This was Mr. Proctor's first semester at TCC. He taught at the community college in Madison (Redneck Country). He was probably use to teaching inbreds, so when he came to TCC, he forgot we were more sophisticated. He likes you to be thorough on essays. Overall it's easy.
He's an experienced teacher that helps his students. If you fail his class, you must just not care. His essay test (2) are harder than his multiple choice (2). You really need to hit everything in his outline for essays or he takes off points. Multiple choice are a breeze.
Very nice guy; he’ll push you on the essay exams, but he goes to great lengths to make sure everyone passes. His unusual sense of humor might not inspire you to become a history major, but it will keep you interested. He is always helpful and understanding. Overall, a great teacher.
Awesome teacher. Probably the nicest teacher at TCC. He will help you in every way he can and his sense of humor is off the wall. He's a smart guy and sometimes does acting attempts in class.
Such a nice guy! He gets really into your test essays, but he gives ample preparation. You can tell he's into what he teaches, and has an emotional attatchment to history. Still, it can be boring what with the 24-7 droning lectures, but thats the type of class it is. Besides, he's absurdly tall:)
Amazing teacher. One of the best I've ever had. Really nice guy. Understood everything he was talking about. The tests caught me off guard though. Be sure to elaborate on your essays and go into great detail. Would recommend him to anyone.
I had him for my first semester at TCC and this guy was awesome. He lectures the entire class, but he's so enthusiastic about the subject that you don't have time be bored. Be sure to go into extreme detail on his two essay tests, and always go to class for the notes. I'd recommend him to anyone, but will admit that his class takes some work.
This is one of the most boring teachers I have ever taken. He's never stays off track he always jumping around to different subjects you'll never know exactly were he's about to take you next. He grades his test so hard he want you to put the whole book of info in the test I just don't understand him, but I would never refer him to anyone!!!!!
pretty good guy, first 2 tests are a lot of writing though
THIS CLASS WAS VERY VERY BORING. I wouldn't recommend no 1 2 take him unless u love history. He always go off topic. Everyone that was in my class dreaded comming 2 class. He stops his lectures constantly to wake up those who have fallen to sleep. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS UNLESS UR A HISTORY FREAK.
DON'T TAKE UNLESS YOU LIKE HISTORY. HE DOES NOT STAY ON TOPIC WITH HIS NOTES AND IT IS VERY DULL AND BORING
Very good teacher. Tests are in the order the notes are given. He doesn't mind absences but you will need to get the notes from someone else.
He's a great guy, I was one of his favorite students, loves his history, passionate for his job, Take good notes, and come to class, you'll get an A, or B. I enjoyed the class, it's too bad I had to wait til college to find history intersting. I would recommend him. Thanks MR. Proctor.. You're the man.. Wilson..Out!!
very good teacher
Mr.Proctor is the best Professor I have ever met. He treats his students with respect, and still manages to teach the material needed. He cares about his students and helps them as much as they need and beyond. He grades essey with much efforts, and you also can learn the grammar during his class. It's easy to get an A once u go to class regularly.
Mr. Proctor is extremely hard!!! my first 2 exams at beginning of semester were all written and each one you had to write a blue book essay!! before him i have never even done that im sure when you get up to higher universities you might need to but not a freshman!! boring..im failing i will have to retake it but not with him!!!
if you go to class and study just a little for the written exams it will be a piece of cake.
Dr. Proctor is GREAT! We had a rocky start with another pro. and he came in as our new pro. a few weeks into the sem. We had one writen test, but as long as you studied it was easy! The other 2 tests were m.c. and again as long as you came to class and studies you can pass! I recomend him to EVERYONE!!
Mr. Proctor is a great teacher!!! The tests are simple if you just study the study guide that he gives you!!! The essay tests are easy if you just study and his lectures are not boring!!! Also u have to take a final and its a great atmosphere and class to be in!!! Also he is always willing to help with whatever so take this class and teacher!!!
if you go to class and study hard you will pass. doesnt take attendence, but youll screw yourself if you miss a lot. 2 essay format tests and 2 objective; no final which was pretty sweet. hes kinda bad about going off on tangents sometimes, but youll still get what you need for the tests. multiple extra credit oppertunities which require a book.
Mr. Proctor enjoys teaching history, and makes it interesting. He sings, he jokes and he's a little goofy, but he likes being there. When he lectures, he always notes what is significant, so if your notes include that you should be allright. he gets a little freaked out by cell phones, best if its for sure OFF!
I loved history before i took this class...He just didnt make it too interesting to me. but he definatly is passionate about teaching it. Very jumpy lecturer so it makes it hard to take good notes. first 2 tests are essay and last 2 are multiple choice. YES! you do have a final, but it counts as your fourth test and is equivalent to your others.
Great Teacher, Always in a good mood. Loves Teaching history tries to get you involved, If you pay attention and take notes he makes this class a breeze.
Great professor, very knowledgable about material & many bonus opportunities available
History is boring to me, but Proctor isn't too bad. Emphasis on lecture notes which the whole class is based on so you have to go. 3 tests and final is all grade comes from.
Very good professor. He's very nice, always in a good mood. He really wants his students to do well and if ya have a question, he doesn't make you feel stupid for asking. Four tests (first 2 essay, second 2 multiple choice), including noncumulative final. You can tell that he really loves history and his job. I definitely recommended him!
I was a history major prior to his class and he totally turned me away from it. Get a different history teacher. He is horrible.
Very good professor! He is very easy and the tests aren't hard.
I have never liked history. But Proctor has high energy and keeps it interesting. Listen to the lecture, take good notes and study the FEW book terms (I hardly read the book and I have an A) and you will be set!
Proctors got mad skill when it comes to keepin his class intrested in his lectures. best class i took at Tcc
Mr.Proctor is so passionate about History. His teaching makes it so easy to retain. He tells great stories and even shows off great artifacts. He offers extra credit for every test. our first test was essay and our last 3 were M.C. The 4th test is the final and is noncumulative. The book is used for the tests. He asks questions from book material.
he is the best teacher ever trust me i know that guy who said he was bad was just a bad lazy student who dosent attend class
Great Prof! Take him!
he is a good teacher, funny and loves his job.
David is great! I loved his class and its not hard. He makes history fun and interesting. Hes got a story to go along with most topics. You need to go to class and listen to the lectures to get a good grade, but he makes going to class fun. He loves his job!
Very nice and funny teacher. Seems to really care about his students. Passionate about history.
Doctor Proctor is the best! He loves history and it shows. His tests are fair, the coursework is none, and if you read the book you don't have to come to class. The extra credit assignments are easy, and the museum visits are fun, and the papers required about them are EASY! DOCTOR PROCTOR IS THE BEST!
EXTREMELY BORING!!!THERE ARE ONLY 4 TEST INCLUDING THE FINAL...EXTRA CREDIT PTS COLLECTED FROM MUSEUM VISITS..I REALLY DONT RECOMMEND HIS CLASS AT ALL.IF IT WASN'T FOR THE GOOD REVIEWS ON HERE, I WOULDN'T HAVE TAKEN THIS CLASS. DONT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ, BUT TO EACH ITS OWN. GOOD LUCK!!!!
Dr. Proctor is a great teacher! He lectures everyday and only uses the books for tests-only the book terms that he gives you show up on the tests. There are mandatory museum visits, but they are really no big.As long as you study the lectures, you'll be fine!He loves reading, and can sometimes go on tangents but jsut humor him.
VERY passionate about history. I personally don't like history so the class was kind of boring to sit through, but he tried to make it fun and worth while. 4 tests- 1 essay and 3 multiple choice. Use book a couple times in class and need to read for every test.
The only thing that is hard about this class is going to class everyday to get the notes. He is very boring, and way to happy about history. If you get bored easily don't take this class.
Mr. Proctor is not a good teacher. He keep going and going about stop and don't keep the student attention. He has a essay for a test and expects you to remember 42 terms that you have to write a paragraph about in a week and 10 book terms also. I don't recommend him at all. he sucks.
Mr. Proctor class was real easy. just come to class and take notes. His class is long and can get boring but his notes are helpful. His study guide is exactly what to expect on the test. If you need him to look over your notes he will. before i came in his class I did not know anything about history but now I do. He give A LOT of bonuses .
Tgis Is The Best Teacher Out Their And Everyone Out There Who Thinks Otherwise Are Fat Sloobs Who Cant Get Of The Couch And Go To College For 1 DAY
If you can't pass Doc. Proctor's class, your brain cells are dead!! Uses the book for terms on the test, which are not hard. 2 essay/2m.c. He's an enthusiastic teacher, and it shows in his teaching style. He's simply one of the best professors at TCC, and if you can, take him!
Great teacher. Easy class. Make sure you go to get the notes and study your book terms and the class is easy.
Dr. Proctor made American history very interesting! The class always ended too soon. His teaching style made the subject come alive. Lots of extra credit available if you want it. Best history professor I've had at TCC.
OMG HE IS SUPER BORING.!!!! DONT TAKE DONT TAKE.! HES CORNY! IF YOU CLOSE TO THE NEXT LETTER GRADE HE WONT ROUND IT FOR NOTHING.! I ADVISE YOU TO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ.! DONT TAKE.!
Basically it's a pretty easy class. Attending is fantastic for notes. But you can work through it using his study guide and the book. You get extra credit if you bring the book, but, you can work solely with notes. The book helps. He is a little boring. It's just his voice mostly. He is enthusiastic about history, that is endearing. I enjoy it.
Awesome teacher! He freaks out sometimes about stupid things but other than that he's a great teacher. Come to class and you wont have a problem on the test. They're all lecture based. TAKE HIM.
easy.. read the book, study notes, go to class.
great class! Proctol is awesome.
You really have to listen to his lectures but hes very interesting, I don't even like history but I enjoy his class, one of the best professors at TCC and I wish I could take more classes with him. Also gives many extra credit oppertunities. Does also use the book. Easy A if your willing to put a little effort in!
This is the most boring class ever. His tests aren't to hard but he rambles on and on about useless information. He gives lost of EC though.
Great Professor, offers +10 extra credit for every test.
Great Teacher he knows his stuff that is way he got a PH. D in it. 4 tests all worth 25% he gives 10 extra credit pts for each class. TAKE HIM PLEASE!!
Dr. Proctor is an amazing history teacher. He teaches all of his lectures by spoken word, so you cannot afford to miss any classes, but he always adds in the interesting stories with the lessons as well. He really knows his stuff and is always willing to help if you fall behind. The book is necessary, as it's used on all of the tests. He's great!
He rambles every single day about stories that are from that time period that just pop into his head. Old school guy. I would not recommend taking him unless you just love history.
He makes it fun and interesting. He's a great teacher. His tests are all multiple choice and he gives you plenty of extra credit if you need it. Definitely take this class.
Can't say enough. He is an amazing teacher. Really loves history. I guarantee if you're the type to study study guides, you're good to go. He gives so many ec points, you can't fail. And he does it when people don't show up to class so I recommend not missing any classes unless you don't want extra points. HE MADE ME LIKE/UNDERSTAND HISTORY!!!!!!!!
He's goofy. Very boring, but he knows what he's talking about. If you're able to pay attention, you can learn a lot. I hated his Blue Book test with 12 paragraphs, but I ended up making a 94 on it. He teaches in a way anyone can understand. But he's just not very interesting. Oh, and he gives tons of extra credit.
This teacher gives four tests and those are the only grades. I read over 200 pages for the first test because he said it was mandatory, however nothing from the book was on the test. It is all off his lecture and the teacher is very confusing. He jumps around skipping decades of information, bouncing back and forth between events. Avoid his class.
If you are not good in history DO NOT take this class (especially online). You pretty much have to teach yourself, I watched all the lectures, read the book, did the extra credit and still managed to fail. He assumes everyone knows and loves what he teaches (all foreign policy nothing barely anything about America). Good professor but HARD class.
David proctor is like listening to a Historian on the History channel. He absolutely loves what he does. He takes his subject seriously- embrace what he teaches, go to class, and just listen with an open heart. You will learn more in this class then you have in an other class at TCC.
If you plan on missing ANY classes, don't take this class. Lectures are important and whatever pages he says to read, you have to read if you want to pass the test! Test are 50 questions and 18 of them are straight from the text! Tests are very hard! Got a D, mind you my first D ever and I graduate in the fall.
I would not recommend him unless you enjoy history. He is a nice person, but is a horrible teacher. He did not follow the syllabus and would go off onto tangents while lecturing. Again, he is nice and obviously loves history, but I dont think he can teach very well; very confusing and very very VERY boring..
Great Teacher, he obviously loves history and really cares about what he does. Don't be lazy though, always attend class, and if you study and do the extra credit you should be fine. All my friends loved his class and I definatly reccomend taking it
This was a hard class. The only thing that factors into your grade is tests with each being 25% of your grade. Lots of lecture videos, and lots of textbook reading. The book is extremely difficult to read and understand. Gotta take notes on both the book and videos. Way too much material. Study Hard! He does provide extra credit to help you.
Took this class online and did not do well. I made an A in 1041. He only has four tests for grades in the class. No homework assignments so you think it can't be too hard.WRONG! His notes are videos of himself that are incredibly boring! There is no way to see your progress or ensure good study habits for the test.Wish i could have had Mark Goldman!
THIS CLASS IS EASY! Yes, there are only 4 exams but he gives TONS of extra credit - between 18-20 points per exam. If you do the EC, you can't fail! I made 80's on all of the exams, did all of the EC and I ended up with an A. Not nearly as hard as I thought it would be after reading all of the negative reviews! This class was a breeze!!
Loved his class. Was very energetic and interested in what he was teaching, full of fun facts that he put on tests for extra credit. Kept class very interesting with random stories pertaining to what we were learning. I just wish he taught AMH2020. WORTH TAKING HIS CLASS AND EXPERIENCING IT!!!
I received an A in this class but that was due to making sure I did the extra credit he made available. I am a straight A student and enjoy history, but have to say his class seemed exhausting. He has the more writing than any other teacher I have ever seen! He does not post any power points, you have to be there to take notes or you get nothing.
Pretty boring during lectures. Goes off topic a lot and always goes over class time. Most information is mentioned during lecture but reading the book is a must. Enjoyed required museum visits. Gives extra credit opportunities if you attend class.
You only have four grades. Four exams. you have to pass 3 in order to pass. you have extra credit, but you have to visit several museums or participate in class by doing paragraphs with word count. No notes given, you have to attend to receive them. Get ready to read a good amount of page numbers to pass HALF the test
Semester consists only of 4 grades, all exams. Book is HUGE, & you have to read about 100-150 pgs for each exam. Study guides, but not helpful, very broad. Only extra credit is to visit museums & write about them. Responds to emails, but doesn't give much help.
There is a lot of reading but the power points and information is there for you. He is a really good storyteller and brings the history to life. I really recommend him. Good Guy and willing to help BUT you have to be willing to learn. Not an easy A.
Took online. Four tests. His video lectures are great but he does assign reading portions. Equips you with a study guide and everything you need to pass. Also gives multiple opportunities for extra credit. One of the best classes I have taken.
One of the hardest classes. I have NO background in History, so this could have been why it was harder for me. Cutting it so close so I don't know if I passed this class or not. To be clear he is a great teacher and helps out as much as he can, even met with me and stayed after his office hours to guide me. Makes you work for your grade. EC avail
Great guy, awful teacher! You'll pretty much be teaching yourself out of the (long and hard to understand) textbook. After weeks of lectures, he covered about 9/30 subjects on the essay test. Why would I pay for a class that i'm teaching to myself? He also tends to go off topic a lot which is why so little was covered of the actual material.
Im good at history, Dr. Proctor is a great teacher, but my god he goes off topic. One moment you will be talking about Robert E Lee, next he will tell you about the movie he saw last night. He normally only covers half the topics on the study guide, and will tell you to read for the rest of the material. Gives a ton of Extra credit tho (14 points)
only four grades in the whole class. lectures are extremely long and boring. Wouldnt recommend taking him.
He is a great teacher, and gives you every single detail. But if you aren't in class, or don't take detailed notes you will have a tough time. Half the test are based of his lectures and the other half based off the text book so don't wait till the last minute to study or you will fail. Super nice guy though and offers a lot of extra credit!
Very passionate and I mean VERY .. will get off topic quick and lectures are boring Nice guy though
A nice guy with good intentions, but he has a tendency to often go off topic during lectures which makes it harder to stay focused. The textbook is ridiculously confusing as it reads like a novel ¬ an actual textbook, but if you don't use the book the class can be difficult. Lectures are by slideshow, which have little to no information on them
Great guy who's very passionate about the subject and loves to answer questions. Cant stay on topic and as a result he covered so little in his lectures we skipped french and indian war and American revolution and went from 1500 England to American civil war in one test...?? Must attend class every day AND read text book for an A.
Good guy, good teacher. If you read and study as expected, youll do great! And if you think your falling behind or having trouble talk to him, he'll help you and give you extra credit.
His teaching style and my learning style just really did not go well together. Slideshows with very little information, and a tendency to skip over huge parts of history due to rambling. He clearly cares about his subject, but unless you're a huge history buff, it's going to be pretty hard to follow. Extra credit is very time consuming.
The whole class time is spent in lectures. I had him for Honors and his exams were all essay and short response. That being said, he was really an enthusiastic historian and a good teacher. He gave out study guides for the exams and offered several extra credit opportunities.
Proctor's enthusiasm for history made the class something that I always looked forward to. He gives weekly opportunities for extra credit through group quizzes, museum visits, and freebie questions on the tests. He also lays out exactly what will be on the tests. Strict no phone policy. No history teacher has compared since. 10/10 class.
He's a good guy, very tall. Likes to give us incites of the past to help us understand their life more than just a name. He makes a lot of his test questions based on lectures so stay in class
David Proctor was an amazing history. I never enjoyed history but he seriously tries his best to keep you engaged. He always had the best attitude and is super flexible with your schedule. There is no homework and only 4 tests. 3 are multiple choice and 1 is an essay test. He gives extra credit for each test up to 15 points. I loved him! Take him!!
I love this man. He is sweet, and i love his passion for history. However, many times, he went off topic and would go on and on about one topic for the whole class time. We do a museum project where we go to museums. Dont take him if you dont have reliable transportation. Tests are essay format if you have him for Honors. I got an A both semesters
Phenomenal professor who really cares about not only the subject matter, but also his students and truly wants you to succeed. Exams are all essays and rely heavily on lecture notes so make sure you show up and listen! Provides a tremendous amount of opportunities for extra credit. Took for 2 semesters and received A for both!
Buy the book because you'll need it for ALL the test. You need to know what your'e defining on a test so If you don't study you will NOT pass. Interesting and wonderful professor. If you want a lazy A this is not the class for you, but a A is super achievable if you study. If you study you will not go wrong and he offers a lot of extra credit.
David Proctor is a historian and teaches from the old school pencil to paper approach. His class is entirely lecture based, so you have to show up. If you take good notes and read the required book readings, the exams are not hard. He's a wonderful, insightful, and passionate man and gives tons of extra credit. Any applied student should get an A.
I took Professor Proctor's classes AMH2010 and AMH2020. I received A+ in BOTH classes. This teacher is passionate about history and cares about his students. You MUST attend his class because he doesn't post notes online, but he is very forgiving on grading and as long as you pay attention. I felt lucky I had him as a teacher.
I absolutely loved this class and the teacher/ no computers all hand written notes/Don't let the blue book essay tests scare you they are very easy as long as you take good notes read the text and study/He gives multiple opportunities for extra credit/Museum paper is fun and isn't as hard as it looks when he first gives you the guidelines.
A very passionate professor. Sometimes lectures seem to never end, but Professor Proctor means well. He does not post notes so you have to go to class and take notes to do well. He gives extra credit to almost every class that stacks onto the upcoming test and gives very accurate study guides with each exam. Pay attention and you will pass.
The main part of your grades comes from three tests and then one big paper. He gives a lot of bonuses, but if you don't stay until the end of class you won't get the bonus. Good teacher and very easy to talk too if you're confused.
Teacher is good and means well, however, its been almost 2 months and not a single grade in the books. No grades other than tests and big essay at the end. Visual learners shouldnt take this class.
Grades mainly based on tests and one large paper at the end of the semester. Very passionate and easy to talk to if you have questions. Gives lots of extra credit but make sure to take good notes and buy the book!
Great guy would take again
Prof. Proctor is an amazing teacher. Not only does he seem like a pretty cool guy, but he is also very passionate about teaching. Attendance is not mandatory, but will definitely be beneficial. I have had friends in the same history course with a different professor, and they really struggled, so I would recommend this course and professor.
This is a auditory class. If you are a visual learner it will make the class slightly difficult. Do all extra credit assignments for a secure grade. He was sweet and a good guy!
Professor proctor is a very sweet man. He does know a lot but his lectures don't have a lot to do with the test its more background knowledge. The test are done on your own at home and not on honorlock. Theres 3 test and a big project that make up your grade. The class is fairly easy. He offers lots of extra credit by just showing up.
His online class was pretty straightforward. There are quizzes for each chapter in the textbook, 3 assignment essays and take home essays to wrap up each couple of chapters. Take notes and you will do well! He can get pretty busy so don't expect reminders but he will respond via email. Provides great feedback and just all around a great professor.
I absolutely adore Dr. Proctor. Pay attention in the class. Take notes and you'll be fine. What he talks about and what he puts in the power points is on the exam. No surprises there.
Gave enough time for assignments
Great professor!
Professor Proctor knows what he's talking about, but definitely not tech savvy. Everyone was always confused on what to do and when it was due. There are a lot of quizzes, and exams all 50 questions and use honor lock. Wouldn't recommend taking his online class. You also have to visit three museums and write papers, and you have to go in person.
If taking online, he's not really tech savvy. The classwork is fairly easy and the test is also easy. You do have to write 3 papers based off of local museum visits.
I have mixed feelings. This teacher never put due dates on any assignments until they are due so make sure you check out the course outline. He requires (3) 1000 word papers about museums that you are required to go to (even though its an online class) and if you are out of district, he finds 3 near you to write about. but, he doesnt use honorlock.
Has a passion for Florida history! Those who complain expected pre-filled out study guides and exams re-worded from that/lazy style class. Even suggests you consider dropping if you don't have a good grade and/or your attendance is getting out of hand as opposed to taking an F. Exams are from lectures, doesn't try to trick you.
By far my favorite professor. I took him for History of the United States, and enjoyed it. Instead of boring papers about the book, you are required to visit different museums and write about it.
The best professor in TCC.
Assigns way too many papers, and makes them all do on the same day. Also makes you do in person visits to three local museums and write 1000 word papers on them(even though it's an ONLINE class). Do not recommend if you don't like to write or visit museums.
He is so lenient and lets you turn in assignments late. Assignments were due every Sunday. I took the express session online, and was ahead of schedule all the way. You have plenty of time to complete assignments. He doesn't use Honorlock because tests are open book, and it's an online book so you can search for things easily.
Very easy class. Assigns three papers throughout the semester where you have to go to a museum and right about what you learned. Other than that there are just some quizzes and a few other easy assignments. Easiest class I took this semester and he is a light grader on the papers.
For the entire semester there was only 4 grades that determined your grade in the class. While this wasn't an issue for me, this could be bad if you did awful on one of the assignments. Every class was a lecture and I found the information to be way to overwhelming and I wish that he would post the information online aswell. It was an easy class.
He's an easier professor. He assigns several essays throughout the semester but isn't a tough grader. There weren't any tests, just open book quizzes. Took it in the fall 2023 and still remember a lot of material. Great professor, great class. Highly recommend.
He's a good guy. His class is a bit boring, it's all lectures with a couple of big tests but he makes lots of attempts to connect with his students and he really tries to make his class interesting. He doesn't post the lectures online but if you read the textbook after missing a class you'll be fine. He's a silly and endearing man.
This professor makes the class enjoyable with assignments like museum visits and open-book quizzes. unstuck AI was a huge help with study prep too. Recommended if you don't mind writing essays.
Great professor! Friendly and helpful. Take him!
Dr Proctor really cares about your success and the information given. You probably won't do amazing on the tests if you don't go to class. Lots of bonuses are given. Communication is key, he is willing to help you. Fun projects too.
He has handwritten tests and will often tell you during his lectures what exact information he's looking for so if you miss any class make sure to get notes from someone. Overall, he's a nice and very understanding teacher.
