I loved David Polletta. He's a grad TA but I feel is better at teaching more than many other professors at ASU. Just be respectful and pay attention to lectures. He is always willing to meet outside of class for more tutoring and is very understanding of student needs. He relates on a lot of levels and that's why I feel like I have learned a lot.
If you have to take precalc , for your own sake, PICK SOMEONE ELSE! I went into this class with some understanding of calculus and left convinced I could not do math. My software engineer father tried to help with my homework but couldn't get anywhere. Honestly the fact that I passed this class is a miracle. Calculus and Statistics were easier.
The course was rather lecture heavy, but he is accessible by both email and outside of class during office hours. He offers plenty of extra credit to make up for lost points and I think he also does a good job explaining the concepts with the time he has. The course seemed more test oriented than other math courses which is my only real complaint.
Polletta is nice enough and is open outside of class often, but the class itself is challenging. Most of my class was meeting with him outside of class regularly and those who didn't, for the most part, failed. He just isn't able to fit enough of the material into the lectures making it difficult to learn the concepts without outside help.
Polletta is the type of person where if you show that you're trying and have obviously learned something in his class, then you will pass. He's respectful and is willing to meet at any time outside of class. Work hard and your grade will show it. He loves to give extra credit points too at every lecture that are basically free so take advantage.
Great at helping students through tough material. Easy to communicate with. always there outside of class and office hours, which if you have a demanding work schedule, is very convenient.
I feel if you didn't pass this class, or hold a grudge against Polletta, then you didn't try at all. His lectures are clear, and he gives you so many chances to up your grade.
David is a great guy and he seems to really care about how students are doing. He is always willing to meet with students whenever they have the time. Calc II isn't an easy class and it takes most students a bit of effort to understand the materials, but I felt that I was prepared for every exam very well thanks to David. 10/10 Chad.
He's by far one of the best teachers I've ever had. He explains the math the best way possible, he's available for help outside of class. This man deserves an award, his exam reviews are extremely helpful. I recommend Polletta, 10/10.
This man is incredible. Enthusiastic, engaging, and intelligent. Literally an amazing instructor. 100% recommend. Hilarious guy too
Uses enthusiastic lectures to make calculus a little more than boring. This professor is hands down the best mathematics professor I have ever had.
He is a really good guy. He is super funny and enthusiastic! He cares about his student and always makes sure he can answer your questions! He also offers a lot of extra credit assignments! His class doesn't have much work. 3 tests,a final, and hw. i put fair because he explains everything at a very high level that can be hard to follow sometimes.
Was my first math class at ASU and had to drop out due to grade reasons, however I do not totally blame polletta for this, He's a super nice guy but calculus is just a super difficult topic and it just turns out I was not fit for it and thats ok. Funny guy and he truly does care for the students if you make the effort to ask for help, which i didnt
Dr. Dave does a great job at great job at keeping the course material fun (he's absolutely hilarious) while conveying complex topics in very understandable ways. He's super approachable if you have questions related to anything as well. Couldn't recommend him more!
Best professor I met so far.
Dr. Dave is the single best math instructor I've ever had. His lectures are clear, and he explains things in terms that everyone can understand. He answers questions very well, and is super accessible outside class. If you go to class and ask questions, you do very well. If you don't pass, you either weren't going to class or didn't try at all.
Best math teacher I have ever had! Math has always been my worst subject but Dr. Dave was a great professor. Dr. Dave always clearly conveys what he expects you to know on the exams, and he is always willing to help outside of class. The pacing of this course was great and was very manageable alongside other upper div classes. Highly recommend!
Dr. Dave was a fantastic professor! He offers so many opportunities for extra credit; without EC, I would not have received an A. Correctly answer classmates' questions on the discussion board to receive additional extra credit. He is passionate about calculus and truly cares for his students. Study the study guides for exams and you'll be set.
You can tell Dr. Dave really cares about his students. He always did his best to crack jokes and make class engaging. The homework prepares you really well for the exam, and the extra credit helps your grade a lot. He is also really easy to get ahold of if you have questions!
Polletta has probably been my favorite professor at ASU so far. He offers lots of extra credit for his students and you can tell that he just genuinely cares about everyones success. He uploads all of his lecture videos online and attendance is not mandatory at all. I watched the lectures online and never went to class but he still knew my name.
Dr. Dave was a really good professor! His lectures are really clear and make sure that we understand his teacher. He's very charismatic as well. There's no need to buy a textbook, I wasn't able to go to his office hrs because of other classes but he still made time for me. Study the study guides!
Professor Polletta taught material very well during lectures, always asked if there were any questions, and would take time to clarify things if there were any. Tests were straightforward and fair, all you have to do is go through the exam reviews and make sure you know how to do everything. Great class!
One of the best math teachers I've ever had, hands down. His lectures are clear, and he posts everything in a shared google drive (lecture slides and videos) so missing class isn't that big of an issue. He also offers lots of extra credit. Dr. Dave is an awesome guy I would highly recommend him to anyone!
If you need to take Calc- TAKE POLLETTA! He is super nice, funny, very clear lectures, and is 100% on the student's side. He is in your corner as you both fight for a good grade. He clearly cares about his students. He gives extra credit which is majorly helpful. Seriously, just take Polletta if you want to pass calc on the first try. Great guy!
Amazing professor! Lectures are never boring. Be prepared for tests as they make up most of your grade. Gives opportunities for extra credit which are added to the gradebook before finals.
Three tests and hw make up your grade. Calc was the first class Ive ever failed. He was a good teacher but get a tutor if youre already lost the first week because it just builds on each other. I wish I knew my grade along the semester instead of getting a grade just when you finish the class. That would have pushed me more to get a higher grade.
This has been the most difficult class I have taken so far. I often have struggled with math courses in the past, but this was the first time that I was able to pass with an A despite completely bombing a test. The extra credit added at the end of the course definitely helps a moderate amount.
Polletta is very passionate about his subject and very upbeat during lectures. I enjoyed having him as a teacher. I will say though considering I took this class in high school I felt that his way of teaching was more difficult to understand and students who hadnt taken the class before probably struggled much more than I did. Also HW is important
Best math instructor I've had in my entire schooling experience. Lectures aren't mandatory, but they are beneficial & I strongly recommend going. Goes into great detail & makes complicated material seem understandable. Makes it clear that he wants you to pass his class, as he offers many extra credit opportunities & spells out the tests for you.
I love everything about Dr. Polletta, he is a very knowledgeable person and is a great teacher. He provides great support during his office hours and is visibly happy to help. He provides extra credit opportunities and records all lectures and uploads them to the class google drive to view later for review.
Just one word " Inspirational!! Amazing professor.
Prof Polletta was the best professor that Ive had at ASU so far. You can tell how passionate he is about math because its reflected in his lectures, and that makes it ten times easier to follow him in class. Wish I could take him again.
*Alrighty class, it's that time* ... to write Dr. Dave a review. Dr. Dave has easily been my favorite professor at ASU. Calculus was taught at a reasonable and understandable pace with plenty of time for questions and review. He offers great resources out of class, is easy to approach, and is very accommodating given the current state of life.
his teaching is fast and papers are extremely tough
I really enjoyed having him as a professor for MAT266.
Take this man. I took him for 211, but that was not listed as an option. He is extremely nice and makes any lecture funny. He is extremely caring towards his students. I have an extremely tough time with math but Dr. Dave made everything a lot simpler. Couldn't recommend him more!
I took him for MAT 211 (which was not an option on here), BUT he was an amazing professor. I am SO bad at math, and he made the class understandable and fun. I failed this class last semester and received an A- this semester. He tells jokes and is so friendly and kind. TAKE THIS MAN FOR MATH, any and all math.
Dr. Dave is a fantastic teacher, but you definitely need to attend class and put in the effort. However, if you get confused, he is easily accessible to help you work through tough concepts. The lectures are really helpful, and he's great at engaging students. Take him for MAT 211 if you can.
He makes you feel like you're actually contributing to a conversation when you ask questions. I've never felt dumb because of him in that class.
I had Dr. Dave for both 256 and 266. He is hilarious (be prepared for actually funny math jokes) and does a great job at making topics understandable even if you don't have the best math background in the world. Additionally, he is very accessible outside of class via email or canvas discussion boards. Take his class over anyone else if you can!
Dr. Dave is such a caring professor, he is always ready to help, and he explains very well. He is very passionate and tries to make calc 2 as fun as possible. I would 100% recommend him to anyone as long as you show up to class!
He says class is mandatory and has you sign an attendance sheet that he later throws away. Honestly during class lectures it is hard to pay attention but he uploads everything afterward which I watched. Homework has 5% extra credit for each assignment if you do it before. Overall not bad but if you are not good at math I would not take with him
Absolute W professor. He is a very enthusiastic when teaching Calc 2. Even though Calc 2 is a very difficult subject, he made the concepts as clear as possible. Awesome professor! Hilarious guy too!
Best math teacher at ASU! I struggled heavily with math 211 but Dr. Dave made the class very welcoming and enjoyable. Also was extremely friendly and funny! Must take over any teacher
Best math teacher I have ever had. Does a great job making everything easy to understand despite calc 2 being a hard class. Uses discussion boards to post memes and help people with homework. Lowest test is replaced by your score on the final. TAKE HIM!
The best math professor I have ever had. His lectures are helpful and he can explain difficult concepts in a simple way. His tests are very similar to the reviews he posts to canvas, so just make sure you can do everything on there. He is very caring and always willing to help if you have a question. 10/10.
Professor Polletta knows his material but doesn't know how to teach it that well. His class is not challenging and homework is due a day before the exam. His exams are relatively easy and easier than the homework. Final exam is not that hard and is not cumulative.
Professor David Poletta is an absolutely amazing lecturer. Watching his lecture will save you from calculus insanity. That being said, he has a strict grading criteria but as long as you put in the work it is EASY to achieve an A. Everything on the test are literally the exact same things on the homework and quizzes but with different numbers.
LOVE HIM ! I had to retake the class and he helped me through the whole way. Attend office hours and use it to your advantage. He loves to help. I think the summer class was much easier than during the actual semester. It was an easier grading scale ! TAKE HIM
Don't expect any extra credit, curves, or any other type of leeway. expect a homework assignment due every night of the semester with exceptions saturday and sunday. Exams are worth 20% of your grade, and are only ~10 questions long. getting an A will be very difficult for those not savvy with math.
Prof. Dave is an amazing lecturer but calc 2 is a generally hard class. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you go, you might gain favor with him which is the only way that he might boost your grade. He doesn't do extra credit aside from that. You can tell he really cares and he's entertaining to listen to.
The online version of this course, you do not actually watch his own recorded lectures. I observed that if you had a question for a problem that was already asked in the forum, even if your question was different, you were directed to the previous discussion post. I hope this class is better to take in-person than online.
Take him!
5.3/5 for a reason. He is a GREAT lecturer, very kind and funny, hands out a TON of extra resources on canvas to help, exams are heavily based on the study guides, WebWork is a lot, and its more complicated than what's on the tests, so do your best to do it yourself. If you do, the class is MUCH easier. Records lectures & posts immediately. GOAT
Prof. was very responsive to questions posted online. There was a lot of homework on webwork, but it was helpful for the test. There was no extra credit or curve in the class.
TAKE HIM!!! He will probably share a google drive with you that has all class content in it, USE IT! Makes calc 2 wayyyy easier. Plus he's funny and explains things better than anyone.
I don't know if it's gonna remain this way for any longer, but this man had a 5.3 out of 5 rating, when I gave this rating, what more do need to take his class? Just take him, trust this random stranger on the internet.
Dr. Dave is very knowledgable in the field of math. His lectures are very easy to follow. He also records all lectures and posts them if you were unable to attend class for whatever reason. Attendance is not mandatory, but if he sees you've attended class regularly, he might bump your grade. Great professor!
Best Professor.Would take him again and again.
The professor would always, always respond quickly to students asking questions related to the assignments in the class discussion board. He also challenged students to have some grasp of the material before requesting aid. I have a lot of respect for that. He has a kind heart and is warm towards students. Mad respect for a patient man.
Good but I couldn't understand his way of teaching.
He is one of the rare math professors who knows how to teach in a proper manner, ground up. He is too good and you'd know he's the best one right after the first lecture. If you don't choose him, you are doomed.
Professor Dave is the best instructor in math. I wouldn't wish for my worst enemy to miss his class. That's how fair I want my competition to be. Any student in other professors' classes are at a decided disadvantage. You're still reading? Oh boy, just go and enroll QUICK! HURRY UP! This is gonna be the best decision of your life.
He really knows his stuff.
I can still recall the first day Dr. Dave walked in with his charming self, a great smile, the most beautiful shirt, and of course, the math vibe! His response time, the homework, the notes, and the way he teaches every bit of class is incredible and irreplaceable! I can say that Dr. Dave made me fall in love with Mathematics.
He makes sure you learn everything. He makes sure you have fun. He makes sure you love math. He makes sure you are comfortable. He makes sure you do well in your tests. He makes sure to keep his charming smile. He makes sure you laugh at least once. Your duty right now, is to enroll in his class. That's it.
Best Math professor that you can take at ASU! Always makes sure that you understand, and if you do the work, you will get an A. Wish I could take him for Calc 3...
Prof Dave is the BEST math professor you will ever get. He is so caring and enthusiastic. When he teaches, he does not rush it. He also clears even the most basic doubts without being condescending. Responds very quickly to questions asked on canvas. He is very passionate about the subject and is funny in class
This was definitely THE BEST class i took this semester. His lectures were amazing and humorous. Grading was as expected and I wouldn't say that he was a strict grader. It's a pretty interesting class and attendance wasn't mandatory.
Best dad jokes on campus. Uploads all the lectures online and is very good with replying fast as well as makes asking questions easy. The tests are on core concepts and don't try to trick you. Calc 1 is not easy, but Polletta makes it easy to pass.
Prof. Polletta is a great guy. He is clear in his lectures and explains topics pretty well. The one thing that really takes away from Polletta is the tests. The tests are nothing like the homework, but very similar to the reviews. The problem is NONE of the review's answers are worked out only solutions. Studying for tests was incredibly difficult
I did not like Professor Polletta's style of teaching since it was very much all on you throughout the time. I would recommend a better teacher that goes over the material more coherently and not as fast. The other reviews are right, but he needs to change his style of teaching at least for Calculus. He also was for some reason passive aggressive.
very good professor but lectures can get boring/repetitive. Incredibly test heavy (70% of grade) so no room to do bad on one but final exam is not cumulative. Lots of homework but infinite attempts before the deadline. attendance not mandatory but he will only bump your grade if you attend most lectures. One retake given for any hw assignment
great teacher, enrolled in this class by accident (I didn't need such a high math class) but I stayed because it was super interesting and added a bit of a challenge.
Dr. Polletta is an absolute gem and someone you won't regret taking a Calculus class with. Seriously, if you have to decide between him and another professor please choose Polletta. He is extremely kind and understanding when grading as well as passionate about the subject & encourages students to participate.
Dr. Dave is an extremely caring professor who genuinely loves what he teaches and keeps cracking jokes to keep the class lively. He never judges students for asking "basic" questions. He's pretty lenient in grading and one can easily get a B if you just pay attention. He also posts recorded lectures which are useful if one can't attend class.
Makes lectures fun to attend and is very good at explaining topics and doesn't go to fast.
HE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR IN ASU PERIOD.
Best Professor for calc1. Definitely recommended.
Easily the best math teacher I have ever had! I always felt prepared for exams and he was very accessible for HW/test questions. Attendance is not mandatory, but I recommend going to class. He takes attendance and takes it into account when posting your final grade and will bump you up if you showed up to class. Take him if you can!!
Plenty of good dad jokes. Lots of partial credit.
This is one of the top professors at ASU. He teaches super clearly and distributes the homework evenly. He makes a lot of jokes in class I wish he taught more courses because I would take him. You will get out of the class what you put in. I cannot recommend him enough.
Dr. Dave was honestly a great professor who taught the concepts well. He made jokes throughout the class and was always ready to help. He had a cheerful attitude every class which was nice. I wish I could take him again for MAT 266 because he teaches so well but unfortunately he doesn't teach that class this semester.
he's so slay
Tests are mostly multiple choice, about 12 questions so be careful... one wrong answer can bring you down 8 points on an exam. Otherwise Dr. Dave is great at answering questions and helping us with homework. He gives you one free extension on homework, but I have never had to use it. Also attendance is optional, but still helpful if you need help.
Polletta was awesome! He made math much more interesting than high school did, but prepare to study a little more because his 4 total exams are the only things determining your final grade. Final test score replaces the lowest of your 3 exam scores.
I was struggling in his class due to not working on the homework on time, but he was always there to help and wants you to succeed. Attendance is optional, but you can get points for going to all of his classes. There are 4 exams including the final, and if you do well on your final exam, that score will replace one of the exams' lowest scores.
He teaches well and made jokes, just talked really fast and I often got lost during lectures. Attendance isn't mandatory, but attending class may bump up your grade. I failed the final and he bumped my grade to a passing grade. He responds to emails within minutes. His class didn't have quizzes like the other 210 classes did, which was nice.
Great professor, only issue I had was that he explains too slow to my liking, so I find myself lost so many times because he just sticks to explaining one thing for 10 minutes
I'm pretty sure he might just be my favorite teacher/ professor so far. He's really hilarious and cares for his students. He makes learning fun and if I could, I would take him for all of my classes. I did take some Calc before this class which helped, but it isn't necessary. Take him if you can!!!
This is his 1st time teaching MAT 266 in the summer and he did a great job on that! There are 3 exams, no cumulative, no multiple choices, and all 4 questions are free responses. The key to being successful in his class are going to all of his lectures, doing all of the homework, going to his office hours, and studying hard for the exams
Amazing thorough lectures! Will teach you things better than anyone ever did using various graphing tools, especially for the volume integrals sections. No calc prof explained when to use the half-angle identity v.s. Pythagorean trig identities when solving trig integrals as well as he did.Webwork checks his answers so you know he made no mistakes!
Mr. Polletta was definetly my favorite college professor by far. He is very thorough and makes sure all of his students questions are answered. He goes at a good pace and doesn't throw information at you without explaining every step of it and that is very helpful especially while learning a new subject. If you can, TAKE MR. POLLETTA FOR MATH!!
Dr. Polletta was an amazing professor. He was always very clear on what he expected from his students, and has A TON of different resources for people to use. He inspires his class to look further beyond just what he has to teach, and wants nothing but success for his students. TAKE DR. POLLETTA!!!
Three times the charm! It took three different professors to finally pass this class I needed to graduate that I thought would be impossible. Dr. Dave was the only professor that truly showed he cared, used positive reinforcement, and motivating. I wouldn't have passed it without him!
Great professor, available for all questions, patient, explaining everything TAKE DR DAVE
The exams are worth a lot of your grade and he no longer gives out partial credit. Still a great professor but be prepared to spend a lot of time on this class!
Dr. Dave is an excellent teacher and person. He is easy to contact and always willing to accommodate. He offers a drop box with all the content/lectures online so help is always there and if you don't really need to attend class if you are self sufficient. Homework is 25% of your grade, Tests are 50%, & the final is 50%. Very manageable work load.
Great guy, but kind of hard to pay attention. It was his first semester teaching diff eq so I think he didn't quite know what was needed so he explained some topics in much more depth than needed. Do all the webworks (understand them) and MATLABs and you'll have no issues. Attendance isn't required but he may give EC for it.
Dr. Dave was an amazing professor. I took him in the fall and he was super understanding and helpful. He provided a ton of resources for success. Tests are a huge part of your grade so make sure to study for the tests!!
great professor, lectures are very consistent with what is on the exam. very helpful, answers questions immediately in the chat, rounded my rating by 0.4% without asking
For context I took ap calc ab in high school and was nervous to take it as a session a because of how fast paced it was. Polletta was very quick in replying in the community form and helpful. I did not use any of his lecture videos or asu lectures listed in canvas and just watched youtube videos and learned this way. Take him.
One of the best teachers for calc online but it not bad 4 assignments each week take him I recommend
Super nice guy with a ton of personality and charisma. Very smart and knowledgable in math, you could ask him about any topic in math and he'd most likely be able to give you a pretty answer or explanation. Tests are pretty easy, wayyy easier than the study guides for them, although they are useful. Explains thoroughly.
I enjoyed MAT265 and he responds quickly when you reach out to him.
He's a great professor to take for Calc, I'd recommend taking him if you're able, it's definitely worth it.
for such a hard class, dr dave made it really easy. it is so obvious he is passionate about math and he shares that passion for math with his students. i also really like how he took the time to learn students name and how to pronounce them correctly!
David is the best math professor in ASU. Also, he's a nice guy that deserves the best and I wish I could have him for my upcoming Calc classes.
I was initially nervous about taking this class, as Calc isn't my thing. Professor Polletta is so energetic which is great! He knows his stuff well and wants you to learn the material in order to do well.
Dr Dave is the goat when it comes to calc 1. His lectures are very good and he has an online dropbox for a lot of homework questions&previous lectures. I skipped class a decent amount of times but was able to do really well on exams and homework just from his dropbox. Put in the time, because calculus is still difficult, and you'll do well
Dr. Dave's class is very straight forward with one homework assignment per lecture and 3 exams. He goes over homework problems step by step and will answer questions in lecture and in discussion boards. He is super helpful and loves a good pun. This class was super enjoyable, great professor.
I was worried about College math with my first two professors, but this one gave me hope. His energy is great; he's a younger Doctorate guy that gives lectures structured around the homework. I really couldn't ask for more. Not to mention he has a Dropbox with hw help for most of the questions. Easiest A in Calculus I you can get.
Dr. Dave is one of the best professors I have ever taken. He is a great professor and more then that, he was just a great person. I highly reccomend anyone to take his courses. Calculus is a difficult course but he makes it funny and enjoyable. Dr. Dave is the best!
Dr. Dave is the best professor I've had at ASU. He provides a Dropbox with every lecture recorded, and HW help for every hard HW question, explaining how to do it step by step. He does not grade attendance, he gives partial credit on exams. He is super helpful with any question you have and also very funny. Take him!!
Best math professor at ASU. Made learning diff eq very easy, and extremely straight forward. One of the most caring professors I've encountered at ASU. Take classes with Dr. Dave!
LOVE! failed but it's on me. he let me turn in 2 assignments late and runs his class amazin. turn in assignments early, extra credit. Good at dumbing things down. Most problems have explanation videos. If you're bad at calc take him and do extra practice (similar/xtra problems r provided and optional- not lot of hw otherwise). Best professor ever!
Dr. Dave is one of the best professors I've had at ASU. He made diff eq extremely easy to understand, and had very good lectures. His exams are very straightforward, and extremely fair. If given the opportunity, take MAT 275 with Dr Dave. Overall, I really enjoyed taking this class with Dr. Dave! Victory is ours!
This teacher is very easy and has a lot of material that you could look outside of class. You just have to put in work on your side and it should be an easy A.
TAKE HIM! Dr. Dave is the best math professor I've ever had. Diffeq is hard and he is amazing at breaking it down and working with you, all lectures and examples are available in his dropbox, his examples come from homework. He's a funny and caring guy and wants you to succeed. Make sure you understand the main concepts for each exam
Dr Dave devotes a lot of his time to responding to your questions and will give you step by step instructions on how to do a problem when you are stuck. He really goes out of his way to make sure his students understand the material and his exams are reflective of his practice exams.
Victory is ours
Dr. Dave is hands down the best teacher I've had so far, and honestly, I don't think anyone else will ever top him. When I saw the assignments, I thought I'd fail, but now I'm sitting at an A, maybe even an A+ after finals. His lectures are amazing, and he makes tough assignments easier to understand. I highly recommend him to anyone take his class
David is objectively the best math teacher I have ever had, he cares about his students, explains concepts in depth, and is overall an interesting personality. Attendance isn't required + he posts high quality videos explaining all of the concepts in depth. He provides more than enough content on canvas to be successful. Victory was indeed mine.
Hands down one of the best professors out there, really great guy who loves what he does.
Dr. Dave is an incredible professor who clearly loves teaching. He explains things in a very clear and concise way, and his enthusiasm makes class so enjoyable. He also is willing to help or discuss topics outside of class. I feel so grateful to have been one of his students. If you have the opportunity, register for one of his classes!
Dr. Dave is the goat. Basically a super nerd that is very caring and an engaging lecturer. Diffeq is challenging but Dr. Dave does a great job breaking it down and has a dropbox FULL of resources. Exams are mostly from Reynolds (CI), but just do the notes and review and you should be fine. He may round final grades 1-2%, if you show up to lecture.
Professor Polletta's MAT265 was challenging, but his engaging lectures and helpful online resources, including an Unstuck AI-powered study guide, made it manageable. Definitely worth taking if you're up for the workload.
Dr. Polleta was one of my favorite professors I've ever had. Clearly loves teaching and so incredibly well planned how he explains difficult topics at a level that a middle schooler would be able to understand. Love that he always has some goofy joke to tell the class and truly seems to care about all his students. “And victory is ours”
honestly one of the best professors so far. MAT265 is difficult enough as it is, but Dr. Dave does help the class as best as he can. Definitely recommend for people taking Calc I classes!
I became gay because of him
He doesn't teach the lectures they taught by multiple other professors who are to understand. If you read the reviews and pick him because of it just know it isn't the one teaching the course by week 1 you will see other professors are teaching it and if you are looking for clear concise information you won't get it
The class is about some unfunny jokes, he teaches you like you already know it, way too long writing, other professors write less and teach more.
Best professor. Could not take him for 266 but he gives you the dropbox links to all his classes after youre done with the course. I technically studied watching his videos rather than going to my actual 266 professor. AMAZING and very very helpful and kind professor.
Dr.Dave is in my top 3 of professors I've had over the years of taking online courses. He's basically available 16 hours a day to answer any question you put in the discussion board. And he has a dropbox of all his lectures where he goes over all the material of the course. The class is 7 1/2 weeks so its pretty fast but he tries his best to teach.
Completing Calc I in half a semester is brutal, but Dr. Dave is an amazing, supportive instructor for it. He's been so fast to respond when I have problems and has been caring and understanding every time. His exam reviews are PERFECT to prepare for the tests too. I wish I could have him for every math course I take!
I had a 58% for almost half the semester, and I ended with an 80%. The class was hard, but he was so helpful and just wanted to see his students succeed. He is by far the best math professor I have had. You just have to put in the effort and ask for help. He's a little quirky, but it makes the class more enjoyable compared to others.
Dr. Dave is a GREAT professor—his lectures are actually super interesting (which is saying a lot for calculus). The class itself is definitely hard, but he gives you so many resources to succeed. All the homework has extra credit if you submit it early. He really wants students to do well—you just have to put in the effort.
Dr. Dave is available all the time, very communicative, always wiling to help, and posts some absolute bangers of additional resources for advanced maths. Class absolutely sucked for me, but in no way due to Dr. Dave and it would have been way worse had I had a "normal" ASU online experience! Squeezed out a B and learned a TON. Thanks Dr Dave!
Dr. Dave is such a great and kind person. He will always be ready to help you with any questions regarding the class, both via emails or irl. Just keep studying since the begging and u will be fine. The class is hard but still possible to pass with some studying. Make sure to attend the classes.
Now that I'm finished with this class I'll say that Dr Dave was pretty good. Calculus is hard as it is but studying will always help out.
This professor genuinely cares about his students' success. He has created multiple videos demonstrating how to solve each homework problem step by step. Since I am good at math, I found the course manageable, but I know it can be challenging for some of my fellow students since it's a condensed half-semester course but he made it doable.
I started Cal 1 with a pessimistic view, but the professor turned me into an optimist. He taught students every detail of math. I always say the professor has everything ready; you need to review and do your assignments. I never regret that I enrolled in this professor's class.
Really loved the way he taught. One of my favorite professors to date. Would absolutely take him again if he fit into my schedule.
Please take Dr. Dave! I would take this class again if I could. I'm someone who has always hated math but he somehow made calculus enjoyable. He is so kind and never makes anyone feel bad for asking questions. His exams are also very reasonable and his homework is very manageable. He's just great guy with great energy that can teach very well!
Dr. Dave was great. He really cares about his students and their success. One thing I really liked was that he posts all his lectures to a drop box which is really helpful when you need extra help. His exams are multiple choice and only use content he's actually gone over. He's also very good at explaining concepts when you're confused. Take him!!!
The best math professor at ASU, amazing reviews for tests.
I ended up having to drop, not because of the professor, but because of the pace of the course (which the professor doesn't control). If you want to succeed in this class and it's an A or B session, be prepared to learn a new section every other day. If you miss a day it will hurt. Dr Dave is great as a professor, just wish online had a C session.
rude, uncaring, unforgiving
Dr. Dave is the best professor there is at ASU. Taking this course in 6 weeks felt impossible, but he made it manageable and fun. His passion shows through his work. He replies to emails promptly, is forgiving about life circumstances, and offers extra credit if you turn in hw early. I cannot recommend him enough. Take him and victory will be yours
Dr. Dave is a TREASURE. His lectures are amazing and he does so much outside of class to help his students be successful (e.g., exam reviews for all exams) Beware that MAT265 online is very intense (ASU's fault, not Dr. Dave's) with 5 exams over about 6 weeks plus a lot of HW. HW is critical to understanding topics and performing well on exams.
MAT 265 (Calc I) is a tough class, and the fact that this course is only 6 weeks long certainly did not help. However, Dr. Dave was absolutely PHENOMENAL from the beginning! He has great lectures, genuinely wants to see you succeed, and makes the class so much more easier. 100% recommend, and be sure to stay on top of the homework and exams!
Tbh I never had this professor, but I did spend more time watching his lectures than my actual Calc 1 professor. His lectures are very straight-forward and helpful for tests.
Probably the best teacher I've taken thus far. Lectures are engaging and his passion radiates even at 8am. Attendance isn't mandatory. Tests aren't too bad and plenty of review materials posted that are easily accessible. He is also very accessible outside of class and responds relatively quick to emails. Would highly recommend taking Dr. Polletta.
The most overrated dude in the whole math department, bad exam reviews, hard homeworks, not much help outside of the class.
Polletta's lectures are very slow. MAT275 is a hard class for some people, but he goes incredibly slow on topics to the point it is hard to stay focused. That being said, he does prepare you well for the tests, which makes homeworks easy. The tests are at the same level as the homework. Is willing to bump grades if he sees you in class regularly.
If you can take Dr. Dave's class, DO IT. He is great at explaining steps in lectures, has a Dropbox full of resources that help with Edfinity, and he is genuinely passionate, which shines through and makes the class better. I had an early class, but no matter how tired I was, he would still deliver humor and awesomeness. VICTORY IS OURS.
I took Dr. Dave for Calc 1 and Calc 3. His lectures were theory-based and illustrated through examples in class; he also uploaded the solutions to the problems in Dropbox. He is always ready to help and wants students to understand the topics. Victory is OURS!
Take him at all costs. His lectures are fun and easy to follow, homework and tests are all very reasonable, and he genuinely cares about his students. Victory is ours!
Dr Dave has a passion for what he teaches and cares a lot about his students. Calc III is a hard class but he is there to help get you through it by going over homework problems and explaining concepts in depth. If you just practice the reviews you should do well on the exams. There is a resurrection grade with the final as well.
Best math professor ASU has hands down. Loads of opportunities for extra credit with his assignments, his tests are pretty easy too if you do the HW and practice tests. He's always supportive, incredibly approachable and honestly I can't recommend him enough. 10000/10 TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!
If you're able to take Dr. Dave for a course, I would highly recommend it. He's very kind, respecting, and is great at teaching. He also provides a small amount of extra credit for completing homework early. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, you should go since the lectures are great. I personally regret not attending more consistently.
Dr. Dave is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. His lectures explain the concepts great and he is always open to questions. His exams are very reasonable, and the exam reviews help prepare. Would recommend it for anyone who wants an amazing teacher. Victory is Ours!
I love that man. He is my far the best professor I have ever taken. Calc 3 at 8am sounds horrible but he made it work. Take him at all cost. He explains the concepts so clearly and concise. Always there if you need help, he is so nice!
VICTORY IS OURS!
Best professor one can ask for he makes the topics so clear and is always accessible at all hours to answer any question. He doesnt make you feel dumb for asking questions and is so helpful. Victory is ours
welcome to the wonderful world of mat265
Wonderful professor, tests are not too difficult and there isn't an overwhelming amount of homework. And he's in like half of the ASU mathcast videos. It kinda felt like meeting a celebrity
He made the class so easy its unbelievable. He has a dropbox filled with homework questions/topics that students struggle with. He's the nicest professor I have ever met and loves answering questions. Exams are fair and graded FAST. Those biweekly MatLab labs on the other hand. They're very tedious, so start them with a few days before they're due
Good professor who cares about you. He is always open to questions and office hours. He grades lightly and is open to rounding if you participate and are present at lectures. Only downside is he does not offer extra credit.
