Crazy guy that yells a lot. Very very unorganized, didn't follow the syllabus at all. Super boring lectures, but he's fun to laugh at. Goofy guy, "cool" hats.
He can be goofy at times, but he is a good teacher. He has a habit of speaking very loudly at times for no good reason. It is entertaining to watch him speak.
He's the reason I changed my major from CJ to government. He is a great lecturer.
The first day of class he tried to pretend that his class is impossible and that he is super evil, but the next day at class he apologized and claimed that he tries to scare everyone away on the first day. Tests are hard, but not impossible, he does yell a lot, but it keeps you awake :)
explains things very fast
this was by far the worst professor that i have ever had. teachers should make the class interesting, not boring. he was not approachable for questions, and did not follow the study guides he made for the tests. the tests were horrible and extremely hard. i was looking forward to taking this class, but now i wish that i had not taken it with him!!!
Professor Reese is a fair teacher. Your grade reflects what YOU put into the class. I tried this class and dropped the first time. The second time I did just fine because I realized that I actually needed to work. It's a tough class, but if you try you will learn a lot of useful info. and you will be just fine. Thank you Professor Reese!
Ok, all I can say is his bark is worse then his bite. It is a hard class and yes you do have to do your work. He is very organized in his lecture. If you follow his study guide and study you will do well. The hardest part was his project. I know he looks at these, the chili is for you Pro Reese LOL. Remember you can show your nice side too.
long lectures- lots of group dicussion, LOTS of reading.
Also one of the worst profs Ive ever had, class was borring, 4 or 5 6-9pg "take home" essays as part of your tests. The essays also we not linked questions, more like 6 dif Qs squashed together that you had to invent trasitions for. Take intro to ir at arc if you can, avoid this class at all costs!
UGH worst teacher ever. bumbling idiot.
He comes across as somewhat arrogant, but he's a good guy, and makes it very clear what is expected to get an A, which if you are moderately intelligent isnt all too difficult.

NOT a closed-lipped class. Notes R essential, reading 2 (hit the pts. he repeats & bam! open-note Quiz aced). Lazy students don't earn A's. He: enables students 2 positively interact w/daily current event discussions & class projects. Correlates current events 2 lectures. A professor that doesn’t profess to hear his voice, he engages 2 hear yours.
Reese tries to engage the students. He can sometimes get off track but he is a great guy to learn from. Definitely not an easy class.
Reese is probably the most misunderstood professor on campus. A lot of people complain about how tough he is, but as long as you show up for class and take excellent notes you'll be fine. He also gives essay questions out before the exam. Reese is great on his office hours, often staying longer than scheduled. He is tough, but very fair.
he is an awesome down to earth guy! very funny =) Class isn't easy, but he makes it worth going!
i love this guy great teacher his class is hard due to the class not him sure if u took another class with him really easy plus very help full and funny
Mr. Reese is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is funny, interesting and extremely knowlegeable. If you hate politcs you may not like him, but I loved his class
Engaging teacher; extremely smart - maybe brilliant; not an easy class but a fair grader and he really inspires you to learn; appears to give student's good grades if they put in the effort even if their test scores are not the most sterling...I liked him.
Very smart man when it comes to his politics. Class can be a little intimidation. He is very understandable and is willing to personally explain anything that is confusing in his class. Yes, his tests are pretty hard but if you try hard in the class, your grade will surprise you at the end! I thought i was barely going to pass, and i recieved a B!!!
Take this class! Great teacher and very passionate about the subject. He was so passionate about the subject that it made me want to come to class and learn more about Government. Reading the book and taking good notes is key to passing the tests. Attendance is highly recommended.
He's the best pols prof ever. I highly recommend him! His lectures are very engaging and informative. I love this class! The key is to attend every class & take really good notes on his lectures. He inspires his students to learn & makes sure to give them all the info they need to pass. He truly cares about the success of his students.
very easy, have one current event ready for a short disscussion in the begining of class if he calls on you, its one person a day (I never got called on for this). And one project that was rather simple because I thought I did it all wrong, I worried about it, I had know idea what to do, but it all worked out.(or I was just lucky)
Funny, SUPER smart, likes to talk about the zombie apocalypse. I couldn't concentrate in his class because he's so effing hot !
He wants all to fear him, and you should, as he enjoys giving bad grades on a whim. He also boosts up test scores for people he likes. You need a 92% for an A, and if you smoke you will do poorly because he publicly detests it. He says he was a spy, but wont comment further. In general he knows he is creepy and enjoys it.
Mr. Reese is amazing! He's very approachable if you are having trouble in his class. He has old school lectures on whiteboard, But they're easy to follow along with and study to. There are 3 tests, a project, and about 5 open note quizzes that make up your grade. The project turns out to be easy, so don't stress. Definitely take Mr. Reese!
Reese is a different kind of breed. But he is really cool and makes Gov't really fun. I am so far really enjoying his class. So far just take good notes and keep up on reading and I think everything will go good. He is super approachable and just wants his students to learn. He is not like most teachers, he wants you to succeed
he is diffrent!
Prof. Reese rocks! I would highly recommend his class. He really wants you to learn, explains things well and answers questions. Respects whatever your opinion is and gives fair treatment to everyone. Probably the best teacher I have had so far at FLC.
Pro. Reese is a really great teacher. He really wants his student to learn. He is not that easy, but if I can pass his class anyone can, and I mean that. There are 3 test, 5 open note quizes, and 1 project. The project is not that hard, it is spread out through the whole semester, so you have a lot of time, but don't leave it till the last min.
Seriously...what an amazing teacher. He is a genius. Puts POLS into everyday terms. Open note quizzes. Highly Highly recommended. I hated Political science now i find it really interesting.
The man has a jerky & pretentious attitude. He's absolutely anal about attendance. I don't generally use this word, but I HATED his class! I'm pretty creepied out that this man is getting rated "hot."
Very good class and teacher. Keeps things middle of the road most of the time, doesn't make one side or the other look good all the time or bad all the time. Prof. Reese is very funny and likes to walk around while he's talking, making the class very interesting. You won't fall asleep!
i hated this class....a lot. do yourself a favor and skip taking this one. or at least take it with a different professor. the textbook is ridiculously slanted and that's pretty annoying. he stutters a lot and his lectures will put you asleep....and since i know he reads these , i'd like to put it out there that i'm still not proud to be american
Wow, I have some haters below me! I think that Professor Reese is a WONDERFUL TEACHER! He is the most caring professor I have ever met! He wants his students to succeed in life! He has a unique, quirky personality (which is fun) and will even help you on the test if you ask! You will get a good grade if you put in the time and effort.
Oops! Somehow my ratings got messed up in my previous message below. I give professor Reese two thumbs up and a smiley face =)
Always give teachers benefit of the doubt on these things. One of the best professors Ive had and I had him for an 8 am summer class. He has a great interest in his students and a passion for poli sci. clearly his talents would be more appreciated at the four year level. If a quarter of teachers @ my university were more like him itd be MUCH better
He is not the greatest or most interesting teacher but I ended with a C that filled the requirements without having to do much work. I didn't like not really knowing what my grade was throughout the semester. However, I did learn a lot from his class. I must warn you, he is a little biased although he does a good job not showing it sometimes.
Reese is great! Class isn't exactly easy, but it is incredibly fair and what a college student should expect from a college-level class. He sticks to the syllabus like a fly on do-do. He also includes exhaustive study guides in the syllabus so what you get in the class is really up to you. Classrom discussions are fun and open which is another plus
If you want to have any idea about what your grade is, when things are actually due and what, exactly they are supposed to cover or be about, don't take this class. Prof. won't give you a grade when asked, can't lecture for beans and his tests really have nothing to do with his lectures or the assigned reading. Worst professor I've had yet.
probably the best teacher at FLC. enough said. very boring class though unless you are emersed in politics.
I had him a few semesters ago for PoliSci and before him had only a minimal interest in Government, he singlehandedly changed that. Great professor, very passionate and fun to talk to.. just don't eat in class :3 And take good notes! He does open-note quizzes.
Reese is a very laid back teacher with an interesting personality. If you enjoy politics you will likely enjoy this class. If you hate it like me, you'll find it manageable with Reese helpful enough to get you through.
Nice guy, knows the subject well, but not the best teacher. Teaches of of power point and lectures, often gets caught up in the moment and yells. Wants you to know the subject and what's going on in the world. Reading the book is advised for passing tests. Often late in grading and handing back said tests. Listen, take notes, and read!!!
Reese is a great teacher, passionate and experienced in the field of political science. He is NOT an easy A, so if you're looking to fulfill requirements only- he may not be for you- he might teach you a thing or 2 though. For politics/government majors, he's been there and done that so he's the professor for you. Taking him again for Fall 2010.
He was awesome for 301, 302 not so much. Lectured completely off the top of his head - hard to take notes. Tests did not seem to be based on lectures or reading, in fact I stopped reading the book because it never once helped me answer a test question. I ended up asking him like 10 questions on every test, which he answered, nice guy! Weird class..
It was hard to take notes but somehow he got his points across. He makes himself available to students who have questions. He seems very interested in his students "getting it" rather than trying to be too tough. I recommend him for anyone who wants to major in Political Science. The final paper was very interesting and fun.
Reese was incredibly unorganized throughout the year. He only returned about 1/4 of the papers we gave him, and most of them needed to be returned to work on another assignment. He would put things on last final that we hadn't even talked about. He also changes due dates way too much, so we were never really sure when things were due.
He is definetly into politics and gets way carried away during class. unlike others i found note taking very easy. You will most certinly learn alot about politics and the structure of american govt. I really liked the class
I absolutely hate politics but prof Reese taught the class in a way that caught my attention. Easy to take notes, but study hard for the tests if you want an A! Some of the questions were very confusing but overall I would recommend him! Oh and he says "um" and "uh" A LOT so if that drives you crazy than I wouldn't take his class =)
He is very hard and mumbles all the time so its vey hard to keep up with him. Even though he is nice, his class is very scattered and not fun. goodluck! if you want an easy F take his class!!!!
Reese is hands down the best teacher at Folsom Lake. If you are interested in Poli Sci take this class. He is the most intelligent professor I have ever had he knows everything and anything about the topic. So friendly, easy to approach and will help you until hes answered your question fully.
Prof Reese was one of my very favorite profs at FLC. He is passionate about his subject and does a good job of making it interesting. He does challenge students to think and to care though which can be bad I guess if you don't want to work very hard.
Reese is one of my favorite teachers at FLC. He made the subject come to life! Very helpful and clear with what is expected. Always do all of the work and study for tests; then you will succeed.I took this over summer school and enjoyed going to his class at 8:00am! I completely recommend taking him for Political Science! Very fair and unbiased!
David Reese is a great teacher! He really opens your eyes to the world and makes you want to be a better American citizen. He makes class interesting and his lectures are really great!
The last review, clearly, just had some beef with Prof. Reese because he's a liberal. This students comments just show how stupid he is and how he didn't apply himself AT all in the class. I LOVED this class! The lectures were loud, clear, and animated. He inspires you to be an informed, proud American. Don't be a dummy, take this class!
Reese was a great professor. He teaches a very sound 'Introduction to American Government' class. All of his lectures are animated and crystal-clear. His tests are hard, as they are based more on the readings than on lectures, but you can still get 'A's on them. Be warned, attendance is mandatory!
Professor Reese is an excellent teacher. He obviously adores his boys and family, which is very endearing. He has a fascinating personality, quirky and strange, but it keeps you interested and learning. A very nice man who cares about his students. Recommend his class.
The best word to describe Reese is zany. The lectures are entertaining and you will learn so much about the political process its crazy. One of the best and most passionate teachers at Folsom Lake College by far. An eye-opening class!
Based on the number of times Reese was absent to our class, if he was a student he would have been dropped. Which theoretically is awesome, but we only covered in class 1/3rd of the material on the final. He doesn't know how to speak english, or understand basic grammar. I enjoy politics, but could not stand his class.
well.. every teacher has their own teaching style. reese's is to shout. since his lectures are not very interesting he figures if he shouts them, you will have to listen. he is a nice guy if you talk to him and helpful during his exams, but a little "out-there" and flaked on class quite a bit. postponed a lot of due-dates. wasnt horrible, though.
I chose this class with Reese because of his good ratings. But this class frustrated me more than anything else. He constantly changed due dates, handed back tests EXTREMELY late making it hard to know what grade you had during the semester, and didnt grade high-quality papers differently from poorly written ones while asking a lot of work from you
I took professor Reese for 310 and went back again for 301. Such a passionate teacher and by far best instructor I had at Folsom. I am a polsci major so obviously his class was my cup-o-tea, but seriously, pay attention and take notes and read your weekly chapters and you will do fine in this class. Attendance is vital, as is listening to lecture!
Listen to lectures and study the essay questions and tests will be an easy A or B. Lets you use 3x5 card. Drops one quiz. Quizzes are open note and very easy. Project is in 5 parts and easy. Graded pass/fail, and you can redo them.-2 points if youre late, -5 if youre absent (unexcused). A lot easier than I expected. Got an A. Makes it easy to pass.
Great professor!...really makes you think. But it's no cake-walk of a class. At the end its well worth it, best prof. I've had yet!
Learned a ton, but nearly impossible to do well on the tests. Studying for the test questions is rediculous. ?'s way to fine detailed for a intro to political science class. Didnt even ask questions on 3/4 of the chapters. Expects you to know way to much. Good luck trying to study for the tests. For what he expects you to know class should b 5units
He's not an easy grader, but he's a great teacher. However, you MUST show up to every lecture or you will miss out on something important. The tests are fine, not too easy, not too hard, just study the questions at the end of each chapter and prepare for the essay questions and you'll do fine. He's very passionate about politics and loves his job.
HE WAS FREAKING AWESOME. At first I couldn't understand anything he said, but after my mind adjusted to his word usage everything started to make sense. Super helpful and not condescending at all like some professors at the 4 yr university i am attending. Super intelligent guy and funny. Would take his class all over again just for kicks.
He seems intimadating at first but really if you take notes and actually listen you understand everything he's talking about even if you have no interest. I LOVED his class. Now i am thinking of taking another class like this. He is extremely nice and fair, especially on the quizes!
Prof. Reese is an excellent educator, he teaches from the perspective of what successful students need to have down to make it through college. Love politics now. However, dont miss class and when in class stay on top of the lecture with thorough notes.
The teacher is nice but its definitely not an easy class, has you write a paper that is very difficult to find enough information on in order for it to be 5-8 pages long, terrible at grading assignments so you never really know your grade, also it was a pretty boring class.
Professor Reese is a great professor! He has such an interesting sense of humor that it makes class something to look forward to. He helps a ton if you have questions and will make sure ALL his students understand. He is really passionate about what he teaches and you can see it in his lecutres. That's what makes him such a wonderful professor.
Professor Reese's POLS 301 course is work, but he makes it very do-able. His lectures are full of substance and good delivery, keeping the student interested. Show up to class, learn the material, and you'll do fine... and he got me to register to vote.
Professor Reese is dedicated to helping students beyond his class. Yes, it is a hard class because of all the information & the topic but if you show up, take very good notes & read then you can do well. He is always available to help you succeed & reminds you to stop by his office if you need help. Tough class but he provides the tools you need.
Reese is totally invested in his subject and goes above and beyond to educate his students. He's funny, insightful, and yes, the tests are hard, but that's the tradeoff for not having any HW. Also, you need to have a vocabulary higher than that of a third grader, which is where many college students are at. Reese keeps it interesting for sure.
Loved him!!! He was so passionate when he taught and his lectures were never boring, he was constantly trying to make it fun and entertaining. Open note quizzes and three chapter tests- if you study for them you'll do fine. Doesn't give homework, just wants you to be prepared for the exams- so STUDY!!. highly recommend!
Not at all easy. Goes off on tangents that almost never have anything to do with the class. Treats the class as if it is a master class. Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Deliciously nerdy. In his classroom you'll find a teacher that is passionate about what he does, and genuinely interested in informing and assisting students. He talks very tough about his class and his tests, but he is not as tough when it comes to grading. Would recommend, but recommend you take it with friends to make it easier.
DONT TAKE HIM. HE NEVER PASSES BACK PAPERS SO YOU NEVER KNOW YOUR GRADE. HE TAKES FOR EVER TO GRADE TESTS AND YOU NEVER SEE YOUR RESULTS. HE KNOWS A LOT BOUT THE SUBJECT BUT DOES NOT TEACH IT WELL. HE IS VERY UNORGANIZED AND LOSES YOUR PAPERS EASY OR DOESN'T RECALL YOU TURNING IT IN. OVERALL I FELT LIKE I WASTED MY SEMESTER TAKING HIS CLASS.
Honestly, Reese is not a very difficult professor and was actually my favorite at FLC. Show up, take notes, and give a little effort in studying and you have an A. Lets you use a note card on all 3 exams and his paper is broken up very nicely to insure an A. No homework, very minimal reading, and lectures are interesting and very easy to listen to
Good teacher. Very passionate and animated. He makes himself very clear about his subjects without letting himself be partisan. He's very willing to help IF you seek it out. He's not the easiest teacher, but he's fair and if you pay attention in class and do a little studying, it's easy to pass.
Great lecturer, one of the best professors i've ever had. I don't understand why people think he is so difficult. If you show up to class, take notes, and make somewhat of an effort to study for exams, you are guaranteed an A or B. Assigns a paper that he gives you 100% on just as long as you follow the prompt correctly! Easy..overall, great class!
Great class. All you need to do is listen and pay attention. No text book, just two books to read in class. He prints all the handouts you need. He is also very easy to get help from. He wants you to succeed.
If you're looking for an easy A, do not take this class. On the other hand, if you work hard and stick with the material, you can get an A. Sometimes he is hard to understand, but he keeps his lectures interesting by random rants, politcally based or otherwise. final essay is hard dont wait until last week to do it, if you do you'll be screwedddddd
He teaches all by lecture. I worked very hard on the final essay, which he never read. He ended up having us all peer review each others papers. So I spent so much time, and it was an all or nothing grade. If you miss class, you do miss a lot. He is slow to respond to emails. I do not think many people in class got a A. Take good notes!
The reason I did terrible in this course was because I enrolled in pol301, history 312 and english 300 and other classes which equals lots of reading and writing. I suggest taking low units or make an easy semester. the class was a bit slow and I badly needed a note taker from dsps. The study guide should be worth some points.
Awesome teacher! I didn't like politics before his class and exepcted it to be boring and hard. He makes the lectures very very fun and really I even considered majoring in POLS by the end of semester. The tests are a bit hard but take good notes, read the book (at least look through it). Also ask questions. Seriously he helps on the tests!
Reese knows his subjects extremely well. However, he is very disorganized and takes forever with his grading. Also, his infrequent testing makes it hard to get an A unless you like big tests with no study guide provided. I am in my second semester with him in POLS302 and have resolved never to take him again.
He was a little unorganized, new the material very well, he was slow getting the essays back but had a family problem in the middle of the semester which is understandable after telling the class the problem ,doesnt like fail people and was very helpful if you see him during office hours and doesnt grade bad you bad if he doesnt agree with opinion
Really good teacher, he honestly cares about his students and whether they succeed. Takes a while to get essays/tests and such back. READ YOUR SYLLABUS! A ton of information is on there. He doesn't always take roll but missing one class means you're missing alot. With the final project if he finds one thing wrong in any part he will give half credit
I was a bit scared taking this class, because I was taking Engwr300 Hist312, but I do not regret. I managed to pass all classes while still keeping my GPA up. its a TOUGH class, but he is really a great teacher really wants his students to succeed exams were hard but manageable, just do what is expected then you have no problem passing
Reese is an awesome teacher! He is very helpful and clear about what needs to be done. He is understanding and wants his students to do well. I took his class over summer and although it was fast paced I learned alot! Highly recommend him.
He is my favorite teacher at FLC. He actually wants you to succeed in his class and if you go to him during office hours, he will really help you with whatever you need. To get a good grade, you need to take notes, attend class and actually study. Grade is based on 3 quizzes, 3 tests (with essays), and a project. You need the textbook for studying.
He doesn't give good (if any) feedback, he won't grade and give back work for months so it's impossible to gauge how you're doing in class and what you're getting wrong. He lectures with a stutter/drone and misses classes. Very opinionated and your grade will suffer if you don't agree. I'm an A student but got a B and worked my ass off for it.
At first I thought his class was WAY too hard, but honestly all you need to do is go up and speak to him personally and tell him what you're having trouble with. He is a HUGE help and is completely for student success if you ask for his help! His tests are very hard but if you ask him a question he will help you understand it and answer correctly!
This professor is very passionate about what he teaches. The class is difficult, but you definitely learn a lot. You have to take lots of notes and study. The exams rely mostly on lectures. If you put effort into this class, you will do well. And if you introduce yourself to Professor Reese, he will remember you semesters later. Great professor!
I learned so much about politics. He is a great teacher and loves to help his students in any way he can. No homework. One big project, three open note quizzes, and a big EASY project. His exams are challenging but just show up, take good notes, and listen. He acts tough in the beginning but stick it out, he's cool, and he wants you to succeed.
GREAT PROFESSOR! Very clear and understanding. If you have a question on anything always ask. He may act strict in the beginning but he is just trying to weed out the slackers. Knows a lot about the subject and is credible. He is extremeley respectful to both sides. I highly recommend him! Always attending class is the key to a good grade.
Great instructor. He is heavy on the lecture and notes, but he is good at what he does and keeps it interesting and keeps you engaged. I took the 3/hr 7-10pm class, after a full day at work, and still always looked forward to his class. Made me interested in politics, when before could care less.
Very, very, very intelligent and passionate man. One of the oddest people ive met, and yet one of the most unique and interesting. He is extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable about his subject. Lectures are long but never a bore. Prepare to read a lot and take a lot of notes. Exams are tough but if you study hard and smart you will do well.
I have a difficult time respecting a professor that is unable to stick to his own deadlines, grade within a reasonable time frame, efficiently stay on topic during lecture and provide meaningful feedback to students. As a serious student headed to a top-tier university, professionalism is very important to me. This professor severely lacks thereof.
Interesting lectures, tests cover lectures& book. Tests are multiple choice & essay, but we never recvd essays back or the grades for them, which makes it difficult to improve on the next test. If you didn't go to office hours you had no way of knowing your grade at all before the final, and even then you recvd no feedback. Frustrating.
I have mixed feelings about this prof.. On the one hand, he was interesting, passionate, and sincerely kind. But he was very disorganized. Our syllabus was from on old American history class and contained a lot of wrong information. Check with him to make sure the assignments in the syllabus will be used or you'll waste a lot of time like I did.
He definitely makes you work hard for your grade, but he genuinely wants you to succeed. I would utilize his office hours. They are really helpful. Such a great class if you're willing to work for it.
Prof Reese is arrogant which can be irritating in a teacher. He missed three or four classes when I took him - which I wouldn't have minded except they were on test days, and I kind of wanted to get them over with. Also, don't expect to get many grades back. I never the grades from my essays on the tests - even from the beginning of the semester
Professor Reese is an interesting man. Lectures are long and the content isn't very interesting, but Reese does his best to keep it from being too dry. The tests are tough and the project is annoying, but there is no homework.
Professor Reese is very passionate about political science. He may seem strict or mean in the classroom, but outside of class he is eager to help if you ask for it. I don't recommend skipping his class because he fills each day with ALOT of information and lots of possible test questions (which aren't all found on the class notes). Great class!
Reese was very knowledgable in political science and he makes the class interesting. Some of my classmates thought that the powerpoint notes were boring and long (which they are long) but I think Reese did a good job clarifying and elaborating on each topic. He gives you the tools to succeed, you just need to take initiative. Would take again.
Plain and simple, you're going to have to work for it. The amount of effort invested in this class is clearly reflected in your grade.
Prof. Reese is awesome. He is inspirational and an overall great guy. I didn't feel that I could ever truly prepare for the test, but the life skills that I pulled from his lectures are far more important to me than the grade on a test. I'm happy to add him to my favorite professors at FLC.
Unhelpful when it comes to one on one connection. Does not grade work on time. Tests are all over the place from following his twitter feed to his off topic lectures. Class is behind schedule due to his lack of staying on topic.
I've never been mandated to follow a teacher on twitter, or tested on what the tweets said. Tests are nearly impossible to ace (tests include random content from BOTH books+lengthy lecture notes+movie notes+his tweets+ current eventsendless studying) Does not stay on topic. Lectures from start to finish. LONG notes almost every day.
Reese is eccentric and passionate about his students understanding politics. Classes are mostly long lectures which he tries to make engaging and always answers questions to his best ability. However, he doesn't grade in a timely manner AT ALL so it's a little frustrating not knowing where you stand before finals, especially b/c his exams are hard
First day of class he is going to be really loud and rough. DON'T LET HIM SHAKE YOU!!! He's just trying to weed out the week ones who are going to quit half way through anyway. Stick with him, he really does want you to succeed and he mellows out by the second meeting. Take notes on what he SAYS. P.S. DO NOT CHEW GUM!!
Ridiculous amounts of work, all over the place. Super socially awkward. Abuses his power as a teacher to force you to follow him on twitter so he can feel like he has more friends than he does.
I regret taking this class, stupid amounts of reading for an intro political science class. He forces you to follow him on twitter which is absolutely not OK and frankly very weird. Hard Grader, and pretty mean.
You have to study everything without knowing generaly what to study for. Professor Reese loves talking about his opinions, and he's extreamly rude when you try to join in his current event confersations. If you decide to ignore Rate My Professor: don't talk, study every-thing, and be a fantastic test taker.
I never knew a professor that would force their students to follow them on Twitter, and get graded on it. Professor Reese is flat-out rediculous with his expectations on his students for only an Into class. He's rude to his students, insults them, and treats them like lab rats. He needs an attidute agustment with students who are actually trying.
I thought Prof Reese was an awesome teacher! He is very educated on the topic which makes it a lot more interesting to listen to during his lecture. He plays a lot of films through out the class which are really important for his tests. He uses current events consistently in class which really helps relate topics we learn to real life scenarios!
Reese is a great PERSON, alright as a professor. Most of the time he doesn't finish out his lectures because he talks about life, which I did enjoy and was inspired by but it didn't help when it came to the tests. The lectures were reflected more in the 3 quizzes. The tests were based off the reading. I read them and still didn't get a good grade.
Reese is a respectable professor, but I ended up dropping. I'm a good student, but the work load was just impossible. Twitter really? I don't have time to keep up with my own social media, let alone someone else's who posts all day. There were 3 times where I went to his office hrs for help and he wasn't there, and ever replied to my emailsor calls
While the lectures were really interesting and enjoyable and the professor clearly cares about his students and the subject, I haven't received ANY of my 3 exams back, or their grades! It is kinda unbelievable and never happened to me, but yeah, I have no idea how I did in the class or what my final grade will be based on.
Great teacher, really cares about the subject. Classes are super informative and sometimes overwhelming. Be prepared to take notes all class. Test were really difficult and never felt fully prepared for them, even after studying for days. Don't take this class if your not ready to earn your grade, no easy hand outs.
Professor Reese gives good lectures and is very inspirational. When I took one of his tests It was like he made everything up. The tests were very long and hard. I had to drop this class because it was so hard. I am partially to blame because I thought this class was simple (POLITICS IS MESSY). If you work hard to earn your grade you should take it
His classes are challenging bcuz he cares & wants you to succeed in life. Took POLS301 & POLS302 w/ him, earned an "A" in both. To the "he's too difficult/too much work" - THIS IS COLLEGE! I've xfr'd to State University and w/out experiencing Reese's rigor, I'd fail. If you plan to xfr, TAKE REESE! On 1st day at State you'll be so glad you did!
I loved this teacher ! He's honestly not that difficult . He lays out exactly what it is you are doing for the entire semester. You get to use notecards for essays and he gives detailed study guides. As long as you read and actually show up you will do great! Plus he is super nice and actually cares about his students.
Prof. Reese has a lot of passion for what he does and it shows. During the semester, I went to a TED talk where he was one of the speakers and his speech was not much different from his everyday lectures. Not saying his speech wasn't good, but that his classroom lectures ARE that good. Stay engaged in class (which isn't hard), and you will do well.
Lectures usually involved him talking unless we watched a movie which was often. He is a slow grader for exams that are easy if you study. Only the final paper was he a little vague on the directions. Recommended for poly sci majors.
I love this class. It's very interesting, but a little difficult to stay focused for the lectures at 9am. Your entire grade is three tests and three essays. No clear directions for the "big" essay; I have no idea what he is looking for. He did not give back the last test/essay so nobody knows their grades walking into the final.
I enjoyed his class, and found it to be a breeze. He's not big on responding to emails but he is available outside of class in his office. He also does life coaching and genuinely wants you to succeed. Primary downside was poor time management and as a result a lack of time for class discussion on current events mid way through the semester.
Nice, fair grader, super clear, great lectures. Only criticism I have at all is he uses Twitter for announcements which is really annoying because you can miss important announcements. It would be nice if he just used email like other profs because my class has missed important info.
David Reese gives amazing lectures. Be sure you do the assigned readings and take notes becasue his tests are challenging. His class was an enlightening experience for me. He's pretty funny in his own way and he keeps things interesting.
very difficult. he runs the course like its for a major and the tests are very large. even with studying the tests were very difficult.
why would anyone take this class. he uses class time like theyre his personal ted talks and the amount of instruction and help he provides is minimal.
Stay away from taking a class from him! While this is an intro to government class, it is very hard! Even when I studied so hard, it felt like I could never answer his tough test questions right. He takes so long to grade things, not to mention, you basically have no idea what you have in this class unless you visit him in office hours.
I really enjoyed professor Reese. His class is difficult if you don't pay attention to his lectures. His lectures are heavy but make sure to write everything down for the open note quizzes. Two tests One final and one Project. He's a really good man and really help you out if you visit his office hours. I learned a lot in this class.
Overall not a good prof. The assignments build upon another, and you can't start the next paper if you have a redo on the previous one. But he took a while to give the homework back(one took a month) and I ended up rushing the papers because of that. His lectures were interesting, but he contradicted himself a lot. Not a prof. I would recommend
With Reese, there are people who like him and those who do not. I am one of the latter. In my experience with him, Prof. Reese was always a good week or so behind in lectures making studying for tests extremely difficult. He also failed to return my rough draft for our big paper on more than one occasion. Tests are hard but he does grade on a curve
Don't expect an email back. He only communicates through twitter, refuses to use school sites to update grades, never responds to students. Nice guy but really disorganized class
If you are person who does not like to use social media, do not take this class. He uses twitter for announcements. I have never had a professor who used twitter to communicate with students. I wish he would stick to email for announcements. Overall, this is an okay class, but I would not take it again with him.
If you show up, take good notes and at least skim the book, you should do fine. He lectures every class, and he invites tough conversations. I really enjoyed his class.
Professor Reese has a very straight forward lesson plan and it is easy to follow. Almost everything gone over during the class lecture is all from the required textbook, tests as well. Reading is a big part of the class but even though there is a lot of it that is pretty much the only homework. Do the reading and you can easily pass this class.
Prof. Reese is a wealth of knowledge, & also the best teacher I have had (1.5 years and 47 credits later). I am not a quick learner, & politics is not something I have cared much about, but Prof. Reese took the time to help me through the semester, & inspired me to get past my insecurities as a student. Take his class, if you need help, JUST ASK!
What to expect: teacher will not grade on time, if you want to know anything at all go to his office hours, get passionate about politics or don't pass at all, tests are extremely difficult. If you still do take him, good luck. Would not recommend. The rest is up to you kids
David Reese can seem really intimidating when you first start the class, but he really cares about his students. He has offered to write me letters of rec. His lectures are amazing and inspiring, I am a POLS major because of him.
Hes the worst and doesnt provide canvas so you never know your grade. Also doesnt give homework, just expects you to read and complete a hard paper at the end.
His class is my favorite by far. He is really kind and genuinley wants everyone who works hard to succeed. Sometimes he missed class but that was gift and gave me a chance to go study for exams. I recommend reading the chapter before the lecture because then you know what he is talking about. No gum chewing is allowed which is awesome.
I learned more in my high school government class. The bibliography, annotated bib, and research paper are impossible because he wants you to research how a legislation came to be when people have only written about the effects of the act! I maybe could have tolerated this class if it wasn't for the boring lectures and impossible prompt.
He is an amazing professor. I will say that the class is very lecture heavy, and he only gives a few tests, and one paper at the end of the them (the paper is really really hard) but through it all he is an inspirational person who really wants all of his students to succeed. If you're willing to put in the work then he's a great choice!
Here is the thing, there isn't really any point of showing up to class unless for pop quizzes which he quizzes the things that he lectures. But more importantly his exams are wack. There is no way there is a chance to study for it. Pretty much you need a real good basic knowledge of everything in order to do well in the exams. No point studying.
Prof. Reese loves what he teaches. He also honestly cares about you as a student. You just have to make a solid effort and take tons of notes. If you don't show up, refuse to engage in class, and do the bare minimum you will NOT PASS. He is extremely approachable so take advantage of his office hours. PolSci isn't for everyone but he makes it work.
He definitely cares about what he is touching but I didn't agree with the way he taught it. We share the same political beliefs but in political science neutrality is a must. He requires you to follow him on twitter which I don't have a problem with but the articles he shares are typically opinion pieces that are far from scientifically neutral.
His lectures demand your attention, his demeanor demands your affection, and his class demands your passion.
David Reese is the laziest professor I have ever had. I did not get any of my assignments back and still do not know what grade I received in the class. He does not use canvas. I agree with his politics but his lectures are awkward/rambled thoughts, which causes the class to do poorly on his tests (since his lectures do not prepare you for them).
Want to UNDERSTAND govt? Take him. Looking for a min effort elective? Don't. MUST BE WILLING TO LEARN. Tip: Use slides to outline notes. actively LISTEN ite down ex., use textbook for missed info. Anything written on whiteboardon the test. Analyze #mustreese Do STUDY, utilize the study guide, go to office hours, ask Q's,& DO NOT SLACK ON PAPER!
Prof. Reese is another teacher that I absolutely love because of his inspiring message about politics and government. I truly understand his way of thinking. One thing that was scary though was studying for the tests. But if you read the chapters and study well, everything should be okay!
Reese is an absolute genius. His lectures are absolutely amazing and you will no doubt learn so much from him. I left his class with such a broadened view of Political Science and felt much more educated on everything in that field. Extremely hard class, but the information you will learn is worth it. Tests are comprehensive not memorization!Study
Professor Reese is one of the most interesting professors Ive ever come across. His lectures require that you take notes, but you leave each class wanting to be a better American citizen. Sounds cheesy, but its the truth. He doesnt use canvas which can make you feel stressed at times, but TAKE GOOD NOTES and you will be fine.
As someone who isn't a PolySci major, this was possibly the most complicated thing I've ever done in my life. If you don't read the textbook, (and sometimes even when you DO), you'll have a hard time understanding the content. But the professor knows his stuff SO well, and he's really willing to work with you. Still, this one is a TOUGH class.
Lectures on importance of listening to all sides, staying out of tribalism in parties, and doing own research to get to the truth. But, mandates students follow him on twitter where he pushes his tribalistic (party preference) ideas that clearly are NOT researched for accuracy or balance. It is about his politics, not the politics. Assimilation.
I really enjoyed this class, it challenged me. READ THE BOOK, it's dense material and the lectures only scrape the surface. People say he requires you to follow him on twitter, but in my class it wasn't required or necessary. If you're lost, which you will be, talk to him. Attend lectures, take good notes. You'll need to work for your grade!
Make sure to take specific notes! Tests count for a lot of your grade!
I was dreading taking this class but Prof Reese enthusiasm and love for political science made me love it. He teaches in a fair balanced way. He doesnt sugar coat stuff and I love that. He tries to scare you half to death on the first day but he is a very thoughtful and kind Professor. He wants you to succeed and will do anything possible to help
Really difficult to follow, get ready to read. So hard to focus on him talking for an hour and 20 mins straight. I would not take this class if you're not ready for a lot of reading, homework, or anything.
Professor Reese is really a sweet understanding guy. He genuinely wants you to pass the class. If you are struggling in the class and your grade is going down all you have to do is talk to him and he will let you know exactly what to do. DO THE STUDY GUIDES BEFORE TESTS!! Do steps of your class project on time and you will get an A.
The lectures didnt leave things open for discussion. There was only room for one belief in this class, and he even said regarding a couple political beliefs that people who believed the opposite shouldnt be in college. I actually agreed with his political view but I believe it was unprofessional. Its not right to encourage students to drop out.
His online class was an absolute mess. He didn't grade my assignments until 3 weeks after the semester ended, and there was no feedback for why I got the grade I did. I know he's sick, but he's set to teach another class next semester and that just seems so irresponsible in light of the fact that he clearly is not able to teach in his condition.
Took his class online in Fall 2021. He only assigned like six discussion boards, two essays, and a final project. No tests or quizzes. Stopped providing good powerpoints less than halfway into the semester. Had almost nothing to do in here for about a month. Did not grade anything until the beginning of January 2022. Never got feedback on anything.
Reese is v passionate about the class, which comes through in lectures. If you are struggling see him in office hours, he is a completely different, nicer person there. Essay heavy, but not a tough grader. Understanding and transparent. If he sees your effort, he will believe in you. His personal troubles did bleed into the operation of class.
Reese brings passion to the lectures, though he can sometimes be opinionated. Engaging with his feedback in office hours pays off. Essays are heavy, but he's a fair grader if you put in the effort. Unstuck AI was a game-changer for studying.
This class is disorganized! Online portion- lacking. In-class lectures- only understandable if you have prior knowledge of certain terms/concepts. Expectations of assignments were unclear, info from lectures wasn't referenced in any essay/test. Essay Qs were wordy/confusing. I need a lot of structure, this class was difficult for me to keep up with
He was very knowledgeable but unorganized. He would often just not show up to class without sending an email, he gave us a pop quiz and midterm that he just never graded, had many classes that where we just watched YouTube, and he didn't grade anything till after the class was done. However, he is very passionate and will help in office hours.
He was absent for many classes without warning and graded everything very objectively with no real explanation of why the grade was given. Not much of a rubric shown either. Responded to maybe 20% of my emails and waited until the last day of the grading period to complete the grading which was worth like 70% of the full class grade.
You learn everything from the lectures and it was not hard to get the hang of I dont even remember reading my txtbook. He was absent times w/o notice (had a family thing at one point) and graded at the end of the semester which was a little annoying. Show up to the lectures and ask questions for assignments, this class is very easy.
Prof Reese has a wide understanding of the social and political world. If you show up and take notes you'll do great. Make sure to talk to him if you have any difficulties and he'll be happy to help.
I learned so much in this class. He's not boring and hardly rambles in his lectures. In Fall 2024 term, he missed a lot of class on bereavement leave, especially on the last week of the term. So we had no final. I wish I didn't have to miss out on so much because of this. He was a bit of a harsh grader and didn't help online much.
He taught this class not with the intention of actually helping us learn government, but instead just teach his politics. Lectures were mandatory, but the work was only textbook based, which he would barely teach us about. Then he was absent during test week. Afterwards he assigned the exam to be done and submitted over spring break. No thanks.
I would not recommend this professor. In total there were three assignments, one quick/essay assignment and 2 big essays (midterm/science fiction). Would have been 3 essays- but took one off bc hasn't graded the first one that was due 2 months ago. He's unorganized, not consistent, and goes a lot OFF lecture slides. He was nice when approaching tho
Exams and most assignments got canceled, which he was very unclear about, but it did decrease the workload. Usually he never said anything in class or online about cancelling exams/assignments/class. He welcomes questions via email or office hours, but I only contacted his TA so idk how his response is. Doesn't grade until the end of the semester.
This course was multifarious to say the least with a direct bias towards the political stance he teaches which was reflected in his rambling lectures. He does use a mixture of movies and entertaining yet informational Youtube videos interwoven within his lectures. One Analytical Framework Project and two at-home essays due. Grades end of semester.
