Entertaining class, just don't try to disagree. He will give you a pet name.
He is OK, tries to be friendly but can be vague and grade strange.
If you go for help, he will give it to you. He is also really funny, just don't show up late for class. Tests are straightforward, as long as you understand the material, easy A.
THIS GUY IS A ****ING **** PARDON MY LANGUAGE
Don't show up late, the teacher keeps you laughing. If you do the work its an easy A.
funniest prof i've ever had, lecture is a stand up comedy act. not the most helpful prof ever, but if you do the work, an A isn't a problem.
one poor person gets a nick name that sticks, i would tell you the one i got but its a dead give away as to who i am. his papers are long but they are easy film analyses. its a pretty easy A
he can be a bit of a sarcastic jerk. his quizzes were easy A's, but I had to work my ass off to get B's on the papers. he's pretty intimidating, even if you do all the readings. I would recommend avoiding him.

I had Romanelli for three classes and want him for more! He is so straightforward and clear and if you go to class, take notes, and read the text, you should be fine! The way he teaches 150 is wonderful; it made me want to major in communication! :)
Dave is pretty entertaining, and he's very straightforward. If you go to class and read; it's an easy A.
Dave is awesome! He's hilarious. This class is so easy if you just read, listen to lectures, and participate a little. I want to take him for more classes.
take the class this guy is awesome, its worth doing some work hes hilarious and very passionate
there aren't a lot of points in this class so don't screw up or it'll cost you. he can be a difficult grader, but he's also hilarious and one of the few professors i've had that i really enjoy listening to.
funny as hell
Honest, Tells it how it is. I was a sophomore taking a Freshmen Seminar class with 3 other sophomores. Had the best time of my life - even though he ripped on us constantly for being older. Great guy because he can shoot the****.
Class is pretty boring. KEEP UP WITH READINGS---OR YOU'LL BE F***ED ON THE FINAL PAPER.
not exactly the epitome of masculine beauty, but he knows whats going on.... one poor person get a nick name and it sticks forever...
Really good teacher! He keeps you awake and on your feet in class. Readings are small and tests are easy from his notes. (study those and you'll be fine!)

Dave is funny, but don't ****him off, seriously. You know exactly what he will test on so study it. It was an easy A, and when I was in class it was always fairly amusing. Just don't do anything that gets you a nickname or it will stick forever...
Dave is a gret guy. He knows his stuff, makes you laugh on a daily basis and will help clear something up if you dont get it. Tests are not hard as long as you study...doesnt do mult. choice, but essay tests arent too intimidating.
he thinks hes very funny- go to class or you will be screwed
he used to be a stand up comedian... so that says a little somethin about him. hes a really good comm teacher i think. id take him again. he's intimidating at first - but stick with the class for about 2 days and it's totally fine. decently easy grader but there are only 100 pts in the class
very funny teacher. you will constantly be laughing in his class, he always tells funny off-topic stories and they are quite entertaining. take him!!
not such an interesting class but he makes it fun.
He's so funny...you won't have any problem trying to stay awake. You will learn in this class without killing yourself studying or paying attention too hard. Short in-depth readings, tests are pretty easy if u review class readings
Dave is hilarious, but do NOT piss him off or you will suffer the wrath of Romanelli. Also, he won't remember your real name but you will have a nickname that will stick for life. Go to class, because he WILL notice.
I really do not know where to begin. All I know is that if you like working yourself to death and still don't mind the B's, then by all means, go ahead in taking the course. But I was sorely disappointed, and do not expect to get the grades you want.
nicknames not funny. chummy attitude toward students who've had him before smacks of favoritism. spends considerable time talking about his kids and the debate team--inhibits flow of class. unmerciful grader. personality okay otherwise; funny at times. might be preferable in social rather than academic setting.
No mercy in grading. Hated teaching persuasion and would let the class know on a daily basis. Convoluted tests and if you forget a insignificant detail on a paper, expect your grade to go down by a letter. Don't bother asking questions because he'll make you look stupid with his snooty attitude.
Just do exactly what he wants you to do and its a totally easy class. He does think he's funny, and mostly he is.
teacher is kool as****. some of the exams were kinda tough but not 2 bad. cmun 217 was a great class.
Don't bother taking his class if you don't have a sense of humor. He's very dry, and I was worried that he was going to be a jerk at first, but he warmed up and turned out to be a little teddy bear on the inside. The classes are boring, but in a funny way, if that makes any sense. Sort of a "what the hell are we doing here" type of feeling.
He's an ****. Not helpful outside of class. Only 4 tests and a 10 page paper with waaaay too much info. to cram into it. Not reccomended.
Hates teaching persuasion, funny guy but when it comes to class work, don't expect to feel prepared by him.
He's great, hilarious, dry sense of humor. His bark is worse than his bite...at first, you think he's going to be crusty, but he's so nice and friendly. Great teacher, really intelligent and knows his stuff. You can't BS your way around him, though. If you actually study, go to class and listen to his lectures, tests are more than fair.
This dude was a complete jackass. He was never available outside of class, and you didn't have a clue as to what he was speaking about. I would have rather put my tuition money towards taking a class from Helen Keller. Don't waste your money- this dude is ruthless and will kill your GPA. I attended all of the classes and turned in all the work
He has a sarcastic sense of humor, which only students who are fluent in sarcasm can appreciate. Your way to an A: -write down exactly what he says on each theorist, and write that on the exam (mostly short answer). -attendance. It's not a class you can skip if you feel like it. You need to hear those lectures to do well.
This guy is hysterical. Great sense of humor, although he comes off rough at first. Take notes, go to class, and read the book, and it's a breeze. It was one of my favorite classes this semester just because he was so entertaining.
Had him once for CMUN 160 and absolutely hated the guy, then i got stuck with him for CMUN 101 (public speaking) and it was a complete 180. He is one of the brightest and funniest teachers I've ever had at Loyola. I can honestly say his CMUN 101 is the reason why I have my job today.
He is one of the funniest and intelligent professors i have had. He knows his stuff and expects you to learn it too. If you go to class and pay attention there are no surprises on the test. Read the book and you'll be fine.
Most pompus man alive! thinks he and his fing debate team is all that exists in the world...everything and i mean everything comes back to his lame ass debate team...news flash no one cares!!!!do not take anythign from him if it can be avoided!
Great lecturer. Attendance is not mandatory but you need to take notes to do well on tests. All short answer but easy with notes. Read the book, he hates it when you come to class unprepared. Paper was tedious but not difficult because of his lectures. He's funny but does tend to talk about his kids/self a lot. One of my favorite professors.
what a great guy - he is hilarious - makes the class fun and interesting - come to class prepared and study for test (short answers) and you'll do fine - hope your not one of the kids he picks on though
I read the textbook for this class three times and still was unable to get higher than a D on any of his tests. I also felt mistreated and degraded.
AVOID THIS TEACHER!!! DON'T READ THE POSTINGS ON HERE. HE CREATES HIS OWN. He is very pompus man and he doesn't treat his students with respect. He doesn't respect me and I'm a girl. His homework doesn't count for anything and his tests are pathetic. they are worth 40 points...2 or 3 questions for 10 points and the rest 1 point...DONT TAKE HIM!!!!
i hated this class and i hated this teacher even more. dont take this guy
Alright Class. David is ok. If he was more into the class and didn't moan about how the students don't participate...it would have been better...Felt the test were very difficult and unfair...would have been better with some type of powerpoint.....overall...It was an ok class...teacher wasn't that great.
The negative comments on here are bull. Clearly those students don't understand his sense of humor. He's hilarious, very dry and sarcastic. He doesn't have a disrespect for anyone in the class, that's just his style. People need to cool it and learn how to take a joke and light banter, geeze. I learned a ton in this class. Definitely recommend.
Good one Romanelli. Yet again...another obvious post from the teacher. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID
This get Man is Amazing! His class is halarious and the only time that you get off topic is if the class started it or if the class doesn't answer a question but he alwasys tries to put the class back on track! Take HIM its a trip and he Gets you...plus he reads all of these and comments about it
Alright. There are clearly some extremely lazy people writing on here. Perhaps if people participated, he wouldn't have anything to complain about. Also, do you honestly need a POWERPOINT to take notes down? It's called listening. I learned so much in Romanelli's class. TAKE TAKE TAKE!!
So far I got a B, C+, and a B-. I only have one more speech left and an exam. As you could see, the grading is competitive. The professor is awesome. He is very funny, conversational, and helpful. Romanelli also eases you into being able to speak in front of people by putting you on the spot every class period, but I think it works. Take him!
Update: If you are not a good speaker, take his class. He grades very easy on other things, like outlines (40pts), paper (50pts), library hunt (50pts),and exams (200pts). Basically, if you are a bad speaker, 340pts is just a given. Plus, he is very understanding, as long as you are a normal student, like attending class, and being prepared.
excellent teacher! he was the only professor that did NOT put me to sleep. He was HILARIOUS and i don't laugh much at teachers. just do the readings, and participate a FEW TIMES, and you will do GREAT. you can miss a couples classes even, but make sure you get notes from a friend, because his tests are based off of his notes! AMAZING GUY!
The first few weeks of class I was convinced I was going to hate this class and this teacher. Then, somehow one day it all clicked and I understood how this guy works. He's ridiculously sarcastic and dry and tends to give people one word answers to avoid saying anything mean, but it's SO FUNNY. It's one of the only classes I have this semester wher
Professor Romanelli is a great teacher. You just have to get used to his personality. He has a very dry sense of humor. Make sure you participate in class, however, as he can be a little condescending when no one participates or says anything. Also if you take him make sure to go to class every day as he really clarifies what you read.
Didn't like him the first month. Tests aren't very hard, nor does he really grade the homework (you still get points). Go to class so all you have to do is study notes for the exams. In class, participate otherwise he refuses to teach until someone does. Really has become nicer to the class after the final dropping date passed. Overall pretty good.
I loved Mr. Romanelli! He was so funny and this seminar class was so helpful to knowing Loyola if you are a freshman. He knows a lot about succeeding in college
WORST CLASS AT LOYOLA! Teacher is condescending arrogant and boring lectures. do yourself a favor and take if you are in dire need to kill ur grade.
dont take
The WORST professor that I have EVER had and I am a senior! He is pompous, arrogant, rude and annoying. He does not care about his students and is more concerned about telling stories about how great he is. He grades based on how he is feeling that day and tends to grade very difficult on his tests. DO NOT TAKE HIM! Trust me!
Class was fun and easy at first. However, it got more complicated with more theories covered. Romanelli was funny and laid back but sometimes can come off as rude. Office hours were pointless. He was decent though. Not a terrible option to take as a professor.
I loved Romanelli's class! He was sarcastic, funny, insightful, opinionated, engaging, and taught you a lot without even realizing you learned anything at all. His class was very valuable and I suggest you take it if you're interested in learning about communication!
If you have a sense of humor, you will love him. He's random & very sarcastic, but it offers entertainment to a dry subject. You definitely need to read/do the homework to keep up. He likes to relate the readings to personal stories or modern things (Harry Potter is a popular one). If you don't like sarcasm, don't take the class; otherwise, ENJOY.
The good: he's pretty entertaining most of the time and he knows what he's talking about. You can also get a ton of easy points in that class. The bad: Isn't helpful at all if you approach him outside of class. Very condescending for someone teaching a BS subject.
As a person, he is funny and sarcastic with good stories. As a professor he is terrible. I have been to ever class, I take notes, read the book, and still am getting a bad grade. Office hours don't help much either. It may just be me, but I think he has a lot to do with why am I failing. He's alright to take, but if you have a choice don't take him
Worst class I've taken at Loyola. He is sarcastic and not as funny as he thinks he is. The material is boring and he doesnt do anything to make it better... he talks way too much. tests are all based on notes... with good notes theyre easy tests, but its hard in class to decide what notes to take...
Romanelli is very funny and entertaining, however, this class is very challenging, as a freshman i felt overwhelmed. The material is really difficult and he grades harsh on papers and tests. Attendance is really important-notes from lectures are necessary for tests. Honestly i recommend a different professor if you want to both learn and do well.
Hilarious guy. CMUN 175 was my favorite class this semester. Engaging and I looked forward to going.
Really awesome guy, terrible class. He's hilarious if you appreciate dark, dry, pessimistic humor. His directions for assignments are always mindblowingly vague, though, which makes getting a good grade kinda difficult. Tests come straight from the book, so buy it, read it, and love it. Just do everything according to the text and you'll do fine.
This guy is great. He has a really strong personality, but i love it. He's really dry, sarcastic but he knows what he's talking about. He grades kinda hard but he gives you chances for extra credit. Have to do 10 homework assignments, midterm, final and 8-10 page paper. The stuff we cover in class is really interesting.
Hilarious. He uses humor to engage students, witty, if you're intelligent enough to pickup on it.Typically 1 long paper for his classes, clear instructions, 3 exams broken up in 5 chapters ea. Given opportunities to ask questions THROUGHOUT semester about final paper.Persuasion is an amazing class and David R. is a god among men. Plus hot coco
Don't understand the comments on here. He's hilarious, a bit sarcastic, but crystal clear with what he expects from students. Even though class was at 8:30 it kept me awake. Tests are difficult but there are lots of opportunities for free points (10 short case studies, 2 emails, 2 memos, an interview, small group project, and 3 exams not cum.)
If you like structure in your classes do not take Romanelli. The assignments were graded harshly even though he was never clear about exactly what he wanted. He would not offer us resources to reference in order to become more clear about assignment expectations. I NEVER KNEW WHAT TO STUDY FOR TESTS
Sweet project! Go to class. Read only what he lectures on from the book. Tests are in blue books
arrogant, condescending. makes generalizations about students. discursive lectures. i am a cynic myself but this man crossed the line--he is bitter to the point of plain unplesantness. personality contradicts the material he teaches. I like the group project but not the lectures. do not expect a good grade on anything.
I enjoyed the class. It helped improve my public speaking confidence a lot and organization a little more. A no-nonsense guy. Always come 5 min early, brownie points for if a deadline later. Asks about obscure specific things he referenced in lectures, write whatever examples he uses, it will be on the test. Gum and tardiness are a sins.
Extremely cynical? Check. He expects a lot because he believes his students are capable of handing in good work. He is very vague as to what he wants but grades as if he handed out specific outlines. This professor is very smart and pushes students abilities. He is uncomfortable to approach and not as helpful as he should be for this type of class.
Romanelli is very detached and has explicitly stated in class several times that he does not care. He is not concerned about our success in the class and his irritated/angry attitude discourages participation in class and makes him very unapproachable. Tests were absurdly hard and over content that was not taught in class. Would not take again
worst class ive ever taken. disrespectful, condescending, yells at students before even letting them finish a thought. isnt clear about what he wants and grades too harshly. He thinks he is better than everyone else and treats students very poorly as if were punching bags. do not take his class
Definitely a great class if you're an auditory learner. If you can concentrate basically the entire time you're in class and take notes, the class barely requires you to do any work outside. Would definitely take his class again, as he goes beyond textbook material and really makes you think about how comm applies to the real world
to this day I still have so many questions about this man. He is very funny and will have the most interesting lectures. If you don't get his sense of humor then you won't like this class, however I met some of my best friends in this class just over the shared experience. The tests are not too bad as long as you take notes and understand terms.
AVOID! Learned so little and mostly felt disrespected. Treats students like dirt & disguises cruelty as humor. His teaching's worse. Gives harsh, unhelpful feedback on SUPER subjective prompts. He's smart, but mad condescending about it. States opinions as fact, acts hostile to students who question them, discouraging participation & crit. thinking
Tests are vague and poorly designed. Harsh grader. Material feels deliberately confusing and the professor is grumpy and not at all helpful. Comes off as self-absorbed and crass. Likes to talk about himself a lot. Would not recommend.
If getting an A matters, skip this guy. He's a BS grader. Talks about how criteria is so important but never gave a rubric- then freely takes points off. Feedback is not helpful. He's lazy and incompetent at teaching. His teaching is him talking. No powerpoints or guides. This makes studying extremely hard like his exams. He sucks- don't take him.
Professor Romanelli's lectures are all over the place. He always goes on long tangents and makes his test extremely hard. There are not that many assignments in the class so if you fail one test you won't do well in the class. He is also an extremely tough grader and even though his material is on "small group comm" he barely lets his students talk
He is the worst teacher at Loyola. I've had him twice and regret it so much, but he's the only option to take for most comm major requirements. You have very few assignments but his tests are the hardest and stupidest tests in the world. It's a pandemic & he makes us takes tests on a blue book with no content on how to study for them.
Awful. I was so put off my Romanelli and his lack of effort. He just reads out of the text book and never uses class time wisely. Exams are INSANELY hard and most students do not do well on them. The homework is easy and is the only reason I will be passing the class. I do not recommend him.
- Very condescending and his criteria for a class assignment not clear. - Lectures were him just reading the textbook and he would always talk about something random every couple of minutes. - Rude and sarcastic - Made me feel disrespected and discouraged me from asking questions in class. If you have a choice, don't take him.
His personality aside, the structure of the class made no sense. We only did one project, and there were no regular check ins to assess how we were demonstrating the concepts we were learning in class in our groups. Exams are not the most effective way to teach the content for this class; learning through experience would be much more effective.
Super fun guy to be around, but the tests were extremely difficult. This class felt strangely technical for a class in the school of comm. Weekly assignments were a great way to learn the content, but the lectures often fell flat. Not the worst class but would not take again.
If you have options, don't take him, he gives cold calls and acts rude to students on several ocasions, his lectures don't make sense a lot of times and for a begginer level class he graded speeches extremely heavy. His humor is also odd. If he picks you as a target at the start of the semester, don't expect a grade higher than B.
Worst professor I had in the school of communication and Loyola. Rude, dismissive, and outright disrespectful to students. Most useless and obscure textbook homework and exams. Strange grader with no or vague rubrics on assignments, but takes off random points. Only highlight is the group project. If you can take literally anyone else, you should!
Take notes on EVERYTHING he says during lecture especially examples/stories he associates with terms and theories. Study the key terms from the chapters and review notes closely before exams. Participate in class and get on his good side. Really knowledgable guy but goes through material very quickly, don't hesitate to stop him and ask questions.
Like him as a person but not as a professor. No lecture slides, and he just talks in circles so it's hard to determine what's actually important, and what's not. Only good thing is none of the assignments are weighted, so if you do bad on an exam it shouldn't hurt you too much.
This class was a drag. The prof is interesting and comical but the class can just feel boring. There are in class debates, which for an introvert like me i actually hated. He was not good on late work or absences, taking i joined the class late and got 0s on assignments i missed cuz i was not enrolled in it yet. Nice guy but would not take again.
