Dave is a very energetic and charismatic teacher. His course material is a little on the difficult side, but he explains concepts for you with such ease that you are left wondering why you were unable to get it the first time you read it. Take his classes

Hes very energetic. Great teacher. I would take him again. The only bad thing is that he plays these discussion games that put students on the spotlight. Grades pretty easy on papers. Be prepared for quizzes.
David is very good at philosophy...i pretend u know what'sphilosophy is if u dont

My all time favorite instructor. He's intense, innovative and arguably brilliant. You will learn so much from him if you pay attention, do your assignments and go to class. As an extra bonus, he's mighty entertaining too!
He is one of the greatest professors I have ever had. He is interesting, knowledgeable, and has a great personality. If you take his class, you should be prepared to have fun and also to work hard. He comes up with interesting and thought provoking questions for his papers. Overall, it was a pleasure being in his class.
All the above (or below) characteristics are correct: he is interesting and intelligent. But - strict about the due dates. Be prepared before going to class - you may loose points that will affect your final grade.
Intelligent, clear, well versed and interesting. A great teacher. He is strict with his due dates though, and actually demands quality work (gasp!). But the cool thing is, he teaches well enough so that as long as you show up to class, your work WILL be quality. Cool guy, good looking too! Gotta love younger teachers!
He's very good at explaining things in a way that makes you love the material and want to know more. Very energetic, you'll never be bored in his class. I like the material he gives, it's challenging. First time I've wanted to take another class (or ten) with a professor.
I think he is the best teacher in HWC.! If you really want to learn something and be entertained while you working hard , his class is for you. He is so interesting and hot , that I would take five of his classes if I could. :) I got a B in his class, even though I really wanted an A , but what I learned and explored will stay with me forever, s
Not easy at all...
I was initially afraid of his class. but once you get accostumed to it, its not so bad. i enjoyed when i learned more, but be prepared if you ask him a question in class he will make you think of the answer. overall i liked the class, plan on taking more with him.
Richardson was the best teacher I'd ever known in my life, every class was fun. His lessons were kindly hard but efficient and absoluely fascinating. His passion was so intense from the first class to the end. But one thing is you need to prepare a huge of homework, otherwise you'll fail. Take one of his word"don't left a lot of chicken on that bone.
VERY HARD!IT IS TOO MUCH!
This class is a 100 level class and Dave thinks it's 102 English level class. He doesn't realizes that this is Harowd Washington college not Northwestern or University of Chicago. He is asking for too much!
If you think he is asking too much, you are lazy. Dave asks only that you think. if thats too much for you what are you doing in college? He is my favorite teacher of all time. You will have a great time in his class if you like to question everything. but enter humbly, you will come out with a richer soul.
he likes to intimidate his students. better than i had thought, but not the best
Great professor,I will definitely take him again!
i won't take him again & don't recommend him either, way too stressful to take in any philosophy. he is enthusiastic, but lack some communication with his students. most are too stressed out going for the 'c' in his class.
He is very helpful and uses real life examples to explain topics. Lots of group work. Participation is important and helpful. Makes things easy to remember. Easy to access out of class. Makes complex ideas seem simple. Must study out of class, and it helps to take good notes!
I took professor for a ethics class and I recommend him. He wants students to succeed an dhe's available to them. He's will work with you. All you have to do is put forth effort and try. Do reading, get to class on time, respond intelligently, take notes and make sure to ask questions. You do these things and you'll be fine.
This is not an easy class, but if you do your best and show up on time, you should be fine. Overall awesome class.
friendly, but he lack communication with students. sometimes the due dates for hw isn't given, the class assume it is on one day, he another & it depend on his mood if he would accept the work. it happened more than once. lectures are hard to follow. he is a bit too "philosophical" in the class.
This teacher is the best teacher in the whole wide world. The class it self is hard as hell, but if you attend everyday and study the material on the outline you will do fine. Watch out for quizzes, he likes to mix things up a little. Be prepared at all time.
This is a good teach. Some of the philosophy concepts are hard to grasp at first, but if you keep up with the reading, homework & practice the concepts you will do fine. He keeps you intrigued in the class, he's very unpredictable. He does in class exercises, some lectures & many class discussions. I would love to take another class of his.
Helpful teacher, enjoyed his class very much.
Great class. I would strongly recommend taking any philosophy class with Dave. You have to have an open mind and willing to learn in order to pass his class though. You really have to try and grasp the ideas he is putting in front of you. There are some clarity issues, and sometimes confusion; but overall I enjoyed the class very much.
It is philosophy people,go to class and ask questions if you have any.Dave is very helpful and will explain anything you need to know.Ask for help with papers and go to office hours if needed(every teacher appreciates this).Don't sleep, thats the worst you can do in any class.Give feed back and share thoughts, lecture is key when concerning phil!
he is the quintessential prof: his teaching transcends the material setting in which it is carried out and his hard-won insight encourages students to take up their own pursuit of knowledge. simply put, your not going to find another prof. who surpasses his exceptional pedagogy. also, he writes killer letters of rec. derekh-umiami.
great teacher, recommend. learned alot .
Dave was very easy on the eyes, however, he was also very challenging and made the class joyful to attend. I've taken 3 classes with him, and it's just about reading; doing the homework you are assigned, and attendance--he's also very helpful, and has a wide range of office hours. Take dave; you will learn, grow, and prosper in your future endeavor
Participate in class! You have to talk in class if you really want an A in Dave's class. Also, read the material. Yes it can get long, but you must understand what he is trying to influence. Very helpful and understanding. If you want to learn this is a class for you. Huge recommendation to take Dave!
Is a great professor and really makes you thunk. Going to class is important, he does notice. Overall pay attention, and participate, it will help when it comes to writing your papers.
Richardson is a god. Simply put, pure genius. He's been a mentor for many years as I went from undergrad to post-undergrad to grad student. He IS the reason I'm back in school to get a masters degree, at an Ivy-level school, no less. He's everything a good teacher should be and anyone who is serious about learning knowledge would appreciate him.
I wish I could go back to HWC just to take his class! He is so inspiring and awesome that I have goosebumps thinking about it :) He is what a real teacher should be like!!!! Whoever said he's God! They were RIGHT!!!!
He will guide you to question norms...and all that jazz. Enjoy! KW3
My god, what a teacher. Dave Richardson deserves the world. This man is so smart that he's intimidating and inspiring simultaneously. If you've never been rocked back by the presence of purpose, this class is too soon for you. Don't take his class if you're not motivated and trying to better yourself. God I love this man.
He is a GREAT teacher! You will definitely not regret taking a class with him. He explains VERY clear and uses various [funny] examples to get his point across. He loves what he does, which makes us love the class.
RICHARDSON IS A GOD! I highly recommend this class to anyone in any field. Logic is useful to anyone anywhere and Dave is the guy to teach it. He is one of the most understanding professors out there and one of the best I've ever encountered. Thank so much Dave. I wish I could take his class again!!! He is the Best- pure genius!!!
best teach i've ever had, & others say the same. it's hard to get good teachers @ harold washington, so definitely take a class with him. material is challenging & his instruction/explanation of assignments, texts & everything is very clear. easy to talk to, every class is interesting & exciting. very rare
One of the best professors ever! He truly has a gift for teaching and making the subject extremely interesting. I loved his classes (Philosophy and Humanities)! I highly recommend him :)
Great professor, his lecture and class activities are always interesting, humor included (:. This is a class that has really opened up my mind and helped me to appreciate a good challenge. He is very clear in explaining things, his class has taught me things that will be useful in my over all scholastic career, lots of reading but worth it.
Professor Richardson is a great teacher! He is passionate about teaching. His class is interesting and inspiring. We had quizzes and class discussions. You will be able to receive a good grade if you do your parts (i.e. read the text before the class, contribute your thoughts and submit good philosophy papers according to his guides).
Dave is amazing. He really cares about his students and it shows. Be prepared to read a lot and to write a lot, but if you can handle the work then you will enjoy his classes very much. Love you Dave!!
I love this guy!!! I had him for Logic, Hum 201 & another course (I forgot what since it's been almost 10yrs!).His class was literally the highlight of my education at H. Washington! He's not easy but you WILL learn. He is super fair & is always available during office hours. He's super approachable. Even now, he's the only prof I still visit.
He is very helpful, reasonable, and gorgeous!
He is very helpful! And super nice!!He is alo very polite and approachable. But be prepared to participate and engage in the group discussions. He is very passionate, and friendly. I have only good things to say about him. Take him!! you will learn a lot!!!
Well, there are good profs, great profs, and then there is Mr. Richardson. I don't think I will ever have a teacher better then Mr. Richardson. There were people who at the beginning of the course were very sceptical of philosophy, including myself, but by the end we were all true believers. Mr. Richardson is GOD! PRAISE HIM!!!!
Dave is the best teacher I have ever had. I took two classes with him and they were by far the best I've had at HWC or anywhere else. I actually stayed an extra semester to take his Phil of Religion course. I will miss him. Do yourself a favor & take his courses. His Logic course is tough but rewarding.
David was an awesome teacher. He wanted to make sure everyone had a grasp on Logic and would work with students to ensure they picked it up easily.
This class can tackle concepts that require a lot of critical thinking. Although I personally struggled in school for various reason, I would highly reccomend this professor and class. Dave is very enthusiastic about philosophy and my favorite professor I've had and most helpful. I will always enjoy learning about philosophy and life.
He's electrifying, enlightening, dynamic, and inspirational. I didn't know if I would make it , but wound up doing much better then I thought I would. I would absolutely take one of his classes again. If you want to truly learn about Philosophy and understand it, this is the person to go to. One of my most rewarding classroom experiences ever.
He's electrifying, dynamic, challenging, and inspirational. I had mixed feelings at first, but ended up doing much better than I thought at the end. I would absolutely take another one of his classes. If you want to learn and understand Philosophy, this is who to go to. Highly recommended.
Richardson was awesome!!He is very helpful when you ask to clarify something. If you like challenge, take him.
Best class I have ever taken, amazing professor. Goofy and Fun, hard work though. Be prepared to READ and PRACTICE!!! Come to every class, be on time, use the tutor, go to office hours. It is all worth it!!
Mr. Richardson is a fantastic person and teacher. He really seems to care about his students. Logic is a hard class, so don't take it if you're not willing to work at it. Even though the subject isn't that fun, he makes it interesting. I would definitely recommend taking his classes.
This class is not easy, so if you are looking for an easy A then look somewhere else. However, if you actually want to learn something then this is your guy. There are many readings. There are pop quizzes. And just like math, you have to practice to be good at Logic. You will learn so many things but it requires a lot of discipline on your part.
Professor Richardson is one hilarious man. The concept was hard, so it will take a lot of work and practice to understand it. However, he makes it fun to learn and is always there to help if you are not understanding it. I would totally recommend this class to anyone, but just be prepared to work and laugh at his jokes!
Logic has been the hardest class I've ever taken. But Richardson makes it interesting and sort of easy. Students hate the fact that when you ask for help he just shrugs and smiles, however, this is more helpful to you. It reminds you to always read and to study. Quizzes are hard, you have to read in detail but the exams are easy if you study A LOT.
Logic was a challenging class but Richardson is a great professor. If I have trouble I went to his office hours and we was always patient and helped me learned concepts I struggled in. The class overall was not easy but he does his best in providing resources to pass the class.
Richardson is a tough grader. Gives you reading to do every single class & expects you to understand it. Penalizes for tardiness or not showing up to class. There is a lot of pop quizzes. A lot of group discussions. He expects too much on the journals. No extra credit. Class is boring & he talks too much. I wouldnt recommend. See for yourself!
I LOVE love LOVE Professor Richardson!! Loved taking his class, and met him after several semesters in the lobby in the elevator, and he still remembered me. Touched by his caring nature. Amazing :)
The best!
This professor believes in students teaching themselves which is ridiculous. I've tried asking questions in class to get better understanding of my readings and he refuses to answer. will accuse you of not working hard enough if you do the readings and still have questions. Worst professor ever I wouldn't recommend anyone to take his classes.
What makes him different from all of the professors I've had in the past is that his classes are ACTIVE. Expect to work in groups and do activities involving the select texts he assigns to read. He doesn't only lecture, encourages group discussion to lead the class. He is an amazing professor. As long as you communicate with him, all will be okay.
Dave is one of the smartest and most caring person I've ever met. If you pay attention, do the readings, and participate in the discussions, you will experience that coveted "aha!" moment in his class and it will be... glorious. A sublime and life changing class.
Although there are only few major assignments, this class is incredibly difficult. Richardson is a terrible lecturer, and he basically do nothing during class; students are just told to work in groups. The amount of reading is overwhelming, especially when instructor doesn't explain it, and just do pop quizzes EVERY class. You would be exhausted.
Just amazing. Prof. Richardson is always willing to help out. He has encouraged me many times. He pushes students to figure things out themselves. Expect homework everyday. This class was challenging. If you are going to take this course, I will say that it'll require many hours of study out of school for both the reading and practice.
This class has been by far, one of the hardest class Ive had taken. You need the potential to teach yourself and read through the text to understand the concept of logic. He gives good feedback but its a very tough class. If your up for the challenge then, go for it. I personally, regret taking this class
David is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Hes very accessible for out-of-class discussion in office hours and helpful for those who need it. The tests are hard at first and there is a ton of reading in this class, but if you actually do the readings and spend a few hours weekly reviewing everything, youll come out fine by the end!
Professor Richardson is one of the most outstanding professors that I've ever had. His commitment to helping students is incredible and his knowledge for his subject is remarkable. He is very accessible outside of class and does his best to help students. He even took time out and wrote me a wonderful recommendation for grad school.
Best teacher I've ever had. Kind, brilliant, etc. Expect to do 100% (or close to that) of the assignments and readings. This will virtually guarantee a decent grade and a great experience.
Prof. Davidson by far was one of my favorite professors at Harold Washington. If you're planning to transfer to a four years institution, his class will be on the same level then. Readings and knowledge are expected before starting a new chapter in class. So be prepared for pop quizzes and questions related to the chapter before class. Good luck!
This class was easily one of the best classes I've taken at this school. This professor and his material really makes you think about the society that we live in. Very discussion-based class, so be ready to be able to communicate with your fellow peers. I can't recommend this class enough; even though it's a hard class your work pays off.
Professor Richardson is one of the best teachers I've ever had. You will read and write and participate in group activities. He's lenient about giving xtra time for papers, but don't let it get out of hand bc he structures the class so you don't get overloaded. If you do this class right, you will learn a lot and gain more than just a good grade.
Professor Richardson is very committed to helping students learn the relevant course content, and taught the material in an engaging manner. He was open and available for more personal assistance in learning something if needed.
By far the worst professor at Harold Washington, I've been here for the past couple of years and this is the first time I hated a class and a teacher. I am not sure how his rating is even this high on here, he definitely does not deserve this rating, you will not learn anything at all He hands you difficult readings and expect the most out of you.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME TAKING THIS COURSE, Drop it while you can. Not exactly sure how the people below are saying that he is a good professor. ain't no way he got this job, cause he's dog water at his job.
Don't listen to any hateful comments here because they are not true! Mr. Richardson is one of the best professors at Harold when wanting to learn about Logic! He is so passionate about the course and was always helpful whenever I was stuck, overall recommend!
Mr Richardson is the best! Yeah he expects a lot from students because he believes every student is capable. It's not gonna be an easy A, it's college, if you're looking for easy college isn't where to be. He cares so much & is very accessible replied to emails fast. best prof in the college and the best teacher i ever had will remember him alwaus
Professor Richardson is one of the best college professors I've ever had. His class isn't a cake walk, but it also isn't unfair. He's a generous grader that curves grades upwards. In return, you'll be expected to read A LOT and genuinely try to learn BEFORE lectures. If you visit him during office hours and get to know him, you'll love him too.
Prof. Richardson is empathetic and invested in your learning experience as long as you make it clear that you care about his class and time. Attendance is crucial; hands-on engagement with his explanations makes the material far less daunting. I'm confident I'd have an A if I hadn't missed ~5 classes and had studied better during my absences.
Professor Richardson is a gifted teacher. He is so insanely smart but also very fun and down to earth. 10/10 one of the best I've had.
By far the best and my most favorite professor I've had. The class can mess with your head a bit at the beginning just because it's logic and it challenges your thinking style, however, I found it fun and like an interesting puzzle to solve. He cares for his students and is happy to help and discuss any confusion or just for a fun chat.
I took Professor Richardson in Spring 2024, he was a nice guy but expects you to READ a whole chapter in the book (which is 15-20 pages) before the next class. Many students always came to class stressed asf bc he always had a pop quiz for us for every class. The exams were okay but confusing. Don't take him. DO ANOTHER TEACHER!
You have to read a crap ton of chapters, study consistently to remember, grade is based only on the test/pop quizzes. If you read the chapters and go to class, you will most likely get the material but that is how the class goes. Either you do well or you will be stressing in the middle of the night. But he has passion so I guess that's something.
The class is a little difficult, in the sense that you have to organize yourself to read through the material and practice. But Honestly he's a great professor,he loves what he does and that rubs off on you. There are four tests in the semester. I got more than a 100% in some because there are extra questions, definitely doable. He cares for students.
He's very caring and you can tell he loves what he does. He answers any questions you may have and tries to provide feedback on almost every assignment. He's a great teacher and made class interesting.
