Good teacher, really enjoyed his teaching style

Class is a lot of work, but if you come to class and study you will be fine. Really interesting lectures, but not an easy A.

interesting material. lectures were easy to get through. he is kinda into himself and talks a lot about whats he's done. good tests and he reviews well for test. he does try to help you get a good grade in the class.

Funny and fun class

He is a good teacher. He gives many visual aides which helps me a lot. I don't think he is too into himself at all. He always tells us that he wants us to do well in this class. So don't think he's one of those proffs that is out to get you.

Challanging course, but you learn how to apply psychology concepts to real life, which makes it worth it. I don't think Dr. Sattler is smug or self-absorbed at all, and profs often make their own books required reading - besides, he donates the profits made from his book to the WWU psych dept.

I believe he explained everything very well, and that his study guides were helpful. He gives review sessions (optional). Prepare for lots of reading and maybe studying. Texts are multiple choice, gives 1 project.

This class is hard to be bad at! Dr. Sattler is very clear and always wants to help you. Anyone who does poorly just didn't take good notes or read. I loved this class!

I thought he was a good professor, he doesn't exactly bend over backwards to get you an A, but I don't think it's too far out of what should be expected- we are college students, anyway.

His study guides weren't helpful, cause he'd put more terms that weren't on the study guide on the test. His voice makes me thirsty, but he was okay... but he should find a better way of lecturing, cause the lectures are equivalent to reading the book on your own time... it doesn't help

I had him my freshmen year, first quarter here. He wasn't as bad I thought as everyone made him out to be. He was a bit hard, but he was actually a fairly nice guy.

Sort of full of himself, however he is there to help you do good in the class. When he does teach he does it in a clear manner, however sometimes it seems he hardly teaches anything, which can make it hard. Sort of light humored.

I thought he did a good job teaching the class, the lectures were very structured, and he made extra time for study sessions outside of class. He also gave a lot of study tips that really helped me out not just in the class, but for the rest of my classes. Sometimes unclear, overall good though.

He's a good teacher but he has no people skills. You try to talk to him and he just seems like a complete jerk.

As long as you read the book, pay attention in class, and turn the material around in your head you'll be fine. He's nice.

I can see where the others are coming from, but I thought he was very clear and he knows his****. We had way less work then the other 302 classes. He was kind of annoying at times, but in the end I would recommend taking him for 302. He told us exactly what would be on tests and gave great examples.

He made what could be a really hard class easy and fun. He told the class exactly what we needed to know for each exam and went through lots of practice examines. Take the class in Spring if you can!

I have no idea what people are talking about when they rate Sattler as a teacher who is not helpful or clear. I felt that he was completely available to help, almost more than any other professor I have had here at Western. He makes stats fun, interesting, and easy to understand. He is very recommended!!!

This class was by no means easy, but definitely worth your time. 4 tests and he goes through in class what you need to know for them exactly. Do the reading and attend all lectures and you will be just fine. His dorky humor and love of apes/zoos keeps the class going.

I don't normally post ratings on this site, but I feel Professer Sattler merits a rating. His class is both well organized, and well taught, and he works very hard to make sure requirements are understood. He reads any work turned in, and is very accessable, he even holds a study session that he is by no means required to teach. A great professor.

Prof. Satter is accomedating considering he is teaching a class with over 300 students. He tries to help as much as possible.

Sattler's a great teacher - some people think he's hard, but those who do have definetely never wandered out of the psych department. He's very clear, and actually tells you exactly what will be on the tests. He's a major stickler for cheating, though, so if that's how you're getting through college, I suggest a different professor.

A great teacher. Extremely clear with what he wants- he even goes through page by page and tells you what to highlight. Also, he pushed back every exam and paper when we didn't feel prepared enough. So nice, knows his stuff, but a bit dorky. I didn't see any of the cheating paranoia that people talk about.

Dr. Sattler is a great teacher! He has been by far one of the most accommodating and concise teachers I've had. The people who have chosen to give him poor ratings are those who either didn't attend the class or received a poor grade due to lack of effort. HE'S GREAT, DON'T BE AFRAID TO TAKE HIM!!!

GREAT PROFESSOR! Super easy, you bring the book to class and he tells you what to study. Nice guy, approachable, he does tend to get up on his enviornmental soap box a lot, but its not too bad. Class material is a little iffy, but overall good class. WAY EASY! just read the book.

Easy class, almost too easy! Dr. Sattler tells you EXACTLY what you need to know for the test. He seems like a nice guy and you can tell he really wants to make sure you understand the material before he moves on. Encourages questions and states answers in multiple ways so everyone understands.

Very happy with this professor. Interesting examples presented in class as well as videos, totally appreciated that he clarified what he really wanted us to study in the text.

Sattler is mildly entertaining. Pay attention to class information save notes because final is equivalent. Multiple choice tests questions are tricky because the answers might seem like they could all be right. Read the book, most of the stuff is logical, but doesn't hurt to crack the book once in a while.

Professor Sattler was a fantastic teacher to have for Social Psychology. He told us exactly what he expected out of us. He was available for extra help, answered e-mails in a short amount of time, and to top that off, he was funny and easy to get along with. I would definitely recommend taking a class with him!

Sattler is an easy 302 prof; if you have even a simple grasp of basic stats you have a good chance of passing his class with an A. His structure is loose, so if you like classes with heavy structure expect to be disappointed, but otherwise he makes the tasks simple and the math easy to comprehend.

Frankly I'm a little saddened by the negative comments from my 302 class this quarter. I have never felt Sattler was condescending or rude and frankly these claims are bizarre. He speaks directly so you know what he expects of you, and so you can get the most out of the class. Sattler is not a terrible 302 prof, in fact quite the opposite.

The first part of this class went really well and I found myself wondering why 301 could not have been explained this well. Sattler is clear about your expectations. The only problems started to arise during the class project, it seemed a little crammed.I think part of that is our classes fault for expecting him to baby us as much as he did prior.

A pretty good teacher for 302, as 302 is of very little fun for faculty or students to be involved with. The class wasn't incredibly difficult and he explained things very well. The final project snuck up on all of us and was more than survivable.

Sattler is very clear in his lectures and with his expectations. His tests can be challenging but he tells you exactly what you need to know ahead of time. I've heard he can be a little... intimidating... outside of class, but he's an overall nice guy and a good prof.

Took him for 343. He's pretty laid back and very clear on exactly what he wants you to know for tests. Theres a big group project you will work on all quarter that it the majority of your grade. But he is very helpful with the whole processe.

Sattler is a good prof. He can be a bit full of himself and he shows too many videos in class. Other than that, good teacher. He really really wants all of his students to get A's. If you ask him a question during a test, he'll pretty much give you the answer. it's pretty sweet! I'd recommend him

Sattler was a great professor! I really enjoyed attending lecture, even though I missed a few classes and still got by. He's really passionate about social psychology and it shines through in his teaching.

He tells you what pages to read for the exam, and his lectures are really clear (though hard to pay attention). Do the reading, focus on where he tells you, and an A should be easy. But it's not an easy A unless you put some hard work into it. Some of his q's are out of the text and he doesn't provide any hints for them.

He genuinely wants his students to do well and it totally shows in how he teaches his classes. He tells you what pages you specifically need to pay attention to and what you can skip, and answers all of your questions clearly.

Excellent. Real-world examples, 100% clear, extremely personable and straightforward. Don't miss class, I missed 2 days and lost points on an exam because of it. Otherwise he will do everything to help you get a good grade, and has interesting lectures. Completely recommend.

Awesome prof!! He is always very helpful and has interesting examples for his lectures. He listens to feedback from students and has a presentation style that doesn't make you want to fall asleep, unlike other profs I've had. I would highly recommend any of his classes, from basic 240 all the way through his seminar! Sattler rocks!

Dr. Sattler genuinely wants to help you get through the stats courses and make sure you understand the material. He'll lead you through class research and is extremely clear on what is expected of you for exams and papers. Definitely take any class you can with him, he's awesome!

Great professor. Cares about the students a lot. Offers assistance with both class matters and other school-related things.

He's kind of like the Dwight Schrute of psychology professors. Class is based on 4 tests with research cred and EC. He's a little dorky but he tells you exactly how to prepare for the tests. The tests are hard, but not impossible. It's a fun class though.I would recommend it as long as you don't expect an easy A.

I thought this would be an easy A, but Sattler's test are annoying. He would assign specific reading from the texbook, then occasionally ask questions that were not covered in the text. He comes off as a know it all. He's okay, but not my favorite at all.

His tests were 75% textbook but he goes through the book in class and tells you exactly what pages to study. He has clear expectations and lectures are interesting! He doesn't post slides online so you have to go to class and take notes but he's incredibly helpful and approachable! I'd take a class from him anytime!

Sattler is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is clear and specific(tells you the exact pagesparagraphs to read from the book for the tests), gives helpful examples for each concept he teaches and really seems to enjoy his job. He is very passionate about his teaching and research, and will do anything to help you pass the class.

If his voice doesn't put you to sleep, his incredibly long and boring slide shows will. He is a nice professor and he goes out of his way to make sure you can pass his class. This class is entirely taught out of the textbook so you definitely need it and you definitely don't have to worry about skipping class, just read the text and you'll be fine.

Pretty good class with interesting lectures. I learned a lot from the books and his lectures, but somehow it did not translate into my exams. I got a consistent C on all exams, not sure why, but I feel I still learned a lot from this course.

As a person, Dr. Sattler is a good guy. As a teacher, I am not a fan. He spoon feeds his entire class what to read in the text, going page by page by page by page, telling you what to highlight. Right down to which paragraphs. While some people may appreciate this, I feel that it is an insult to my intelligence. I prefer profs who expect greatness.

He mentioned in one of his lectures he was a Boy Scout and it explained... so much. You have to read a ton but he's really clear on what will be on tests. Overall good lectures and he's a nice professor, wants everyone to pass the class

This is the easiest psych class i've taken at Western. Sattler goes over every chapter of the book before the test and tells you exactly what pages to focus on and what you can skip. Content is interesting and real-world applicable. Showing up to class isn't that necessary but there are 2 group projects that take about a day to do. Take this class!

This class was one of the hardest classes I have taken so far, however it was also the most rewarding. Sattler truly cares about his students and wants you to succeed. He is always available for help and answers questions thoroughly and promptly. Sattler teaches how to apply your college experience to real life/grad school and it is very helpful

LOVED this class. Dr. Sattler is honestly one of the best professors I have ever taken. He does a lot of amazing research and genuinely wants to include students (he has even taken some to Thailand!!). However, this course involved a ton of reading, and the readings are essential to success for exams. Group project/large paper is big part of grade.

Sattler doesn't post his slides online or make study guides. However, he explicitly goes through the readings, pointing out which parts are most important for the exams. This class is heavy on readings and the exams are largely focused on them. However, the questions are broad and he's a lenient grader. So if you put in the effort you'll do well.

Dr. Sattler was a bit hard to get used to at first, but once you do, he is pretty great. He really cares about his students and their success both during and after college. My biggest complaint about the way he taught this class is the group project. The guidelines were not very clear and the timeline was pretty stressful. Great class overall!!

You have to go to class. There are test questions that have answers that are only presented in class and he does not post his power points nor allow you to take pictures. Take lots of notes in class and read the textbook a lot and you will pass. You have TO GO TO CLASS!!

Really great guy, very passionate about the information and willing to do whatever it takes to help his students succeed. A lot of reading makes studying a bit of a drag, but I enjoyed learning from him.

I honestly dont know how this man has a bad review. He tells you EXACTLY what is on the exam and asks for class feedback constantly. I thought I would struggle in this class and Im pleasantly surprised. Hes super accommodating and really cares about his students. Put in the work and itll show in your grade.

Super accommodating and really wants all of his students to pass. He is helpful and very clear what will be on exams. Very helpful with papers. And extremely responsive to emails, he emailed me back usually within the hour. Overall great course and an even better prof.

I was really nervous to take his class as Im not the most comfortable with statistics but I had a great experience. He genuinely wants students to succeed. Hes one of the most clear professors Ive ever had. Hes also incredibly passionate about his work which is admirable. All around great professor and I would 100% take him again if I could.

Great professor. Made concepts easy to understand. The textbook homework questions are your friend - they are really good practice for the calculation portions on exams and statistics in general.

Sattler is the best professor I have ever had, especially for a math oriented class. He actually cares about your personal success, gives career/resume help, and if you don't understand a concept, he uses multiple approaches to help until you get it. He continuously checks in with the class's comfort and understanding. REALLY prepares you for 303!

Sattler is a great choice! He is definitely accommodating for your personal health and especially during this pandemic. Make sure you do have the APA manual (6th edition) - these quizzes were exceptionally difficult (he does give you a guide b4 quizzes). There is a group project (tip: participate and ask questions) -you will get through it.

Please remember that Dr. Sattler does not decide what is taught in the 302 class, he decides how to teach it. He does a great job explaining the material and checking in often to make sure we all understand it. He even gives page numbers to study for the exams. He gives us so many resources to help us on exams, in 303, and in life. Great professor.

I thought that Dr. Sattler did an amazing job of making students feel like they were in a real classroom setting. The research paper was something that I was personally very nervous to write and had a lot of anxiety around and by the end I felt like I fully understood how to write it thanks to Dr. Sattler.

Dr. Sattler is an incredibly empathetic and passionate professor. While the class may have been unorganized during a lecture or two, I think he did a fantastic job overall navigating through an online format. Provided great feedback on papers, and always had plenty of examples for concepts when students were having difficulties understanding.

I took this class during the pandemic, fall of 2020. Dr. Sattler takes into account that students come in with different levels of understanding from 301. He is good at communicating with students and very fair. His canvas set up does need some organization, but he gives you all the resources you need. He offered us help every step of the way.

Dedicates course to helping you add things to your resume and preparing you for career/gradschool. Actually cares about your success. Focuses on real-world application, not aceing exams. Best prof I've ever had, hands down. Genuinely kind and caring person. More than just a professor, a lifelong mentor as well. Highly recommend!!

Most of the negative reviews come from the 301-303 series of classes, and honestly that's just a byproduct of those classes being formatted terribly (this issue will be addressed this coming fall when classes for the psych major will be changed up). Dr. Sattler is a really nice guy and a super lenient grader. Almost everyone in the class got A's!

442 with Dr. Sattler was probably the best class I have taken at WWU. He is committed to the class and it shows. He provides many resume building opportunities including conferences, and possibly published papers. This class is not easy, a lot of work goes into designing the project, but it is SO worth it! I learned so much in this class. 10/10.

Sattler clearly cares about students experience. He checks in to confirm retention, asks for and acts on student feedback (e.g. dropped a final paper after students expressed overwhelm). He gives numerous resources to support in completing assignments. These negative reviews are laughable. He gives every resource under the sun, just utilize them.

Dr. Sattler is an average professor when it comes to giving lectures. However, that is mostly due to the class’s content. He is amazing when it comes to student support though. He clearly explains what to study, is really understanding of student concerns, and gives many opportunities to ask questions. The class is easy if you use his resources.

I've had Dr. Sattler for psy classes in the past and every time he is so understanding and works hard to make the students feel comfortable talking to him and asking questions. He really wants us to succeed. He got rid of a whole paper because our class was overwhelme. Honestly just a really kind and chill dude. Loved Dr. Sattler :,)

Dr. Sattler is one of those professors who care about how this class can set you up for SO many opportunities after this class. He takes time to teach you how to format resumes, cover letters, and how to make yourself get noticed when applying to grad school or a job. He does not record lectures but is always available to discuss questions.10/10.

So long as you’ve passed 307, which is technically already a requirement, you’ll be ready for this class. With only a few pretty small assignments on the side, the whole class is about running a research project and writing the final study. While he is there to guide you, most decisions will be up to the class working as one large group.

My all time favorite professor at Western, this guy is so nice. No out of class assignments, just heavy reading. Reina020 on Quizlet made a few sets for the class and they have helped me study the important topics. He also posts all the pages to study for exams. 12/10

Social Psychology was a great class. Be aware that the grade you get in the class will be based entirely on 4 tests and a few in class group assignments. He was super helpful when I asked questions. It is important to take notes in lectures as the lecture constitutes the tests more than the textbook.

Sattler is one of my all time favorite professors. I took him last quarter and find myself missing his class. His lectures are very interesting but be sure to pay attention. I think that his teaching style would work well with many different people.

I really enjoyed Dr. Sattler! Definitely show up to class ready to learn. He really wants us to succeed and gives us many opportunities to ask questions and go over things for exams. He even pushes back exam dates if we don't feel ready enough. He is not a boring lecturer and I admire that he really enjoys what he's teaching about. :)

Very caring and wants everyone in the class to do well. However sometimes this means going over the same things over and over again which can be a bit boring. He also seems like a good resource if you need help with applying to grade school and things like that.

Dr. Sattler is the type of teacher who encourages students to think critically and apply their knowledge in real-life situations, not just in the classroom. He is very approachable and easy to talk to; if you ever feel stuck with something, Dr. Sattler is always willing to help. He is truly a great human being!

Dr.Sattler was the most inspirational and caring professor I have had at Western. He was very clear in what he wanted from us and helped us through almost every step of the way. Any questions that we asked he tried to answer as best he could and if he couldn't he would research or reach out to other resources to find an answer.

Psy 343 and 442 were among the most transformative courses at WWU, which reshaped my understanding of social behavior. Furthermore, Dr. S. deeply supports students' academic and professional growth by offering tools like resume guidance to help achieve their goals. That is, he goes above and beyond to foster success in every way possible.

I can't recommend taking this class with Dr. Sattler enough, he is a great professor!! His lectures are extremely helpful in understanding the material, he gives clear feedback on work and creates lots of opportunities to prepare for exams. I loved Dr. Sattler! The lectures were not super full of material, mostly studies we had to know for the exams. A lot of reading which was difficult to stay on top of, but he would go through the book and emphasize what we needed to know. The exams were in-person and closed note, but were super simple.
