Precalc is pretty much the most fast-paced math course in Rutgers. Even if you took it in high school, you might struggle. Teacher is entertaining and makes the course a lot easier. Do the webassign homework, prepare for quizzes, and do reviews before exam! :)

As a person, he is a great guy. He knows all the internet memes, the latest happenings in sports and rap, and he makes a lot of jokes. But as a lecturer he goes very fast. People who pay attention can usually get the grasp of the problem he puts on the board. He also explains them well, but if you were to miss a lecture then you miss out on a lot.

This dude is HILARIOUS!!! He makes calc way more fun than any other professor would and really has a passion for math. He has an effective teaching style and helps you remember things easily. Holds long office hours and give some extra credit. So basically he's just awesome.. Take scheiman.

This guy is straight up hilarious. One of my favorite professors my first semester. He teaches well and will help you understand. Only reason I didn't do well was because I did not do any of the optional homework. He's still there to help and cares about his students. Exams are hard though so prepare. Expect to study for them. Scheiman is the man.

Scheiman is a great teacher go to office hours if you don't know what to do and he'll help. To get and A in the class you just need to make sure you know how to do all the problems that are linked on the syllabus. This class isn't hard if you make sure you study, do the homework and go to recitation for the quizzes.

No chips, no dip. Course is difficult, if you ask specific questions he will clarify, he will also do his best to help you understand a topic. A lot of outside work is necessary and needs to be done in order to achieve a good grade.

Scheiman is a very good professor. He sometimes goes too fast but if you ask a question he will answer it. Homework doesn't always match what he teaches in class but you can find it in the textbook. He makes a lot of jokes throughout the class and the period goes by fast. Definitely loves his job.

Scheiman is hilarious, and he tries to make the lectures interesting and short. HW is on Webassign, so you need to buy the online version of the book unfortunately. His midterms are really straightforward and very similar to the review problems he gives, but the final is more difficult (made by the math dept.) Go to class and you will learn. :)

If you have the chance to take this professor for any math classes, I suggest it! I am currently taking him for Precalculus Part 2 and he is hilarious. His positive attitude and jokes really engages students to be more aware. Lectures are enjoyable, and that's not easy to say with math classes. He takes the monotony out of math classes. A+.

He's a really great guy - makes math worth while (kinda). Lecture isn't dry at all, he keeps you entertained with his corny jokes and stories. The class is pretty hard, but if you keep up with the homework and go to recitation, you should be fine! I would definitely retake the class just for Scheiman - jk i wouldn't bc its math but u get the point.

Scheiman is the greatest math prof at Rutgers. Makes the corniest jokes but they're great and he always looks out for his students my advice take him every time you can.

What more can I say, Scheiman is the best!!! He is always willing to answer a question and explain a concept in detail. There is never a dull or boring lecture with Scheiman. Never hesitate to take any one of his classes.

Simply preposterous doesnt know anything about pokemon go but overall very good teacher. Should definitely attend all classes and he keeps it interesting and genuinely cares about his students and wants them to do well.

So far he is one of my favorite teachers. He really tries to make you understand the material and does not make you feel dumb if you make a mistake. He is really down to earth and constantly goes of topic and is mad funny. His personality really helps since he class is so late. I recommend him 100%.

Dude's a straight savage. He reminded me of my high school teachers because HE ACTUALLY CARES. Has some funny ass jokes, ends class early, and tells you what will be on exams so you don't waste your time. He also learned my name once I told him, he truly cares about students and loves math. Literally one of the best professors I have ever had. He's so funny and makes the subject truly interesting. The best thing about this class is that he actually wants each student to do well and puts a lot of materials and basically tells you what to study for, so if you can take his class, do it.

Decent Professor, tries a little too hard with to relate to the class but overall is amusing and interesting. He is clearly an intelligent individual and that comes through in the course material. If you are not one to attend lectures you can get away with it, if you love doing all the work possible he posts TONS of problems online to work on.

Scheiman is the definition of a zaddy. And he's a good professor so that's cool too. If you struggle in math, but have to take precalc, take him.

Overall, he is a very intelligent and helpful teacher who clarifies any misconceptions or problems the students may have. He puts time into each example so you know exactly how to solve each and every problem. Will prepare for life in and outside the classroom.

You can't get anything better than Scheiman! I absolutely love this professor, so nice and down to earth. He has two exams , plus the final. If you study your butt off its a guaranteed that you will do well for sure. He's awesome.

Funny guy but his midterms are really difficult. However, on the bright side his difficult midterms prepare you well for the final, and once you face the final you think it is really easy.

There is no doubt this man is the great professor with a rare gift . Somehow he was able to cultivate a class environment where we all had fun while at the same time learning some hard stuff. If i wouldn't have transferred I'd be in his calculus 152 class as we speak. Scheiman prepares you for anything in and out of the classroom.

I was so glad to be in his class! He went over problem areas constantly, so it made me really understand the concepts. He also kept in constant contact with his students for extra office hours. I would definitely recommend, especially if you don't want a boring class.

Great guy, would definitely take the class again, really funny and great lectures, even though there was no attendance policy, I showed up to every lecture (kind of have to anyway but the point is it was enjoyable). Puts humor into lecture to make it engaging and always talks about relationships for some odd reason.

I was originally a pre-med major so not engineering or math and I was very intimidated by this class at first but it's not as bad as it seems. Exams are kinda difficult and the workshops and webassigns are annoying but Scheiman is a really great professor and keeps class interesting. Final was very easy compared to the midterms. Highly recommend!

Precalc 115 is very fast paced and in each class we cover multiple sections, but with Scheiman teaching, it doesn't feel as overwhelming. Plus, he's funny so the lectures aren't dull. I would definitely recommend taking precalc 115 with him if you have the option to.

Honestly one of the best professors at Rutgers. He explains topics clearly and helps you a lot throughout the semester. He is a funny guy that keeps the class engaged. I wish I could take every math course with this guy. His exams are kind of hard but this is a good (to prepare you for the final) thing but just practice and you will do fine.

Scheiman is the man. Hands down the coolest professor at Rutgers. I had him for 115 which is a hard class but Scheiman helps you succeed. His midterms are tough but if you do the study guides and understand them you should definitely get a B or higher. most the recitation quizzes are pretty easy and all are very helpful. Very funny and went on a lot of tangents. His lectures could be confusing, but I'm sure you could fix that by asking questions in class or going to office hours (I'm just way too shy). This IS a very difficult class and I found that the exams were harder than problems given in class. WOULD suggest attendance, even if you already took calc in hs.

Professor Scheiman is an amazing professor and a funny guy! The course material does go by quick and some concepts are difficult to follow but Scheiman makes it easy through his examples. His office hours are extremely helpful. BONUS(at least for my class): he does message his group of students to remind them of office hours and exam information.

David Schieman's pre-calc 112 class is pretty good, I recommend anyone who learns by examples and doing homework to take this class, I had no use for the textbook. The class has 3 exams(2 midterms and 1 final). You can pass the exams by completing the practice exams. His lectures are very enjoyable, straight to the point, and easy to follow.

This is the second time I took a class with prof. Scheiman , the teaching was very similar to the other class, straight to the point and teaching by examples. This class is difficult and requires a lot of time dedicated to Homework, practice exams, and recitation papers. Don't skip any lectures, you'll get lost. Lots of office hours for help.

Without a doubt, one of the best Math professors I've had in my life. His lectures aren't mandatory, but strongly encouraged. He teaches the very core of Calculus, not simply problem sets and answers. Plus, his lectures are always interactive and hilarious! I can happily say that I have an extremely strong foundation for Calc because of him.

As someone who took Calculus in high school, I found Calc 135 with Scheiman a challenge at times but overall an enjoyable experience (as enjoyable as calculus can be). He truly cares about his students. Participation is not mandatory at all but it helps him notice you more and gain a better connection with you.

Made my semester pleasant, his lectures were never boring. He got straight to the point and if you needed any help with a problem he would go over it with the class step by step. I would highly recommend taking him. AWESOME!!!

Went from a C in precalc 111 with Amodio to an A in 112 with Scheiman. He takes the time to answer all questions and doesn't make any one feel stupid for asking. Allows you to text him questions as well. Exams are very fair and review for them is excellent (he'll tell you exactly which problems to focus on). If you wanna improve take his class.

Scheiman was a really good teacher. He always answers everyones questions even if he already answered something similar a few times. Lots of the quizzes he gave ended up being take home to boost our average which is a plus. I would definitely recommend taking this class because everyone felt comfortable asking questions. Prof Scheiman is the guy you want to have for Precalc. I got a D in 111 but with Scheiman for 112 I got a B. He always makes sure the whole class understands before he moves on in lecture, and really tries to help everyone succeed. He's corny as anything but is a genuinely nice person who jokes around but also thoroughly explains the material.

I would definitely take his class again. Hes a nice guy and gives extra credit. He grades fair with quizzes and his exams are hard, but they completely prepare you for the final.

I have nothing but nice things to say about this man. He made a difficult class a little bit better and he is very generous when assigning final course grades. He doesn't just take into account the grades you received but your improvement as well and he really does not want to see anyone fail. Go to class, take notes, study!!!!!

I sincerely beg to differ with the negative comments listed by others in light of the recent final exam. Prof. Scheiman is the proverbial GOAT. He will bend over backward to help all students. I was in this 151 class and those who are complaining did not come to class or were on their phones during lecture. Start studying and stop complaining!

Genuinely cares about his students both passing the class and fully understanding the material they're being taught. Keeps his lectures interesting with funny personal stories. Intentionally makes his midterm exams harder than the final exam (made by the department) but it's so that the final ends up easier by comparison.

He is a great teacher. When he work on a math problem, he would teach you his thinking process, which is important, because the same thinking process can apply to different problems. Our class start at 6:00PM, but he always came in early around 4:00, if you have questions, come in early and ask him. He's always available.

Prof. Scheiman is the best professor I've had in my 5 years in school. Professor Scheiman teaches a very difficult class but its not his fault. The Rutgers math department prides itself on ranking and has a 40% fail rate. He's a great professor and person who keeps students engaged in lectures and does the best he can to make the material somewhat interesting.

As tough of a subject Calc 1 can be, Professor Scheiman would definitely be considered one of the best professors to take this course with. Material is pretty dry, but all sections are taught the same way. Take Him! The material isnt impossible but it can very boring and difficult at times. He does a great job explaining things and answers every question with a good response. Extends homeworks at times and quizs are ok. Exam 1 is ok but make sure to study for exam 2! There is a curve but it depends on how people do on the final.

He was an excellent professor and took the time to break down difficult concepts and show lots of examples without boring the class. If you practice the problems, do the homework, and attend lectures Bs and B+s are very possible. However, the math department sets the exams so an A requires a little bit of extra math ability. partial credit on exams

I just wrapped up Calc 151 with Professor Scheiman. He is by far, the best professor I've had. His energy, excitement, and passion for teaching math is clearly evident in every single lecture. He strongly encourages participation and wants to see us all succeed. His exams are NOT difficult, as long as you STUDY the material. TAKE HIM!

I took Precalc112 online, but even then he made an effort to meet us & know our names. I had failed preclac112 once before with a D, but Scheiman is great a teaching & very inspirational, so I passed with a B- !!

Scheiman was the best professor I have had so far. He truly cares for each and everyone of his students and makes learning math fun! He takes the time to make sure his students understand what he is learning, and I am so glad I got to have him as a professor!

He was the most genuine professor I have ever had. He is THE most patient professor and doesn't mind going over different concepts over and over again if you don't understand. He genuinely cares for all of his students and would pause lectures to check in on us. Also incredibly funny. He doesn't stray from the will of the course coordinator though.

He's very enthusiastic and willing to help clarify anything that's confusing to you. He projects his voice well during lectures, so you're actually interested in what he's saying. He goes over conceptual concepts (essential for exams) and was understandable during online learning. Also, he offers extra credit if you correct his mistakes before him!

He is probably the most enthusiastic teacher I've ever had and he genuinely cares about how you do in his class, and is willing to help you out to the best of his ability. Even though hardly anyone turned on their cameras during this semester and only a select few actually responded in class, he remained so bright and kept cracking jokes.

All I can say about this professor is that he is absolutely amazing. He makes lecture so much fun a his willingness to teach math is up there. Youll always find him when you need any help. He is definitely one of the best professors Ive taken and would definitely take him again!

His lectures are enjoyable. He actually cares about his students and makes the material the easiest it can be. Of course, this is a hard class, so you have to come prepared for that, but Scheiman so far is one of the best professors I have had.

Professor Scheiman is one of best Professor at Rutgers not just in the Math department. His personality is what attracts students and makes you wana attend his class. A real gem in knowing how to win students over. Took him during summer so the workload was a lot, but he made all the adjustments he can to help all his students out. Thank You.

This was my first time in a college environment sort of class and it was a very nice experience. The professor is very open to helping people and also loves to crack a lot of jokes. The environment is also very encouraging and I can't help but smile during every class. His lectures are also very clear and it's often easy to understand the material.

Professor Scheimans positive attitude really makes calculus less intimidating. He is very understanding, and he does stick by the syllabus. This course was presented in a very organized matter, and if you put in the work, you will be just fine. He is able to explain topics very clearly, and hes overall a cool guy!

Calc at Rutgers is hard but Professor Scheiman at least makes it bearable. One of the few professors I have come across that genuinely cares about how well each student does. I failed Calc I last semester (same with about 30% of my class) and was really nervous about taking it again. Had a totally different experience with Professor Scheiman.

He is an incredible professor and he truly wants to see you succeed! He made me feel especially welcome and accounted for as a visiting student from another university. I was struggling a bit in this class and he went far out of his way to make sure I performed as well as I could have. He's a funny guy too! I can't recommend him enough!!

If you need to take calc 1 in Rutgers, this is the best professor out there. I only got a low grade because I took him in the summer and I had so much going on with work that I slacked off a lot in this class. Anyone taking calc 1 should know it's not an easy class but scheiman will make it easier and understandable.

Professor Scheiman really cares about his students and acts more like a friend than a professor. His way of teaching is easy to follow and his voice is loud enough to be heard in the lecture hall. Calculus 135 is a difficult class but Scheiman definitely makes it easier!! He also always jokes around and laughs with his students.

Made calculus fun somehow

Hes a great professor. His lectures make calc fun and he genuinely cares about you. However, make sure you pay attention because he skips steps and moves on super quickly. I wish he explained more thoroughly, but thats really the only con. I didnt do well in his class, but thats on me.

Really enjoyed my semester with Scheiman, 354 by nature is pretty tedious and can be boring at times but he got us through it. Really awesome lectures, caring professor, and cool dude. GOAT

Very good professor and made learning Linear Optimization very clear. I would heavily recommend him to anyone looking to take this class. Gives a good amount of prep so as long as you stay on top of your assignments you should get a good grade.

Good professor, open to students, makes little breaks so you don't space out during lectures. Lectures are understandable, lots of examples. Many easy small quizzes. Doing homework and following the lectures is enough to do well. Homework can get pretty long, but exams have shorter problems, so you actually can manage to do them in a limited time.

250 is said to be one of the easier courses, so maybe I am a bit biased. Mr Scheiman was the best math professor I have ever had (I'm a math major). He didn't do anything magical but he explained the lectures with enthusiasm, kept the class straightforward and had a positive & helpful attitude. Work was a bit much at times, I would take him again

Amazing experience. Lectures were engaging and information was explained very throughly. He is very passionate about math and is funny too. Work is manageable, just tedious at times (nature of the material/subject). No surprises at all. One of my top professors I have ever had.

I took this class(intro linear algebra) in summer. He is a such amazing professor. His teaching style is very clear and straight. He always double checks that students understood the concepts before moving to next section. He is a friendly professor. I recommend that he is the best professor for the intro to linear algebra.

I am someone who struggles with math and had to take this second course a second time. I'm very grateful that I had Scheiman as a professor this fall. A great thing is that he is super engaging, and friendly to talk to. He really tried to help everyone, and overall was an amazing teacher. I wish I could have him again, and def take his class!

Scheiman is an amazing professor for a notoriously hard class to pass. While I disagree with the rigor of 115, he was a welcoming, approachable teacher who made me want to come to class despite my anxiety.

Professor Schieman is very approachable. He's very straight forward when answering and is nonjudgmental towards students. He tended to go off topic several times during lectures and doesn't delve too far into the all of what you need to know. Study his material AND the book material AND GO TO RESITATION if you find that you're not getting it.

Professor Scheiman definitely is definitely a good and responsible teacher. His classes are very interesting and the atmosphere is very lively. And he is very detailed in explaining the knowledge points, and he will help us understand the knowledge points through many examples. I will choose him again if I meet him in the future!

HE is GREAT; nothing more needs to be said. BEWARE, HOWEVER, the recitation professor JoAnn Kennedy IS HORRIBLE. Take his class with a different TA. She doesn't even know math and cannot administer quizzes. Verrrrry lazy. Does not go over important things like for quizzes and exams in class and is not willing to listen to student disputes on grades

Very challenging course. Professor Scheiman's banter makes it a lot more tolerable, though his lectures are difficult to comprehend if not actively asking questions. The fact that the only part of the course which is curved is the final doesn't help matters much either. Overall, if you need to take Precalc, definitely recommend him.

Professor Scheiman is great, he can go off topic at times but goes back usually right away. The class could be tough for first year students as I failed my first two tests but started studying more after the second and saw a lot of improvement. I feel like the final was easier than his tests too so make sure you study and ask questions.

A great professor at Rutgers, the lectures was easy to understand & will always take his time to answer questions if you were still having trouble. Even though attendance is not mandatory, students still show up because he makes the class enjoyable, not gonna lie though his exams are harder, but it helps out when you take the final.

Professor Scheiman is probably the best, if not, one of the best, math professors at Rutgers. He is an amazing teacher and his lectures are extremely engaging because he is the funniest person ever. He answers questions clearly and really wants you to pass so reach out for help. I only didn't do too well because of my recitation instructor.

Scheiman was a great professor, he explains the material very well. In my case however, I find it difficult to learn math which resulted in a low grade in the course due to many quiz grades below 70% Despite this, he makes lectures enjoyable and genuinely cares/wants his students to succeed which is sadly not always the case with math profs. at RU.

Scheiman is a great professor. He clearly knows his stuff, and he doesn't BS about the material. He teaches you what you need to know, and thats it. That is good, in my opinion, because you can go home and then learn the material via the homework and other videos. Take him if you are capable of helping yourself.

Took 115 in my first semester at Rutgers, I was worried cause I'm not a strong math student but professor Scheiman made the course so enjoyable. His lectures were extremely engaging and made them fun to attend. The exams were hard if you do not study for the material, but if you put in the effort you will see a return. Most chill professor for pre calc he makes it much easier for students to learn.

Expectations were clearly set in the rubric, that being said he does expect a lot of prep work from students in terms of homework and studying. Exams carry a majority of the weight, but Scheiman's lectures helped a lot, really good at explaining core concepts. He didn't drop the two quizzes, but instead he added one everyone got 100 which helped.

This professor makes the course more lighthearted and is open to questions/comments/concerns. His classes are always interesting/fun to attend. He dropped 3 quizzes, 5 homeworks, and gave the class a bonus 100 on a quiz. The average of my class was a D irregardless. The material/curriculum is no joke for precalc 115. Extremely fast-paced course.

He is a great teacher; however, he has a habit of doing riddles when telling you what yu need to prepare for. It isn't very pleasant. But other than that, how he teaches helps you understand what is discussed.

For basically my entire life, I've never paid attention to math classes. But Scheiman was engaging enough that I actually paid attention once in a while in a math class, which is a miracle for me. And even with the occasional entertaining personal anecdote thrown in, we were still always ahead of other sections and had review days before tests.

I took this course over the summer, I have never been good at math and retook this course. I thought it would be impossible to pass but Professor Scheimann's energy makes it easy to engage in the material. He cares a lot about his students and will take the time to help you understand the material! 10/10 professor.

Student believes that Prof. Scheiman is about the best you can get from a math professor. All of his praise is well earned. The Calc II recitations (as of Spring 2024) were very challenging, but not taught by him. Stay on top of the homework or you're cooked. Very liberal with the grading. He is a very funny man. He owns turtles.

He's charming, funny, and very respectful--but I found myself learning more from my TA (especially regarding content on the exams) than Scheiman himself. Not the worst professor you can get for 115, but definitely not the best.

I took him for calc I at Rutgers Newark. I saw the reviews before my first day of class, I got scared and tried to drop the class. I ended up taking the class with him, I don't regret it!!! He is such a great human being. I really suck at math and I ended up passing. He was good a teaching, he was always asking if we had questions. Nice prof

115 is notorious with a 50% fail rate school-wide, however, Scheiman provides more leniency and character to the average 115 professor. His teaching style helps you understand certain formulas, that build on future chapters/Calc. His joyful and laidback attitude allows him to be more approachable for help. I wanted to switch, glad I did not.

Honestly coming into this class the reviews really scared me, but it wasn't too bad. He is a really funny guy which keeps class engaged but can be sarcastic when it needs to be serious. Drops the lowest quizzes and HW at end of semester. I finished with an 85 and he bumped my grade to a B+. Don't fall behind and get good quiz grades.

This is the best professor I have had so far at Rutgers. Everyday he would enter the class with enthusiasm and created such a loving and caring environment. While the class itself is difficult, Scheiman makes it bearable. I 100% recommend him if you're looking for a good time as well as manage to get an A with some vigorous studying. DO HW & ATTEND

Took his class last year. Love this guy. Easily one of the best professors I had at Rutgers. Funny and teaches the content well. That being said, you will have to meet him halfway. Do the homework, come prepared, and ask questions.

Probably one of the nicest and best professors at Rutgers Newark regarding Calc 1. I learned nicely when I took his class. Most students might not have a compatible learning style with Scheiman, but his style worked for me. He provides study guides that are very similar to the test. He's definitely not the worst, like some people are saying.

Prof Scheiman is one of the best. He cares and really wants you to succeed. Pro-Calc is a hard class (especially at Rutgers), but he is an amazing teacher and helps you understand all concepts. Prof Scheiman is an absolutely spectacular teacher. hes probably one of the best professors u can take at rutgers. hes passionate, engaging, and great at answering questions. i can say i was genuinely excited to go to his class every week. his pre exam reviews were stellar. I thoroughly enjoyed his class & id take him for every subject if i could.

TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I hate math so much, but I loved coming to his class. He is funny and keeps you really engaged. He is such a sweet and understanding person. He also explains the material well too. Also if you don't go to his class, AT LEAST go to his reviews before exams, he makes it VERY clear on what he puts on them.

Professor Scheiman is a great professor. Attendance is not mandatory, and you only need to complete 80% of each homework assignment to receive a 100. He is very enthusiastic, which, to me, made the class more interesting. He's funny, and he grades fairly. If you have questions during the lecture, he answers them well.

Funny guy, great grader, made Calc II fun, 10/10 class. (Summer session moves very fast so if you don't stay on top of your work, you will get heavily cooked).

Professor Scheiman is one of the best math professors I've ever had. His lectures are always fun to attend, and as long as you show up to lectures and ask him questions, you'll pass. He teaches everything that'll show up on exams and quizzes. Just make sure to study. If you don't put in the effort to listen to the lectures, you won't pass.

Prof. Scheiman is the coolest professor ever. First and second quizzes might want to drop/withdraw you, but after those, it would be less difficult. 12 quizzes: make sure to focus on group work during recitation. Two lowest quiz grades will be dropped. 3 exams percent tough. Final exam: 40% of the entire grade. Extra credits exist not much tho.

Great professor! Math 115 is a tough subject to begin with since it's an extremely fast paced precalc so definitely make sure to pay attention, study and attend lectures. His lectures are fun and he's an amazing professor overall. If I could retake him and the class again, I would definitely study more.

Pre-Calc 115 is one of the most difficult math courses at Rutgers but Professor Scheiman was able to present content in a way that was easy to understand. He would always go back and reteach concepts if a student was confused. Quizzes and homework were used to boost your grade. His lectures were always hilarious and he's the best math Prof I've had

SO FUNNY AND NICE. I took precalc 115 w him and he made the lectures rly engaging and explained concepts well. Lectures were never boring. Tests are hard but his reviews were very helpful. He gave us extra credit and would push hw's back for us. Understand the concepts well and practice doing questions often, and you'll be fine.
