Dr. Reed is a good teacher. His class is hard, but you'll learn a lot.
Great professor! you never know what to expect with him. he tries to get the class involved and uses everyday objects to help illustate concpets, making it easier to learn and understand them. Easy A!
Dr. Reed is a great teacher, brings plant science to life in practical, useful ways. You almost forget you're in a "science class" because you get so much information. Tough tests so study hard and attend lectures, he makes them worthwhile by doing the wildest stunts!
I had Dr. Reed back in 1998. He was great. He was one of the greatest educators of my entire student career.
Incredibly rude. Puts on a show, but does not really care about students, only himself.
Had his class recently, and his text is outdated and for the most part incorrect. Needs to consider updating or retiring. Preferably the latter.
hilarious
Fun-loving, entertaining prof. Helps those who can't learn just by listening - he uses fun visual aids. Likes to make people laugh. Genuinely helpful and friendly. Gives practical information to anyone who's ever going to have a yard. Easy and fun science credit.
His lectures are all posted on the internet, but it is not reliable that they will be up before the exam. He is very entertaining.
Probably one of my favorite profs ever. Classes are entertaining, and he posts very useful practice exams before each exam. He uses lots of visual aids and gives lots of practical knowledge. If I could take every class from him I would.
He is AWESOME & HILARIOUS! i attended some lectures & and he always managed to make me smile.
Keeps class interesting. NO POINT IN GOING TO CLASS. No extra credit offered. Arrogant when in a one on one setting.
Dr. Reed is one of my favorite profs that I've had. His class isn't very hard, but you do have to study. He's really helpful though if you have any questions and I highly suggest attending his review sessions, they help a ton.
Absolutely LOVED Dr.Reed. Such an interesting professor that makes learning fun and is extremely willing to help you succeed. Never a dull moment in class and tests are an easy B if you pay attention in class. He's an interactive teacher who encourages his students to speak up which was truly helpful.
Very helpful with basic plant facts. Made horticulture a fun science to study.
Super funny, truly enjoy his class. He makes the material interesting.
Dr. Reed is a very interesting guy, and will try his hardest to make all of his lectures interesting and clear by relating it to things that the students see and witness each day. He wrote his own lecture book and lectures directly from the information in the book. The tests are difficult, but he is usually holds review sessions to help refresh.
Absolutely LOVED this class. It wasn't super easy, but he made it super fun and entertaining. Would definitely recommend.
Dr. Reed truly cares about horticulture and his students. He knows the material and lectures in a way that is easy to understand. Lectures straight from the Lecture Supplement, don't buy the extra book. You won't need it. Highly recommend taking, easy B if you don't do anything. Posts lectures online. Great review sessions, TAKE THE PRACTICE TESTS!
Great prof-- horticulture isn't really my thing. I took it for my Life and Physical Science credit and I am praying to make it out with a B.
Favorite Class of the semester! Professor Reed makes class so fun that I actually wanted to go. His lecture supplement was written by him so it helps ALOT with tests. He records lectures so if you miss you can go watch it. He makes everything very visual so you understand it better. But be prepared to study for tests, those are your only grades.
Prof. Reed is a great teacher, and very funny. He is very laid back, and good with visual demonstration. Goto the exam reviews, he will tell you almost every question on the exams there. If you miss a class, it can be viewed in the WCL In class he will also tell you the material he wants you to know. He was by far my favorite professor of the year.
amazing prof. Very knowledgabl. Makes lectures interesting that's for sure. Tests are your only grades. Theres 4 non cumulative. If you study youll do fine and if u pass the tests u dont have to take the final!
Dr. Reed is LITERALLY the BEST professor I have EVER had. He is super funny and is really good at making difficult concepts simple! If I could take him for all of my HORT classes I would. Class isn't mandatory because the notes are pre-typed in a spiral but trust me you will want to go.
Dr. Reed was by far my favorite prof!!! Extremely hilarious (brought me many tears of laughter) and knows what he's talking about. There are 4 tests plus an optional final but he drops your lowest grade! Tests are easy if you study and pay attention in class. Definitely recommend him! Made going to class fun!
He is by far one of the greatest profs you'll have. Helped me bring my grade from a D to an A. drops the lowest test grade and always tries to help the student first
I was never really interested in taking Horticulture but Professor Reed made it interesting and fun! He was by far my favorite professor that semester. He puts up practice exams before each test and also has a review in his class the day before the exam. Worth taking!
He is absolutely hilarious and passionate about horticulture. If you are thinking about taking this class to satisfy the science requirement, it is easy enough to make an A in with minimal effort.
Dr. Reed is one of the best professors ever! He really brings life to the class and helps you to see how interesting it is. His lectures are always funny and never get boring. I would definitely take this class again!
Dr. Reed is a good prof! He makes the lectures fun and entertaining, and is very passionate about what he teaches. He videos all his lectures, so you can go back and watch if you missed class (because he does not take attendance) or need to review material. His tests are extremely hard, so if you do not study, you will not pass!!
Dr. Reed is a good prof! He makes lectures fun and entertaining! He is very passionate about what he teaches. He videos all lectures so if you miss class or need to review material it's there. His exams are very hard, so studying is a must. There are 4 exams and then a final which is comprehensive.
He is really funny and great at explaining topics because he fully understands the subject. If you show up and get the information, you should pass. The subject is pretty boring, but he makes it interesting.
Only 4 exams and a final, but he will drop the lowest out of the 5. Lectures the whole class off a course packet that you can purchase (BUY IT). He tries to make class fun but can get off topic easily. Take notes and you can pass easily.
Dr. Reed is one of my favorite professors. He is hilarious, makes material easy to understand, and lectures are rarely boring. Throughout lectures he will give you examples of exam questions and will let you know what will and will not be on the exams. There are 4 exams and 1 comprehensive final. You are allowed to drop 1 test (drop the final).
He makes lectures really interesting! He tells you exactly what's going to be on the test during class so I would definitely go. You do have to study a lot but I would take him again!
Dr. Reed is now my favorite prof at A&M. He really loves what he teaches, and really wants to help you learn. He even hosted a session this semester on how to find your learning style and how to utilize it to study! While attendance isn't required, I would still recommend going because he will give you info that's not in the book, but on exams.
Dr. David Reed is my favorite professor at TAMU, he's extremely passionate about what he teaches, and makes every lecture interesting. He has review sessions that are extremely helpful the night before each exam, and also posts old exams that are similar to each test. Such a fun class, TAMU needs more professors like him.
Dr. Reed was really nice and tried to make this class as fun as possible. However, this was a 75 minute lecture that seemed to drag on even further. Tests are pretty tough and will catch you off guard. Does put his lectures online so attendance isn't mandatory but encouraged.
Best prof Ive had here by far, which is high praise considering I barely scraped a B in the class (tests are hard). Dr Reed is a genius in his field and an Assoc. Dean. He teaches one section of this intro class because he loves teaching and that shows! Our country needs more educators like Dr Reed, he is an inspiration. Puts lecture videos online.
Dr. Reed is awesome!! Makes somewhat tedious material interesting. I never went to class because he video tapes all his lectures and posts them online. I studied a lot, but it is definitely not too hard to get an A. One of the best profs I've had at TAMU.
Dr. Reed was an awesome professor. He really tries to make the subject interesting and is very understanding and passionate. However, this class is not an easy A. You do have to put forth the effort and study. He puts the lecture videos up online so I never went to class and made a B, but with more studying I probably could have made an A.
Dr. Reed is AMAZING. He takes a boring subject and makes it fun and very interesting. The "textbook" is just his lecture notes, which makes it really easy to follow along. If you study the book well, you'll make A's. He also holds review sessions the night before the test and goes over everything that's going to be on the test. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Great professor! He teaches you to the point where you will be passionate about the course even if you hate science. You must study or you will fail for tests. He records his lectures but going to class is way better. Definitely recommend Dr. Reed!
Amazing profession! Not an easy A, but if you actually apply yourself, study the notes, and go to the review sessions, you can definitely make an A. He is very funny and does lots of goofy things in class. He doesn't take attendance, but I would go. He post the lectures online, but I found it more effective to just go to class. I highly recommend!
Dr. Reed is an amazing lecturer. He is kept class interesting and funny and the tests were not that bad. If you do well on the first 4 tests you can skip the final which is an added bonus!
Dr. Reed's lectures make me actually want to go to class, they are very memorable which will help you on the exams! His exams are very straight forward... going to class with minimal studying will easily get you a B!
Dr. Reed is an amazing professor who is clearly very passionate about horticulture. He does a great job of making the material as interesting as possible. Making an A is difficult if you don't put in the effort, but without even going to class (watching his lectures online) you can easily make a B. 4 exams with an optional comprehensive final
Great guy but don't slack off. Go to class and work for a solid understanding of the material.
As A business major taking Hort 201 as a "easy" science credit quickly became a big mistake and became my hardest class. You learn soil chemistry, anatomy, biology, atmospheric science, entomology, and even some mathematics. I highly recommend choosing an easier class. David Reed is a really great, funny guy who knows his stuff. Only test grades!!!
Very good speaker and professor! He tries to make himself as accessible to students as possible. Lectures are awesome and essential to go to if you want to ace the exams--but lectures are available outside of class. Definitely not an "easy science credit" due to the work, studying, and overall effort needed when taking this course.
Easily my favorite professor at A&M. His lectures were the only lectures I would never miss because they were that fun and interesting. For someone who hates science, that is saying something. You don't need the textbook but you do need to go to class or watch the lectures online to do well in the class... but trust me, you'll want to go.
The subject can get pretty boring, but Reed is awesome. Super funny old man, very weird, and definitely makes class interesting. He has a lecture supplement, but you really should go to class as that's when you get the info you really need for the tests. Study a little, but tests are very straightforward. Cares a lot about his students. Great prof.
As of now I think Dr. Reed is my favorite prof at A&M. He makes an effort to teach to all the different learning styles and does a really good job at it - he literally made learning about soil interesting. You can tell he really loves what he does and cares about his students. The class is easy if you just put in a little effort!
This is a great class!! not exactly an easy A, but I only studied a few hours the night before and it was pretty easy!!! He's a really funny guy and lectures are usually pretty interesting but he videos them and posts them on media matrix before the exams so actual attendance is not necessary.
My favorite professor that I have ever had at Texas A&M. He makes himself very easy to contact by giving you his cell phone and home phone number so that you can call him anytime. He makes coming to class fun and VERY entertaining. The class itself was pretty difficult. You'll definitely have to put in the study time to get a good grade.
Definitely don't take for an easy science credit because it's not really an easy A. I would only recommend taking it if you have somewhat of an interest in the subject or else it can tend to get boring. Reed does a good job of trying to make lectures exciting but this just wasn't very interesting to me which made it harder for me.
Doctor Reed is definitely one of the funniest and well respected professors I've taken here so far at A&M. The only grades are tests and he drops the lowest one which makes the final optional if you're happy with your grade. My advice is to definitely stay on top of this class from the get go. Its not entirely hard, but it can be if you don't study
Not only is his class not very difficult, but he's so passionate about the subject and really tries hard to help his students learn. He's extremely accessible outside of class and as long as you go to class and listen, you should get an A (I learned that the hard way). & he's really funny which helps keep your attention. 10/10 recommend
Dr. Reed is one of the best professors I've ever had. I've never had a more prepared teacher who was so honestly interested in the subject. He knew exactly what he wanted to get out of each class to the second and kept us all well engaged in the subject matter. I actually learned a lot in this class for the long term, rather than just memorizing.
I'm no fan of plant science but I am a fan of professor Reed. He gives life to his lectures and really cares about his students learning, he even offered a separate lecture on learning styles and study tips one night after the class average was lower normal. Re-watch the lectures he puts online and take the practice exam the night before the test.
He is seriously so funny and makes going to class fun. It is definitely not a super easy class because you do have to put in a lot of work. He makes learning about plants not so awful.
I took this course because I needed a science credit, and it was not too difficult. Yes, there are easier science credits out there, but if you put in study time you can make at least a B. This course is only difficult if you do not study. Also, professor Reed is very funny so that was a plus.
he is the BEST prof!!!! attendance isn't mandatory and he tapes his lectures and posts them so you never need to come to class. He makes plants so interesting and his lectures are super fun because he's hilarious! definitely would recommend this class for anyone looking to take a science credit. tests are hard but not bad. very do able
Dr. Reed is one of A&M's best profs! Although attendance is optional (lectures are posted on youtube), he makes coming to class enjoyable with his remarkable personality. His dedication to his job really comes through in his lectures. His license plate even says "HORT 201!"
Dr Reed is great. If you're looking for an interesting elective definitely take this class. He knows his students well and will teach you things you'll use later in life, no matter what your major is. All his lectures are on youtube so you don't ever have to go to class. Just be sure to watch the videos and you'll easily get an A.
One of the best classes I've ever taken honestly. Reed is hilarious, entertaining, and an awesome teacher. You learn a lot and it's not a blow off, but just go to class and study the booklet the night before till you memorize it, and you'll make an A+ easily. Wonderful professor, it's a joy to take his class!
If you are taking this class as an easy science credit, you should try another class. Dr. Reed is really interesting in class and does help you learn. The class in general is difficult. You really have to put in the work and study if you want to pass this class. Start studying days prior because the tests are very specific.
Dr. Reed has been my favorite Prof. His lectures are so amazing and attention keeping. He is hilarious! His tests are harder than he leads on, but he posts old tests online so you can get a feel for how he asks questions. Study the textbook because questions are directly out of it.
I absolutely loved this class! His lectures are very interactive and follow along directly with his lecture notes (i.e. the textbook for the class). The tests are a little difficult but he provides old exams that are very similar to what he is looking for.
Class is not mandatory and he posts videos of his lectures online. However, I recommend attending because sometimes the video audio is messed up. Very funny and interactive with class. If you're a punny person, you'll be able to remember his jokes for his tests. Definitely have to study hard for tests. Easy lectures; follows along with his notes.
Don't be fooled by thinking horticulture is a given A, if you want an A you really have to prepare at least a 4 days in advance prior to test day. Dr. Reed is kind and goofy during lecture but changes his attitude drastically on exam day. He puts his lectures on youtube but go to class!!
Dr. Reeds hort 201 was one of the best class experiences I have had at tamu. The entire course is based on 4 exams, 1 of which gets dropped. Lectures gets posted only and is taught from his own book so it is easy to follow along. Super fun and interesting class overall!
Brilliant prof. Correction to the last reviewers comment: 5 exams, 4 will be 25% each, one will be dropped. Group project for extra credit. Interacts well with students. First exam I studied the day before and made a B. For every exam after that I reviewed notes 3-4 days in advance. All were As.
I enjoyed this class. It is great for any major and is really educational. Reed makes learning about plants and soil fun! Always makes class as interesting as possible even during the plant hormone section. Pay attention in class, lectures are recorded, and his textbook is essential. He also holds question and answer sessions before exams.
Dr. Reed is a great Professor. He posts all his lectures online if you miss class but try to go. Grades are 5 tests, lowest one dropped, and an optional extra credit project. if you can take 20-30 pages of detailed notes and memorize them for a test, easy A for a science. If you don't do well with lecture and memorization then maybe don't take
Best. Professor. Ever! Dr. Reed is so passionate about horticulture. You can tell it's his absolute delight to teach, and he's so good at getting his students engaged and excited! He incorporates all teaching styles into each lecture and always has funny and interesting stories and demonstrations. Tests are hard but totally doable! Take this class!
Dr. Reed is an entertaining professor who tries to make his lectures as engaging as possible. Be prepared to memorize a lot of information for the test and also try to understand the concepts in a practical sense as well. The professor does everything he can to help you prepare for exams but you still have to put forth effort to learn.
Great professor. Also had something interesting and unexpected in class. Tried to accommodate everyone and their learning styles. Posts lectures online and doesn't take attendance. Definitely passionate about horticulture. Have to put forth an effort to get the grade you want. Overall a great prof and I would recommend taking his course.
Do not expect this class to be a blow off class. To summarize this class its literally biology for plants so my background in BIO really helped me. Very passionate and best prof ive ever had. I find myself actually enjoying learning and studying rather than dreading it.
Professor Reed is the best professor I've experienced! I usually dread all types of sciences and only took this class to fulfill my science credits, but he made this class a joy. He's really funny and implements different learning styles so you'll definitely find one that works for you. its a much easier science class compared to the others
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! This class is a MUST! Dr. Reed is one of a kind. Extremely sweet and funny. Very interesting class. It may be a bit more difficult than other classes since its only graded by four test grades but not really. Exams are simple and extra credit is available. Lectures are online. Past exams provided. Easy B, mildy hard A
He's a solid choice for a science credit. However, I wouldn't say this class is the easiest. One test is dropped which helps but definitely do not slack on studying!! You'll thank yourself later!
Professor Reed was hands down one of the most committed professors I've seen at Texas A&M. He comes to class with a smile on his face and you can tell that he's passionate about teaching. His tests are a little tricky, but he drops the lowest test grades which is nice. 10/10 professor. Would absolutely take again
Dr. Reed is by far one of the greatest profs I've ever had/could imagine having. He makes his teaching styles fit many different types of learning styles so you may get quite a show on some days. The only thing that gets ya are the tests are WAY harder than you think they'd be given his personality. I think taking him is well worth it though!
LOVE LOVE LOVE David Reed. He is one of my favorite profs! I walk out of every lecture learning something new and being inspired to learn more about horticulture. Tests are easy if you study and pay attention to lecture. Recommend getting the book, but it is also available on the website. Lectures are usually very interactive and engaging.
Dr. Reed is HILARIOUS!! His lectures are always enjoyable even if the content isn't. He provides all the notes you need for class and puts lots of practice materials online. His tests are incredibly easy if you just use the practice exams and online quizzes (not graded), and says some specific info in class. He uploads his lectures online too!
Truly one of the best profs i've ever had at A&M. Amazing lectures attendance is not mandatory but you'll love his lectures so much you won't want to miss a second of it. Textbook used that he wrote but as long as you take notes and focus on the parts he emphasizes when studying for the test then you'll do fine. Great class but make sure you study!
He is an Amazing professor highly recommend! But watch out for the exams you do need minimum a couple full days to study, don't be tricked they can be a little difficult. Not too bad though, definitely in the lower middle as far as difficulty range. He's pretty fantastic.
David Reed is a really good teacher, he gives you tips on what and how to study. He very clearly and engagingly teaches the material. I LOVED his class. The tests are multiple choice but harder than expected, so you will need to put in some good study time. I learned so many interesting things and laughed a lot his class, highly recommend!
NOT AN EASY SCIENCE CREDIT. 4 exams and 1 final (the lowest grade is exempt). Extra credit group project which is a pain in the butt to do but I def recommend it. Reed makes lectures fun and exciting but the tests are very hard and detailed. I learn a lot from this class and generally enjoyed lectures.
The best professor I've ever had. Amazing lectures- he is so passionate about the subject and the learning experience for every student. Take good notes and study the review files and you'll have no problem!
Super fun and entertaining lectures. He's been teaching Hort for 40 years but he's still super pumped about it every single day of class. Be ready to study though.
Dr. Reed is the best professor at Texas A&M. I received a low C on the first exam, but after attending his "How to Study Session" I made a 98 on the all the other exams. This is definitely not an "Easy A" class, but Dr. Reed provides many examples and is very thorough when we lectures. If you are wanting to take Hort 201, do it. You won't regret it
Look up "David Reed Hort 201" on youtube and you'll find his lectures! My hardest class this semester but I loved it... and I'm a business major. The sweetest old man; gave us his home phone # in case we wanted to call him at 2am. Do the quiz files and practice exams and you'll be golden. Don't buy the textbook... it's all on his website with links
Dr. Reed is the best professor I've had so far, he always keeps lectures interesting, he really wants you to learn, and he really loves and respects his students. The only grades in the class are exams + an optional project for extra credit, but the exams are very straightforward and he offers a good amount of study tools.
Dr. Reed is by far the best professor at A&M. As a business major I was forced to take a science class this semester and I am SO glad that it was his class. The class content is super boring but he does CRAZY things in class and you will love his lectures. My quizlet is mayberry20 if you all need help studying!
TAKE THIS CLASS! Dr. Reed is by far my favorite prof at tamu so far. His class isnt mandatory but is honestly fun to attend. The tests arent too bad if you study the practice exams and lecture notes. He gives great understanding of the material as well. Dr. Reed is literally the sweetest man ever, highly recommend this class!!
I never went to class except on test days. If you chose to skip make sure to watch his lectures on YouTube bc you wont pass. He is hilarious and makes horticulture fun!
Fantastic guy, made plants interesting. Uses a lot of props to explain scientific concepts. Wrote the textbook but makes it available for free on his website. Tests are based on the 100 page-ish textbook, about 20 pages per test. Memorize what he emphasizes, ask questions, and be able to explain processes. Memory is huge on all multiple choice test
Professor Reed is the most interesting and insane professors I have ever had! He truly loves what he does and honestly it rubs off on you. Lecture is NEVER boring. I recommend actually going to lecture but he does post them online. Not an easy A, but not impossible. Study the material thoroughly for tests. 10/10 professor. Highly recommend.
Very fun class, AMAZING PROF. He really enjoys teaching. He uploads lectures to his website in case you miss class. No homework or quizzes, only tests. He does have review sessions. This class is NOT an "easy A" but also not impossible. Just show up to class and take notes. He offers extra credit. Really learned so much in this class and love him.
There are only tests, but Dr. Reed is hilarious. He makes class so interesting and teaches in multiple different ways so that different learning styles are shown. He cares about you and wants you to learn, not meet the status quo. Take him if you can!!!!! The class content is a lot, but so worth it. PS. DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT, it is worth it.
Dr. Reed was a great guy. Loved him. However, I took this class as a business major hoping to get an easy A. This was far from that. I would recommend the class if you are interested in plant biology, or are a genius. If not, then avoid the class, but try to get Dr. Reed for an easier class if possible.
Not an easy A class, but honestly I do not regret taking it because prof is awesome. Textbook is online and free, I didn't attend ANY classes and still made an A. Study the textbook and quiz files like crazy and you're golden. Prepare for tests because that is 100% of your grade.
Dr. Reed is a fun guy to take class with if you like plants. If you do not like plants it will be hard for you to study or attend lecture. Also his expectations are placed highly on his students and he expects you to love plants. Dont take this class if you think it will be an easy A it will not. Only 5 tests in the class and he takes the best 4.
Dr. Reed was a great teacher as far as knowing his stuff, though the one time I was able to speak to him in person he was EXTREMELY rude and belittling to me. The class was definitely not easy, but doable. The only reason I would not take this class again is because of the unpleasant encounter I had with him, which will always stick with me.
Dr. Reed was a fantastic professor and I always enjoyed going to class. The class was made up of five exams and extra credit assignments, which really helped my grade in the end. This class was not easy, however I would 1000% take it again since it was so enjoyable. Reed hates academic dishonesty, so don't even think about doing it.
This is the only prof that I've had that's actually prepared me for exams. Attendance isn't mandatory but I would definitely attend lectures at least most of the time.
Dr. Reed is the best professor at A&M, easily!. If you are interested in horticulture, you will love this class, if not, it could be very boring. Your entire grade is based on four exams and final, lowest is dropped. Tests aren't easy, but you can make a great grade easily with just studying all the terms in the book and doing the quiz files.
Dr. Reed is definitely a great prof and he's super funny, but the amount of studying I had to do.. Don't take this class if you're trying to get an easy A because there is nothing easy about having to memorize at least 20 pages per exam. The class consists of 4 exams, extra credit is offered, and the final. Class was fun, but quite a bit of work.
Dr. Reed is one of the craziest professors I've ever had. Attending his lectures isn't mandatory, but he tells you many example questions that are going to be on the exams. Do the extra credit and go to his q&a sessions because exams are the only things he grades!!! Overall, really fun and amazing class.
I wanted to like this prof... I was pretty excited to take a horticulture class & enjoyed the first few lectures. I guess people like him for his lectures, but outside of class? SO rude. I was really caught off guard with his attitude. I could NOT make higher than a 72 in this class. You may need a photographic memory to get an A...
Wish he instructed more courses I could take. Absolutely loved HORT 201.
Dr. Reed is absolutely fantastic. If you go to class and study before you test, youre bound to do well in the class. No busy work or assignments of the sort, just major tests. He offers an extra credit project that helps your grade significantly.
At first, the lectures are interesting and fun to go to. However, he states in class that it's almost impossible to get an A in the class. Outside of class, he's extremely rude. You have 5 exams that make up your grade, he drops the lowest. Gives little extra credit. Exams are brutal. Gives trick questions and is proud of it. 10/10 don't recommend.
Professor Reed is super passionate about Horticulture and is always happy to be in class. However, this is not an easy A. Your final grade is composed of 4 exam grades and extra credit projects if you choose to do them (but they can only raise your grade by 3 points). If you study super hard you might make an A, but in general people make B or C.
Dr. Reed is extremely rude and grades in the most nit picky way for projects. Avoid his class at all costs.
Dr. Reed is an ok professor at best. Very lecture-heavy and he treats most classes like they are for HORT majors only. He expects you to have intense knowledge of HORT for class. The only grades in this course are the 4 exams and 3 extra credits that he doesn't even give credit for most of the time. 1/10 I do not recommend this class for anyone.
For the most part I thought Dr. Reed kept the class pretty interesting. Not a blowoff course, and I would for sure set time aside for studying since there is quite a lot of material, and only grades taken are exams. Exams were pretty straight forward. He drops the lowest exam grade and gives super easy extra credit at end of semester...
If you are looking for an easy science credit, I do not recommend this class. This class requires so much time for studying. He is a great professor, but not worth the difficulty if you are not a horticulture major. I will say, Dr. Reed is so funny and tries to make his lectures interesting. He gives good reviews for his tests and practice exams!
Dr. Reed is incredibly entertaining as a professor. His content is super easy to access online. Beware: his textbook is very bare and skeletal. You WILL need to attend/watch the lectures to understand what the textbook is saying because it is very vague. When I had him in 2021, his only grades were 5 total exams (lowest dropped). His exams are hard
Lectures and notes are vital for this class. get the textbook and take the time to listen and understand the concepts in class. Memorization-heavy tests so don't try to cram. use the quiz files to study
I took this class as an incoming freshman. If you are a freshman, do not take this class for your science credit! There are much easier classes out there! Be sure to really study very hard if you want a good grade in this class! Reed is a good prof but you don't learn, only regurgitate obscene amounts of information.
Class attendance wasn't mandatory but if you attended class and studied for the exams using the textbook then the exams were really easy. He provides practice exams that give a very good idea of what grade you will get on the actual exam. Drops one exam and has easy extra credit options that are fun too. Lectures were engaging.
Make sure he teaches you how to grow hemlock so you have an easy alternative to ever having to speak to him. Easily the most unpleasant old man I have ever met.
I have heard horror stories about Reed and the way he treats his students. There is no room for opportunity for points so be prepared for your grade to be determined by the result of your exams. If you don't do well on exams DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This is the first class I have ever failed within my 3 years at a university.
Dr. Reed is a very interesting guy and has very engaging lectures. Your grade in the class is solely based off of exams with one extra credit opportunity and one individual assignment that have little weight, so scoring well on the exams is crucial. His exams are difficult, but if you pay attention and study well you can easily do well.
Very engaging and fun classes, but if you miss them you cannot get a good grade. The entire grade is based off of 5 exams (1 dropped) with an optional 3-point extra credit that is very time consuming. Tests are hard and require a lot of memorization. The textbook is free online.
Dr. Reed was by far the best professor I have had at A&M after 3 years here. In lectures, he is engaging, uses great visual examples, and creates an exciting and entertaining learning environment. If you don't have an interest in plants, don't take the class as an easy science credit. The tests require a good amount of studying but aren't too hard!
if you are not a horticulture major, do not take this class. tests are way too hard, way too time consuming to study when this is just supposed to be a science credit for me. i have had straight A's my whole life and this was my first C. wouldn't round my 79.4 to a B. submitted an extra credit assignment and 5:01 and he wouldn't accept it. do not
Reed is very respected and a great lecturer. The only thing I hava against him is every time i talk to him in person, or over email , he is very rude and short with me. He expects you to remember everything. Other than that, easy class and very easy to learn cause he's crazy. does not know how to work 80% of technology.
He is unreasonably rude. like very rude. He is old and always recites that boomer bs and uses it as an excuse to not upload things and use canvas properly. In my opinion he isn't that great of a professor nor is a of help to his students. If you don't need this class, do not take it.
There are only four tests, each test is basically word for word from the practice exam. I only studied the practice exams and never went to class and always made 90s on tests. The times I did go to class, the professor was not boring. He is sort of hard to hear sometimes. There is a textbook, but it is free online through his website.
Dr. Reed is a great professor who is very passionate about the material he teaches. His class is based on four exams, and he offers extra credit opportunities. The tests are hard to make an A on and requires a lot of studying and memorization.
Dr. Reed is SO MUCH FUN! While he may seem like a little much, I love to be around him. He loves to crack jokes, explain concepts, and demonstrate different things! The class is composed of four tests, an optional extra credit project, and an optional final. WARNING! If you do not know how to study, you better figure it out! Tests are kinda hard!
Your entire grade is based on only four tests and three extra credit projects. Studying for every exam took almost all of my time just for me to end up getting a B on every single one. Extremely lecture-heavy, so paying attention matters a lot in order to do at least decently on the exams.
He is a great guy who really cares about his students! I made the mistake of not studying for the first two exams, which killed my grade since the only assignments are four tests and a final. You can earn up to 12 points of extra credit by completing group assignments, which are pretty easy. If you study and go to lecture, you will be fine.
I took his class 3 years ago. I remember most every lecture, the tests and how fun his class was. Yes there are only 4 exams and extra credit. But make a quizlet, study the notes he releases the day before the test and you can absolutely get an A! Best professor at Texas A&M.
Amazing professor! His lectures were very enjoyable and you can tell he loves what he does. There are no homework assignments but beware of the exams! This is definitely not a blow off class and the exams are very terms heavy, but if you review a bit after each lecture you should be fine. He also gives the opportunity of 12 extra credit points.
D. Reed has by far been the least enjoyable unsupportive professor I have had ever. He is rude to students when they go to him for help and has little ability to communicate effectively when reached out to. He has been teaching here forever and it is evident he has lost his patience for students. I would advise against this class unless necessary.
Easy but not a blow off. I stopped going to class b/c Reed is an egotistical narcissist and possibly one of the least professional profs I've ever had. I just personally don't have a clue why anyone likes the dude. Tests are straight memorization, so study hard 2-3 days before. Easy to fail but easy to pass if you study (39% F's on 1st exam).
Attendance isn't required but he gives test questions in class. He will post his book online, if you don't want to buy it. Use the practice tests to study but his test questions are worded differently so know the information well. Use the optional group projects to boost your grade, they are an easy way to go up a whole letter grade.
This teacher taught well as far as teaching styles, but the lecture could be broken down to 50% rambling 25% teaching 15% helpful examples 5% jokes 5% restarting the zoom (recording, whiteboard, etc.)
If you are not a horticulture major do not take this class. I took this class as an easy science elective and it was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. An intro level class should not require this much studying. He says things in class that aren't included in any other materials that will be on the exam. I ended up Q-dropping. Do NOT take!
Tests are awful! Failed almost all of them bc he asks for very specific info that's hard to memorize. Took this class hoping it would be easy bc of my other classes, but no. Group projects seemed easy, but his descriptions were pretty vague and then had the audacity to give us a 0 for it (final class grade: prob a D)
Professor Reed is a great teacher. He is very engaging, especially if you go to class in person. He makes it clear that those who come to class will do better, this is true. Practice quizzes and tests will allow you to succeed on exams. The grade you get is what amount of effort you put in.
Reeds lectures were amazing but his test were very difficult. He gives extra credit but he finds every excuse to not take your work for it on the first CCA. I went to all of his lectures and took notes along with studying but his exams were v hard. You have 4 (25% each) exams and a final that make up your grade and he drops your lowest exam score.
Reeds lectures are very engaging and he made it fun to come to class and pay attention. As long as you show up to class and take good notes his exams are doable. If you're looking for a blow-off class I would not recommend taking this one. You definitely have to put in the work for a good grade, but he is still one of my favorite professors!
I cant say enough good things about Dr Reed. He has been my favorite teacher ever. He is the cutest and sweetest old man you will ever meet. He is so out-of-pocket funny that lectures are entertaining. The tests are hard and you have to come to class and study to get a good grade. your grade is 5 tests but drops your lowest one.
Funniest guy ever!!!! He is so caring and funny and really cares about what he teaches. Going to class and taking notes is CRUCIAL. He gives a few hints for exams during lectures which is helpful. If you ever need to get ahold of him, you have to call, he absolutely does not do emails or text messages. There is an optional group project for EC too.
He is funny but is AWFUL!! Do not take this class unless you LOVE hort. His tests are super hard and have trick questions. If you end up in his class DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!!
Reed's class is no easy A, but his humor makes the lectures engaging. Attend diligently, take detailed notes, and utilize resources like unstuckstudy - you'll have a fighting chance at a good grade.
