Professor Owen is honestly one of the nicest people I have ever met. Global Politics is a prerequisite for my major so I had to take it even though I REALLY did not want to. He made this class as entertaining as possible and tried his best to explain everything. Definitely taking classes from him in the future!!

Dr. Owen's class started as being one of my least favorites. At first he seemed monotone and unorganized. Later his class proved to be one of my favorites. Quizzes were very easy if you studied. Individual paper and group paper were very easy as well. Sometimes he's boring but every now and then he'll say something hilarious. I recommend him.

This is my second class with Dr. Owen and I am taking him again in the spring. I love that in all of his classes you know what you're getting in to. He does pop quizzes, which aren't hard if you study the material you just learned the previous days. Great professor, great guy. He does talk about China a lot, but that is his field of study and he lived there for around ten years or so. He tries to make a lot of jokes and is very friendly. He gives a lot of quizzes but if you pay attention in class you will be fine. Overall he is probably one of my favorite professors here.

Dr. Owen is a very nice individual, and provided me with useful feedback throughout the semester. He gives a lot of pop quizzes, but none of them are exceptionally difficult and he usually doesn't evaluate his students on material that wasn't covered in the course lectures. He makes some good jokes, even though not many students laugh at them.

I took Dr. Owen for two classes so far, and he uses most of his class time to lecture, with an occasional classroom discussion. His pop quizzes are usually fairly predictable and you can easily ace all of them so long as you merely pay attention in class. The depth in 251 isn't very comprehensive, so you should take this class for an easy A.

I enjoyed this course, I learned big deal about China. The only thing I would like to comment is the method of the exams. In my opinion, it would be better for students to take home essays exam, or it should be done by computer. Over all, Dr. Owen is an excellent professor.

Professor is a very intelligent man who absolutely cares about his job and you as a student. He is very clear during lectures and always open to hear your opinions as well as express his own. He never had to "get back to me on that" because he always took the time to answer your question clearly and in detail. Very quirky and likable.

I am a business major and took this as an elective and it was pretty easy. Wouldn't mind taking him again. 2 test (multiple choice), group project, pop quizzes every week and a final. Seems like a lot but is actually cake. Plus he has corny jokes which just makes you laugh so you have to enjoy that.

I took this class as a major requirement and I found it to be straight forward if you attend class. Attendance is must or you will not pass. He is very helpful and "pop quizzes" are almost every day so there is no surprise. The quizzes are very helpful for the tests so don't stress. His corny jokes make an early morning class better.

The course lectures were interesting because of the Professor's hands-on experience and vast knowledge about East Asia. Being late for the classes was not tolerated. A 5-minute late for a class disallowed a student to take a quiz. The Professor had a great interest in the students' critical thinking and further development.

I have had Dr. Owen for two of his classes, Int'l Studies and Global Politics. His lectures are not very relevant to his exams, but if you study the quizzes, you will do fine. His exam questions are the exact questions on the quizzes. Attendance is mandatory. After 2 missed, you'll have 3% deducted from your final grade for each additional missed.

Dr. Owen is very enthusiastic about teaching! He is always available to help, however, showing up to class is important. if you don't go to class, you wont pass. He is a very straightforward and organized professor that gives material in a crystal clear way that makes it hard to not pass his tests if you just take notes!

There is only one complaint I have about Dr. Owen- even if you know his materiel he likes to use odd wording on his quiz and tests questions that can sometimes make you miss points. Other than that be ready for many pop quizzes that will in turn prepare you for tests. Also make sure to laugh at his jokes.

Dr. Owen made the course pretty interesting despite all the note taking. He'll hold VERY helpful study sessions before exams if you approach him about it. He takes attendance though so don't skip class. There are also frequent pop quizzes held at the beginning of class so just pay attention to the notesreading.

He calls them pop quizzes but they're more like everyday quizzes, so don't skip the reading. The upside is that the exams are sort of rehashed from the quizzes so that really helps. I usually ended up doing better than I thought on the exams because of this. he also loves to say the word "effectively." I started saying it myself to sound smart.

Owen is a really cool guy, if he has an engaging class it is more fun to learn the material and he is less monotone. His exams are all multiple choice so they're not too difficult. His notes are all through power point so if you're absent you're sure to miss a lot! He's more than willing to meet up with students outside of class, not stressful.

This class has given me a better understanding of what Global Politics actually is. Through the help from Dr. Owen I now have a clear view on how states interact and the many different theories that deal with Global PoliticsAffairs.

I took this class as a Non-Major Elective, and I am glad I did. This class wasn't that hard, you just have to show up and look over your notes. I am not a big fan of classes that start at 8am, but this class is worth getting up early. The material is interesting and the professor has personal experiences in this region which is an added addition. Pop quizzes are given so make sure you make it on time and show up. Pretty easy class.... Gives lectures for the whole class but explains everything which makes it interesting. The text book is important to this class. He expects you to read the textbook in preparation for the many quizzes you will take in this class. If you take detailed notes on the PowerPoint and attend class regularly you will do fine.

Dr. Owen gives a pop quiz once a week, but it is pretty much based off of material covered in class. Attendance is this man's religion. He is pretty lively for an 8 am, and the course is interesting. You can tell he takes an interest in his students and tries to make course matter relatable. Downside: Only offered @ 8 am & 9 am Overall 9/10

He often brings up stories in class and has a quirky sense of humor to go along with it. Not everyone understands or laughs at his jokes but its still funny he tries. GO TO CLASS! His class is so easy but he does take points off your final grade the more days you miss. His lectures aren't posted online so you need to go to get notes. At the beginning of the semester I was a little unsure of Dr. Owen. I quickly learned though that he is a very reasonable professor. The professor gives you enough time to take notes from the slides and provides good examples to explain the topic. I'd take it again!

I liked this class and I am taking one next semester with Dr. Owen. He has a dry sense of humor, but also know's what he is talking about. I personally found his GOV 251 very interesting because its part of my major. If you have no interest in world politics, you may find this class boring. Come to class because there will be pop quizzes.

Don't ever be late to class cos he gives pop quiz randomly so be prepared and you can't retake a quiz if you're late. Overall he is a easy straight forward professor. I would take him again so this time I know what to expect from him.

Good professor and very passionate about the class. Tests are not that bad as long as you study and gives a lot of quizzes, attendance is a must. 3 tests and a group presentation which isn't bad. Overall a good class.

Quizzes at the end of each section but they're the same as the exam questions. Dr. Owen tries to make class interesting for everyone with some boring material but he tells some jokes. He's a great professor that just wants everyone to show up and do well. I would take him again if I was a government major. Highly recommend to fill credits.

Dr. Owen is a good professor. The class is easy only three tests and one group project. He gives "pop" quizzes but he either hints at them or they are after a video or chapter. If you show up and write down the notes you should do fine. Uses powerpoints and speaks much of the class. If you don't like that the class might not be for you.

A great teacher, he really cares about his students and wants more than anything to succeed. He can be quirky at times but it makes the class enjoyable and he is never out to trick you. He is willing to work with you one on one and will never leave you behind. I would absolutely take again.

Every chapter is formatted the same. Seems to be repetitive but the notes are very useful. Also gives a lot of quizzes.

This class is an introduction into the field of International Studies. It surveys the five components of the field. The textbook is supplemental as about 10% of the quiz/test questions are found in the readings. Dr. Owen is incredibly nice and helpful as well as a bit quirky. Class can often feel like death by powerpoint.

This class mainly deals with political theories and their context in the world today, and also touches on international law, security, political economy, and democratization. He loves powerpoints and sometimes can drag on however being a 50 minute class it was bearable. If you have an interest in politics or are just curious take this class.

While he attempts to tell a lot of jokes that are often quite dry, Dr. Owen is a reliable professor who will always be willing to help anyone that needs it. The powerpoints are all the same for lectures, but he is willing to wait for everyone to finish writing before moving on to the next subject. Will sometimes require us to watch lengthy videos.

Dr. Owen is a really easy professor. His class is straight forward for the most part. He has a bunch of pop quizzes but you know when to expect them because they are after each section. If you come to every class you will definitely pass the class. I would recommend taking this class!

I have taken Dr. Owen for International Studies, Global Politics, and plan to take him for Politics of East Asia next semester. He is truly a great guy who genuinely cares about his students. He is a super fair grader and makes class interested with his personal anecdotes. Highly recommend.

Great Professor. I actually quite enjoy his sense of humor. Expect quizzes after every section and a very easy group project. He's always available and loves the subject matter so he can talk for hours about it in or out of class. Don't be afraid to ask him for help. He's very reasonable but don't miss more than 2 classes!

Dr. Owen is a great professor and really cares about how his students do in his class. He is available out of class and gives interesting lectures on the subject. Be sure to look over your notes after each chapter because of pop quizes throughout the semester. He also has a ton of life experience all around the globe.

Dr. Owen was one of my favorite professors I would highly recommend taking one of his classes. He was very easy to talk to and always too time to meet with and address any needs or concerns his students had. He was very approachable and was more then willing to help in any way he could.

As a non-govt major, this class was challenging but still very interesting. Prof. Owen has a lot of interesting stories he shares about his time in the service as it relates to topics in class. He has a good sense of humor and keeps the class going. Would definitely recommend this class.

Random quizzes kind of suck, but test are not hard.

He gives random pop quizzes on the material covered. Understand the theories that are presented and the other information is secondary, however you still need to know it to pass, but the basis of the class is on the information in the beginning of the course. If you don't go to class it would be easy to fail.

No papers. 3 tests. 1 presentation. Pop quizzes on lecture material. Recycles pop quiz questions onto the exams. Uses a lot of dry humor-just laugh and go with it. Sometimes boring, but overall a good class.

His intro. to international studies class was great. He utilizes utilizes powerpoint sides every class but does a good job of not just reading off of the slides. He is a very nice professor and cares much about his students. He also has group study sessions for almost every test if people want to do. I would highly recommend him as a professor!

Very interesting class. Be prepared for pop quizzes after finishing a topic. Exam questions can be difficult but he holds a study session before every exam. Tends to get off topic very easily but overall a great professor, I would take a class again with.

Dr. Owen is a really good guy and professor. His lectures can be lengthy at times, but he knows what he's talking about which made some lectures actually quite interesting. However, he has pop quizzes weekly, sometimes more than one time a week, so you have to be prepared for class. Attendance is also a must so keep that in mind.

Dr. Owen is a cool guy and he really knows his stuff when it comes to IR. Be prepared for pop quizzes though. There are a lot. Some quiz questions are from the book so I would recommend getting the book and reading it! Three exams including the final, a group presentation and lots of quizzes are all of the grades for the class.

Professor was extremely organized and helpful throughout the entire class. The coursework is very straightforward and as long as you show up and take notes, complete the assigned readings, engage in the discussions you will pass with a high grade. Professor is very reasonable and enjoyable to have. Taking him next semester as well now.

Be prepared for pop quizzes every now and then. There's assign homework but be sure to read through chapters in the book as usual. He's good professor and definite know his materials on international relation. He'll tell stories about his travel every now and then.

Dr. Owen is a great professor. He is genuinely a nice guy. He gives quizzes on each subject once you complete it and they are relatively easy. The course consist of 2 exams and a comprehensive final, plus one group presentation. The layout of the course is very predictable which is nice because you always know what is to come.

Dr. Owen is a loved professor by many! He is obviously very knowledgable with what he's talking about. Seriously beware of pop quizzes though, and you really only have 3 exams (including MT & F.) Overall the class wasn't too hard, and you definitely come out of it knowing a lot more!

He is very passionate about teaching. The textbook was helpful but wasn't an absolute necessity for me. Pay attention to what he says and take down the notes. Ask questions if he does study sessions! Expect quizzes every time you attend class, there won't always be one but better to prepare for one. Very energetic and personable !

Dr. Owen is a fantastic professor! I definitely would take another class with him. The class is an easy A as long as you show up, take notes, and study for the exam. He is becoming one of my favorite professors at MU!

There is a lot of reading for his class, that being said you will also learn a lot. I took his Democratic Transitions Captstone class and it is one of the most informative classes I have ever been apart of. Go to his office hours, he cares about your learning expirence.

Dr. Owen is a really cool professor! He can get off topic sometimes which is a bit frustrating when you're in a time crunch, but on the other hand he has some really good stories. All of his expectations are clearly outlined in the syllabus, so nothing's going to come at you out of left field. All in all a solid professor who cares about students

Good professor Not a lot of homework besides reading and studying for pop quizzes

Quizzes are given weekly, but if you study the notes before the quiz you will be fine. The tests can get tricky so just make sure to study well for them. Good professor and is willing to help you out.

He combines the concept based lectures with enriching real world experience and interesting stories.

If you come to class on time, pay attention, and give your notes a once-over before class you'll do well. Participate and pay attention; topics are usually interesting. He talks about Thailand a LOT.

Dr. Owen keeps you engaged with the topic. He is very honest and gets excited about interesting facts that he wants to tell you. Quizzes can be tricky, so watch out for that!

Dr. Owen is a great professor. This is my second course I have taken with him and his lectures are amazing and give you a perspective on the real world. My only concern is him not returning work in a timely manner, but that is usually because he will grant the class an extension if they ask for it.

He is a decent professor and you will learn about different regions of the world. He obviously has a favorite region and talks about it a lot. He can easily get off topic but overall was an okay class. If you are looking for an easy A though, I would find a different class.

This guy is a goofball. He loves Thailand and will reference Thailand and China CONSTANTLY throughout the course. I feel like he didn't really discuss "global" politics, it was more China and Japanese politics, which is fine because I still learned a lot. Very nice guy and I really appreciated his humor and thoughtfulness. Lots of quizzes though

Professor is quite knowledgeable and the classes are interesting. He gives a lot of pop quizzes in this course so be prepared. This is an interesting class about things outside of America.

This was a great class on China! There was no quiz, only discussion posts. The course was writing intensive, don't take if you hate writing, FWIW he is a fair grader. Graded on discussion posts (two a week) and the final paper, which you have freedom to choose any topic related to China (he has to approve it, but you have wide discretion).Loved it.

I loved Dr. Owen, his classes were almost always fun and engaging. The class didn't have a heavy workload but his tests were very difficult. Over 70 questions on every test, all multiple choice. Class average was like mid 70s. I'd still recommend him because of how good his lectures are.

I really enjoyed Dr.Owen's class. He gives a reasonable amount of work and as long as you watch the lecture and participate in the discussions properly you'll get a good grade. Don't take this class if you don't like writing or don't have good time management skills.

Class was weekly discussion posts and a research paper. His lectures are always very interesting and the discussion posts are 300 words + 150 word response to someone else. He leaves comments on your post asking some probing questions, which is nice because some online classes the professor rarely interacts with you. Great prof and good class
