I dreaded taking microbiology, but he makes the class so much fun and interesting. I am a senior and he is the best prof i have ever had. Just be sure to attend class and stick to his study /exam guide and you are guaranteed at least a B. He will make sure you never look at fast food the same way again. I would take his class over just for fun.
Challenging teacher. He knows his stuff! He really wants his students to learn. 2 labexams-study topic sheet & intro to each lab. 3 lecture exams-study your notes & topic sheet. Don't procrastinate! Essay questions are CAPITALIZED LETTERS on topic sheets. Final is 100 MC/no essay. no grades dropped. Very funny, not boring (unless u REALLY hate bio!)
Dr Schwartz's lectures are very understandable. He puts everything in simple terms and provides examples for you to understand the subject matter. Pay attention to his topic sheets and put in some time to study for the exams. You learn a lot.
His final were 90 questions from his old exams and 10 questions from chapter 18 that is all in the topic sheet. when he gives your exam back, make sure you remember the question and answer (as much as you can) so you can remember for the final. final is double weight. last rating explained everything well. you will do great if u dont procrastinate!
He's a bit officious, but if you can see through that, it's an alright class. He knows what he's talking about, and his lectures are interesting. Hearing him lambast Intelligent Design gets annoying, after all, nobody likes a one-sided debate. But really, who is he trying to fool with that combover.
IF you really want to know your materia, he is the one, he takes his time to make the class interested and his test are basically your notes, so take many notes and u will make an A
he's such an a**hole he sux!!! He ruined anatomy !!!!!!
He is the best teacher i have ever had. Clear and gives GREAT review sheets! TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!
He is an awsome teacher, and a pleasure to have, that is if you are a dedicated student. If you like blow off classes, he is a no-no. But if you are eager to learn and commited, you will learn everything you need to know about biology. Awsome, that how i can describe him.
He is one of the very best professors I have ever had!! He is very knowledgable on the subject and is incredibly passionate about it as well- which comes through in his lectures. He makes learning fun. Not an easy A- you have to earn it, but he clearly explains the material, and gives study guides (VERY HELPFUL!) to prepare for tests. A++++ Prof!!!
Teacher is very knowledgeable, however he makes the class harder than it really needs to be. He teaches the class as if it is part of a Master's degree program. Study guides are helpful, but alot of information to know and @ least 2 essays required on each test. He is very picky when it comes to what you write in your essay. Lab is very easy.
has a mastery of subject matter. Study guides very helpful for exams. study hard and you will earn an A.
One of the best damn science teachers I've ever had and probably the best HCC science professor in the whole department. Really cares about the success of his students. Topic sheets make studying a whole lot easier. Just make sure not to fall behind with the workload. You'll have to work to make the A or the B. A+ professor!
A++++ instructor. Makes subject matter interesting.
great teacher
He was very outgoing, self-absorbed, but easy. Everything was explained to a T. and you didnt have to worry about anything like pop quizzes or material that was discussed but should have been. Plus he's really hot....Muy CALIENTE!
This class was really hard. The key to making a good grade was stuyding the topic sheets. If you know each think inside & out, no worries. Do the labs, they will help your grade--but try not to make to many errors, he loves to take off points. The essay questions are usually in bold. Coming to class didnt really help, just study the topic sheets.
If you need to take Mircobio, take his class. Experienced professor and he knows what he's doing. He's also strict about procedures and rules but overall, he's a great prof.
GREAT PROFESSOR! Really knows his stuff because he's worked in the field for several years. Very interesting lectures - you won't get tired in class! Makes learning extremely fun. You will have to work in his class, but he's so worth it. Best Micro Teacher Out There! Take him.
He's hard on us b/c he wanted us to learn. He's strict and sometimes I hated him. He tells corny jokes but its so bad that u'll remember it for the tests. Tests were hard for me esp. the essay parts. If you want an easy A dnt take him. If you want to learn and willing to work EXTRA hard then take him. had C's in tests but w/a B avg. :-) dnt knw y!
work hard to make an A. best micro teacher though; one of my best teacher ever. love him.
He's really hard but if you want to actually learn I would recommend him, he knows his stuff and will tell many different gross but interesting stories =]
Makes you work for your A. He will explain everything he wants you to learn, but it is your job to go home and study that information and know it. Easy to get along with, just don't make a bad impression by not showing up or leaving class early.
very knowlegable teacher, however, makes his test so hard that you can lost your love for biology. won't recomend him to anyone who wants an A. but if you want this class for a general knowledge, this the right teacher.
I learned a lot from this teacher. His tests may be a little challenging, but it actually tests your knowledge. Be sure to attend to his lectures and labs, take GOOD notes, and you will be fine for the tests. I would highly recommend Dr. Schwartz.
GREAT TEACHER! made me love learning about microbiology becasue I actually learned alot from him! he teaches you things you need to know as a health care professional!!!
This teacher is AWESOME! Best professor I've ever had! Keeps Microbiology fun(believe it or not.) Takes an interest in his students and gives motivation to those who try. He gives you everything you need to know to do well, you just have to study it well. Great study guides. Learned ALLOT. Especially valuable for future health care professionals.
Simply amazing! Can't describe him with any other words! First teacher I ever have that makes Biology FUN!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND him!!
Great teacher! *TEACHER* being the key word. If you want/need to learn anything related to BIO this is the professor you want to get. If you aren't serious about it (not BIO major) you should reconsider. VERY challenging exams with no curve in sight. I'm not a BIO major but I still enjoyed the challenge. Studied 50hrs per test (at least) for my A.
Dr. Schwartz is funny, funloving, extremely intelligent, and loves Microbiology. But, he is very strict in what you learn. No easy reviews for tests, you must know the material, which is not bad, but very hard. So much to learn in Micro. He is very willing to help. If you can deal with silly stories every class, I definitely recommend Dr. Schwartz!
He's a very nice professor, however i had to drop his class in the middle of the semeater because he doesnt cut you any slack, I mean if you reason with him, then maybe.. but either way his tests were complicated and mostly the wordings that made them hard, this is not an easy A class if your looking for something like that...
I took 1406 with Mr. Schwartz in Spring '09. He is simply amazing! Okay I am the only one who got an A in that class, BUT he is the best teacher I ever had! I worked REALLY hard for my A! Trust me you'll love him! My friend didn't like him and she said that he favors me because I'm the only "A student" but I don't believe that! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
The most amazing professor I've had in HCC. He teaches exceptionally well. The class requires you to study your notes and book thoroughly. This class is not, I repeat, is not for procrastinators or careless people. Eyeopening examples given in every class Last day is the worst, you'll wish you were able to be taught by the professor all over again.
I've never met one person who liked this teacher, quite the opposite. Is he deleting bad reviews or writing his own? This teacher clearly stated to the class that he sees it as his duty to weed people out of the nursing profession. If you have a job, other classes, kids or any sort of life...find a better teacher, who can teach efficiently.
Is he deleting bad reviews or writing his own? This teacher clearly stated to the class that he sees it as his duty to weed people out of the nursing profession. If you have a job, other classes, kids or any sort of life...find a better teacher, who can teach efficiently and more effectively. Nice guy though.
He is def. not easy, but why should it be if you're going into Nursing? You're going to be dealing with this type of stuff so don't think it's something that you shouldn't have to take seriously. If you think that having kids and other courses should make him more linient towards you then I pity you. With that type of attitude you shouldn't be trus
-ted with other people's lives in the first place. This is only community college, I wonder how you're going to fare out in a university, & that's if you make it.
EXCELLENT professor, really cares about students, very encouraging, goes above and beyond, exams are hard. Didn't earn a good grade but totally not his fault, gives you everything you need, learned more than I expected to, will take him for 2420.
I won't lie and not say he isn't good a teacher because he is. Although, if you are not into nursing this teacher is too detailed and will require alot of time outside of class. I studied alot for his tests and managed well but his final exam is a killer, its too detailed! good luck i you take him, you will learn lots but I just wished someone woul
Take him, if you're a nursing major! He will teach you everything you need to know. The exams are hard and towards the end it can literally burn you out. 3rd exam, lab practical and final all within the last two weeks. He gives you the information you need but you will still need to read. Alot of studying required!
so the final is very detailled. he is a good teacher but if not into nursing do not even take him. It's too much time consuming and his tests the wording in itself is hard! nice teacher but i wouldn't take him again.
He is one of the hardest teachers i have met till now in HCC. He has alot of favoritism. He Will support and help the students who are getting good grades. He knows and teaches the material well but is not easy. He will make the test so hard. Many students i have met have not liked him.We had only one student who got an A.
LAB exams are easy...Just study the figures in lab manuel and the titles of each exercise. His exams are hard, as you really need to be good at rote-learning. He can be really mean at times, esp if ur grades are barely passing..So watch out...other than that, his lectures are real nice..
Read the book and you should have no problems with the test.I was able to make a D into a B. I stupidly made an F on an undroppable practical exam So i kissed goodbye to an A. Biology is not my major So i didn't try, if i did then A would be obtainable.I took his class for fun and enjoyed it. READ and listen to lectures closely. Grade A Teacher!
Man this class really made me suffer. He is sooo corny. His tests are very difficult. we had 3 exams, 3 lab exams, and one final. man i swear i read that book cover to cover and made a B. i am proud of my B, i would not take him again!!!
This is simple... you want to learn Biology take him but you have to study, go to class, do all the labs... I took him for Microbiology and so far I consider him the best professor at HCC.
TAKE HIS CLASS! If you need visual and real life examples to learn, he is perfect! You deffinately have to study hard and attend class in order to pass his tests, but he is the most effective science teacher I have ever had. I am HORRIBLE at science and he makes it pretty understandable. Plus, he's from New York so he doesn't have a thick accent.
This teacher is my inspiration! He is an active biologist outside of class, which makes him highly intelligent in the field. He can answer ANY biological question you may have. BEWARE: if you are not adept at critical thinking, then you may fall short on his tests. This teacher is committed to your learning, so he will have no problem helping you.
Great professor! You have to go to class & study but he is great at teaching!
Dr. Schwartz is an amazing teacher! Please understand though, he is much different then most HCC teachers and that may be the reason for his split reviews. All the information needed to EASILY ace his class is in his crystal clear flawless lecture (lecture means lecture, no pwpt!).Unlike other teachers, however, the rest is up to you! Take notes!
HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE!! VERY DIFFICULT....BEWARE
I like the teacher a alot, but hes very difficult. I studied for hours and still will get a bad grade on my tests. Do not recommend for summer session. More than half the class dropped already!! He still used the 16weeks test for a summer class impossible pass our highest grade was one B!! the rest where c and less!
very difficult. He takes it way too serious. His exams are very difficult. I wouldn't recommend this professor.
I am posting a comment only to help students to choose the best professors. I am a good student, my GPA is 3.75 so far, and I do not recommend him. He is nice,a very sweet person, but when I think of him, and I still do, I can only come with the conclusion that he is not a good professor, he does not know how to make you understand it.I am sorry.
Well, if I tell you that about ten or more students dropped his class, what would you assume by it? So, be careful!
Excellent professor. If you really want to learn take him. He is not easy. Forget about easiness on tests, but everything he'll put on the test he will lecture and explain it several times if necessary. You have to take good notes and he almost dictates his lectures so if you do not tke good notes is because you're lazy. Definetely recommend him.
Extremely difficult! I've taken him for Biol 1406, & by chance had him again (devastated). He is a nice person, but doesn't know how to make students understand his material. His ramblings make it hard to focus. Healthcare majors; beware. You want to grasp the material and use it later, but at the same time be able to get through the class!
Okay, I had posted a comment when I had just finished hes class and now I'm happy I took hes class. Everything on A&P its so much easy now, because I learn in hes class. Thank you doctor and im so sorry for the bad reveiw I had gave you before.
Amazing professor! He breaks everything in micro down into real life so you can understand. He's hard but so fair and he makes you learn! Plus he cares about his students and doesn't BS them. Take this class before A&P and you will breeze through them.
You won't find a better microbiology teacher. Critical thinking is a must. It is an upper level science course so it is difficult but can be accomplished with effort and persistence. One of the best teachers I've ever had.
By far the best professor I have ever had, and I have been in school long enough to obtain a masters, now on to my PhD! Take good notes and you will do fine. I never wanted to miss his class. I took the class 6 years ago and still remember the mayority of the material covered because he provides thorough real world examples.
Dr. Shwartz is an intelligent man that still practices microbiology outside of teaching but because of this, he expects his students to know almost as much as him. Only take him if you are good at science. He has o sympathy for students, no curves, no extra credit, not even points if the scantron made a mistake. His tests are extremely hard!!
Fair Warning to anyone who is looking for an EASY A! NOT THIS CLASS! Dr. Schwartz is an amazing teacher,I love his teaching style, I am taking the summer session, I knew starting the first day that in order for me to pass this class I have to work really hard, DO NOT expect this class to be easy, but you will surely learn a lot of things.
I had the pleasure of taking Dr. Schwartz this summer. He is extremely intelligent and is passionate about what he teaches! I thought the tests were fair. He goes over everything on the test in class and gives a topic sheet which is like a review. He makes it more than possible to make an A. He is also very caring and kind. I am glad I took him
Dr. Schwartz really knows his stuff as a microbiologist. As a professor, he was very difficult and taught straight from the book. If you didn't understand a part of the book and asked questions, he would refer you back to the book. He feels it's his duty to weed students out no matter how hard you try. Wish I could have learned more from him.
Dr. Schwartz is a very good professor; keep in mind this is a second level science course so STUDYING is mandatory. Take this class if you really want to learn microbiology; it is a very CHALENGING course.
VERY good educator! He really knows his stuff and presents it in a way that is easy to comprehend. Interesting lectures. You have to go to class to take notes because his tests are straight from lectures and not at all from the book!!! If you want to learn micro from a real world perspective take him!
Dr. Schwartz is an amazing, visual, funny science geek! <3 He does his best to try and teach you in different ways to help you understand the material. Come to class, do your work and ASK QUESTIONS, don't be shy like me!
A great teacher with a velvet voice, a passion for the subject, and a true desire to succeed by having his students fully understand the material. That said he can be long winded and can talk down to students. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Study, study, study. You won't get the grade you want without some serious time commitment.
Great professor, difficult material but he tries to get students involved and interested. Tests are hard but he's very helpful and if you study and come to class you will be fine
very hard class u could have been to. he is a very very hard teacher. pls run run run from hi calss.
very mean instructor. do not have a will to help students. stay away from his class.
The class was full at the beginning. only half of students finished. I don't think the positive comments were from students. Get away from his class, you will suffer, believe me. I had an excellent grade and he killed my GPA.
He's a really knowledgable professor that makes complicated concepts more understandable. When taking this course, make sure you understand the material (not just memorize). Also, background in chemistry would be beneficial for this course. Class was tough but manageable
I took this course in Summer I and there were lots of tough material to learn in a 1 month span. However, Dr. Schwartz was very optimal with his time when going through the course materials and thorough.Nowadays its rare to come across quality professors like Dr. Schwartz. Although this course was tough, you'll actually learn useful information.
Great professor. Take advantage of his course(s) while he is still teaching.
It's microbiology so you have to put in some work. By far one of the best professors and classes I've had. He gives study guides for all exams-do them and show up to class. He is really enthusiastic about micro and it translates when he teaches. Lectures can sometimes be boring, but it's a good class,
He is the best instructor who teaches the real science. Nobody can do better his job. I have never had the teacher better than him.
I passed the class with a 76 which is really bad for all that I studied. The class was full at the beginning and there were only 9 students at the end. Only one person made an A. His lectures are long but all he talks about are stories about his life and family which are funny but irrelevant to the course and defenetly to his tests. 7 test total
Do not take this class! I promise you'll regret. More than half the things he goes over in the class isn't on the test and you have a total of SEVEN tests plus labs. If you want a good grade don't even bother.
The material cover on his tests is no where to be found and I mean NO WHERE. Not on his lectures, no on the textbook, not even ONLINE!!! Maybe some where on his head but he's not willing to share..
Professor Schwartz is a nice man but terrible teacher. Literally everything he teaches isn't on the tests. Class is pointless. I order to pass you have to teach yourself. Oh, and you have 2 freaking final exams. Unless you want to be a bio major take him. If not stay away
There are tough professors but they make it feel like your exams seem affordable at the end. Microbiology isn't an easy course, it requires devotion of time and effort. Hints for survival are taking good notes, and study them at least 2 hours a day. Best professor for this course
highly recommended! The information in Micro is detailed and difficult to understand on its own, he is very clear, helps to make sense of everything, will walk you through it if you need to and provides comic relief at the same time. Has extensive knowledge on the subject and is very interested in his students success. Tests based 95% on lecture.
The best teacher to take on the though subject that is Microbiology. His style is a bit abstract but is clear and thorough on what he wants you to know. Excellent over all professor that knows his science like he would put it "backwards and forward". Be ready to study so take good notes and what ever you do don't miss class!!!!
Micro is a tough class, but if your going into healthcare he is the best option. He gives you very clear instructions and has everything you need to study for his tests on the learning web. Tests are 95% what is on his topic sheets for that chapter. I studied off my notes mostly, taking good notes is essential so don't miss class!
He is really hard not because of the material cover but because his test are really hard to understand and have very little to do with his lectures
Professor deffinetely catches attention of all student during lecture. Be aware, he covers about 95% of his tests in lecture, but he is very tricky. Sometimes, he asks question that is so simple that it's silly, but sometimes he wants you to be specific to the smallest details. Besides tests, he enjoys essay questions. He is very knowledgeable
Schwartz is extremely passionate about Biology and it shows in his lectures. He is very funny and makes class interesting with stories but his sense of humor may not be for everyone lol. He is very respectful as long as you reciprocate. He really does appreciate it when students do the work. And there is ALOT of work. no way to get around it.
Lectures are interesting and his humor makes them memorable. You can tell he likes Biology. If you ask for help he is there but he expects you to go through a lot of info -- doesn't skip chapters even at end of semester. LOTS of reading. I couldn't do it all but if u work hard it's possible to get an A.
Passionate prof. made class enjoyable! Loves class participation and enthusiasm. Class gets harder towards end. Tests are not easy; req. true understanding, not just memorization. Wants thorough lab reports and concise essays. Test wording often tripped me up; read carefully. Learn from exam mistakes, important later on! Will miss.
He is the best professor that i've ever had. the most inspirational and knowledgeable person i've met in academia. he has a real love for what he teaches, and it shows.
Professor Schwartz takes his lab class seriously and he wants things to be done precisely. There are 2 Practicals and those are the ONLY grades you will get in the class, the lab exercises you complete will go toward extra credit on the practicals so make sure to do well on those and submit on time! Pay attention, do the work and you will pass.
you have only 2 tests in this class so you mess up once and you are done for. the quality was pretty bad - most of the labs never came out right so he would just tell us how it should have looked. he explained the material pretty well but seemed a bit full of himself and liked to complain about the school a lot. not cool.
Takes 30 min to say what could be covered in 5. Feels more like being given a bed-time story than sitting through a college-level course. Half the class topped showing after 2nd test when they realized the disconnect between lecture and exam. With how much he complained about course changes it's like he wanted us to perform poorly to prove a point.
Has lots of real world experience in the field of Biology and is clearly an expert. People would ask the most random questions in class and he would hardly need a moment of thought in order to give an informed response. He also knows how to teach and make lectures interesting. If you listen carefully you will hear hints of what to focus on for test
Dr. Schwartz is AMAZING, a God's gift to students. He has an old fashioned way of teaching but damn right he knows what he's doing and you'll be grateful he cares as much as he does. He's not accommodating and will play favorites, but since i learned so much and have so much respect for him that idc as much. LOVE HIM BEST TEACHER EVER.
This professor has all the qualities and knowledge that a professor needs to have. In my second week itself I decided to take him again before he gave any test. Lectures are long but you don't want to leave early either. I am glad to be his student before he retire. He a dream professor. His exam questions are mostly thinking not just memorizing.
He's one of the best professors I've had so far. His lectures are interesting because he always relates them to his life experiences. He likes participation. He will bump your 89 to an A.
he loves the subject of biology but be prepared to sit there and hear him talk about anything and everything. He can get off topic but he is very knowledgable. Test are hard but the practical exams are easy, study everything in your lab book especially diagrams and labels. For the lecture exams, study everything and i mean EVERYTHING.
Dr. Schwartz is an amazing professor! He shows passion in what he teaches and really knows his stuff. Be prepared to do a lot of studying and pay attention to ALL of his topic sheets! I will be taking his Bio 1407 in the fall.
Prof. Schwartz is a funny professor. His lectures are long ( summer class ) and he goes off topic a lot. Yet, that's when you want to concentrate the most. When he goes off topic, it's to give you a simple real life example of what's about to be laid out in the book. Notes. Exams are slightly tough. Do the pearson practice tests, and you'll be fine.
if you are not ready to read pls don't take his class. His lectures are very interesting and inspirational but very different from the exam. He definitely knows his stuff and highly knowledgable. If you decide to take him, don't give up, you might be doing better than you think.
He is the professor you want to talk for Microbiology, especially if you are going to nursing school. Lectures are long, but filled with necessary information that will be on the exam. He uses his personal experience and jokes to make the material easier to understand. Exams are not hard, if you study. Great professor, great summer semester.
I have never worked so hard. His class is very lecture heavy and missing one class means you may be missing out on information for 2 or more chapters. Exams were over 8+ chapters which became overwhelming and the exams dates are too close together. He does know his stuff and is passionate about it but he expects too much.
I believe other professors, across all science subjects, should learn to adopt his philosophy of teaching.
No quizzes or tests to guide you in preparation for final exams. No extra credits as well. you are just in a maze, and have to find your way out. He skips necessary chapters which you have to read up for exams. I would not recommend him especially for international students who pay out of pocket. Do not take this class for Microbiology!
it was a terrible learning experience. I wonder if his professors taught him the same way.. no exam guides, no quizzes, he skips chapters. He complains about everything, even complains about the very text book he recommended BY HIMSELF, for his class. save yourself the trauma. half of the class dropped half way
Dr. Schwartz is an amazing professor that shouldnt be taken lightly. His lectures are specific and are all according to the textbook he uses, in this past Fall semester it was Talaro. TOUGH TESTS. Always follow his topic sheets and study STUDY STUDY. I took the class lightly and dont do as well as I couldve. Always read the book and study!!!!!!
His exams are incredibly hard compared to the rest of the scientific corpus. With that, his lectures don't actually give you information for the tests, which mean you will have to read the entire book and remember everything in order to have a decent grade. The people who stayed until the end of the semester were those who couldn't drop.
I take him for a dual credit class and i look forward to his class. Yes , his test are hard but he is willing to help and answers any and all questions. He takes time to know each of his students and tells stories to help understand hard topics. Make sure you study , and not just the night before an exam.
If you can not read all day and night, then run! He assumed that you know everything. Whatever he mention in the class never come out in exam. He is super happy when you fail an exam. Take if your grade is too high and you want to BRING YOUR GRADE DOWN. No extra credit and never forgive misspell. Take and ruin your grade.
RUN! Half of the chapters we were responsible to teach ourselves. A couple of lectures on videos that are long. Tough professor that assumes that just because you are wanting to study health sciences that you should already know everything about biology. You will be teaching yourself. His test are very hard w/ confusing options. Don't take him!!!
If you want a teacher to teach, Dr. Schwartz is not the teacher for you! You will mainly be teaching yourself about 5 of the 16 chapters youre supposed to know. He gives no homework, no quizzes, no extra credit! You simply have to take notes from the lecture but still teach yourself from the book. His lectures are full of stories and jokes!
Tough class! All the things you do in class carry equal grading weight, even the final! The lecture can be really boring but if you listen to him it is really interesting the way he explains stuff. if you get an 89 he'll give you an A! I got an 88.6 and he gave me an A... Overall, if you're a health major, this guy should be your go-to!
Dr. Shwartz is one of the best bio teacher you will ever take, bio 1407 is not easy live with it. You have to dedicate time and effort. But, Dr Shwartz explains concepts clearly backed up by story from his experience which makes the class fun and non-orthodox. You want to understand biology take him. but if you are in for the grade dont take him.
To be honest no one cares about his stories, seriously just teach, give us proper reading material for the tests and create a comfortable learning environment, but no this know it all is not a good professor.
Dr. Schwartz is a very tough professor. Get ready to read at least 16 chapters. He skips chapters and if you ask questions he will just tell you to read the charter again. No extra credit just 3 exams and teach your self. Do not take his Professor.
He talks a lot but his lectures don't help you for the test at all. I had to take him for second summer because they changed my prof last minute and there were no other options. I wish I dropped him because his tests are hard.
Best professor ever!!! this class is no joke. 100% recommend him, only for serious people who want to learn! if you are looking for an easy A this not for you. This professor is an old fashion one of a kind and it is sad to see so many bad reviews about his teaching only bc we don't like to learn and we want only the easy stuff :(
Teaching style is out of date, he teaches as if all of us don't have to work and can strictly focus on going home and trying to teach ourselves the material. His exams have barely anything to do with his lecture and his study guides. THERES NO HOMEWORK, PROJECTS OR QUIZZES. Graded only on exams, makes it impossible to make up your grade. It's lazy.
If you want an easy A, this class is not for you. He is an amazing professor, I have never learned as much as I did with him, You have to study and it Is a lot of information. Take his class serious and you will do good. He is the BEST professor I have ever had. I would recommend him 100% if you really want to learn and work for a grade.
His class takes time but is very worth it. You don't really need the book tbh. Just carefully listen to his lectures & all of the test material is there. He has great stories to help you remember the material. Calling his lectures boring is a disservice to the effort that he puts in to help his students. One of the best professors at HCC. 1000/10
Good at what he does however he teaches you a very old syllabi. He teaches you what he thinks you should know and not what you need to know. Let me warn that the departmental exam is nothing like what he will teach you because he won't teach you that. Exams are old papers that are reused .Oh yah. Same one I used. Read with the topic sheet. Use it.
He understands that this classs is difficult and he wants you to not just to pass it but to understand it as well. He listens to you and helps you realize/ understand the answer but mostly why this is the answer. All biology classes are massive puzzels and with a professor like David you may change your major. I think about his class after 13 years
