This is the best micro teacher you will get. If you study his practice exams which you can get online then you will at least get a 'B'. Drops the lowest test grade, final is optional, and class is basically optional, doesnt get much better than that.
Great teacher! He gives out practice exams that almost identical to the real exams. Make sure you know those inside and out and you are good to go. He makes the notes very clear with graphs. The material is hard and boring. Class is a bit long. Take him!
His class is really long and boring but you don't really have to go. Your grade is the average of your best 3 tests scores of 4 tests but they're really hard.
Good professor. Borrows some test questions from his practice tests. Exams aren't hard. All material on tests can be easily found in notes and textbook pages he tells you to read. If you study that material, you can get an A or B. Very straightforward.
Scrogin does his best to teach it and hes an awesome teacher. Class is optional but you do get extra credit for going and stayin, bc it is boring. Grade is based on 3 exam grades, out of 3 exams your lowest gets droped. Nice guy, sounds like scoobydoo.
Good guy. Kinda hard class. I got lazy. don't skip a midterm to take the final you will regret it. He talks about stuff in class that could be read or taken notes on in 20 minutes. DO GO TO CLASS. even though they are long and kinda boring.
Great professor, drops lowest test grade. Tests easy if you study the book and notes.
This course can get boring, but he tries his best to make it interesting.Grades fair, offers some extra credit pts. Counts 3 out of 4 exams, don't skip an exam completely. Because ur just gambling on the Final exam, that's how i failed the course =(
Nice guy, but not as easy as people are saying. He does drop the lowest test grade, but it takes a lot of work to even get a C on the tests. There really are not many good Economics teachers, as it seems, so I would say take his class, but be prepared.
His tests are a lot easier than some people are saying. Skim through the pages he says to read and go over the practive exam and you should be fine.
Scrogin teaches the material in a way that is easy to understand and as interesting as it can be. Go to class and take good notes. Know the material from the review sheet, go over past exams, and skim the chapters and the tests will be a breeze.
his tests r tough...definitely study! his lectures r boring. i didnt take notes but as long as u do the practice questions and sample tests, u should BE ok. i had to read the chapters and study for hours. his grading scale is pretty good tho...
this class is sooooo boring and the exams are HARD! dont go into this class thinking its easy A b/c its not..you have to study. but he is a really nice and helpful guy...dont be afraid to ask him for help!
maaaaan....he is a cool guy and nice as hell, BUT I'm not sure he can effectively explain the material. Its not that he doesn't know it, I jsut OVER explains it...uuuuugh
He explains over and over again so we dont move super fast, but there is a practice exam for every test so you get a pretty good idea about how his tests will be. Hes really nice too and very positive.
scrogin is flippin amazing!! he gets into the most boring of things. i still remember the first day of class he was jumping and yelling INCOME = Price x Quantity! still makes me laugh! haha, take good notes, do practice exam, and study a little bit and youll do ok. Passing with a B.
Good Teacher, easy class just go to the lectures and take notes, study sample exams and notes and you will do good, gives extra credit and curves the grades and the end of the semester, take this class!
Boring...You can miss a class because he does a recall on all the information he did the day before. Don't let the tests he lets you study from fool you, the questions are different on 2 of the tests. Final is really EASY question are the same from all the old test. Not bad final pushed my grade up
Seriously...I just got a 98 on an exam I took this week and I haven't been to class since the last one! you can teach yourself the whole thing thorough the book, using his sample exam he gives to guide you. If you think you're a good student then an A is not difficult! And he's pretty enertaining!
ITs just this simple. YOu need to attend class because he will help you out even more if you do. He does so much to help his students. He gives practice exams an often times they have close questions on the real test. Awesome Guy I am gonna try to get an overide into one of his classes.
AWESOME guy! He is so into economics that he is willing to do anything to make you understand. He is a ton of fun, very helpful and very approachable. He gives practice tests from the semester before and goes over them before the real test. I would definately take him again!
He's a good teacher.. but really pretty boring... you can tell he's really into teaching though... definetly study the past exams he puts up online.. they'll help.. i'd recommend taking him! study for the tests!
this is the most boring class i have ever been in. tests are really hard.. i dont know why anyone would recommend him.
compared to the last proff i took this course w/ HE'S AWESOME.he does the best possible job in tryin to explain hard theoretical concepts.very enthusiasmatic, lenient grader, and always willing to help his students.no lie tests r really hard but if u go to class n do rdgs can pass w/ a B. teacher is recommended
Very into teaching and goes over all concepts & involves students. I definately recommend studying from the test from the previous semester that he gives you. Lets you drop your lowest test also. Great prof.
Very into economics. Definately study the tests from the previous semesters that he gives you or find someone that had them. Drops lowest test grade. I would recomend taking him for this class. Get the old tests and you'll do fine.
Definately study the tests from previous semester. Fun guy - Makes economics as fun as possible.
The class is not interesting and not super easy but he does his best to keep students interested. He's nice and available for extra help. Study the practice exams and definitely review for tests, they are not super easy. Random attendance checks give good bonus points that add up at the end of semester & can def help your grade if you're borderline
Scrogin is the best Economics teacher there is... hes willing to help. pay attention in class and read the book and you'll be fine...
Best economics teacher. If you have to take economics, Scrogin is the best choice. He explains everything very well, and his energy and enthusiasm make the class as interesting it can possibly be. He wants everyone to do well so he will go out of his way to help you if you are still having difficulties. I wish he taught more subjects.
Course was difficult, but Scrogin made it fun to be in. Learned a whole lot :-) Awesome professor... also had him for managerial econ over the summer.
Great professor. I've took him twice, cuz I liked him a lot the first time. His class is pretty clear and straitforward. Grade comes from 3 tests, and some quizes.
Hardest class ever taken. Scrogin does his best to help his students understand the material. DO NOT TAKE ECONOMETRICS AS YOUR ELECTIVE.
One of, if not the best, economics professors. He is always available to help you with his class or anything else in your academics. This class is not the easiest, but if your good with stats then it is not that bad. Highly recommend for any class that he teaches.
Very helpfull. cares a lot about his students. excellent professor !
Very easy if you study the exam reviews and sample exams! I got all A's on the tests.... I have book ($50) and actual exams ($20) for sale... if interested email at [email protected]
Dr. Scrogin is a cool guy, very helpful if you ask...Class attendance is helpful for extra credit, but not gonna make or break your grade. Try and get the old tests from previous semesters, there close to identical...study from the book and go to the extra help. It's not an easy class but if you put work in, it's possible for an A or B..
Great teacher thats funny and interesting. Attend class and do online practice tests for a pretty easy A. Teacher is highly recommended!
Took him over the summer. He's a great teacher, material is hard and he doesn't curve, but he makes sure you know everything. Test are half MC, half short answer (math problems with a little bit of calculus), and he goes over the math problems in class. Highly recommended.
this class in one of the hardest classes you will take. not easy at all. Teacher is very helpful and has ofiice hours available a good amount of time. Going to class and reading the textbook is a necessity. I got a C+
Scrogin is the best Econ professor at UCF. The problem sets that he hands out are nearly identical to what's on the test. Highly recommended.
Decent Professor, always ready to answer questions. The book and in class materials were easy to learn. Important aspects of the class were repeated often. An easy A/B depending on your background with Econ. If you're interested in econometrics, get to know Scrogin early, b/c that's where his research is.
Good teacher, always ready to help. Really big into stata programming. Just review the homeworks, old tests, and practice problems and you'll get an A for the exams.
Scrogin is a good professor. He is always willing to help. Study the problem sets and you will do fine on the quizzes and tests. You can easily get a B in this class.
The Best Professor at UCF. Class in not a cakewalk but he his passion for the subject makes you excited to learn. Get an A if you go to class, take notes, and review them. Helpful outside of class if you don't totally understand a concept.Hopefully I will be able to take him again.
Extremely enthusiastic. Very animated and clear in his teaching. Open to questions and interested in students. Only drawback is that we tended to waste first 20 minutes of class on frivolous stuff, but he is entertaining.
If you aren't comfortable with math, especially calculus, think twice about taking this course in honors. The professor is more than willing to walk you through the steps, but it may be more stress than you need.
He's my favorite prof at UCF. Really has a passion for teaching and economics. He likes to get to know his students and is ALWAYS willing to help you out. You do have to put in a lot of effort for his class because it is not easy. He keeps you engaged in class and creates a great environment. You will learn a lot and enjoy it!
Dr. Scrogin is as close to the ideal professor as I have ever had. He explains himself very clearly, and was incredibly fair. Dr. Scrogin provided problem sets prior to each exam which were tough, but good preperation. No one should get lower than a C in his class.
he is the best prof i ever had. some of the material in this class was hard but nothing impossible. he truly wants his students to suceed and encourages people to come to his office hours where he is even more helpful
Best Teacher I've had at UCF. He is very passionate about economics and is always willing to help. Every student should have a teacher like scrog.
This man is certainly a character. Very enthusiastic and entertaining, almost adorable. He cares passionately about his students and wants you to succeed. Everything is very straightforward and tests reflect EXACTLY what is in the lectures and problem sets. If you do the problem sets you cannot not get an A.
He's clear and keeps the amount of math reasonable.
Best professor ive had at UCF so far. Was a little surprised by the final, but nothing i couldn't figure out. TAKE HIM!!!
great teacher. very helpful, wants to make sure you understand and are learning. very enthusiastic during lectures and drops lowest quiz grade. writes down everything...literally! rarely used the textbook and got a B!
Best professor I've had at UCF :) He writes down everything on the board, exams are not that bad, got an A in this class easily :) Would take him again, he is that great!
This is the easiest professor you can take. Not challenging at all.
Finance Majors D
Great teacher! Do the problem sets and study them for the quizzes. Take good notes and don't bother with the book. Class is a lot of math but only algebra and simple derivatives.
Best professor at UCF. I love this teacher I wish he taught more classes for the ECO dept. He is extremely helpful and cares about his students, tough but very fair. He gives you work sheets which are very similar to the quizzes and tests and actually lectures and teaches! This man deserves an award he is AWESOME!
Too much caffeine in the morning makes for too many in class antics and shifting around turning a class that requires attention and concentration into a distracting circus. I did not learn a thing in that class, relying mostly on the book and on the sample problem sets and quizzes for the tests. Don;t miss the quizzes, they boos your grade.
If someone asked me what do I miss most about UCF, it'd be David Scrogin. His classes were great. He made you want to learn the material
Make no mistake, econometrics is a rigorous course. I am a finance major, and have never worked as hard in a business course as I did here. But Dr. Scrogin recognizes persistence and awards your efforts. Go to class, see him during office hours for additional help, and read the assigned chapters. I ended up with an A, but not without effort.
Great professor and teaching methods. He's always full of energy and is extremely interested in your learning. Econometrics is very very challenging class.
it is very hard to find a prof like him. he teaches evrything u need to know in class with enthusiasm. just do the problem sets which take like an hour to do at most. he post prac exams nd their similar to tests. Great class u'll learn alot.
Professor Scrogin was a simple, clear, and easy to understand professor who really understands what he is teaching and makes the class simple since he continues to repeat the main ideas until you couldn't forget them if you tried. Take him, he uses his sample problem sets as quiz and test questions, and posts sample multiple choice questions. A.
Simply awesome. He is incredibly enthusiastic about the subject matter, has a great personality, and does not make the material harder than it needs to be.
Scrogin is the best teacher I have ever had in my entire life.
Scrogin is awesome. He wants to help you. No need for book. Econometrics is hard, but doable. Earned an A-, but met with a study group every week. Math intensive class
6 quizzes and 3 exams. This class is heavy in its workload but if time is put in this class then it is an easy A, although the professor uses minus grades too. The exams are similar to what is tested in the quiz but unfortunately the exams/quizzes are not open book or open notes. Professor is willing to help students learn the material.
He's very enthusiastic. He does cover material kind of slowly though, so if you're a fast learner it's easy to get bored and distracted because he reiterates things a lot. Grade based on quizes and tests. Limited extra credit built into quizes/tests. He will give partial credit on free response.
Great Professor, VERY enthusiastic about the subject. However, he writes unnecessarily long sentences on the board and the tests are hard. Do problem sets, attend class, and study for the 3 tests and you can get an A.
Great class,I was always excited to go. He's enthusiastic about his subject and has some crazy hand gestures and voice inflections that were always entertaining. Grading is tough with not much leeway but its still very possible to achieve an A. 4 quizzes 3 exams, and he drops the lowest quiz.
Scrogin is the best. The class is a combination of very basic calculus and Microeconomics. He is very entertaining and helpful. If you go to class and do the problem sets its an easy A or B.
Mr. Scrogin is one of the most inspiring professors i've ever had. Class isn't mandatory, but all of the quizzes and exams are from his lectures. That being said don't buy the book and go to class. He gives great lectures anyways and there is never a dull moment. Easy A (if you go to class)
Scrogin is enthusiastic and knows his stuff. This was the only class this semester that had me wanting to go every single day. He grades very fairly and if you come to class and pay attention, an A or B is very attainable. Not much use of the textbook, I wish I didn't rent it.
Scrogin is enthusiastic, entertaining and a great lecturer. I recommend him, even though I failed the midterm but ended up getting an A on the final and a B in the class. My mistake was assuming the material was as easy as it was when he explains it in class. You still have to study!
Best teacher I've had at UCF. Loves the subject and explains everything in a clear way. Difficult class but if you go to it its difficult to fail
The class is 75% graphs and math, 25% concepts. If you are an A-/B+/B/B- student, GO TO THE HELP DESK. It will save your life & grade. He is one of the best professors at keeping your attention, but tends to not go very in-depth with the math. The average midterm exam grade was 75. GREAT GUY NONE THE LESS
By far the best teacher I've ever had at UCF! Econometrics is a hard course but he is so excited about teaching every day and makes the course enjoyable. I'm a math major but I've never really understood Statistics, and this course really helped.
This professor is VERY energetic and he tries to be funny BUT i did not find him amusing at all. The material was just boring, his test were difficult and it seemed like he excepts EVERYONE to know everything. I took him in Summer and it was painful. He is a nice guy but I just did not find him teaching style effective.
Scrogin really knows his material. Exams are tough. Study notes, practice problems, and memorize all formulas. He is extremely helpful and willing to work with you one-on-one, just ask. I highly recommend talking with him if you don't understand the material. Otherwise, you may flounder in the class.
Go to class! Somewhat repetitive but that's because he wants you to learn the material. Will always answer your questions, in person or online. Will keep you until the very bitter end though. Not an easy A but if you take the time to study and do the problem sets you should get a decent grade.
Dr. Scrogin is intelligent, enthusiastic, and highly empathetic. Despite understanding the material at an extraordinarily high level, he is capable of making it intelligible to the average student. Textbook use is not necessary until the last exam, at which point you may be required to read some supplementary sections in it. I highly recommend him.
Professor Scrogin was a great teacher but he was VERY unclear on how in-depth the tests would be. You need to study a lot to get a good grade on the 4 tests.
One of the worst professors I've ever taken. Class is 100% based on 3 exams and a cumulative final. He drops the lowest of the first 3. You can study for days and his exams will stick look foreign, EXTREMELY poorly worded and far too advanced. Didn't bat an eye at the 59.2% avg on the first exam with 1500+ students. He needs to discover what HW is.
Online. Lectures have nothing to do w the text. Lectures do not translate well when compared to the exam material. Only 4 exams final is cumulative, lowest of 1st 3 dropped + no other assignments due which leaves tiny margin for error. He does however, offer tons of help and encourages questions. Would not recommend.
Test wording not clear and to the point. Teaches theory of economics but does not teach application. You have to go to the TA's to grasp the math and application of this class. No homework and no quizzes. Talks very fast in lectures. Nice person, But I would not recommend taking for Economics unless you have taken calculus or your a math major.
Terrible teacher. Very vague and unclear with material. Lectures do not coincide with anything from the textbook so alternative supplements are not helpful. No homework and all tests that consist of poor wording. More than 70% of the class is failing and he doesn't care at all. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
The only grades that are considered are tests so there isn't anything else to save your grade. I have been to every lecture, and they aren't really that helpful. The thing that really helps me prepare for the tests are problem sets and sample multiple choice questions. He isn't a fantastic teacher, but if you really study you should be fine.
You HAVE to read the book and do the problem sets and take the practice quizzes if you want to even get a C. The tests are hard and really make you think but are mostly conceptual so don't worry about the graphs. Tests are your only grade. He wants to help you but he doesn't realize this is an intro course and makes it higher level
In my opinion, people seem to exaggerate the difficulty level of this class. People complain about the "wording" of his tests but if you really know the material then it shouldn't be a problem. He gives LOTS of resources to help his students (i.e problem sets, sample test questions, LOTS of tutoring). If people fail, it's because they don't study.
Grades based solely on tests. Tests are worded poorly and studying is a necessity. He provides resources but even mastering them the tests are still difficult. I would try and avoid him
Professor Scrogin is a great guy, however, his teaching style is not for an intro level course. I am an A student, and I am failing this class. I have watched all of the lectures, taken notes, done all the problem sets and still can't seem to pass get anything higher than a C on ex. Material he teaches in class is nothing like what is in the exams.
The class is difficult but its not impossible. He really tries his best to make sure everyone understands the material. Three tests make up the entire grade and the tests can be pretty difficult. Best advice would be to get the textbook and make sure to understand the problem sets
Worst professor ever. Nothing he taught was on the tests, and he treats the class like we're all economics majors. I have never gotten below a B in a class before this one. I've gotten my first D.
The professor does introduce a lot of in depth material for an intro course, and you MUST do the problem sets and attend all the lectures if you want to get a high grade on exams. But Scrogin is very fair with grading, throwing plentiful amounts of EC points out. Don't bother with the textbook, all you need is in the problem sets. Would take again.
ThE tests tough! Do the Problem Sets, and make sure you visit his TAs for tutoring. He speaks as if we are economic majors, but his notes make things simpler. The TAs are there to help explain it on our level. Although the test were tough he DOES want his students to pass, he gives extra credit on tests.
This class was terrible, he was not helpful and you only have three grades for the entire class which are exams. Not enough material was provided to help us pass. I would not recommend taking this professor at all. AVOID.
The notes and problem sets were not helpful, there were always problems on the test that I had no idea where they were ever coming from. Don't take him if you can avoid it, anyone else is better.
Taking Scrogin's Microeconomics class was extremely stressful. Scrogin is very unclear about what you will be tested on and he is completely uninterested in student's concerns. If you end up with Scrogin, read the book thoroughly and go to the TA's hours, then review Scrogin's lecture notes. His actual lectures and practice sets aren't very helpful
The class is hard and if you don't read the book before the test you will struggle. There were three tests (one was dropped) and then the cumulative final! He added a curved grading scale which was very helpful and made my 75% a B! If you pay attention to lecture and keep up with the online problem sets you will pass the class no problem.
For anyone considering taking this as an elective or just to fulfill requirements in your major, I wouldn't recommend taking it. Choose MacroEcon or American Government. This class is not bad if you're majoring in economics. For everyone else though, don't waste your timegrade! Didn't put effort because it wouldn't make a difference and got a B+.
This class is extremely difficult and the curve at the end saved me. All the exams have trick questions and the material is difficult to understand. Majority of my class averaged very low test grades. Take this class with a different professor.
If it wasn't for a curve my 63.3 would have been a D. I made a C in the course. I kept praying I would pass thank g-d I did. You need a prayer in this class.
This course is tough but doable if students put time and effort on it. It's involved math and critical thinking. The professor is really good at explaining the material. He is very nice and patient when listening to the students. Some students don't take this course seriously and blame the professor for their failure. He deserves to earn respect.
This was my first class I have struggled in at college. Part of the problem is this is very difficult material, and the teacher does not really help simplify it. I also felt like there were a few discrepancies between class notes and the test. The other tricky thing is your grade is based off of 3 test grades (drops your lowest grade). Its doable
In my six college semesters, Professor Scrogin is the best professor I've ever had. He's a great teacher, and really wants his students to understand the material. He provides plenty of resources to make sure you learn what you need to, and his lectures are very in-depth. Tests can be hard, but the lowest is dropped. Take him!!
The professor does not do a good job in explaining the mathematical problems needed to pass the tests. His examples are confusing. The tests are hard and the majority of the class gets a C- on each test. Only good thing is that he drops your lowest test grade! Nice man, hard class.
Attending class is not necessary, as there is video capture, but attending the live lectures really helped me understand the material! Dr Scrogin did not have gradedrequired homework assignments- the final grade was based on exams ONLY, but I HIGHLY recommend doing the reading and online homework assignments in order to understand the material.
Good teacher, tests were somewhat hard but he gives extra credit and lets' s you drop lowest test score. Did not study as much as I should have and still managed a B. Do NOT miss his test reviews and you should pass his class!
Awful professor. You only have 4 grades the entire semester. I have no idea where he get his test questions from because its not from his notes or lectures. He offers sample questions, but they're totally useless. The book is better at explaining some of the concepts than he is, but its not enough. Avoid him like plague. I literally learned nothing
This semester he added quizzes to help reinforce the material, last semester the only grades were three exams. The material itself is difficult but paired with his lectures and notes it seems impossible. He's very passionate about what he teaches but the concepts are not presented clearly through him.
Pretty easy class
This is NOT an easy class. Lectures are not mandatory attendance because they are streamed online. Lectures are long and super boring. Hand writes notes and posts them online along with problem sets and solutions for the tests. LOOK AT THOSE THEY SAVED MY GRADE. The material is hard if you have no econ background. Study cube helped me more than him
I took this class purely Lecture Capture and let me tell you. Try not to get too far behind on the lectures because you won't want to spend hours catching up. The quizzes he gives help a lot with the 3 exams. He drops the lowest exam and the 2 lowest quiz grades. He posts his notes online so use those. It's a pretty good class if you work a bit.
While very intelligent, his lectures are scatterbrained and hard to follow. He takes forever to get to the point and if you are easily distracted you should definitely take this class somewhere else.
great lectures, talk to him in office hours he's very patient.
I genuinely feel sorry for him. He isn't a bad professor, but the material is MISERABLE. You will not like this class, it will make you frustrated, but Scrogin definitely does everything in his power to help you pass (even then, the class average is about a 65%). Read the notes, final is cumulative & don't assume the "quizzes" are in any way easy.
Scrogin is all over the place, can't say i've ever seen a professor befuddled on his own material before this class. I would say take a different teacher, but unfortunately hes the only one. As far as passing i would say your only hope is finding a study buddy, otherwise you will be lost the entire time
He's a nice guy but this class is tough. For a 2000 level class, it should not be this difficult. With 1000 students enrolled in the class, for every test the average was in the low 60's.
Pretty good. It's pretty easy to keep up in the beginning but you can fall behind quickly if you don't stay on top of it and practice on your own. It's a big class but it's video recorded so you don't have to attend the lectures and you can always go back and review lectures which is very helpful. He is very fair, you just have to put in the work
Ive taken alot of classes. This guy is representative of the Economics department at UCF. Horrible. Doesnt give you the resources thru this online medium to learn the material effectively. If you can deduct all relationships from one sample problem and a smattering of unrelated homework then he is your guy. Waste of money I did get a B.
I never watched a lecture just studied for the test on my own and managed to get a B in the class. Test are tough especially if you don't have a background in economics. Overall the class is not impossible but get ready to teach yourself. 6 quizzes and 3 midterms and one final. Gave a huge curve this semester. Overall not an impossible class.
Great guy. Did his best to help you succeed. Very nice. The course was challenging and you have to watch the lectures to pass the tests. But paying attention and studying will earn you a well-deserved grade. The textbook is not required at all and you can manage an A without it but I found it helped me clarify important concepts.
Scrogin very obviously cares about his students, but I don't think he understands that economics just doesn't come easily to many of the students taking his class. Doing- and understanding - the problem sets will set you up for success. Go to office hours for both him andor his TA(s). Difficult, stressful course, but completely doable.
Everyone struggles with this class but I think it's just because they don't attend the lectures. Yeah his questions on quizzes and tests are tricky but if you know the material it's doable. If you do the problem sets he gives you you will get an A. I ended up with a 93 and I studied like 5 hours for each test.
Scrogin is a very nice man and will help if you ask but good god his class is so hard!!!! Over half the class gets a C or lower on his exams. The notes and problem sets don't help that much and you really have to know the material to do well. There's only 4 Exams including the final and 6 quizzes. He drops your 2 lowest quizzes and one exam though.
The class was HORRIBLE! Professor is a nice guy but as a teacher he is much less than acceptable. The lectures are boring and he has a tendency to talk about nothing. The exams are COMPLETELY different from class lectures. He uses weird language on his tests that is incredibly hard to understand what exactly he asks.. Just awful experience!!
STUDY. I used study cube which posted reviews and I studied his reviews. Barely watched lectures but I passed. MEMORIZE all the quizzes & problem sets because they will show up on the tests. Study study study and you will pass. Not a hard class.
This class is a bit difficult but Professor Scrogin really goes out of his way to help his students. There are quizzes and problem sets that help you prepare for the tests. I also highly recommend watching his videos. Scrogin goes over every quiz, problem set, and test in detail. The final exam is really easy. He also provides a large curve.
Class seems hard but really isn't bad. Three tests six quizzes and a cumulative final. He drops your lowest test grade and two lowest quizzes, you have to take the final but its the easiest test, questions come from past tests and quizzes which he leaves open to study. Watch lectures and do problem sets and quizzes and a B is easy to achieve.
Professor Scrogin is a very good professor if you watch his lectures-which I barely watched as the semester progressed. He added quizzes and points in addition to 3 exams (1 is dropped) and a final which is just questions that are altered from previous exams. It is possible to pass this class without watching lectures or doing problem sets.
Ridiculously hard tests and quizzes for a general education class and unbearable to listen to for any amount of time, let alone an hour and a half.
Amazing teacher. Thoroughly goes through all material and review previous lectures, quizzes and tests at the beginning of each lecture. Exams are word for word questions from the problem sets and quizzes. Tons of extra credit and a generous curve. Easy A if you do the homework.
Professor Scorgin is an extremely amazing guy! Before each "live lecture" he would always talk about how much he would love to see his students succeed. Scrogin has a ton of passion toward the subject he teaches and really expresses each topic as if it were the most important. 6 Quizzes, two dropped. Tests are simple if you study the material!
Simply a bad teacher. Nothing personal, I had a good grade. But WOW! Prepare to be confused and baffled... and I consider myself pretty logical. When he tries to explain in class, just might as well leave and start reading the book. On your tests prepare to sweat and crinkle your forehead. Hope you like Vegas, bc at times you just have to guess.
The class isn't an easy A, however, it's not a living nightmare. The exams are pretty fair. You actually will need to study for it. There's a lot of use of formulas. The exams are the only grades in the class. He didn't use the Connect code in my class and didn't have any homework or anything. He does post practice problems.
I was dreading taking Microecon but Scrogin makes this class so simple. His lectures are straightforward and convey the material in an easy-to-understand way. WatchAttend lectures, take notes, do the problem sets, and you'll do well. I didn't buy the book or access code and don't recommend doing so. Extra credit on every quizexam. Loved the class
Great Teacher, makes a hard subject relatively easy. He offers a huge amount of extra credit and drops your lowest midterm as well as your two lowest quizzes. The single best way to make sure you succeed in this class is to form a study group and take the online quizzes together (this allowed by the teacher) it helps substantially. Highly Recommend!
I'm going to be honest in saying that I only watched the first 4 lectures and then stopped. It had nothing really to do with him or his teaching style, I just found economics boringly simple. The main way to get an A in the class is to do all of the optional homeworks and MAKE SURE you understand them. Most test questions were not surprises.
Nice guy !! Very helpful and wants his students to succeed. Plenty of extra credit. Drops 2 of your lowest quizzes and 1 of lot midterms. I got an A but you have stay on top of lectures and study. Would recommend him highly.
Nice guy, terrible teacher.
Nice guy, but not good at teaching. His quizzes are too hard and the way he teaches economics is unnecessarily confusing. His lectures are too long.
Amazing professor, kinda quirky, but really wants his students to succeed and while he may be wordy at times he still is very clear and thorough about the material; I haven't used the book at all, in fact. If you go to/watch his lectures, take the quizzes and use the study guides/problem sets he posts, you should do just fine!
Dr. Scrogin is an awesome professor. He is very straightforward. Everything he says in his lectures are on the exam; yyou don't need to purchase a text book. Don't memorize economics.. just listen and work out the graphs and try to understand the big picture. Easy A or B if you watch his lectures and pay attention. He drops lowest midterm grades.
Professor Scrogin is a great teacher and gives you an immense amount of extra credit and help if needed. If you just watch the lectures and print his notes and practice sample questions there's no way to fail his tests and quizzes.
Great Professor! Do not fall behind! You have the opportunity to do extremely well in this class, don't mess it up!
Very helpful and easy to talk to. Gave a lot of extra points, not necessary to go to class, just make sure you watch the lectures.
Scrogin in great! He has detailed notes before each class and gives decent lectures. The tests are mc and can be tough if you don't know the concepts so study hard. 10% extra credit throughout. Drops 2 quizzes, 1 mid term. No hw but look at the prob sets they help for the tests. Live capture lectures lets you stay at home, but he likes to see faces
Book is not needed, his notes are enough. Make sure to actually watch the lecture capture and read along with the notes. Tests are tough but there are always a good amount of quiz questions present.
Practice the problem sets and you will get an A. There's tons of extra credit and his lectures are pretty interesting. My only complaint is his rambling.
Scrogin's class is very challenging. It is live lecture so it's all recorded and you can review it throughout the entire semester. He has a 10 point curve at the end of the semester which saves most people. Pay attention & you'll be fine. Study Cube helps & prof. is very passionate about the subject & very willing to help. At times confusing.
Cool guy, gives alot of extra credit.
He's a good teacher, and there's no need for the book since he provides detailed notes and explains things well during lecture. The problem sets are definitely helpful, sometimes if you don't at least look at them, you might miss a quiz/test question. He doesn't explain all of them in lecture. Rambles a bit, but overall funny and good teacher
The lecture capture classes worked around my schedule, although I tried to go to class whenever I could. I know plenty of people that didn't do as well, but as long as you really pay attention to the lectures and do the practice problems, the material is understandable! Dave is enthusiastic and explains topics multiple times in different ways
Dr. Scrogin explains the material in length and tends to become very wordy which then becomes confusing. The only work aside of reading is 6 quizzes and 4 exams. Two lowest quiz grades and one exam grade will get dropped. Be advised, if you are not a great test taker, there isn't homework grades to help the overall score. Extra credit is available.
Passed this class with a B and scored a D and two C's lowest score was a 55 and was dropped. He drops two quizzes and the the lowest grade .. lets u bring an index card to take each exam. Do not need book and I barely listened to the lectures.
He's a pretty good professor. Made micro much easier. You don't need the book at all just study his notes, the quizzes and problem sets and you'll do fine. Drops lowest midterm exam and two lowest quizzes.
He makes microeconmics easy to understand. The subject itself it difficult but if you simply watch the lectures or attend class you will pass. He uses a point system and your grade is out of 400 points. 3 mid terms (lowest one dropped - 100 points each) 6 quizzes (lowest 2 dropped - 25 points each) All quizzes online and quizlet is there. It's good
If you attend/watch lectures and work to understand the practice problems you will pass. He drops the lowest exam and two lowest quizzes. The final is mostly all questions from the previous exams, which are available to study.
He makes the material easy to understand and relatable. Print out the notes he posts and use them during lecture. They make a huge difference! Quizzes were tougher than exams in my opinion. He lets you view quizzes and exams on web courses after the testing window closes, so you can use them to review for the exams and final.
Good professor. He clearly has a passion for economics. His lectures can be a bit boring and he uses confusing language in class and on the tests and quizzes. They're easy if you understand what the question is asking. I didn't use the textbook at all. Everything on the tests comes from the lecture. Also his pants are too tight.
He is a very good professor, definitely loves what he does. His lectures can get a bit boring that's why I personally recommend to study the book if you have a short attention span like myself. The tests are easy just study all the quizzes and make use of the note card he lets you use for the exam. He gives A LOT of extra credit which is great!
Such a sweetheart- I felt like my dad or grandpa was teaching me! Went to one physical class and found it was harder to follow the material, so stuck mostly to the Panopto videos. Gives quizzes for each chapter in addition to tests. Gives optional problem sets that help with tests a lot! Didn't need textbook at all, he posts notes online.
This is the hardest class I've ever taken, and I WAS a business major. This made me rethink my whole life. I failed this class, and I graduated in the top 15% in high school. He's too 'wordy'. Good luck.
If you do the problem sets and watch/go to the lectures, you should be fine. I didn't find the tests to be too challenging. He's a great teacher and makes the material understandable. He lets you use a notecard for each exam. He drops the lowest exam and two lowest quizzes and you can usually find answers for quizzes on quizlet.
I absolutely hated Macro but ended up loving Micro just because of Scrogin! He is always smiling and brings an incredible amount of enthusiasm and insight to the classroom. If you study the problem sets and quizzes for the exams you will be guaranteed at least a B or higher in the class. I really wish he taught higher level business courses!
Even though I struggled with the subject matter, he is a good teacher. He provides lots of extra practice problems and resources which makes it a lot easier to pass.
Micro is obviously not a very easy subject but his enthusiasm makes it bareable. I watched on lecture capture only when I needed to understand something but otherwise didn't spend any time on the class. He repeats himself a lot which I personally liked because later in your notes everything is re-emphasized clearly. EC points on quizzes and tests.
I didnt try very hard in this class and still managed to get an A. I did not go to class nor did I watch the lectures. So this class is doable if you put in the work. 6 quizzes (lowest 2 dropped) 3 test (lowest 1 dropped) and 1 final. Never even used the book.
This class is very difficult and has led me to consider majoring in either marketing or management. If you mess up he drops a lowest midterm and a couple of your lowest quizzes. I am expecting a B although I'm not sure yet on my grade. A good thing to remember is the grades on webcourses is probably lower than your actual grade.
Dr. Scrogin is one of my favorites! He made Microeconomics easier to understand and he understands us as students. He has a passion for Economics and he is very enthusiastic in his lectures. But not the easiest class, definitely requires some studying.
I would never go to class or watch the lectures but I did the quizzes and studied hard for 4 days before the test to understand the material. The class is designed for you to do well although you must study. Extra credit is built in to all the quizzes and test. I never used the textbook. He drops the lowest 2 quizzes and the lowest test.
Easier concept than macro, but scrogin is pretty confusing. Have a study group and practice doing his study guides and practice problems and review all quiz questions for a good grade on the test. The final are questions directly from last 3 tests. drops lowest quiz and test. Make sure to do at least average (C, some D plus) on quiz and test 2 pass
Scrogin is a good guy, you end up doing better than you think. I did ok on the quizzes and got all 65's on my test and before the final my webcourses grade was a 66% I thought I was done for. He drops a lot of grades tho. I got a 72 on my final and somehow someway pulled out a B? This class takes some studying but if you at least try youll be ok.
Scrogin could explain economics to a squirrel and they would understand it. He is very helpful. Quizzes and tests are very similar to how he talks, there is never a surprise. Extra credit was given on everything. No need for the textbook, or even to go to class if you watch it live stream. Take this class.
Tests are really really tough. Would not recommend this professor if you need hands on stuff to learn, there is no required homework. Would never take this professor ever again. Really did not pass this class, I would study a lot and then go into the test and not understand anything.
Scrogin is probably one of the best teacher I've had. By no means is this class a walk in the park, but Scrogin did his very best to motivate everyone in the subject. Extra credit makes up about 10% of the course points and the tests are just like the quizzes. I wish other teachers had the same enthusiasm as Scrogin.
I honestly loved this course! It was challenging however Professor Scrogin is always there for his students. It's hard to teach a class of over 1400 students & make sure that everyone understands the material however, he is always willing to help. His tests questions are directly from quizzes & problem sets! Would take again!
He's a great guy and a good professor.
Since this is a lecture capture course it's in your best interest to watch all of the lectures and take notes. You can get by without the book but I used it as a back up for when I didnt really understand something in the lecture. His quizzes are based off the lectures and his test are based off the quizzes. They're pretty straight forward.
Took this class for the second time, and realize how easy it really is. No textbook required, study the quiz and word problems, take good notes, watch the lectures, and yea, this time he allows a 3x5 notecard on the test. He assigns his own test questions, he doesn't use a test bank. His lectures are basically the tests and quizzes.
I took him in 2014 sorry i am so late. But here is the DEAL Lots of memorization if u are good at it take him. He curves thats it, its a basic class u guys u got THIS i promise just study maybe 2 hours a week u should be fine dont be scared and jump in :)
Scrogin is excellent. I am a bio major with no interest in business and he made a class for my GEP that I dreaded having to take a breeze. He does everything he can to help students (including tons of extra credit built into the course) and can explain microeconomics so well in his lectures. If you put effort into this class, you'll get an A.
Dr. Scrogin is terrific. He understands that the class is a GEP and that not everyone is an econ major, and does a great job of keeping it interesting. Between the built-in curve and the fact that he drops your two lowest quizzes and your lowest exam (that's an entire third of the final grade) there's no reason not to pass if you pay attention.
Great professor and fun guy. The class is heavily weighted because it can be challenging. This is a lecture capture class, so you can watch on webcourses anytime. The lectures are crucial to understanding the material. 15 q quizzes for each chapter or two. 42 q exams (3, drops 1). He writes new exams/quizzes each year relevant to the lectures.
Scrogin was a great professor! You can tell he really cares about his students and has a great personality. He uses humor in his lectures, which makes the class go by much quicker. He is by far my favorite professor this semester. However, it is a difficult class and he can be a tough grader, so make sure to attend every class and really study.
This class is really hard in general but he as an awesome professor. One thing I recommend is to go to lecture. Do not pile up on watching online lecture, you will procrastinate and fall behind on watching. Going to lecture and paying attention is extremely important. Tests are difficult but if you put in work you'll do well! Great and helpful guy!
This is a very, very, very difficult class. He does everything he can to make sure you pass. He curves every test, provides extra credit, and lectures thoroughly. You will not need the textbook, his notes and lectures will suffice. But do not underestimate the amount you need to study. I wound up failing and having to re-take and got a B-. STUDY!!!
He's obviously very passionate about the subject matter but his teaching style isn't for everyone. Relatively simple concepts are explained in the most unnecessarily convoluted ways possible. Would not recommend.
Professor Scrogin tries his best to make this class interesting. He gives feedback during office hours, he answers questions people have, he reviews test questions and he does anything he can to help students. You have to study because it's hard, but you get an index card for each exam and he drops your lowest exam and quizzes
Micro with Dr. Scrogin is an easy class if you go to class, take the online quizzes, and do practice problems. I found this class easy because everything you need to get As on the assignments is covered in class. He is a clear and passionate instructor and will spend time at his office hours helping you or shooting the breeze about economics.
I am not very good at economics, but Scrogin made it very easy to pass. He cares a lot about his students and wants everyone to pass. Some of his tests were difficult if you didn't study or didn't really understand the information, but it is easy to pass. He drops your two lowest quiz grades and your lowest test grade
All I can say is wow. Incredible professor, possibly the best I've has so far. He really cares. If you have a question, GO TO OFFICE HOURS! However, don't think this class is easy, you will have to work for you grade if you want it. KEY TO AN A: do the problem sets because those are the same as the quizzes, and quiz questions makeup the tests.
Dr. Scrogin is such a great professor! He builds in extra credit into each exam and quiz, so there is the chance to get up to 110%, which is awesome. The trick is to study for the quizzes and tests by reviewing the problem sets and past quizzes and exams. Good luck!
If you use all of the resources provided to you then this class is a piece of cake. There are 7 online quizzes. Midterms there are 3, and they are easy if you watch/go to the lectures and do the problem sets and review quizzes. Don't rely on the final for a good grade. A lot of EC! Drops lowest 2 quizzes and lowest midterm grade. Take this class!
Best professor I've ever had. He truly cares about the subject and his students. He goes a little slow in lectures sometimes, but it's because he really wants everyone to actually understand the material. He makes this class so much better because of what a great teacher he is, and you can bring a notecard to exams (taken in lab) which helps a lot.
Prof. Scrogin is cute in a nice grandpa way, but his teaching style is definitely not for everybody. I basically taught myself through the entire course and passed with an A-. His tests are pretty straightforward, and you are allowed to bring a 3x5 notecard into the testing center with you. 7 quizzes (3 dropped), 3 midterms (1 dropped) and a final.
Scrogin is a great professor. He includes a 10% curve in his grading and is very open to help his students and make sure they really understand economics. His tests are not hard, he gives detailed reviews with the test questions, and he drops the lowest midterm and lowest 2 quizzes. I definitely recommend him.
While he appears to have a real desire to help students, he is a poor teacher. Much of the course information you are tested on is parroted directly from his notes that incorrectly explains the concepts. He does not expand on these incorrectly explained topics in class but instead glosses over them. Relying on Lecture Capture is not recommended.
Your grade in this class is entirely decided by your tests and quizzes so if you're not a good test taker I'd recommend another professor. 3 exams and 1 is dropped with 6 quizzes with 2 dropped. Lectures aren't amazing you're better off using all of the study tools he gives you to prepare for tests.
The class is very straight forward; his quizzes are based on his lectures, his tests are based off his quizzes and practice problems. Professor Scrogin is very caring and will help students with any questions they have about the material. Recommended strategy is to print out his lecture notes and study the practice problems and just ask!
Prof. Scrogin is incredibly approachable and always happy to take the extra steps to help out. His class is the hardest I took during that semester, but I passed with a high B after studying, so it is possible. 4x6 notecard allowed on all exams, including the final, and plenty of extra credit. Highly recommended! Love Scrog!
This was one of my favorite classes of the semester. Professor Scrogin is so nice and he makes microecon fun and relatable. He lets you use a note card for each exam, which can help a lot if you make the most of it. The exams are pretty easy and he reuses previous quiz and exam questions. Watch the lectures and take notes and you'll do great!
Scrogin is a great person overall. He wears some cool birkenstocks and he likes Iron Maiden. He made microeconomics a very interesting course and he was always willing to help students understand. Drops the lowest midterm and the two lowest quizzes. Used the textbook for only one chapter and used his notes for the rest of the course.
First time taking an online lecture capture class and was worried but soon realized i liked the format. You watch the lectures all you want and rewind on the things you didint quite get. He is very thorough and i found this class pretty easy with a little bit of effort. Quizes were hard but he curves them and drops 2 so he tries to help,
Prof. Scrogin breaks down concepts for students to understand and will answer any questions you have in class. Watch his lectures, and use the book for concepts you don't understand. His quizzes and test are based on his own notes that he explain in class. Make sure to do well on his quizzes because questions on the quiz usually end up on exams.
He is a very energetic professor, he wants everyone to succeed. The class is set up with 6 quizzes, and 4 test, there is no homework, the test are pretty okay. The quizzes are online so its pretty easy. he gives extra credit questions as well
AMAZING PROFESSOR! I was apprehensive about taking this course because I knew nothing about econ! But he really makes the class as manageable as possible! He really works hard to make AMAZING notes and gives very in-depth and detailed examples/ explanations. Don'tskip lecture capture vids (or lectures) and take good notes! W/ work possible 2 get A
I found this class very difficult. This is the only class I've ever failed.
I loved him! Incredibly passionate, cares so much about his students. For me it was a lecture capture so it was a breeze because I could work economics around my schedule.
David Scrogin is the best professor I've had at UCF. Every class is lecture capture and if you watch and pay attention to the videos it is very straight forward. He drops a test and some quizzes and really cares about his students learning the topic.
Not an easy class, but in my opinion an enjoyable one. Scrogins does an incredible job at teaching. He explains some tough topics with great examples and cares VERY much for the students. DONT BUY THE BOOK. His lecture notes and prblm sets are plenty. I highly suggest attending class and do his problem sets to get a passing grade.
Don't let the level of difficulty scare you. Scrogin is an amazing prof who's passionate about econ. His lectures prepare you for the problem sets. Do the problem sets and you'll do great on the test. No textbook, he gives you notes. You get a 3X5 notecard on every test and the final. Extra credit built into tests and quizzes.
I watched only about 5 or 6 of the lecture captures, and still managed to get a B. Quizzes are done on your own at home, so there is no reason not to do well on them. The key to this class is study the quizzes for the exams, and study the exams for the final. You have a 3x5 notecard that you can bring to every exam, including the final.
Scrogin is an amazing prof. He is really passionate about economics and his lectures are extremely informative. however, his tests are very difficult.. the questions are very conceptual and can come across as very confusing. If you really pay attention to his lectures, study hard for all of the exams, and take the quizzes seriously you'll go good.
If you put in a little effort, the class is pretty easy. I put in the minimum effort into this class, and still did fairly well. He has really interesting lectures, and he loves economics. Definitely a must.
Professor Scrogin was amazing! He cares for his students more than any professor at UCF. He knows you by name, offers tons of office hours and has built in extra credit for assignments. My only issue is he's incredibly smart but sometimes under explained fundamental aspects. 7 quizzes, 3 dropped, 3 exams, 1 dropped and a cumulative final.
Very animated lectures via lecture cap, but everything you need to pass the class is given to you from the beginning in webcourses. Lets you bring a notecard into every test and the final as well as dropping your low test and two low quizzes Doesn't really explain it at the beginning, that he basically gives 10% of your final grade as extra credit.
This teacher gives you so many options of obtaining points. He works in extra credit to all quizzes and tests. If you watch the lectures you will be fine.
Scrogin was a great professor! I was very worried at first because you're graded on so few things but he puts a lot of extra points into his tests and quizzes so that you can miss a few questions and still get a 100. He is very good at presenting information. Also, you can bring a 3x5 card to every exam which is really helpful!
He is honesty a great professor, very thorough which is good. My problem was the class itself, the material can be difficult to understand if math/economics is not really your strong suit. Your grade is based off a couple of quizzes and 4 tests including the final, he drops your 3 lowest quiz grades and your lowest test grade (except the final)
When I had to take Microecon I was SCARED, I suck at this stuff. Its a summer course and he really is a natural at lectures, funny too! He offers extra credit and drops lowest test and quiz scores! Very great office hours! If you're afraid of econ like me, this is your guy! You will have to study, but its worth taking him. A memorable teacher!
Dr. Scrogin is a breath of fresh air for us that came in to this class stressed. Lol. He is passionate about econ to say the least. His lectures are great & very helpful in understanding the concepts. No homework but you BETTER do the practice assignments to get familiar. Class is not mandatory but DEFINITELY recommended. I STRONGLY recommend him.
Very easy to follow, and very responsible. Definitely recommend him.
Scrogin teaches you all of the concepts in too much detail and goes on tangents throughout most of the class time. While listening to his lectures you feel as if you are getting enough information until it's time to take the tests and then you see that he has not taught enough to be able to understand the math portions.
I hate Economics for life. This class is very hard itself. Study Hard. You will only be graded 4 highest quizzes, one high midterm and the cumulative final. Class is not mandatory, textbook is not needed. His Problem Sets and Lecture notes is all you need. The lectures are so long. But if you love this type of class then good for you.
Took this over the summer (six week course). You don't need the book at all, but his lectures are really important, and you can watch them from home through lecture capture. The material is kinda difficult, but he drops a lot of grades throughout the semester, which raises your average a lot; I wasn't really even trying and still got an A-.
Pretty good class. Try to stay current with lectures because it can be easy to get behind with online classes. Study Cube helped a lot too.
Okay. I had Scrogin like a year ago but I had to come back and rate him because I'm in an intermediate micro class right now and I remember/understand everything so well!! And I can definitely credit him with that. He explains everything so well. Makes everything so easy to understand. One of the best, if not the best, professors I've had at UCF.
Has such a clear passion not only for Economics, but teaching it. Difficult class but plenty of extra points are given. Plus sometimes he gives out dollars during class! Great guy.
He is a really good professor! Seems to really enjoy his students and his job, was very pleased to have a teacher like this since economics is not my strongest class.
There is simply not enough resources you could lean on to understand his material as the book used in this class is not helpful at all (very confusing and each chapter covers a wide variety of topics we do not go over in class). Also countless times he would drift off of subject, sometimes intentionally confusing students and not addressing questio
Wow, I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy! Attending class is important but this course is one of those where you could vigorously study for hours and even weeks before the exam/quiz but could barely make a C. Hes smart but his style of teaching is not a style that would get students ready for exams or even quizzes.
He gave us the answer on our final exam! best professor ever!!!!
Great professor but I believe he thinks he prepares us enough for the exams which he doesn't.
Guy gives you all the opportunity you need to be able to pass the class, even though his lectures can be hard to understand if you are a typical student like myself.
wish I could take Scrogin for all my business classes. He is the best! Came in with no knowledge of the material and ended with a 98%. Never went to class, never read the book. He does all that he can to make sure you succeed. A real great professor and caring guy.
I would say that 75% of the class of the course being exams is tough but I really did learn something. He is ultimately pretty fair. 6 quizzes all have 5 points extra credit on them. Drops your lowest 2 and 4 exams with 5 points extra credit on them. the exams are tough but he does his best to help you out. Super nice guy. Tough but very fair.
Scrogin is an awesome professor. He's one of the few, in my experience, that generally wants his students to succeed, not only academically, but professionally. His lectures are detailed, but to the point, which helped make the material more relatable. I'd take any course taught by him again.
Good class overall. Lectures are clear and accessible. Quizzes are open note and online. Tests are taken at a testing center, but you can use one notecard.
Test are a major part of your grade, didn't understand a lot. Had a 60% most of the semester and finished the class with a 74% after the curve. Go to class and watch lectures if you want an A. Hes a good teacher the class is just confusing in general
Great teacher overall, really cares for every student. Only grades in the class are tests and quizzes however, so you gotta pay attention. Really good at answering pretty much any question you have while also providing good analogies to contextualize whatever his class notes say.
Prof. Scrogin is very well versed in microeconomics. He's very well organized and tells you how he will run the class since day one. He sticks to his word, but that means there will be no leniency or extra credit. I struggled through this semester and ended with a C+ which I am EXTREMELY grateful. Prioritize this class if you want to pass!
Its a huge class that is also offered via live stream. If you watch his class via live stream its pretty hard to pay attention and his lectures matter when trying to learn the math side of things to his class. Definitely try to do the practice problems that he offers, for many of the questions show up on his exams in variant forms.
he's honestly amazing. knows so much. if you pay attention in class (or if you want to watch the lectures online), do the practice problems (not graded), and study you'll do fine. grade is based best of 2 tests, 4 quizzes, and the final. (there are 3 tests and 6 quizzes in total). he's really helpful in class and if you go to his office hours.
Scrogin is a nice guy, but I felt like he didn't cover enough of the math in his lectures. All of his quizzes are online, same with his tests. He cushions in around 10% of your grade, but don't get too comfortable with that, I suggest trying to do better. There are no curves because of the 10% cushion as well.
He adds in alot of extra points but the quizzes and tests are much harder than expected. His lecture is incredibly boring and you will not know your grade until the very end. With the extra points you can do well.
AMAZING!!!!! i put in effort and ended with a 102!! im not much of an economics person, but this class was really enjoyable with him!!!! I dont think the textbook was mandatory, but using it helped me a lot. He also gives assignments totaling 440 points, but only grades out of 400 so its awesome!! scrogin more like BROgin
have never seen Professor Scrogin. Never watched the lectures or buy the book. I used his notes he posted on webcourses and his quizzes are essential to passing the exam. 6 quizzes 2 dropped, 3 midterms 1 dropped, and the final. On all the exams and quizzes you have the potential to earn 5 EC points. Key: Stay connected with your classmates.
The class (at the time) was lecture capture so you could watch lectures online live (or later). Tests for every chapter. 3 Exams, 1 final. REALLY need to watch lectures or go to TA's to understand the material. NOT easy unless you have a good understanding of Micro. I would suggest taking Macro first. Had to work my butt off and had a study group
Only showed up to one class, Online Lecture Capture at the time. Didn't open a book once, looked at a lecture or two. Only things you have to do are the quizzes and tests. Tests are taken at a testing center online, however the quizzes are online as well at your own convenience. Word of advice; Quizlet helps you pass.
After the final, be prepared to receive 10% extra credit towards your final grade. Plus, he pulls questions from his quizzes, and allows you to bring in a note card. I made over a 100% in the class, and didn't use the textbook once. Would recommend for an easy A
Most of the quizzes are on quizlet, exams are pretty much exactly like the quizzes, he dropped two quiz grades and the lowest exam (not including final exam). I didn't watch a single lecture since August and I got a B! He also had built in extra credit in all of the exams and quizzes, adds up to 10% to your final grade if I'm not mistaken!
Scrogin is great, super nice guy and cared about his students (it was a 1500 student class). Quizzes every week to every other week. I am horrible at econ and passed with a B! Quizlet is your best friend for this. He lets you use a 3x5 notecard for the exams too which literally saved me from not failing. Online lectures, didn't even watched them
amazing at describing and elaborating
Take this class if you're just looking for an easy A. I'm an Economics major and found this class very frustrating. If you actually want or NEED to learn this material, Scrogin will not teach it to you. He is very repetitive and includes 10% extra credit built into your grade so that every kid can pass. Easy A, but you will learn nothing.
I took this class with lecture capture. The material was difficult but he explains concepts pretty well. The textbook is helpful if you struggle with economics. When I took him he assigned no homework, but there were activities posted every week that were optional. He posts good study guides and notes so there's plenty to use to study for exams
no homework so there's not a lot to buffer your grade if you're not good with tests or have a tough time understanding the material. There are like 3 lectures and the test formats are god awful to understand. I'm not very good with math or understanding word problems but I'm not a total idiot I've made it to the end of college and this is hard af
Quizlet is the way to go. Decent and fair professor.
He's a very nice guy but the material can be rather confusing at times. To get very good grades on tests, you have to start studying the material weeks in advance so you know the concepts. Despite this, many test questions come from quiz questions/problem sets. Drops lowest test grade and two lowest quiz grades.
Majority of the questions on the tests are from him quizzes and his provided problem sets. You can find the answers for basically all quiz questions on quizlet. It'll help to understand the information first and then memorize the quiz questions. I thought this class was a breeze. you basically get all the test answers.
Don't buy the textbook he posts the slideshows of what you need for free. He is an amazing economics teacher so if you like economics- highly recommend him but he is not the easiest to understand if you don't like economics. Tests aren't terrible just work through previous quizzes.
Scrogin is a super nice and passionate professor, however the reduced seat time format is not great. There is not a lot of structure, and you have to basically teach yourself all the material. I was in the first section to have the new format, so hopefully it's set up better in the future. Doesn't curve, but drops lowest 2 quizzes and exam.
Scrogin is awesome, super funny and nice, but the format of this class is truly horrible (not his fault). You meet 5 times, quizzes are online, exams taken in the testing center. Lots of chances to improve your grade, lowest exam and 2 quizzes dropped. The material was pretty boring for me, but gets better if you put in the work.
He's a great professor, who's put in a pretty bad situation with the new class format. It does make things pretty difficult where everything is being done online, especially if you aren't a good online learner. A good grade is possible, you just need to work for it. If I didn't have all of the extra credit I would've gotten a really low C.
The professor is more helpful than the TA. Well at least one of them. But I didnt like the format which was reduce seating, where we see the professor 5 times out of the semester . Had 6 quizzes drops 2 3 midterms drops 1 and a cumulative final. Economics is a hard subject but I pass thanks for the extra points and dropping of the lowest grades.
Scrogin is a good professor. the new course format is not very good at all though. Got an A so can't complain too much. StudyCube helped a lot too.
THIS WAS THE HARDEST CLASS I'VE TAKEN! I didn't get higher than a c on any of the tests and trust me, I definitely studied for them. I was so afraid I was going to fail. He's a cool teacher though. The way the class is (half online, half in class) was horrible. MY ADVICE: read the text book and really focus on the problem sets. STUDY!
I took Honors Microeconomics with him. He's very nice and will go out of his way to help every student! The class is very difficult, but at the end of the day, he drops 2 quizzes & a test which helps your grade. Even though it's hard, I learned the content extremely well. He engages students a lot throughout the class which makes class interesting.
Honestly, the best professor ever. No professor cares more, or teaches as well. He expects work to be put into the class but if you do it and really take the time to understand it the class is very easy and rewarding, especially learning STATA. He is very accessible for questions and always helpful. Very much recommenced Econometrics with him.
Good teacher, but has he heard of webcourses? No announcements. no solutuions, no materials, nothing. A question based entirely on optional extra credit was 25% of final(!) No formula sheet - you somehow are to memorize all the stat. formulas + page-long proofs. Stuff not in the book/homework pops up on tests. Lectures are good, but not the class.
Dr. Scrogin really wants his students to learn, not just memorize, the material. Because of this, I actually really enjoyed his class. I had to work harder but I feel that I better understood the concepts because of it. He is a really smart guy. I would take him again, knowing full well that he means business!
Very good professor, but I do wish exams weren't so heavy
Dr. Scrogin is one of my favorite Econ professors. He lays out his lectures very methodically and gives valuable information in each. His love for Econometircs makes the rest of the class feel inspired to learn. If you struggled with Quant 2 this class is not for you. However, he will help anyone who is genuinely interested in learning the material
Great instructor. You can tell that he is really passionate about what he teaches. Seems like a really good person overall. His tests were reasonable and the quizzes and problem sets he gave really help when preparing for exams. It is important that you really LEARN and INTERNALIZE the material in the class to be successful. Good online lectures.
Don't ever take this CLASS. It is a trap. This class was supposed to be Intermediate microeconomics and it ended up being Calculus with few applications of micro. This was because just because he wanted to change the book and focus on Calc. I repeat you will not see the class that you signed up for, Never take him! be safe.
Scrogin is a hidden gem for Economics in general. I took his intermediate micro class last semester and econometrics 1 this semester. I also plan to take business analytics with him as well just to have him again. The stuff he teaches is not easy, but he will go out of his way to make sure that you are successful. Highly recommend him for anything.
Dr. Scrogin is a very caring professor and is passionate about what he teaches. His lectures are very informative and he does his best to prepare you for the tests. You are graded on three exams (25% each) and your four best quizzes (25%). The material/class is quite difficult but he is pretty lenient in general and makes it a lot more tolerable.
He's one of the best professors at the Econ department, really care about his students and his lectures are extremely clear and honestly all you need to succeed in the course. As long as you take your time to really understand his lectures and do the exercised you will do well, and he is always available to help, by far the best with online classes
He finds a way to explain every easy concept in a complicated way. Doesn't really answer questions. He's a nice guy though and grades fairly for the most part. Just can't really teach.
Professor Scrogin is a very good professor, but his class is very hard. Exams and Quizzes make up the whole grade, and can be very difficult if you do not study. He is lenient with his grading at times and overall is definitely a fair professor. If you dont put effort in I guarantee you will not pass, but he is one of the best for Econ at UCF.
Professor Scrogin cares about his students, not merely about grades. He would tell you that just because you get a bad score doesn't mean you didn't understand the material. He wants students to learn for their own sake. He takes his teaching with dignity and you should do the same. Take Professor Scrogin, you will learn more than what you expect.
He was a great professor who was helpful to the whole class. Dropped the lowest 3 quiz scores and decided to drop the lowest test when students did poor on one. Overall a great teacher.
Dr. Scrogin was an amazing teacher, but I personally just had a very hard time in this class. Study groups are a necessity! There were 7 quizzes and 4 exams (counting the final), three quizzes ended up getting dropped and one exam, but this was not originally in the syllabus. Find a good study group. You can tell he really cares about his students.
scrogin was my favorite professor that i have had at UCF. he genuinely cares about his students and would rather us really understand the material than memorize. his lectures are detailed and fast and you have to read the textbook too, but he is great if you have questions to ask during class. one of the best people ive met here hes amazing!
He's a great professor and keeps his students engaged. He doesn't take attendance, but I think it would be difficult to pass if you don't show up. Grades rely only on quizzes and tests, but gives back some points and drops low quizzes.
As many other reviews say, David Scrogin truly cares about the learning of all of his students. Although his lectures may stray from the book material, they are still enjoyable. I highly recommend working through the problems in the textbook to learn, but be aware that his tests include content outside of the textbook; his practice problems help.
I am rating scrog daddy years after I graduated so I probably answered the questions wrong, but he was such a good professor that I still talk about him to this day. One of my favorite college professors, if you have the chance to take his class do yourself a favor and do it!!
bro was fantastic. best professor i've had here so far. while micro can be difficult, he is extremely helpful both in and out of class. I recommend going to his office hours for help if you need any as he genuinely does care about student success. for the class: do the problem sets!! they are exactly like the exam questions. can pass w/o textbook
Not even close, best professor I've ever had. He's super lax with grading, understanding simple mistakes and giving partial credit, he makes sure the whole class understands what's going on. Take him if you're nervous about the future. I may not have gotten an A, but he has one in my book A+++
I was worried about micro since I struggled with macro the semester before, but he is one of the best professors I've had. He is great at explaining concepts and providing examples. He answers every question you have and is great at giving you the opportunity to ask. His grading is generous; he gives partial credit and the exams are all written.
Professor Scrogin is passionate about the material, though his teaching style can be challenging. Staying on top of the coursework and using resources like unstuckstudy ai make this class manageable.
Economics was really tough for me, but Scrogin did a great job of making it simpler. Super caring professor and really funny. There's not any mandatory homework for this class, but I really recommend doing the problem sets as they will be essential to you.
He is a nice, but I'll say his class is not easy unless you know a lot about economics otherwise this class requires a lot of alegraba and calculus. No hw no att only quizzes and exams that are on paper no multiple choice the questions are not the hardest but if you don't understand you will fail, he puts videos from 2002 so use outside resources
He doesn't provide any practice for the exams, is only what you get “teach” in class, his nice and caring but needs improvements in the course materials for students to succeed
Professor Scrogin is a very caring and knowledgeable teacher, but the course is basically calc 3 with some economic concepts. His exams are all multiple part problems that look different from the problem sets he gives and you definitely have to study daily for this class. He does offer a small curve on the exams however.
Honestly, a great teacher who gets even the most uninterested students involved. He remembers names and wants you to succeed, so long as you put in the effort. Lots of information that he ensures you grasp by repeating key phrases and breaking down the what behind the why. Very generous grader if you participate and he knows you are trying. 10/5
Oh my God. Do NOT take this professor unless you're a math expert. It was a nightmare. He actually made me start hating everything related to microeconomics. Super smart and very experienced, sure — but he seems to enjoy making his students suffer through an insanely difficult class for no reason!!! DO. NOT. TAKE. HIM.
