Seems like a cool teacher, lectures are very easy to understand, very fun guy and when u need help. :) Totally will recommend this teaqcher!
Very organized. Utilizes blackboard to it's fullest. On time w/graded assnmts 2, u don't have to wait till next class 2c how u did. Makes subject interesting. Lots of anecdotes. High Schl tchr & that carries over 2 this class(Lots of explaining EXACTLY what will be on test.) Seems to genuinely like students and teaching. I recommend this teacher.
He is awsome, Very passionate about his work, interacts with students. The class was never boring. Only teacher to take advantage of Blackboard and use it to its fullest, you always know where you are in class. Funny, Corky, just all around great fun Teacher. MR PETERSON ROCKS!!!
Mr. Peterson is a great teacher. Very clear lectures and labs. Utilizes both Blackboard online system and PowerPoint. Always eager to help and answer questions. Outgoing and energetic, lots of jokes, never a boring class.
THE BEST!
Mr. Peterson is a great teacher. He shares his weekend pictures with the class as well as his jokes. it's important to attend class, take notes, study and you'll do just fine in his class.
i'm questioning peterson's reviews. SERIOUS? he goes over the materials way too fast and seems like he's in a rush to get home. i can understand that he teaches all day at a high school, but common, if you are going to teach, teach well. not half ass it. def. do not recommend this teacher. hey peterson-talk slower, n dont rush with the slides
I love how this person below me is complaining about how fast he goes on lectures, maybe this class just isnt for you, i find him exstremely easy he has his notes available for you on blackboard, he gives you study guides for every quiz every test, gives extra credit, everything about this class is easy, i would definitley recommend him to anyone
His lectures are hard to follow, especially since he doesn't allow us to absorb the material. Unlike most teachers at LasPo, he doesn't go over test questions and/or quiz questions. He expects us to know it all. I'm not a science major, and am worried for my grade. I wish he would slow down, and explain his lectures in detail.
to the person below: maybe it's easy for you, but this is intro to bio. therefore, it should be EASY for all of us to understand, not just to you. he even left early for his parent/teacher conference when we had an exam the following class, and he, i quote said, " you guys don't need a review. i gotta go." what kind of teacher does that?
I think Peterson is a nice guy. However, the only problem I have in this class is his speedy lectures, and how he doesn't go over the study guide prior to quizzes/tests. although we've only had one major test, it would be helpful if he went thru the study guide with us. I have no clue what he wants us to know and what he doesn't req us to know.
This teacher rocks! He's totally helpful in Labs which is such a relief since the last Bio teacher I had totally wasn't! His lectures are the perfect pace, if you print out the lectures like you're supposed to. He sets everything up for you so it's simple and easy to understand! If you ask questions or tell him he's going to fast, he'll totally slo
He gives you papers to print out to follow along with the lectures; he also gives review sheets for the quizzes & tests. He has made it so that there is no reason for anyone to not pass the class. If you are struggling with something he will explain and if he does talk too fast let him know and he will slow down- he wants everyone to succeed.
The best teacher ever. He is extremely organized and easy to follow. All you have to do is show up to class, take notes, and pay attention. 95% of the exams are based on his lecture power points. Very helpful in labs. Tests are fair and easy. Always has jokes to tell and family pictures to share. You wil get the A+ guaranteed!!!!
I see that some of you are complaining about how fast he goes on lectures; maybe you should be paying more attention and not talk as much. He is extremely easy. His notes are always available posted on Blackboard. Ask for help! He gives the class every opportunity to get an "A", it is your choice if you want it or not. Trust me, he is the best!!
Let me begin by stating to those who complained about Mr. Peterson?s management of teaching, e.g. his delivery related to lectures and exam preparation(s) that you need to hold yourself responsible to adhering to his course syllabus! One student commented, ?He doesn't go over test questions and/or quiz questions. He expects us to know it all. I'm n
He expects us to know it all. I'm not a science major, and am worried for my grade. I wish he would slow down, and explain his lectures in detail.? Are you serious? For the record, Mr. Peterson does not want to see you do poorly in his class. He gives you every opportunity to increase your grade points by
final closure...and exercise his office hour ? BE A PARTICIPANT!
His study guides are a joke, they in no way fully prepare you for the exam. Most of the time he puts questions on exams to trick you rather than to test you on your comprehension. He's also on a complete power trip and enjoys flexing his authority. Occasionally he also makes inappropriate comments to students during class. Be prepared!
Lectures are extremely fast and incomprehensible. When asked to slow down and explain he becomes condescending and mean. When asked for help in lab, same result. Study guides provided but completely unhelpful, study guides will actually mess you up more! If you want to actually learn the material, find a different teacher.
he is there to get the information across, not babysit on those that act like they don't care and are disruptive. his lectures are pretty much notes and discussing concepts. pretty easy class, though quizzes can be worded awkwardly. and you must study and read the material, but can be an easy A. lots of extra credit too
He is a good teacher that might go a little too fast but he doesn't like students to do poorly so he gives opportunities to get a lot of extra credit points
Dr. Peterson class is based on notes. Luckily he gives you an outline of the notes every class so you don't have to write to much. If you take the notes and read the book you will get an A in this class.
Mr. Peterson is a great teacher. He is very organized, knows the material and easy to follow. He plays video clips on topics, tells jokes and the class is fun and interesting. I have never taken science before and I am glad that I took his class. I have learned alot.
Mr. Peterson uses Blackboard alot. You print the lecture out ahead of time. This makes it very easy to follow. He puts study guides and grades on Blackboard as well. You always know everything ahead of time what is going on. It makes things easier. Mr. Peterson is very fair and he gives extra credit. I highly recommend his class.
Best teacher. Clear, organized and you know what to except. He gives points for attendence and on the final exam you get to use a page of notes. I learned a lot and loved his class.
Terrible Terrible Terrible! This guy rambles so fast and tells the most off topic, inappropriate jokes when he barely has time to fnish his lecture. We're there for biology, not stand up comedy. We basically go to class to play fill in the blank.... What a waste of time.
He gives you class notes and you fill in the blanks. This is a little difficult as he goes fast, tons of material. Book is needed for a few hw assignments, but not necessary for studying. If you have a question or issue, talk to him b/c he is really very helpful and accommodating. He drops lowest lecture test & quiz, & lab & lab quiz. He offers EC
By far one of the best teachers! His lectures are very educational with a fun twist, his lecture notes are easy to do, and his study guides make his quizzes & tests easy. He's very nice and has a great sense of humor. I hate science, but I love this class because of him. As long as you show up and do the work, you're good to go.
hes funny and nice. very helpful. i like his jokes. he goes super fast but will slow down if you ask him. lots of info. but some interesting. i hate science so it was hard for me. but he tells you what you need to know so its pretty clear. take him and be interested in his plane, life and pictures and you'll do well
AWESOME teacher! He really likes to have fun with his classes. He teaches at Granada and it's clear that he enjoys this a lot more. He is really helpful and understanding in the event of an emergency and VERY prompt at responding to email. Definitely one of the gems at Las Po.
Overall, a great teacher. He keeps all his classes interesting and very entertaining. There are quite a few quizzes in the class, but there is always a study guide provided. There are a few homework assignments from the book and in class video assignments, therefore you will need to attend class the majority of the time. I would highly recommend.
If you take bio 31, he expects more of you than in bio 10 due to it being a core class for health science students. Print the lecture slides B4 each lecture (and attend every class if possible) b/c exams & quizzes generally come from them. Most of his slides require you to fill in the blanks. Good overall teacher tho is challenging for some.
Peterson is candid and sharp about the material and language of biology. Even if you struggle with biology, you should make an effort to be in his class. All around positive experience.
Organized teacher who will help you out as far as you are willing to learn. Print the lecture slides B4 each class and attend each class if possible, tests generally derive from them. Read the labs B4hand, but pre lab quizzes will make or break your grade. Good teacher. Provided a good base of knowledge that will pay off in later bio classes.
probably the most obnoxious teacher I have ever had. Keeps referring to his Porsche and airplane. starts each class with an awkwardly bad joke and is still very bitter about his ex wife who he brings up way too often. If you can stomach all of this try his class, the material isnt hard and he does give some extra credit.
If you make sure to attend most classes and look at the provided study guide for each test you should do fine. Teachers humor is a bit strange but he is very helpful. He is very clear of what is expected and he drops a ton of bad grades so even if you don't do your best it's pretty impossible to fail.
VERY GOOD BIO TEACHER! He is a little awkward, but he makes biology interesting. Every exam or test day he starts off with a joke which are actually pretty funny. IF YOU NEED TO TAKE BIO TAKE IT WITH HIM! he drops your worst grade for exams, test, and quizzes.Don't take advantage of it though, if you really want an A you have to do some work
Mr. Peterson does his best to make the information interesting to listen to and is approachable when you have questions or need a demonstration in a lab. The only thing I would recommend is if you're hard of hearing sit close to the front because he does tend to fly thru lectures and speaks softly and quickly. He is pretty good about waiting tho.
Good teacher. He's nice and an awkward funny guy. Every lecture is fill in the blank notes. Little homework. Quizzes and tests are multiple choice. You have a 10 question quiz before every lab (easy if you read the lab prior to class). Gives extra credit opportunities. Just read his review study guides and lecture notes before tests and quizzes
I took him about a year ago When I first started my science courses And I am now in physiology. He is awesome. Take him you will learn so much and will not regret!!
Mr. Peterson is a really good bio teacher and he is very straightforward with his lectures. Everything in the lecture is useful to study from for the tests and quizzes. He can be very cheesy with his jokes. He is really good at explaining his notes and he is helpful when you need him. I would definately recommend him if bio is hard for you.
Great professor! Super funny guy! Fairly easy class as long as you put in the effort. He's got lots of cool/awesome road trip destinations to share during lecture if that's what you're into. Guided notes for every class and study guides are very comprehensive. 10/10 would take again!!
The class was easy but this teacher talks to much about so many things that are off topic.
Okay, I just completed a semester with him. He's funny, A bit odd,and you will need to know just about everything that he teaches you. I wouldn't recommend looking at his review study guide because sometimes it was too general but what he wants you to know are the fine details. Would I take him again? In a heart beat! He cares! Be pre. to study!!!
He is a great teacher, a bit of a smart ass if you ask me. When you ask him a question he might give you a look at times. Maybe just me. lol But I LOVED HIS CLASS and his kind of funny jokes. Really enjoyed his adventure pictures he shared, guided notes, and all the things i learned from him. AWESOME TEACHER RECOMMENDED FOR SURE!
Alright so the hardest part is the lab practicals since you need to memorize fully how to spell the terms used instead of bubbling it in for tests or quizzes. We do quizzes every lab day worth ten points. He gives extra credit. We fill in power points for lectures. He drops our lowest test, quiz, and lab grade. He makes bio easy to understand.
I had him in high school. He isn't a bad teacher and actually explains things really well, but sometimes his study guide have nothing to do with the quizzes and tests and that's what screws some students over sometimes. Pay attention to his lectures, follow along with the notes, and go to lab, you should be fine. (I also never opened the textbook.)
I study for hours for the quizzes and tests and barely get A's. He tests you on very fine details that sometimes aren't on notes also he has trick questions. There has been a few test questions where the answers don't match up with our notes and he doesn't care. I've never had any other bio teachers so I can't compare him to other teachers.
He goes off topic, had questions on exams that wouldn't be on lecture slides or class notes. Overall, I felt like he didn't care about his students. And god forbid you try asking a question. He could be very condescending towards his students. He also has a habit about talking about his vacations or what he did over the weekend.
The classmate that used this page to vent on their own bad studying habits and blame the teacher for it, you need to own up that you missed class by your own choice and dont try to go off on a professor who gives you lectures ahead of time, warns you about possible items on test, gives study guide well in advance, and offers extra credit, & help!
Petersons platform - Simple and straightforward. Lectures supplemented by a PPT presentation. As long as you have a printed-out copy of the PPT (As he suggests from the getgo) youll have no problem keeping up. A nice change from the usual. Record lectures and do the Mitosis rap! And all the other EC, you wont regret it!
Very good professor i highly recommend him. Gives study guides for all tests and quizes ahead time. lectures are super easy simply fill in notes. would definitely take him again i wish he also taught another class.
Amazing teacher, made me love Biology! Mr. Peterson makes it easy to remember things, and will keep you interested! The test are challenging but if you just study his notes constantly , go to class everyday, and do the study guide you'll be all set!
I really enjoyed Mr. Peterson's class. He creates a very fun and interesting learning environment . He's also very fair. He drops lowest scores, and when I realized at the last minute (my fault) that a test score was entered incorrectly, he still changed it for me when he didn't have to. Exams are tough, so definitely study and do any EC offered!
Amazing teacher! Professor Peterson teaches in a way that's not too overbearing but comprehensive enough that you learn the material. He gives lots of extra credit that really helps boost your grade. Come to class, take notes, and study and you will pass! wish he taught another class :(
I do not recommend this class for everyone. He was really speedy about everything such as lecture, his talking, attendance. He will make you an excuse that speedy talking is because he is from east coast... It didnt make sense to me. He sometimes forgot to do something very important. I dont know why there is no lecture powerpoint in blackboard.
Do not BIO 31 with his course. It was really hard to catch up.
Mr. Peterson goes 100mph. He is a very fast talker. Luckily he has print out notes with fill in the blanks that you pay attention and just fill in the blanks. He gives you a study guide for any test you take which is super helpful. He also has a couple extra credit opportunities that you should take advantage of.
Mr. Peterson is nice and funny but he talks really fast during his lectures and doesn't go into much depth about the topic. He gives study guides a week prior to the quizzes and exams but the study guide doesn't really cover what is on the exams. He drops a couple of the tests which is really nice but no matter how much I study I can't seem to pass
Too hard... to pass. the study guide made me confusing.
Mr. Petterson is such a nice person! I struggled with bio in high school but after taking his class he makes everything clear! also use the study guides make sure you are at class and try hard. this isn't an easy A but it is doable if you're on top of your ish. Mr. Peterson is so sweet and funny! he also give a lot of EC
professor Peterson goes by very fast, his lectures are heavy and gives study guide a week before tests but, still hard to catch up. lab work is all independent. don't recommend taking his class.
He starts off his lectures with interested places to visit, and his lectures are easy to follow and filled with interesting content, not just the cut -and-dry material that you need to know for the test. Great teacher.
Prof. Peterson is a really nice and passionate man.I'm not sure if teaching this class really highlights that. Previous reviews here spoke of a study guide. He never gave us any. Each lecture is 7-10 pages of random facts he lists off at light speed. Each quiz is based on 4-6 lectures. You have to narrow 100+ facts into a 25 question quiz.
He may be a fast talker, but he posts all the lectures online. All you have to do is print them out before hand, and follow along. His tests consist of 4-7 lectures, but honestly; I'm a business major, and science is my least favorite subject. Like any other class, you MUST be organized. I recommend using flashcards. Labs can be done with a group!
He is great. Very understanding. Just go to class
Gives awful first date facts and isnt nice + very bad teacher, doesnt teach
This teacher does not teach and expects you to learn and know everything by yourself, does not answer any questions you may ask. The study guides and materials given for tests do not help as the test has nothing to do with either, you will not pass, good luck.
he was awful the only thing i learned was first date facts that he told us instead of biology
Professor Peterson is amazing. Although he speaks quickly and gives out random interesting information, he makes sure that it ties in with his lectures. He also provides fill in the blank notes which is helpful because everything you need for a quiz and exam is on it. Overall a great class and would recommend giving him a shot.
His lectures were far from boring. He talked about random facts and stories, but in my opinion it just made the class less boring. He also was willing to help out students when they needed.
He has a ton of lectures that have nothing to do with the test. It is 100% self taught. The test questions have very little to do with class content. Block 2 MS is joke and the most stressful class you will ever take.
His class isn't impossible to pass but to get an A you would need to put in a lot of effort. The labs are long and difficult to understand at times. He does try to help. You will need to practically memorize the lectures to pass the tests. There arent any study guides or work that can be corrected. Overall its difficult but not impossible
Tests are multiple choice and entirely based around the lectures he gives. Just fill out the lecture notes and commit them to memory before tests and you will be fine. The class isn't easy, but it is interesting, and he does his best to keep work doable and entertaining. Make sure to get a good lab group together!
All of his tests, quizzes, and lab quizzes were multiple choice using scantrons, and he drops the lowest lab, quiz, lab quiz, and exam. He gives guided notes and is a good teacher. There are 2 lab practicals, and make sure that you study for the tests because that was what dropped my grade.
Took Professor Peterson's class last spring semester and absolutely loved his class! He is great at explaining and keeps students engaged with fill in the blank lecture notes. As long as you study the lecture notes, the lecture quizzes and tests shouldn't be hard. The lab practicals are hard so make sure to study all the material in the lab book.
He is a funny guy. He tells stories during lectures and keeps everyone interested. He gets off topic and usually rushes the lecture towards the end sadly. There are many quizzes throughout the semester, 3 midterms, and 1 final. He drops your lowest lab, lab quiz, lecture quiz, and exam. He does take attendance, and you get points, so show up.
DON'T BELIEVE THE GOOD REVIEWS!!! Every class David spends 20+ minutes talking about a camping trip he had that NOBODY cares about. His exams and quizzes are based on the lectures that he zooms through, he gives guided notes that are fill in the blank but rushes you if you don't fill them in quickly.
He is not funny. The only thing worse than his dad jokes is that he hasn't retired already.
It felt like Joe Biden was teaching the class. I maybe laughed at one joke from the 100 awful ones he told throughout the entire semester. Way too many quizzes for an intro class..
Mr. Peterson was an excellent professor. He had guided notes that basically covered everything you need for tests and exams. However, he does go quite fast through the lectures to some people, so you need to pay some attention. Besides that, he makes his tests pretty easy so you just need to read over the notes and pay attention.
This is probably the worst professor ever, do not get fooled by the good reviews, he teaches horribly, and talks about his personal life too much, he does fill in the blank notes which is not helpful. He does many exams and quizzes back to back. He grades horribly. He is not helpful, he does not allow study guides. The labs are so confusing.
He gave the heaviest lecture with the heaviest notes ever, and would talk about his past marriages more than the actual topic. He does give extra credit and not a lot of homework, but he does not know how to teach, goes through the slides faster than we can write them down, and does not upload them. You have to be in the class to know what's going.
The bad reviews are confusing the difficulty of BIO30 with the professor. One review says "heaviest notes/lecture",sorry but it is a biology class, maybe take a humanities class instead. All you need to do is fill in the blanks...Don't be fooled by the reviews. He gives lots of extra credit, drops your lowest lab, lab quiz, exam, and quiz.Take him.
Meh. There's better teachers at Las Positas that will actually give you the tools to succeed. Our final was 150 questions and worth 300 points and he didn't bother to give us a study guide. A lot of quizzes for an intro class imo. There was three extra credit opportunities which were cool ig. I'd say avoid this Professor as a whole if you can.
Don't be fooled by this professor's ego. Calling heavy notes “just fill in the blanks” is arrogant and dismissive of real student struggles. All the extra credit and dropped scores? That's not generosity—it's damage control for a narcissist who piles on work but clearly can't teach...
The bad reviews aren't confusing difficulty with the professor, they're calling out his poor teaching and attitude. Avoid this geriatric headache like his Ex wife did... lol
If you don't learn from slides, don't take this class. It was difficult knowing what to study for quizzes/exams, but they weren't hard. Doesn't give homework often, and there's only one lab writeup. He gives quizzes every lab, but the questions for the quizzes repeat on the exams. The final is 150 questions though, and worth 300 points.
