Dr. Nachman is willing to help any student that is willing to put in the time. He takes Chemistry very serious and if you are a serious student you will do well.
Not recommended
such a nice teacher. was really understanding if you didnt get the material. it was a harder class than i thought it was going to be.
hard class but really easy labs
Dr. Nachman is a really knowledgeable guy, and presents all the info in the class in an organized and interesting way. One of my fav profs at the current time.
AS a student who struggles with Chemistry i found David to be very clear. It was only due to my lack of work in the 2 half of the semester that i slipped. If you put in the time and effort into his class you will do well! I love his mellow manner. He approaches students in a very calm way which is refreshing and not overbarring and scary. Despite my lacking study time i still somehow passed with a C.
Dr. Nachman is what i expect of a university level professor. Extremely bright, selfless, and having the ability to be serious or playful. He loves to teach, it makes it enjoyable to learn. Though sometimes i think he should be teaching in Japan.

He was a awesome teacher, although he does love to teach, and will keep you in that classroom talking as long as he can! but he is a fun guy and i enjoyed his class
His grading is very leaneant. He replaces your exam scores with the score recieved on the final for that section(if it is higher). He loves to talk about the history of CHM which is not helpful for exams, but if you read the book thuroughly you will pass. I will NOT take him again because he takes too long to return test and deviates in lectures
Very good and clear instructor, something you need in chemestry
Highly recommend!!! He is a great teacher. He is very patient and friendly.
Had him for lecture and lab, brilliant guy. He seems so serious, yet funny. His goal is for you to learn the material. Allows you to turn in labs late so you can have the time to figure everything out. You'll spend alot time studying, but it's worth it! He got me way more interested in chemistry than before.
Nachman is an AMAZING teacher. He is easy to understand, and very helpful. He will go over something 50 times until you understand. Tests have a lot of extra credit!!! Great teacher, I learned a lot too!
Nachman is a teacher who lectures a lot. Although the notes i took during lecture helped a lot on the final. Sometimes he lectured in lab so long we didnt have time to finish the lab. He is always willing to help and work through any problems in reports but he is a stickler for sig figs and accuracy. Pretty easy going on the grading of reports tho.
If you are looking for someone that is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, this is the professor to take
He is good at teaching and is fairly fun to have as a lab teacher considering the class is 3 hours long. I recommend him.
Dr. Nachman can explain deep concepts without losing site of the big picture.
he is a great prof., it was hard for me just cuz i'm not into chem, but always gave me extra help when i asked for it. tests are essayed, but only not long. he doesn't even grade the homework, just checks to see that you complete it. the final he gives extra credit and allows you to replace past exams for diff. sect if you do better. GREAT TEACHER!
Classes can be dull, but overall it was a good. Go to class, his tests are pretty much what he goes over in class so take notes. There's homework from the book before every test, if you have trouble he will help you. Do the homework. It helps you study for the test.
He speaks above your head & makes concepts really hard to grasp. I NEVER had any troubles in a class before his. I had to go to diff. teachers for help, & THEN would understand. Even with help i still didnt get what he would would say. He doesn't know how to just say it how it is. He likes to go as much in a round-about way to answer you as he can
Dr. Nachman is a VERY thorough and comprehensive professor. He is very smart and well thought-out. That said, he does expect students to be the same. If you want to learn, he's a great professor, but understand that he's not an easy A, but it can be done with hard work.
Lab wasnt easy. You are expected to follow all proper lab procedures. Doing something unsafe will get you scolded. Pay attn in 151 so that you will know proper procedures and you will be fine. He will help you until you understand if you only ask. I am very confident with my lab skills now but it was the most work for 1CH ever. Be prepared to work!
PROFESSOR NACHMAN WAS AWESOME! HE WAS VERY EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND IF ANYONE EVER HAD DIFFICULTIES WITH ANYTHING HE WAS READY TO HELP. HE DID WHATEVER IT TOOK TO MAKE SURE WE UNDERSTOOD THE MATERIAL.THANK YOU DR NACHMAN!
Very easy to understand. Gives alot of homework. You have to keep up with it or you'll get behind real quick but if you do it and understand it, the tests are easy. If you don't, not so much. Really enjoyed his class overall
brilliant guy
Dr. Nachman is my mentor. He teaches me so much more than just General Chemistry I. I don't think I have ever visited during office hours, but was always welcome. He is the catalyst to my intellectual endeavors. I would definitely recommend him for classes, so long as you are relatively autodidactic.
This is an honors chemistry 298. Since I am the only one in the class, it is no secret who this is... If the class was JUST about lead, I would be bored to tears. Dr. Nachman makes it so interesting, as he does everything else. His donations of Science Magazines are very much appreciated, too.
Believe it or not, I actually have Dr. Nachman for three classes (all separate ratings). I was already a martial artist when I enrolled in Aikido with Nachman Sensei. Now it is my life! Aikido just fits in so well with everything else. Sensei is extremely generous and teaches Aikido techniques as well as he teaches chemistry.
Nachman is one of those teachers where you will learn A LOT...but you will have to work for your grade. Worth it? Sure, just be ready to get to work.
EXCELLENT teacher: intelligent, knowledgeable, patient, funny, and genuinely wants each student to understand the material. If you want an easy 'A' find another prof.; if you want to really learn chemistry, take Nachman's class. He has no tolerance for unsafety and you should familiarize yourself with the experiment before showing up for lab.
He's one of the best teachers I've ever had. Chemistry is my worst subject and he was there anytime and everytime I needed help. Love the fact that he is so patient, especially with someone like me. His teaching method is different from the book so just stick to one or the other and you won't be confused.
Dr. Nachman was a great prof. I enjoyed his teaching style so much after taking him for CHM090 that I waited outside his office for 2hrs. to get an over-ride into his class!(thankyou Dr. Giletti for assisting.) He is an great teacher, and is always willing to help if you show the effort and desire to learn. Worked hard but learned a lot.
Dr. Nachman is one of the best professors I have ever had. He makes the subject of Chemistry exciting and works hard to help his students understand the material. He was always very approachable and easy to talk to. You can't slide through without studying, but you'll know your stuff by the end of the semester.
he was a very hands on professor and really cares for the students needs. he helps out a lot and inspires students to think and work out porblems to making the class interesting and beneficial to you. he however will not be interested if you are not interested .
In this guys class right now and i am loving it. He is a great storyteller and it's funny because when i look around the room during his lectures the whole class is just in a trance. you would be doing yourself a disservice to not take CHM130 with this dude, VERY good professor. suprised he isn't teaching at some huge university somewhere.
CHM152 lab with Nachman is the 'rabbit-hole'. Visit him during office hours with thoughtful questions, and he will show you how deep it goes. I did not have him for lecture, but for lab I am not sure how anyone could survive without visiting in office hours. Visit him in office hours early and often with thoughtful questions for best results.
very professional, willing to teach as much as your willing to learn, just ask why and he will talk for hours on the intricacies of the subject. outstanding instruction
Seemingly unlimited amount of knowledge. His only agenda is to make sure he is explaining things in a way his students understand. Almost funny how professional he is. Great teacher!!!!!!
Best teacher I ever had! The study load is a lot but its a chemistry class that should be expected. He helps you in anyway that he can and his lecture(s) are fun and helpful.
I thought I had an A but ended up with a B??? Hey, I worked hard... Kinda boring professor but very smart, you chose???
Very knowledgeable
He is one of the best chem teachers. My husband and I actually fought who got to take the last seat in his class. The workload is pretty high, but it helps a lot when you take the test. He is also very nice, and takes the time to help you understand. Hes also not bad on the eyes either.
My favorite teacher, made the chem classes I took him him a total blast.
Has always been extremely polite, helpful, respectful and thorough in answering questions. Wouldn't at all mind knowing him outside of class.
Nachman is a very intelligent person, he just isnt very good at explaining the material to a level that you can understand. He does give partial credit on tests for answers, although the test are very hard. Rely a lot on your book, it will give you most of the info, but not in the best way possible, as well.
I only had Professor Nachman for lab. The labs were hard, but he was very helpful and a fair grader. He's EXTREMELY detailed so if you take his lab make sure you write everything down before turning it in. He would send people back to write serial numbers of equipment down :)
I had nachman for 152 lab and he was great. He truly has a passion for chemistry and really knows his stuff. Sometimes he explains things in a way college kids wouldn't really understand but he makes up for it in being so available anytime you need help and will literally sit with you for hours if you need help. Overall great teacher!
Dr. Nachman is a great teacher. He is always available to help.I thought he was good at explaing the material. His test questions usually require calculations, and are generally essay/short answer. His tests are Not easy, but he does collect homework. Dr. Nachman's class was challenging, but his helpfulness made up for the difficulty of his tests.
Dr. Nachman is a cool guy but his teaching methods are horrible,he goings on in else about stuff thats never on the test or even related to test. If you want to teach yourself take him if not try sumbody else.
Dr. Nachman is very nice but he seems to have a problem bringing down his teaching level to students to don't understand. He gives way too much hmwk that is unrelated to his hard exams! There isn't enough class time to ever go over all that we need to know for the exams. Take Kimball if you have a hard time understanding. Wish I knew this before.
Professor Nachman is incredibly intelligent and teaches at a university level. The course material is difficult. There isn't an easy chm 152 class, you need to put in the time. He is more than willing to answer any and all questions. He is very clear and his tests tend to follow his lecture notes. He is top notch!
He is such a nice and helpful professor. However his lecture style did not work for me personally. Its not very organized and no powerpoints. So me people do like his format, I guess its more based on opinion.
I had him for lab in 151 and 152. The thing is, he's super smart, LOVES chemistry, but INCREDIBLY detail-oriented, and his teaching style is not organized at all. 151 Lab was okay, but 152 lab was very hard, and he did not return lab reports in a timely fashion. Plus, his disorganization really affected my learning in the 152 lab. Skip him.
I had a really tought time in Dr.Nachman's class however, the reason I had such a rough time was due to my wanting to memorize everything. YOU CAN'T MEMORIZE CHEMISTRY! It simply doesn't work and Dr. Nachman is the professor that helped me realize this! Take him and you will learn a new way of learning! :)
I took Chem. 151 Lab with Dr. Nachman and he was extremely helpful. He is very passionate about what he teaches and is very intelligent. His lectures are easy to follow. He is very patient and will take the time to explain any material that was not understood. I truly recommend Dr. Nachman. He is an incredible instructor.
I took Dr. Nachman for CHM107 lecture/lab and CHM152 lab. He will help with any questions in depth if you ask, I would normally call during office hours. I did get an A in the class, but at the same time I did a lot of work for it. Highly recommended instructor, I only wish he was faster at grading assignments.
Dr. Nachman is very intelligent and knows his chemistry. He will make you do things over again to make sure you get the best results for your report. That can be pretty frustrating but at the same time he wants you to succeed after his class. My only negative was his lack of feedback about grades!
He was tough, he expected you to do the best you could, but he also paid attention to YOU, so if your aren't are rocket scientist, he didn't hold you to that standard. If you take him, don't feel like you are not going to pass because you are surrounded by "super smart kids" because if you try your hardest, he will see that!
He is a very tough teacher but only because he treats you like a chemist. You need to do your research, study, read the lab manuals, and if you have ANY questions he will take all the time in the world to thouroughly explain to you and really teach you. Not simply give you an answer and send you on your way.
really explained things well, a lot of homework but you can pass the class without doing it. i still suggest doing it though as it helps with the tests. if you get an answer right on the final that you missed on a test you get the point back!!!
To be honest I came into this class scared that I would fail. Dr Nachman did not put grades up online, as I only had him for Chem lab but I think in the end he curbed the grades to whatever he thought appropriate for the student. super easy and fun labs and very good explanations. very helpful. would recommend.
He is one of the best chem teachers I've ever had. No question is a stupid question, and he wants everyone to understand the concepts required for his class. The tests are really easy, and the labs are a total breeze. You can ask him anything at all, and he will take the time YOU need to understand the answer. Take his class :D
Excellent teacher! Always willing to answer any questions, very patient and sincere. He made things easy to understand. Attendance not really an issue, but you should go to lectures simply because he explains everything so well! Homework isn't difficult, 4 exams total including final. So long as you put in effort you'll pass!!
Dr. Nachman is a chemist, like hardcore. He is extremely passionate about it. Many people get thrown off because his lectures are more like discussions. He expects you to at least skim the chapter and you must do the homework in order to pass. He is patience and goes above and beyond to make sure you understand the material. All test are curved!!!
Great professor, only had him for lab but i'm sure he is probably a great lecturer too. This class isn't an "easy A" but he will go into depth about the subject if you need some extra help. Very approachable and made me really love the laboratory. Highly recommend this teacher.
Very professional teacher, and he will help you if you ask for it. A lot of what he said is lost in semantics, which makes it very hard to understand the topics he presents. I do not suggest taking him for lecture, however for teaching a lab Dr. Nachman is an adequate teacher. However, do not expect this class to be easy.
He was a very good professor, but one thing that i extremely disliked about the class was that he did not give us any type of study guide for the final, but expected us to simply study the whole book and guess what was going to be on the test. Other than that, i would definitely recommend him. However, this was not an easy class.
I like Dr Nachman, he is very knowledgeable and has high standards for his labs. However, there was no feedback for lab reports, and I hear this is common in his labs. I still have no idea what any of my grades were.
he is an analytical chemist. it was tough, and i LITERALLY had about thirteen handwritten pages of homework every week, but i learned chemistry, very very well because of him. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN HOW TO SUCCEED IN ANY LAB take him. if you want to actually learn the material and understand it, take him. he is great at explaining, concepts to all.
Great teacher, always takes time to explain and re explain any questions. He is very knowledgeable so sometimes it's hard to follow along. Expect to have a daily reading schedule of a couple pages (not hard at all). As long as you keep up with the assignments and reading then you'll get a good grade.
He was always willing to help you out or answer any questions, and if you got stuck on a lab, he would sit with you and try to explain it to you until you understood. His lab tests were really difficult, and he gave out a bunch of homework... if you aren't willing to spend a couple hours each night preparing, then this class might not be for you.
Dr. Nachman is the kind of teacher that loves teaching and will answer any question you throw at him with surprising detail and clarity. Whats matters most is a teachers eagerness to take the time to teach students no matter what it takes. You'll have to work harder compared to other teachers but its worthwhile.
This man knows his stuff. Tests are essay questions and problems, graded by hand. Has worked in extra credit for every exam so far. He does take his time grading the tests, he's a busy man I suppose. He wants you to really know and think about Chemistry. Overall a great and enthusiastic teacher.
I am almost finished with my time at MCC and I must say Dr. Nachman is probably one of the best teachers I've had so far. He is very informative, has a great sense of humor, and made a great effort making chemistry relevant to me.
Great teacher and wonderful person. Thank you Dr. Nachman!
Dr. Nachman is a wonderful professor and an all around person. He inspired me to pursue a Chemistry degree. He made complex concepts of Chemistry easy to see on a small scale. Teaching styles taught me a lot; he suggests you for the test be able to know definitions at the end of each chapter, doing this helps retain a lot! Easy grader, no Easy A
Great teacher. Classwork consists of lectures, hw sets, and series of exams (4-5). Grading structure is aimed at your success. drops lowest exam score, any improvements on the final increase your lowest exam score. Be familiar with conversion methods and formula applications and you will do well.
If you struggle with chemistry, do not take his class. His lectures are not relevant to his exams. He goes over theories and terms, but the whole exam is on word problems that he doesn't work on with the class. As if he expects you to already know. He doesn't use canvas. You will never know your overall grade. Takes his time grading exams.
Professor Nachman is extremely passionate about chemistry. However he is not the best teacher. If you take this class be prepared study everyday for a couple hours a day. He doesn't teach what is going to be on the test a lot of the time and he tests you on theories. The tests are also all short answer. Extremely difficult class.
He is very knowledgeable and I suggest talking to him in office hours to truly get everything from this class. The tests are free response and conceptual based but he is a lenient grader. He gives tons of extra credit on tests but you will need it because the final is a monster.
He's obviously brilliant, but to the point that he goes on long tangents about the chemists who've discovered the material being learned. Very very interesting lectures, but when it comes down to it they don't teach you what you need for the exams-which are very hard. Answers questions well though. Overall just a very hard class, must teach self.
Dr. Nachman is a fantastic teacher, his lectures are informative and funny, and he brought in demonstrations. His tests are difficult. all essay questions, no multiple choice. However you can get partial credit and there may even be extra credit questions. He is passionate about chemistry and if you are too, you can enjoy this class and pass
If you want to be doing 10+ hours of homework for each test then take him. He doesnt explain anything in lecture and you have to learn everything on your own. Also he doesnt help at all during his office hours, definitely NOT a professor I would take again.
David is nice guy, but he doesn't teach calculations. He'll cover history and discoveries of chem, but skip over the slides that are how to do calculations. Yet, half of his tests were based on preforming calculations. He falls behind on grading and lectures, I haven't seen an updated grade in over a month. I learned next to nothing this semester.
Dr. Nachman knows his stuff really well. If you do love chemistry, take him, he will spend time explaining things in-deep, otherwise, you will find it pretty boring and time-consuming. He also willing to give you advice on education and other stuff outside classroom context.
