Very knowledgeable and helpful.

One of the best professors around. He's very intelligent and teaches so you understand. He genuinely cares about his students and is definitely not too hard on the eyes! ;)

Genius. Wonderful and helpfull.
very intelligent and interesting lectures
don't like him at all
An exceedingly intelligent, excellent teacher. Listens to students and integrates student interests and thoughts into lecture. And let's not forget that he is positively dreamy.
intelligent but did not like the way he taught - not clear at all
One of the nicest, mild mannered professors I've met. Exceedingly intelligent and a lot of fun to talk to. His sense of humor is great. You can learn a lot from him beyond grammar.
cute, but unfailingly boring in class lectures... had its high moments though. easy grader.
Interesting guy. I get the feeling that he has read every book in every language ever written.
Dr. Posner is one of the best professors I have ever had. He knows what he's talking about, extremely nice, challenging, and hot. Get to know him and participate in class. His class is a lot of work but worth the effort! (esp if you can get him to smile!)
I'd rather have Danford then take Posner. Danford at least let more than one person engage in discussion. He's a hard grader, his writings terrible, and you can't hear him at all. Discussion is worthless since he lets the same 2 people talk every time
He is much easier than Danford. He knows every book he talks about by the chapter and can really help you out. He grades you fairly based on what you hand in. His voice is really relaxing so don't go to class tired unless you want to fall asleep.
Approachable, helpful, and mindbogglingly intelligent! Assignments are relevant and pretty easy to do. And as the other raters commented he is DELICIOUS! Maybe next semester I can do some extra credit;)
OMG, this guy is amazing! He's not easy, but he's super super smart, super funny, and super HOT! I love him. If you can fit him into your schedule it's totally worth it! (especially if you're a girl...cause he's so damn hot!)
he's great - hard, but great. 2 tests, 2 papers. emails back quickly with amswers to all the questions you have. takes time out to help students. everyone in my class got higher than a C, pretty good.
Undoubtedly my most influential professor at Loyola. Made me a better writer, and a better thinker. Challening, but worth it. You'll get your money's worth.
i don'tunderstand how you can say this professor is hot. you are all crazy! his class is good, but he can do it even better. he's a cool guy.
Dr. Posner is one of the most erudite people I've ever met. It's simply astonishing how much he knows about.... well, everything! As smart as he is, though, he is never condescending, and he is a fairly easy grader (as long as you're good at grammar).

Although, i don't know how some people can call him hot (he's like a dad!), Posner is a great teacher. He grades really hard, but he definitely knows what he's talking about,
Fun class, interesting and well worth it even if you have little musical experience. He's a good lookin man, but go easy ladies, he could be your father. Seriously though, he knows EVERYTHING! study hard.
He's alright. Kinda mumbles, but really into what hes teaching. Yes, he knows a lot. A very hard grader. If you want a good grade, dont take him. Hes hard. But a nice person overall.
dr. posner is excellent, and can be really hilarious at times. he knows what he's talking about, and altho soft-spoken, can really get you excited about the subject. for this class we got to see 4 operas for really cheap, so if you're into that kind of thing then definitely go for this class.
Very challenging class. He is SUPER intelligent which made me try harder. Lectures are very interesting. You are expected to be able to identify passages from the diff. readings. not as hard as it sounds. He is also very sweet and understanding and available when you need help.
Extremely smart and funny professor. Very helpful, very professional. Because it's an honors course it wasn't easy, but he's a great teacher, couldn't have asked for anything more.
Great Teacher and EXTREMELY smart. Movies are all subtitled, so make sure you follow along becuse they go fast. Great class.

He graduated from Princeton. He's hot. You don't need to know anything else. Take it. Amazing.

poor teaching ability. vague assignments.never grades anything and wont till you where you are in the class.huge amount of reading crammed in cuz he cant follow the schedule he has made.towards the end, like pulling hair to go, so BORING. he is just off, thinks he is amazing, and if you havent earned a Ph.D., you immediately have poor writing skill
not only is he so intelligent that you feel as though you learn just by sitting in front of him, but he LOVES him some zip-front shirts and might have a sordid personal life.. interesting man and definitely worth taking.
There's not much else that can be said about Dr. Posner. He does seem to know absolutely everything about everything. He seems a bit disorganized and gets off track a lot but whatever he's talking about is interesting anyway. I wasn't looking forward to this class but it ended up being amazing.
He's a great professor. Really understanding and helpful. Easy on the eyes, too!
Excellent professor--probably the best honors teacher to have. His lectures are compelling and his comments in discussions are always helpful. The "discussion" section is less discussion and more a second lecture, but that means you learn even more about the texts and it will help you do well in the class.
His lectures are always interesting and entertaining...especially when he throws in jokes and references to odd things. Helpful and very knowledgeable too.
Great professor, I really want to take him for another class. He is probably the best honors professor you can get. He really makes the stuff interesting, but DO NOT EXPECT AN A! I got a's in every other class but could not crack a B+ in this one. The tests are REALLY HARD as well
Dr. Posner is really excellent. He has a sort of cartesian way of looking at things, but once you get what he's saying, it's pretty interesting. He his extremely personable and very invested in his student. This class was truly memorable.
He's probably the one of the best honors teacher availible. The hardest grader I have ever seen, and you read like 13 books per semester. He's very much approachable, and you can ask him for help. But don't expect to coast: this class, and teacher, is SUPER HARD!
Let this be a WARNING to you! Posner is the worst. The most pompous, arrogant jerk. If you are not a music major, if you don't have a perfect knowledge of the classics, if you don't know anything about opera, and if you don't have a PhD, you are deemed worthless, and reminded everyday through degrading comments and bad grades. He is the worst.Avoid
David Posner is a great professor. His lectures are very clear, he is very knowledgeable about what he's teaching and on many things he's not teaching, very approachable, and an all around good guy. I will also add he is not pompous. Do not confuse a high level of intelligence and confidence with pomposity. Take him for anything he teaches.
Posner is definitely the most interesting and lively of the Honor's professors. 2nd hardest grader only to Danford. He is definitely hard to please with papers, and shows some slight inconsistency. Still, he's the funniest and extremely intelligent. Take him!
really nice, very clear and intelligent, but a very tough grader. only take him if you tend to be more realistic with your analyses; different or theoretical theories (heh) aren't much liked by him.
Overall, a very good professor. A vault of wisdom in countless subjects, lucid, clear, and not pretentious. Also has a sense of humor, and isn't too mean when he destroys your inferior claims. Only problem is that he grades essays with too much focus on style, and not argument.
Boring, but a nerdy sense of humor.
Dr. Posner is amazing and a genius. His discussion section always clarified everything for me, and he is actually really funny. You will learn a lot in this class, but it is not easy. Only take him if you care more about learning than getting an A. GREAT professor!
Posner is great and SO intelligent. The workload is really reasonable and he is a fair grader. Also, he is easily distracted/amused by the personal problems of the students :D
Fantastic discussion professor. His corny artwork is hilarious. You'll learn a lot. Super helpful and always explains the major points for exams during discussion through the semester. Fair grader, but focuses on style and syntax A LOT.
When I first saw the first day of class, I knew this was going to be a fun semester. He's extremely intelligent, funny, and a bit nerdy in a good way! He will scrutinize your essays with intent focus. His standards are high. However, that's okay! You'll do well. You'll want to do well. You'll leave his class satisfied and definitely smarter.
I took him last year for honors and it was a great choice. Honors in general sucks, but Posner makes it less painful. He's clear with what he expects and it's useful to go to his office hours when writing papers. His art work makes class more enjoyable. He's extremely intelligent and so secure with himself he's not scared to be himself
He is a nice guy and knows French lit. We spoke a lot in English which was a little disappointing, but he's helpful. Don't buy all the French texts in the beginning because we ended up not use 2 or 3 of them.
Posner is an amazing professor. Not only is he knowledgeable about european languages, artwork, and literature but he's also incredibly good looking for his age. He made honors a lot more enjoyable. TAKE HIM. Get on his good side though, and make sure to focus on stylistic elements in papers rather than strictly content..
had him for honors discussion, he does most of the talking but is very helpful and knowledgeable
You should definitely take him for honors discussion. He's interesting and funny and a pretty easy grader.
I like him a lot. Really good for Honors. He's super clear, funny and a pretty cool guy. One of the better honors graders. He focuses on style mostly. Really glad I took him.
I suggest showing up to class, because he does take that into account with your final grade. If you put forth the effort, he'll love you! Posner is one of the best honors professors I've come in contact with. He's so knowledgeable in everything we talk about and he helps clarify topics that weren't clear in lecture. TAKE HIM.
He's tough. Yet, the material came alive in lecture. He's also great out of the classroom when in dire need of an in depth explanation. He loves sushi and loves one on one conversation. Just take his class. You'll love it.
Professor Posner is an incredible teacher that geniunely cares about his subject as well as his students. I had him freshman year in UCLR100 and had him again as a junior for Lit tier 2 class. He was go out of his way to help you out if you show interesteffort in his classes! Definitely do the readings and be prepared for frequent, easy essays.
He's really funny and really easily distracted. Sometimes he isn't very clear when he explains grammar and he tends to mumble when he speaks French, so it's difficult to get an understanding of what he's saying every time. However, if you ask him to repeat himself or explain in English he's happy to if it's obvious you're trying.
The books he assigns are actually really interesting and the papers are straightforward. He's really down to Earth and overall a great guy! His lectures can be a bit boring, but, honestly, it makes up for how interesting and nice of a guy he is. Read the books and pay attention in class then you won't struggle. Take him, you won't regret it!!
The books we read weren't always interesting but he is such a nice guy that it makes up for the boring subject and papers. He is super understanding, easy to work with and extremely flexible with deadlines. An A is not impossible, very doable.
"What's the point of giving an exam if you know your students are gonna fail it" David Posner. Princeton graduate, speaks more than 5 languages and he is without a doubt the funniest professeur here at Loyola. This guy is one of us, and you should definitely take his class if you're allergic to B's and below.
Posner is awesome. Everyone loves his lectures and his discussion is incredibly informative. Honors is a tough class and Posner fits that stereotype well. He is a tough grader, but he is fair and looks for improvement. It is Honors, you probably will not get an A. He has taught me so much and I hope to take him again with my later honors classes.
Discussion acts as a second lecture which is actually very nice. Very knowledgable and can be funny at times. As far as grading goes, he's about average as far as honors professors go, not the easiest but not the hardest. Allows rewrites for papers which is nice (and uncommon for honors professors)
Dr. Posner is a pretty good choice if you dont want to speak up in honors discussion. His class is basically a second lecture, and though he is dry, he is really funny and intelligent. Allows you to rewrite papers, which nobody else does. Fair grader, but Whidden, who I had last semester, is easier.
One of the two best honors lecturers (the other is whidden). Not personally in his discussion but I have heard nothing but good things from people who are. His voice is very soothing and he knows what hes talking about. Hot af.
Professor Posner is very intelligent and it shows during his lectures. He has interest in the material and it brings him joy when his students are interested too. Ask him about birds sometime - you'll thank me.
I really enjoyed my time with Dr. Posner as an honors discussion professor this semester. You will see a whole different side of him in discussion because you can tell he enjoys the opportunity to talk more about the books. But seriously, he is so knowledgeable it's amazing, and he's also a tough but fair grader and really kind! Highly recommend
Posner is a gift because he is the most down to earth professor I've ever had who is also very understanding that we have other classes to worry about besides honors. Definitely a fair grader. Besides for having a great character, he is also hilarious and incredibly smart, so leave your pillow at home- you will not fall asleep in his class.
David Posner is smart, but he's also very rude and creeped out me and a lot of female students. He speaks so quietly that it's difficult to stay engaged during lecture. There's something unsettling underneath his "charm."
While Posner doesn't have the best lectures, his discussion section is the best! While it's almost like a second lecture, he has so much knowledge over literally everything we talk about. He has a very dry sense of humor, which I find hilarious. He's great at explaining complex ideas from lecture (especially the heavy theoretical stuff)
Talks so so so quietly it's hard to stay engaged even when he does occasionally say something interesting or relevant or funny. Spends way too much of his "lectures" talking about his personal life or irrelevant anecdotes, which I suspect is why some people like him so much. I would not recommend if you actually want to feel like you're learning.
David is a nice and smart person and certainly knows what he's talking about. However he is painfully boring during lectures. So monotone and anticlimactic. Every single class session was lecture, long boring monotone lecture for an hour. Very note heavy, tough grader. You need to be REALLY into this stuff to not dislike the lectures.
A great choice for a professor - is very funny and chill and is very accessible outside of class. Cares about his students and is very knowledgable about the texts and is willing to help with any questions. He does speak pretty quietly and you have to keep up in order to take good notes in class.
The class is a lot of reading but otherwise pretty manageable. 3 short papers and forum posts every week (for zoom class). The class is mostly graded on forum posts/discussions. He's a smart guy but can be a bit monotony. The readings he assigns are usually pretty interesting.
Lol probably the worst prof I've had in a long time. Didn't respond to emails, didn't grade any of our assignments, promised us emails with instructions that he didn't give, gave us last minute essay assignments that were due less than a week later. I know it's been a hard semester, but he just didn't do his job as a professor.
The level of disorganization, lack of care, and poor communication from Posner was downright rude and inconsiderate. I didn't learn anything this semester and he didn't even try to adapt to what's going on -he just sort of gave up and blamed us for his shortcomings. Don't take him if you want your teacher to act like a grownup who has a job
Worst professor I've ever had at Loyola. He delayed every essay assignment, never responded to emails, and outright didn't grade any assignment until Dec. 8th (3 days before delayed final essay assignment, as in the final after the specified date we were supposed to have it, was due). Complete lack of communication and had no idea what was going on
COVID affected everyone, but this class never recovered. As students, we are still expected to put 100% into each of our classes. Posner gave us zilch. He didn't grade papers until literally 3 days before the final, the feedback was unremarkable (and unusable at that point), and no chance to improve. No accountability for the slow grades. Horrible
He is really nice and seems to care about how the students are doing, if someone asks for a few extra days for an essay he'll give the whole class a few more days. Hie lectures are pretty monotone but the class is pretty easy and you don't need to show up that often to pass. Just make sure you do the essays on the reading and you'll be fine.
He's ok as a teacher, but the way he looks at female students is completely inappropriate. If he had a real job, he would have been fired forever ago for that kind of behavior. Why someone in their 60s is just allowed to get away with that is baffling to me.
He does not answer any emails, grades all papers at the last minute. had no idea my grade in the class till ab out week 9. does not talk about actual content in class, only talks about his own interests. very unprofessional for someone who is a department head.
Its a very reading-heavy class, but the writing assignments given are fairly straightforward and don't always require full reading of the assigned book.
The classes are almost entirely lecture, and he tends to go off on tangents on Greco-Roman or religious history, but he's understanding about due dates and deadlines because the class is small. Grades on the quintile system and attendance isn't mandatory. A pretty relaxed class all things considered and the information can be genuinely interesting.
