difficult course, lots of studying required. Good professor, but he lectures using drawings on the board, not words...tests come directly from notes
If you can take his class, take his class. He is a very good professor. The class is not easy but very straightforward. He is not out to fail his students. And he gives lots of extra credit opportunities.
You do have to study alot, but he doesn't grade hard and gives extra credit options. Take him over anyone else..you can make an A or B if you want to.
really god teacher, knows what he is talking about and easy to follow.
Great teacher! Easy to follow and makes the class interesting.
I loved this course. I enjoyed listening to Dr. Reisman, who kinda reminds me of Jerry Garcia for some reason. His classes are clear and directed, and the tests are not tricky, but you DO have to study to learn it all. Book was helpful.
What a great guy!! He was a fair teacher and was a great advisor. He's very helpful and friendly and doesn't try to trick you. You really need to read the book, b/c the notes aren't enough to learn everything. Hard subject!
Reisman is a great guy and good professor. He has a dry sense of humor that is hilarious. I did not find the book necessary to make an A, save your 90 bucks! The material for this class is not all that interesting but Reisman really makes it understandable and the tests are not the hard.
Great teacher! Loves to teach! Willing to help! Easy class...provides extra credit.
Took this class for an elective credit as a biology major. Totally way too easy! If your a bio major, take it...trust me. If not, it's an easy class if you pay attention. Gives study guides for the test that cover the whole test. Need the book, he gives HW. Extra credit too. Easy A for anyone
gentics in society? this was really all science and gets a little in depth..but it wasn't too bad anyways..he knows his stuff and is very helpful..no attendence, no final, but homework and essays
Dr. Reisman was the best professor I had this semester. He is easy to understand and willing to help any time. Tests came straight from class notes and book material, no surprises!
Dr. (Jerry) Reisman is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's very easy to understand and makes the material interesting.
Great professor. Always helpful. Tests come from notes and from the problems he gives from the book.
Dr. Reisman is an empiricist. He wades theough the unknowns with the knowns and spouts no empty jargon. Great man and great teacher.
everyone in our class seems to really like him. im a non biology major and the class is pretty difficult for me. oh yeah, no attendence or final. He is a really good professor and tries to make things interesting even though they are not.
Dr. Reisman is definitely one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is very passionate about what he teaches and very caring of his students. I am a non-biology major and did not find this class to be too difficult. I'd recommend him to anyone!
The class wasnt too hard at all. He doesnt take attendance, but come to class and pay attention. The material on the test is stuff he lectures about during class.
Really cool teacher. Lecture and the high room temperature tended to make me extremely drowsy. A lot of the information is really interesting, but it was hard to pretend like I was as into it as he was. Try it out, I managed an A.
Exams come straight from the notes and require a lot of memorization. Dr. Reisman is definitely available to clarify the material. His penmanship has a lot to be desired so use the book to look up the material you have trouble with. It's an interesting class though and I learned a lot.
He knew what he was talking about and always had something interesting to say. I learned a good bit even though I took Bio in high school. This is a great course for non-science majors! Easy and you dont have to go to class!
Awesome professor!!!! Def. take him! I really thought I was going to fail the class but since he knew me from always going to his office for extra help with the notes, to totally gave me a C+ when I really should have gotten a D. He is really into his lectures and does not like to be interrupted. He'll left the class out early.
boring class, but not hard at all. no attendance, but does put questions from lectures on the tests. tests really aren't bad at all.
Really nice guy with a sense of humor. Is really into his lectures and will try to explain as much as he can. I'm not a bio major AT ALL and will pass the class with at least a C. No attendance, but you should go and take notes. He will rarely let you out early, but tries to help you out if he can. Great guy! Get the old ed. of the book.
Great professor.
This man is an amazing professor. You do have to do the work. I would suggest going over the notes from previous class before each class and make sure you understand. Do extra credit, sample problems, study for quizzes, and take good notes. Do the work, easy A.
DONT BUY THE BOOK! The tests are straight from lecture. Pay attention to all the pictures/diagrams drawn and make sure you understand. Drops the lowest test grade and gives a couple extra credit opportunities. My FAVORITE teacher in 7 semesters at USC. So much fun to be in his class- he really loves what he does. TAKE HIMMMM!
This professor always has funny stories to share, which keeps the class interesting! He is always willing to give extra help if needed and really cares about his students doing well. I definitely recommend taking his class!
Funny guy, very clear in his lectures, his beard is amazing. He gives a quiz and an exam per unit, both are very straight-forward and I felt they covered the material extremely well. He tells a lot of jokes in class, and even though attendance wasn't required, I liked going.
This class was very interesting but extremely boring. He lectures the entire time, no notes given except for random things scrawled on the board. There were homework and random readings assigned but overall not that much work so your grade depends on tests. The tests are mostly fill in the blank so you need to know the material.
He is awesome! One of my favorite professors of all time! He's really passionate about genetics and does a great job explaining it. I really enjoyed going to class even if he lectured the whole time. It's important to go to class to get notes but the tests are easy as long as you write down what he writes and what he says. Definitely take him!
Entertaining, really funny, and interesting. He loves the material and wants his students to learn. Tests can be tricky. Most a mix of multip ch. T/F and short ans. Some quest come from book so I would buy it. He can be scatterbrained so you have to go to class and follow his lectures. Study well and you will do fine.
Awesome, was very intersting and awesome.
GREAT professor. Very funny, need to go the class and take notes but tests are not hard. Final is optional, gives extra credit! DEFINITELY recommend him! one of the best professors i've had in my 3 years at usc!
Dr. Reisman is the man. Extremely funny and genuinely likes what he is doing. If you buy the textbook you are literally throwing money out the window. You only need the notes.
He is great, and his stories are even better. He really knows his stuff, and he truly enjoys teaching!
Loved him! He was so funny and nice. He is also a GREAT teacher. He makes genetics as easy to understand as possible and tests fairly. Going to class and taking notes is essential. He doesn't waste your time with anything that he doesn't think average people will find interesting. TAKE HIM!!!
i recommend this proff. the material in this class is pretty complex, but he conveys the material well. hes kinda scatter brained so he'll go off on tangents telling funny stories. 3 exams 3 quizzes 1 easy paper, final optional! no need to get the text, but of course it helps for studying for the exams.can get a B by going to class, taking notes
ahmazing!!!!
Reisman is an easy "A", nothing else, that is why he is rated high, but his class is poor at best. Do not waste your time with such an essential class as molecular biology with Reisman. You will be behind in upper level classes because so much material is not covered in this class which is covered in other 302 classes!A waste of 3 credit hours.
Hes a great Biologist and is very fair and helpful. He has an epic beard and gives a great range of information in his lectures. This is a great way to get your foot in the door with molecular biology. Alot of people say he is an easy A, which I can agree with, but I think it is because he presents the information very well. Highly recommend!
Prof Reisman is the best! He makes class interesting and you can tell he loves the subject and his research. He is very easy to get to know so introduce yourself on the first day and don't be afraid to ask questions!
This class was very informative. Dr. Reisman very much knows his subject and presents it well to his students! He is also freakin' hilarious! I laughed every class!
great experience
Great professor, one of the best I've ever had. He's so willing to help students and his classes are always interesting, guaranteed to make you laugh at least once a lecture. Tests and assignments are always fair.
Very interesting guy.. will go off on tangents but offers extra credit. take notes and all the test are the same format.
Dr. Reisman is hilarious and a really cool guy. He has some awesome stories. Overall the class is not too difficult, just take good notes and look over the notes he gives and assigned book questions and you are definitely able to get an A or B.
It's obvious that he loves what he is teaching which makes the class a lot easier to follow, he is also very helpful and willing to work with his students. A good guy and a good professor.
His tests were pretty difficult, but if you go to his office hours and show him that you are really trying he will give you the benefit of the doubt. Prepare to do some studying, he does word his questions a little weird. One of my all time favorite professors! I would defiantly recommend taking him again. Super sweet and helpful!
A very nice guy with a great sense of humor. I would say that this class is an obtainable A, but you must study for the quizzes and the test. I have only made one B at USC, and this will probably be my second due to me not taking the first test serious. I made a 50 on the first test, and B's on all the rest. Just do the studying & take good notes.
One of my favorite professors ever! The subject matter isn't easy, so it's not a cake walk- but that's to be expected. He will do whatever to help you out and make cell and molec interesting and applicable. Wish there were more professors like Dr. Reisman.
Reisman won the professor of the university award while I had him and he deserves it. I took Bio 206 (Genetics and Society) as an Accounting Major and I enjoyed this class. Hes funny, very intelligent, and nice. He gives out homework weekly but its super easy. 3 exams and no final. Make sure you ask him about his trip to Mexico.
Professor Reisman is the man!! His lectures go into a lot more detail than what you actually need for the tests. He just knows so much on the subject and gets excited about it. Easy tests and there is no final. Ask about his trip to Mexico
Genetics and Society wasn't the most interesting subject to me, but Reisman's hilarious story telling abilities kept me coming back to class. There was a weekly homework assignment, a few additional (easy) readings, and three non-cumulative exams with no final exam. I would definitely take another class by him if it was an option for my major!
The material is pretty in depth and he teaches somewhat fast so it can be hard to keep up sometimes, but he is extremely helpful. Very smart and interested in what he bio. Attendance isn't mandatory but essential to succeed in the class. I didn't dread class though because he is exceptionally witty and funny! Favorite professor I've had yet
Dr. Reisman is an excellent professor and is very passionate about the material he teaches. Attendance is not mandatory, however, I highly suggest attending class. His lectures come from drawings he posts on blackboard that are explained in lecture. The lowest exam grade is dropped at the end of the semester. 10/10 would take again.
He's a great teacher, but his teaching style wasn't for me. A lot of his information is very generic and he expects you to research the rest in your spare time to become the master of that topic. His tests were slightly ridiculous. The drawings and definitions were the toughest parts, and it's not like you can really prepare for those.
This class is an easy A if you show up to class, pay attention, and take a the time to study for his exams. You have to go to class because the notes/drawings he posts online don't make sense without his explanations . The two short papers are easy points, and he gives extra credit. You only need to buy the book to do the extra credit. Funny guy.
Dr. Reisman is by far my favorite professor! He is hilarious and down to earth & is always willing to help you if you don't understand the material. His lectures are a little confusing because the notes posted online are his own drawings that sometimes do not make since and are vague. Test are multiple choice and not too hard. Great class overall!
Dr. Reisman is a cool guy and doesn't make you feed stressed out in class. He posts his drawings and some notes; they occasionally include his really bad handwriting. His tests are pretty detail heavy, but he gives a practice test that is similar. There is a short paper and a little bit of reading other than the tests so not a bad workload.
I received a 3.7 GPA for med school from USC. First, if you're having difficulty understanding his material, his door is always open. Go & ask him! After 302, I did my independent study w Dr. D. Reisman researching immunology. Awesome experience;receivedA!! Amazing prof. I'm applying for my PhD because of Dr. Reisman. Study hard & respect him
Super funny and chill guy who LOVES what he teaches. Unfortunately, he's extremely disorganized. He doesn't really connect ideas well. Talks too fast to write down all of the important stuff he says, but his notes are posted online, if you can decipher them. 2 extra pointless assignments, but they are easy A's. Tests use lots of old questions.
He's a nice and funny guy that wants to help his students. He posts his PowerPoints online but they are hard to decipher and read so if you don't come to class you won't understand what they mean. The biggest con is his lectures, they are very disorganized and all over the place. If you come to class and pay attention, you should be fine.
The papers are easy, but the tests are difficult, comprised of multiple choice and short answer. You have to study your notes from lecture!! The final exam is optional.
David Reisman is very nice. He's very knowledgable and is always willing to answer any questions. I'm not a science person, but you do learn some really interesting stuff in his class. Attendance is not mandatory- just make sure you do the reading assignments and study for the tests. Definitely recommend him. He's a great guy!
Dr. Reisman is a great professor who really cares about the interests of his students. This class consisted of mainly lectures with a few written assignments and tests, but if you take notes in class then you'll do fine. Attendance is not mandatory, but it's hard to keep up with the material if you don't go to class. He is funny and relaxed.
Dr. Reisman is a gem and a great cell and molec. teacher. Sometimes he can get boring but every 1.25 hour class does. His notes are unreadable but he has most of them rewritten by a previous student. Past tests help a lot but it's possible to do well and exempt the final without them.
One of the coolest dudes. Attendance never taken but go anyway. Grade is 4 current events and exams. Take notes and review some of the chapter summary questions in the book and secure the A.
Dr. Reisman is very smart and passionate about his subject. His exams are pretty difficult and he loves drawings. His handwriting is awful. Tests are lecture based. 2 papers and 4 exams is your grade. Final is optional. His voice is very soothing and I was often very sleepy in class even though the material is extremely interesting. Really funny
Dr Reisman is really smart and knows what he is talking about. He incorporates humor into his lectures and is really nice to talk to. Attendance isn't mandatory but the material is hard to grasp if you don't go. He offers extra credit and if you study the lecture material, optional homework problems, and find old test banks you will do great.
A decent professor, really nice & funny . His lectures can be boring and dry. His exams are pretty hard, not something you want to cram for. The way to an A is honestly to get old exams and just study those questions along with the new topics he provides. He gives some EC. Also most of his notes are really hard to read since they're just scanned.
I wish I could take Reisman for more classes. He is so funny and interesting. Attendance is not taken but you need to go to class to understand the material. It is not miserable to be in class with him though so definitely a 10/10 guy! So yeah take him and ask him about his trip to Mexico.
Professor Reisman is one of my all time favorite professors. He is a really genuine person, and is really knowledgable. Attendance is not required, there was no final, and he offered extra credit. Such a fun class, and a great atmosphere.
Reisman is a cool dude. His lectures are super boring, he doesn't take attendance but you really should go and try to retain something, it'll help on exams. He will offer extra credit and everything is graded leniently besides exams. No final. Not easy but not hard. He tells great stories, ask him about his trip to Mexico during his undergrad.
Only graded on 3 exams and 3 assignments for a total of only 400 points. He offers minimal extra credit if the whole class does poorly on assignments. He's sweet but has a tendency to not teach to the exam
He is different than other professors. Everything is basically based off of his lectures and it isn't always clear on WHAT to study for the exam (and his notes are illegible). However, he does a GREAT job at explaining genetics; you just have to stay focused in class and take notes on your computer to keep up! Very approachable teacher and funny.
He's funny. His notes are terrible, very vague and unreadable. Lectures are dull and disorganized. Tests on things not in the textbook and only posts notes to print an hour before class. Tests are HARD. Asks questions about random insignificant things. Gave 2 extra credit opportunities and does care about students though. Final is optional.
Other than his handwriting being hard to read, he is a pretty good professor! He posts lectures on youtube and the tests are pretty straightforward and open notes, all multiple choice. Definitely take the time to watch the videos and study if you want to pass though. He's a good guy
Dr. Reisman is very knowledgeable, and almost always available for help. That being said, this is in-depth material you have to work for. Read all the recommended readings in the textbook, and take notes during lecture. If possible, watch the lecture twice to truly absorb information. Hard class, but doable to get an A if you put the effort in.
If you have him online, the tests are not taken using lockdown. If you basically watch all of his lectures and truly write word for word what he says during them, you will get an A. His exams are straight from things he says in his lectures, but not the book and not online anywhere. Your grade relies almost solely on exam grades.
Dr. Reisman is a great professor! Even though I had him online because of COVID his lectures were not to bad, but they were kind of long. He gave only a few assignments and exams so make sure to study and watch or go to lectures.
I took Dr. Reisman online because of COVID. He is so sweet and really cares about his students and their success. Graded on 4 simple assignments and 3 exams, final is optional if you are happy with your grade. Tests are mainly from his lectures, not a lot of material from the book. Definitely take him if you can! My favorite professor hands down
Dr. Reisman is a genuinely funny guy. He loves telling stories related to lecture, which ended up helping me remember the content. You need to go to lecture to understand the entirety of the content, although he does post powerpoints. He's caring and you can tell he enjoys teaching. Very nice and entertaining, I hope to take him in the future.
You can tell he loves teaching this course. He does talk a lot but he gives good letures. Very good with responding to emails, sweet man
Professor Reisman is so passionate about genetics and made taking this course so much fun. He is very kind and has a great demeanor that makes taking his classes very enjoyable, and also makes him very approachable. Take him if you can!!!
I highly recommend going to class, sometimes the things he says in class are seen on exams. All exams were online, with no lockdown and it's not based on how much you understand the material. He also has 3 readings and an assignment to complete outside of class. He knows a lot about the subject and is a sweet professor. Also offers extra credit.
His tests are incredibly difficult and the lectures do NOT prepare you for them. I studied for hours and still only got a 70. Out of 125 students, only 6 people got As on the last test, but Reisman is too stuck on his ways to realize that's awful. The lectures are horrendous and he should stay in a lab. Don't take him if you care about you sanity!
Honestly, don't listen to the negative reviews on Dr. Reisman. A lot of people took his class because they heard he gave open note exams and then got mad when he actually made them learn the material this semester. His lectures were interesting and fun and he is passionate about the subject and wants students to succeed. Gives extra credit.
Overall his class was just okay, I attended every lecture and took notes but just barley managed to get a B. He is very knowledgeable about the class, however he often went on unrelated tangents which made it hard to fully understand the topics, His quizzes typically reflect the material on exams and he gives you a outline of exam topics.
No longer does online exams. You have to actually learn the material. Lectures can be confusing for knowing what will be on the exam. Sometimes powerpoints are useless in understanding the concept needed for class/exam. *!Take notes on what he says!* Definitely cares (gave 10 EC). Easy to reach, and will answer questions about concepts. Book helps.
He recently changed the way he tests so instead of all the exams being online and open note he now does them paper and pencil in class. His tests and quizzes are super hard and although I got an A I would switch to another easier professor.
He is one of my favorite professors ever. I highly recommend taking him. He makes the material easy to understand. His exams are straight from the notes. So if you study the notes and understand them, you are completely fine! Also,if you are struggling, he is always open to help you as much as possible because he really does care about his students
He is the sweetest professor I have take here so far. He offered 20 points of extra credit through textbook practice problems. 2 homework assignments, 1 quiz before each exam (open-note), and drops your lowest exam (in-class) grade. Gives out sample exams and has started reviews upon our request. He is very knowledgable and wants you to understand.
He is probably one of the most invested professors at the university. He genuinely wants his students to succeed. Plenty of extra credit. One of the most interesting and funny guys. Quizzes are a week before the exam and give a good basis of what'll be on the exam. Exams are pretty difficult but doable if you study, and like I said, extra credit.
Dr. Reisman is great. He is super funny and really cares for his students. He offers a LOT of extra credit, which is nice. His exams are kind of tough, but if you study and go to class everything is pretty much straight from the notes/lectures. I would definitely take him again.
I loved Reismen as a professor, he is an angle. He was always available for office hours and extra help. I will say that this class is just very challenging and dense- probably one of the hardest bio classes I have taken. You will need to dedicate time to get a good grade, but I would totally take him.
Though the material is tough, Reisman makes lecture enjoyable. He is always available outside of class, regardless of his office hours. PLENTY of EC. If you attend lectures, you will do well on the exams. Final is optional if you are satisfied with your grade. He wants all of his students to succeed.
brilliant professor who loves the topic so lectures are always super interesting. Exams are based off of what is said in lectures. PPTs are on blackboard so attendance is not mandatory. Exams are tricky but he provides lots of practice and example questions as well as topic lists. There is also lots of extra credit throughout the semester.
The material is hard but if you study well for the exams you'll get a good grade. Make sure to attend lecture as a lot of the slides are images and he speaks about the images. A lot of extra credit is giving and lectures are very engaging with stories. He cares about his students.
Loved David Reisman. While his class was very lecture heavy, he really does care about his students and gives a ton of extra credit. This class can be challenging but he makes it easy for you to make a good grade. Would take him again.
Mr. Reisman is so sweet, I wish he were my grandpa. He is funny and kind and genuinely wanted the best for all of his students. This class is pretty hard, so study and listen to lectures if you want to do well. He gives extra credit and is the nicest professor ever.
He is so adorable and passionate about what he teaches. He is witty, interesting to listen to, and tests on cool facts he shares in class. Please be nice to him he deserves the world. I love this man.
Although Reisman is a nice guy, he does not teach this class well. He talks about random topics that won't be on the exams for 30+ minutes. Take a different professor unless you want to be stressed about this class every day.
Professor Reisman is knowledgeable, and compared to other professors, he is more approachable and has a better understanding of the content. However, despite my endless studying, the exams are just very difficult; possibly due to him switching them to in-person. There is a ~10q quiz before each exam (three + a final) but they aren't too difficult.
Dr. Reisman was accessible outside of class and he was super kind. By the end of the semester, there was over 20 points of extra credit assignments to help boost our grades. The class is 3 exams + an optional final + a quiz average, but when the averages were low on the first two exams he made the third exam and the final online to help us succeed.
Please take another professor for BIO302 this class was horrible and no matter the amount of studying I did, I still did not pass the exams. His ppt had 1 picture and 4 words, making it hard to study, I had to drop the class so that it wouldn't affect my GPA. PLEASE take it with somebody else!!!
Super nice guy and he obviously cares and wants his students to succeed, but the class is impossible to study for. His slideshows are all pictures with almost no words; overall very difficult to take notes on. He made the 3rd and final exams online and open note because the majority of people failed his first two in person exams.
Reisman is honestly the sweetest professor ever but his exams are impossible. Even going to every lecture he will test on the most irrelevant things that he mentions once. PP are just pictures and most test questions are so in depth that you barely know what it is asking. He changed back to online tests half way through the semester. good luck!
Professor Reisman is a caring and engaging instructor. His class can be challenging, but his extra credit opportunities and lecture-focused format make it manageable. Using Unstuck ai and the free textbook helped me succeed.
