helpful, some of his jokes are funny
he is a very good prof and is clear in his lectures. he is byfar one of the better profs in the chem 250 section. strongly reccomended. this is a very difficult class so don't expect to get a high mark just because you have a good prof. work hard!!!
very nice prof but very unsympathetic. failed the class with a 49%
this is a hard class but by far one of the best profs.
Great teacher. Helpful and interesting
Dr. Sanders... what a guy. Easy to understand and teaches some pretty good material for this course. Would have to say he's not quite as forgiving on his midterms as the other profs of this course, though.
Not an easy class, but not impossible to get a high mark. Don't get behind ever! Definitely the best prof tho, makes things very easy to understand, i went to three different sections for the first week and this guy was the best. His jokes can be cheesy but funny.
Thinks he's funnier than he is - Makes fun of students and isn't open to helping them.
The best prof you'll find. He summarizes the text book really well, he's funny, and he gives lots of examples. Directs you toward questions in your text that are on the mid-term. It's been the only class I enjoyed going to this term, and I got a higher mark than Chem 112 on the midterm.
Does a good job of summarizing the text but confusing at the same time.
Sanders is an excellent prof, but not the best. Chem 250 is one of those classes which if you are good at chem, you'll do fine and if you suck at chem, don't expect a good mark. But if you really put in the effort...especially for the final, expect to see it pay off.
Really hard class but Sanders is a GREAT teacher, who knows his stuff really well and does great delievery in the classroom. If only I had him for 115...
A funny guy and good organic chem prof. He summarizes the book well and gives good examples. A little lazy about problem sets and tutorial questions. Overall, a good prof.
CUTE!!!!! Funny, too. To bad he's already married.
Colonel Saunders should have cooked chicken over at KFC.
Probably the best chem prof in the department. Very clear in all his explanations. He's sarcastic--borderline rude at times--but he makes the class fun and you actually understand what he's saying. Highly recommended.
If all Chem classes were taught by Dr. Sanders, Chem would be my major... He is an excellent prof. He uses an overhead to project his notes, so you always know what you should write down. He always has funny stories to share. If his section doesn't fit into your schedule, I highly recommend you rearrange your schedule to fit his section in!
An excellent chemistry professor. Very clear, organized, funny, enjoyable, gratifying and accomplishing class. Too bad I missed so many lectures because there is so much to be gained in his classes. He is very approachable and helpful by effectively answering any problems. I recommend taking his class. It would be a mistake not to honestly.

Hard class. He is probably one of the best teachers for it though. Don't take Chem 250 unless you absolutely have to. Tests are written between all professors, so it doesn't really matter who you have, but Sanders was very clear and funny and relatively enjoyable to learn from.
Awesome prof. Notes actually cover everything needed for exams and the textbook actually isn't too bad of a read if you don't mind chem.
Very nice man, little inappropriate at times. Very helpful. Wants you to do well. He even comes to the labs and walks around.
wicked awesome prof.
This guy is a riot! The class is pretty tough because there's lots of material, but he explains really really well. You're screwed if you don't go to class, and he makes it worth going to.
Sanders is great! He's really funny which keeps you interested in the class. He can be a little tricky on the exams but he is very upfront about what he expects you to know. Make sure you go to class or you will get behind!
Good prof.
Excellent Prof.............................
Dr Sanders is a superb professor who has a great sense of humour and makes Ochem interesting and relevent. He also comes to the labs and ensures his students understand what they are doing. Easily one of the most helpful, fun and knowledgeable profs I've had. Take Ochem with Dr. Sanders, put in some effort and you will understand the course content
Excellent and nice prof....
Wonderful prof. Go to class as the textbook isn't as helpful for reactions/mechanisms later in the semester and he's funny! Keeps class interesting & I never fell asleep. Ask him questions/use his office hours! He's incredibly helpful outside of class/in labs. Test questions are fair but you need to know your stuff!
I don't know what other o. chem profs are like, but I going to assume that Sanders is the best introductory prof you could get. He makes chemistry as funny as possible. This was honestly one of my favorite classes to go to. He also stops by during labs to answer questions, and is very easy to talk to, although he occasionally pokes fun at students
Excellent organic chem prof. I hate organic chem but Dr. Sanders makes it MUCH more enjoyable because he is very enthusiastic, uses great examples and writes everything out on the board. Very open to questions, always in his office for help, and very willing to help. He is hilarious, humor makes the class 200 times better. UofS best o-chem prof
I LOVE Ochem and if possible I love Sanders more! Very approachable in his office hours and really clarifying on tricky topics that lots of students have issues with.
No matter if you like organic chemistry or not; Professor Sanders make it enjoyable for you. lectures are truly more like stand up comedy shows; that makes you go to each lecture to listen to this hilurious man. He explains every thing clearly and makes sure you understand the concepts. Much recommended; He is the best organic chemistry teacher.
This is by far the hardest course i've taken. Content is not beyond comprehension. However, the enormity of different reactions make sorting things out mentally very challenging. All I can say is once you get past the midterm, review reaction notes daily. David is amazing. Funny, patient, and smart. The triple combo. Helped me constantly.
Exams are fair for the most part. Hilarious lecturer making it easier to sit through Organic Chem. He misses a lot of little steps that tie material together so get a tutor or find a chem app/video site ASAP. Take advantage of tutorials set up outside of class by him or Janice Holmes. Makes a HUGE difference. Not the worst chem class out there
Really hard class but Sanders is a GREAT prof! He is really funny & teaches very well. Midterm was ok but the final was brutal. Get a really good mark in the labs to help boost your grade. He also gave out bonus marks for small assignments, take advantage of them!!! I really dislike chem (especially after 112 & 115) but this was a bearable class.
If you have to take this class I would recommend taking it with Sanders. He is super helpful and actually wants to help you get good grades. He is super approachable if you need help and makes a much dreaded class fun to be in. I had a few friends come to my class even though they weren't in my section because they liked his teaching better.
Dr. Sanders made a class that many dread quite bearable. He is hilarious, and lectures passed by quickly. He has extended office hours before the midterm and the final that I found very useful. He's easily approachable and always willing to help. The final was tough, keep up with the post-midterm material to ease some stress.
The class itself is difficult but Sanders makes it as simple as the course will allow. He knows the content but at times, he simplifies it too much for me to understand. However, he is very approachable and is willing to help you whenever you need it. Bonus: he keeps the class entertained through humour.
Sanders is the best prof I've had in my university career. He truly does care about students and ensures that he can do everything he needs to in order to help YOU succeed.
Everyone knows this class is a ridiculous level of hard, but Dr. Sanders made it way more bearable! He 100% knows what he's talking about, throws in fun bonus questions during lectures, and also provides real life examples to help balance out the boring stuff. He's great and I'm thankful I had him!
Typical dad jokes, really cares about the material and relates it in a good way to students
He is the man.
10/10 so great. The difficulty of chem 112 is mostly out of his control as the profs make the exams together, but if you listen he will help you gain a basic understanding so that you can reach the level you need to for exam. Honestly hated chem 112, but his jokes were too good to miss. He will make you want to go to chem. By far the funniest prof
He is a mixture (ha, pun-intended) between funny and brilliant. His lectures are smooth and subtle. If you haven't taken his classes yet, you're missing out. I would recommend him ten times out of ten.
Great Prof! Kept Lectures easy to understand and has a sense of humour to boot! Would recommend taking his class if have the chance!
Very hard class. Seems easier to memorize the material then learn it. Goes through lots of examples, write all the notes in class.
Extremely humorous, he does a great job of keeping the classes attention while delivering lectures efficiently.
The class is fairly hard but Sanders is the best Chem 112 prof if you can get him do it.
Tough class but if you have a choice definitely take it with Sanders. Pretty funny guy and very easy to approach. Warning: if you have a high class average on the mid-term, they will make the final VERY difficult. Like, way harder than the practice finals you are given to study.
He is a really great proof. He tries really hard to explain everything clearly and simplify tough concepts. He is good at answering questions and helping you understand. He is funny and his lectures are enjoyable.
Jokes are kind of crude, but hilarious none the less. Don't need to take notes, just bring your textbook and a highlighter. Beware: if you leave class early, wave goodbye, or be taunted.
Dr. Sanders has changed the way I look at chemistry. This was the second time I took Chem 112, had Brown the first time, and it was literally night and day difference!! He keeps the class entertaining and I would definitely recommend him for Chem 112! Also very approachable both inside and outside of the classroon
Sanders was a great professor. He made lectures fun and concepts easier to understand by adding humor to his lectures. He was accessible outside of class and very friendly. He went through a lot of examples during lectures which was helpful.
Sanders is a great prof. He occasionally makes some mistakes when going through examples, which can be extremely confusing on certain topics, but in general, he explains the material clearly. He likes to crack jokes in class which can make the class easier to sit through.
AWESOME! Best chem prof ever, get this class with him, he is fantastic. Nicest guy ever and is super funny. Midterm was somewhat difficult but final was easy thanks to him being a great prof.
BEST PROF EVER. He was super engaging and very approachable. Also, he knew chem would be hard for many people so he tried to make the material covered in class as simple as possible. he even told us the questions from the textbook that may help with exam practice, which made the material tad bit easier.
The only reason I went to chem was because prof Sanders was hilarious, brightened up my morning! Good prof, chem is a hard subject and he recognizes that, and is available to help out whenever.
Tough class but Sanders tries to teach students patterns for the mechanisms. He advocates for not memorizing and I came out with a 77 without memorizing but truely learning the course. Bonus questions in class, take notes of his examples during class for studying later as they are not included in slides. New textbook is great, minus some errors.
Chem 112 is a hard class plain and simple, but having David Sanders as a prof makes it manageable and engaging. He works hard to help all of the students understand the concepts. In class he makes jokes, and relates content to practical application. 10/10 prof, other chem profs should take notes from him.
David is an okay professor and tries to make class fun. However, we did barely any examples in class and the take homes that he gives you often omit important information to do the question. He would often make mistakes on examples in class which caused some confusion. He goes through lecture slides pretty fast but posts them online after class.
this prof is probably one of my favourite! he loves his job and tries to include humour. but if your not paying attention he will call out out for it ( if you ask a stupid question)
Have been out of high school for 6 years, the main reason I gave this class a 5 on the difficulty scale. - Professor Sanders is a very nice guy, great at the "dad jokes". His teaching style was not for me. He primarily reads off of slides, rarely does written examples on the board with the class. Learned most of the material by myself.
Sanders isn't a bad prof, goes over all subject manner but at times can simplify too much and assumes you understand already. Don't take this class if you need someone who will walk through examples on the board every class, make sure to keep up with content
Didnt care for Sanders in 112 but loved him in 250. Must go to class as he draws examples on board but explains things very well. Good mark booster class, midterm final and labs were relatively easy
Very funny prof uses humor to explain difficult concepts, and will not move onto a new mechanism or concept until he's sure everyone understands. There is no doubt this is an extremely hard class, but prof. Sanders makes it bearable.
I took Chem 112 with him as well and it was a little difficult but the prof makes it worth it. When I went into Chem 250 he made it enjoyable because he shows that he loves to teach. Even if you ask stupid questions He will take the time to explain things that dont make sense. I love that in a prof. He wants you to succeed.
First off, he's got a great humour. He makes class engaging and explains most things step by step. Although you do not need to attend lectures because he provides his slides, I suggest that you do. He does examples in class which can be similar to the assignments. Speaking of, the class CHEM 112 has weekly assignments and the lab is quite heavy.
In actual "in person" lectures he's awesome. But with the COVID 19 situation, this guy straight up didn't make online lectures for us and literally got us to watch lecture capture from a DIFFERENT prof from a previous year. Absolute next level laziness and a huge kick in the face to the whole class. If it wasn't for that, I would say he's amazing.
He's a mediocre prof online. He didn't even teach all of the modules, he got the other chem profs to add in.
Professor Sanders was a very goof prof for the beginning of chem 112. He thoroughly explains the basic stuff (maybe a little too much but I won't complain about that). Overall his teaching was enjoyable and his lectures weren't too long. The textbook is essential in this class.
Professor Sanders is great! He's super funny, is readily available to answer questions outside of class, and is great at explaining concepts. I would highly recommend taking a class of his if given the opportunity.
Dave is a solid choice for a chem class. The class is pretty hard just because it is chemistry class and requires a lot of practice (like all chem classes). Definitely recommend as he is easy to understand. Helpful outside of class. I had him online and the online lectures were as good as they possibly couldve been given the circumstances.
david sanders is a great prof who cares about his students. does tutorials all the time to help students understand and tries his hardest to explain things so you understand them
Dr. Sanders is a great chem prof. His lectures and tutorials are very straightforward and useful (don't skip them!). He really cares about his students and makes sure we understand important concepts.
Sanders was really unorganized through the transition back to learning in person, but all in all I think he is one of the best choices for orgo. He makes things seem a lot simpler than other professors did- only gives you the information you need rather than going into extra detail and making things confusing. Great prof!
I had Dr. Sanders in CHEM 112/250, great prof in both. 250 was online midterms, labs, and in person final. Practice questions/old exams are essential. Dr. Sanders presents key points in a concise way. He has great jokes and ways to remember content. While he struggled with online software, his in person class and tutorials were useful.
I struggle with chemistry, but Dr. Sanders makes the class a little more bearable. He hosts weekly tutorial zoom meets, which are helpful; I always watch the recordings of it. I find it difficult to understand him in class as he talks fast and wears an N95 mask, but those tutorials make up for it. I also appreciate his sense of humour.
He was a great professor! His lectures make sense and don't seem too long or boring. It is a difficult subject, but he lets students feel free to ask questions at any point in his lectures. He makes the material and expectations for finals and midterms very clear.
Very entertaining lectures that are engaging and easy to follow along with. Great at teaching, offers lots of supports for his students. Genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed in his class.
Super understanding if you try and reach him outside of class time, he does extra for the students to succeed. Would definitely recommend
David was such a kind prof. He made the lectures entertaining and gave lots of extra resources. He cares about the students doing well and puts in effort outside of class to help with questions/tutorials. Only thing is the questions he does usually are way easier than the questions on the midterm or final. Doing textbook questions helps.
Prof was great and funny. Although the final exam was very hard in my opinion considering he told us that it would be easier than the midterm. For study purposes, ditch the textbook and do lots of practice questions!! He hardly does any practice questions during the lectures so practice with old exams.
best chem prof out there! cares about students and is always available for extra help outside class. would take him again.
Professor Sander's lectures were funny and interesting, and he held weekly online tutorial sessions for extra help that were extremely useful. Although, the midterm for this term was extremely hard and nothing like anyone had expected, and it was not curved or anything despite the class average being very low. Study hard for this class!
David Sanders is a very caring and entertaining prof! His tutorials are extremely helpful because some small topics are not covered in class but he mentions them in tutorials. Since he misses some things in the lecture, I would recommend looking at the syllabus where there is list everything you need to know from each chapter. Overall, AMAZING!
ATTEND THE STRUCTURED STUDY SESSIONS! these sessions are taught by students who have already taken the class, and they basically reteach what is being taught in class each week. I got most of my studying done there. You only have to attend one session a week for about an hour. Students who do this get higher grades in the class.
Honestly, amazing prof. Explains things well BUT you need to study hard and attend lectures. His tutorials and the study sessions with the students are also mandatory. I slacked hard so I need to retake this class again, SADLY not with Sanders. He's actually great and I would take another class with him again.
Dr. Sanders' lectures are fun - he sprinkles jokes/mnemonics to help w memory! I found the timeline of chapters odd - it felt like we spent lots of time reviewing high school chemistry and rushed the harder stuff but that's where the textbook/SSS come in. If you want to do well, invest time out of class for review/practice (especially the theory)!
You think you know chemistry? No you don't. You do the all the work, get to the midterm and won't know a single thing. Take this class at your own risk.
Best prof i had in my first year, lectures were clear and interesting, he provided a lot of additional resources and help and overall was a good teacher.
Go to the lectures! He has great explaining and examples. Answers questions clearly. Keeps you interested.
Dr. Sanders is amazing. Super helpful, and wants to see his students succeed. He's always available for help and provides weekly tutorials out of his own time. I would take Sanders again but not the class... chem is very difficult for me but if you're good at chem you'll be fine. Although the exams are 10x harder than any of the mock exams provided
he is a good professor and explains things quite well but he can go quite quickly so you have to pay attention
Dr. Sanders has been the best professor I have had in my first year at university. I love going to his lectures because he keeps them very entertaining with all of his jokes that he sprinkles in. He explains things very well, and does example problems on the board as he goes through his slides, which are VERY helpful.
he's super funny and makes lectures engaging. class is hard, but work hard and you'll be good (especially with him as a prof).
His lectures, compared to other classes I've had, are actually useful to go to, but if lectures aren't your thing, you can not go to any lectures and still get A's like I did. He sticks to the course material and he has weekly online tutorials I highly recommend you attend (or if you didn't make it to them he posts the quesitons and video online!)
My Chem 112 prof is honestly awesome! He loves to teach teach Chemistry, and it really shows in their lectures. Even the hard stuff makes sense because they explain it so well either when email / going to tutorials. They're also super chill and always there to help if you have questions. Their energy just makes the class way more fun and engaging!
lectures were very interesting and Sanders explains things well. he does move at a quicker pace than you would expect, so pay attention in lectures. exam questions closely resemble practice questions assigned.
Best prof I had first semester. He made everything super easy, gave tons of examples and practice and was super funny. Everyone who took chemistry 112 was jealous they didn't have Sanders as their prof
There is a weekly assignment that really helped grasp concepts of the chapters, david sanders was overall an awesome prof, who was funny and interesting. He would sometimes go on little rants which were separated from the actual lecture notes but always had some relevance to topics. Awesome guy definitely my go to chem prof
Dr. Sanders was a great prof and very entertaining. He practice problems were great and many were on the final and midterm. Most topics were explained very clearly and understanding the material was no issue with some practice. Has weekly tutorials for help and cares for his students. He clearly has a passion for the subject and loves what he does.
Prof. Sanders' lectures were engaging and the slideshows used were well-constructed and always posted on Canvas ahead of time. He goes through in-class examples and hosted weekly tutorial sessions over Zoom. He was also clear about the content and structure of exams. Very approachable, receptive to questions, and just overall a lighthearted person.
He's the best professor I've experienced in this university so far. His teachings are enjoyable and evaluations are usually all multiple choice. It's easy to get good grades if you know what you're doing.
Lectures were entertaining, he'd hold zoom meetings for every chapter to go over questions. He's a good teacher and cares that his students do well. Did well at teaching complicated concepts.
About as good as it gets regarding chemistry. He's a nice guy, makes lectures entertaining and has lots of office hours for extra help. I would really suggest going to the lectures, especially if chem isn't your strongest subject, because he works through problems and is always happy to answer questions. Weekly assignment, two midterms, final.
chill, funny dude, other than the lectures being dense and full of material, it was an awesome class that I enjoyed. He explains things well and when you have a question he makes sure to answer it.
very funny and nice
Chem112 is a tough course but he does his best to help everyone (who puts in the work) succeed.
VERY funny guy, super kind and takes time to help you if needed. his classes aren't mandatory but I wouldn't recommend skipping them because they're so helpful. labs were easy imo and there were lots of places for study help if needed.
Awesome prof, made lectures enjoyable. Did a fantastic job teaching chemistry, and explained in ways that were easy to understand. Passionate guy in and out of the uni
Cool guy, good lectures. Midterm was tricky but the final was fair
All these good reviews about a prof seem sus - trust; for David Sanders, it isn't. Dr. Sanders is a wonderful prof. He provided many opportunities and resources for students to achieve success in chemistry. Bonus for being super funny!
Amazing prof, great lectures and hilarious. Accessible outside of class and answers emails fast too.
