Boring professor. Monotone voice and attitude. If your interested in the topic, take the class, but with another prof. 2 midterms and a final. Multiple choice, 50 Q's with a tiny curve. He's not ridiculously hard or anything, but for sanity's sake, take it with another prof.
His psychology 1o5 class is very fun and his lectures are very interesting. We took two exams 50 multiple choice each, but very hard and confusing. And final is cumulative.
The most uninteresting professor I have ever had. Lectures are from slides and are posted online. Don't even bother going to class. However, he is very interested in helping his students and even took time on weekends for office hours.
Nice guy overall...cares about students. Posts notes after class which makes note taking tedious because there is too much stuff on each lecture. Tests are not easy but not too hard. Final is easier than midterms but cumulative. Going to lecture can be pointless but he gives pointers about what will be on exams.
prof peterzell clearly cares about his students and teaching, but this class was EXTREMELY boring. also his misguided sense of humor is at times physically painful. but he's definately a great guy, and he does what he can with a dull topic.
So far so good, really cares about students, genuinely nice guy who tries hard to make the course as accessible as possible for everyone! Mid-terms are made easy espec with the help of undergrad Christina. def take this class!
Very kind, clear, and fair. His powerpoint slides are great, I've never had to take notes. Just show up, read the book, and get a decent grade. Definately reccomend.
He's a really good nice teacher, even though he could get boring. His lectures are online so you don't really need to go, but he explains the slides, so if you want to do well, go to class. He has lots of videos which makes it fun, and his tests are very fair, and reflects material. He's most helpful teacher I've come across. Bonus: he curves!
helpful. lectures easy to follow.
Horrible professor. Don't go to him for help it's all about the TAs. He is boring and korny. Painful to watch he lecture. Reading the book doesn't help. If you're good at taking multiple choice test then you'll do fine but if not stratagize now.
Great professor. He took the time to meet with students, had extra office hours, genuinely cared about us. Tests were fair. Curve was generous. There were lots of videos to mix things up.
very clear lectures, easy to take notes from, kinda boring but the class is easy, all tests are just mult choice
This professor really cares for his students. He is clear and teaches really well. He is funny at times! His test aren't that bad if you really study
He is a really nice professor! He gives personal experiences in order for us to understand the material better. He makes funny movies to wrap the material that is essential for the class. They are super funny!! The class is not boring so dont be afraid to take him. His test are not complicated study your notes and attend lecture review session too!
Prof Peterzell is one of the most helpful and caring professors EVER. The tests were fair and the lectures were extremely interesting because of all the hilarious videos he added (the music during the videos he produced totally rocked).
Professor Peterzell seems to really care about his students, not just for the class but for interests outside of class. Final is not cumulative which is great and takes stress away from finals week. In-class videos were helpful, but sometimes he showed the same stuff over and over, basically the same stuff from his slides.
Professor Peterzell is "Off the hook." Not too many professors teach with as much passion as he does, and it makes the class breeze by. The only down fall of the class was that it took place at UCSD with 300 other students, so huge a chunk of the class was wasted on ending early and starting late to avoid disruption from rude people.
peterzell is soo nice, and really helpful. the subject is not my favorite but the professor makes up for it, he obviously cares and does whatever he can to help students. read and study lecture notes and you will do fine-but i do agree with what was written before...some of the slides/videos were a little repetitive
Dr. Peterzell was honestly one of the most caring professors I've had at UCSD. Just from taking the course you know that he really enjoys teaching (shocking!), and this ultimatley translates into good learning on behalf of the students. He obviously spent a good deal of ime prepping for class every meeting. He prepared his own videos to present
I enjoyed Psyc 102 w/ Peterzell although at times class seemed to drag. Tests were too easy I thought, but I got over a 100% in the class and did not receive an A+. A couple of the videos shown in class had too much fluff and not enough content (guy using colored sand to make pictures). Great professor though, learned alot.
This professor was very concerned with his students. His tests were very fair and straight from the lecture notes. Book was used as a reference. His TA held the BEST REVIEW SESSIONS. I learned a lot and got an A. I would highly recommend this professor and class.
I am not a big fan of the subject but professor Peterzell was a nice caring guy and made the lecture better to deal with by using videos and illusions. Exams are average jsut make sure you READ the chapters. The T.A.(Melanie) didn't seem to really know too much, she struggled a bit and says "soooo" too much when lecturing which can be annoying
I thought Id hate this class but I had fun. All because of the professor who made it interesting. The most caring professor ever and maybe the best at UCSD
Go to class and pay attention and you will get at least a B. Maybe spend an extra hour or two going over your notes before each exam and you'll get an A.
I took Prof. Peterzell for psyc 102 and psyc 105 because I liked him so much. He cares about his students and makes sure everyone understands everything. His tests are pretty easy. Make sure you do well on all 3 tests though because each one is 1/3 of your grade. Could screw you over from getting a solid A in the end.
I gave him a hug while I turned in my final exam. He's such a caring professor!Which professor hosts office hours 3 times/wk?he did!!you can talk about anything with him, even your concerns of graduate schools!30%of the test comes from the textbook.Class is very very very interesting!I love this guy!STRONGLY RECOMMANDED!!!
Probably one of the most interesting and nicest psych professors at UCSD. Loved his lectures, he had a good sense of humor. Tests are straight foward, no tricky questions. Just attend lectures, skim through the book and you'll get an A
Prof Peterzell is the most caring professor on this campus. I've had him for two classes already, and if it were possible, I'd have him for all my PSYC classes. Honestly, he is one of the best and kindest teachers I have ever come across.
Best professor I have ever had. He is so helpfull and caring.. Can't say enough about this guy. AMAZING.. Take every class you can with him.
i completely agree with everyone else, he is such a great teacher. AND this was a pretty interesting class as well. i wish he was teaching more classes this year because i would choose him over any other i've had. he is very knowledgeable and approachable!
Shows a lot of care for students. Very understanding, occassionally to a fault (upper div courses I feel should be a little more challenging). Very knowledgeable and communicates clearly. Shows passion for his field.
Take this professor for any class. The lectures are interesting and his movies are hilarious! Tests aren't bad.
102 and 105 The BEST
This class was one of my favorites! Peterzell is SO funny, and his lectures are extremely enjoyable. Mult-choice exams are challenging, but not too difficult. Reading is moderately necessary. You could get away with intermittently skipping lectures...but why would you want to?? :o) Take this class with Peterzell, and Psych 102 as well, if you can!
Peterzell is awesome! His Learning class is interesting. He plays a lot of videos for better understanding of his lectures. If you take notes in class and even just skim through the book you'll do alright on his tests. He's got interesting style, but he's cool. And he cares about his students. I recommend him. He's a little cutie too.
Professor Peterzell is one of the best psych professors at UCSD. There are two midterms and both are fair, straight from lecture. His TA holds the best review sessions. I advice to go to lecture, go to the review sessions, and read the book if somthing isnt clear and you will get an A. awesome awesome prof.
I love this professor, he is the best. Take as many classes with him you wont regret it ..ever!! he should teach all psyc classes hahaha
Interesting class. Easy after Psyc 108 and 169.
Prof. Peterzell really cares about his students and wants his classes to be interesting for them. He will bend over backwards to make personal connections with students. He makes class interesting by showing lots of videos and music videos that he's made. Exams pretty straightforward from lecture & readings.
Dr. Peterzell is the best professor at UCSD! He genuinely cares about his students which is quite rare. His class is straight-forward and makes an seemingly boring subject interesting with his videos and lectures. Would definitely recommend him for an psyc class, you're missing out if you don't take his class!!!
Great guy, passionate about his subject. Combination of text book and good notes means an A, even for difficult topics.
Very interesting lectures. Good videos that keep you awake (8am class:[ ). Extremely fair and straight-forward tests with no tricks, and a nice grading curve! Text book is just for more in-depth understanding, and not required! He is a must for any psychology class!!!! Not a simple A, but not a very difficult class either.
lectures and explanations are straightforward, he takes time at his office hours and on webct to make sure anyone who has questions gets them answered
He's a nice guy and always willing to meet with students to chat over course work or just in general. Slides are online and lectures are podcasted, but he shows way too many pointless video clips and does not follow the book
If you have a heavy load with Ochem and Bio classes, this class will allow you to get 4 credits and still be easy memorization (of the kt and reading slides = gauranteed 90%). He is very helpful and genuinely interested in what he teaches. It shows with his sometimes corny, but welcomed videos.
Easy A if you listen to lectures and take notes. Test questions are mostly from lectures. The topic is very interesting and this prof makes learning fun through his videos and lectures
Awesome prof, horrid class. Tests are very detail oriented, but that's the nature of the material, not the prof's style. I hated the class but his lectures at least made it somewhat bearable.
Amazing professor that gives an honest crap about his students. Knowing the lectures and slides well guarantees at least a B in the class. Even podcasts his lectures which means you don't even have to show up sometimes.
Lucky enough to get Dr. Peterzell, I highly recommend this course. There are no discussions or taken down attendence, so students will have to make the choice to go to class and take notes. Tests are straightforward. I highly recommend going to office hours.
Really good professor who truly cares about his students learning. Personally, I thought the subject material was pretty boring and had I known what was to be covered I probably wouldn't have taken the class. Good professor though. Material didn't hinder his teaching
He's very enthusiastic about the topic and tries to make it interesting. I had him for an 8am class so he did a podcast for his lectures--very helpful and kind of him! Tests are very straight forward, if you go to the review session its very helpful.
such an amamzing teacher. yes- the class was really easy to me. just pay attention in lecture. or if you cant bc you must fall asleep like a had to at times, just listen to the podcasts, and there you go- an easy A. by the way- the book is so unnecessary.
So overrated. He doesn't reply to emails, doesn't reply to discussions on WEBCT when he said he would, skips random parts of lecture so often lack structure in what we have to study. And, I'm not complaining because of grades, he's easy but his method of teaching leaves you clueless on how to study. He randomly tests things we didnt learn sometimes
great teacher. tries to entertain with videos and humor. but subject is boring.
Great professor - I've yet to meet another professor as genuinely concerned with the results of his students. Entertaining, funny in a really dorky way, and he presented otherwise boring material in a stimulating way. I thought that he was incredibly clear on how and what to study, honestly, he could not have made it any more clear.
I saw this prof dancing with a hot chick at a club. NOT the best dancer - should keep his day job. HOWEVER - One of the most caring, creative, entertaining profs at UCSD. Makes his own videos. EASY if you go to class and are not brain dead. Holds OHs at a coffee shop, gives advice about grad school. Took Psyc 3 and 105, too.
GREAT prof!! Lecture is really clear. Post everything on webct and every lecture is on podcast! You don't reli have to attend class, but you will miss out some of the cool video he showed in lecture. Exam is really straight forward, mostly comes from lecture. Very helpful prof!! take his class!
Class is interesting! Like all psyc class, most of it require memorizing, but he keep things easy and basic! Test is FAIR compare to others. Great video, and everything is on webct and podcast! take his class!!!HE'S THE BEST!
Professor Peterzell is an awesome teacher. His lectures are really interesting and he has a sense of humor that keeps things fun. Four thumbs up!
Got my first actual A with this guy even without the extra credit he gave us. And that is coming from someone that got kicked out of UCSD for a very low GPA. Take him he's awesome, and don't bother reading the book, just go the lectures and your set :)
Took his psyc 105 class winter quarter as well! Had a little bit of more trouble in that class, but got an A for 102! Yay! I would say going to lecture alone will get you a solid B (what I did for 105). If you want a solid A, definitely go over the parts he talks about in class in the book. Thanks Peterzell! :) You are awesome.
Fun professor, cool material, decent overlap between book and lecture, tests are mostly "you know it or you don't" type questions. I'd recommend going to lecture, but it's not 100% necessary for a good grade.
He's one of the best psychology profs I had! He never tests on things he didn't go over in class and makes everything really easy to understand.
very interested in students' learning and doing the best he can for the students. Get a perfect score on an exam and he'll buy you a tshirt!
Its obvious he wants his students to learn & succeed in the course! His lectures are clear, funny and correlate closely with the exams! He podcasts! I don't think I've ever had a teacher who is so obviously invested in helping his students succeed before. He's excited about teaching & is so helpful! His research with phantom limbs sounds cool!
One of the best Psych professors at UCSD. Like everyone says, he really cares about students and the material he teaches. REALLY easy class. I didn't even go to lecture, I just listened to podcasts and went over powerpoints. 2 Midterms, 1 final, noncumulative, all MC. A+ is VERY attainable.
Dr. Peterzell's one of the best! Easy, yet interesting class. Puts all lecture slides online and lectures on Podcasts. The book is not necessary. SUPER helpful and cares A LOT about his students. Holds office hours at AOE coffee cart. Very convenient. Take classes with Peterzell! Great Professor!
Material is alright, tests are straightforward, lectures are bearable. Very generous curve (with extra credit points). I just wish he stopped doing that thing where he asks people to raise their hands in response to all of his questions. "How many of you have seen this before? ..How many of you haven't?" got pretty annoying after the eleventh time.
Dr. P, I'd totally do him. He's hot. And not mention a really good professor lol
Extremely fun class, I really enjoy the class even though near the end of the course he skipped some lectures due to time. Easy to get A due to straight forward testing material and clarity of the lectures. Fun and interactive class. Many examples videos that are exciting to watch and help with class materials. Got B+ w/ 50% effort. Will take 105
This was a very fun & interesting class. Also, an easy A, but very difficult to get an A+. You have to get a perfect score on all three exams to get an A+. Just read the textbook & powerpoint slides, and you'll be fine. Also, he offers extra credit!
Why are people saying this class is an easy A, geez it's making the professor look like he's there for nothing. so I would actually say that no, it's not an easy A. Obviously you have to work your brain muscle even at least a little. But, other than than, man I love this guy. he is so cute, adorable, wonderful. he is smart, funny and charming
Dr. P was a great and super awesome professor!! Class was very entertaining with all those cool videos! Class was not an easy A, you have to at least make an effort to study the lecture notes and attend class. I got an A- though just reviewing the notes before the exam, but if you want that an A, put in a little more effort!
Great teacher, really funny, obviously cares about well being of students, lectures very straight forward, and he breaks things down very simply so they make sense and are easy to understand/remember. Study his powerpoints for the tests (we had four). Book was useless, boring, and confusing. loved the class! can't wait to take another with him.
Dr Peterzell was such a great professor, I wish he taught more classes! This class was very easy and Dr Peterzell made it so fun with his cheesy jokes and lots of interesting videos. There are three midterms and one final. They were all very straightforward and fair. This was my first psyc class in college, and Dr Peterzell made me love it!
LOVE HIM! took Psyc 102 and 105 and he's the best professor in UCSD! super clear and tests are straightforward. no reason not to do good in his class! go to class, when midterms, podcast again, read book(skim through), then go take the test and u'll definitely do well! talk to him after class about grad school, or anything! he has a lot of advice!
This class was one of the best classes that I've taken at UCSD yet. Dr. Peterzell is a wonderful professor and his lectures were awesome! His tests are very straightforward and not hard at all if you just go to lecture and skim the book. Anyways I definitely recommend this class and professor!
Took him for Cog Psy, and he was a lot of fun. He loves teaching the class, and likes telling corny jokes, which makes it all the more fun. Only thing I didn't like about this class were the TA's. They taught a few classes, and were really full of themselves, but Peterzell is worth taking.
Great professor, have taken him twice. His lectures are very straightforward yet contain a lot of information. Always has a smile on his face and tries to make jokes to keep class interesting. Never talked to him in person but would have no problem approaching him as he sends off friendly vibes. Definitely recommended, plus tests are easy.
This is an easy upper div PSYC class. Read the book & go over the notes, before each exam and you'll do okay. Each test is NOT cumulative. He also offers about 6 Extra Credit Points on your final grade by doing experiments (depending on the curve).
he made me fall in love with psyc! i'm a econ major and now doing double majoring in econ/psyc just because of him.
Dr. Peterzell was one of the best lecturers I've ever had at UCSD. Lectures are interesting and he throws in extra stuff which isn't in the book-he tells you which parts to read from the book. Hes very helpful and def knows his stuff. It's nice to have a prof that genuinely enjoys teaching and isn't just at UCSD to do research. Thanks Dr.Peterzell!
This teacher genuinely enjoys teaching and makes sure people LEARN from his lectures. He makes lectures available in podcast, powerpoint, and pdf just so you can get the material. I had him twice and recommend him for anything. A class with Peterzell is guaranteed entertaining informative. Thanks Dr. P (P is not for pizza). He was just that nice.
I have only good things to say about Peterzell. He really is a great teacher, and you can tell he truly loves it. He is very knowledgeable and generous with his time and resources. I've taken him for 2 psyc classes already, and if I ever get the chance again I'll jump for it.
If you have a curious mind and want to be inspired, take this class. Sensation Perception is one of the most interesting classed I ever taken. Dr. P made the already fascinating topics even more interesting by embedding pictures and videos(he makes really great videos!) Taking his class is like going on a journey of exploration and adventure.
p.S. Dr. P is also very cute, especially when he talks about how nerdy he was when he was a kid. He definitely knows how to keep learning interesting. His lectures are extremely clear and informative. Take his class, and you'll for sure want to take with him again!
Dr. Perterzell is an amazing teacher who truly care about his students. His tests are fair and if you study you can get an A fairly easily. He gives extra credit, which was pretty cool. I learned so much from his class! I totally recommend the class and the teacher.
this class makes my day!! I have not received A for a long time until I take this class! His videos are really cool and help me a lot in reducing reading from the textbooks! His lectures were very clear and if you pay attention to them, you probably do not to read the text!
Professor Peterzell is probably the best professor I have had at UCSD. The material is difficult, but if you pay attention in class and refer to the book it's not difficult to succeed. If there are any questions he is extremely available and his love for the material is infection. Take him whenever possible!!! You won't regret it.
Professor Peterzell is one of the greatest professors i've had so far at UCSD. He really cares about his students and I personally learned a lot. His tests are based on the material he covers in class and is very fair so i HIGHLY recommend the professor and the class.
Professor Peterzell is just fantastic. Class is not mandatory since he podcasts, but he uses lots of self made videos and visuals to supplement his powerpoint slide. Reading the book is also very helpful along with everything else he provides for you.
I became a Psych major because of this teacher. BEST professor I've had a UCSD. He clearly cares about the students and about the subject matter because of his homemade videos. Videos keep the interest during class. :-)
He is the BEST in the psych department!!! His lectures are very clear and understandable. He makes his own videos to make the subject interesting and it acutally wokrs :) If I could take all my psych classes with him, I would! Exams very clear so attend the lecture and know material, getting an A isn't impossible or difficult.wish could write more.
He's a great professor and a great guy. Really understands and listens to his students and is more than willing to get into discussions even outside of office hours. His class format is well thought-out and much easier to digest.
Great professor! Took him for Behavioral Modification PSYC 154 and he truly cares about student participation and promotes attendance in class. He ordered pizza every lecture and a band come in during one of the last lectures. I learned both interesting and useful material in his class. You won't regret taking Peterzell :)
