Great guy. Great teacher. I could see him better in a younger age range of students. Great man though.
Nice teacher, pretty basic reality math. Best math class I have taken. Can't read his writing but he is pretty helpful. Good teacher.
He is a very good teacher. Very helpful and usually clear about what he is explaining. However, his writing could use a little improvement on the board....
Great teacher. Easiest math class have ever taken. Simplifed a confusing subject and his tests are easy. Recommend Nelson to everyone for any math class
Awesome teacher. Helpful, patient with others, and kept things fun.
Very patient teacher, willing to "sit" and take time to show you your difficulties!!
Very good teacher. Very good at clarifying. I highly recommend him for math
Best math class i ever takin.
i took 3 classes with him and all class i ended up with not less than 3.7 and i nv really study outside class. ALL i do is to attend his class and finished his class project (don worry it's group) and partication (come up to board and do hw 3 times) datz all.. i am a huge slack and getting that grade.. damn.. you know wad i'm saying... recommanded!
Good teacher but hard to get high GPA. 5 HW problems in the whole quater. but very hard exams!
I'm surprised this man is married. He's a total freak. He wears the weirdest ties. The class is ok. Nothing really special about the class.
Worst teacher I have ever had. I did not learn a thing in this class
Damn, all I have to say is that Mr. Dave Nelson sure is fine. I mean...Damn.
I learned more about his pokemon fettish than anyhting else. Love the neckties, don't like the teaching style. I am not sure that I learned anything of value in this class.
dave nelson is really nice guy, but for me the class was way to lax and there was not a lot of 'teaching' durning class time. class was fun but it was a struggle to learn the material on my own~ like idependent study only you had to show up in a classroom everyday too. like i said, he is a really nice guy tho. shows you crazy stuff on the TI-83
Nice guy, bad teacher. You really had to already kinda know the math before he taught it. Not good for anyone who needs to ask a question once in a while. After taking his class, I feel ill prepared for calculus and think I will retake 104.
He actually "taught" for 15-20 minutes a class. Was able to catch up on gossip with friends. Homework, easy, since he doesn't look at it. Exams, easy for me, but definetly not everyone. Tends to pay attention to the front row and stares at people in a manner that is very unusual. Since this is a voluntary response sample, though, it IS biased.
Nelson is probably one of the best teachers I've had in years. He really teaches all the materials needed for hw and exams. Importantly, if you need extra help outside of class he goes beyond his way to help. This is why most of his students excel. I highly recommend him, but if you're simply a slacker then don't expect to succeed period.
David rocks. You go to class, work hard and participate and he will help you out also. Plus he's super HOT!!!
He is weird. Likes Pokemon too much. And I heard that he actually read Rate My Professor comments about him out loud in his class one day.
Mr. Nelson is an awesome teacher, even though sometimes he's a little sarcastic when talking in class. I learnt a lot from his class. Test are sometimes difficult but if you spend time to study, you will sure excell. Projects are so much fun. Finals are comprehensive, but not hard at all
weird teacher. Have a good summary of the text. Homework from the text doesn't necessarily need doing as long as you've taken good notes of his lectures and well done the worksheets.
Great teacher. Fun projects. Easy to get a good grade if you come to class and pay attention.
Today, he showed this website and read he's comments to the entire class.lol Love his class so far. We should totally rate and give him a hottest.
Easy to get a good grade if you attend class everyday. Projects were fun. Give lots of extra credit and makes class enjoyable.
Cant stand him! He made us send him a "reflection" email everyweek that was graded! The HW had nothing to do with what we talked about in class. The tests were off both. If you asked a Q he wouldnt really answer you he would just stare at you, or he would ask the whole class a question and we would answer and he would just stare
Wow, he is great!
He is a great teacher
He did not give any credit for my work even group members told him that I was in their group, but no one keep the paper(seems he did not turn it back to us). 3 of 5 members in my group got credits except me and another girl~ that's weird. His review for test is not helpful. I think I get into a wrong class. Go to Hallstone's class is better!
Great teacher! Show up to class, ask questions, study for tests, and you should get above a 3.0 easy. He is always willing to help!
Great teacher! Show up to class, ask questions, do your homework, and you will do great in this class! He is very easy to understand, and always is willing to help!
Really great teacher, I still have the pokemon cards he gave me. learned a lot.
Great teacher. Connects well with his students. The problem is that he makes his class too easy. If you plan on taking advanced stats somewhere else you're pretty much screwed because he teaches you how to do everything on a calculator. Professors at the actual University level expect you to know how to do things without calculators. I had to do A LOT of catchup because Mr Nelson makes his class so easy. If you plan of furthering beyond the community college level, then take someone else.
He sucks, worst teacher forever
class isnt easy. teacher never emails back. dont take this class.
Great
He makes statistics fun and has a great sense of humor. He has the best ties!
I love this man. He is not just a math professor, he is also a pokemon professor. He has a great sense of humor and he makes stats fun! TAKE THIS CLASS.
If you can take a different teacher, do it. Nelson was a mediocre teacher at best. His class is hard to sit through and he is useless if you have a question. He has his funny moments. Don't make David your first choice. Or even your second.
he is a nice teacher but i wouldn't recommend anyone to take him because he doesn't explain anything. plus he wears the most ridiculous ties! but there are funny moments when you have client visits..
He has a tendency to assume you understand the material before he teaches it. He is very willing to answer questions IF you can figure out what question to ask. He is very likeable but I wish he gave more detailed lectures with handouts. If you want to understand you will probably need to spend time on the portal listening to Stats tutor.
Class is a lot of hard work but he does explain things well. My one gripes is that he grades insanely slow. Always behind by weeks!!! He is very courteous and polite even to the students that are disrespectful to him. I feel like I learned a lot! I'm glad I took this class with him. I would take another class taught by him.
Took the online class and I gotta say it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Lots of homework, but he shows you how to do it through videos posted on the website. The quizzes were multiple choice and there are only three tests for the classes (two and a final). Overall, I would recommend it if you don't mind word problems.
great teacher.
The teacher, Mr. Nelson, was a good teacher. He was very helpful and available for questions when you needed him. The online course itself though is not very well set up (not necessarily the fault of the teacher) There were not online lectures to watch for each chapter which made it much harder to learn the required material.
David is the greatest teacher ever!
His tests were mostly similar to his reviews and the final is a combination of all the tests. He is quite helpful as he always answer all your questions either in class or in his office hour. However, he is not really good as clarifying things which makes the lecture become less interesting. Overall, he is a good teacher.
AWESOME guy period. He is super understanding. I had a weird situation come up in life and fell so behind in the class. He was very flexible and worked with me all the way. He also has a sense of humor. I wish I could know him better outside of the class because he seems like he'd be awesome to hang with. But I'm not attending GRCC as i'm at EWU =/
Great teacher! Take him and do your work! Would take him again!
Easy and helpful!!!! Got easy A
David Nelson's finite (financially complex and heavily formula-based) class-- required insanely advanced mathematical skills and gave way too high of expectations to 'successfully' accomplish. The testexam grading system in this class was extremely tough and included complete 'independent' memorization of its content. It was not easy whatsoever!
There are only 4 tests (including the finals) for this classes but there are a lot of graded homework. He doesn't accept late homework. He is overall an easy teacher and his lectures are okay. For a 4.0 you need to get over 95% and he doesn't care about attendance, but you have to attend classes to do the assignments at class.
First of all, he is not a great teacher. His lectures is difficult to understand. Even though, textbook is requirement, but it is useless. Second, he doesn't do exam's review and exams are hard. He will take off your score for the late homework. DONT take his class if you don't wanna fail.
Gives exams which are not similar to the reviews. Don't take an online class the software gives so little help. Terrible. I spent almost all the days in the Math lab for help. Teacher is a good person and seems fair enough. But software skips many steps on explanations. I spent too much time on YouTube looking for help.
Overall he was a pretty good teacher. Had quizzes every week that were pretty easy. He was super understanding about homework due dates and would extend them however long you needed. The tests are hard since he doesn't say what he is expecting. As long as you do all your homework and quizzes, it's not that bad of a class.
Gives super boring lectures. Tests are okay and he gives all the formula on final so that you don't have to memorize all of them. There is a quarter long group project that makes up 20% of your grade.
Professor Nelson never turned down a student. If there is something you are unclear about ask him he will take the time to explain. Some questions on the test were a bit tricky because of wording but other than that it was a great course to take.
He likes to answer every question. In class homework is hard if you don't know the knowledge. Require students write on white board for 5 times. Two projects aren't difficult if your listenning and math are good. Only can get 1 point extra credit for total grade if you do well in math contest.
Took Statistics 146, took me some time to get back in the groove of doing math which I hadn't done in almost 8 years. Answers any question and will explain it in a different way if your still confused. Study off of his practice tests and read the definitions in the book and you will do fine. Easy A with a little bit of effort. Would take again.
I took calc 3, Never have I hated math this much.. His teachings are very abstract, like he'll just start explaining a problem, for the moment you will understand his work, but dosent teach you how to apply it on other problems, the in between steps, detail almost everything is very vauge. I had to teach myself. I was always in his office hours.
I had a really good experience with Mr. Nelsnon in online math 147 class.
He is definitely an awesome instructor. His lecture is easy to understand(he explains things really well, and you can understand every step he tries to demonstrate). I started to love math because of him. Great instructor!!!
His homework was pretty easy for being a math class. He is funny and grades straight forward. Majority of your grade is on tests so make sure to study. Overall he made a scary math class easy and simple for the most part.
This professor is very awkward. He spends most of his time in class staring at his students, and doing math for us. He doesn't really "teach," but rather does the math and hopes we figure it out by watching him. He is easy to contact outside of class, and provides help to those whom ask via wamap, but my biggest issue is that he doesn't EXPLAIN.
First off, Online, more difficult than you think. He claimed that the answers to his additional homework were in the back of the book, but they weren't. He had to talk to the publishers of the book to get the okay to post the answers on WAMAP. Very helpful, when it came to questions on homework. Had discussion boards, cracked jokes. Test heavy.
He is an awesome teacher but he is kind of tough for giving grades. Make sure you come to class regularly. He doesn't take attendance, but if you don't come, you learn nothing. Tests are trick, you learned a lot. He is not going to cover a lot unless you ask. There will be two projects for the class and have group projects. Make sure you don't mis.
David is truly a good teacher. His lectures can be a little lackluster at times, but he can explain it better if you visit him during his office hours. His occasional "visitors" to class also make the class much more interactive and gives you the chance to learn the applications of what he is teaching you. He gets a bad rep, but he is very good.
I got a lot out of the materials provided, but this instructor is the type of guy that likes to try to find reasons to take points away. His subjective standards are hard to predict, which is frustrating for a 4.0 student. Ironically, the videos he provided were littered with mistakes, which made things unnecessarily complicated.
Prof Nelson is not a tough grader, total of 4 fairly easy tests. The class is basically him explaining the topic, worksheet after lecture (by pair), answering WAMAP questions. Sometimes the class time is consumed with only him working on wamap questions. Worksheets are graded by completion. We had 2 Maple labs and 1 project.
Aside from a great sense of humor, Probably the best math teacher I've had since High School. ALWAYS willing to re-talk over subjects, homework, worksheet problems in front of the class - devotes himself entirely to the student while showing a large passion for what / how he teaches. Tests are (Hard) questions in the book & 2 Team Maple Labs occur
He is really good teacher. If you pay your attention to lecture, you will find the lecture very easy to follow. I am highly recommend this professor.
This class was pretty easy. Not much homework, and if you got the material, it will won't be tough. He gives videos explaining everything, which is great because you can see it just like in a face to face class.
He just does problems on the board (very quickly) without much explanation, hoping that you'll get it. So, most of the times in class you're just trying to write everything in your notebook (without understanding), and then at home you look at it and try to figure out the meaning. I had to watch YouTube videos to understand most of the concepts.
He doesn't really explain things thoroughly as he just does problems on the board. I was pretty lucky to get into a class with students who asked a lot of questions, to which he answered in detail, otherwise it would be difficult to pass his class with a strong base. My friend who unluckily got into a graveyard quiet class had to suffer from that.
The book for this class is very very hard to follow. Doesn't work problems out for you, just heres the question and heres the answer, with lots of words in between.I figure things out by seeing how its done show me, dont just tell me. Very frustrating and I usually love math.
he is a really good professor. I enjoyed his lectures and small projects. he is funny and weird to be honest, but he is easy going professor. but be sure to check all your formulas things before beg tests!
Loved this guy. Hes hilarious. Doesnt give attitude when you ask questions. Helps outside of class. Goes over the homework. You get graded discussions during class, but its not mandatory. But go. The more you go the more you learn and the easier it is. hes a great guy.
Really easy professor. Participation matters, but he tries to give opportuinities to every people. He loves POKETMONS
He's very willing to meet outside of class to go more in depth about lessons. He sometimes is difficult to follow, as his explanations of concepts can be too brief and vague to really grasp what's going on. I might not recommend taking this class if you really rely on thorough lessons. Overall, David Nelson's class is great for the right student.
All in all a good teacher. He sometimes doesn't make the differences between certain things very clear (such as when to use one formula over another), but hes very willing to help if you have questions. His tests are somewhat hard, and the average score on 3/4 tests was around a 68% (and he doesn't curve exam results).
Read the chapter and take notes ahead of time before class lecture, it will really help your understanding. Required 3 board problems but if you do extra he gives extra credit, but only twice. 3 big tests, final exam, group project. Answers questions, personable, interesting humor. Cool guy.
Professor Nelson is great: homework is assigned in moderation and within reasonable time frames, grading is clear and simple, and the tests are not too difficult. There is a group essay but it is spaced out over the quarter so even that was not too difficult. Overall I would recommend him and enjoyed him as a professor and his class.
He was pretty okay; I had to work really hard to get that A though. His tests were pretty hard, but there were some extra credit opportunities which is awesome. Lectures are pretty difficult to follow -- would not recommend unless you're dedicated to go over your notes daily and practically teach yourself the subject at home. Cool guy, no attitude.
He is a fairly easy teacher. In order to pass his test, you need to study the review guide.
really accessible, fun projects, good course materials.
Horrendous teacher. Lessons were disorganized, ideas weren't explained well, and homework was often covering material not lectured on in class. Class average was below 65% for all 3 tests. Lectures weren't helpful, but in class assignments forces you to attend. Also has two projects during the semester.
Best math professor I had in this college so far, very understanding as long as you show that you are putting In the work.
Mr. Nelson is awesome! His lectures make the concepts easy to understand, and he is willing to explain concepts as many times as needed if someone needs help. He has a kind of weird sense of humor that's pretty funny. I would recommend his class to anyone willing to put in the effort, since it's a decent amount of work but is also pretty fun.
Amazing teacher! He genuinely wants his students to succeed. He takes the time to teach the material until everyone understands it. If you still dont understand he will go over it again. He is funny, puts effort into his lectures and loves his job. He gives hw, study guides, protects and extra credit which all helps you for the exam. Awesome guy!
I took this class online so I dont know him much as a teacher personally. But the online class is a little hard, just because youre pretty much all on your own when it comes to learning concepts, and the textbook isnt that good at explaining so I relied on youtube videos to help me. Theres not too much hw and theres 3 tests including a final.
Mr. Nelson is an awesome teacher. I have had him for two online math courses and they have both been great. He is super understanding and helped when I needed it. I would definitely take Mr. Nelson for more classes!
Weekly lessons hw, two midterms, two projects and a final. Class is easy as long as you are responsible. He replies quickly and is always willing to help. Sometimes lessons aren't super helpful on some of the tougher subjects but the textbook is good help for when that happens. He grades the projects slowly, but other than that it's a good class.
Great professor. Each week, he posts a couple lecture videos, a discussion question, and the homework for that week. If you don't understand something, you can get on a zoom meeting and he work through the problem with you. Very helpful! Also, there are two projects due throughout the quarter which he gives you a week to do.
The class itself is structured simple. Lesson sequences with weekly homework along with a few exams and projects. He engages the class through weekly forums and that is where he is most accessible. Would take this class again however my only gripe is how long it takes to grade exams and projects. He'll keep you on your edge of the seat for weeks.
I didn't need a textbook for this course as I attended live Zoom sessions every morning. These were strong enough to get me a solid grade. Nelson made calculus understandable, fun and engaging. If you got behind on the work though, it is hard to catch up. Not excessively test heavy, but scores do matter.
Overall he's a good teacher. He uses WAMAP to complete all the assignments, tests, and projects. He assigned 10 discussions (they were super easy and you didn't need to write a response), 10 homework assignments, 22 lesson sequences (like daily assignments), 3 tests, and 2 projects. I recommend asking the greenriver tutors for help if u get stuck!
A solid choice for a math teacher. You GET 60 LATE PASSES to use throughout the quarter. Tests we're pretty easy as well. He does everything on WAMAP, including emails and announcements. He responds really quickly though, so, overall, I really like him. I am enrolling in his MATH148 class. (EDIT: his 148 class has 70 late passes )
Relatively easy class, exams are not difficult at all. Mr. Nelson is really nice and provides feedback and help to students who are struggling with his class.
Professor Nelson is great, he provides great feedback and is very helpful, really cares about his students' success. The Cengage textbook for the class is absolutely horrible so beware, use YouTube or ask Professor Nelson for help!
Really light on grading. Homework have hundred of tries, with many late passes available. can submit assingment weeks ago get exactly 9/10. full score for in class assignments if participate, even with only 1 out of 20 questions answered. Sometimes you may need to learn on your own to catch up , so be cautious about self studying.
Many homeworks with unlimited tries so it is almost guaranteed to get 100 in all homeworks. Occasionally, there are sudden in class assignments which gives you full credit as long as you submit it on the end of the class, no matter how many mistakes, otherwise you will get a 0 if you do not come to class and do it. Tests are relatively light.
Very good math instructor
This class is fairly easy. Each lesson is associated with a YouTube video or textbook page. The hw is frustrating, but it's fairly easy. There are lesson sequences (every day) and hw (once a week). There are unlimited tries, so it's easy to get 100% on the hw. Tests are kinda hard & the projects are a little confusing.
There are 3 tests and 1 final. e will give you the sample review for the test, and its were very easy. There are also 2 business projects but as long as you follow the material, you will be fine. He also gave a good explanation of the concept. He offered extra review before the test day for students which was very nice!
Nelson is a great professor period. He makes things simple enough to understand, his lessons are straightforward and he re-explains the problem if you don't understand. He has a relatively small workload compared to other math professors and he was an absolute blessing to have my first quarter of running start. 10/10 for sure!
Really great professor. Took his online class and everything was easy to understand. He was prompt to respond and explain things. There were 3 tests and 2 projects. It was a lot of work but totally doable. Go to the math center if needed they're a great help. I'd 100% take his class again!
He used another website outside of canvas to assign homework and quizzes, they were easy, just repetitive. He does have a couple of big projects where he gives you an issue for a fake company and you figure out the issue and write a proposal for it. Honestly, he was a sweet, hilarious old man that clearly loves his job.
Professor Nelson is definitely passionate about his teaching, but I feel like he's too picky when it comes to tests. He will literally mark you down if you don't do EVERYTHING his exact way. Really frustrating at times. Also, he's not very accessible outside of class and the only way to contact him is through discussion boards. But good lectures.
He is a good instructor all around and the entire course is on WAMAP, I enjoyed taking his course and have learned alot. My only complaint is that he takes quite a while to respond to your emails and messages.
Professor Nelson makes the material straightforward and understandable. His lessons, assignments, and exams are structured well, though the grading can take a while. Using Unstuckstudy and the provided resources helped me prep effectively for this class.
I took David Nelson for Math 147 and he uses WAMAP instead of canvas. Assignments were around 2-3 a week and a homework assignment due on Sunday so the workload wasn't crazy. Exams and projects were a big part of the grade but using the right methods they weren't too difficult. Nelsons reponses weren't a big issue as they were generally 1-2 later.
Awesome guy! Lecture style was a little confusing for me; we didn't always go over everything on the HW before due date. Some classes are lectures, some are reviewing a few homework questions. Online lectures & MLC help a lot! Class is on WAMAP. It's best to attend every day, or you may miss paper assignments.
Had a specific project at the beginning of the quarter that nobody knew how to do, and when I asked if I could do it a certain way he had said sure. It is a day before the final exam and I had gotten a 9% on hit regardless of me asking if the way I did it was okay. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
Very caring and nice!
Dr. Nelson is overall a nice guy and I enjoyed his class. However, on the second day he gave us a project due at the end of the week that required concepts from calculus; for context, I took his PRE-calculus class (emphasis on “pre”). I had to, over a weekend, teach myself how to differentiate equations in order to solve it. Very frustrating.
Nelson was an okay teacher. His lectures are more him explaining how to do something rather than helping students understand the concept. He's a little slow when it comes to answering emails (it can take him a day to a week) , and his exams were way harder than any of the homework. On the final there were some questions I don't remember him teching
What a great professor, they made math such an enjoyable subject, which was very important for me since I don't have a great history with math. They had great humor, were an easy grader, and were very passionate about what they teach. They also wore a different awesome tie each day, which made it more fun.
Explains how to do something, not the concepts behind what your are doing, very confusing and hard to follow
Homework is submitted on paper so you'll have to go to class everyday. His lectures are really short and confusing but good enough to cover the concepts. Had only one project that's 20% of the whole grades. Exams are okay but also had a lot of multiple choice questions. He's very funny and wears different great neckties everyday.
Mr. Nelson is a nice guy, but he doesn't really explain why we are learning something or what it is for. His tests are very difficult and he gave a super hard project worth 15% of our grade on the second day of class, then didn't grade it till the end, which was super frustrating. Show up for quizzes and in person projects, it will save your grade.
This class was literally easier than Algebra 2. It consists of short lectures, while taking notes each day. We had 2 projects, 2 tests, and a final exam. Tests were similar to reviews. Show up if you want the full 5 points on your hw. Even if you tell him you're gonna miss, you will still get a point off of your hw.
