Stubborn ****, who contradicts himself while teaching the law
Easy to understand and knows what he is teaching.
Hard teacher, but takes time on each subject
is a good instructor but as a person very moody
I don't understand how he's still teaching
Gall this, Gall that...I guess he's ok though
clear instruction, hard marker, not bad for content, but very condescending
No Comments
Hard marker, very clear on most of topics, but too educated to be teaching crim.
Very hard marker
most moody teacher i met, his way or the highway
Someone should look at his dropout/failure rate and ask some serious questions about his teaching ability.
Extremely BAD instructor... he will give one student a good mark for something he will have given another student a bad mark!!!
Good professor - however, it is a first year course & most of the students act like they are still in elementary school. I didn't blame him for his in-class actions. Covered the material very methodically - 'grow-up & listen' = easy A in this class!
The previous commenter was way out of league! I do agree that some students may have been still in the 'elementary' mindset, but this did not excuse this instructor's pathetic performance. Someone should 'retire' this guy!!!
This man plays favorites. Watch out. I took him to arbitration and won because he tried to fail me for no reason.
Had this instructor in the early 1990's. He is moody and does play favorites, however, he did manage to impart knowledge that has stuck with me to this day. Very interesting course...odd guy.
This teacher has a very effective teaching style. Although he sometimes may be weird in the class the material is easy to understand because he teaches you well in the class. He is a fair marker and he will definately call you on anything you do wrong.
Fair marker? Osbourne himself probably wrote the previous comment. This instructor is NOT fair in his marking. He gets very moody and it carries into how he marks a student's assignment. Beware this horrid excuse for a teacher!
Can be intimidating.Teaches the test so as long as you don't miss any classes and you'll pass. Whatever you do, don't get on his bad side cause if you're a program student you're stuck with him for two years. That's if he doesn't kick you out first.
Horrible prof. He uses his knowlegde to be very intimidating. DO NOT take him.
This professor is an excellent teacher. Like most people he is not perfect. If I was to criticize any point I would question his nose picking and **** snorting.

David is good at teaching the material but he is just plain wierd. I think it must have been law school that warped him.
overgrown ****. smart guy but hey, that doesn't matter. just grin and bare his antics and you'll do fine, i guess, unless he hates you or you have trouble not laughing at him.
This professor can come across as intimidating. Tests are difficult - and require full attention to readings and active learning. He is quite helpful, when called upon. Success with this prof, requires a mature attitude and keen interest to to well.
A very knowledgeable person in all areas of the law but unfortunately extremely unobjective, biased, and inconsistent in his markings. He is arrogant and will not admit when he is blatantly wrong. He is rude and demeaning to his students.
provides no positive feedback and only gives negative criticism in a condescending manner. contradicts himself. Major favoritism at play. If he likes you, you'll get a good mark. WARNING Don't take his course!
probably bitter for not making it as a lawyer and taking it out on his students for wasting his time in law school and now making chump change. only his words are the irrefutable truth of the universe. he is god
if you like to sit through hell, take his course. if you like to be bullied, take his course. if you like to have your self-esteem and confidence destroyed, take his course. if you like to get a bad CGPA, take his course
self-centred and egotistical; ill-mannered and unhelpful; temperamental and impatient towards students. does not have the qualities to be a teacher and is better off being a dictator.

Only for mature students - the ones' that don't like him still belong in high school - hard marker but helps when asked - stickler for good English - Langara would totally rock with a dozen more like him
Watch "The Paper Chase" before taking this prof. He's not as old and wrinkled as ? but he has a passion for the law and is a stickler with language. His class is a REAL learning experience. Glad I was there.
If Langara has a dozen like him the school will rock to hell. Students will end up learning how to bullshit and suck up to him in order to succeed. If you want real experience, go to Kean. David only like women with kids, watch out... He need to retire.
teaching ethics? the chair?-garbage! He needs to take an ethics course for himself. The worst person I have ever met. Kean should replay David's position.
I wish I never took him. Plays favourites and has a bad attitude to teaching. He would make a good politician.
Answer tests exactly how you have the question in your notes and you'll do fine. Stickler for english, has a strong opinion on everything. His idol is Jack Layton.
David is very clear in his expectations for success in the course. Further, his delivery of material is excellent and concise. The course is challenging and grading is tough. Great learing experience when approached with maturity.
David did you rate yourself. The way you mark is subjective. You play favorite! You like to bully students who do not suck up to YOU!
At first wasn't impressed with his teaching, but does tell you what he expects. He does play favorites but is helpful. He doesn't take any crap from students and expects maturity. Is nice if you are interested in the course and you go for him for help.
He perceives the world throught bias judgements, preconceptions, and emotion. Nevertheless, many people are like that, including myself, so what can I blame. Don't get on his ways, then he properly wouldn't hate you.
David is extremely arrogant and ethnocentric. Very passionate towards older, white female students.
To be honest, be happy if you pass his class. Other than that, you're just wasting your time and ruining your GPA if you take his class. Extremely judgemental and unfair guy.
thinks his courses are english courses and expects u to write quality essays within an unreasonable amount of time
This professor says "anyone want to shoot the breeze?" what's that supposed to mean?
He expects alot from his students. Which is good if you can take a challenge. If you're taking this class to slack off good luck passing. Study hard for his exams and you should do fine. Overall, hes very clear on his lectures. Pleasure having him as a prof.
He doesn't know how to teach. His expectations are unclear. The class discussions he initiates go way off-topic. I haven't learned a thing from him. Anything I learned was due to my own time&efforts; it's basically a self-taught class. He's deadweight and is completely useless.
I've taken 4 classes with David (not by choice!)He's really picky on tests, but once you know the ground rules it's not so bad. For example, don't state your own opinion on a test unless it matches his, and write what he said in class word for word. Try to get on his good side from the begining, oth
He does not help u in any aspect. I've gone to see this guy for help but all he does is make stupid face expressions, almost like I've given him a scientific problem 2 solve. He's arrogant & unfair. You'll be able 2 do well on his tests if a) he likes u or b)u 'figure out' what he wants on his tests
David is a pretty good teacher, he has alot of expectation for everybody and if you don't pass then its your fault. Just do the work and listen to what he says and you should do well

David is the best instructor I ever had, he helps you, if u r interested in the class, and if u listen to him carefully then crim is the best class. He makes his class interesting. He is impressive, smart, and helpful.I am no more in the program, but it was my fault to not show my dedication.
warning!!!! this guy is the most arogent prick you will ever come across. tests are extremely hard. this guy teaches down to his students, thinks he is the king of the ******* castle. work hard and you'll be lucky to pass.
can be boring but gets the info across.
awesome teacher. really easy to understand. readings not overwhelming. attend class and listen to what he says, you'll do well on the exams. he tells you what will be on exams. discusses assigned questions during class. answers any hypothetical question you ask. quizzes timed strictly: 4 mins, 4 pgs
To Me He Is The Ocean Of Knowledge. It Depends On Students Dedication And Hard Work How To Get Good Grades In His Class. Winner Are Those Who Accept Challenges, A Challenge Called Mr. J.D. Osborne. Loosers Will Always Cry and Will Try To Deter Others From Experiencing An Adventure Called Mr.Osborne
Oh Ok my friend! I apologize if I offended you with my writting. Moreover, I pass Mr. Osborne's courses with A's and A+. Therefore, I need not to prove anybody my success. I will be something one day, I challenge those who have doubts on my marks.

Yea kind of hard. If no idea about what is criminology, don't take him. Moreover, take his preliminary courses before going into the really hard ones.
Well my friend, this is the misery of our education system that we are stuck with grades and not the knowledge a course provides us. My grades does not represent what a personality I am, niether my star writting. However, my success in the future will prove that I was build by teachers like Osborne.

very hard, but at the end of the day, you go with something in your head.
success comes with a price, sometimes a teacher can provide you that success free of cost. However, this teacher is hard and makes you think, cry, and frustrated. But it's not exciting if you get everything in an easy way.

I took every class this man teaches, not that I recomend it.I learned a lot from his classes, but that doesn't mean I have to like him. I never had so much grief from a teacher.I'm not disgruntled because I got bad marks(I did quite well)I just think that he lacks people skills.Glad it's over.
Arts and Science students beware. Will ruin your GPA. Run.
He's an arrogant ****
He was not a good teacher then, and is not a good teacher now. Completely arrogant and I believe he has some serious issues going on. Fair? Never, but only to his few favourites. Consider going to another school for Crim related classes ... take him & you'll regret it!!!
I absoulutely LOVED his classes. He really wants his students to do well and will make an effort to help them understand. He's extremely rational and down to Earth. I've taken 4 classes with him so far, and just registered for 2 more.
Initially this instructor is strict and at times harsh. Nonetheless he is fair as long as you attend class prepared and participate - that's half the battle. I've taken 6 of his classes and thrived. I'm now taking 2 more of his classes.
This has to be one of the most painful classes I've ever taken (and I've taken a lot of classes) I had to study 15 hours to get 9/15, and this is just for one quiz. With that kind of studying, I normally do a lot better. Best suited for OCD personalities the man is clear as mudd, and his exams are definitely subjected to "HIS" interpretations only.
He is simply the best prof. I got an A & full participation marks. He asks for feedback and is accessible to students This class is not about studying definitons and keeping your head down in class and then cram for hours. You have to embrace the concepts and apply it to everyday business situations. I really enjoyed his class, extremely fair. S
good proff but you must come to class. everything on his quiz's (worth 45%)are from the lectures
He is a pretty easy prof. He is strict though and can easily get mad. He expects quite a bit from us but I love this guy. He is so damn funny and says things like "no no no go away, come back at the break" if someone is a few minutes late or "Excuse me, HELLO!" if he is trying to start class but people aren't paying attention. He's a guaranteed pas
Like I said in my previous post, I love this guy BUT his ethics class is soooooo hard!!! He expects so much out of you on the midterm and the final and he failed nearly the whole class and said we plagiarized!! How can you cheat in ethics???!!! He says hilarious stuff like "Chicken or the egg" or "Proof is in the pudding" or Flogging a dead horse"
God....terrible, terrible experience. What do you need to know about D.Osbourne? Arrogant, stubborn, unfair marker, hypocrite and all around ****.
He really cares whether or not you do well. Teaches more based on past job - Defence Lawyer. He will teach you how to act which is pretty useful for University.
so arrogant. And a hard marker
David is an extremely straightforward and fair marker. He's also *crystal* clear on how he wants he classes run - you must follow his instructions to a T. Funny guy and an overall interesting class. I look forward to taking more classes with him!
Not a bad prof, he's actually probably one of the better ones at Langara. He has a big mark for participation and make sure you record everything you participate or contribute to the class. His quizes are pretty simple, just make sure you show up and read the text, and you'll do fine.
Because he has been teaching the same thing for over 15 years, he should know what he is talking about. However, he is very arrogant, jerk and is an extremely poor instructor. Can't believe he is still working as an instructor!!!
Really hilarious and caring teacher, takes some time getting use to his strict rules but overall, very respectable. Participation is a huge mark but tests are simple (minus the big memory chunk). Tests are word for word out of the book and can be tricky because he likes to create "which are not...to not.." questions.
Caring teacher??? Anything but! He does know his stuff, but is quite reluctant and goes 'funny' when you point out errors in his thinking. Hard marking is not necessarily bad, but it is when it's inconsistent between students! He has favorites and it's obvious. If he does not like you you're done! This one should retire sooooon!!!
Took 1116,1216,2316 with him. He's an awesome&interesting&funny teacher. Very clear on what he wants. Exams and quizzes are straight forward so either you know it or you don't. Letting the class teach the class was one of the worst things he did. Would have been better if he taught. He gives lots of easy bonus marks! I'd take him again and again!!
I took the Criminal justice program with David and now have a career in law enforcement. My experience with David was that his views are the only views that are right (especially in his Ethics class). If you favor his Anti- police views, you will definately pass with flying colors.
He teaches by the book. We received one handout, which was the course outline. His style of teaching seems strange and unorganized but after a while you realize that classes begin with him answering every question u may have, makes law useful and relatable. Overall he is extremely FAIR. Gives us marks on exams if we all disagree! NICE
David has a free-form lecture style. He doesn't use overheads or Powerpoints, just starts talking about a topic and lets the discussion evolve from there. Participation is a huge part of the grade. 3 quizzes are 15% each of final grade. Knowledgeable prof teaching a very technical subject. Would take another class with him.
David's teaching style is traditional. He expects his students to have read the chapters to be discussed before his class. Every item in his quiz is 1% of your grade so you better study hard. To get an excellent participation mark, you have to engage actively in class. You did great if he knows you by name by the end of the semester.
He makes no use of any sort of media which is not surprising that he is also difficult to get a hold of. He allows class discussion to progress into students consulting him for legal advice for personal problems. Some of these off topic tangents have gone on for over half an hour (I timed it because I had nothing else better to do)
I would have to say his best quality = his clarity. He does make sense of the legal system and is great at answering questions, he thinks about them for a bit (it's kind of funny) and then answers them pretty well. Not bad, but I think he needs more elements involved. It's all textbook and there is 25% for participation (really!?)not a fan of that.
Umm.. Gotta say he's got it all in his head.. Forgets name pretty easy, but he's clear about what he does nd what he wants to say! Overall, he's a good teacher! :D
Overall good teacher. He genuinely wants you to comprehend his material, and never claims to know everything. He leaves things debatable which is helpful for learning, but a tough marker. You can get a great mark if you work hard.
This class is not hard if you attend every lecture and write down word for word what he says.Study those notes and participate in class and you will be fine. Yes, his quizzes can be tricky, and yes he can seem a bit arrogant but he is by no means a horrible professor or that hard. Get on his good side and he will help you out.
Recent "good" comments about this teacher are actually the minority. Would not even be surprised if Osbourne himself wrote them! Make sure to review ALL the ratings (especially the more honest ones way back!)... Osbourne should be placed in a mental institution!
