor! The tests can be kind of tricky sometimes but as long as you complete the study guide and pay attention in class you should be fine. Lecture heavy, but he makes it fun. Very friendly guy always willing to help. Challenging but very rewarding!
Hands down, my favorite and also best class this semester. I learned so much. The class is well organized and Dr. Moscowitz met with me several times outside of office hours. I plan to take him for more classes. Sealed my choice to go SJMC.
Awesome class, better than I thought it would be. Easy to follow and he's really helpful. He posts the powerpoints, which helped me remember what was covered in class.
I came to every single class a good grade. He's a great guy and makes his lectures fun with outside real world media examples. His study guides follow his powerpoints and ARE helpful. Never bought the book but rented it from the library so had very limited access to it but got a good grade in the class. he's a genuine guy. I'm glad I took his class
Tough, but participate, get things done on time and take notes off of powerpoints/lectures and you'll do fine. Tests were tricky but bearable. Very strict with attendance but you get extra credit of you don't miss any classes. All tests/the final have study guides that were really helpful.
Loved this class and really want to take more classes from Dr. M. Very fair and patient. Not a hard class if you take notes.
Super vague and kind of expects you to already know most of the things he talks about. He gives study guides but they are absolutely no help. Take another Prof. for J101 of you can.
He is super vague in his grading of our group project. We might not have gotten a B if he had explained what he wanted from us. He lectures a lot but it seems so pointless. I went into the class thinking I knew what media and literacy are, but after the class I have no idea. I'm a journalism major. This is a problem.
This class was great. Everything is super clear (group project description is two full pages and breaks down the points, and powerpoints are organized clearly too). I appreciated how he applied the concepts to current issues in the news and media (mass and niche). Great class.
I thought I'd hate this class, but Dr. Moscowitz makes it interesting and relevant to all the majors in the J school. Most exam questions come from class and powerpoints. Not a blow-off, but very doable class.
Dr. Moscowitz is an excellent professor if you actually want to learn things in the class and not just get by with the bare minimum. He uses real-life examples to boost class discussion and will look over your tests with you and give you great feedback. All journalism majors should choose him; he's given me a strong foundation in only one class!!
This was my favorite class of the semester. Also the most relevant. Dr. M keeps everything really timely, and he's really helpful outside of class.
Dr. Moscowitz means well but his class is way harder than a 101 should be. His lectures can get confusing because he frequently alternates between the textbook and his own personal notes. This makes it hard to prepare for the exams, which are really tough. Remember small details if you want to pass.
I learned so much in this class, and I'd take it again in a second. It's a class I liked going to. Wasn't as easy as I thought it would be, but fair and clear. Go to class, keep up, and your grade will be fine.
I wish more of my classes and teachers were like this. Dr. M. was always available to meet with me before class and in his office and the class is really easy to follow. A lot of material, but I learned so much. I loved going to class, too--really interesting and timely stuff.
Lectures are a complete waste of time, he uses class time to talk about irrelevant pop culture that has nothing to do with the content of the class, but yet the tests are SO hard and have nothing to do with what was covered in class. He is extremely arrogant. I got a C and I usually make straight A's. I worked so hard and still did awfully.
He spends the whole class ranting about irrelevant things and then gives tests that have NOTHING to do with what he talked about and are extremely hard. I made a C in this class and I ALWAYS make good grades. Don't take it if you don't have to!!!
Great professor and good class. I was surprised by how often he made topics that seemed boring into learning something interesting and current. I'll take him again next chance I get.
Speech with Moscowitz is a great choice. He makes a pretty uninteresting topic fun and you can do your speeches on any topic you can imagine. He uses a lot of great examples and really cares about you, take him!
If you work hard and take good notes, you can get an A. Lectures are painfully boring but make sure you go bc he gave everyone with perfect attendance extra credit and I wouldn't have gotten an A without it
I loved the lectures, and he's great to work with, very easy to talk to or make time for you. Many extra credit opportunities. Great class!
You have to go, but that's ok because he keeps the material really current. Some topics that I thought would be boring were not. I was on the fence but this class made me decide to pick mass comm as my major. Nice guy, too.
Attendance is taken each class. Lectures are somewhat interesting but he puts power points online but they don't contain a lot of notes. Tests are easy if you review notes and study a little bit. A few times online quizzes but are easy if you read the chapter, but you can use your book during them.
Wasn't sure what to expect and heard that 101 is boring, but I liked it. Dr. M tries (tries) to have us discuss and seems really open to our take. Energetic guy, good guy.
He's really great, I don't get some of these comments. 101 might not be an easy A, but it's not hard or too much work. And Dr M is a great professor--loved his lectures and he's really open to what we think (and ask).
flat out awful experience in this class in every way
This is my favorite class. I like how he helps you organize the material to better get it. He's really helpful and makes the class interesting.
Going to class isn't mandatory, but I definitely don't recommend skipping. He started this semester using iClicker and he asks questions throughout, so even thought he doesn't take attendance he uses iClicker as extra credit. So go to class, take notes on his powerpoints and read and take notes from the book because quizzes and tests are open notes
He's HILARIOUS and chill. Attendance isn't mandatory but he does several iClicker questions each class which are apart of your grade. One group project. He posts the Powerpoints before the exam so you can go back and reference them during exams (which are on Blackboard). Quizzes also on BB and are straight from the book. Ended course with 102%
Great class. The powerpoints are helpful for keeping everything organized, and he's always updating them. He'd put in links to stories from the week before to keep things recent. I put mandatory for attendance because you have to be there to get clicker points, but he doesn't take attendance.
Dr. Moscowitz is such a great professor! He tried to make even the boring topics interesting and goes out of his way to help his students out. The tests are online, open note, and you don't have to take them in class. Need I say more? Overall, a really kind and intelligent guy would love to take this class again.
Good class and really good professor. Dr. M is easy to talk to and ask questions and clearly enjoys what he's doing. Clear assignments and material, though a bit more than I expected for a 101. I want to take another class with him.
I took this class last year and it really does prepare you for other classes in journalism. He's a good professor (lots of energy if you like that) and works to make things easy to understand--stop him and ask and he's happy to explain something in a different way. Great real-world examples, too.
Has good grading criteria with quizzes, project and an essay as well as the exams so that gives you the potential do really well. His lectures aren't informative. Attendance is not mandatory and honestly don't see why one must go, if you read the chapter he taught that day, it'll be more productive than his class. Is not available outside class.
Hes really chill and explains topics well. All the exams are online and there is a group project
Good professor, he's always accessible outside of class even when he's about to leave for the day. Gets excited during lectures, although they can be boring. Attendance isn't mandatory but takes clicker points for extra credit.
Really treats every lecture like it is exciting and informative, which is good. He manages to stay positive and upbeat during lectures even when it's obvious people are not paying attention. He is a good professor and the class itself is not too difficult at all.
This guy is such a nice and sweet person. He has really interesting perspectives. Overall, his class was cool material wise. However, if youre not a fast reader, the tests and quizzes can be difficult. The tests are timed online so it was hard for me not to be overwhelmed because he gives 60 minutes for 50 questions. P.S. he never stops talking.
Easiest A at UofSC. Quizzes are timed but you can quizlet most of the answers. I never read and just took notes during class. He never stops talking and we do use iclicker for points and then for extra credit but overall he means well and encourages the class to dive deeper into journalism. Does assign a group project but is extremely easy.
Dr. Moscowitz is an inspring professor. He mainly focuses on what is media and how it relates to our society. Although he is an energetic teacher, the class can be a little boring. However, there are extra credit opportunities along with I clicker points.
Do not take unless you want unnecessarily hard work for very basic concepts. Drags concepts out way deeper than they really are, quizzes are extremely hard, overall way too much for a 101 class
tells students not to email him, so we post in the course cafe, and gives a wise-guy reply each time. Annoying. Honestly I 'm glad I took this class online like I did, rather than go to actual class. The tests are difficult because some of the questions are unclear, but quizlet helps. The content isn't hard but I feel like he tries to make it hard.
Dr. Moscowitz is engaging and I recommend him. The only thing is his powerpoints tend to be kinda unclear as to what you should write down. However kids listen up because this is the best part. Everything including the final is open notes! Uses iClicker for extra credit but doesn't take attendance. Don't skip too much though, I learned that lesson.
Exam questions were a bit hard, but every test is open note and online so Quizlet and study guides really help. The group project is pretty easy. Very dry lecture slides, but chapter quizzes were straightfoward. Rent the textbook online.
This online class was harder than expected considering it is a 100 level class. You have to study and read for tests and quizzes, as you have a really short amount of time to finish them. Also you have a group project (even though it's an online class). Workload wasn't too demanding though. Due dates every 1.5-2 weeks.
I thought that I was taking an introductory speech class. He expects perfect speeches every single time and it was almost impossible to get an A unless you had prior experience in competitive speaking. The final had absolutely nothing to do with our class. The material is much more complex than necessary for an intro. take regular speech
not sure why he had mixed reviews, he's a cool guy who knows a lot and its not a hard class. attendance isnt mandatory but he does clicker questions everyday for "extra credit". bi-weekly quizzes that use the textbook, usually very easy and can find on quizlet. exams are a bit harder but theyre online and you can still get an A. one group project
nice guy and class isnt as bad as people say. attendance isnt mandatory but iclicker points if you go. easy online quizzes and the answers are on quizlet. exams are a little hard though. theyre online but you really have to have good lecture notes. one group project that isnt hard
Moscowitz is a good teacher. He really cares about the material. He gives you two weeks to do each online module which is plenty of time. The quizzes each week are pretty easy and so are the tests, as long as you review your stuff prior. Be sure to work hard on the group project because that is a bulk of the grade.
This guy sucks. He is very mean to students and offers no help. When I asked a question he told me I was annoying and to stop. He doesnt have empathy or care about his students just wants to get paid.
For this to be an introductory class I really wasn't expecting it to be as hard as it was, but I can say that I really learned the material so much better than I would have with another prof. Dr. Moscowitz knows his stuff for sure. Also, be prepared to teach yourself some things and READ THE TEXTBOOK. He's also fairly lenient.
Not gonna lie, he was annoying and made the class way more work than need be. Not only do you have to read the 20-30 page chapters but listen to the 20-30 minute chapter powerpoints that alone take 20 minutes to upload because he uploads them in parts. Its extremely inconvenient class and I typically dont mind a bit of moderate workload.
Moscowitz is a bad professor that rambles and his notes have nothing to do with either the exams. The book has all the information that you need, Moscowitz is one of the worst professors in the Journalism department.
Taking 101 online with him was honestly easy. The most work I did was the group project. He does ramble way too much in his lectures but if you take good notes the tests will be easy. I don't think he deserves some of the low ratings he has on here. He gives clear instructions and is passionate about what he teaches. Overall an easy A.
He is by far one of the most self-involved professors I have ever had. Not only did he brag about students failing his class he went so far as to suggest that if you work full time you have no business being in college. He seems more concerned with hearing himself talk than actually teaching. Avoid him.
Sounds kinda snobby, an insanely easy class to pass if attendance is not mandatory, all information can be selectively skimmed through for assignments and studied before tests.
This was my best online class because he's clear and specific. I liked the PowerPoints usually and how he would go over the textbook but also update it and make it relevant. I want to take a smaller class with him.
He definitely uses the book and covers other topics that are recent and timely which I liked and made more interesting. He does First Fridays at he Journalism school which are nice to have when you take the course online.
Dr. M offers a great introduction to studying media. It's not just journalism but other types like advertising and entertainment too. This class clinched my choice to major in SJMC. Not a hard class either.
Dr. Moscowitz is why I became a journalism major. He makes this class relevant to everybody's interests and I can't wait to take him again for something else. Very doable class. Exam questions are from his notes and powerpoints and they're open book.
I'm feeling better about graduating thanks to this class. He's really encouraging and supportive and easy to arrange for one on one conversations. You complete the work based on your own goals and plans and there are no tests. Good stuff.
Class is very easy as long as you pay attention during lectures and do the work . There were at lot of discussion posts, quizzes, one essay, a group project and 3 exams.
I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews about Prof. Moscowitz. I had him for JOUR101 and JOUR515 and loved him both times. The book was kinda boring for 515, but he was always enthusiastic about class and was a great teacher.
The worst and most non sympathetic teacher I have had in my entire life. Seemed to be very uninterested in actually having students pass his class and joked about how kids have failed it. He was also very self centered, snobby, and rude. Please for your own sake, do not enroll in this mans class.
Took Moscowitz for JOUR 101 and I totally recommend him! grading for the class is based on 3 exams, many reading quizzes, and discussion boards, as well as one group project. Although the content of the course can drag, Moscowitz is very passionate about his course and teaches in a very engaging way. Lots of reading, & attendance isn't required.
Moscowitz is very enthusiastic about this class. He has great energy when lecturing. Although this class is a little boring he tries to not make it too bad. There are a lot of reading quizzes and discussion boards but he gives extra credit on the discussion boards. There are a lot of chances for gaining points in this class. 3 exams 1 group project
I'm a journalism major and this class was hard for me to take and sit through. The work was not necessarily difficult but during class I was bored out of my mind. Moscowitz rambles on and on and disregards people with questions. Tests were kind of straight from the textbook, but some questions were very specific to things he says only in class.
This professor is nice and has very well organized PowerPoints. You do need the textbook because the readings help you with the quizzes. He is an open book open notes professor on the test/quizzes. I highly recommend you showing up to class to take the notes because if not you won't pass the exams.
The class is not too much work. There is a group project that is not graded that hard. The test can be rather difficult as he seems to focus on minuscule topics rather then the bigger picture. Chapter quizzes are difficult. I closely read the chapters and still struggled on the quizzes. Overall, a tough professor. I would not take again.
Didn't go to class often and got a good grade. Tests and quizzes are open book/note so if you take notes on chapters you should be fine! His lectures are boring and pointless(hence why I didn't go but some people not doing well after skipping a lot so beware of it) but he's not a horrible teacher. Group project sucks tho. TA's do his work for him
His lectures are very boring, but you kind of need them for the quizzes and exams. All tests are open book, but applied concepts and ideas taken more from his lectures than the textbook. You need the textbook, but you have to really understand the information to answer the types of questions he asks
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR JOUR101. Maybe in-person is different but this is an entry level course. The rest of my courses are 300-400's and this was my hardest class. Just finished my final to jump on here. The lectures are crazy long online and gives way too much un-important information. His exam questions change every year and are very difficult.
Moscowitz is very funny and understanding. Very understanding and relatable. We have chapter quizzes and exams but they are all open note/open book. Attendance is not mandatory but stay on top of your content and the lecture notes. Class is large but they are TA's to assist and speak with you outside of the course. Everyone was super nice.
Took the class async online. Used a very weird format for lectures as he embedded audio into powerpoints? So you're stuck downloading a ton of tiny powerpoints. Tends to ramble but as long as you watch the lectures and take notes you should get an easy A.
Super easy course. Most people don't show up to class however I do. I show up and easily have an A. You are suppose to read the textbook and I did for majority of the semester but you would do fine without it. Test and quizzes are online so they are super easy. Discussion board every week takes like 5 minutes. He is a great guy, be involved.
Be prepared to read about information that does not relate to the e-Portfolio. The assignments are not too bad and he grades well but they are time consuming. You cannot use your laptop in class. BE ON TIME & DON'T MISS CLASS. He is strict on attendance and will take points off your total grade if you are a few minutes late.
This class was better than I expected. Dr. Moscowitz can be a great and caring professor. The only down side is you can't use your laptop while in class. Overall the course was interesting but the mid-term exam is more a general in-person style. Be prepare to read and write response papers, along with a group project.
I took the eight week course. There was weekly modules with discussion boards and quizzes. This took about 12 hours honestly. Reading textbook and taking notes is very important. 3 exams which were fairly easy if you read and one group project. If you do the work he suggests you will pass. Definitely worth the time in the end to make a 94
I really didn't know what to expect going in but am so glad I had this class. Dr. M really opened my eyes to media representations.
Great preparation for graduating. Wasn't as overwhelming as I thought it would be. Dr. M really works to meet you at your level, which I appreciated.
Dr. M is great--he keeps you going in a big lecture hall with masks on! He's got great energy and applies the material to current events. I can't wait to take him for other classes. (Also, I think attendance usually counts, but he didn't take attendance my semester because of covid.)
As an online class, I would not recommend, as it was difficult to follow and understand.
Dr. M is very lecture heavy, but they are very interesting. Take notes. We have open note exams and quizzes. He doesn't announce when quizzes are, but it's in the syllabus. Always check blackboard if one has opened. He is very personable and funny. Read the textbook, a lot of the content in it is on the exams.
DONT TAKE ONLINE. I do very well with asynchronous classes, but this one is nearly impossible to get an A. His PowerPoints have embedded audios that take 5 hours to every week to listen to. I would use my notes, the online textbook, and the internet for the exams and never could make an A. Youre not allowed to email him about grades.
Dr. Moscowitz was very funny and friendly, but I will say that his class is what you make It. He does not require attendance but I would definitely attend as many as possible. Exams aren't hard as long as you take notes in class, questions come straight from textbook and lectures and they are all open notes. Just keep up with your work.
I really loved Dr. Moscowitz's class. His lectures were so entertaining, and he made sure to keep them fun and upbeat. Also for a large lecture class, I appreciated how he engaged a lot with individual students during lectures and discussions. Would absolutely take this class again.
Everything he tested/quizzed on was either from his lectures or in the textbook and everything was taken online so just look it up if you really don't have it. As long as you go to class and barely skim through the book you'll be set. 1 Group project but it wasn't hard. Super easy grader on discussion boards and gives extra credit a couple times.
Moscowitz is overall an okay professor, but his lectures are extremely boring and hard to sit through. Many people skip his class. He also assigns a group project, yet basically provided groups with no direction on what the actual project should look like or consist of. Overall the class was pretty easy.
This class sucks, and he makes what should be an easy class unnecessarily difficult with long-winded assignment descriptions filled with random highlights, underlines, and different font colors. For discussion boards, instead of just including the question we need to answer, he writes, "Prompt is located in __ Power point," which leads to textbook
Hated this professor, he never answers emails and doesn't give clear instructions. He is very boring to listen to in class and everyone usually skips his class because of how boring it is. He refuses to answer questions unless its after class, and refuses to help kids over email, he says "see syllabus"
Quizzes and discussion boards every week. Tests caused so much stress because I didn't study much for them but if you study they will be a breeze. I got the textbook but didn't use it. Only an 8 week class which was nice.
I was unsure of what to expect in this class. Dr.Moscowitz is a caring professor that wants to see you succeed. Exams are in person, on paper. Attendance matters! There is 1 group project that you will have to present to class. He goes over all material very well and helps you understand it. There is quite a bit of writing on response papers.
Entry level course but he makes lectures engaging. I'd stay organized because the reading quizzes were hard to keep up with in my opinion. I missed 4 of them because I didn't stay on top of the due dates. The quizzes are due before the start of class. The exams aren't bad and there's one group project but it was a blast and you choose the topic.
He doesn't take attendance but I would recommend going to class and take notes!!! Exams are open note so it's very helpful. Very easy and light-hearted class.
The main issue with Dr. Moscowitz is his communication. He often does not say (or seem to know) when assignments are due and deflects any question to his many TAs. He comes off as very unprofessional and seems to care more about his higher level courses than the entry level courses. Group project required for class was manageable.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. In the most simple form, David was a terrible professor. From not answering any of his emails AT ALL, to boring lectures in which he teaches nonsense that has nothing to do with the test questions, he is a horrible professor and genuinely I don't know how he still has a job.
His lectures are interesting but long, and all of his material is on Blackboard. Exams are open note, but really short on time. He doesn't answer emails, and I'm not convinced he graded/looked at any of our assignments himself, only the TA's. Make sure to keep up with the syllabus schedule because he doesn't often warn you about due dates.
I only got a D because I missed the final on accident. Anywho, he is a cool guy, knows what he is talking about, and funny. The class was not too hard, was not too easy. Just average.
Moscowitz is a very caring professor. He really wants his students to do well, do not be afraid to talk to him. This class will be a breeze if you do the work and show up to class. Exams for me were not difficult, and the final exam ended up being optional. You will also watch some classic movies. 100% recommend taking Dr. Moscowitz.
I took this class for my minor and it ended up being one of the most difficult courses I have taken, especially for a 101 class. Considered chaning my minor... His tests are extremely difficult and his lecture videos are so long and monotone. If it wasn't for extra credit and discussion boards I would have gotten a C. Short time for tests and quiz.
This is the second class I took with Dr. Moscowitz and he's awesome. He does what he can to not make students pay for the textbook. There are 3 discussions, 2 midterms, and one optional final and discussion. There's also a discussion moderation that's basically a group-led class discussion. If you try, you'll get an A. He's a super lenient grader.
This class is all lectures. The quizzes and discussion boards are easy grade boosters. Everything is open note/resources, however, the exams are pretty difficult. Professor Moscowitz is relatively engaging and funny. He makes it very apparent that he would rather you reach out to the TA for help as opposed to reaching out to him.
This professor was very interesting, I didn't necessarily enjoy his class because the lectures were boring. Do not fall behind in the class because you will regret it. The exams and quizzes are very difficult so make sure you know the information.
This class is what you make It. He does not require attendance but I would definitely attend as many lectures as possible. Exams aren't hard as long as you take notes in class, questions come straight from textbook and lectures and they are all open notes. Stay organized because it's easy to fall behind if you don't.
I really enjoyed this class. Moscowitz is very knowledgeable about his lectures. The classes can be slightly boring sometimes but if you elaborate on his bullet points slightly in your notes, you will make a very good grade. Get the textbook, the quiz questions are directly from there.
Nice professor, just more dull lectures, feels extremely slow-paced. Is very specific to class guidelines and sticks to it. Look at the syllabus carefully because he will not flex or make any exceptions
Mr. Moscowitz himself is a very charismatic and caring professor. The material can be confusing at times, and there are a lot of terms you need to know to make it through the class. You'll also need to read a lot, which I was not a big fan of, but you also get to watch some good movies.
This class was absolutely ridiculous. You are graded on 3 quizzes that are insanely specific and only have a time limit of 30 minutes. I have taken Dr. M two semesters in a row and he was my only B both times. Not helpful whatsoever and everyone in the groupme was VERY confused on what was going on. Do not take him because I should have had an A.
This was my second class with Dr. Moscowitz and it was harder than I thought it would be. But I'll take him again because he's really invested in your success. He was responsive when we'd raise concerns and cares about how you do if you show you're putting in the work. One of my favorites in the J-school.
The lectures can be a bit dry, but the class isn't too difficult if you stay on top of the material. Using Unstuck ai along with the textbook helps a lot for exam prep.
He was an amazing first journalism professor
