He was a down to earth professor.
Easy teacher. Lets you pick the topic for essays. Lets you be creative. Good personlaity.
Awesome instuctor! Really enjoyed his class! And HOT!
He was the best teacher I have had yet. He didn't allow slacking however he didn't make it so difficult it made you want to give up. He also wasn't boring!
Great teacher! Lets you choose your topics, thrives on controversy. Draws you in and makes you work, great personality for a teacher!
I THINK THIS TEACHER GETS WORSE AS TIME GOES ON, AS HE OBTAINS HIS MASTERS IN ENGLISH. TOPICS ARE HORRIBLE AND GRADING TECHNIQUES ARE HARSH. HE GRADES AS THOUGH YOU AS WELL ARE GOING TO BE AN ENGLISH MAJOR AND THE TRUTH IS 90% OF STUDENTS ARE NOT HEADED THAT DIRECTION. AS AN AVERAGE A STUDENT I HE WASN'T WILLING TO ACCEPT ANOTHERS POINT OF VIEW.
Great teacher! The essays assigned were fun to write, despite their complexity. If you do what he asks you to do and put work into your paper, there's not reason not to get a good grade! Makes the class fun and enjoyable too!
best teacher ever!!! if you need to take an english class his the guy your looking for!!!
PROBABLY THE WORST ENGLISH TEACHER I HAVE HAD. ONLY 4 ESSAYS ARE GIVEN OVER THE SEMESTER HOWEVER HE GIVES A BUNCH OF OTHER ASSIGNMENTS. LIKE WRITING A 1000 WORD ESSAY OVER SPRING BREAK. AVOID THIS GUY AT ALL COSTS UNLESS YOU LIKE SPENDING MORE TIME ON HIS CLASS THAN CLASSES FOR YOUR OWN MAJOR! BTW HE WORKS AT ASU NOW NOT PVCC.
Pegram is without a doubt the worst English professor I have ever had. Over the semester he has changed his syllabus and standards MULTIPLE times. In class he hardly explains what he expects from assignments, and when ask for clarification gives terrible answers or will refuse to answer your questions. He is very rude and makes little to no sense.
Not sure what all the fuss is about. Guy's a terrific teacher. He knows his stuff. His class is probably a little more complex than most comp classes, so you need to attend regularly and pay attention. he doesn't like slackers. As long as you stay on top of assignments and follow instructions, the class is a breeze and a lot of fun.
I really didn't like this guy. He liked to go over everyone's work in front of the rest of the class and it wasn't very constructive criticism. Lots of homework each week relating to 3 main papers... overall just not a nice guy and I would never take another class with him. Very dull and redundant lectures, keeps you until the last second of class.
I took him for both 101 and 102 and enjoyed both classes very much. He is very kick back and creates a relaxing atmosphere. His classes are about critical thinking as much as writing, so keep that in mind.
I took ENG 101 & 102 with him! By far best college professor I've had! His class was fun, which is why I also took 102 with him along with half of the other people from my 101 class. Make sure to follow the directions though because he definitely grades based on them!
I loved taking his class. Since I am already a good writer I doubted that I would learn much. However, I really learned through the different papers he assigned. Not much busy work and great feedback on my essays.
Hes funny and gives a new perspective to writing essay papers. Into technology and working with you if you just interact in class.
Dr. Pegram is a down to earth professor who requests that you do the work for the grade, but he makes it enjoyable while doing it. Work smart not hard and you will get an "A" easily. I appreciated his sense of humour and the relaxed environment made it easy to learn. This class felt like family. Cheers Dr. Pegram!
He was a great teacher really made a basic college class worth it. showed different ways to view movies and applied them to essays. Worth it.
Was unorganized which led to a lot of confusion and unnecessary scores for everyone in the class.
Super nice teacher. Very down to earth and is ver knowledgable. I learned so much from his class. I actually enjoyed going!
Dr. P is an all-around cool dude. Every class was entertaining and made us laugh all the time. The three assigned papers were fairly easy. That's pretty much the only difficult homework you get. I strongly recommend this class if english isn't your forte; he'll help you through it no problem.(See? I told you I'd pull through, Dr. P. )
I honestly have no idea whats going on in this class. He isn't very clear on what he wants done and vise versa. It's confusing as hell and super frustrating. Assignment list on blackboard isn't clear and it's very stressful.
Very rude, not clear at all and no one kniws what he wants as far as assignments, so very frustrating...
I didn't like this guy at first, but then things started to click and make sense. Now I have to admit I have learned a lot in this class. The guy's a terrific teacher. Take him if you get a chance.
I loved his class!
Instructor was careless of whether his students undretood what was expected of them, and when he was asked, he sinply intimitated them.DO NOT go to his class!
He taught a good English class, I didn't like that he was a little vague on instructions and not very helpful. I did learn a lot in his class though. Its a rather simple and easy class.
Dr P was a great English teacher. he was really laid back and the projects he gives are more research oriented. To me, this was better than just writting a bunch of boring papers, so I througholy enjoyed his English 102 class. He also has alot of classmate interacting projects which were pretty fun.
He's a really nice guy, and gave us papers to write about that were actually interesting enough to make you actually enjoy writing them. He also has a good sense of humor and made me laugh almost every day. An A was very doable in this class and by the time it was over, I was sad. I definitely recommend Pegram. He's great.
This guy sucks. He does not know his material. When discussing papers he gives you horrible advice on how to change it and is ultimately confusing. I recommend for 101 just because it is an easy A if you do your work.
I can't believe somebody actually didn't like this teacher. He's the best. I learned a lot in his class. His papers are very different but they make sense. He relates it to the real world.
I loved this class! Dr. P is the man! Super nice, fun, & chill as he||! Always willing to explain things & best of all, there's a one-on-one conference session with him for every project -- it's like an extra peer review only better! Most of class time is spent getting you ready for the writing projects; not much book use.
Horrible teacher. Very unorganized and not helpful at all. I heard that other English classes at PVCC are much better.
Dr. Pegram seems more interested in being viewed as "cool and in style" than actually teaching the class. He is very unorganized (uses same power points) and makes a very rude face if you ask a question as if you should know the answer. Not helpful at all, and doesn't even teach the material you're supposed to learn in 102. Avoid this teacher.
Phenomenal instructor, highly recommend taking his course. Just don't take advantage of his niceness, when he offers help take it...
He was awesome! Easy to understand and learn from. If you have a question feel free to ask he will answer to the best of his ability. Gives one on one peer reviews for every paper. Actually made me like English class.
I took Dr. P for both 101 and 102. Loved him.
Cool guy easy class works with students
Excellent instructor! If you have any questions, just ask him. He is always willing to help. I highly recommend his class.
I took Dr. P's class a few years ago. Not until now did I realize how well he prepared me for future writing. Take his class! And it doesn't hurt that he's cute.
Dr. Pegram is very kind and helpful. He responds quickly to questions even on evenings and weekends. He is easy-going and makes the class feel comfortable too. Plus he's cute.
I really enjoyed this class! The writing assignments he assigns allows students to be engaged as opposed to just researching information. Also he allows peer reviews for papers and individual meetings with students to discuss papers and fix things after they are turned in. Would definitely recommend this class!
Really nice guy, keeps you interested and involved. Moderate grader but you don't have to show up every single class or anything. Really enjoyed this class so far. Highly recommend.
He's really laid back and gives you topics that are actually interesting to write about. He also gives really good feedback on assignments and papers.
I have never had such a terrible professor before. He does not teach what is required in a regular 101 class. He is also very rude and arrogant. If you don't have the same opinion or idea as him it is not correct. You can also only miss two classes and he down grades you if you do miss a class, and is not understanding with it at all.
Great Class, very clear and helpful. Show up and do the work and you will get a good grade.
David is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is very helpful, his class is fun, and projects are interesting. He gives great feedback and is always there for you if you have any questions or need help. I've never went to the optional workshops and still passed with an A. Definitely would take him again!
Great teacher
Awesome professor
Great Class, Great Teacher. Highly Recommend!
I feel like when I ask for help, I don't get it. He's very sarcastic and dry - a little too much and comes across rude. Any time I have messaged him, his response has been short and he sounds very annoyed to have to answer emails. All of the assignment subjects have been enjoyable and I do feel that the grading is fair.
Took this professor for online English 101. The class was very enjoyable. It was the most organized online class I have ever taken. He was also available all the time, because I would email him on Saturdays and he'd still get back to me pretty quick. Plus, there was no textbook required. I definitely recommend his class.
Mr. Pegram was a very fun professor, especially for a 730am class! He gets the class engaged, is very funny, and ensures we can relate with what he is teaching. He does assign a few long papers, but he spreads them out between smaller projects. The smaller projects are actually fun, and makes the papers easy to roll into.
This class consisted of timed quizzes, analyzing articles then answering questions, and 4 essays. He was not clear on the format he wanted us to use. He gave a description of what the topic of the paper was and questions to cover in the essays. refused to help when it was needed. We were not given a grading scale, so grading was unclear.
Tough but good teacher. Towards the end of the semester, he seem to have lost interest in connecting with the students. When he would give feedback, there was multiple occasions where it came across as rude and petty. The lecture portion is mainly interesting and he tries to find ways to make class go by fast.
I would not recommend talking Mr. Pegram if you like english classes that have structure. Half the time it didn't seem like he knew what he was doing. He doesn't care about format at all which he should in 102. His comments on papers seemed rude and petty.
Dr. Pegram is intelligent, personable and very easy to get along with. Lectures are informal, but educational. Often get side tracked by fun videos or discussions of outside class matters. Only assigns a couple large projects that are completed after a few small assignments to help build knowledge of the project. Would definitely take again.
I would NOT recommend taking Dr. Pegram's English class whatsoever. His projects and in class discussions do not further ones learning whatsoever and class attendance does not answer questions or do any good on the students behalf. This professor changes his mind on due dates often and does not grade well. I was very disappointed. Waste of time.
Best English teacher I have ever had. His class is not the same old stuff, but you actually learn how to gather information from your own research and apply it. The class has no textbook, a major bonus. I highly recommend his class.
Great Class. Made all of the projects and papers easy to handle
By far my favorite professor
Took his online class I would not recommend his online class unless you already have a good writing foundation. I am horrible at writing and have always dreaded taking ENG class but he gave decent materials and examples for us. Just make sure you follow the rules and directions for the assignments and you should be fine. Decent instructor
Best English teacher I've had. Teaches you how to write the proper way - trial and error, specific to the individual. We learned how to analyze texts, events, films, and people and how to present them in a proper English paper/report. Very easy if you stick to the timeline he clearly outlines in his syllabus.
I would avoid taking a class with this professor. I took ENG 101 online and he was clueless. He would put the assignments up the day before they were due which defeats the purpose of taking an online course. He also had an attitude when questions were asked about the assignments even though he was the one that messed them up. Avoid this guy.
Pretty awesome professor & has a great humor. Just pay attention and do the group work and you'll pass.
One of the chillest professors ive ever had. No tests/exams just papers and projects. Easy A if you just pay attention, and if you're struggling, he was super helpful and flexible. Totally would recommend him, plus he's super nice to look at :)
Dr David Pegram, is one of the best professors I ever had, been a lawyer graduated in a foreign country give me that criteria to evaluate a great professor , Dr Pegram is always ready to interact with his students and give them the best feedback he can come out with, he is the type of professor I want to have . I would love to have him again.
Had a great time in Pegram's class, he tries to make the classes/lectures fun and interesting.
Pegram was a horrible teacher. He favorites students that took his ENG101 course. The class is painfully boring and expect to learn about the 1960's - the wort period ever. He lacks the ability and competence to provide students with skills they will use in the future. His mom was homeless and his absences from class became the student's problem.
I will definitely WARN who is reading this, DO NOT take this professor because he rarely taught us the format and how to write. Instead, he forced us to write about a certain topic. I would say this is a history/sociology rather than an English writing class. Also, he often post the assignments very close to the due dates.
By far the best teacher I've had at PVCC. He's very easy going, willing to work with you. His writing assignments are challenging but that is a good thing. He teaches a fun class.
I found his class to be very easy, had him for 101 and 102 and it was what I expected. Hes a nice guy though and can joke around with students when appropriate.
Really enjoyed taking his class, He made the class fun and doesn't teach straight from a book (no textbook needed). Also, I didn't find myself under a lot of stress while taking this class.
Did not grade anything timely. Dr. Pegram would give the rough draft 100% and then not a decent grade on the final. Graded a final draft before grading the first draft and gave little to no feed back on papers. This leaves no areas for improvement when there is not appropriate feedback given before the papers are due. Would not recommend.
At times, this professor can be a little scattered and sometimes the class can be a bit confusing, because he tends to either over explain or under explain assignments. However, he grades fairly and offers tons of extra credit. When it comes time to submit a paper, search for the full rubric. If followed, you will get an A. Also, super entertaining
Dr. Pegram used three of the same projects that he did in his first year. None of the papers that we had to write were creative. I felt that I didn't learn much from this class.
Seriously terrific. Very laid back, willing to help. He's good at responding to email too.
This class is not what I expected but thats a good thing. The emphasis is on research and reflection. His teaching style is very laid back and easy going. It's my favorite class by far.
He assigns three papers that are linked together. They each get more challenging but you get to watch and write about movies. The teaching style makes class fun. There is a lot of discussion and group work.
If I had to describe the word "Chill" with a person, it would be this guy. He made the class easy flowing and enjoyable. Things were always interesting in his class and the assignments made sense and weren't that hard to complete. He gives good feedback on the papers you complete in class and is very easy to get around.
So he has these quizzes about easy things such as questions about whats expected on the next project. That was the hardest part of the class. I've never been so frustrated in my life. If you take him you will 100 percent know what I'm talking about. Lots of work in this class but fair grader. If there is an alternate option to this guy take it.
His class is definitely not run of the mill. He really emphasizes conducting your own research, like interviewing. He's laid back and easy to approach for help. There is no textbook! Good teacher.
Hes a nice man and hilarious teacher. However, when it came to explaining the papers we needed to write I was clueless. He thinks he has good material to lecture on but they dont transfer when it comes to actually writing the paper. Hes especially tough when it comes to attendance making it a grade in the class.
Took both English 101 and 102 with this professor. Best English professor.
Dr. Pegram was a fantastic professor and fair with his assignments and grading. If you need to take a 101 and a 102 English course, you'll be in good hands with this professor.
I wouldn't recommend this professor. He lacks communication skills with his students. He wont respond to questions if you email him about certain projects for clarity. That happened to me twice. Never got a response back for help- super disappointing he's not there to help his students. On top of that, his grading doesn't make sense.
Professor Pegram was a teacher I genuinely enjoyed. However, attendance counts as a HUGE part of your grade so do not neglect to show up!! He made class super fun and enjoyable, the papers we had to write were a perfect easy introduction to English and he has conferences often, to give you one-on-one feedback. Can't see how anyone could complain!
I am taking his online course. I really like how available and helpful he is. Emails are usually returned in 24 hrs. Workload is manageable and the material is really not at all like I was expecting. It is more a research methods class than an essay writing class and I like that.
Terrific teacher, really understanding and helpful. Highly recomend.
If it means a lot to you that your teacher cares for both your personal and academic success- take Dr. Pegrams class. I had him for English 101 and took him again for Honors English 102. If you seek help with his assignments, you will receive it. He gives solid constructive criticism and is flexible with due dates. He will bless your schedule.
I took his English 102 Honors class and his class made me want to die. He was just terrible at explaining assignments and giving feedback. I was lost for the most part. I emailed him questions but he seemed rude about it like I should know it already. If you wanna learn anything, don't take his class!
I love this dude hes so fun and chill. Its so easy too feel calm and comfortable in his class he always has things prepared and makes it enjoyable I never missed a class and it was so easy to pass!
With the virus closing things down, our class had to move online and I hate online. But he was so good at offering videos, extra plans, and materials. The last part of the semester was stressful, but he kept things loose. He set up a Google chat for me to explain the final paper in more detail. Just overall a good teacher willing to help.
Took ENG 101 and 102 with Dr. Pegram. He's the best, really funny, super clear on what he wants with grading criteria and things, always accessible and helpful if you have questions. There is a big project due at the end of the semester, it's better if you work on it throughout instead of at the last minute. So worth taking English with him!
I am taking his live online 101. It is a good class with a relaxed atmosphere. I am not a good writer but his assignments make me feel that I am. The class Is about research and not just writing. The assignments are fun too. Big bonus is no textbook.
He is such an amazing prof and I took his ENG101 and 102 Honors classes.
I had all online classes last year and his were the only ones I enjoyed. The assignments were challenging but he made it worth it by explaining why I was doing them. That is the part so many teachers miss. He was always willing to meet and help me in Zoom calls, even at night. He's probably the most genuine teacher I have had. Highly recommend.
I took ENG 101 online with Dr. P. Great class and I didn't realize just how good his class was until taking 102 this semester with a different prof. He communicates a lot with announcements and videos and leaves audio feedback on papers. I have never had audio feedback before. It was more helpful than anything I've had in an English class.
Favorite teacher of the semester
This professor was amazing! I loved this course and really wished I took his English 102 class. I was a little caught off guard when I learned the class would be about identity and sports. It made me think outside the box and I loved the class for that.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Very accessible and reasonable.
Few projects, so if you mess one up your grade takes a hit but it did not take a lot of effort to get an A. Easy grader, but the assignments can be time consuming if you are not a good writer. Great feedback on all assignments from teach and students since peer reviews are big part of class. Be ready to write and get deep.
I would 100% recommend Dr. Pegram as a professor. I wrote four essays in the span of one semester and each one got very helpful feedback. All the feedback came in an audio file, and was very clear and descriptive. He even allowed me to adjust one of my essays for a better grade. Don't procrastinate the essay. 10/10 great class!
In this class, get ready to write about sports! If you don't have much of a sports background, I would advise you not to take this class. However, if you love sports and are perhaps an athlete, this is the English class for you! Workload-wise, I thought it was very tolerable. Dr. Pegram provides excellent feedback and responds quickly to emails :)
Dr. Pegram's course is quite interesting! It's a lot about sports, which I personally liked. You are not graded on a right or wrong answer, as long as you put in effort on your responses to questions about readings and videos and put in the time, you should be good! I enjoyed his class and I got to write about my sports journey. Great teacher! :)
SO many assignments; not hard, but just so many. Takes real dedication, not an easy A. The way he grades is pretty unfair, he doesn't use rubrics and takes off random points unfairly. Gives feedback, but instructions are often confusing. Took this class online and we had to peer review every single assignment. Overall, just lots of participation.
I would recommend picking another English professor instead of this one. He does not care whether you pass or fail no matter how hard you try. Allows extra credit for in-person classes but not online and only gives feedback on essays. You get full credit just for turning in the assignments and you don't actually learn anything.
Cool guy, but not the greatest professor. Terrible at communicating with students, instructions for assignments are vague, and lacks trust. I would not recommend
I was confused in the first weeks and wasn't sure about Dr. P and then it started to all make sense by middle of semester. Things came together and was really happy about the final project I found myself writing. Really amazing. I recommend his class, just have to stick with it.
He is brilliant. First writing teacher to ever take me through stages of my own research and then let me use the AI to help with the final project. Really down to earth and helpful.
Just gave a ton of busy work. Did not teach much. Do not recommend taking his course.
A lot of busy work that seemed useless as some content felt unrelated. Instructions for assignments felt unclear a lot of times.
As a professor, he often made jokes that were inappropriate for the classroom. He also left directions unclear for most assignments, which were mostly, if not all, busywork. Would not recommend and did not enjoy.
Best prof I have had at PVCC. Took his 101 class and regret not taking him for 102. He spends a lot of time on how to gather information and organizing it and not so much on making us write a whole bunch of meaningless papers. I even got to use AI on my final draft. It's a good class.
His assignments were interesting and easy (sometimes tough) However, there were a few assignments that weren't provided with enough clarity and instructions resulting in me receiving a bad grade. Something else that I appreciated about the Professor was that he allowed us to use AI on our final project which helped me significantly.
CHECK EVERYTHING ONLINE. I thought all assignments were in modules on Canvas but discovered late into semester that there was a dozen hidden assignments in the to-do corner that is often overlooked. Very tough grader, if you don't have 14+ massive paragraphs of intuitive thinking, half the assignment is docked points. Very easy to fail this class.
I would highly recommend looking into a different professor. Instructions are unclear and lots of video annotations. No room for creativity. And yes, he will fail you if you do not understand the assignments.
I was really disappointed with this class. The professor set strict deadlines for assignments, but wouldn't input grades until at least two weeks after the due date. The feedback was minimal, and many of the assignments were graded by an AI instead of him. Overall, I expected more from a professor with such "prestige."
Great prof, really helpful and engaging. Assignments involve sports-focused writing, but he provides excellent feedback. unstuckstudy was a game-changer for understanding assignments. Manageable workload, would take again.
He's entertaining but that's pretty much the only pro. The whole class is just tons and tons of busy work and annotations that are impossible to get even a 15/20 on for no reason. The class shouldn't be this hard and he's said a few inappropriate things that would make me uncomfortable. I wish I took another professor, save urself
From a person who enjoys English, if you have the option of choosing a different professor, do so. Lecture heavy classes, and very few instances where we had days to work on anything in class. Grading is unpredictable/unsystematic and you are made to feel like a nuisance and belittled if you simply ask for clarification.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. He is not great at teaching and is very unprofessional. For my assignments, he deducts points for errors you did not make, and he is never clear on the parameters of the assignment. Very difficult to communicate with him; once you get a grade, you have no chance to change it. I would find someone else.
I liked this class a lot. I was confused at first but once things made sense I enjoyed it. Most of the grading is participation credit and based on your own research. Don't take this class if you want an extension of high school.
I was not so sure about him the first 3-4 weeks. But that started to change and he's now my favorite prof by far. I loved the feedback on my papers. He was very helpful and doesn't grade down for errors. Later in the semster we get into how to apply AI in realworld ways. I would recommend Dr P to anyone.
Chill professor. I like that he's more into being helpful than being super critical. He also seems to be adopting AI as a tool for students. There are five projects but only one is graded heavily and that's the one you'll work on the most. There's also a group presentation at the end of the semester that's a lot of fun.
I took this class at other campuses and teachers and could never get through it. Finally did with Dr P because the stuff we did was so different and fun. I appreciated that he never expected our work to be perfect. Great teacher all around.
