Very good, specialist on Middle East. Lots of reading, great fun, good class
Good teacher
A walking Book of Knowledge. A real brain!
What a talent! What a brain! He is smarter than than all of my other professors combined! And that is only using half of his brain!
very inspiring

Bro. Peck is the one of the best professor's I have ever had. He is extremely smart and can answer any question you may have. If you have the chance take him, you will not regret it.
A little on the hard side in the upper-divisions but definately one of the most inspiring teachers I've ever known.
Good professor. However, like most of my previous liberal professors in California, he utilizes the student's lack of knowledge and indoctrinates them with left-wing propaganda.
Very intelligent. Very interesting
One of the most amazing teachers I've ever had. He has so much knowledge on everything and is never scared to tell the class how he feels on every subject. Knows what he's talking about and incorporates just enough religion to make a well rounded class
He was and awesome teacher with great discussions. I enjoyed the material, but you have to do a lot of work to get a good grade in his class.
GREAT AWESOME WONDERFUL TEACHER! THIS GUY IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE SMARTEST PROFESSORS ON CAMPUS! I LEARNED TONS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

One of the hardest classes I have ever taken, but the most rewarding. I worked hard, but it was worth it! Great man, cares about his students - and they know it! Works hard to make sure students are successful.
Great teacher that really knows what he is talking about because he has experienced most of it. In order to succeed in his class you just have to keep up with the study guides and easy reading. His lectures are very informative and his tests and quizzes come straight from the stufy guides. Likes to have fun and make his class as easy as possible.
Very easy online class. Gives all questions to final in workbook so it is just memorization. Mispelled a few things which made it kinda difficult to find but other than that is was rather easy.
SUCH AN EASY ONLINE CLASS!! The workbook can be superficially done, pass/fail but I enjoyed the work so I ended up doing it thoroughly. You have all the answers to the final beforehand so it is just a matter of memorization. easy a.
Wow, what a hard class...but rewarding. I learned so much from Brother Peck. He's one of the most intelligent teachers on campus and actually gives you work that will make you think. I feel that he has not only taught me content, but also expanded my capacity for learning.
I really liked the guy. He makes you think
Class was amazing! Content was difficult to understand at times but Peck does an excellent job of explaining the material. Very kind professor who is willing to help. Be prepared for a lot of work. There were five tests, the content of which was mostly essay. However, you will learn a lot in the class if you can handle the work!
Online World Civ is the hardest class I have ever taken. I kept trying to go get help from him and he never helped! EVER! I have been trying for 3 semesters to get my grade fixed because the syllabus says the wrong thing. Study the online quesitions.
He is SOOO well learned. He LOVES history and LOVES to teach everyone. His concepts are a little difficult to understand sometimes, but if you ask him he will try and clarify them for you.
Peck is a great teacher--willing to work with students. He usually assigns several chapters from books, one or two papers, and 4 or 5 tests throughout the semester. The tests aren't bad--you just have to prepare for them, and he is more than willing to help all students. I enjoyed this class.
Quiz questions are misleading. There is always a tech problem with the online quizzes resulting in confusion for students. It also takes him a long time to fix quiz grades if there was a mistake on the quiz. He is a good teacher but he just gives poor quizzes. Also, you'll be swamped with a lot of work in this class. I don't recommend this prof.
Very nice guy, fair and helpful but this class is SO MUCH WORK! Long assignments that will take you hours to complete. Test questions are unclear and confusing. Very nice guy, concerned about your education, but I would recommend someone else.
He is amazing!
Professor Peck is the BEST teacher at BYUI. He is moderate in his political views but he allows others to have their views and then he will say, "Ok, now what about this." By him saying that he really gets you to think. If you can get in a class of his, you will LOVE it. BEST TEACHER AT BYUI
Very intelligent. Books are way expensive. Tons of reading both online and books. Make sure you give yourself an extra hour for homework.
Brother Peck knows what he's talking about, but I took this class at 7:45 from him and fell asleep almost every morning because he gives PowerPoints pretty much every day. He gives really long assignments (reading, online presentations) every day which I found hard to complete. I would recommend a different teacher (I loved Bro. Bryce Mecham).
I took a class from him before I transferred to BYU. He is probably the best professor at BYU-Idaho. His lectures are captivating and he allows for all sides of the political spectrum to be heard. History 201 is a great class to take from Peck, but his true passion is in the Middle East. Take any class you can from the gentlemen.
I liked this professor for this class, tries to engage the students in conversation.
Brother Peck is an amazing teacher. I actually want to go to his class. It is not the easiest class in the world, but don't let that scare you. He really makes you think. He is EXTREMELY SMART! Easily one of the smartest teachers at BYU-I. There is a lot of homework, average of about 1-2 hours 3 nights a week. WLDFD 201 with Peck is incredible!
Great guy, try's to help, and knows his stuff. His Middle East class? AVOID AT ALL COSTS Unless you like leaving his class every day to have a panic attack. There was just no way, other than stopping time, or being a genius to be able to keep up with him in this class. Instead of learning a lot I stressed out a lot. I hated every day I attended.
This professor is an awesome professor! He is always willing to help you out if you go and talk to him. He is very organized in his teaching and is cool to learn from.
He's so passionate about other cultures especially Islam that you almost may feel he is trying to convert you to this religion. But in a good way, brought new understanding to me about Islam and I highly respect this religion. He's easy and captures your attention immensely even at 9 in the morning!
One of my absolutely favorite teachers on campus I loved this professor and his class. Don't let the comments about the work load scare you away from this teacher. The class was put together by a committee and they decided how it was so it doesn't matter what teacher you choose you won't get away from it. I loved this class and suggest him to all.
Bro. Peck is one of THE best History teachers I have ever had! He really knows his stuff when it comes to World history and has experience in almost all of the countries he teaches about. He is very willing to answer any questions that you may have. I strongly recommend him for the World Foundations classes!
Perhaps the most intriguing and thought provoking class Ive been in. Makes you think and rethink your views on politics and sense of moral compass. Lessons are based off of current events and goes along with what interests the students. Easy class but focused on the growth of the student as a person.
Knows a lot about the course but has a hard time relaying on a understandable level with students. lots of busy work.
Peck is the most well rounded man I've ever met. He has several degrees including a law degree and teaches voice lessons. The man is a genius. Very down to earth. Knows his stuff and has been to just about every country in the world. He speaks a lot of different languages fluently. Very educational class. He is fair He is a really good guy
Passionate about the course. Amazing at communicating ideas about the world we live in. Class is fairly straightforward, do the preparation and you'll do well.
He is a really smart man but expectations are at times unrealistic. His tests were difficult and he did not explain things well to us. He assumed we understood everything but we didnt...thats why we took the class. When our class's first test came out it was at a 34$ average and he got really upset at us. Everyone struggled in this class. YIKES.
I have taken two classes from Dr. Peck. He is a genius! His class is easy and very instructive. my only regret is that I am a Biology major and have now taken all the classes that I can from Dr. Peck. If I could I would take many more classes from him because he is an excellent teacher and a very intelligent man.
Wonderful teacher! Very passionate about world history and the gospel. Relates everything back to the gospel and makes sure you understand. Tests are a little hard but he is great about curving and adjusting final grades to where it is impossible not receive an A if you show up to class. My favorite teacher here at byui!
Easily the best professor I've had at BYUI. He strives to give students a real college education, which is challenging, but so rewarding. If you make an effort in his classes, you will learn more than you ever imagined you could about the subject and about yourself as a student. Visit him frequently and ask for help when needed.
Incredible, incredible teacher. Take him if you really want to learn something this semester. Easily one of my favorites.
I really liked him. This was my second class with him. He is a true college professor. He requires us to act and think like college students. He has a real enthusiasm for the subject and it transferred to me too.
Bro. Peck is an inspiring teacher. His class looks hard at the beginning, but the study guides are the guidelines for the exam. Bro. Peck is willing to work with the class to be the most fair he can and his TAs are extremely helpful. This class will blow your mind and increase your love for music history.
Brother Peck really knows what he is talking about. There is a LOT to learn in this class, but as long as you do the study guides and review regularly, then the clicker quizzes aren't that bad. This class was a lot of work, but I learned a lot.
I did not like Brother Peck. His teaching style and attitude about everything just bugged me, but I think it was all just personal. Everyone else seems to enjoy the class. It was hard at first - don't forget your I-clickers! Just use the study guides for the test and you will be fine. Once you get into the routine of the class it is fine.
His class is completely pointless, all he does is brag about all his adventures all the time, he is not helpful and acts like a know it all. He doesn't discuss anything relevant in class. He is lazy and makes this class as easy as possible for him to grade, only two grades, midterm and find.l. No credit for attendance and no assignments. AVOID!
Fantastic class and amazingly intelligent professor! Dr. Peck really knows his history. He is very willing to work with students and explain events clearly and accurately. He requires his class to be responsible for their own preparation and learning - a true college course.
I really enjoyed his class but was a little peeved when all our grade was based on the Mid-term and the Final. Doesn't respond to e-mails very well, either.
Brother Peck is a great teacher. The class discussions were insightful and meaningful. The homework isn't terribly hard, but it does help you learn and think about class topics outside of class. I loved this class and Brother Peck was amazing.
It seems Dr. Peck comes at this job with good intentions. That being said I think he needs to hang it up as far as teaching goes. Or figure out how to clarify what he teaches and to make it more interesting. His tests are written lazily and easy for him to grade. A teachers job is to inspire people to learn not to confuse and discourage them.
Dr. Peck seems like he forgot what it is like to be a student. He thinks you should be on a master level like him of understanding what he is teaching. He rails against multiple choice tests and posting grades. He says with those options students can scam the system. I do not think an attitude like that lends itself to being a great teacher.
Brother Peck is an amazing teacher, and I really enjoyed being in his class. He's very entertaining and funny, and likes to make goofy references all the time. The quizzes aren't hard, but the exams and essays are. The topics of the essays are interesting, but are graded pretty harshly.
There's a lot of work outside of class, but the discussions in class are great. He's very passionate about what he's teaching, and he loves questions. However, he also loves answers to his own questions, so make sure you really study the material in depth. The class is a ton of work, but he's a good teacher.
I strongly disliked this teacher. I think he has great intentions and cares about his students but his teaching style was not my favorite. He is so arrogant and talks about himself all through his lectures. and it didn't help me one bit with my tests. He was pretty confusing, never stayed on the schedule and his test were so abstract and hard.
Hist 222 was the most difficult class I took this semester, but also the one I enjoyed the most. A lot of students got really upset that Dr. Peck requires you to actually LEARN the subject matter. Tests are all short-essay. He gives a term, and you write all you can about it. There's a TA that gives regular study sessions, and there is extra credit
Music history was not one of my favorite classes, but I loved the professor. He's very down-to-Earth and honest. You'll need to remember dates, so be prepared.
Like some other people have said, Brother Peck really knows his stuff, but I found his class very confusing. His online quizzes sometimes don't line up with what's in the text - so be prepared to miss quiz questions even though you are right. He doesn't have much sympathy for these discrepancies (even though HE wrote the text book).
I would talk and discuss matters of history with Brother Peck anyday. He's not a bad teacher. However, he will often think he says things, which his TA says he did, but he never did. He hates long pauses and will be condescending as a way to get you to respond. What is discussed in class for any projects doesn't correlate with what he expects.
Brother Peck is nice person, however, he has too high of expectations of us. Yes, I understand history is a lot of memorizing, but this is ridiculous. The amount he expects us to memorize is too much considering we're just learning this and its only a 14 week course. I think he believes that our lives revolve around only is class.
NO NO NO NO NO. This guys sucks alright? He expects you to memorize huge amounts of information, doesn't stay on topic in class, and the curriculum is completely destroyed. He doesn't care about you at all. This was class yesterday "I do not care about anyone's education in this classroom." none of the quizzes you take matter, only the tests.
This class is ridiculous because of the large amount we have to memorize and how little time we have to do it. The class is totally disorganized, and the homework or on-schedule topic is rarely discussed in class . He expects way too much, and says we should be on his level. This class is practically a graduate level course. SAVE YOURSELF.
Requires you to memorize TONS for his comprehensive, handwritten exams. Homework is posted late at night the day before it is due. Class is him ranting about nothing regarding the exams and you're then expected to spend hours in study sessions with his T.A to learn the material that should be taught by him in class.
He is late on getting the homework up, and expects you to learn "on your own" and to "own your grade." His tests are a TON of memorization and just ridiculous. He rambles in class and doesn't teach what you need to know for the test in class. You have to go to study sessions outside of class in order to TRY to get an A. Avoid him at all cost.
Brother Peck is a really nice guy, and really loves the subjects he teaches about. But he goes off on tangents... a lot. The only thing that matters is the quiz you're graded on. His tests had the exact same questions as the quizzes did. He gave no feedback on any of my essays, and you can't check your grade online. I wouldn't take from him again.
I made the mistake of thinking i could cruise by in two of his classes this last fall. Let me say this, he isn't very organized, and his TA does the grading. This semester we often didn't have homework ready until late the night of, the assignment weren't clear. His tests extremely hard, you must have a great Memory to pass.
I took him for Pakistan and it was great! He is very passionate about what he teaches. He accepts late work with no penalty and he cares about his students a lot. He had several guests come in to teach the class who had been to Pakistan and he had a good variety of teaching methods. He's usually a religion teacher.
Brother Peck is very unorganized and isn't clear on what he wants. His assignments aren't straightforward and he doesn't provide clear instructions. He also wants "400 level work" (it's a 200 level class). The weekly homework wouldn't become available until late the night before its due (8 am the next morning) so getting ahead was not an option.
The two things that would have made this class better, would've been for Brother Peck to specify what he wants, and to provide feedback on assignments. However, if students ask him, he will help them as long as he is made aware. He knows his material- and prefers conversation instead of long lectures. Attendance is advised.
He is not the most organized, but knows so much about the subject matter. The class really wasnt that difficult. The students make stuff seem more complicated than it actually is. Just study hard for the tests, do your daily readings, and you can get an A pretty easily.
Easiest, kindest, most passionate professor I have ever had! If you can't pass his class, you're literally not paying any attention.
Dr. Peck is a great guy. There is so much that he wants to teach students, not just about history, but about life and other cultures. We need more professors like him who will stand up for others, and show love towards all. Its pretty easy to get an A in his classes if you show substantial effort.
Brother Peck is really knowledgeable, but he's not the best teacher. There is heavy reading before each class, but there are study guides that are EXACTLY the same as the test questions. Not a bad class, but not an easy A.
I really enjoyed this class, it was difficult, but I learned a lot. You write a lot of summaries, and do a lot of study guides, but if you do that work then you will be fine in the class. He is very knowledgeable, and connects a lot of things together for students. He brings understanding to his students about issues that are relevant today.
Dr Peck has to be among the most knowledgeable in the Middle East field, but his lectures aren't even lectures. He gives many reading and writing assignments and says we'll discuss them in class, but spends most of class ranting. His rants (mostly about US politics) have truth to them, but don't have much relevance to learning about the Middle East
Brother Peck is a really amazing teacher. When teaching on the Middle East it is clear that he knows just about everything on the subject, both historically and currently. He's entertaining and witty and will keep the subject matter entertaining. There's a lot of work, but it's all really interesting and you feel prepared for every assignment.
I took the Middle East class. There is a lot of reading to do for each class, and I would attend thinking that we would go over the assignments that he gave us, but he just rants about politics. He shares a lot of opinions and comments about things that do not always pertain to class. If you want to learn you do it more on your own time.
Brother Peck is a good professor. He is a smart guy, and he is passionate about his students. His class was easy and very clearly laid out. The class was 'Neanderthals and other successes' but we spent more time talking about climate change than Neanderthals, which was a bit disappointing.
He may be a tough cookie to crack, but he is a great teacher. His work is hard, but I learn from it and that is really why I am here in the first place.
(REL 200C) Bro. Peck is a super nice guy. However, I often felt like I was in a youth or even a primary class. The only time the spirit was very strong was when he would play videos. You rarely sing hymns to start class, cracks jokes the whole time and just lets all the students do the teaching. Felt almost like I was wasting my time in his class.
