Short homework assignments, which MUST be done and ATTENDANCE is important
He is realllly easy, his homeworks are very short, tests are so easy, but he take attendence very seriously. HE is a very cool guy. I rate him 100% on everything.
Great class, one of the easiest at s. john's.
I had professor Rosenthal for the last 3 years of High School,it was a great pleasure to be in his class.
this guy does not know what he is teaching, tests are not bad, attendance is important
pretty fair and teaches at a good pace...attendence is key!!!
tests are a little hard, but if you review you will do fine.
Show up and do your hw and u get an A. Tests are ridiculously easy. Tell me a math professor who has half of their tests multiple choice. Had him for two semesters and got an A in both.
arrite, he is so cool. he is a really understanding smile, and doesn't make calculus intimidating. quizzes every friday, attendance wasnt taken. reviews for tests. and if you talk to him after class he can relate to you like nothing else and is just so helpful. he reminds me of my friend from HS. <3
def take him
ok, i hate this teacher. What to do: he's easygoing, but dont screw up an exam,ez quizes. I dont like him, cuz he says he'll give E.C and he doesn't. He said the final will help u, but he makes it tricky. Stat is not my class and i tried my best...but he gives u fake hope.that's why I HATE HIM!!
This guy really cant teach. he'd like to think hes hot but nah hes not. hes easy if u rd the book and juss ace his tests/quizzes which aren't too hard. he overstresses unimportant things and his tests are different types of questions. juss rd da book and do the hw and ur set.
He's really nice and he really cares about helping students. His quizzes are really good. Do the hw, and you're ok
I can't believe how anyone can badmouth him. First off, his tests are beyond easy. I didn't do a single homework an got 90+ on every test. Even if you dont understand the material, he was always there to help regardless of how simple the problem was. He is a great teacher.
Great professor, explains everything completely and clearly. Takes a very easy appraoch to calc and is very helpful for those who don't understand the material. Will go over every homework problem if needed and tests come from the homework with different numbers. Highly recommended.
he doesn't drop test grades, there are tests as well as quizes which help boost up ur grade. no graphin calculator allowed, but he teaches at a good pace and is very nice. would take him again.
HE IS PRETTY HOT!!! He is a great teacher because he understands math is tough, even for math majors. He helps you if you need it. MUST TAKE!!!
i love this professor. He is a MUST take!
he is an excellent professor........teaches really well but a bit of a pace is required......
This guy is the truth...defintely take him if you need to take a math class.
very clear. knows what hes talking about. tests and quizes are manageable. as long as you do the homework, you should get an A
Great professor, quizzes and tests are completely managable. hw is definetely wat is on the tests and quizzes. class is boring but u should show up so you at least have an idea wat ur doing, you probably wont get by unless u go to the class and pay attention.i would retake him
His exams are ridiculously easy (just go to class so you know what's coming). He's a bit scattered in his teaching style & def not as rigid as other prof, but that's prob cause he's a math-genius. He will explain everything a 100 times & he's completely approachable. If you don't follow, just use the text. An easy A as long as you don't screw up...
very nice guy and very good prof. didnt like the class in the begining but near the end was super easy and he was so helpful. should not recieve anything lower then a B, unless you just dont go!
hes a down to earth professor, as long as you go to his class, you fine because his exams are bascilly what he goes over in class. he helpful, just ask and he will help you. take him if u have a choice.
He is a math genius! Very bright guy. Calc IV is of course naturally very difficult but he made it the slightest bit understandable. He is very approachable, just go to office hours. Friendly guy and very helpful! Give's quizes that help level out your test grades. Take him!
one of the nicest teachers around. loved his class. explains things well and is willing to answer any questions.
dude is one of the best teachers.. all he cares is if ur on the right track with ur work hw, and 3 exams, plus extra credit.. straight A. great teacher
he makes sure that you get more than you deserve....very good professor.......extremely easy and makes calculus understandable to everyone in class...you have to be a moron to fail in his class....take any of his class right away
He's the nicest guy! He makes sure u understand the material and grades very lightly. He gives a lot of partial credit. If the class does poorly on a test on a particular section he gives everyone a second chance to do better on that section. He's the best! Take him!

Rosenthal is quite the hottie - makes me blush all the time in class, even when he has his back turned to the class and then there's his smile... I don't see a wedding band on either hand for some odd reason. Very wonderful professor. Pay attention in class; MUST DO THE HOMEWORK!! and get an A.
He's so nice! Probably one of the most helpful math teachers I've ever had. He's very helpful and makes sure that you understand the material. HW is not mandatory, but I suggest you do some of the problems to make sure you know your stuff. Don't buy the textbook, borrow from someone or photocopy. A little fast-paced so keep up!
Dr.Rosenthal is one of the best math teacher your going to find. He actually teaches math and has a real passion for it. He really cares about you understanding the concepts, more than finding the answer. He is very approchable and helpful. Just do the hw he assigns and you should do fine.
He's great and helpful- the best but he's not easy. You have to work to get an A. highly recommended
Don't think twice, Just take him. Easy guy, approachable, he's a definitely a math genius, without expecting you to be one, the greatest professor ever!!!
A great professor. He's like the ying, to math's yang. Extremely helpful, as well as an amazing person. You have to work to get a good grade, however its amazing how he teaches. Don't think twice, just take him, you'll be one of the lucky ones.
I'm sorry this guy is not easy and not the 4+ rating everyone has perceived him to be on here. He gives a fair share of HW but it isnt a help because the tests are 10 times harder. Avoid this professor at all costs necessary, you'll be happy you did!
He is an awesome prof. Obviously you cant expect a nice grade without working for it.. and he does make you work for it. But he helps you a lot in the process.. A very nice guy.. very approachable. Just do the Hw, ask questions and go to class and pay attention.. you should be fine
An excellent professor who knows a lot about math. This guy is like a math wizard. He is very approachable and wants students to do well. Explains the materials very clearly. Gives bonus quiz/assignment to help boost your grade. Highly recommended for those who wants to learn. Trust me!!!
This prof is really great! he gives a quiz almost every week but it's always pretty simple. he has 2 exams and a final...gives extra credit, all u need to do is go over the HW he assigns and u will be fine. the HW arent mandatory. he is very nice and funny too! take him if u can, he is one of the few good math profs..esp for business math
Without a doubt one of the better math professors in the entire university. He makes an at times difficult subject clear. You have to work for your grade obviously, but Prof. Rosenthal will be helping you every step of the way. Take him without a second thought, you'll regret it if you get stuck with one of the less adequate professors here!
I had taken Bartz and had to drop her class. Learned the same exact stuff and got an A. Rosenthal is the best math professor at St. Johns university. Gives 3 tests and 4 quizes. All are easy. he goes over the quizes right BEFORE you take it and the tests have review sheets. Easy class and keeps you instrested 90% of the time.
he's nice and gives a lot of notes. you may get sidetracked from what he's saying because you're copying his prolific notes. but he's great. get one on one tutoring with him also. he's really good.
AHH! Dr. Rosenthal is the BEST! Calc isn't easy but Dr. Rosenthal is always ready to help and he's such a great guy. We had 6 quizzes (like 3-4 takehome) and 3 exams.. he's an extremely nice grader. I definitely recommend him! Actually got me enthusiastic about math! I can see why his classes get filled up so quick, overall great teacher!
The class if tough, especially if you haven't taken calc or pre-calc but he is really helpful. He is always willing to help students outside of class. He's an easy grader and assigns take home quizzes to bring your grade up. There are 6 quizzes, two exams, and a final. He posts practice exams online for each test. Take him if you can.
hes a great professor, very helpful and an extremely fair grader. make sure you come to class and do the homework or else you will be totally lost but even if you are lost there is a very low chance that you will fail. hes cute too
Dr. Rosenthal is Captain America - listen to his voice! He is helpful and clear. You would be surprised at how easy math can really be.
he's an okay professor. no notes though jus a whole bunch of examples. he does help if you need it. not an easy class. he's ok, not hot
The course is really not that difficult and he is clear and let's you know what he expects of you. Doesnt check attendence but you should go if you don't want to be lost. I failed both midterms but I was able to get a 70 on the final and so I got a C- for the course. You should take him if you can. Study and Im sure you can get an A.
Hes a cool guy...horrible professor. The class is easy if u took calc before but if u didnt prepare to teach ur self or go to tutoring. His quizzes and tests are simple and straight forward. Usually gives sample tests before to help you out.
The class is a breeze if you've taken AP Calc before. But if the material is new to you, go to his office hours. He may not seem approachable in class but once you go to office hours, he'll help you out and take you through everything step by step. Attendance is not mandatory. 2 tests, some quizzes (drops 1) and a final. He's a cool guy.
Rosenthal is the kindest professor ever. He gives a lot of examples which help a lot and his exams are do-able if you keep up with your work. He provides help when needed. Very sweet man! Does give homework often, about 3-4 quizzes, two exams, and one final
He is such a sweetheart. Two tests, six quizzes the lowest of which is dropped, and the final. If you don't do well in the beginning but show improvement, he really takes that into consideration. Pretty much what you get on the final is your grade. Always willing to sit down with you and explain things.
The Hottest professor ever... Very clear! you will love him by the end of the semester. Gets excited when he teaches and has a sweet sense of humor
This guy deserves an award for being a fair professor who genuinely cares about his students. He explains calculus conceptually so you understand math beyond a formula you have to know. He explains why the formula is such and such. I would definitely take him if I were you. His hw and class is to help you although they arent mandatory.
If you haven't taken calculus before you will definitely struggle with the material because it is all new to you and a lot of information. However, Dr. Rosenthal is the sweetest man alive and is more than welcome to help you with anything you need. It gets confusing at times but just try to focus and watch lots of videos online, they really help!
He's very passionate about what he does. He's a good prof, but it helps if you took calc before. He doesn't take attendance, hw isn't mandatory but it helps. Do the review sheets, they help a lot. Grade consists of about 5 quizzes, 2-3 tests, and a final. The quizzes weigh more than the tests.
He knows how to teach and gives it to you straight. Lectures can get boring, but they're very useful with tests and quizzes. Also always willing to help when you need it, but he's a wiz at teaching. Favorite professor for this semester. Don't skip class or you won't know how to do the problems! Fun guy, too. Gave us candy for Halloween, too!
This guy's really cool, glad I'm taking him for stats. He's really passionate about his job and math. Def recommend
Amazing professor! I really enjoyed being in his class! Attendance isn't mandatory. Going to his office hours really helps & shows you care. Pretty fair grader. Stats is tough, but he made it as easy as he could. 5 quizzes, drops 1. Final is cumulative. Gives extra credit if the class needs it. Very funny guy. Definitely would recommend him!
Awesome professor explains everything thoroughly. If you don't pay attention in class or take notes you're not passing. TAKES NOTES AND PAY ATTENTION. he's super nice and helps you understand everything. TAKE HIM!!
So I pretty much *heart* this guy and am so glad to have taken him for stats. The lessons get tougher and tougher (toward the end I was pretty lost), but he breaks stuff down for you and is willing to help on- and off-campus (e-mail). His love for math is evident, and he makes it an enjoyable class. I wish more professors were like him!
Dr. Rosenthal really knows his stuff. This is one professor who will never trip himself up and therefore he is the perfect math professor. He really gets into the theory of math and explains himself very well. All in all he's a fairly generous grader and if you pay attention you'll be fine. Homework is optional, I did no homework and got an A.
Great teacher, really good at breaking down the complexities of Calculus and making it easy to learn, quizzes and tests are very straight forward and always makes sure that you're prepared for them. Lectures are really light, fun, and entertaining especially considering the subject matter
He is a legend
Dr. Rosenthal is simply the man. He gives "practice" quizzes and exams. They are basically identical to the actual quiz or exam. Yes it is easy to get an A, but more so he truly explains things in ways one can understand. If you don't understand, do not hesitate to ask. He loves getting into more detail to make you understand. Favorite teacher.
Taking Calc in St. John's? Choose this man right here. He has no certain accent and explains very well. He is the MATH GOD. NO HOMEWORK. ONLY TWO TESTS. ONLY FIVE QUIZZES. A MIRACLE.. Love this guy.
THE GOAT. Homework optional. Only a few quizzes. He emphasizes growth, so if you do better through the semester he factors that into your grade. He's such a cool guy. Class is boring but it's calculus. He's really smart and knows the material WELL. Go to his office if you need help and he will work with you. Really awesome guy
He is amazing. His class lecture is very understandable, you can go to him during office hours. He gives out handouts that give you more practice on the topics. HW is optional so dont really need textbook, will go over problems in class. Very funny and gives topics and practice problems for exam/quiz.
Entertaining, funny, and caring. A great professor, especially for math. Knows his stuff. Gives homework occasionally and quizzes not tests. Well organized and an excellent pick as your math professor. Super sweet when grading as well.
The class was enjoyabe, but it was easy to zone out. Learned a lot of interesting material, and would not be upset if I took him again. Not hard to succeed in class.
Great teacher and personality. Learned a lot in class, but it was easy to zone out since i wasnt so interested in the sports part of the class but more the analytics. Would take again and recommend for any subject.
I unofficially withdrawed from the course but it wasn't because of Rosenthal, I just wasn't used to a 7pm class. He's one of the best choices for math in general. Homework from the textbook, plenty of effective practice worksheets, and decent lectures. He helps you plenty to make sure you're passing and easy accessible outside of class.
Calc II certainly isnt an easy class. If you have no outside knowledge of it, this is not the professor for you. He explains things really fast but always provides the reasoning behind it. Hes a brilliant man even though mostly he only talks about math. Two tests, 4 (2 question) quizzes (really easy), skills drill (free 5% on avg), and a final.
Class was difficult but he is very clear on what will be on quizzes and tests and drops the lowest quiz. Always ready to spend extra time to help anyone and makes the class as interesting as calculus can be!
I went into the classs not remembering much from calc 1, it was a bit of a hard transition, the math center and his office hours helped. 2 skills drills, 4 quizzes, 2 tests and a final. All he talks about is math but makes it intersting. I really enjoyed the class and would reccomend, calc 2 is a hard class in general but he makes it enjpyable.
Dr. Rosenthal was a great teacher for Calc 2. His style of teaching just made things seem easier than they actually are, and he makes sure to spend more time on harder topics. You're only graded on a few tests and quizzes, but he is always available for office hours if you do need extra help.
This teacher is stupid, he talks too much about nothing important. He could not explain anything, he shouldn't teach!
This Professor suppose to be good, not when I took calc 2. He didn't do a good job, he talks about sports, he needs to teach! I got lost, though I had always A's in math all my life.
HES AMAZING! The most understanding professor at sju. So sweet! Attendance not mandatory. You're graded by 4 tests (less than 20 questions each: two attempts EASY he gives you an optional practice exam that is exactly like the test), HW 5-7 questions MAX, 5 problem sets (manageable), like 5 discussion post in total for the semester(open-ended).
HYBRID CLASS; HES AMAZING! most understanding professor at sju. So sweet! Attendance not mandatory. You're graded by 4 tests (less than 20 questions each: 2 attempts EASY he gives you an optional practice exam that is exactly like the test), HW 5-7 ques MAX, 5 problem sets (manageable), like 5 discussion post in total for the semester(open-ended).
Had this as an asynchronous class and it was an easy A. H assigns homework questions through lumen, and a weekly discussion post (nothing heavy... at all). TAKE HIM. I think we had 4 tests plus a final. You can look up anything you need to, and there are videos alongside the practice questions. He's also available thru office hrs.
Very easy class. Homework and weekly discussions due a week after they are assigned. Gives you two attempts for each hw question and 99 similar questions. Three exams, a midterm and a final. All are 2 attempts per question and 2 attempts per exam. There is also practice tests before each exam, but half the questions do not appear on exams.
Great professor and very thorough with his explanation. Hes always available for extra help. As long as you pay attention and review his things, assignments and tests are very easy.
Not terrible for a hard class. He is very knowledgeable on all of the topics and explains everything very thoroughly. There are a lot of assignments (all online) but they are typically short and relatively easy. Three tests and a final which were all online. A couple of discussion posts and some written work, but nothing to worry about.
Professor Rosenthal is extremely nice and understanding. He knows that math is not everyone's strongsuit and teaches so that everyone can understand it. You get multiple tries on the homework assignments, he gives late passes, and practice tests before every exam. Multiple quizzes(individual and group, 3 exams, one final)
Great professor, and had a great time in his class. Was always understanding, and great at teaching.
Course is about proofs. Graded on 3 short quizzes and a take-home final. He provides a review sheet always (pulls questions straight from the review sheet). Gives 2-3 homeworks per month. Some questions can be hard, but he gives class time to go through it together and encourages you to work with friends. Not strict on late submissions.
Homework due every week, but you have many attempts to finish. Test is basically based on homework. He is very easy and caring. Take him if you can!!!!
Amazing professor for Calculus III. Highly recommend for anyone taking the class. Easy course in part due to fairly lenient course design and grading policy, but also because the lecture is really easy to comprehend. Short online homework, short quizzes (sometimes in a group), tests reflect the material taught and practice tests are given early.
Highly recommend Professor Rosenthal for Calculus 3 or any math class for that matter. Lectures are clear and his explanations are very helpful in understanding some of the more difficult concepts. The homework is fair. His feedback on assignments was very useful when preparing for exams or quizzes.
Dr. Rosenthal has been the head of my major for three years and has always been the most helpful and informative administrator at St. Johns University. I finally got the opportunity to experience him as a professor for Calc 3. Not only is an amazing professor, but more importantly he is a great man who genuinly cares about his students success.
Dr. Rosenthal is a wonderful professor and even better person, not only does he care about his class and students but he strives to give everyone outside of classroom opportunities as well where you can use stuff you learned in class. Can redo assignments for more credit and quizzes are takehome but still a bit challenging. MTH3340
