Dr. Pearson is a good teacher. His lectures are interesting-- which is hard to do in a big lecture class. He brings in real life examples. His tests are hard in that you have to think and not necessarily memorize. He's very helpful when you come to office hours, though. His extra credit is helpful.

Pearson has great stories, which help keep the class from being boring. Tests are all lecture, no book, and the questions are things that are maybe only covered verbally in class - i.e. not in the powerpoint notes that he posts online. The tests are definitely harder than they should be, so do the extra credit when he offers it.

In my five years at Asu I never got less than an A except in his class I bearly sqeaked by with a B. I got a B. Pearson was more electrifying and interesting. Exams based on lecture, book, and some common deduction. Caused me to think about science, math, and philosophy systems. they have differences. -Bads: didn't like exams, cramped exam rooms, students reaking like smoke or being disruptive. Easy to get a B but not an A due to a very biased TA.

Do not take him if you're just looking for a science credit!! Exams are impossible to study for and are all critical thinking. Nearly half the class fails the first one. The book is completely useless,he teaches at a pace in which he thinks everyone has a ton of background knowledge on the subject and his notes are just a small piece of the puzzle.

I'm a junior in the business school. I like this class a lot. In the lab, we get to play with bugs, play with squid-ovaries, and draw animal skulls. I recommend BIO 100. It's super fun.

He is a great teacher with a lot of enthusiasm for the subject. He likes to always find the connection between real life and how we can apply the material to whatever field we choose (even Business Majors), which keeps it interesting. Lots of fun facts too. A flat-out great teacher.

Passionate about his subject. Talking about Tiger Beetles is...zzzz.... what? Test? Tests are sort of difficult, but not if you pay attention, go to class (listen) and do his study guide. The most important part of the class is the lab. People with a good TA like this class more than those that don't have a good TA. Recommended, but find a good TA.

Best Teacher! But exams are really hard because the study guides he makes do not follow the exam. tests are hard just pay attention to the lectures and TP questions

Its harder than you think for 100 level class, it is all about critical thinking. but he never shows you how he expects you to get the answers. People are struggling in the class. Teachers change half way during the class. Study all your notes, not just the study guide. If you have a good Lab TA then it helps. Do all the extra credit offered.

Dr. Pearson makes his lectures easy to sit through and he delivers the information with a lot of clarity. I enjoyed this class while he was teaching it, but he left in the middle and the new Professor is NOT interesting!! Go to lecture, use Dr. Pearsons notes he puts on blackboard, study with a group, go to review sessions, do good in lab

As a teacher, I found him really interesting, and thought he did a good job. As long as you study the study guides, and attend class the majority of the time, you can do pretty well. With him it's all about the concepts, so make sure you go to the review sessions and meet up with other students to make sure you understand them.

Fun professor! Lectures are easy to sit through when he's talking, and the exams are all critical thinking but not too difficult. People struggle because they expect to be spoonfed everything, but its interesting... until the second professor takes over the class midway. She's awful but her info is all middle school review so not tough

Interesting class but very har professor. Should be a 200 or 300 level class. The best advice is go to the test reviews! and do all the extra credit offered. Do not see him during office hours if you can help it hes very rude and tends to act like you dont know anything.

Professor was a nice person but the class was a bit tough. It required alot of outside reading and studying. He really expected you to know your stuff and commit alot of time to the class. It is a 400 level course so I guess that's expected. His style of examinations were a bit different and I felt that he didn't give enough time.Would not take again.

How could a 100 level course be so damn difficult? NO curve, everyone struggled! I am an A student and got B's and C's on his tests. Nothing from the study guide is on the tests!! You have to select the "best answer" out of a list of answers that all seem correct! His voice is so monotone I cant understand him whatsoever! Do not take this teacher!!

Dr. Pearson is brilliant in biology. He is extremely qualified. If you study the notes he provides, attend lecture, read the assigned articles, and actually prepare a little for the exams, you'll do fine. He doesn't expect you to memorize biology, just to be familiar enough with the concepts to be able to logically deduce the answer on the exams.

People are completely overreacting to the difficulty of this course. The tests were far from impossible (I got 100s on two of them). His material is generally easier to grasp than Hamilton's, but his lectures can also get a bit boring. He seems like a nice guy, though, and seems to take a great interest in Biology.

This class is a big joke. The assignments has almost nothing to do with the tests. I regret taking this class. Do not take it unless critical thinking is your passion. His slides are too fast and thinks we are already experts in this course when we first enter.

Pearson is a boring lecturer to listen to, and the subject sucks, but the class satisfies an SQ. The class really isn't that hard, but for a 100 level, they do expect a lot from you. Clicker questions are worth enough points that you need to go to class. All in all, this class isn't terrible, but it's not great either.

He loves "critical thinking", which he mentions about 1,000 times through-out the class. Very interesting perception of biology. He was a nice, and made slightly funny comments during class. Class is basically mandatory because of clicker points. Not impossible, but wouldn't recommend for a 100 level elective (like I took it as).

Dr. Pearson is a wonderful professor. He is enthusiastic about his field, the field trips are a blast, and he makes subtle jokes that are quite funny if you pay attention. He is tough about grading because it is an UD class, but once you get the hang of it, his exams are easy! Exams are all about thinking like a biologist not just memorization!

Like doing long labs that are irrelevant to the test? Like a huge workload? Like extremely hard tests? Then this is the class for you. Conclusion: extremely hard and time consuming for a 100 class.

He's an entertaining old dude. Attendance isn't mandatory but he almost always has extra credit opportunities for students in attendance. There's a fair amount of homework but none of it is very difficult. If you show up to class and participate in the lecture and exam reviews you shouldn't have to spend much time studying at all.

The typical BIO 100 course. He is very passionate about his work and speaks so many languages! Very smart man. Participate and show up! Even out of a 100 person class, he notices your absence! 4 exams and a final. Even if you bomb the tests, there are many bonus points available, just show up.

It's always refreshing to have a passionate and dedicated professor, which Pearson definitely is. While lectures aren't very relevant to test material, they are usually interesting and class is worth attending for extra credit points. Quite a bit of easy but time consuming homework and labs. Overall, this class is worth it to take to get your SQ

Class was very educational and the teacher taught about real world applications of biology. He lectured on controversial topics and presented both sided to arguments allowing students to choose for themselves. Most of the homework was short papers and labs and the labs could be time consuming. For tests go to SI and you will get an A.
