He makes a very interesting subject even more interesting because of his humor.

He knew my name in a 500 person class. He is awesome

Very good professor. Do the extra credit though
Come to class on movie days, it WILL be on the test!
he makes an effort to know names in large lectures, interesting, and has a sweet pompadour
A really nice guy, has large lectures and makes effort to get to know people and tries to make class as fun as possible.

Funny, good teacher. Notes online.

I love Dr. Schweingruber. I think he makes the class very interesting and bring up good discussion points and really helps people to think about things clearly. I know he's made me become more open minded. I would definitely recommend him for Soc 327.
Very straight from the book in lecture, but puts a nice spin on lecture with a lot of discussion. Material is very easy to understand after lecture.
I wouldnt call him funny, more of a dry sense of humor that only he thinks is funny. Has a lot of test questions from the lecture. such as "according to lecure I said..." **Make sure to do the extra credit.
THE BEST!!
Lectures are very interesting and keep you listening. I learned a lot in that class...good prof
The best teacher I have ever had. I love his class and his teaching.
Cool teacher, gets the crowd into his conversations, if you go to class and study even a little bit or night before exam, you will do fine. Need to buy book and his T.A. is hot fine chic. ONe of the reasons why I actually went to class. Great class.
Best. Bar none. Fair, balanced. Challenges you but helps you along as well. Great class discussions. I wish he taught all my classes! Learned a ton.
not impressed with his class at all, didn't find it fair to include minute details in the tests, i went to every class, but was still unable to get all the little stuff.
Make sure you pay attention to the lectures because they are a big part of the exams. Good prof. Made the atmosphere a little more light. Fun class to go to.
He's a funny guy and has a lot of information, which you have to pay attention to for the tests. As long as you go and pay attention and write down some obscure facts, which are needed for the test, you'll do fine. I recommened taking a class with the Grub.
Very straightforward. Not hard to get an A if you go to class and read the assigned readings on time.
very good at explaining what is going to on test and makes lectures clear. Takes time to get to know as many people in a big lecture class as he can. very wiling to answer questions
He's a good guy, brings up some very interesting points about sociology. I recommend this class because it's decent and he's just nice guy who loves teaching.
I really like this prof! He has funny stories and makes the class really interesting I thought. Just make sure to read the book before the tests.
So I dont really understand why everyone likes this guy. I think he is boring, and his tests are not easy like everyone says!
I didn't mind this class at all. I went to most of the lectures, but didn't for it. I did good on all of the test without reading. For the tests, he has notes online. I would suggest studying those and looking over the photo essays and micro-macro connections in the book. It's a fairly easy cla
Schweingruber's class isn't as easy as people make it sound. Half of his tests are questions like, "according to lecture I said..." and the other half is stuff like, "according to the article blah-blah in your textbook..." t could be easy if you dedicated quite a bit of time to it. A hard 100 class
Very good professor. Definitely as easy A if you attend the lectures and actually read the text book. If you don't plan on doing that, don't take Soc with him. Good material, keeps the class interested 95% of the time. Tests are difficult if you didn't study. If you study, good prof.
Very weird. Says MMMMMMMMK all the time!! His tests are kind of hard for a 100 level class because the questions are way too specific.
Wow this class had a lot of assignments, but I found him to be very understanding and helpful in you getting the most out of the class
Wayyy hard for 100-level class! If you want an A, make it to lecture every day and study the micro-macro texts and the research texts in the book. Class is very boring & information is common knowledge, but is hard to remember because it's so easy.
Arrogant - pretty full of himself. He lets the morons comandeer the classroom discussion.
Mixed bag... Although I think he did a good job teaching a huge introductory course, some of the lectures were really dull and some test questions were ridiculously specific. Still, with a good set of notes and reading the text, it's easy to get an A, plus he offers extra credit. Like others said, he let gomers take part in class discussion.
The most interesting class I have taken at Iowa State. I had a great time doing all of the assignments and the class discussions were a blast. I never missed class and read all of the assignments on time. If you study the study guide, memorize the terms, and ask questions if you are confused about the writing assignments you will do fabulous.
Awesome guy, loves what he does. He loves discussion, and kept my attention throughout his lectures. Moderate studying is useful, but don't kill yourself.
Tests were definatly too hard for an introductory class.
Very interesting class. If you just read the book and pay attention in class its an easy A
This professor is a sack of**** anyone who has him beware! I took his class and did a volunteer project, there was mis communication over it and even though I did the paper he gave me a 0 on it. he then went to Iowa state officals and claimed I misled him now I have to go to isu court!!!! He loves to fail ppl his a raging liberal!!!
Very interesting and intelligent. You still have to study to get a good grade, but overall its a great and interesting class.
I found the class and tests to be generally easy, but his lectures were sooooo boring. I found very little motivation to actually attend class since his slides were online.
He's a good professor and does his best to keep lecture interesting with movies and clips from "The Simpsons". He loves sociology and is always interested in new ideas and opinions. The textbook is awesome and the tests are easy IF you do the reading and go to lecture. The class project is easy, too (I did a photo essay = fun).
He made the class harder than it needed to be. The material was interesting but he explained it in class more on a grad level. I learned more from his note than in class.
Tests are about 70% over lectures and about 30% over the book material. I never read the book, and got about 70 percents on the tests...so that's what I'm basing this on. Lectures tend to be a little on the boring side, depending on the topic, but I'm not really interested in sociology anyways. One big plus is no comprehensive final...THANK GOD!
Very good teacher, easy to understand, involves students in class discussions
Good teacher, fun to listen to, tests are easy if you go to lecture and pay attention. Those stories he tells about his family during lecture will probably be on the test.
very interesting lectures i really liked going, you can either go to every class and skim the book or go to no classes and just read the book, either way works
Interesting book, easy reader. Lectures are interesting also, sometimes a little long. Funny guy and pretty genuine.
Not bad but don't fall behind. Make sure you get all the points you can outside of the tests.
Fairly interesting class. Not a big fan of his grading. Each test is 25 percent of you final grade, so you cant do bad on any of them to get a good overall grade.
I like him as a teacher and I've learned a lot from him. He usually keeps class interesting and we often get out early!!
Amazing class!! Very interesting, the book is one of the best textbooks I've had to read so far! He posts the notes but usually not until way later. Tests aren't too bad, just go to class because on the test he will put "according to lecture..". Also, make sure you know the "Micro-Macro" sections in the book. GREAT CLASS!I reccommend it to everyone
Good professor, attendance is necessary, because you'll get asked questions on the tests that were only covered in lecture. The book isn't too bad, just know the terms for each chapter as well as the micro connections, and you'll do fine. Mini-essays were a breeze, as well as the project. I recommend taking him for this course.
GREAT professor! The one class I actually wanted to come to, and it has nothing to do with my major! Readings are very interesting and the in-class discussions are fun! Read the summary notes he posts online before the tests and it's a guaranteed A! I learned a lot from this class and would recommend everyone to take this professor!
Very nice and interesting. relateable
His lectures were sometimes interesting and easy to follow but other days it was easy to lose interest. The only downside of the class was he made the tests pretty difficult so you have to study to do well.
Very easy to relate to what he is teaching but tests are very hard so just have to study, but dont have to go to class :)
Really informational
Very interesting class. The tests are slightly difficult because he often puts in tests questions that are from lectures,so I would strongly encourage attending class. You should frequently check his website on any articles he puts up because he will put those on the tests. You should either take notes or go to his website and read his key note
Dr. Schweingruber is one of the best teachers I had all semester! His lectures were interesting and I loved going to class. The homework is really easy and is only about once a week, turned in online. I am not a sociology major because of this class.
great professor who gets to know his students even in a lecture class
The class was extremely interesting, but the tests were very difficult.
Unlike some of the previous reviews, I found the tests to be very easy! To get an A all you have to do is attend class, study lecture notes day before test, and maybe read micro-connections in the book. Class was interesting, but I felt like more material could have been covered/emphasized. The text book is a page flipper and fun to read!
Class was interesting, and tests were easy. I skimmed the chapters, went to class. If I didn't go to class, I just read over his powerpoints which are all online. If there's one thing I dislike about class, it would be the journals, but it's not like they're hard to do. Love his Simpsons clips.
Class was interesting during the first half of the semester...started to cover topics that seemed irrelevant/unrelated to the class after midterms. Tests were hard and are 3/4 of your grade.
The tests are only difficult because you need to know literally everything, relevant or not. Even if a tiny bullet at the bottom of a PowerPoint slide doesn't seem important - it probably is! Also, there are weekly journal entries that are fairly difficult to get full credit on. He tells a lot of stories, but usually class seems to drag on.
The class was interesting but it was just hard to know what to study. The tests were very difficult to do well in because it was over the book and lecture. You had to know everything to do well. The journals were a grade bump but only 1/4 of the grade. The tests are the other 3/4
Very nice guy and genuinely enjoys the subject. Tests are usually quite easy if you read his overheads. This is a heavy reading course: 1-3 new articles for each day of class. Also, you have to write a total of 6 papers. He takes a ridiculously long time to grade everything. Very flexible with students on due dates/deadlines.
Dr. Schweingruber is a good teacher. He is very open to student class discussion which made the class enjoyable. Article and excerpt readings of 2-3 per class period, but the class was easy as were the tests and the readings were interesting and relevant.
Dr.SCHWEINGRUBER lectures well on a boring subject. Lots of reading with a weekly journal to turn in. Tests are impossible
Love that there is no attendance. Tests are very hard, even as a major who has taken the classes this course is required for prior to taking this class. Very specific. Large focus on the book but not needed for the lectures, just test and journals
Go to class to get a better understanding of material. Must use book for tests along with tests include examples from class. He is also flexible and willing to work around problems if needed.
He is a great prof! Very nice and informative. The tests are easy if you read the book and go to lecture.
Really interesting class if you attend lectures. The key is to PAY ATTENTION. The majority of the test questions are small things from the lecture. The tests are super hard, but getting good journal grades will boost your grade up. Overall a great class.
Great lecturer, kept topics relevant and interesting. Had to read (or at least skim) the book and attend lecture to do well. Glad I took the course and suggest it to others.
Interesting class...tests are a little difficult if you don't take them seriously
He was very easy to listen to and he kept his lectures interesting. I enjoyed his use of Simpsons clips. The textbook readings are a bit dull, I just used the vocabulary in the journals and passed them. He's a pretty cool professor
This class was required for me to take and I absolutely hated it. You have no idea what is going to be on the tests and they are near impossible. Class was never interesting and trying to take to notes was near impossible. The journals are the only thing that kept my grade somewhat decent otherwise I would have failed.
very cool dude and very cool class! The concepts aren't hard if you pay attention and actually do the reading. He uses examples from the Simpsons quite often to explain concepts and it's very entertaining. He is also a very nice guy to talk to. He's the reason i declared my soc minor.
Keeps students interested in the lecture
GOOD GUY
Pretty good class. He keeps it interesting with simpsons clips and interesting lecture topics. His tests are really hard but if you do the journals and pay attention in class it isn't terrible
Very easy! Definately would reccommend this class. Do the study questions he gives after each lecture before the test and you will pass easily.
Best professor I've had to date. Very clear and has a definite knowledge on what he's giving you. You have to pay attention though because he goes into detail about his powerpoints, but regardless, he's a great professor.
Awesome professor. He post slides online. Super helpful. Super easy assignments. Loved his class.
Great teacher! Read the textbook, go to class, look at the slides and you can easily pass the class! Interesting professor too!
He's a really nice guy and his lectures are very interesting, there is a weekly Journal that is only 250 words (not complicated, you'll be fine). The only problem is his exams. You have to take them in the testing centers and for some reason I did horribly on all of them. You literally have to study EVERYTHING or you won't do well.
He showed up late everyday but he was one of the only professors I had that didn't put me to sleep right away. The tests were impossible unless you studied a lot. But the journals were super easy and helped my grade a lot.
Very good teacher! The tests were easy if you studied a little bit. The class is curved so it was not hard to get an A. He makes the lectures entertaining and has been my best professor so far.
Easy assignments but very hard tests. He uses all the lectures to push his liberal agenda. Very frustrating and boring.
Lectures were interesting some days, journals were easy points and picture project was basically just completion points. The exams were difficult even after studying, most of the questions came from lecture specific examples used in class.
He was an okay professor. His lectures can put you to sleep because he only uses graphs on some days. Otherwise as long as you look over his lecture slides (posted online) and are familiar with the studies in the book you should be fine.
Really simple class to keep up with I never went to lectures but did the journals every week, read the book chapters (they're relatively short) and skimmed over the lectures before the exam and ended up with a B in class. Lectures aren't that boring to go to though bc he tries to cover interesting topics
This class is a great GPA booster. Going to class isn't required and as long as you go through the study questions at the end of each chapter and do of the journals then you should get a good grade.
You get to watch The Simpsons in class.. what more could you ask for..
Easy to achieve an A. Only 3 tests in a semester and a few projects to get points. If you do weekly journals, it's another way to get easy points. He tries to make lectures interesting by including Simpsons clips and making the material relate to college students and Iowa State. A good class to take that doesn't take up a lot of out of class time.
Soc 134 is a pretty easy class. Attendance is not taken and the concepts are easy to understand. To get an A, you have to get to 240 points, which ins't too hard if you complete the weekly journals on blackboard. Many of the test questions do come from examples he uses in lecture or from the study questions of his lecture slides. Overall very easy!
Dr. Schweinbruger is an amazing lecturer. He makes all of his lectures crystal clear and is entertaining at the same time- there is a reason they let him teach so many students at once, because he can keep their attention. You get the grade you want in the class. There are 370 points possible, and you only need 240 to get an A. Also- no textbook!
Good professor. Kept the class entertained
his lectures are interesting and they don't get boring, but the tests are really really hard. the weekly journal get annoying but I would way rather have the journal assignments than take quizzes all the time like the other professor's class.
Uses clips from The Simpsons to illustrate sociological ideas. Hilarious! Lectures are always interesting.
Dr. S is a good professor. There is no book so you should attend class. He will post his powerpoint, but many of the test questions come from things he says during lecture. Journals are due weekly and are usually an easy 5 pts a week. I would take this class again.
Easy class that also is informative! He tells you at the beginning of class what is available for projectsassignments to do over the semester, so you can easily plan what you want to do to get an A in the class. Lectures aren't required but you should go to most. Tests are not too difficult if you do light studying.
I thought the tests were tough in this class. I usually got C's on his tests. I really liked going to lecture because he was funny (without really trying to be) and I found the content interesting. He gives a lot of supplement assignments (such as campus lecture journals and other projects) that you can choose to do in order to get more points.
He loves his Simpsons clips, but they really do help illustrate the concepts. Everything was easy to understand, the exams didn't have any trick questions and assignments were all easy points so long as you completed them. He grades based on points rather than percentage, so you just need to plan what assignments you want to do.
The tests are hard in the sense that he pulls questions from subtle places like the weekly readings and anecdotes he says in class. However, the lectures are really intriguing and not boring at all! Also, he gives nearly up 100 points possible extra credit so there is absolutely no reason why anyone won't get an "A" in his course. PS. I skip a lot.
Easy class. Lectures are fun.
David is an amazing teacher. He specifically mentions not having a textbook in order to save students money, among other things. He's there to teach you the subject, not take your money. His lectures are pretty much optional, study from the questions on the slides and you'll pass, with or without class. He's kinda cute, too, in a nerdy way.
Incredibly easy class if you keep yourself organized and do the readings. Tests are really easy and questions taken right from powerpoints, but some random questions from readings. Hardly went to class and got an A. Easy to pass if utilize projects.
Schweingruber, relies on his TA's more than anything. If you email him, I highly doubt you'll get a response. The only way to talk to him, is if you talk to him in person. The class is simple. Do your projects and you'll get the grade you want. If you want to pass the tests, read the articles and power points. AND study.
This class is ridiculously easy because there are so many points available to get an A. His lectures can be a bit dry, but the Simpsons videos can be funny. Tests are manageable, journal entries every week are easy, and a few optional projects are all there is to it. If you're looking for a GPA boost, take this class.
Professor Schweingruber always did an amazing job presenting the material in an engaging manner. I want to be a sociology major now! He related much of the content to everyday life, and talked about relevant issues. Students are allowed to choose from course projects to earn the required points. An easy A. An awesome prof.
The curve is so big that if you get 75% of the total course points you get an A. I went to the first week and never went again and still got an A.
Maybe it was because I wasn't interested in Sociology, but I really did not like this class. It made it hard to get out of bed in the morning to go because all of the lecture notes and assignments are online. I thought the tests were difficult and boring, but if you do the extra lectures and journals, you should be fine.
Class is very clear with grading. There are many options to get the points necessary for an A. The tests are pretty tough so I would recommend doing different projects and the weekly journal to get points too. Going to lecture isn't mandatory. I never went to class after the first week and got an A. the lecture slides are on blackboard anyway
A lot of my classmates thought the professor was bad, but I enjoyed every lecture he presented and if you pay attention, you will pass. He takes the beginning of every class to explain what you need to be doing, so there should be zero clarity problems. You can tell he's interested in what he talks about and if you like sociology, you will like him
Attendance isn't mandatory and there is a set points grading scale which is nice because you control your own grade. The lectures are interesting and if you go to class and take notes you should do just fine. A lot of people who don't go to class don't do well and don't enjoy the class. It's a fun class & the material is interesting if you like soc
David is an awesome professor, and you have to be trying to not get an A in his class. You will only need 75% of the total points to receive an A. It is not very hard, so DO THE WORK AND YOU WILL GET AN A. Attendance of lectures is 100% NOT NEEDED because he puts the material online. Sometimes the lectures can be funny and interesting, though.
Posts all of the lecture slides online. You choose what assignments you do to get your points. No need for a textbook.
Nothing is "required" so you have to do everything on the syllabus to get an A. All the notes are online so you don't need to go to class but it's helpful. If you make a study guide out of all his study questions in each powerpoint you will do fine
I went to class twice lol. attendance isn't mandatory to pass, but if you want an A or a B you should probably go. The exams focus pretty heavily on the reading (which I never did) and the lectures (which I never went to). Good professor who tries to make things as understandable as possible
All you have to do to get an A in this class is get 30/50 on all of the exams then complete all of the homework outside of class. many project opportunities that allow you to perform poorly on exams and still pass with an A. Take every chance you have to complete these assignments. Very easy course, the exams can be rough though, study a quizlet.
Professor Schweingruber's class is really easy. All the assignments are worth a certain amount of points and you only need to get so many points for an A. I didn't even have to take my final exam. All the slides are online, so you don't really need to go to class.
This class is super easy, and you almost have to try to not get an A. As long as you do the assignments you can get like 70% on the tests and still get an A. I only went to class once this semester and ended with a good grade. He is very opinionated, but just focus on the lecture slides and you will be fine.
The thing about this class that's both awesome and incredibly frustrating at the same time is that I never went to class and still got an A. You don't really gain anything from the in-person lectures, as Schweingruber posts the PowerPoints online. Honestly, just do the homework and remember to take the quizzes and you'll do fine.
He has a super monotone voice and it makes it hard to pay attention. His powerpoints are very bland and poorly formatted. The test questions are overly wordy and rarely make a lick of sense. He also constantly makes tone-deaf comments on almost everything and is frankly annoying. I went to his class everyday and I can say it didn't help.
It's clear he actually enjoys sociology. His lectures may not be the most entertaining but he is very good and clear about what He's teaching. Not much homework at all and the tests cover exactly what he talks about. You don't necessarily even need to go to lecture to pass, but David is a great lecturer.
Often goes into to much detail during lectures causing class to drag. Test are okay, just study the questions he gives at end of lectures. You can skip classes and still get a good grade, but dont skip all of them cause he sometimes put lecture notes up late and you need to write a journal every Wednesday.
Point-based grading, only have to get 240 points. If you do well on the 3 exams (50 points each) and weekly journals (5 points each) you will have around 225 points so you just have to a project or 2. Lectures are somewhat interesting but attendance isn't necessary, exam questions are straight from the slides which he posted after lectures.
Class is not mandatory and it is still very easy to ace the exams if go over the lecture slides a few times. Although class is sometimes fun. Dr. Schweingruber makes it very east to get an A in his course as well. Very easy class where you will still learn some interesting things!
Schweingruber was a solid professor. All the points in the class are optional (technically) so you choose what assignments and projects you need to do to be successful. Attendance isn't mandatory but his lectures are interesting. Learned a lot and enjoyed this class!
The professor was hilarious during lectures and also tried to make them entertaining for students. Attendence and assignments in this class are optional, you only need to get 240 points to receive an A in this class. There are multiple ways to obtain these points (exams, extra credit, etc) Easy soc class that I would recommend to all ISU students.
Everyone should take this course. It not only is entertaining but is interesting. The professor is fair and tells you how to get an A the first day of class. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Easy class to get credit for. Really don't have to go to class much as there are no participation points in it. Just do the projects and the journal articles and you'll be fine. Tests aren't too tough as long as you read over the slides and study alittle before you go take it.
He's a charismatic speaker and explains the topics well. It'll be tempting to skip class as there are no attendance points, but don't. Some test questions discuss in-class examples that aren't found on the notes.
Schweingruber is passionate about sociology, and you can tell he enjoys it. It's easy to pass this class, but there isn't any incentive to show up to class. Nobody pays attention and everything is available on the slides. All the work is pretty much done outside class. Exams are okay, just study his slides very carefully. Overall, its an easy A
Part of what makes this class easy is that David is a great lecturer. I took this class online, and his videos were still engaging through a computer. He offers a wonderful glimpse into such an interesting topic, and does so in an easy-to-understand way. Some answers are only found in lectures, but it was a good class to take online.
Really easy class if you want an easy A. Lectures are not mandatory but really interesting. I would recommend doing the projects and journals if you don't want to study the tests.
This professor is very easy going. He doesn't talk much with the students, even though he tries when giving lectures to interact with them. Everything is extra credit and so easy to get an A. However, when is comes to tests, make sure to understand his lectures and the main point of them. You don't have to study so much (excessively).
very unclear, speaks about unnecessary topics in class. puts slides online but on exams it is off of what he says verbally in the lecture. take this class online . he is lame
Prof is nice, he tries to make lectures entertaining but unless you care about the subject its a snooze-fest. Any reviews that say you don't need to go to class are a lie. The exams (worth 50 pts) are covering his lectures and specific things he says during. GO TO CLASS. Optional projects to earn extra points are EASY. Weekly journal entry easy too
Interesting topics and not a bad class but power-points go on and on
TAs do most of the grading in this class so its up to them what your grade will be. Theres a few exams but if you show up to most of the lectures and study a little bit then you should be fine. Attendance isnt graded but lectures are somewhat interesting usually even for non-sociology people. How much work you put in determines your grade.
Very fun lectures, it made the topics very interesting.
Pretty easy to get the points you need to pass the class. The test are kind of hard bc he asks very specific and random questions. Lectures are really boring.
Schweingruber is not a great professor. We were talking about sex and virginity and he said "you're not an adult until you lose your virginity" which really irked me. I would never want to have another conversation with this man, but he is very interested in his lectures. Pay attention and go to class because the exam questions are very specific.
Lectures can be boring, but I would definitely go to class! He posts lecture slides to Canvas, but most of the exam material comes from things he says in lecture. In the slides, vocab words are in blue and there are study questions at the end of the lecture sets so I just studied using those and did fine in the class.
Professor Schweingruber is passionate in what he does. He cares about his students and is easy to communicate with. This class has a super low work load, and is an easy A.
Honestly one of the easiest classes, but most interesting. Attendance wasn't mandatory which I think is really nice although the lectures were fun all the slides were posted on the canvas. Solid choice for SOC 134. You only need so many points to earn a grade. Transitioned to online very well!
Unfortunately SOC 277X is no longer offered by this professor, it was his first run of the experimental class. He is a very enjoyable professor who is truly passionate about his work. Any questions or ideas you have he will always be happy to discuss them. Everything about his courses are well set and made so you easily know how you can get an A.
I took this class completely online. 400 points offered and you need 335 for an A. Of those 400 points, basically none of them require textbook knowledge. Dont read it. Just listen to the lectures and take notes and youll be fine. There are also projects that arent hard. Very easy A; he really just wants students to get interested in sociology.
Honestly don't read the book- you need 335/400 points to get an A, so do 2/3 projects, write in the discussion posts, do the tests, and you'll be fine. I didn't even take the last test. I spent maybe 1-2 hours on this class per week. Lectures are interesting but definitely more interesting being able to do them online instead of in a lecture hall.
Easy class, Dr. Schweingruber has very good lectures though. Not my major but was intrigued and actually enjoyed discussion posts (rare for me)
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! You have to read the book, another book for a project, and extra articles. In this class there is 3 projects but you can choose 2 to get total of 40 points. The 4/6 pages essay I got 0/20 because I didn't have enough details. That is not fair at all!! He said I can resubmit it, but still why 0? Same problem w/other project.
Exams are so hard
The class was fine and lectures were pretty good. Some of the test questions were superrr specific which made them tough but not awful. Missing class will hurt you on the tests. The extra papers/projects you have to do arent worth as many points as they should be or the requirements should be shorter.
Wouldn't recommend this class to anyone. It is about the most specific bs that nobody cares about. You will fall asleep in this lecture every time, garbage.
Very easy to understand and an interesting class! Just put in a little effort, go to lectures and you will be ok. If you show up and do all the assignments you can get an A. It is laid out so you do what assignments you want and need a certain number of points to get whichever grade. So if you do enough assignments to get 310 points you get an A.
I had a very bad experience with this professor. When emailing him a question about my grade, he was incredibly rude and demeaning and did not answer the question I was asking. Tests are difficult as the questions are super specific, going to lectures is important to be able to understand any questions. Don't take a class with him.
He makes most lectures interesting and does post the slides online from class.
I recommend doing at least one (if not two) of the optional projects in this class just in case you don't do well on one or more of the exams. The more work you put in, the higher your grade will be. Projects are pass/fail so it's definitely worth doing at least one for the extra points.
Attendance wasnt required and the tests were based off slides, so it was easy to study. Homework wasnt overwhelming and was graded easily. Clear grading scale.
Easiest Class I've taken, I did enough discussions and a couple of the projects well enough that I didn't even have to take the final exam. Got an A. Tough to find outside of class but the TA's are available and helpful.
Do the two optional projects to get enough points. Pay attention to discussion post criteria. Really attend all lectures it's much easier to follow the course material that way. Professor is fair and easy to understand.
I didn't like how we had to do so many projects to get a good grade. It was a lot. Lots of reading, poor lectures. It didn't feel like I learned anything bc it just felt like 134 again. I also didn't like how prof kept talking about anti-queer legislature as if it was a fascinating study he was conducting. If you did the readings, things are easy.
This class is graded based on points. I would do so bad on all of the tests but did all the discussion posts, went to campus lectures and the projects. It is very easy to get all the points needed to get an A. You also do not need to go to the lectures to do good in the class.
Lectures are boring. Tests are hard and have multiple things we never talked about or that he brushed over quickly and was not in the readings or slides. He just reads off the slides and it is very hard to retain information.
Boring lectures doesn't explain his grading.
This class was very lecture heavy but you do not need to attend lectures to do well. He reads from his slides but he also posts them online. You can get enough points by doing the projects and discussion posts to get an A without doing amazing on the tests, which are very hard.
Tests are not hard if you go to every lecture and take as many notes as you can. I didn't have a whole lot of time to study for the tests and even so I got enough points I didn't have to take the third test after doing 2 projects and all the discussion posts. I wanna say I don't love the professor, but the class content was very interesting.
The exams are harder than what is taught in class. Make sure you go to lectures because many exam questions are related to an example mentioned in class. Ended up doing all the extra projects and things to make up for the exams because it is points based. Not too bad overall.
Very charismatic which can be seen in his lecture style. Very friendly and will help you if you have questions. Posts all his lecture notes for review. Class is very easy and worth showing up to lectures.
Lectures were a bit dull, but if you attend and do the projects, you'll do well. The exams are tough, so use all study tools like unstuck ai to prep. Overall, a manageable class with a fair grading system.
His response to a project I worked very hard on, and to my understanding met the critera was poorly graded and rude.
Just do the discussion posts and go to lecture. He has a grading scale based on points, so if you are happy with your grade you can just skip the final. Not sure how some of his topics related to soc but at least they were fairly easy to follow.
Lectures were boring, the tests didn't follow what we discussed in class. The first few discussions he grades fairly on but after that he seems to grade more harshly with no explanation why. If you don't do well on all the exams the projects are a MUST to ensure you pass the class.
SUPER nice professor! Make sure you go to the lectures even though not mandatory. Exams are hard but the projects and discussions make up for it. If you do enough and well enough early on, you can fully skip the final! Great guy, I just wasn't very interested in the topic because I was taking soc as a general credit.
I wrote a 7-page paper for him and got a zero on it for no real reason. He gave me the chance to rewrite the paper, which I did. I got another zero. His feedback was unclear. I would understand if I got even a 5/20 as a grade, but the fact that I got no credit for 7 whole pages is insane. If you have the option to take something else, I would.
He's a really nice person, but god is he boring. Sitting through him read off slides one by one is daunting. He also makes sure to make tests really weird. He will put his own direct quotes or specific pictures talked about for 5 seconds on exams. Exams themselves aren't bad, but the class and grading scale is designed for you to do lots of work.
The worst experience so far in college was this, Unfair and unwilling to help students Needs to be humbled
I thought I would enjoy sociology because it always interesting but this teacher just sucks. First, he thinks he's funny but actaully isn't. Second, he has no idea how to grade papers and give feedback that actaully helps you. Instead of complaining about AI like a baby, he needs to learn how to grade my papers right.
If you take this class, please take the writing option. You only need to get 400 points out of 520 to pass with an A, with not a lot more effort than just taking the quizzes and exams. The professor himself likes to go on rants about random topics during lectures, so the slides are all you need. His class wasn't hard; he is just a weird guy.
