Easy going, and friendly, not a super intense course, but not all that interesting. Overall, good course to take if you don't want a huge courseload.
Organized. Efficient. Helpful. Polite. Compassionate. Understanding. Absolute delight to be in the presence of. He is truly an expert in his field and cares about his students, but don't email him stupid questions. You will just look stupid.
An articulate, knowledgeable and friendly professor. Make sure you do the readings before class.
On day 1, he seemed GREAT! Very well organized and on top of things. But things went downhill after that. He gives out his powerpoints, but reads directly off them and adds very little, so it's difficult to stay focused. The textbook was useless (and he said so). He's a fairly hard test marker too.
If you study you should be fine, talks in a very monotone voice, very hard to stay awake in his class, but his tests aren't too bad if you actually take the time to study. Don't have to take notes as he puts his lectures up online.
GREAT TEACHER. highly recommended. Easy tests, and when we did the term paper... he was constantly encouraging the class to come to him for help. He even extended his office hours. If I could, I'd be in his psych class every year. Does have a very monotone voice, I found it hard to stay awake but thats cuz its me:P If you're taking psych, HES THE 1
Class is straight forward. Lectures are from text. Hes so nice and helpful. Has an "everyone is an idiot" attitude sometimes. His voice is unstimulating and makes you feel drowsy. Way too many tests so kind of annoying 5 tests one essay. posts mark quick.
Really easy going teacher, doesn't use the textbook much, very direct and doesn't attempt to try any tricks on the test as long as you study, you can at least get a C+. Funny and engaging with videos to apply concepts discussed.
Veryy easy prof, definitely would take him for all my psych classes. received an A- without everrr being in class. he does have a monotone voice, so it's hard to stay awake. exams all m/c and very straight forward, just need to read his notes. the final paper is also extremely easy, very easy marker!
His monotone voice definitely puts students to sleep, including myself.. But he's such a helpful teacher! Go to his office hours and ask for additional help - he's more than happy to clarify. All his exams were MC except for the last one which had a long question. His tests were difficult but FAIR. Read the notes and TEXTBOOK!!
David is a great psychology prof. Really helpful and his lectures are enjoyable as he has a good sense of humor. I would take him again and recommend him to anyone.
David is such a warm and wonderful person, and is an absolute delight to be in the presence of. He is incredibly helpful, patient, and is an excellent lecturer. Class had 5 tests + 1 lab report. His voice and mannerisms are stimulating and hilarious - he's very lively. 100% recommend him for any psych class. He is truly an expert in his field.
He was very organized and helpful. The test marks were posted online really quickly. Lectures were pretty boring, he doesn't add anything to his powerpoint slides (which don't add much more than what the textbook says)so it's very easy to tune out.
I'm so happy I took my psych course with prime! I mean, yes, his voice is monotone but you'll get used to it. His powerpoints ties in well with the textbook which is great. His tests are super straight forward as well. It's hard to fail in Prime's class!
If you have insomia please join his class.
He is a great teacher that explains the material very well in class. He uses many examples to explain the concepts in class and this helps massively while reading the textbook. His tests are highly textbook related and are pretty easy if you read the book. I would recommend his class.
I feel asleep every class...pretty much sums up his lectures. Super dry, super dull and super boring. He just stands there and talks and talks and talks for 2 hours, NO BREAKS.
Most boring lectures i've ever been too. I only went to class to hand in a paper and do the tests. Tests are straight from the textbook and so are the slides. They are simple if you understand the chapters. We had no final. When I went to him to clarify some concepts during office hours he was super helpful.
Monotone throughout the entire class. Without a doubt, you will fall asleep at least once, or every single class like I did. However, his notes are straightforward and are based off of textbook. Read textbook for more information. If you need extra help, go to office hours and he's more than willing to work with you. He's very nice!
Excellent professor.
Awesome professor who really does a good job of teaching.
An inspiring instructor who always make me think. Will take his class again if I get the chance.
A very good professor, speech is clear and brief.
Found his class super difficult due to his multiple choice tests are very confusing.
Easy A. He gives 5 tests, no exams, and one research summary (easy). The tests are all MC and easy because they are not cumulative and once you take them, you don't have to remember the info again. Very approachable, smart and kind. Always answered questions enthusiastically. Skip class if you want, everything is posted online. Class was a breeze.
Very boring talker. You'll need aderal to be able to focus in his class. I do not recommend. You'll also get zero breaks during lectures.
The lectures were long but if you did skip it's almost all based on the text and posted online, except he did sometimes give exam hints exclusively in class. A bit monotonous at times but he was interesting and could be funny. Tests were pretty easy if you studied and mostly multiple choice. Good for a first psyc class.
He was a nice guy, but his lectures dragged. He mostly talked about himself for the first four classes. Then when everyone failed the first quiz he got mad at the class. I didn't enjoy it.
Gives unnecessarily difficult tests. Even though you read the book, you will struggle to understand the questions. I have never had difficulty understanding what the heck the question is about. Not very approachable but knows his stuff.
Looking for an instructor with an uncanny ability to take a subject you love and turn it into the most boring thing you've ever experienced? LOOK NO FURTHER! Lectures were unbelievably dry
Notes posted online. Study those and the tests will be easy. Test questions arnt tricky and are straight forward. Some of them even have very obvious answers to them its kinda amusing. Gives very specific instructions on what to include in your term paper which was SUPER helpful. Cons: Lectures were dreadfully dull
Dr Prime is very knowledgeable. He'll give you all the notes ahead of time. He gives out hints about the exam questions in his lectures but you have to be paying close attention to figure them out. He's fair with his marking, but you have to show you actually have a deep understanding and not just memorizing the slides. Long exams.
A part of me died taking one of his classes. Holy long and not helpful.
Biggest thing about David is that he genuinely cares about students. Will be available outside of class for help. I fell ill during a test, and David was understanding. Lectures are interesting to me, as I love psychology and random stories. But lectures are long. (2hr) straightfoward. Tests are all multiple choice. 4 tests and no final exam.
he is very vague and talks bluntly. makes the class no fun. very difficult marker and assignments are difficult. not recommended. does not make the class intriguing, all he does is talk. it is a class you have to learn on your own.
Very clear lecture slides. They give away the exam questions and prepare you pretty well for the paper. Paper was a bit tricky but if you go to his office hours he works patiently with you to make sure you get it. I didn't understand til I went to office hours and ended up getting 85% on the paper. Homework super easy too.
Tends to base lectures entirely off of textbook but generally not a bad instructor. Is open to questions and input from students.
The class is not that hard, but you have tons of reading. Found David unapproachable and it's basically a class where you'll have to teach yourself. The tests are based on 4 tests, two of them are straight up multiple choice and the last 2 have a written on it. The content itself is pretty interesting, but just take a different professor.
Drops a lot of hints about what you need to know for tests and is usually pretty clear about what he's looking for when he's marking. 5 tests, one straightforward paper, nothing on tests that isn't in the textbook/lecture slides which are posted online. He's a good guy but lectures could be more exciting.
I felt like he was really boring at some parts of the lecture especially when he could let us out early, but then always dragged it on, still good lectures. Really strict on plagiarism so don't even try it, he's a good prof but you also need to put some effort form your end.
David is very approachable, caring and wants his students to succeed. Tests were easy and he even bumped everyone's mark up 5% on one bc he felt it was 'too difficult'. Study his lectures and come to class because he often hints at or directly says exam questions. I especially like his bonus credit opportunities + lots of labs which are fun!
David was a fantastic professor, I would definitely recommend him! His lectures really prepare you for the tests if you pay attention and put in the extra work. He is a wealth of knowledge and I really enjoyed his class.
He's good teacher however lectures are very long and boring. He's very monotone. He tries to get the students participate however many of them just end up falling asleep. BUT, he is a good prof. To succeed in his class you have to read the textbook before every class. He has 4 major tests and no final. One paper, which is a summary on a Journal.
Overall, a disappointment. He tried, but failed as an instructor. No matter how interesting the subject matter was during the lectures , his monotonous and uninterested presentation style ultimately conveyed to the class that it was a job rather than a passion. Also did not include breaks between lectures. I would not recommend him.
I'm not a psych major so I took this class as an elective. The best part for me was that the exams were straightforward and non-cumulative. And also NO FINAL!! 3 of the 5 tests had written parts.. the written was always the hardest. There's lots of material but not having to remember all of it by end of term made my life so much easier
I have to say David Prime is very confusing. If you like multiple choice this is the class for you. All his exams are multiple choice. However, the questions asked on the exam are poorly written and are very confusing to understand. The term paper we had to write was very difficult and he didn't take that into account when marking the papers.
David Prime failed for me as psych 1100 instructor, with long lectures that were strictly him reading off the slides it was hard to find any interest in the class, along side four long multiple choice tests which are worded badly and a term paper which was difficult and graded tough as well
The class was lecture heavy and you have to read the text book closely. But Dr. Prime met with me outside of class and helped me with my paper and was very accommodating when I was sick. Great class! Highly recommend.
There's periodic tests throughout and no final! The tests were all multiple choice but could be a little confusing. The term paper is easy if you stick to the guidelines. You will do well studying off of the lecture slides (I only used the textbook twice). He's a decent guy, just a little opinionated at times. This is a decent class overall.
Tests are easy if you pay attention to lecture. The essay was by far the driest part of the course
Most boring class of my life. Stands there for two hours straight, no break and reads off his slides with a terrible monotone voice. WORST prof I've ever had... AVOID AT ALL COSTS
David Prime is a nice and funny instructor. His lectures are very interesting. You need to pay attention to his lectures. He marks fairely. His exams/tests are fair sometimes tricky. If you ask for help or feedback, he will definitely help you. He is very respectable.
You really don't have to attend the classes if you are one of those natural smartypants, but I got a lot out of the lectures. He's incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his work. He's so charismatic. He reminds me of Robert California from the office. He has no final exam either yay!
Easy first year course. Theres only 4 tests and no final. Just memorize his notes and do launchpad for an easy A. His tests are straightforward and easy to improve on. One research paper that is graded pretty easy as long as you follow the instructions carefully.
Very boring prof I fell asleep in every class. Literally sounds like an answering machine. No one paid attention and no one ever showed up to his lectures because they were painfully boring. His tests are hard, and his paper grading was really tough . Overall it was okay because I studied my ass off otherwise I wouldnt take it again
Straightforward tests if you've done your reviews. Willing to clarify the wordings during exams. Classes can be very boring as he mainly reads off from slides. Clarifies concepts through real life experiences. I wrote the term paper in the wrong format, still gave me an acceptable mark. Overall a worthwhile class.
David has really been working hard to make his classes better for students, by making his examples clear, using easy to understand slides, and giving examples of information that will be on tests. He is always available for extra questions and help. He does expect a certain amount of effort from his students, but its a third year course...
Very interesting lectures. You can see that he cares about the students doing well. Pretty easy to pass the tests if you come to class and listen. Very good at explaining material.
Very interesting lectures. Good at explaining the material. You can se that he cares about his students doing well. No final, but 3 tests, which are pretty easy to pass if you come to lectures and listen.
David's class isnt super hard but he makes you work for it. The term paper is a out of 15 marks and is worth 15%, its a research paper based off an in class activity, for my semester, the paper had to be on mental rotation. Overall his test arent super hard, they MC with short answers. he drops lots of hints about what the SA will be on.
This man is a legend. if you can take his class I advise that you should, he gave the most clear instructions for a assignment I have ever seen. If you take his studying advice and put some effort in you will pass. he is casual, caring, and awesome. Be advised, he does actually read these sometimes. so if you're reading this David, God Bless.
As a first year, David was a good professor. His powerpoint slides were always on point and straight forward, you weren't required to read the textbook if you attended his class regularly and paid attention. He tested us based on his slides and there was no final just a term paper. Caring and gives good feedback if you visit his office hours!
This was my first class in psych and Dr. Prime made it an exciting and positive experience for me. He is caring about his students and passionate about his work. I highly recommend his class. Don't worry about the textbook, his slides have everything needed to succeed!
Great prof overall, grading is fair and tests are straight to the point with no surprises. Very responsive through email and always ready to help! 10/10
I really liked this memory class. The material was heavy, but there wasn't a textbook, just his slides( a LOT of slides). Your mark was based on 3 exams (MC & a few SA), weekly assignments, a paper, and a presentation. The weekly assignments are based on the slides+lecture. Give the best answers you can on these, they were great study material.
4 test and a paper. All simple, provided good instructions, the lectures are clear and concise, no rambling. I took an async class, but he was still accommodating with feedback. If you ask a question, he will answer. The test are straightforward no secret questions that hasn't been covered. Good experience.
Class was essentially fully asynchronous. Consisted of weekly lectures that had everything you needed to pass the tests. David was always accessible outside of class and gave very clear instructions about what exactly he expected on the paper. Overall it was a lot of lectures but they are broken down into segments to make it easier. Would recommend
the most boring class in my entire life. I caught several classmates sleeping in class. Instructor doesnt take questions in class... He's very boring, reads the slides all the time and super paranoid about Covid and you can't hear nothing with his mask on. If i have to take this class again, it won't be with this instructor...
Boring lectures but he doesn't care if you skip. Seems he would prefer his students don't show up bc of covid but he responds to email & forum posts. If you're an independent/fast learner, just review the slides & textbook for good grades. He even provided sample exam questions. Directives for the term paper were clear & he discussed it afterwards.
I found this professor quite miserable, and seemed he did not want to be there. I understand covid has affected everyone, but he was quite paranoid and a little rude when it came to the topic. His lectures were quite long and not very engaging. Claimed tests were on his lecture and textbook, but I still found myself lost, despite studying hard.
Dr. Prime’s teaching style is very boring, and he talks a little fast so it’s hard to listen and take notes at the same time. Even the interesting lectures might get a little boring with the teaching style. Whole class is failing and somehow it’s students fault. !!Warning don’t take this class.. hopefully this review may help you^_^
He only has 3 exams for the whole semester, no worksheets or additional homework, besides a term paper due at the end of the semester. The whole class you are unable to hear him because he speaks so low and due to covid he does not let you drink water at all in his class. Exams are multiple choice but confusing answers, nobody would show up to clas
This prof will not be for everyone as people vary from person to person on their views. Prime happens to be strict about Covid regulations and I had no issues with it. His lectures are quite heavy and long but the material was interesting so if you have enjoy cognitive psych it should not be a huge issue.
David sets you up to do well *and* actually learn the material if you put the work in! Plus he is an expert in the field -- If you have a question, he has a comprehensive answer. (Refreshing!) The lectures are densely packed, but I found them interesting. Study them ahead of the exams, understand the big picture concepts, and you will do well.
Read a few comments in here mentioning that Dr. Prime is boring. Sorry to break it to ya, but not all elements of psych are exhilarating. Some chapters have you more tired than usual, others have you gripping your seat. I haven't finished my course with Dr. Prime, but he comes off as extremely knowledgeable and he respectively wants you to succeed.
I'm a first year taking Dr. Prime for my first Psych course and i can say that he's quite amazing. He goes the extra mile to engage students with great examples, cracks up the class quite regularly, and really wants you to do well! By that i mean he doesn't BS anything, tells you how to do well and you can follow his advice or not. Stronglysuggested
He is an okay professor, however I dropped the course because I felt they were not engaging and I often felt bored or fell asleep. he cares for his students, and provides many examples of how to study and do well in his course. Maybe I would take him again but NOT at 8:30 am but his lecture based lessons did not work for me
If you study well enough for the exams, review slides, read the text and use the self-testing option that comes with the textbook, you'll do incredibly well. I found his class very straightforward. He does have a tend to complain a lot about past students which makes him appear less approachable, but when I needed an extension, he was very nice.
David's tests can be difficult, but I can honestly say I have retained so much of what I've learned from his class. The professors that gets 5/5 ratings here, sometimes they get those rating because it is so easy to get A/A+ from their courses, but you don't actually learn that much in the end. If you actually want to LEARN, take his class.
- lectures are way too long to be able to stay awake - 60+ slides - sort of a bland teacher - only 3 tests and 1 midterm paper (fairly straightforward)
David is a good professor who teaches in a way that you actually remember and understand complex topics. Attendance is not mandatory, but very important as he gives test tips and explains concepts more than what is on the slides. There wasn't much class discussion, but honestly, i don't think any was necessary. Make an effort and you will succeed.
he needs to do better at his term paper explanation but he is a good guy
Should not have taken the class at 8:30 am. Has 4 tests and a paper worth 20% each. All multiple choice and written.
Dr. David is an excellent professor and responds to emails promptly. All the coursework was provided at the beginning of the term, along with a weekly timeline for each assignment. The tests were straightforward, provided you reviewed the lecture slides.
If you do end up taking this class please sit in the front you will not hear him at all from the back The class after an exam he would lecture everyone on how stupid we were and he would do this EVERY CLASS after an exam these exams happen every like 2 weeks? with 3-4 chapters?
Explains things in detail and thoroughly. Multiple choice exams with one short answer written question per-exam, and a fairly easy paper with a clear step by step set of instructions. His class is all lecture based with almost no interaction, if you struggle paying attention you will dread this class (like i did). But other than that, great guy.
Overall David was an alright professor. His lectures were very boring, and he mostly just read off of his slides but the class was not too difficult. There were 3 tests and 1 term paper, which he gives very clear instructions of what should be included. I would not take him again if I had a choice just because of the lectures, but it wasn't too bad
Professor David's class is detailed and engaging, but the 8 AM lectures can be tough. He's a nice person with high expectations, giving challenging quizzes and surprise essays. Be prepared, but it's a great learning experience!
Not a bad guy, wants students to succeed! But speaks very quietly and lectures were boring. Graded on 4 exams and 1 term paper. Written questions on the exams were tricky because he waned them answered very specifically. I studied lots and felt I knew my stuff but still did mid on all the exams :/
Classes are okay, lectures are long and boring so definitely think about taking a morning lecture with him. However, he is very clear with his expectations, lets you know what topics you should focus on while studying, and he is a fair grader. Make sure you read the textbook and attend the lectures and you will be okay
knows about the subject.. 8 am class with heavy lectures. tough grader... but provides extra 3 perecent additional makeup assignment
Very nice prof and wants you to succeed. He gives as much support to do well on tests as he can and even tho the written questions are hard he tells you how to study to do well on them. He tests understanding not memorization. If you memorize only expect to get 60-70%. For 80-100% you really need to understand the concepts and do deep processing.
