goes through material real fast!
Very un healthy to attend his class, makes you drop out of college!!!!
BORING! Kind of unusual - your way is rarely right, even if proven right
I've had him for 2 classes, he is great! He is a little weird, but means well.
SOOOOOOO boring, but teaches well otherwise, voice very annoying
Totally sucks
THIS CLASS IS REALLY BAD!!!
He is so boring, and he says situation alot,, just listen!
He is a very akward teacher, but he is willing to answer any questions and help you understand issues. However, he is very particular about the answers and how the problems are done on the tests. I would take another class he teaches if I had the choice.
very nice teacher, makes you learn. He really isnt that hard if you take notes and pay attention. His finals are just like old tests.
He is a very good teacher. Any teacher who enjoys teaching their subject so much, like him, is good. He is wonderful when it comes to explaining and hes a funny guy!
explains concepts clearly but a perfectionist on the tests and is never wrong himself!
He is goofy, but a great teacher. He is very nice and explains things very clearly. he even gives take home quizzes if he forgets to mention a quiz in class. I would strongly recomend him.
His voice will put you to sleep. And really, papers in a math class? Nice enough guy, go to class and try to pay attention.
can get confusing but is a good guy if you need help he will take the time
learning about elem. math can be boring, but try to take good notes/pay attention and do well on the exams which aren't that bad. study off the quizzes for the exams and you'll do fine.
He's a really nice guy and explains things really well. It's not the most exciting class, but you can tell he really cares about whether you learn the material. I would definitely recommend him.
hard class. take Zerger instead.
He is terrible never take him!!! If you take him you will regret it. I promise
If you take him you have to understand him. He tests from his notes - not the book. Go to class and take notes. He is a nice guy.
Very relaxed teacher. Don't bother reading the book. Just learn from the in-class notes.
I would recommend him. Gives good notes and examples. If you go to class and pay attention you should do fine
Very boring, but the class is easy. No hands on activities
This class isn't that bad, if I would have studied better I would have easily gotten an A. He is helpful and explains things if you ask. He can be boring sometimes.
I hated this class. We had to write a number of papers explaining math concepts- nothing was ever good enough for him. He was very boring, very wierd, overall bad. Don't take him if you don't have to.
Dr. Schall is an excellent teacher, but his voice can drone you out, especially if you aren't interested. Devotes an entire day to review, and will explain anything if you don't seem to get it.
SO INCREDIBLY BORING! His monotone voice will kill ya. I wanted to leave so many times, but class wasn't overly difficult. Study off homework type questions for the tests. He's kinda weird and in his own little world sometimes.
Dr Schall was a good teacher. He did take time to explain if asked a question-but you have to ask!Was a fair grader, giving partial points if you had the right idea. Its tough to make math too exciting.
Let's face it, math is boring but Schall does the best he can to spice it up. I thought the papers we had to write were unecessary, but easy extra points! Also, he gives partial credit and quizzes to offer extra points. I recommend him.
I thought he was a very good teacher, one of the best math teachers I've had since I've been at SVSU and I've been here for three years. He was very helpful and was concerned if you didn't understand the lessons. He was a great teacher!
boring, includes attendance in the form of quizzes better than a few others but is part of the poor math at svsu
Ok, my group asked him if we should include our opinion about aour reaction to the paper we had to write and he said "some people believe in the Bible..." I ask you, what does that have to do with the yes or no question we asked...or math for th
He's not very helpful and pretty single minded--his way or the highway. I would not recommend him, you won't learn much unless you really like math.
I thought Schall was a great prof. He was very clear with his wording. I understood most of the material we covered. He gives partial points on tests and quizzes if you made a good attempt! I would definetely suggest taking his course!
He is a great prof. Very clear and easy to understand. Makes sure you understand the material and goes over all the quizzes. Gives out LOTS of take-home quizzes and they're all really easy, 5 pts. each. He spent an hr. of class time just going over our questions. don't expect to get out early though
I've taken two of his classes now. Though i really have trouble in math, he's come the closest to helping me understand. He's a whispy soft spoken guy who really cares whether or not you learn. While his lectures can get hard, he tries his best.
Not the worst math professor out there but he'll bore you to death and put you to sleep with his monotone voice, but still not the worst professor. He'll go over math problems if you ask until you understand them. Exams not too overly difficult.
he was the best math prof i have ever had. he explains everything and i never left class confused. sometimes it did get boring cuz we went so slow, but i'd rather him go slow than speed through and not understand. i'd reccomend him to ANYONE!
Very nice guy! Helped you by giving problems in the chapters. If you do these problems they are what is on the test you will at least pass. It is tons of work but you won't have to take it over!
Super nice guy.Loves what he is teaching.Attend class everyday & take notes-you won't have any problems. If you're confused hes willing to help you out.Around 10 quizzes, he gives reviews for exams. Class can be boring. He goes slow so you don't get behind.Gives partial credit for answers when grading
Not a bad prof. If you know Geometry, you don't need to be in every class. He makes it easy so there is no way that you can't get it. Not very approachable, but not a bad prof.
One of the few math teachers at Saginaw Valley that has nothing to do with the reputation of the department. If you just pay attention and make sure to do the few writing assignments you should be fine. A few concepts may be a little tough to grasp but he's more than willing to help. Great Prof.
He's very helpful and gives partial credit; which helps. The information is alot to learn at a quick pace though. (7 wks.)

this class was somewhat interesting... I think it would be easy in a longer course. I would not reccomend spring/summer. Mr. Schall is very nice and helpful though.
Dr. Schall is the best math prof. that I have ever had, and completely goes against all assumptions about Saginaw Valley's math department. He is super nice and goes slow so everyone knows what they are doing. Very willing to do as many examples as needed. Exams follow the class and the quizzes. Again, best math prof. I have ever had.
Math is difficult for me, but he goes slow and gives a ton of examples. Doesn't collect homework, but you need to do it to do well. If you do the homework and ask him questions when you have them you should get an A/B. He is kind of shy but approachable and willing to help.
Cares about students.
great teacher, best math teacher at svsu. Very helpful, he cares, and works with you so you understand. geometry is hard but he does a great job of explaining. Excellent teacher!!!
He is an excellent teacher and I'd recomend him to anyone. If someone does poorly in his class it is their own fault because he always makes sure things are clear. He cares about the students and the subject. He's one of the best teachers I've had at SVSU for sure!

all i have to say is this guy will keep your interest the entire class period!! The whole hour and 50 min. I just wonder when in the hell is the flood coming???
he is a good teacher! best teacher I had this entire year! he always helps you and cares about the students. he explains everything and will help you if you don't understand something. he definitely is the best math teacher.
Dr. Schall is an awesome professor. He explains math in a way you can understand it, which is definitely a plus when you hate it in the first place. I'm not very good when it comes to math, but passed this class with an A. I believe this was from the way Dr. Schall taught. Take him if you can! P.S. He sounds like Owen Wilson. :)
The notes taken in class were very helpful!
Prof Schall is one of the best math teachers at SVSU. He takes the time to explain things thoroughly, and makes math easy. Extremely nice guy. I would recommend him for any math class.
He is an excellent teacher. He really takes the time to explain the concepts in detail, but if you still have trouble he is more than willing to help.
He is a very good teacher. He goes really slow and explains it all so he is sure everyone understands it. Sometimes he goes so slow that it gets boring though. Also he always seems nervous, but I would take him again.
THE BEST MATH TEACHER AT SVSU BY FAR. Seriously, the most helpful ever and when he lectures, math makes sense. TAKE HIM! It wont be a waste of time!
No homework assignments, 10 quizzes, 3 exams and a final. Goes very slow, and the class in extremely easy if you've had a geometry class before. I would take him again.
Mr. Schall is a really good professor. He gives plenty of examples to make sure you understand the material. There are weekly quizzes that are pretty easy and keep you on track. He always is available for help. The tests are fair and he gives a very helpful review sheet. I really enjoyed this class and would take him again!
He gives you a formula sheet, which most profs don't do. He does give pretty good notes, but when it comes to "dumming it down" so you can really learn it, he fails in that department, he continues to explain the concept the same way, not very helpful. He does give extra credit and lets you redo
This was one of the most difficult classes Ive taken at SVSU. Dr. Schall is not very helpful and only seems to have one way of explaining. Take someone else!!
Awesome math professor! The best math professor I have ever had at SVSU. I suck at math and this class was actually easy. No homework or attendance required. Weekly quizzes, a few writing assignments, and some exams! You review for them the day before! Take him for this class!
Teacher was GREAT! He made it all make sense, which is saying a lot for me and math. I have taken Beg. Algebra up through Physics, and have never had a teacher make it all click in my head. This was the best math class I have ever taken. I wish I could go back and take all the other ones with him teaching them.
This was the 2nd time I had Mr. Schall as a Math professor. Math is tough for me but with hard work I got an A-. He will answer any questions (he never got mad at the large amount of questions I asked), give extra help, and explain until you get it. He wants you to succeed. He grades fairly. Study his notes more than the text and it will pay off.
Very happy and nice guy. The class is a breeze for me I barely try and get A's on everything! Highly recommend him he goes slow but I always understand that way!
He was a very nice and happy guy. We always got out half an hour early and he gave review sheets for the test. The book is not worth buying though, but his lectures are so easy to follow. This class is the reason I switched my minor to math. Strongly recommend!
This is my 2nd class with him. Gives lots of opportunities for xtra credit. Made a very difficult subject much easier to understand. Can be convinced into open book quiz if lots of people are lost. Nice and willing to help. Tends to "over explain" concepts some times though. I'd take him again and I stink at math!
Great teacher, second time I've taken him. Lets you make up missed quizes doesn't keep attendance but it's important to know the material so go to class. Lots of help and really easy to understand. Take him for math if you need any math classes.
Professor Schall was a good professor. Very helpful whenver you need it. Gives easy weekly quizzes that help you prepare for the test a lot. Explains the material in a simple understanding matter.
professor schall is the bomb yo!
He is a nice person, but I didn't care for his teaching style. If I had to take another math course, I probably wouldn't take it with him.
He is an awesome teacher I would recommend him to anyone. The subject itself is difficult but he teaches it well. Home work is not mandatory and there is a weekly 10 point quiz. Tests are not too difficult if you know the material.
TAKE this professor. Seems a little boring to begin with, but when he teaches, he gets his point across. You will learn a lot from him. Very helpful and concerned that you are learning. Take notes, study them, tests are easy. Gives plenty of opportunity to ask questions and explains everything. I am taking his classes again
Mr. Schall is comical in his own quirky way. However, while the class is easy, I found really no purpose in attending class. The work was not in depth or hands on, as in my previous math for elementary teachers class at another school. While I loved my previous math for elementary teachers course, I disliked this one and was very bored.
Great Math instructor. He cares that you understand everything he teaches. Answers questions until clear. Teaches very well. A few writing assignments, and homework assignments but gives a chance to resubmit for a better great. Need a math class - Take Him - you will learn a lot.
Very easy class
Great teacher, grades and returns quizzes back quickly. His grading methods are easy to understand and will answer any questions you have. Would take again.
Dr. Schall is okay; that's kind of it. He tries his best to get his point across, but honestly, our entire mathematics department sucks. I'd recommend him because he is okay, but he's not as great as some of these ratings made him seem... at all. I'm great at math and still struggled a little bit in his course last semester.
Great prof, very easy. His 110 class was almost a gaurentee A as long as you did the work. You had two chances at each assignment. Tests were very easy. 125 - If you took notes and pay attention to the review you will get a B
I don't understand why everyone likes him. His test are very confusing, I spent many hours in the tutoring center and still did horrible on test. Asking for help from him got me into a more confused state. Do not take if possible
I wouldn't take him again, be he wasn't horrible. He just wasnt interesting, and that made the content difficult to understand. He was a little monotone, so the content just dragged on and on and on.
When I signed up for this class I was terrified because everyone told me you don't pass stats. I ended up doing very well in the class minus one test , but there are lots of quizzes to save your grade. Awkward level: Sheldon Cooper, but nice and extremely helpful.
Professor Schall is so nice and helpful! He is pretty awkward though. Gives a break in the middle of class. Stats is a very hard class but he tries to explain it until everyone understands! He gives a total of 4 tests and 10 quizzes. Often on the quizzes you can use your notes! He will drop your lowest quiz grade at the end of the semester!
Professor Schall is a very helpful teacher. I am not a math major and he made my only required math course very passable. Very easily influenced into letting students use notes on quizzes. Always ask for an example problem before each quiz, it will make the quiz seem like a piece of cake.
Professor Schall is probably one of my favorite professors here at SVSU. He explains everything clearly until everyone understands the problem. He will work through every problem with you if you ask. Short writing assignments and a few exams, but not bad. I highly recommend him. Oh and DON'T buy the book, we never used it.
Great Professor. He was easy to understand and taught in a way that made sense. The tests and quizzes are easy, and he also gives study guides. He has optional review classes before tests. No homework and I never used the book. The class says no calculator but that shouldn't scare you as the material on the tests and quizzes is easy math.
David knows what he's doing but can sometimes forget most students are not math majors. He covers a lot of material in one lecture and sometimes it's hard to follow. He also seems too look down on others making it seem like you asked a stupid question. He's a nice guy but awkward and it makes it difficult to listen. Easy grader but hard material.
Good prof. Makes sure you understand the content and is really nice. The pacing is kind of slow but it's an easy class.
Professor Schall taught a tough class in a way that someone who struggles with math can get no less than a B. 10 quizzes, 4 exams, he drops the 2 lowest quizzes and if you get a high final grade, he will replace it with your lowest exam. You are allowed to use formula sheets. Gives exam review study guide, exactly what is on the exam. RECOMMENDED!!
Easily one of the top math professors at SVSU and in the area. He approaches the material in a way that almost everyone can underatdn and learn along with taking time to ake sure everyone understands what is going on. He is not an easy grader, but there is partial credit on the exams and quizzes. Show up and pay attention to get an A.
Professor Schall was a good teacher. He was nice and funny. People complain that his lectures covered too much material, but this class was how to teach elementary students math. The material was all review from our elementary math days and was super easy. He did not ask too much of us and let us make up quizzes if we told him before we missed.
If you struggle with math, TAKE DR. SCHALL. Seriously, coming from someone who has never understood math, and has failed multiple math classes, he explained everything in such a way that I was able to get an A. Cannot recommend enough.
He's a great professor. Classes can be boring, but he's willing to help with anything you're unsure of. Gives study guides before tests, and is very clear on what you'll be tested on. I'm not good at math, but he makes things understandable and doable. Never used the book, and homework was optional. Highly recommend!
Prof Schall is a great guy, cares for his students! 3 exams, a final, 10 quizzes, get to drop 2. I struggle sometimes with math but he makes it very manageable, finishing the class with 100%! Yet, when asking a question in class, it's like he gets snappy, its weird but very approachable in office hours. I recommend taking his class!
This was the weirdest class I've ever had. I don't think Dr. Schall really cares what his students do... u could get up & walk out when u wanted, chat all hour while he lectured, etc. However, he was excellent at teaching the material to the students who listened. Very easy class, great grader, gives 2nd chances. If you struggle in math, take him!
Dr. Schall was a great prof. Explained everything during lecture very well. If you struggle with math, I would recommend because he explains things very slowly. 11 total quizzes and 3 get dropped. These quizzes are great for exam reviews along with the review guides he gives before every exam. Very clear grading criteria.
Schall is honestly the best math professor at SVSU. I have taken him for math 140 also! He gives out 10 quizzes and drops two of them. Also, he offers extra credit on all his exams and a formula sheet as well! Super funny in his own quirky way! 10/10 recommended taking Schall for any math class you can! Super easy and loved these two courses!
Im bad at math, but this is one of the easiest math classes Ive ever taken. Dont buy the book unless you plan on doing optional homework that he never goes over anyways. Hes definitely a nerd but hes very nice. Lectures are boring though, usually ended up on my phone. Sorry professor (:
Schall knows what he is teaching and will really help you understand how to do elementary concepts, but if you have taken AP math courses before, you will be bored. It is a blow off class if you've taken anything above geometry in high school. He is a good teacher regardless, but will take the whole two hours to explain how to subtract fractions.
I had this guy for an online math class due to COVID. Everything was set up nicely and during his office hours when he went through problems to help, he was always very clear on what he was doing and why so I actually understood. I even had to be out of state for a week due to family matters and was STILL able to get As on his quizzes. Nice guy!
Professor Schall explains his material really well every class. There is a quiz once a week that are very doable, you just have to pay attention to what he is teaching. I highly recommend taking his class.
No homework grades. Exams were worth 100 points or more. Average score for them was around a 50%. This was the first class I ever needed tutoring for. He kind of belittled you if you tried to ask a question.
He gives quizzes weekly they match up with what you learn during lecture, also drops your 2 lowest. Before exams he uploads a review with answers which helps to study, also on exams there are extra credit questions. Attendance isn't graded but to get the notes you have to be there. Book isn't necessary unless you want to do HW for extra help.
Incredibly boring but he teaches everything you need to know for quizzes and tests which will make up your entire grade. Homework is not mandatory and the only extra credit opportunities are a few questions he puts on every exam.
So many other students struggled with other professors for this class so try to get him!! You do need to attend every class in order to do good but he explains the material very well and if you attend class it will be a breeze. Homework is optional, just take notes. Do the study guides because they are similar to the exams! Highly recommend.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. He is terrible at showing how to do different topic within math. He just does the problems without explaining HOW, he just does. He spends half of the lecture telling you what NOT to do in math, instead of explaining what to do. He makes you feel so stupid if you ask questions. Would not take again.
if you have to take stats DO NOT take this professor. he goes way too fast and rambles on about things that arent going to help us on tests. hes also just a confusing guy and i wouldn't reccomend taking him to anyone.
Professor Schall is very nice and knows what he is talking about. Come to class and take notes and you will be fine. I would recommend, class was very easy!
He was such a kind professor (online), his lectures were great as they were pre-recorded so I could rewind and make sure I know what I was to be doing. Really good at responding to emails (typically under 24 hours). Was accommodating with the accommodations I had and willing to work with me on what I was struggling with. Defiantly a kind soul!
He is not great about answering questions, he tends to think that most questions are common sense. He did a good job however of slowing down when it was clear he was moving to quickly through material. His quizzes are really hard but the tests are normally not to bad as long as you do the homework and study guide.
I took him for Math 145. I thought he was a pretty good professor. The quizzes are just like the tests and he only tests/quizzes over the material we went over in class. One of the better professors in the math department.
Schall always gave easier ways to solve and partial credit on tests, but he was boring. Math is boring but people were always falling asleep, and I could hardly pay attention to learn because my mind would wander. Schall also seemed very judgmental and would make a face when someone asked a question that he thought was too easy to ask about.
I'm terrible at math but was able to pass with this professor. He's pretty much straight to the point when explaining problems and doesn't go too fast. He's one of the better professors in the Marh department. I would recommend him if you struggle with math.
He did a great job of explaining things in multiple ways. He used many examples and his notes corresponded exactly to the weekly quizzes. Attendance is not mandatory however I recommend going since he does give lots of helpful examples. There were 4 exams and the last was on everything. He gave exam reviews which was just like the actual exams.
Professor Schall is great at explaining math concepts, especially if you struggle with math. The class had 10 quizzes which was a lot, but he dropped two of your lowest. Do not get the textbook, we never used it. Attendance is also not mandatory but I do suggest to come to class to write notes because it will help you in the long run.
Do not take David for Stats. I've had him for 2 classes he is okay in my other class but horrible for stats. The only grades are exams and quizzes. I've always been good at math and have passed every math class i've take with a 95% or higher and i'm currently failing this class. He does not teach well, he's very judgmental and just boring.
Professor Schall did a solid job explaining and offered lots of examples to aid in learning. The actual concepts we learned were very easy, got a little harder towards the end, but was still very manageable. The homework is all optional and comes from a free online textbook. Grades were from 10 quizzes and 3 exams plus the final. I recommend!
I'd definitely recommend taking Math 110 with him! There are weekly quizzes and a few exams, but the homework isn't graded. He always starts class by giving time for questions about the material. He might seem a bit boring and hard to follow at first, but he explains the material really well once he gets into it.
Professor Schall is great at explaining concepts. Attendance is a must, but it's worth it - he covers material thoroughly. Unstuckstudy and the practice exams were super helpful for me. Overall, the class is manageable if you stay on top of the work.
He is pretty quiet but you can tell he knows what he is talking about. He explains math concepts well, and for this course, there were quizzes at the start of every class which can be daunting, but he drops the 2 lowest. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't show up and take notes, you won't pass. Exams are easy. DO NOT GET TEXTBOOK.
He is a nice teacher but he needs to have a little bit more outside of the class work so it is easier to understand the lessons. He is quiz and exam heavy. has a quiz a week and has 4 exams in a semester
Is it an easy class? Yes. But, he just talks to the class than actually showing how to do the problems, which is kinda insane for a math class. The textbook is required but you honestly don't need it. If you have basic math skills before taking the class you will be more than fine.
I had him for 110 and 132A! He is such a sweet soul and definitely knows what he is talking about! The grades are very clear, and the exams align perfectly with the study guides! 10/10 recommend!
You have a quiz once a week and an exam about every 3-4 weeks. If you go to the lectures and pay attention you'll be fine. You really don't need to do the homework, its not graded and most of the time it doesn't line up with what you are learning.
Mr. Schall was overall a pretty good professor. He is also unintentionally funny. He is very lecture-heavy, and the lectures can be boring. He doesn't take attendance, but I recommend showing up. There is a quiz every Monday, but they are easy, and he grades pretty easily. Overall, I recommend it if you are looking for an easy math class.
He is a great professor and is pretty funny. The lectures can get boring but show up to class so you can understand the material. No homework, just quizzes every week on Monday. There are 4 exams during the duration of the course, do the review handout. If you are not a good test taker, I wouldn't take this class.
