He's super nice and will try to help you as much as he can when you have questions. He's always in a good mood which makes his early class not so painful. READ THE BOOK AND TAKE HIS NOTES! The exams are pretty tough so missing anything will only hurt you.

Very helpful! Only 3 tests, which are VERY hard, but if you read the chapters, take a look at the online PPTs, and go to class, you can't fail this class. ALWAYS GO TO CLASS, since he gives extra credit opportunities that you'll miss if you don't go. Attendance is not mandatory, but I would always go to class. It will only help. Take him!

I have absolutely no interest in political science. I took this class for as a gen ed requirement. It was at 8 am and I hated every minute of it. I didn't show up to class several times, and I did poorly on the exams. However, I had a ridiculous amount of extra credit from map quizes. I got an A in the class (not even an A-).

Mr. Scott is an awesome teacher. He can relate to students on a personal level but speaks with great authority on the subject matter. He is very passionate about his students doing well. He answers questions, allows class discussion and really cares about what we have to say. He's also pretty easy on the eyes.

His knowledge of law as an attorney is surpassed by his candor in how he presents it. Even if the subject material is boring, he makes it fun and interesting. He is very respectful of differences of opinion on topics and humble enough to amount when he doesn't know, which is rare. I cannot recommend a better instructor for this course.

He is humble, knowledgeable, and simply the type of professor you get excited about just to come to class because he makes it fun. The guy could make a snail on a W-2 seem form exiting! If you don't enjoy learning and laughing, then this instructor isn't for you!

This class was informative, and all information was presented in an exciting way that kept me interested. Prof. Scott is humorous and helpful. He uses real life scenarios to help you better understand the material. The only bad side is that there are only two Exams (MT/FINAL) & they're both HELL on paper...if you don't go to class and/or STUDY!

Dr. Scott is a wonderful professor. You can really tell he loves the material and really wants students to succeed. If you are planning on going to law school, this class with this professor is right for you. Even if you do not plan on going to law school, this class will challenge you to learn more about our legal system.

I have had him for both 330 and 341. He is personable and makes the content very interesting. He went to law school and has a license, so he really knows what he's talking about. Warning-- his lectures are conversations like in law school and his quizzes and tests require a lot of prep like law school, making his classes great but challenging.

Honestly, he's an outstanding professor, but YOU HAVE TO READ. You can't afford to miss class, because you will likely miss a quiz. Don't just skim your readings, STUDY THEM and know the main points because he will make sure you know it. Also, always SAY SOMETHING in class. He keeps track of it and makes you earn it. Get ready for dad jokes.

Dr. Scott tries to inspire his students to love America government. He loves politics with his whole heart and is very passionate about teaching but also struggles to keep his opinions out of lecture. I didn't enjoy his conservative twisting on almost all topics, however he is a good teacher. His class isn't hard but the midterm and final are.

A talented lecturer bringing new thoughts and knowledge to you. He is passionate, humorous and encouraging. The class discussions are the key parts so do not miss a class and do the readings. If you do not do the reading and reflect on yourself, the exams could be hard. I strongly recommend his class to any soul eager for wisdom and joy.

Dr. Scott is really passionate about American government and the class was discussion based. Exams were based on the readings, so if you want to do well complete the readings and note your reflections. Dr. Scott was easy to talk to and told jokes in class! He really knows the material he's teaching. Overall a good professor.

This was definitely a challenging course, but so rewarding! Dr. Scott is a great guy and one of my absolute favorite professors. His classes are reading heavy and discussion based, so make sure you participate. He is super funny, knowledgable, and went out of his way to personally know each student. Dr. Scott is easily one of my favorite professors I have had at UT. He knows every single student's name and does a great job with engaging the class for discussions based on the reading. He also models his class after real Law classes in that there are 3 tests and that is pretty much it. It can be tough but I learned a lot.

I loved having Dr. Scott as a professor! He is so funny and has an obvious passion for politics! He made class enjoyable and fun even though it was online! 10/10 would take again! You have to do the reading and participate to get a good grade- but he's very lenient and cares about his students. His conservative views do shine through hard sometimes

Dr. Scott is one of the most engaging professors I've had the chance to take, his class is legit funny and if you're interested in politics than this is a great chance to broaden your horizons on the topic. The course itself is relatively easy, you're going to have to participate and make sure to READ! He's nonpartisan and an interesting lecturer.

I've taken courses before with Dr. Scott, and I'm really glad I decided to take him again. The assignments and expectations are clear and it was easy to complete assignments in advance because it was an online asynchronous course. POLS107 is a wonderful honors credit! Dr. Scott gets very interesting discussions started. Class was participation/discussion-based, but he always made sure you got to speak. Almost no work, one-page journal due every week (graded on participation) and three multiple choice/essay tests. He makes great study guides and basically hands you an A.

Great professor for online. Clear assignments and due dates. Weekly quizzes and responses and a final. Leaves feedback and cares about us learning about law!

Dr. Scotts class is discussion based with readings before class. The readings tend to be pretty interesting and a journal is due on Saturday at 11:59 about them for a completion grade. Dr. Scott makes class funny and engaging. He is a great teacher and sets his students up for excellence.

Overall an asynchronous easy class! Every week there are 2-3 assignments with 1-2 readings & responses and a quiz. It follows the textbook content which is sometimes boring but it is pretty easy. We have a final exam, and he gave an extra credit paper. Overall very accommodating and engages in our reading response. Would love to take him again!

Weekly journal entry, two exams, and a final. Grades on participation a little, but he is lenient with attendance excuses. You won't want to miss class, though. He is too much fun! Quite a bit of reading, but it is all necessary. Even if philosophy isn't your thing, you should definitely take this class. Everything you missed in PHIL101 and history

Dr. Scott is an awesome prof! His classes are enjoyable and easy to follow, participation is required but all you have to do it engage with the reading. He cares a lot about the students and made an effort to know all of us. The class is very test heavy, lots of reading, but other than three tests and one weekly journal there is no other homework.

Dr. Scott is my hero. The guy is funny, kindhearted, and his class is really easy if you do the readings and show up to the lectures. The only assignments were weekly 500 word journal entries, which is entirely manageable, and he gives good feedback on them.

Literally the nicest professor I have ever had at UTK. If you're truly interested in the foundations of American law and its history, this is the perfect class for you and Dr. Scott is the perfect professor for it! He's so knowledgeable and kind. He really boosted the overall experience.

Dr. Scott is fantastic. He was easily one of my favorite professors at UTK. He made a subject that could be potentially monotonous and made it engaging. He never reveals his own political affiliations or biases in class, and did a wonderful job of facilitating discussions. He took time to reply to my questions, and he really cares about students.

Dr. Scott was incredible. He's engaging and exciting, and he is also an extremely fair professor. He lets you know up front that his exams are difficult, but he gives a thorough study guide that allows you to do well. He also genuinely cares about his students and gives optional extra credit assignments as well. One of the best profs I've ever had.

Dr Scott is an excellent professor. The class has a fair amount of work but the discussions in class easily make it worth it. Very fair grader and accessible outside of class. Strongly recommend for any and all poli sci courses he teaches.

Dr. Scott will give you every resource you need to succeed but you have to put in the work. He gives a study guide for exams, extra credit, and if you complete your weekly journals your grade should have plenty of padding if one of your exams isn't too great. He even moved one of our exams that was the day after Halloween upon us asking nicely.

Dr. Scott was an amazing professor to take for POLS200. He makes his lectures very engaging, and even cracks jokes throughout the class. If you do take his class, be prepared to participate as it is a significant portion of your final grade. There are also assigned readings for every class but they are pretty manageable if you stay on top of it!

This is my third class with Dr. Scott, and he is very consistent. Class is formatted such that students are set up for success. Per week: one quiz, one writing assignment, one lecture/other video. Gives extra credit opportunity. 330 is a good class for learning legal basics, not just for those interested in law school. Lot of overlap with POLS 435.

Dr. Scott is such a great professor! He is so so nice and cares about his students. He makes sure that we are prepared for all of our exams by answering any and all questions that we may have. His exams are kinda tough at times but he gives a great study guide. I didn't anticipate learning much from this class, but I gained so much from it!

Dr. Scott is great! I took his pols 330 and it was super easy. Pols 200 was definitely more difficult but also much more fun. He builds relationships with his students and wants to see them succeed. If he taught more classes I would take them!

Dr. Scott is great! His lectures were funny and informative. The class is just papers and quizzes. The quizzes come directly from the book, so as long you read the material it's an easy A. He is not a harsh grader on the papers and lays out the expectations well. I would definitely suggest taking him!

Dr. Scott is a great professor. His lectures did tend to get a bit boring but he would crack jokes to try and make it more interesting. There isn't a lot of work outside of class but you should read what is expected of you in case he calls on you during lecture.

Dr. Scott made philosophy a lot more interesting than it should be. Attendance and participation are mandatory. The class has a lot of workload including reading and long written tests; however, if you actively go to class, read the homework, and complete the study guide, you should do well. The class is a lot of open discussion which I appreciate.

I have loved professor Scott. He is extremly intentional to try and get to know his students and is eager to help out and have conversations! You do need to read in this class, but he offers great extra credit assignments that really help out. Overall, he is a great professor to know at UTK.

Dr. Scott this semester was great! Although this was an online class, there was still a good level of involvement from him, and the online course was structured extremely well. You knew exactly what was due when and what he was expecting from you on each assignment. I will continue to take classes with him whenever I have the chance!

He is awesome! He also gave good, straight to the point feedback without shitting on if you did bad or not. I loved how his canvas was set up, everything was organized and easy. 10/10 will take again if possible

Very easy class, but also a very interesting class with a wide variety of topics. He had some lectures to watch, but reading the chapter in the book was enough to finish the writing assignment we had every week. Each writing assignment was at least 500-700 words and a quiz each week also. You can easily work ahead.

Dr. Scott is hilarious but provides good information at the same time. He is lecture heavy and you read a good amount to prepare for class, and participation matters. He wants to hear your thoughts on the readings and is really knowledgeable about the subjects he teaches. I always look froward to his class and would absolutely take again!

START STUDY GUIDES ASAP. Amazing professor and lectures, no slides in class so pay attention with good notes. An assignment is due every week and it definitely gets annoying fast but boosts your grade. As long as you complete the study guide you will pass the class. The exams aren't easy but extra credit is given. Recognize the chosen list pattern!

Take Dr. Scott's class! I would take any course he offers. His exams are tedious, but if you do the readings and go to class then you will do fine. He provides an in-depth study guide for exams, too. He is entertaining and very passionate about the content. Can't praise this man enough!

professor scott is honestly my favorite professor i have had while at utk. his class was so fun and i loved the way he taught it. there is a lot of assigned reading but outside of that there is only one assignment a week which evens it out. his exams are difficult so there is a lot of studying required for those! if you try you will do well!!

I took this class online and feel like I learned just as much as if I were to have taken it in person. We had weekly writing/reading assignments but without them I wouldn't have gained anything from the class. Dr. Scott is a great person. Very respected and caring. Easy quizzes. Take him for anything if you can.

Dr. Scott is one of the best political science professors. He really knows the material he teaches. There is a substantial amount of reading each week but if you do the readings and show up to class, then everything should be easy.

Dr. Scott was an amazing professor and he got to know each his students. Exams are packed with lots of information and are hard to finish within the time given, but he gives study guides a week in advance. There are 3 exams per semester and overall they're worth 65% of your grade. As long as you pay attention and do the readings you will do well.

Although the exams are rather difficult and require a decent amount of studying, if you put the time and effort into the study guides you'll do great! He is an amazing professor and I would take him again in a heartbeat, I could not recommend him enough. He made what I thought would be a rather boring class extremely engaging and interesting!

Dr. Scott is hilarious, very well spoken, and clearly knowledgeable beyond the content of this course. His lectures are engaging and informative, and the dad jokes abound. The class is reading heavy, but otherwise an easy A if you show up. I would highly recommend him for any civics class.

I love Dr. Scott! He isn't easy but is still a good professor and can be very funny. I was very impressed with how much he knew his content and how much he liked talking about it. Just be ready for a lot of difficult reading and a lot of short and long papers. But if you enjoy learning about American history then you will enjoy his class.

I took this course online. It was very reading and writing heavy, but Dr. Scott makes it easy to manage. he was understanding when an extension was needed and didn't take points off if you asked for one. Even though the class itself was difficult and time consuming I would recommend taking it.

He responds to emails and is easy to contact. You are only graded by 5 things, 3 of them being writing assignments for 10% of your grade each, and 2 exams, including the final at 35% each. Easy online class to take, but very reading and writing heavy.

Great Professor! Most of the grade comes from the midterm and final exam, but he gives extremely thorough study guides that are very helpful for the exams. I really enjoyed the class content and would definitely take a course with him again.

Dr. Scott is not only an encyclopedia on the material, he is also an extremely approachable individual. You will find the most success in this class by doing the reading and LISTENING to lectures.

Lots of reading but goes over big ideas and most know things in class. Gives study guides for tests that cover everything. Put in the effort on papers and he'll grade easy. GREAT Professor. I'm taking him again next semester. Couldn't recommend more. Also, very engaging, entertaining, and truly cares about his students.

I really enjoyed the accessibility Dr. Scott had! This class involved a lot of reading, and I ended up not reading as much as I had planned. The two 2,000 word papers and the 2,500 word final were a little too much for a 100 level class. I also thought he graded a little on the harder side.

Dr. Scott is a super funny and engaging prof. He is not the easiest to reach outside class. Classes are fully discussion based with tons of reading outside of class. Grades based on 3 essays and 2 exams. Be participatory, read, and get ready for lengthy test reviews. Work on memorizing cases throughout semester and not right before tests.

Dr. Scott is super accessible and responds to emails super fast. He was a great professor for this online class. The class is graded off of 3 2000 word essays, a midterm, and a final exam. There is a lot of readings and videos to watch, but he is a very fair grader.
