Dave is a great guy who has a wonderful sense of humor. There is much more to him than meets the eye, and he was wonderful to have.

Awesome science teacher. He knows how to relate to the students and make us learn.

Online Meteorology was a great class. You could work at your own pace, and could even finish the course in probably about 7 weeks. The teacher was awesome, and very nice and funny. I highly recomend him.

Probably the best teacher that i have ever had at lakeland since i started there. Makes class extremely fun and interesting.

You are a retard if you can not get an A in this class. All the tests are collaborative and some are also open book and open note. His classes fill up the first 5 minutes of registration. He takes the class on field trips often for the labs to get a better understanding. He gives you the why and importance of the subject for your every day life.

Greatest teacher ever! He makes class sooo much fun. He's also very funny, reminds me a lot of Will Ferral.

Come there willing to learn and you'll get at least a B. As are very easy to get. A lot of field trips and a few tests that are open or closed book and collaborative. A presentation at the end. Dave relates the material so well by making it interesting in a hummorus way. A must take science class if u are a non science major.

Great teacher, very easy, and loves his subjects. There are a couple group presentation, but as long as you try, he will give you an A. Tests are collaborative, meaning he lets you work as a group to take the tests. Quizzes, in his astronomy class, are almost the same, you use a "clicker" to answer the question on the projector. Homework is easy,and he is very willing to help.

Excellent class. Highly recommend to all students willing to get dirty in labs or in field trips.

Pierce is a very good teacher. I hate science, im not a science major at all but needed a science credit so i took Dave, best decision ever made. He makes the class fun and exciting, tons of field trips and group tests. IF you try you should get a "A", really this is a must take teacher for non-science majors.

Absolutely Fair. Probably more than fair. I dont always get A's, this guy doesnt want students to fall through cracks, but still helps just the willing!

one of the best professors i've ever had! he made the class fun and interesting, i liked going on the field trips. if you have the option of taking it with him during the summer, i say go for it. extremely easy to understand and his tests/assignments aren't that difficult

GREAT TEACHER!! I took his geology class and I am not an outdoorsy person.. AT ALL.. but he made it really fun on field trip days.. It was so much better than sitting in a lass doing a lab... really good teacher, If you get the chance.. defentilly take him!!

THIS CLASS WAS AMAZING! I LEARNED SO MUCH, THERE WAS PRACTICALLY NO HW, NO TESTS BECAUSE OUR CLASS WAS COOPERATIVE AND WAS INTERESTED. FIELD TRIPS TO PARKS, DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOUR ARE NOT WILLING TO GET YOUR FEET WET!

the class was amazing! the field trips are so much fun, you hardly ever have homework, theres group tests, and no final! you do a group presentation instead. if you decide to take this class i suggest buying rain boots!

DR. PIERCE IS THE BEST TEACHER AT LAKELAND! He wants his students to succeed and it shows. Yes, there are some homework assignments, the tests are taken in groups, and theres one group project. Also, the fieldtrips are amazing! I am taking his other geology class in the fall!

Best Professor I've ever had to date! I took physical Geology 1100 over the summer and have never enjoyed a class more in all my time as a student. He is easy to understand and follow, very helpful, and you have the best time getting to really experience what he is teaching. Thanks Dr. P, you rock (pun intended, haha)!

Dr Pierce is my favorite teacher at Lakeland by far! Hands on learning is so much fun. Tests are taken in groups. The field trips were amazing... especially Canoeing! We had so much fun & learned a lot. I'm taking historical geology in spring, because he is such a great teacher. Cant wait for another fun semester with him! Definite recommendation!!

This guy can seriously build your interest into the subject. He is a ton of fun and makes going to his class a privilege. I highly recommend, if you go to Lakeland to take either His Astronomy class or Geology!

The most amazing professor I have ever had. So willing to help outside class, so passionate about the subject matter. The tests were all done in a group setting and explained all of the material in ways that the student could understand. Love him, reccomend his classes to everyone.

Took him for astronomy. Very good at teaching and helps all those shy students at Lakeland work with each other and in a fun way. Went to the planetarium in Cleveland for extra credit. He's a nice guy and fun teacher. Relates with students well and wants you to succeed. You learn a lot and also encourages student input in class discussions.

Dr. Pierce is the best professor I have ever had. He is very understanding and he is more concerned with you learning the material rather than memorizing it. Although it does require work, the class is stress free & the field trips are fun and educational. If you're not really into The sciences but you need a lab credit this is the class to take!!

He takes us on awesome field trips where we always have a lot of fun while getting work done. He's super helpful and easy to get along with. Honestly, he's one of the best teachers I've had at Lakeland, and it would be a mistake not to take his classes. I plan to take more of his classes in the future as well.

Easy A

The best teacher I have had yet! Only gives 2 "tests", and everything else is hands on. Great field trips, great lectures, easy A. He makes it easy to pass, but also easy to remember. Do not take if you don't like the outdoors, because you spend a lot of time outside. No complaints whatsoever!

I took Ocean Studies with Dr. Pierce as an online class. The class was interesting and Dr. Pierce was always there, readily available to anyone who might need help. We had work due once a week, and you didn't have to take the final if you received an A up until that point. Would DEFINITELY reccommend this class. Easy A.

I have had Dr. Pierce for PHYS 1500, and Geology. He is wonderful! Even if you are not a fan of the Sciences, he makes it very interesting, and the class is very laid back. I wish he taught all subjects. I would take him again in a heartbeat!

Easy A. Some students consistently missed class and/or turned homework in late, and still got an A. Seems a bit unfair to those of us who show up every class and submit all the homework on time. Great personality and a fun class. Lots of great field trips. It's your own fault if you don't have fun in this class.

Dr. Pierce is a great guy. Doesn't make class too difficult and gives you every chance to succeed. He understands that not everyone may understand the material and will try his best to explain it in a way you'll understand it.

I would take Dr. Pierce over and over again. He is a great guy who really cares about his students

By far my favorite professor. He is kind, helpful, and hilarious. I laugh every time I'm in his class and it always puts me in a good mood. He gives out assignments that are not overwhelming and generally easy. I was in his geology class and the field trips were super cool and fun. You learn a lot from him and have a good time.

His online class was awesome; no due dates just get the work done by the end. Work at your own pace and the only down side is the book is an e book and its hard to focus a lot of split screen time.

Dr. Piece is an awesome professor and I would highly recommend him! This class was the most fun class I have ever taken. You go on fun field trips like kayaking and hiking. Final was a presentation which was fairly simple. Lots of take home quizzes. Goes over homework in class.

Dr. P is the man. He's fun, engaging, knows how to communicate, knows how to have fun, all while you are learning about how that stupid grey rock you found at the park is actually lithified sediment from the bottom of an ocean that existed 360 million years ago. Dr. P shouldn't exist, but he does. You should try him out. Seriously.

Genuinely the best professor this institution has ever seen. I can't sing his praises enough. Dr. P is super genuine and cares about his students. He's got a wicked sense of humor and is all around just a fantastic guy to be around.

Dr. Pierce is one of the BEST professors I have taken so far. He's passionate about what he teaches and makes some of the most boring material so fascinating through his animated lectures and explanations on field trips. Taking a class with him next semester, too!

Very easy class, all online work and one to two worksheets due a week over the chapters read and sometimes you have a short summary to write about and article you chose. Overall, very easy class and very nice professor.

If you have to take GEOL 1100 I highly recommend taking Dr. Pierce's summer session class. There were so many fun field trips and we only met on campus 1 out of the 2 scheduled class days and the other was for our trips. My class had no tests or quizzes, only a field journal due at the end of the course and one easy article presentation. Super easy

Dr. Pierce is the best professor you could have! Highly knowledgeable and super fun! Would take his class in a heartbeat, honestly any class he would teach would be fun. Field trips are super fun and he makes everything a learning experience. Not hard on grading as long as you show up and pay enough attention to learn something! Amazing class!

I took Professor Pierces geology course a few years back and still remember a lot of the stuff we learned and the field trips. I go to miami university of Ohio now, and I can still say Pierce is one of if not the best professor Ive ever had. His class isnt hard because he makes you interested in what youre learning!

I loved Dr. Pierce! It's so sad he is retiring but if you want to take a summer session with him I highly recommend it! He's so passionate about geology that it made class fun, and he always encouraged us to get up and get to know everyone in the class. Such a great guy!

I liked prof Pierce! His content for Ocean Studies was interesting and he engaged with the class often. Wasn't a huge amount of homework, but it would take me a good bit to finish it. I wish I could have taken an in-person class with him rather than online.
