he's such a great teacher (aka Dr. Smily)- take his class, its fun, interesting, and he's willing to help anyone about anything- he makes ME want to be a professor!
He may be new to UMBC but he's an excellent professor. Very nice and helpful. Just wish he taught more classes so I could have him again.
He's a new teacher,so he might have been easier last sem, this sem hes not. He is a very nice teacher, but hes very hard. Be prepared to study and read ALOT,because his exam questions are not always easy to read, but only some Q's gets dropped.NOT EASY A!
This person who said that this course is hard is wrong... I have a high A with not too much effort. Dr. Schultz curves all tests A LOT just read what he tells you to read.. Dr. Schultz is AWESOME and very nice and helpful.. Plus he's really hot!! Take it!
whoever put that Dr. S is hard must have never attended class or read anything at all. I did the minimum amount of reading and managed A's and B's on all of the tests- If you go to class and just do some reading youll be fine- an awesome guy!
Dr. Schultz is definitely the coolest prof I've had so far! He hands out what you need to study and he is always using himself as an example. He is the best psych professor ever!!
very cool guy. he's helpful and makes the class interesting but its not an easy A. be prepared to read and study but its enjoyable
BEST psych teacher ever!! he is the nicest and teaches very easily. really easy to understand what he's saying and answers everyone's Q clearly. weekly easy easy quizzes on chapter readings and 4 exams + final which are pretty easy too. he lets u know exactly what to study. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Not an easy class..if you get a 89.99 you get a B...This guy doesn curve at all and questions are sometimes obscure...Take someone else if you dont want your feelings hurt at the end of the semester.
Easy, just read, he tells you what sections to study for the exams
Ok, you guys are all wrong. Schultz is not easy and does not curve, I was very excited about taking his class and I am doing poorly even though I spend hours studying and reading! Questions are obscure. . .be careful when taking Schultz
I thought he was very fair. Weekly quizzes were extremely easy. If you keep up with the readings, go to class, and do the study guide, it should be an A, atleast a B.
Very friendly, but his final was absolutely impossible. He expected you to know exact details of certain things, that were not easily recalled. Study hard and do the reading...you'll be fine. If you're not a psych major, don't take him. I was really interested in the class before, and it wasn't anything like I expected.
He is really nice and he has a great attitude when teaching. Yes his quizes are easy but, his tests are hard. He does curve the tests a little because of questions know one got right. He really tests a lot on the material in the book. So the class requires a lot of reading.
Probably the worst prof for this class. EVER. I thought it would be really interesting, and somehow he found a way to make something cool - violence - into a boring developmental account. He also expected you to know irrelevent details and percentages on exams. Do NOT take this class unless you take it with Anderson.
Really easy quizes, but EXTREMLY hard tests. Dont take him unless you want to study for hours and be disappointed with your grades.
Don't expect an easy 'A'. weekly quizzes are easy but exams are difficult. He won't round your 89.9 to an A. But he is a cutie in that akward professor way.
Quizzes every week, read ALL of the text . Read 50% of it grade = 50% read 90% grade=90%. His class is really 2 classes. One is the Lecture where you can discuss the lecture, the other is the text book, which he WONT go over except as a quiz question. You will need to study both for the exams, IMO this should be a 5 credit course not 3, or fire him.
I loved Dr. Schultz. The quizzes were definatley easy, if you read the book. The exams were easy, if you read the book and came to class. I just made notecards for everything and pulled at 98% on the final. He is super nice, recommend this guy!
A wonderful teacher. If you read the text and study for the exams a little bit (he gives you a handout of EVERY section in the textbook and whether or not it will be on the exam) you should do fine. He will discount exam questions if more than 50% of the class gets it wrong. He's fair and passionate about the subject. Take his class!
super cute and fun to listen to. really loves what hes teaching. quizes easy if you read tests easy if you read and go to class 50% of the time. most comes out of book probably only 5 questions from class. but he makes it a lot of fun!
Was my easiest class this semester-easier than my pass/fail class. All you have to do is go to class and read the book. No extra studying required. Dr. Schultz is really nice, but sometimes can be boring.
He is great! He makes the class get interactive, and grades fairly.
Great professor! Class is easy if you read the book and pay attention to his powerpoint slides. He's really nice and gives extra credit throughout the semester. I would take him again!
This class is mindlessly easy. If you do badly on a test don't worry, he'll curve it. Unless you do really badly, then you didn't read or study. Just read the book for the quizzes (every Monday) and study the review pages online. I stayed for a full class maybe 7 times the whole semester, didn't listen at all, and got an A.
HE GIVES OUT QUIZZES WHICH ARE WORTH 10% OF UR GRADE EVERY MONDAY WHICH ARE EASY. HE GIVES OUT 4 EXAMS THAT ARE HARD AFTER EVERY 4 CHAPTERS YOU COVER. HE IS NOT LEANENT FOR****!! AND DOES NOT WORK W/ STUDENTS. NO, I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM.-CHILD DEV. CLASS
i did well in all my classes except for this one. the quizes every monday were easy, but they weren't worth anything. the exams are 4 chapters for each and are EXTREMELY hard. the questions are tricky and unclear. the final is on 15 chapters! i approached him for help on my grade and he was no help.
Easy class. Just pay attention for the most part in lectures and read the book. He gives quizzes most Mondays to check if you read, which are easy, they refer to examples. And the tests aren't bad at all if you read the sections before.
I feel as though he's a good person but an OK teacher, DO NOT be fooled by the easiness of his quizzes- his tests are WAY harder!! Tells you exactly whats on each test but questions are obscure...I'm in his class now we have one test left and I can honestly say I've read all 15 chapters of the textbook... and his final will cover ALL 15 :(
A nice guy, but a HORRIBLE professor. Quizzes are easy, tests not so much but still doable. Attendance is pointless because all the test material comes from the book. Many questions on irrelevant info. Does NOT like to help students. I decided against adding psych as a double major because of this man. Try to avoid.
I thought this calss was beyond easy. The quizzes are a nothing, i got 100s on all of them and the tests are on a lot of material but they are usually 50 questions for four chapters so its never real in depth questions and he gives a review that tells you wether or not each section of the book will be on the test. gives occassional in class E.C.
Nice guy, blah professor. Quiz every Monday on the reading but not actually about Psychology. Exams cover actual knowledge but questions tend to be vague and unclear. They make you assume a lot but he wont explain futher if you ask him. Tends to go off of tangents and stories. Material comes from the text so attendance is pretty pointless.
As a physics major taking 14 credits of difficult classes, this class was a great part of my week. Just by reading the chapters and listening in class you can easily get an A. Didn't have to study or take notes at all. Somehow, though, the class tended to average like 25% lower than I did on exams, which is strange.
Definitely recommend Dr. Schultz. There are quizzes every Monday on the reading but they are easy and if you read it is impossible to fail. The exams are not bad, mostly from the book and a few things from class. One big group paper but if you have a decent group it's not hard. Changes what things are worth to help grades go up. Easy to talk to.
whoever said he is a horrible professor has not had dr. provine. schultz is the man! he gives tons of extra credit and is so easy to talk to. he'll keep you interested (usually) and occasionally make jokes or tell funny stories. he's awesome!
So easy to get an A in this class if you read and come to class ready to participate. Group paper that is annoying but oh well. Easy quizzes. Tells us exactly what will be on the exams. Have to read a lot though, but interesting stuff.
Would reccommend him highly.
watch out for this guy.. he'll make empty threats for no reason whatsoever.
He is a good professor, class is never really boring, he likes to tell jokes when hes waiting for the projector to warm up. He seems to be dedicated to his field. Quizes and exams are easy, and tons of extra credit!! he also, gives you a list of topics and sections in the book that will be covered in the exams. awesome!
Somewhat helpful, however, if U R late to class for 10-15 mins on an exam day (and not your fault due to traffic), he will not let you take the test, unless you look dangerously enough so that he thinks u'll kick his ass right there and then. A bit annoying and HE WILL MAKE YOU READ THE ENTIRE BOOK! TRUST ME! AVOID THIS GUY! Worst teacher I've had
Great professor. Very funny and interesting. As long as you go to class, read the chapters, and study you should get an A. Weekly quizzes based on textbook readings; very easy though. Exams not easy, not you will do okay as long as you study.
Prof Schultz is a practicing clinician and his stories are based on his experience, so take him seriously. The class isnt made to be easy, you do have to study. Attend the lectures and keep up on the work and it will do you good in the long run if your a psych major.
Dr. Schultz is a pretty good teacher. He is definitly not the easiest, but his quizes are straight out of the book..it's amazing how easy his quizes are.i got a C on every exam because i slept or didn't go to class but read the book, the girl nxt to me got a c without reading the book but going to class. cool guy, played basketball with him too
Funny. Very fair and will knock exam questions off as extra credit if they were confusing or if he didn't teach the material well enough.
Dr. Schultz rocks! He's funny and keeps class interesting. Quizzes once a week on chapters but only on the superficial stuff, nothing that would be on the real test. Tests are multiple choice and he drops questions or makes the extra credit if they seem confusing. Take this class for gen. reqs, you wont regret it.
Professor Schultz is a good professor with a very slight sense of humor. His lectures are pretty boring at times but they are worth going to because some of the test questions come from them. Read the book and take the easy points on the reading quizzes.
Definitely one of my favorite professors! He does his best to keep class interesting, and speaks from experience. His quizzes check for whether you've read the book rather than testing subject material, but the exams are purely on what you need to know. He's a totally relaxed guy and does his best to help you without making class stupidly easy.
Schultz is the man. He always helps out his students and is an all around good dude. I would recommend him to anyone. Im a engineering major and I still enjoyed the class. Just read the book and you will be fine.
He may be a nice person, but that has nothing to do with class. You really have to read everything and go to class. You won't learn anything, except for details you will never need to know for later in life. There is a GROUP PAPER, that counts for about 25% of your grade, and he picks your groups! So be smart and take this class with Anderson.
This course was a bit challenging. The exams are hard but you can retake one at the end of the semester. The class was boring, I had a hard time staying awake. It is possible to pass this class, but you have to work for it. Not your typical easy course.
He expects you to know what you are talking about in class. You do this by reading the book, taking notes from his lectures, and preparing well for quizzes. He cares, and will consistently ask you for feedback. If you don't do well in his class, it is because you didn't study.
Dr. Schultz is a good professor. He expects you to read the book in great detail, no nook or cranny should be missed. He is incredibly knowledgeable and you can tell his desire to see his students succeed is genuine. He doesn't hold your hand but gives plenty of extra credit chances. Read the book, go to class and study hard; that's how you pass.
Definitely a good speaker, very interested in class material. There are lots of extra credit opportunities, usually for participating in grad students' psych studies. Online quizzes for every two chapters, open book and you get to retake one exam at the end of the semester. Really generous in those aspects I think, great class!
Easy A, make sure to go to class, and at least skim the readings.
This section happened to be a hybrid course. It was great only meeting once a week and he makes it very clear what will be on the test and what will not. The lectures required to watch on your own can be somewhat lengthy though.
I took this class over the summer, once a week for 6 weeks. It was fun, lecture can be kind of boring. Textbook was easy to read. Alt of videos to watch at home but the worksheets were easy. Tests were not to bad, but you still need to study for them. I would recommend the class
Really great teacher. Had him for 200 and 342 and he was great with both. Very passionate about the classes and makes sure everyone understands everything. Tests are just what he says and he is very understanding. Worth taking his class!
Get ready to read. I have studied hard for his tests but you have to make sure you read everything in those chapters because some of the answers from the book are apparently wrong. He can also be hard to understand at times and jumps from one subject to another. He is all over the place. Not good at going over the questions in the worksheets.
This class is all book work 48 -65 q's with videos. You can't do other class work bc of his class. Only takes questions of those students that are right in front. He will circumvent a question or out right ignore it if he feels its not worth answering. Neither the prof. or the teachers aid Lisa will answer course content questions. DON'T TAKE!!!!
This course was a hybrid so get ready to answer a bunch of question sheets that include thousands of questions about the chapter or videos. Going to class was basically pointless and you learn nothing new. Basically you learn all of the content online.
Gives exact details about information found on tests.
Class was easy enough until you get to the tests. Tests are unbelievably picky. Many questions tested whether you could remember the smallest detail, for example the year of a court course. He is a nice enough professor but his tests are impossible.
Very good professor and interesting topics. I loved this class. Getting A is not hard at all
Dr. Schultz is very friendly. The exams are fair; you basically make your own study guide by doing hw. Enjoyed the class
Took this class over the summer. Worksheets are graded for completion and gives us the information through his lectures so don't miss class. He makes his lectures fun and loves what he teaches. Easy A.
He comes off at times as frazzled. There are things on the test that were not in the million and ten worksheets. This class was all taught via the worksheets and very little was said in lecture. When reviewing after the test the entire class had to prove that we hadn't covered the material for him to consider making it extra credit. take @ own risk
Had him for winter class. But he was a good teacher but gave so much work that most of us couldnt even finish it. So much reading and bought a book and read three chapters in it. His test are based off readings and what he says in class so you have to attend. I wouldnt take him again honestly, but gave extra credit but it was only worth one point
Dr. Schultz is a great guy and a great professor. I had him for a winter course so there was a lot of required work that needed to be done in a short time frame, however, with some planning it was manageable. The tests are based on both the readings and what ever he focuses on in class will be what is emphasized on the exam.
The class is a hybrid course, so all of the work is done online. Coming to class ins't necessary. There is absolutely no way you can fail this class if you do the homework. The exam is literally questions pulled from the homework and video worksheets. He also gives us a study guide of EXACTLY what is going to be on the exams.
He is a pretty good professor and the class offers a lot of discussions. Gives study guides for exams and everything just needs to be memorized. Lots of worksheets needed to be done and sometimes can be time-consuming. Not a hard class but be sure to do the discussion board and you can get extra credit. Also a cute/goofy professor.
The homework assignments ARE the exams. Studied for exams an hour or 2 before it the entire semester and am finishing with an A. Interesting class, but everything you learn is really from the homework reading and videos, not so much Professor Schultz. Many chances for easy extra credit.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. For a 200 level course it is extremely hard. He assigns multiple online worksheets (with 50 questions) worth only 1 point. He is not accessible outside of class or by email. He makes the TA do everything. You don't learn in class. You just watch pointless videos. You put in so much work and effort for nothing.
His assignments are due at 8 pm like why. I hated this class it was so stressful.
Amazing teacher!! For is class Child Development, There's a lot of online work you have to do, it's not hard just very time consuming. there are 4 exams in the semester plus the final. The tests are easy if you show up to class and take notes and if you study the worksheets from the videos. He also provides practice quizzes for the exams. No paper
Overall great teacher. Material is interesting and the worksheets are graded mainly on completion. He also cares a lot about students and encourages discussion. My one qualm is that the exams could have very specific questions based off lectures, so take very thorough notes and go to every lecture or else you won't do well on exams.
Lectures were interesting, but attendance isn't mandatory if you don't feel like going. The only thing is that example questions from class would show up on exams. Exams were very easy if you memorize all the wksts and he gives a generous curve along with extra credit for the class. He does give a lot of worksheets for homework, though.
Lots of worksheets but based off of completion and answer keys posted after the due date. You make your own study guide by doing the worksheets. Overall great professor! Exams are not bad at all as long as you at least review worksheet material
It was disappointing since I had heard great things about this professor but after switching the class online, the exams changed. There's not a lot of workload in the class overall but he seems to be nitpicky on exam responses after going from multiple choices to free responses.
With the online structure, we had a once a week class, and then we had work due every Thursday, Saturday, and Monday at 8pm. Having it due at 8pm was rough because it's rather "early", but the work wasn't necessarily hard. It was a lot of homework, BUT the homework was very helpful and we could study all the homeworkswe did for a unit for exams.
Dr. Schultz is my MAN. not only did he make this class super fun & interesting, but he is very kind & always available to help you via email. We had worksheets due (tue/fri) by 8 pm for completion. Don't wait until the last second b/c some worksheets can be long, but they're helpful for studying for the exam. I've enjoyed this class so much. 100/10
A lot of hmwk assignments answering questions after reading/watching various mediums. Books & a lot of studies/videos are old. Small group exercises; no presentations, papers, research assignments. Exams are based on learning objectives. Attend class before & after the exams & take notes! Prof is light-hearted, funny, good guy. Good 4 SW/PSYC peeps
Very time consuming--all the course content is in the readings given for the 50something assignments given throughout the week. However, the content is quite interesting. Exams were closed note and a little difficult, but graded on a curve. Videos shown in class are often on the exams. Would take again.
