While he seems like a very nice person, he constantly stumbles over his words and contradicts himself. The tests don't seem to reflect the lectures, the averages have been F's although he did curve. Make sure you understand all problems mentioned in class and use the online forums/office hours to manage.

If you HAVE to take bisc403 with him don't bother going to class, all he does is read slides directly from the book so just stay home and read the book which goes in far more detail and explains stuff way better then he ever does. Dr. Raden is a good instructor. He did a great job at helping students understand what they were doing and answering ?'s. Show up to class and do the work. Half of the final grade is participation assignments and the other half is based on 2 research papers. Students were put into groups to complete assignments. Overall, an enjoyable course!

Dr. Raden is amazing. I dont understand why his rating is this low. He is fair, brilliant, really nice and caring. His exams are difficult but in depth. They prepare you to think deep and you will benefit from it if planning to take MCAT exam. The only thing is he rarely reply to emails. Go to his office hours with questions you will be fine.

Genetics is a rough class and Raden did not make it any easier. He does curve and gives extra credit for coming to lectures, but he was a boring and confusing lecturer, to say the least. His teaching style has a lot of flaws but he is nowhere near the worst professor I've had.

Probably the worst professor Ive had. Not only is he a confusing lecturer, but he demeans students for asking questions. He always trips over his words and isnt helpful. He tests on complex topics that we barely go over in class, and 4 exams80% of your grade, doesnt drop the lowest. I got a better grade in orgo than this class because of him.

Genetics is a very challenging course; its a great idea to attend the lectures. He gave 3% extra credit on the exams if you answered the "poll everywhere" questions in class. The exams are worth 80% of your grade and each exam is only about 25 questions so study the slides to be prepared. The homework was helpful to understanding the lectures.

Polls during class extra credit for exams. Problem solving 1 hr/week with TAs is VERY helpful, questions are repeated on quizzes and exams. 3 attempts for canvas quizzes so easy to get 10/10 every time. Exams were all MC and on canvas with lockdown browser, not easy but manageable if you study and did problem solving. Doesn't answer emails.

The way he explains/words his questions can throw off students, but at the same time his quizzes and exams often reuse his questions so it makes studying easier. Learning is easier from the book than lectures but he tells you in lecture what to focus on. HWs are long and test textbook topics that are not mentioned/studied in class.

80% exams, 10% homework, 10% quizzes. If you show up to lectures and answer clicker Qs you get 1-5 points added to your exam. Exams Qs are worded in a way that overcomplicates what is taught. Practice exams were easier than actual ones. Do the optional homework Qs for each chapter, as the test questions are likely some complex derivative of them.

Prepare for a semester of your classmates asking off-topic questions that completely derail lecture. Raden is a decent lecturer, but ends up cramming in new content the day before exams, as the class is always behind schedule. Problem-solving sessions are helpful. Class is not as bad as it looks, just know general concepts and problem-solving.

His lectures were difficult to follow and didnt always make sense. He also wasn't clear about what exactly was required knowledge that we could be tested on. Also gave very lengthy homework assignments that didn't relate to what we covered in lecture or exams. Never payed attention in class and got good grades on all the exams, so not difficult.

Raden asks confusing questions. Often the questions don't provide enough information to make sense or are just wrong. He doesn't seem to proof read any of his worksheets and will always respond "well, you wouldn't see a question like this on the exam" when you call him out on it. Kind of talks to you like you're in first grade.

Raden is a fine professor. His lectures can be a bit disorganized and the material is meant to be difficult, he's really easy to ask questions to. Do the readings before the homeworks and it'll help you understand. Exams are straightforward and have questions you've seen before. If you put in the work the class is fine, I'd take Raden again.

Nice teacher, but his grading scale is a bit annoying. Gives out about 12 homework assignments and quizzes only for them to be less than 10% percent while EACH exam is 25%. Not to mention, most exams were about 25 questions which is crazy. On top of that, the test heaviness of the course isn't taken into account (A = 95 or higher, B= 83 or higher)

The class itself was interesting with valuable material. One gripe with Dr. R was on the exams. It felt like you were fighting two battles, one against the complexity of the material, and the other against his desire to intentionally confuse you with convoluted questions. Every exam felt like: "well I got a 90+ or bombed it, but I have no idea."

Dr. Raden is a knowledgable professor but when it comes to class time, it is not used effectively. Very knowledgeable, but he is not good at explaining topics at a college level. He expects you to already know the lecture material before coming to class.
