He is a wonderful professor! He also knows what he's talking about and can back up all his lectures that we discuss. I like that he is confident in his work of teaching and I respect that. So if you like a lecture class, I give him two thumbs up!!!
Prof. Ray is organized and interesting. Tests come straight from his lecture power points. If you are looking for a Govt class that will teach you without stressing you out. Take Prof. Ray!
Great professor and very helpful! His test's are straight from his powerpoints.
Professor Ray is there to help you, not harm you! He didn't make us buy the textbook because he believes in saving the students' money. On top of that all of his test questions come from his lectures and powerpoints, so no surprises.
Always gives a great review for test, easy lectures to listen too, and laid back.
As long as you listen to his lectures you'll pass. His style of teaching is incredibly easy to follow and is very interesting. Very helpful.
Great professor. I definitely recommend him.
4 tests! lectures all class and thats it. simple just study for the test and you will pass. and show up.
Prof. Ray is SO amazing! He lectures with power points, and at the end of the section, he gives a review which REALLY helps. He likes you to show up for class and participate during debates. He assigns 1 paper and will give you instructions within the 1st week of class that is due later in the semester. I took him for summer 1 and it was a breeze.
Honestly he is a great teacher knows what he is talking about and you cant tell he loves what he teaches! Show up, pay attentions and you will make an A!
He was very clear about what is to be expected. he gives the best reviewsbefore each exam. This is a class that is hard not to pass.
I loved this teacher. He gives you a verbal review for the tests.
Took a online class with him this semester. Seems like a great professor but this was his first ever online class. Only 4 tests and a paper. Timed test of 60 min for 50 questions. This was not nearly enough time for me. I second guess my answers. No busy work. Just test. But if you fail one - it would take a lot of work to bring up grade.
He's a very good professor, there's no doubt about that. 3 exams easy, but VERY tricky. One paper that is kind of hard. It's 7 pages. He gives a review before every exam which is realllly helpful, but because of that the exam is really tricky. No book required. Boring lecture sometimes but he did his best to make Govt interesting I'll give him7.10
Easy class if you like Govt! He tries to make it interesting! 3 quizzes each 20% one research paper. (7) pages. Orval, put the time and you will be fine. Yes, no book needed.
Very straight forward on what to expect, give opinion during discussions part of ur grade. 4 tests lowest dropped, final replaces lowest grade. If you have an A in class before final you won't need to take final. 1 easy 5 pg essay. Always gives reviews right from tests. If you take final read all your reviews and you'll do good. Easy not stressful!
Read the comment underneath me, it's sums it all in a perfect way. I'll just add that this professor is truly trying to make you a better person. Much respect for him and his work ethics. He defiantly makes you look at the big picture. Wish I could take more classes with him. "Flood"
Awesome and easy professor who cares about helping you do well
I took Professor Ray for Federal Government during a mini session and he was wonderful! He doesn't require a book because he finds all the important stuff and puts it in a PowerPoint. His tests come straight from the PowerPoint lectures and he gives a review! He is very vocal about where he stands politically but he does it in a very respectful way
Interaction, discussion, and debate is highly encouraged.
I took Prof. Ray for federal government, and this is a professor I would recommend to anyone. Not only does he try to make the long lectures and interesting and relevant as possible, he was one of the most genuinely compassionate and well meaning professors I've had yet; really tries to open your mind and think critically, which is always a plus:)
Seems to be a great professor, the only complaint I have is he uses a power point to get all material to you instead of using the book. Good note, you don't have to pay for the book, however, if you know noting about Govt reading just power points did not make things real clear for me on each topic, I needed to have more material to have clarity.
Prof Ray is a very unique guy, make sure you make yourself heard during his lectures as participation is 20% of the your final grade. Provides a review before the tests and has PowerPoint posted (still need to attend class!). Very informative and gave me a better more interesting view of the government.
Professor Ray has the right idea of an online course. He was very helpful and had a straight-to-business kind of teaching approach: He has mastered the art of simplifying Texas Government. HIs lectures were extremely easy to follow. What's best is he doesn't make you buy a textbook!!! I would recommend this Gov. Professor above all others!!!!!
Read questions on tests closely
If you are looking for A's in Professor Ray's course I suggest you look elsewhere. He is passionate about the material, but if help is needed on the review it's easier to Google than convince him to help. He has invalid/missing information on the slides, and "trick questions" on his tests using typos/misspellings. Won't take again, won't recommend.
Great professor gives great opportunities due to his experience in the past and also due to the political nature of the class he is very much unbiased and gives good points for all sides not trying to make people think a certain way. Overall my favorite professor so far sadly i couldn't fit into the online course for this upcoming summer class.
Took him online as a mini semester. All online, 3 test and a final. Read Power points and you will be good. No textbook needed. 4 discussion boards, time consuming to look up answers but good learning experience.
Easy A, but participation matters. Loved Professor Ray, he was great.
I took him for summer school online for federal gov. He gives you a week to write a one page essay of basically your opinion on the issue he posts on discussion board. Definitely not a class to stress over.
MUST TAKE! I took his Hybrid online/classroom course. He gave no lectures in class, instead we had debates/watched movies. The week before each test he'd review, giving word for word about 95% of the questions on the test & you'd just go look the answers up in his powerpoints. Only grades were tests, 1 essay, & attendance grade. Exemptions forfinal
Not a tough grader at all. Has a review day day before test & test questions are similar. Only has 1 essay, but it's a fun topic & just do what the rubric says & you'll get an easy 100.
Honestly, I just wish I was in a more outspoken class. The topics we talk about can be quite interesting, and it's funny to get into arguments about different perspectives; however, if the class is quite dead, it can drag hard. Overall, I would definitely take his class again amazing teacher. Don't forget to VOTE!
The expectations for this class are set out in the first week. It is very precise and to the point, no confusions.
I am an older student and I don't just want to watch movies. The professor is ok and other students like him because he is super easy. However, there are other professors out there that can teach meaningful information without wasting time playing movies.
I took him for Gov 2305 and I will take him for Texas Gov because he is very easy. He has one essay and 3 test. Participation and attendance are key because he likes when people engage in class discussions so If you miss class you miss great lectures. I recommend you taking a recorder for each class.
I just finished taking his 3 week mini course and he is a great teacher he is very clear with instructions and one of the nicest professors i have ever had , i would highly recommend taking his class
I took him in a 3 week mini course & it was super easy. All you need for tests is from his power points on black board & he advised us to only look at those and not waste money on the book. His class was not boring & he let us out an hour early or more every class. He gives a review that's just like the test so just about everyone got an A.
Professor Ray is very clear on what assignments need to be done from the start. He has 3 sections which contain powerpoints and some videos that you HAVE TO STUDY. The answers to his exams come straight from the powerpoints. You have to be active in the discussion boards too. Your grades depend on that as well! Overall- Easy
This was my first 5 week class and it was a breeze. The class consisted of a 5 page essay (counting the cover page and reference page), 4 DBs, 4 Tests and the Final Exam. The topics for the DBs and the essay were interesting and based on recent events. He is very organized and straight forward on how he wants things done, would take again!
Took Mr. Ray for a 5-week summer class. You had 4 discussion boards with one page responses, 3 exams, 3-5 page research paper and final exam. Enjoyed the discussion board with current events.
No txtbook required. Reviews are from the test. Taken him for federal & texas govt. 5 points taken off participation if you are absent unless you have a reasonable excuse. Favorite class. Three tests & one 3-5 page essay (common assignment). He drops 1 test, if you have an A you are exempt from the final. Rounds grade up by the decimal. (89.590)
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR. Expectations are clear from the get-go, and if you screw up he gives awesome feedback. He also kinda gives you freedom to be expressive as you want in the assignments. Last but not least, NO TEXTBOOK! All the answers are in the power points. Would take again if I could!
Professor Ray only grades on participation, 3 tests, a paper, and the final. He gives a review before each test where 90% of the questions he asks will be on the test. If you make an A on each test you will be exempt from the final. Just go through the notes answering all the questions from the review and email him about answers you couldn't find.
Great professor with just as good feedback. Lectures can be boring but participation matters. The entire grade-book is made up of 3 exams, 1 (4 pg) paper, participation, and a final. Basically tells you exactly what you need to know during the review (don't dare yourself to skip it). Wish I had taken him for GOVT 2305.
He was good, the only thing was participation in class matters ALOT to him. He makes that very known. Youre specifically graded on that as well. So if youre not a talker it could scare you a bit. Other than that, hes perfect. No textbook! Just 3 tests & a paper pretty much. Nice dude.
Great teacher. Easy tests because the reviews are basically all the questions. Would take again! Cool dude. 3 exams and one essay. Easy A
Great professor! Mostly does PowerPoints and does review and speaks about them before test. I love this teacher, he lets us out early and understands we all have a life outside school. God bless this guy. NO EXCUSE TO FAIL. I would take him again anytime.
David Ray is a wonderful professor. He gives good lectures and will let you out early. Class participation is very important. He gives reviews in which all the answers to the test are on. I highly recommend him and would definitely take him again.
I took his Federal Gov. Summer Mini Hybrid course. He is literally one of the best professors Ive had. Hes very clear on his grading and literally this is an EASY A class. He is very clear on how his grading system works and its basically a show up to class and youll pass. Exams were easy and his reviews were spot on in what youd expect to see
He was great! I took him for a 5 week summer mini and it was an easy A. You get 3 tests, 1 final and 4 discussion boards with one major paper to write that is required by the school not him. He is an easy grader with the papers! Tests are easy, all come straight from his PPTs. Final is made from the previous 3 tests. No textbook required.
This is a fairly effortless class. I took him for Govt2305 and class was basically show up and listen to him talk. He gives you a review which is literally the exam, it takes about 1-1.5 hours to find all the answers in PP, after that its just memorizing things. One essay but thats only bc the college requires it, he gives you months to do it.
Currently taking his hybrid. All we do is go to class once a week and were hardly there the whole time. He gives a review and its a copycat of the exam, all we have to do is find the answers then remember it. SUPER EASY CLASS! Anybody who gives a bad review didnt take the 2 hours to look up answers and remember them, literally. Easy A! Nice guy!
You CAN get exempt from the final. You must have an A though, but its not hard to get. 3 exams plus final (which again you can get exempt) , he drops your lowest grade. Wish all my classes were this easy lol.
easiest class you can ever take. no homework only one research paper and 3 test (very easy) 4 if you don't get exempt from the final.
I took this class online. 3 tests + accumulative final, 9 DB, and 1 research paper. No textbook needed, all tests come straight from the power point notes he gives you. Grades very easily in my opinion. Easy A!
Great Professor.
Professor Ray is by far one of the best in the industry. He understands his students, he is clear cut, straightforward and offers very relevant, interesting discussion boards. Dont wait until the last minute for assignments and this class will be both enjoyable and easy. One major paper for the semester and it is also super clear instructions.
Prof Ray is awesome! He tries to get through his lectures quickly and will let you out of class ASAP. Only 3 exams, 1 paper, and attendance is a grade. Will let you exempt final if you have an A at the end of the semester. Gives a review before each exam. All answers to review are in his powerpoints that he uploads online.
This is the most laid back professors that I ever had. If you fail his class, you simply chose to. He will talk the whole lecture, but he lays everything out for you. 1 research paper & 4 exams & lowest drops or exempt from final. Participation is a grade, so show up. The easiest A you will ever make. Take him, he's awesome!
Want an easy A in Govt? Take his class online. He asks almost 2 discussion boards each month and 4 tests in total. Every test answer is on his content and quizlet. Will surely take in future.
Among the best Professors available. Highly recommend his class. He provides the material and information in a manner that everyone with a set of ears can relate and understand. 3 exams and a paper, Show up, pay attention take notes, study the review and Easy A. Your actually able to learn and retain the information rather than study to memory dump
The teacher was very good about responding to my emails, and the class content was easy. He provided notes that were avaiable to use on the test. Would definitely reccommend.
David Ray is one of my favorite professors by far. His power points are clear cut and understandable. I took him online this semester and found his class to be the perfect balance of retaining while not being overwhelmed. He assigns the bare minimum to learn Texas Government and no busy work- which makes the work you actually do very important.
Professor Ray is great. Everything is on PowerPoint and class discussion. His test reviews are straight from the test, all the tests are straight from the PowerPoints. Gives extra credit!
He is great and it was a simple class you do have 9 discussion boards, 3 exams which he gives you all the notes for, a research paper and a final. He was really understanding during the COVID-19 and even gave 10 points to your lowest exam. If I had to take a class with this professor again I would that's how amazing he is. AMAZING PROFESSOR!!!!!
I took this online there were 9 DBs, 3 exams, a research paper, and the final exam. I got B's on the exams although we were allowed to use slides he provided. They had much info that I could not find answers quickly enough. On the research paper he gives you options for topics. He answers emails and made changes with the pandemic of COVID-19.
great online class. TAKE HIM ONLINE. clear expectations easy class
Mr. Ray is an awesome professor but hes straight to the point. Lectures typically end early. 4 test are given but if you have an A average you are exempt from final. He doesnt take the paper/common assignment lightly. Test are 40-50 questions and he goes over a review in class. Its not hard to make an A in his class. Definitely take him!!!
Professor Ray is a great professor. Exams come straight from PowerPoints, 3 exams and final one paper make an A and youll be exempt from the final. Gives the option of extra credit to put an extra 10 points on your lowest test grade. He cares about his students passing.
It was so worth taking this class. Very easy to make an A. There is only 3 exams which all of the answers are found in his powerpoints 1 paper and discussion boards. He drops your lowest exam and the final is optional if you make an A.
Class is very easy! Awesome professor!
took him for a summer semester 5 week course he had 3 exams , 5 discussions which had to be a page with a reference , and a paper. If you averaged a 90 the week of finals you didn't have to take it. Once you do the work easy class. Oh and all his exams were open book and open notes.
He is a tough grader and expected you MUST have BEST GRAMMAR. NO EXTRA CREDIT in this class and you have to read a lot. So don't take him if you don't like to read. Also test is heavy and hard to find in the lecture and sources. Not gonna take his class again.
Professor David Ray was really great; I took him online over the summer. His syllabus and grading criteria were clear. 4 discussion boards, 3 exams, 1 final (you can opt out if you have a 90 or above in the class), and a research paper with a minimum of 1500 words. Very doable and I ended up enjoying the class more than I initially thought I would!
Professor Ray's class has been such an incredible online class to take. I am not completely finished with it yet (we have finals left), but if you are looking for a solid, informative Federal/Texas Government professor that has adapted well to the online format, this is the one. Prof. Ray is knowledgeable, understanding, and lectures very well. A+!
His class is very simple, you just have to read and get ready for tests. Professor Ray is one of the best professors I ever had, caring, good heart, willing to work with you if you have any specific health issues like mine. ADHD, Anxiety.
I highly recommend Professor Ray. He is extremely understanding and gives you everything and all the tools to pass. Powerpoints are easy and accessible at all times. All of the exams are based directly on his PowerPoints. He even gives you the chance to opt-out of the final if you maintain an A. (I made a B due to my own lazy faults) A great prof!
Proferssor Ray is easy as long as you do all your work. Ive taken both govt classes online with him. he does have a requirements on his discussion boards and you must follow the number words and mla. His test are easy come straight from his power points. Hardest thing was the research paper but if you time manage your time its fine.
I took the class as a 5-week hybrid class but retrospectively wish I would've taken an entire semester. Overall, the class was fairly rushed and I feel like it was more of a studying class than a lecture heavy class but the class, as well as professor, were among the best I've ever had and would recommend it to anyone with the option to take it.
The course has three exams and a final. If you have an A, u dont have to take the final, if not, u take it and your lowest exam is dropped. There are 8 discussion boards that have to be in APA format, at least 1 citation, 1 reply, and min 250 words. You usually have weeks to work on these DBs and they are over interesting topics. + research paper
The hardest thing to do was the research paper and he takes so long just to grade an assignment. I suggest you take a different teacher.
This professor is so easy! If you split your screen w/ the exam & the given powerpoints, you'll do fine. The research paper is easy! If you're a good writer anyway, then you'll score high. I completed it in 4-7 days, and got a 100. He postpones things due to students' inactivity w/ the assignments. He responds to emails in 5-10 mins tops! Take him!
3 exams 1 final, 1 research paper (1500 word minimum), and 5 discussion questions. Pretty easy. The professor is really respectable with your opinions on each topic and keeps an open mind. I only wish we had lectures for the information on the exams instead of discussing topics in class that we had to do in the blackboard discussions anways.
This man was a great professor, to the point where I tried to take him for my other government classes. I took him for summer 2022 mini course; 5 Discussion Boards 250 words (with 5 replies 100 words aka 1 each D.B.), 3 tests (40 questions), 1 research paper (1500 words), 1 extra credit opportunity (1 page paper/250-300 words), and 1 final. Easy!
Honestly, great prof. I took prof. both for GOVT 2305 and 2306, both courses were really easy. The exams questions are all based on open notes that he provides in powerpoints, along w/ a research paper on whats trending in todays society (can finish in one sitting tbh). DB are easy, just follow the requirements. I recommend taking him!
I really liked this professor super easy class. BUT the one thing I did not like about him is how picky he is with word count make sure you hit the word count that he wants or he will take off. There are 8 DB, 4 test and of course the signature assignment.
I took him as a hybrid class. Test days were that whole week off and the questions you could use your powerpoint notes. Lectures were more based on the discussion boards that we had every few weeks ( 8 in total). The Research paper was 1,000 words but he wasnt tough on grading that. Im taking him again for texas government.
Took his online winter mini and enjoyed it. As long as you make the time to do ur work and study then you should be fine. The course had 3 exams 1 final, 1 research paper, and 5 discussion questions. I love writing so I had no issues when it came to the DB's or the research paper. Not a tough grader as long as you follow his detailed instructions.
Took him for 2306 too, literally great
I had Professor Ray last semester (Fall semester 2022 ~ in-person class) and he was amazing! He has good communication skills, is very clear with directions and assignments, provides needed material, and is overall a wonderful professor. 10/10 would take his class again.
Professor Ray made it clear from the beginning what his expectations were, as long as you follow them, you are golden! He is a caring Professor and does give you an opportunity for extra credit. Remember your deadlines, and follow them. Would 100% take again.
Took this professor for both government classes. He is the best! Exams and discussion boards were very easy. As long as you show up, do your work, and participate you should get an A.
Great professor that is quick to respond to emails and help. Was an easy grader. You have one major essay to write and 1 extra credit essay. The rest of the class is discussion boards and tests. He provides the material so you dont need a textbook. Nice professor to deal with and understanding if you have a family.
The 3-week mini course is easy to follow. 6 discussion boards, 1 research paper, and 3 open-note exams. Be prepared to write a lot. Professor Ray grades fairly, just stick to the word count limit and the exams were pretty easy. Overall a great instructor and I would recommend it to anyone looking to knock out govt over the 3 week break.
If you're looking for a government professor, this is the man to go to. his class is full of writing BUT its super easy and over topics that are actually interesting.
Professor Ray is an amazing professor. He uploads his PowerPoints onto Blackboard, so you can access them outside of class. Our grades consisted of six discussion boards, one long essay, three tests, and a final.
My words for this person wouldn't fit the guidelines. Never taking this professor ever again.
Take this course if you do not mind having due dates due at 5pm during the week.
6 total discussion boards for the semester which are pretty interesting. 3 mandatory exams (questions originate from the PowerPoint & is also open note). One signature assignment. If you have an A, the final exam is optional. Remember to log in at least once per week for attendance. Overall, very easy class!
Class is very straightforward. 4 tests and 6 discussion board posts. Just follow the criteria for the discussion board and you will get a 100. Tests are all open notes, overall easy class.
VERY EASY AND STRAIGHT FOWARD CLASS. 100% recommend. It's not much work, however it is a lot of writing and researching but it's not difficult. He's also very caring and understanding.
I love this professor It gives you almost a whole month to complete the tasks. The tasks are based on readings and discussion but! They are super easy! You will love this class especially this teacher. This class is very organized and very calm.
His hybrid class was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. He is funny and loves to talk about real-world issues.Sounds like Joe Rogan.
I loved taking this course. The grading criteria was clear and there was no busy work. All the assignments felt meaningful and thought provoking. The course consist of six discussion boards, a research paper, four exams, and a final. I highly recommend Professor Ray.
Professor Ray is caring, humorous, and open-minded. He prepared my class for each exam and provided help often. He does put more emphasis on writing and grammar so prepare to write more than most courses. Regardless, take his government classes to fulfill your credit.
Professor Ray is a great professor and a easy class with no stress if you don't procrastinate. We had 4 test for the semester which were online open note and given 4-5 weeks to finish two essays for homework every month. Very great lecturer and easy to follow.
i took professor Ray in summer semester 2024 for 2nd 5week his discussion boards are major grade there atleast 1 research paper and 3 exams + final exam because of beryl his work extended it was it stressful because research paper is minum 1,500 words required still A good professor and good feedback take him.
his class is okay , not hard but he is not understanding to be honest. If you do not mind having assignments due at 5pm do then take him but if you're a busy person I recommend to not take him .
Lecture, discussion boards, research papers, and tests is all you will do here. Super easy as long as you turn everything in on time. Will even let the class out early if lecture is done.
Second-semester Taking Proff. Ray and I regret nothing. Easy class and it's more fun when you speak during class. And if you ever want to stay behind and talk to him about anything, will gladly talk with you on class topic or not. One of my favorite prof at San Jac!
This lecturer was excellent! I had no issue following along with the content because the lecture was so simple. Although attendance was mandatory, it was never a pain because the lessons were so interesting. The course material was still understandable and structured even without the usage of textbooks.
He was amazing, everything he want you to do was in his syllabus, provided a calendar from the day the course was open on when assignment is open and need to be complete in that period of time. 6 DB, word count matter, can be time consuming but actually really fun. NO LATE WORK and log in once every week for attendance. 3 Exams, 1 Finals. Take him.
Took him back to back for summer and fall for 2306 and 2306. Super easy professor, has clear guidelines and deadlines, and does not have an insane amount of assignments. He does have a 1500 word paper one time in the semester, but its not too bad. Textbook is not required, all notes are online. Would definitely take him again if I needed to!
I took Professor Ray for both GOV 2305 and 2306 and I highly recommend him. His class was by far the easiest I have ever taken. The only thing you have to do is write a lot of discussion board posts, but the topics can be interesting and he gives plenty of time to do them. Also if your grade is at least 90, you're excused from taking the final!
I took his hybrid class, and he was an amazing professor! He is the reason that I am so informed and up to date on issues or controversial topics going on in our government at the state and federal level. The workload itself is not heavy and is easy as long as it is completed on time, and he gives us plenty of time. I would highly recommend him!
He allows students to speak their minds during class discussions and always has honest and morally admirable rebuttals. This class also has very clear guidelines and he makes everything so accessible to students. My GPA is boosted from taking this class and I would definitely take another class with Professor Ray.
Great, chill, easy
Overall not a tough class and gives more than sufficient time to complete assignments but will give you a zero without hesitation if you fail to meet even one requirement. Not very compliant when it comes to making up grades or extra credit assignments to help your grade.
great professor, there are 3 work sections. 2 500+ word discussion boards and 1 exam for each section. there is also a paper and final exam. It is a really easy class, take him:)
best teacher ngl. 1 month to do 2 discussion boards (500 words). all exams online. final was exempt if u like it final grade. professor was good and entertaining. just show and do ur work, u will get a A. only hard thing was the SA but it was manageable, easy grader!! goat
He does not give a lot of assignments, and the tests are open notes, which is helpful. I did not like the discussion boards, at least he gave a month to get it done. I had a lot of reading to do to know what the discussions were about. If you like political topics, you will love this class, and it will be easy for you.
This professor doesn't require textbooks, which is a big incentive. However, his three-week mini is extremely intensive. His discussion boards are fun if you are politically savvy, but they are extensive. He overloaded his mini class, which makes it hard to retain the information. He seems like a great prof, who wants you to succeed otherwise.
I had this lecturer for a mini-course in July. The research paper must be at least 1,500 words Four 50-question exams. six discussion boards is at least 500 words long and has several questions to respond, as well as citations. Finally, you must write at least 100 words to one of your classmates on each discussion board.
This class is a bit hard for people who don't understand politics or gov. You'll have to research on your own. We had 6 discussions 500 word min and 3 tests. There's also one essay 1500 words. That was probably the hardest assignment so get started on it ASAP. You'll do fine. Tests are easy and open note so it's not too difficult to pass.
