Cool guy, acts macho. Funny. Runs his class like a university and cares little about attendance. You can slide by with an A listening to his lectures though.
He's deeply facinated with himself. His lectures consist mainly of his ADHD outbreaks, mashed potatoes at the Cheesecake Factory, but if you read the book, you're set in his class.

this guy is stealing money. he puts in ZERO effort. just puts on a video and goes in the side room all class. then, his tests are not easy, all multiple choice. he even left the country for a week in the middle of the semester.
This professor is extremely ****. He makes really rude comments in class about women. He usually puts a video during the lecture hours and does not help with the book lectures. The videos that he shows in class are not always coherent with the subject.
He doesn't teach from the book so you never know what to study for the tests. I think he enjoys showing videos of animals being killed. Doesn't make it a very enjoyable class.
Hes really funny. Attend all the class, take all the notes and you can get an A. I liked him.
If you are not interested in the subject, the classes can be hard. He is a great guy and is very approachable. Love him

The "Professor" really enjoyed talking about monkeys and himself. You should do okay if you read the book and take notes. He shows way too many videos but he tries to keep it fun by telling jokes and bragging about himself.
take notes, take notes, and then take some more notes just to be safe. Requires a project which sends you to the zoo on your own, so be prepared for that. Also require you email your final paper to him and DO NOT tell him you use a mac computer, trust me.
Hardly writes on board. Notes only from lecture. Extra credit available. Quizes have too many possible answers. He himself is very laid back and comes to work to play. Full of useless, fun facts.
took his summer class. No need coming to class b/c the 3 tests are straight from the book. The class consists of his lectures (decent) and videos (pretty boring). Can't say it's an easy A but if you read the chapters you will definitely do well enough.

Took his class over summer. His tests are all from the book so there was a lot of reading. Very easy to get an A, the tests are all curved and 85% and above was an A in the class. The guy is very smart but unapproachable. If u take this class and are willing to do some reading you'll get an A.

This professor is a really dorky looking guy. He is very unclear with his lectures and can be really mean at times. I dont recomend anyone to his class
Interesting lectures, unfortunilty his lectures have nothing at all to do with his tests, his tests are all from the book, which he never talks about.
Schutzer rocks. The material is tough, but he makes it fun. It's too bad he's stuck with the book he uses. Some of the chapters are well written, but other must have been written by the proverbial monkeys and typewriters (Be care repeating that to the two Pierce professors who wrote the book!)
Waste of time and money. There were MAYBE 5 lectures the whole semester, the rest of the time he ran videotapes that had no bearing on the tests. Unapproachable and not very nice.

Horrible teacher!! Don't take him if u don't have too. He never lectures all he does is show videos and gives out a stupid zoo project which is a waste of time and money. He likes to make fun of people and calls them stupid! He is not a nice person. Don't take him!! His tests are long and hard.
Very arrogant teacher. Gets highly angry if a cell phone goes off or someone is talking. Shows film "The Hunter" that had everyone in class crying over the animal abuse or walking out because of it. Wants student to have specific computer programs to email homework to him despite cost. Stressful
If you like self-study this is your teacher,however, if you are hoping to learn what he will give a test on, good luck. I got an A...study book. Definitely a no non-sense teacher who is extremely cold.
He is a good teacher, don't get me wrong. But his tests do no relate to his lectures, only in the book which by the way, he never talks about.

I would have to agree with the people who left the last 5 comments. His lectures have nothing to do with whats on his tests. Very arrogant. Can sometimes get psychotic over absolutely nothing. He once told a student that he should become a garbage man for showing up late.
I disagree with all the previous posts. His lectures have everything to do with the test. Go to class, take notes. When it is time to study for the test, study the sections in the book that he mentioned in his lectureS. I've taken all his classes. BEST TEACHER. sit in front for an A. TRUST ME.
He tended to drift off topic VERY often. Also, little things would set him off, like a girl leaving early. I think he should focus more on test material than whats in national geographic...be hes a good guy :-P

In my class a cell phone went off, no one admitted to it cuz he had scared people with his "never ****me off" stories, so he forced everyone to bring their phone up, and during the film he punched in info in everyone's phones to figure out whose phone rang. arrogant. states some untrue facts. rude

He didn't talk a lot about anthropology. He drifted into talking about different things and students in my class were very bored by him. A lot of the students dropped the class too and i wish i did too. He didn't tell us what was on the test either.
He's really nice and knows what he's talking about.
I got an A on the midterm just by reading the assigned chapters. I rarely attend class--he is incredibly demanding when it comes to everything except learning the subject. He's petty, impatient, and generally bitter over his station in life. Avoid.
This class is not easy with any professor. But, with Schutzer its very straight forward on how to get an A. READ the book (even the sucky parts), study the keywords at the end of the chapter, attend class, pay attention, and be civil in his classroom. Fan his vanity for bonus points.
I took this as a summer class. Found his lectures funny interesting and the exams fair. I paid attention in class and did the reading-which went a long way to be prepared for the exams. Dry sense of humor.

Terrible professor. I couldn't stand attending his class. When I was able to force myself to attend, I didn't absorb any information that I wouldn't have attained by reading the book. Thankfully he grades on a heavy curve, thus most of the students are able to pass the class. He seems to be very disinterested with teaching..
Pretty straight forward, if you take the class serious, read the book, and bring half a brain you should do fine.
Rarely lectures, videos are pointless b/c they are not on tests. Only because he has a heavy curve is why anyone actually passes this class, would not recommend him to anyone and for the zoo project just get all the info online.
It's a really easy class. Just do the reading and study and do the reaction papers and you've got an automatic A. Plus, he's nice and has interesting things to talk about.

Very knowledgable. Contrary to previous comments, he is not just randomly angry with the world; he has cancer and is going through chemo for chrissakes. Don't take his occassional snapiness personally. Do the labs, read the book, and you'll be fine. Note: Bring a jacket. He keeps the room freezing.
He's by far the hardest teacher I've ever had. I failed his class and I tried so damn hard and I studied all the material. He didnt even tell us what to study for on our final just gave us 8 chapters to go over. He wouldnt even talk to me about my final grade.
Fellow students, Schutzer sucks. He is very very arrogant, chauvinistic, and insulting. Not a nice teacher, please I advise you to stay from him by all means.
he comes off as a hard teacher but in reality his class is fairly easy. if you take anthro 101 with him check out the website that goes with the book because 60% of his test questions are straight off the practice quizes. he's pretty funny and keeps the class interesting

Stay on his good side. If you do your work and come in on time and turn off your cell phone, he will like you. He is really nice if you get to know him. The class is interesting and he knows what he is talking about. I got A's in all his classes. 101, 102, and Lab. Overall good teacher!

This is a really easy way to get credit for a lab class. Most of the grade is based on one project that you work on the whole semester so you dont have to worry if you do bad on the final as long as you do good on the project.
Very unclear, I love anthro and didnt learn a damn thing. It was disappointing. Very nice guy but all he talks about are his own life experiences, which usually applies to nothing in the class. Tests are hard and you get nothing out of his lectures. 10 reaction papers by end. Doesn't take attendance (he says he does but no) Take Stein if you can.
Took his class SP-2K6. he is not very clear. when you ask him questions he will just refer to the book and summerize what is there. there is EC but not enough to raise ur grade very high. there is a zoo proj that is tough but the trick is use ur book! there are 3 tests. no drop. and its on a normal A=90%, B=80% scale. he is a good guy though.

A nice man with a good sense of humor and were always willing to help. Lab projects were easy and fun. His grading system is fair if not a little on the easy side. Final exam was more difficult than I had anticipated.
He is the worst college teacher I have ever had. His is no help when you ask him questions and he even gets upset when you ask them. I use to be interested in anthropology untill I took his class.

Hard mid and final have to read every detail in the book to past his class ...funny videos but besides that this is a hard class will not be wanting to take him anytime soon.

This professor is by far the least helpful teacher I have ever had. He blabs during class, expects you to read the entire text, and his tests are all fair game. He does not tell or teach you what you really need to know. He is lazy and does not like his job and is far from giving a damn about his students. Take someone else
Horrible professor, watched videos from the 1970's that could put the most studious person to sleep. Rarely ever lectured, gave little preparation for the tests, and much of what he did give ended up not being on the test at all. Have to drag out information out of him, in order for him to do his job. Not an easy class, especially for freshman
Locks you out of the classro0m when you are late, does not give a ten minute break (I took him over the summer and had a 2 1/2 hour class with him) stops the lectures and stares at you as you walk out to use the bathroom. Loves to embarrass and humiliate students when they ask questions. Overall angry & rude. CLEARLY hates teaching.

His lectures are useless, don't bother coming to class. Just READ the book and take the online tests, his tests are based off those. I never showed up for class, took Anthro 101 over the summer and got an easy A.
Lectures are kind of boring and some of the movies are very boring. The textbook…sucked. It was like reading an encyclopedia, just fact after fact after fact. His tests are very hard; covers a lot of material, the curve's HUGE, so you can still probably get at least a ‘B’ on the test. Zoo project enjoyable, who doesn’t wanna go look at monkeys?

Honestly as a person I liked him. I thought his lectures were interesting but some of them really didn't have much relevance in the material. I took this class in summer session B so it was ALOT of reading. He does curve which is really what made me pass his class with a C. Be prepared to read!

If you are into being treated like a child then take him. He literally made a "cell-phone jail" and MADE us put our phones in it a couple of times. Tests are everything, and are ridiculously hard. You need to READ A LOT. The curve is generous, but still not worth it. If you like anthropology then stay away because he will make you hate it.

This teacher is whatever, but his tests are ENTIRELY based on the book (at least for 102). Definitely read the chapters and you will do fine on the test. Seriously, if you read the book and do the papers, you will get an A. If people failed this class, it's because they are lazy and want to blame their lack of effort on the teacher!!

The class was really easy. Reading is important, I didn't always do it, but managed an A in the class. He's funny, and shows lots of videos.
To do well you MUST READ THE BOOK! His lectures only touch on the reading or clarify some you things. He WILL ANSWER QUESTIONS. VERY knowledgeable on the subject. Interesting lecturer and funny but starts showing boring movies later on. Tests are not too hard if you have read and they are CURVED. Must visit the zoo for an easy project.
This teacher should retire. He is rude and completely disinterested in teaching. Not one day did he complete the entire 2 hours of a summer class. He left to go surfing. He simply doesn't hold up to his end of the contract whatsoever. If you want to learn Anthro take ANYONE else. I emailed him to explain my frustrations and he never responded!
This professor's lectures go by quickly because he rarely covers what is needed. The book is essential! As long as you turn in an assignment and read the book, you're fine. It's not difficult to pass especially with the test curve. Lectures are entertaining and knowledge filled, but not pertinent to the test questions. Watc for VERY ambiguous ?s.
I took Anthro 101 over summer. As long as you read the book, you'll do fine. I stopped listening to his lectures and starting reading the book. He also gives a HUGE curve on the test. Take advantage of the extra credit and read the book. I got an A :)

He is very particular of how he wants things done. When students don't do then right, he will rant and threaten the class. It gets old, but don't take it personally. You need to read the book and the lectures have nothing to do with the tests. Don't get on his bad side and don't argue with him since he will always think he is right.
Prof. Schutzer's lectures are entertaining and funny but are totally irrelevant to exams. Read the book and do your reactions papers and you'll get an A. If you get anything less than that, then something is wrong with the student. This class is really easy. Just do the work.
this is a great class for people just looking to fill up space in their schedule. i literally only went to class for tests, test which i never studied for. i usually ended up with like 50% luckily his grading curve is so crazy that i ended up with B's every time. also gives a stupid zoo project you can complete just by googleing everything.
Mr Schuter is not so bad. Exams are not so easy,but study the online questions from the textbook (www.mhhe.com/stein9) and you should be fine, thanks to the way he curves them.

Schutzer was the worst Anthropology professor I have ever taken. Not only was his attitude rude and insulting, but he limited any classroom discussions and questions. I LOVE Anthropology, but his class nearly sucked all the interested out of me. I later took Stein and passed with a solid A. Do yourself a favor and avoid his class at all costs!

The class was really easy got an A. The teacher is pretty chill. no need to go to class just come the first week. he curved the tests which was really nice of him. overall,just study from the book and website he gives you and u'll do fine.
The class was easy, just read the textbook and you will do fine. He curved the tests and skipped some chapters, which was really nice of him. Just show up the first two weeks of school and then its not mandatory to come the rest. Do the study guides online which helped a lot!
Fairly easy course. All you have to do is READ READ READ the book. Prior to the exam, the chapters that it will be focused on will be mentioned, so just study those chapters and you will do excellent! Lectures are not so relevant to the exam questions. All questions from his exams are EXACTLY from the book!

Just checked my grade, got a C for this stupid, pointless class. My fault for not being able to afford the book..basically buy the book and read it if you want to do well in this class. I guess borrowing the book from the library for 2 hrs is not enough. His lectures have nothing to do with anything.
Easy A class so long as you read the book and do the online practice test questions. He's not a bad guy at all, it's just his lectures aren't exactly the greatest in helping you on the test. I suggest taking him, but be prepared to read a lot.
Do NOT be late to his class. He will be insulted and I understand him. His quizzes are easy if you study the material- DO NOT try to "wing it!" He is a nice guy and as long as you communicate well with him, you will have no trouble in this class. I definitely recommend him. Great, great guy!
He's a great prof, you don't have to go to class but it helps. Pay attention to the videos because he ask a lot of questions about them. Read the book before the lecture so that you know what he is talking about. He gives weird extra credit, like for following him on twitter, but he never post. The best part is that he grades on CURVE!!!!
I took his LAB. Biological evolution. Weird guy. Takes this way too seriously to be enjoyable sometimes. Didn't get as much out of this as I did with Stein or Rowe. His LAB final will kick your butt. The Zoo trip was a nightmare. Had to return 3 times. He even reminds me of a monkey with his mannerisms. It can put you off somewhat.
He's hilarious. Good teacher, too. Not the easiest, but if you read the book, do the work, and pay attention you'll pass. Be on time! The class was really interesting, lots of videos, and fun environment. You actually LEARN in this class, so be warned :P
Awesome teacher, grade very leniently. GET TO CLASS ON TIME!!! He hates it when people come in late, so save yourself the embarrassment and get there a little early. Reading is mandatory, the only way you'll get an A, really. After the first 2 weeks you don't necessarily have to attend but he does show films that come up on tests. Great Teacher!!!!
No one really ever understood what he wanted from us. He always says to look at the syllabus to answer questions, but he doesn't even follow up on the grading system. He's a weird guy, but gives huge curves. Tests are hard but all from the book.

The lectures are interesting but do not relate to the exams. Read the book, do the practice tests online, and you really have to memorize the material in the text. His grading curves are insane which just tells me that the teacher/teaching style isn't cutting it. He is really unhelpful. Take the subject w/ another prof.
Great professor and an amazing person. Subject is intersting; however you have to read the book carefully. Mostly memorization. Requires much devotion of time if you take the course during summer. Attendance is important. Video worksheets are extra credit. Be respectful in class and participate in the discussions if you have any questions.
HORRIBLE! Professor he screams and never ha time to talk to you. expends a lot o his class and lab time and his I pad. when you approach him to ask for your grade he jut smiles and says nothing back. he is rude. take him if you care about your GPA. or want to be guessing how are you doing during the semester in his class.
Pro. Schutzer is a very intelligent, accomplished professor, however he is a poor teacher. It is manditory to go to class, but the lectures are kept brief so the class can get to the lab. He wants to go home as soon as he can, and it is very hard to ask him questions and get a clear answer.
