If you happen to have the pleasure of taking Pringle, it won't be for English Comp. Last I heard, he was only doing Cultural Studies and Pop Arts. He was challenging and lively, and seemed to have a great amount of respect for his students.
Great instructor. Take him if you have the chance.
This man may spit and grumble but it is clear that he is a genius in literature. His classes should be taken at least once a semester if possible.
very interesting class. I cant stop looking at movies and picking them apart every 5 seconds. You will watch alot of films in class but there is typed reports to go along with them so its not a laid back movie theater atmosphere. Books are also to be read but there are online summaries.
I love Dr. Pringle. He is extremely intellegent, and if you ever look up the large range of things he teaches you will understand. He is very helpful and him being so knowledgeable keeps the class very interesting. I am taking another class with him in the fall and I can't wait.
This is the second class that I have taken with Dr. Pringle. USF's English department has a wide selection of great professors, but Dr. Pringle surpasses them all. Dr. Pringle is the only professor that can effectively use Hip Hop metaphors to make sense of Homer's epics. The man is brilliant.
Makes material interesting; very clear expectations, generous grader and very helpful. Mellow guy and you'll find yourself envying his deep intelligence about a great variety of subjects.
Great teacher. Keeps things very interesting. The only thing I don't like is that only 30% of your grade is known going into the final day. The ten page paper isn't graded until the day of the final, and it is worth 40%. The final is worth 20% and the participation grade is also worth 10%. Other than that, this is a fun class. Take it.
I love this guy. I am not taking my 3rd class with him. He is a great teacher and is UNBELIVABLY intellegent
Dr. Pringle is really a cool cat. He is enthusiastic and excellent at explaining things. He wants you to do well, and certainly makes an effort to be clear and fair. He's a trip. I have taken his twice, and honestly believe that he is the only person who could make erlt Brit. lit interesting! TAKE HIM!!
I'm graduating soon & I will miss Pringle's classes most of all. He makes it entertainment and enrichment at the same time. Definitely USF's best Lit prof! Take his classes!
Excellent professor- very intelligent and interesting! I have had him twice and have registered for the third:)
Great teacher. His knowledge base is amazing. He finds a way to relate the most uninteresting story to real life. You will watch the Matrix and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is class. All tests are take home. There is a mid-term and a final. There are four study guides. He is a very generous grader. Highly recommended.
You must come to class with the book if you want to follow his readings. Take-home exams except the final, Easy exams. Some study guides. He talks a lot but he's very helpful. should take him if you like or are interested in European literature.
I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Pringle. He is clearly a brilliant man. He made learning about ancient epics SO interesting and he is a very generous grader. It's not a stressful class, mostly lecture, and the exams were all take home. Take his classes!
Dr. Pringle is a witty and entertaining professor. His lectures are full of interesting stories and he knows his stuff. Easy grader, just be sure to do some of the reading and attend several classes. Understanding with late assignment. Highly recommend his classes.
Pringles cool, he talks alot about things that seem crazy sometimes, but he knows his stuff and is a very fair teacher. tests arent bad at all, 10 questions, pick your favorite 5... 3 essays pick your favorite 1. if you paid attention at all during class youll be fine
I took Dr. Pringle's class for Literature and loved it. I learned a lot. My favorite part of his class was that we got to watch movies and then he explained them. It was interesting to hear his perspectives. Overall, great teacher with a lot of imagination and charisma. Also, I think the man is hot.
I have to agree with most of other comments here. I wish I would have a professor like him for all my classes - fun & educational at the same time! A give him A+
Dr. Pringle is one of the best teachers I have had at USF. He is very knowledgeable about the material he teaches. He is very charismatic and funny. I wish I had more classes with him! Anyone who takes his class will benefit greatly!!
Pringle seems arrogant at first but he really is a nice guy. I think he likes playing the part of the gruffy professor! There are no surprises in his class. His essay questions are so well written that if you have any decent writing skill at all, you'll do fine. He's also very knowledgable in not only literature but philosophy and religion as well.
I am sure he is a good professor, but his teaching style didn't really work for me. I might be in the minority, though. There's not a whole lot of interaction with students. He gets up there and spiels for an hour and 15 minutes, occasionally reading a paragraph or two from the readings. I really didn't get a whole lot out of his lectures at all.
Best teacher i've had so far at USF. I never make it to my first class of the day but I look forward to all of his lectures they are hilarious and are crystal clear. There is a TON of reading and writing but it's worth it. I'm going to take the second half of hit bible lit class in the spring even though i don't need the credits at all
Great teacher!!! Love his style! He is very clear on what you need to do to get good grades. The best teacher so far at USF! I will take him again for any class.
I loved my other class with Dr. Pringle! This class was taught mostly by the TA's. I was not as happy as I did not like my TA. I feel like I missed out on Dr. Pringle. I took this class because he was the teacher. I was disappointed with having over 100 other students and 5 TA's teaching us. I still love Dr. Pringle when he did teach it was GREAT!!
Took Bible As Literature. He's a great speaker, funny, witty. But he lets his 5 TAs teach half the class for him. They aren't as interesting. Easy class! Just turn in 3 study question sheets throughout the course and write a 8 page paper on a topic you choose from a large list of topics. Also, you get counted off if you are absent more than twice.
Dr. Pringle was great! He made the material really come alive, and it is really great how he relates things that happened in the past (the Bible) with pop culture, more specifically sci fi stuff. Lots of reading and writing but overall great teach and great class.
Amazing. One of th best I have ever taken. I will alwas try to get his courses. Very funny and always willing to help. If you can take this guy, do it. There is a lot of reading, writing, note-taking, however he makes it worth your while. Great man.
This man is hands down the best professor. Took 3 classes with him. I l-o-v-e him! He's so incredibly intelligent and makes the class interesting. It may be an "easy A" but it's not a crap class. You learn so much it's insane.
I have taken him for a couple diff classes. He is very clear and if you do the reading and listen to the lectures you will have no problem earning an A. Very witty and knowledgeable professor. LOVED HIM!!!
Dr. Pringle is an incredible professor. He is intelligent, witty, and worth the time to listen and understand. I honestly enjoy this professor, and love to attend his lectures. He is always willing to work with his students and has a wonderful sense of humor!
This guy is awesome! Go to class and do the work and you will get no lower than a B. He grades extremely fair. Class consists of a few study guides(7 to 10 questions,) 2 tests (tests are 5 short answers and 1 essay,) and a 6-page term paper. He is absolutely one of my favorite professors! I highly recommend!
Dr. Pringle is by far, one of the best USF has to offer. His class is easy if you are willing to do the work, and he is always available to help. He easily accepts excuses for late/missing work, as long as they are valid. He is just a pleasure to be around, and absolutely hysterical. Every class I have taken with him has been wonderful!!
Dr. Pringle is an amazing professor. He understands that not everyone is a lit major or a world class writer, and grades very fairly on effort. Attend lectures and take good notes, the tests can be taken using notes! He is also understanding of everyone's circumstances outside of the classroom, which is a rare quality among professors.
Sets up the class to be an easy A. The exams are take home, and he marks down where to look in the book for the answers. The attendance policy was annoying: miss more than 3 days and you drop a letter grade. Its a big sized class so standing in line to sign in every day got old quick. However he tries to make the lectures somewhat interesting.
Unlike some of the professors I have had this semester, Dr. Pringle is a man of intellect. Even if you are not much of a religious person at all, Dr. Pringle makes the material interesting by associating it with pop cultural references. All in all, if you are willing to write and attend his interesting lectures, than this class is for you.
AMAZING professor! One of the best I've ever taken at USF. He's funny and keeps you entertained. Yes, there is a lot of information but he references pop culture to make it relatable. The workload isn't a lot as long as you pay attention to his lectures and take down the minimal notes on the board. I highly recommend if you actually want to learn!
I love this guy. I am not a literature major, but I thoroughly enjoyed the class. I took this during the summer, so there was a lot of reading smashed into 6 weeks, but it was totally worth it. I would love to take another one of his classes. *Clear in his instructions and keeps lectures interesting.
by far one of the best professors at USF. his expectations are high but reasonable and i learned so much in his class. he's a very lenient grader and he's so funny during lecture!
he seems like a nice guy. teaching wise he's funny and knowledgeable. unfortunately, you don't deal w/him one-on-one but his idiotic TAs.
It seems like a lot of writing at 1st, but not at all. The attendance policy seems like a pain, but I'm pretty sure my TA didnt keep track. Either way you can just walk out, its a huge class. To get an A just pick a topic for the term paper early and go to the classes on that topic and skip the rest. Skim the Bible for the HW and take home exams.
I am a horrible student, but I loved Pringle's class. He is easy-going and makes the class fun. I ended up with an A, my first in a long time. He doesn't require a certain length for anything, as long as you make your point. Definitely recommend, and definitely will be taking a class of his again!
Dr. Pringle is the best professor I've had at USF. I'm a literature major so I am sure I enjoyed his class more than a non-LIT major but it was outstanding. We read one of the most difficult books to read and understand on the planet and it was still incredible. He's passionate and really knows his stuff. Highly recommended.
Most lit classes are discussion based. This class is purely listening to lectures. If you like taking notes for hours on end, it is a great class. Professor Pringle certainly knows what he is talking about.
He is very nice! I liked his class, you do have to do some reading, and there are assignments based on those readings. But if you pay attention to the lecture, he answers most of the questions from his assignment.... Unfortunately you have to deal with his TAs alot
This class was rather easy, but paying attention in class is a must, just take notes and it is usually all you need. I didnt really read, i would not suggest this but if need be it will do.
Dr. Pringle is insanely intelligent and reflects this in his teaching. His style is awesome--very down to Earth and funny. Assignment load is very manageable and he is willing to help with anything. Must be willing to read. If you are not willing to stay on top of reading or come to class then do not enroll.
This was a fantastic class. Pringle is very helpful and he knows everything there is to know about the topics he teaches. Take home study guides, take home tests, and a 7 pg term paper. I had a lot of fun in this class, and would take Pringle again DEFINITELY.
All English majors at USF have to Take Literary Criticism... it is a complete waste of time. Everything you read is a billion yrs old and insanely difficult. However, I could NOT have passed this class with anyone but Dr. Pringle. He's an easy grader and I ended up getting an A in this class. He knows what he's talking about and understand its hard
Dr. Pringle is very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches. His lectures are a little bland at times but sometimes he is funny and fairly entertaining. One issue I had was that he was late to class several times and once he failed to show up and didn't email to let us know. However, he does allow some free absences and most of his TAs are great
I really enjoyed one of his teaching methods where he jokes around to keep your attention. Great teacher and great class.
This was a fabulous class and by far the very best lit class that I have taken at USF. Pringle knows his stuff and is very funny. Class time flew by and I came out of the class knowing more than when I went in. Take his class! I wish that all my USF professors were like Dr. Pringle.
Great instructor, willing to work with students until you get it. I have taken several of his courses and enjoyed them all. Fun & entertaining, he is a lecturer, so if you want a discussion class-this is not the one for you.
Easy & interesting. Exams/study guides were take home and turned into TA. Easy. A cool combo of a history/literature class. Very captivating though. I'm a poli sci major and took it for an upper level elective. Must say it was well worth it as I had a full schedule and this class was both a breeze and still fun.
Prof Pringle definitely finds himself amusing. This class was high lecture and low discussion which I normally do not enjoy, but if you're taking a heavy course load (like I was) it's nice to have a breather course.
Took Prof. Pringle for World Lit. and studied mostly Epic poetry. All tests and assignments are Essay form so be prepared to write a lot. Here's a word of advice, if you want to avoid reading the novels, buy sparknotes! Didn't read one single book and passed with a high B. Boring at times but good exit course professor.
Great professor! Mandatory attendance is annoying considering you can do all take home tests (he puts where to locate the answer next to the question) without listening to a word he says. Either way, loved attending lectures. A really funny guy and makes the information interesting.
Very easy class. I was worried about taking a Bible as Lit course with little knowledge of the Bible coming in, but by showing up the lectures and doing the two study guides and two exams, I easily got an A and learned a great deal about the context of the Bible. The class is *not* a Bible study session, which was a relief.
Dr. Pringle is awesome. This is the second time I have taken his class and wish I could take the Bible as Lit. There is some room in his class for lecture, but you're going to have to force the issue if you it. Dr. Pringle knows a lot and has a lot to say, so he's more than happy to fill the time with his pretty awesome lectures.
This class was seriously easy and I am by no means a straight A student. Dr. Pringle makes the lectures interesting by using modern terminology and context for many of the themes in the epics that you read. If you need an easy and interesting credit for writing take Pringle.
I wish I took him for more classes. I am terrible with writing and not majoring in anything to do with lit or english. I had to take this for a exit requirement. He understands that not everyone is english students and grades you very good. I made A's and B's. You have to write a lot but it really isnt bad. I suggest taking him
Great communicatorfor thisLIT class (not religious). TA's grade all papers. Lectures pretty good. He is VERY smart and brings things to our level.
Pretty good teacher. Overall I liked him. I took OT and will take NT next semester. Its a really easy class, especially if you grew up in Church all your life. However if you are a Christian and taking it he doesn't teach it from a religious pt of view but a secular. The best part of the class is the TA presentations because you get a chance to talk
TAKE PROFESSOR PRINGLE! hes an awesome teacher, knows his stuff and teaches it well, class can be boring but he does well to make it interesting. you can really learn a lot from him and this class is easy to pass. not too much work.
He was a good lecturer, but it was as if he was reading off a script and he says the same thing to every single class. Take notes in class, use the same notes and quotes to write your papers and he will be happy. Didn't give much room for free individual thought. No class discussions or personal opinions allowed.
Dr Pringle is pretty great. He's funny and makes something as dry as the Bible pretty easy to follow and interesting. Attendance is slightly mandatory. Sometimes it's hard to fully be engaged in a literature class lecture hall but he does a pretty good job trying. Would definitely recommend, took him twice.
Easy Class! He makes the material interesting and easy to understand. Take home test and a 6 page term paper at the end of the semester. You have to try your hardest to fail the class.
Literary Theory & Criticism is dense stuff that reads like philosophy (Word Soup), but Dr. Pringle extracts the important points from each reading and lectures brilliantly on them, writing key terms on the board. Three-hour classes flew by. Lots of reading, and a fair amount of writing. Papers, no tests. So glad I took this class with Dr. Pringle!
Professor is cool, TA's are a pain. All have different requirements so I felt the work load wasn't the same, but it still isn't that much regardless. Three Study guides, a 6 page paper, and two take home tests that are papers. Interesting to see the bible as a story book more than holy scripture. You'll enjoy it.
THIS GUY IS AWESOME! Take him if you can. His lectures are amazing and rather engaging. I learned so much in this class.
This is an easy A but you do have to do your work. Dr. Pringle is an interesting professor. I learned a lot more than I thought I would in his class. Don't be stupid, take Pringle.
Class is very easy. You'd have to try your hardest to fail really. Then again, your grade could be dependent on your TA. Just do the work and your fine. The work load isn't even that much. One take Home Midterm and a take home final, 3 study guides, and a term paper.
I took 'The Bible as Literature' with Dr. Pringle and it was really interesting and entertaining. I'm already familiar with most of the Bible but he delves deeper into it from a non-religious perspective. 2 study guide assignments (easy), 2 exams (midterm and final), and 1 6-page term paper (easy).
I took The Bible as Literature with Dr. Pringle and it was beyond easy! It's not from a religious perspective it's just from an academic perspective. If you're a Christian you may get slightly offended at times but just remember he's just explaining it from an academic perspective. Also if you have a Bible already just use it and site noab.
Awesome professor! I took The Bible as Literature. Though the TA's are in charge of your grades, it's easy to get good scores. Pringle was very knowledgeable about the subject. Lectures were always interesting. Study guides were easy, tests were take home, and one paper to do. I'd definitely take a class of his again.
For being such a difficult class in terms of material, Pringle did a great job of explaining all the theory. You have to take notes to do well in the class because he just lectures. I've also taken the Bible as Lit class and really liked his personality! Keeps it engaging and is an extremely fair grader. He also was good about giving paper feedback
Great professor! Took Bible as Literature for my writing intensive. Lectures are interesting and tests are take home. Grade consists of one mid-term, one final, and two study guides. Simple and straightforward.
Took the Bible as Lit. New Testament for my writing intensive. Pretty simple course: 2 study guides, 2 take-home midterm & final exams, & 1 6-page term paper. GO TO CLASS, absences do count against you. TAs do the grading, so hopefully you get a nice one, but can argue a grade. Learned a lot & definitely shed perspective on reading the bible!
This class was a lot harder than I expected. There were 4 assignments and a 6 page paper that was due at the end of the semester. If you don't know much about the Old Testament then you will definitely have to read a lot. How your paper is graded is determined by the TA. Lectures are very boring, but he doesn't care if you don't pay attention.
how work but if you able to put your Blood Sweat and Tears and they should be able to pass the work
He's a hilarious instructor who taught completely objectively for the whole course. He often made the material relateable and referenced other pieces of literature which was also interesting. He himself seems like an interesting person and I plan on taking more of his courses. Don't take if you dont have genuine interest in bible or its influences.
There is a lot of writing in this class because it is a writing intensive course however, He is a great lecturer. You won't get the same monotone voice that most of us are used to in History classes. He tries his hardest to be unbias since it's a bible class. If I cpuld, I'd take another one of his lectures.
This professor takes months to grade papers and give you no feedback, even though he does not have many students. His lectures are so boring and long. They also make no sense. He is very monotone. And can be very rude at points. Many papers to write and he is so PICKY. I am a straight A student and I dont recommend this professor to anyone.
I took the Bible as literature - Old Testament. He was always very lively and kept a secular view so it didnt feel like you were being preached at. There are very few grades but they are easy if you pay attention. The study guides he hands out in class can be answered in his lectures. I learned a lot about the Bible and how it influenced us.
He was a very nice guy and passionate about what he was teaching. There were 3 short study guides that were pretty easy, a midterm and final exam that you could easily get an A on if you try, and a 6 page paper on your choice of film/novel which was also an easy A as long as you try. He really cared about all his students getting A's!
He was one of the best teachers I had in my freshmen year. As a person who isn't really into the bible, I was fascinated by how he explained different passages in the bible. I don't understand what the comments about him not grading papers are about since his TA are in charge of grading.
Yo this class was a piece of cake for me, thank you 12 years of Sunday school. To pass this class with an A: literally just do everything on time, make sure your answers are correct (it's in the bible come on), and put effort on the midterm and final and the essay. I am an adequate writer and I got an A+.
