Take very good notes during his lecture. For the exam just memorize all of your notes and you'll be fine. Textbook is unnecessary for this course as he will tell you. Write down EVERYTHING he says even if you think its more politics than geology.
this professor's exams are hard and unfair.
"this professor's exams are hard and unfair." yes very true. Advice for those taking his class...he wants you to regurgitate all the crap you learned throughout the semester...so write down EVERYTHING..even if he talks about nothing! He might use
Seidemann is one of the best professors I've had! He gets you thinking for yourself, is endlessly helpfull about subject matters as well as any problems you may have elsewhere in school, career, etc. This man loves teaching and it shows!
A v.nice Prof. and really knows his stuff. Wud be glad to help u out after class!
Make sure you write down every single thing in his in-class notes. That is all he tests you on. No need to buy the book, just take good notes and you'll be fine.
very hard exams and lab report
good teacher, his tests are not difficult if you take notes. The book is not worth buying
He knows the subject well. Explains everything. Seems that geology is his life. Just take notes of everything he puts on the board. Same thing is going to appear on tests.
Very nice guy if you kiss up too him. Hard tests but doesnt care if you go to class or take notes.
horrible
you have to be able to take great notes or have a great memeory when it comes to remebering everything he says in class. you either need a tape recorder or not take him. he is clear when he speaks but speaks very fast.
too fast. didnt learn much.
hes a nice guy. there is really no need for a textbook, so save yourself the money. write down everything he says, and explain everything on the test, i cant stress that enough. EXPLAIN EVERYTHING. I got a B, so no complaints here
Nice guy, funny in a corny sort of way. His lectures are clear and concise, even interesting.
He's a jerk; his tests are very hard. He doesn't know how to teach.
Have to know everything he says, must take A LOT of notes, but he's very clear and helpfull.
If you need a nap take this profesor. He talks to much and everything he says is on the test. He gives you five essay questions and you need to know every single detail. He is an unfair grader, doesn't know how to teach and is extremly boring. You need to order all of Starbucks to stay awake.
A great professor. A lot of work to cover, he moves fast. But very interesting topics, and a sense of a class having a community bonding. A lot of work, a fair grader, but overall fun and interesting. A+++
Good lecturer. Can move a bit fast in class. You don't really need the book for exams, its almost all based on notes. Funny guy.
he is kind of hard and the tests are very hard too
He's really kool...has some interesting stuff to say before and after class. You don't need a text book in his class, but you better be a hell of a note taker! His exams prep you for more than JUST brooklyn college. A+
I personally think he is cool, but its better off if you have some prior knowledge of what he is discussing in class. By his lectures alone, you dont stand a chance for an A. He is a hard grader no doubt, but his class can easily be passed if thats all you want.
He makes all aspects of geology fun, even the boring ones. Need no textbook, but instead need 2 notebooks. Fun, interesting, and everything comes from class notes. BUT, hard essay exams, you need to study. I've taken him before and I'll take him again. Great professor.
Very tough prof. No textbook required. But make sure you take good notes from his lecture, as they will all appear in the exam. Very hard exam. More than half of the class fail. His class is very intensive. Covers a lot of details. If you decide to major in Geog, take him.
Seidemann is easy to get a good grade for, all you have to do is take good notes and on the two tests that he gives, memorize those notes. his test questions are straightforward. Dont even get the book, its all from his lectures.
Awesome professor, I actually enjoyed his class and learned a ton. His class is quite challenging though, but just study over your notes like there is no tomorrow and you will ace the class. I got an A when I thought I would get no higher than a B. One of my favorite professors in BC so far!
wow his exams are just the hardest thing ever. The lessons you understand perfectly but when it came to exams it was essays that blow you mind...think it 3 times before taking.
His lectures are ok, but tests are horrible. He asks questions that are weren't even on a lectures, and there is no book, which makes it harder to study. GOOD LUCK!
He is an awesome personality. No need for a book in his class cuz he laboriously defines everything for you. Lectures might get a little boring after hearing him for 75 minutes constantly but its not worth missing his lectures because the entire exam is based on lectures. He grades a little harshely but you will know exactly why...
i had him a while ago for lab. he made geology interesting for me. really nice guy.
One of the best professors I have taken at Brooklyn. He managed to make geology class intersting even for someone like me who does not like science. Cool guy and a good lecturer.
I had him as a lab professor about 2 semesters ago. He doesn't help at all witht he labs don't take him.
Nice, nice guy. Good lecture and very attentive and helpful in lab. Low pressure. If you don't care, he won't either. But be prepared for an essay exam and some serious rock action. Cool fieldtrip in central park. Worth taking him just to witness his silly feuding with Dr. Savage, NYPIRG, environmentalists and Yankee-haters. High energy.
Good professor. Made a notoriously boring class interesting and enjoyable, though a bit of a stickler on exams.
this guy may not be the easiest proffesor, but his teaching style is awesome. no textbook. clear diagrams. practical knowledge. if he teaches a theory, he makes it sound usefull, (god only knows how). it's like story time but with tests. make sure you understand everything he says, he is cool about repeating something or taking lots of questions.
This guy literally sits up in front of the class and talks for the whole session, yes he answers questions but things still aren't always clear. I thought i was going to do well on the exams but he expects you to regergatate what he taught. Personally i thing there is more than one way to say the right answer; i am not sure if that exists in his
This is one of the worst professors in BC. He masters his subject but doesn't know how to teach. This is an interesting class, but the professor makes the subject boring. he doesn't mind explaining over and over the same thing, the same way he said it before. He doesn't care if you don't care. He doesn't care whether or not you pass or fail.
HORRIBLE professor. Very unclear. Vert knowledgeable but doesn't know how to teach.
He's okay..but you must goes to all his lectures because there's no textbook require..rely on his notes only!! MAke sure you study his notes left and right because you don't know what topic he would choose for his exams..Exams are essay form and he doesnt review at all!!! Try not to take him!!!
HE IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! He thinks everything is plagairized, and doesnt give a damn whether you pass or not. He made my life a living hell a whole semester after I took him. I wrote the lab paper over 6 times, b/c he accused me of plagiarism, but wouldn't tell me how. He's AWFUL, please do yourself a favor, and jump off a building first!
Don't miss a lecture, actually don't miss a word he says. His tests are impossible. You must include every detail. Miss even the slightest detail and you lose 10 points on the test. Don't take him unless you are really good at memorizing every word a professor says. Every word you miss lowers your grade by a letter.
I really don't think he is all that bad. He is very strict with tests so review notes well. He does curve though. Other than that he is willing to answer questions and repeats as often as you need.
He's alright... Do not miss class and write down EVERY SINGLE thing that he says and study from that, you will do fine. I got an A. However, just come prepared with a double shot of caffeine.
Core geology with this prof. is unbearable! He goes into so much detail and his tests are essays!!!!!!! He's also very tricky in his questions and wants all the details memorized. Avoid him if you can because most likely your GPA will drop. Take him only if you know geology pretty well or if you have a good memory.
This guy is a very bad and boring teacher. You can't help but doze off during each lecture. His exams are too difficult and I never got such a low failing grade on a midterm before in my life. He also has this huge grudge against NYPIRG and makes it known to everyone the first day.
Great Professor!Very inspiring, smth that may BC prof. do not offer. Always welcomed me during office hours, very helpful and clear. Would stay after class to talk abt politics, geology etc If you think what do you need geology for, then he’s the person to take this class with. I had no interest in geology at all! he makes the class interesting
Better teaching another subject such as political science or philosophy. He encourage dissentment but takes off points for the simplest set of things on the exams. If you are good at repeating a professor words word for word on the exam then take him. If not, take someone else because there are no textbooks.
Professor Seidemann is very boring and dull. He sucks the life out of the class and makes it feels like the class would go on forever beyond the one hour and fourty minutes time limit. There are no books for the class. Therefore, you have to come to class and take good notes if you want to pass or get a decent grade.
As a lecturer, simply boring. Some sections are interesting but his lectures are too detail oriented for a no-textbook class. Excellent note-taking is a must or else you have a fair chance to fail. Midterm/final are essay questions where you have to repeat his lectures. Great memory, a plus. If you can, take core geology with another professor.
There is just one word to describe him-BORING!!!!!!!!!!!Every minute by him is like an hour. And I actually like geology but he makes it soooo boring. Everyone pretty much failed his class. He doesn't take attendance and doesn't know anybodys name and he couldn't care less about it!!Do yourself a favor and DON'T take him.
I took him for lab. He is fairly approachable & helpful. His exams (midterm and final only) depend heavily on memory. Make sure u do all labs and verify your lab work with him to make sure you on the right track. He curves.
he's a pretty cool lab professor. his tests are kinda hard though, you really have to know your stuff because he challenges you to think. he can be boring sometimes though.
He's Kool; but you have to attend the class if you want to understand the subject. His tests are tough
His tests are based on class notes. he is one of the best and most interesting professor. i love his style of teaching and style of exam because there is no surprise at all. it's all in the notes.
he gave me a C which i fully deserve. i was suprised i passed his class. his tests are fully based on his notes. so go to class even though he is boring and take the notes. remember every little thing. it helps on the tests.
i got a B and i thought the highest grade i could get was a C+. hes very interesting and is a great professor. i love the fact that he has absolutely no surprises on his exams but in order to do good on his exams, dont miss a single day of class....seriously!
Please take plenty of notes; and make sure you communicate your thoughts effectively on the exams.
He's pretty good, he could be a little clearer sometimes.
He is sooooo cool!!! He is the best teacher I've ever had! Did you know he won a court case against Nypirg!!! He is the best teacher you'll ever have! He gives As to those who deserve it and Fs to people he know do no work! Best class ever!
He has excellent knowledge in what he teaches and definitley teaches it clearly as well. You don't need a book, all you have to do is be able to memorize all of your notes and spit them back up for the test. Definitley open for any and all questions. Not a question he cannot answer. Tests are hard because too few questions and require lots of info.
He's a really cool guy. He really knows his stuff. His tests are a bit hard, but only if you don't attend the class. His class was awesome!
The worst professor by far. Paranoid about NYPIRG and feels that everyone must be passionate about Geo. If your not, then sucks for you he wont bother to listen or help you. Always thinks people are talking or whispering during his class. Actually points people out and tells them to move their seat! Difficult exams. Stay away. A bad experience.
He is very well educated & passionate about Geo, def. teaches clearly. SOMETIMES makes me laugh. U dont need a bk, tests are on the difficult side, REMEMBER everything the way he said it. Open 4any questions b/c he always has an answer. I mean yea he's annoying but ok to get by. Write every single word down and you should be okay. OK? good lol...
he is a very good professor. he not only can teach you complicate knowledge in simply way, the more important thing is that he teaches you the ways of thinking. to the exam, if you participate in his class and take the notes, it is never hard to you.
I found his class to be difficult especially since there was no textbook. If you take him make sure to take down every word he says.
attendance is not mandatory but u have to come to class to pass! no textbooks. the tests are really hard and essay questions.. (remember to answer what he told you so.. his class is not interesting at all. really boring. 30% midterm, 30%final, 10% participation (applied when appropriate), (30%lab).
He's very well educated and a very smart man, but his class is extremely boring. His tests are tough and he gives minimum preparation for them. He's not a the worst professor you can think of, but definitely not the best.
HORRIBLE!!! The most unprofessional professor I've ever seen! No textbook is required at his class! How can you even know what to study and prepare for if there is NO TEXTBOOK??? Can you tell me HOW??? And the tests are too hard! DON'T TAKE HIM if you want to pass, I urge you!
Really passionate about the subject and always wants the class to ask questions...No book and 1 midterm and 1 final...MAKE SURE YOU COPY WHAT HE SAIDS EXACTLY HOW HE SAYS IT CAUSE THATS WHAT HES GONNA MAKE YOU PUT ON HIS TEST...anything else wont work..hes a yankee fan...
wow i am really shocked with some of these comments but im gonna break everything down....he is one of the best prof first u dnt gotta buy a book so u save money n u dont need one because he explains everything u need to know clearly all u have to do is take notes and study it and you will do well on the exams
Worst professor ever! He doesn't really know hot to teach it all.
Worst professor ever! He doesn't really know how to teach it all.
he is great, very repetitive but its good because no book required so just write every single thing he says and just memorize for the test, he asks exactly the stuff that he talks about. i did all that and got an A. all the bad comments that others write probably because they dont like to come to class and take notes. Take him.
This professor expects too much from a core class . There's no textbook to lean on and his lectures usually involve some story which is not related to the topic. The exams were extremely hard. Hes friendly but that's as far as it goes. Way too difficult for core geology
He's very outgoing and proactive about how he teaches about this course. He gave us examples and analogies of how does Geology relates to the everyday world. One of my favorite topics he teaches for this course is Global Warming, the Scientific Method, and the ties to NYPIRG, which is the reason why I came to his office hours.
I REALLY enjoyed this class. No textbook is required, which is fine b/c he explains the material very thoroughly. Just take good notes and spit the material back out on his exams. What's great about his teaching style is he not only teaches the material, but the scientific method and evidence one would use to get to the discoveries made in Geology
AVOID THIS GUY. HE KNOWS HIS STUFF BUT DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH. EXAMS ARE HARD, ESPECIALLY WHEN HE DOESN'T PREPARE YOU WELL FOR THEM. HIS CURVES ARE A JOKE. ALSO NOTICED SOME DISCRIMINATION BUT THAT'S NOT HERE NOR THERE. JUST AVOID IF POSSIBLE. HARD GRADER AND WILL MAKE YOU FALL ASLEEP IN CLASS. MOST CLASS ENDED UP WITH A C. AVOID IF YOU CAN!!!!
Do yourself a favor and take someone else. He will mess up your GPA. Not text book is a plus but you must write everything HE says. His test questions are based off of HIS answers, whether they are correct or not. Does not help anyone out and expects a LOT from a CORC class. Find ANYONE else to take this class with.
I had him for lab portion of Geology and even though the material is hard to understand with the limited time we have, if you asked him to help you, he really tried his hardest to help. He always encourage me to do my best and not to lack confidence in my answers. I enjoyed having him as a professor.
Had him for lab portion of Geology. Excellent professor. Teaches style is crystal clear and will explain if you do not understand. Does not use textbook and is all based on lab work so attend to succeed. Exams are curved
His tests are kind of hard but he gives a nice curve. Attendance isn't mandatory but you must get the notes from his lecture because the 2 tests come directly from what he says in class. He knows a lot about the subject and keeps the class interesting. I would definitely recommend him for the core geology class.
I had Professor Seidemann for the lab portion of the Core Geology course. He patiently explained everything and kept the class interested in the material. I learned a lot from this class and am really glad that we had him as our professor.
Awesome lab. I learned a lot. Study for the final and you'll do well. This was the most fun yet challenging final I've ever had. Loved this class!
Good guy in general but goes way too serious with geology. I am a BUSINESS major but somewhat worried more about this class then any other of my 5. Having no textbook is great, but he does not explain any of the material and talks about random most of the time. His tests are really really really hard.
This professor is up there for being the worst in Brooklyn College. The only thing he is good at is complaining about how bad Brooklyn College is. I don't know why he still teaches there if he hates it so much, either way he takes it out on his students. Don't take his class if you are even remotely interested in learning or getting a good grade.
I had Professor Seidemann for EESC1010 Lab. He told us exactly what was going to be on both the midterm and the final. He was always good with explaining how to complete the labs in the most simplest way possible. He was always available for questions whether it was via email or office hours. Not an easy A but do the work and you'll be fine.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, HE DOES NOT STAY ON TOPIC EVER AND HIS TEST ARE SO HARD. HE DOESNT MAKE YOU BUY A TEXTBOOK BUT HIS LECTURES ARE NO HELP!
Not a bad professor! I don't agree with some of the stuff he says (he tends to talk about politics a LOT) but his lectures are very detailed. He doesn't take attendance, but you'll miss out so much if you're absent. There's also no textbook but if you think you need an extra source to read over, you should buy one.
Try to avoid if possible. Only 2 tests, 4 essay style questions for each one. The way he grades the tests are absolutely ridiculous. Takes off a ton of points for no reason. Somehow passed the class. No attendance but tests are purely on his lectures, no textbook.
does not put up notes on board, you must take notes from what he says uses board to illustrate and write words that people don't know how to spell does not use textbook bad handwriting material is fast paced gives extra credit if you participate enough for him to recognize you
Cool guy,really tough grader.
There's no textbook for this class. Talks too much about politics when it does not relate to Geology. Takes off unreasonable points on tests. Review session is just like lecture; he carries off topic, talks politics. Goes over lesson quickly
This is a tenured professor who doesn't use a textbook and just talks about absolutely whatever he wants. I was in for a total shock when the lecture were simple and understandable but then the midterm was suuuuuuuuuper difficult and I failed. The class is understandable and not horrible but the tests are extremely difficult.
Great Person but not a so great teacher. If you're interested in Earth Science or take great notes then take this class. He makes a simple topic very hard. Just take this into account. If the average for his midterms was a 23 what does that say about the professor?
Professor Seidemann gives amazing lectures and is a great professor to talk to. However, the midterm and final was extremely hard. I'm sure more than 60% of the class failed both exams.
I enjoyed being in his class, he doesn't use any textbooks and his exams is based on all his lectures. Yes he does ramble on about politics and his dislike for the school, but you just have to discipline yourself to ignore the rambling and realize what the lectures was all about. Make sure to write down everything, notes are highly important
Your overall grade for this class is how you do on your test. One midterm and a final and that's it. His lectures often go off topic and rambles about politics and what he hates about it. No textbook so it's hard to comprehend his lectures. He grades his tests harshly. Anything he doesn't like he will consider wrong. He would teach useless info.
Lectures are informative and there's everything you need to know for the exams, go to class if you can, he also talks fun facts about geology and real life scenarios. But the exams are hard because you must explain the terms in the way he considers to be comprehensive, read the questions carefully and answer all of them neatly you'll be fine.
Good and interesting professor, hard midterm and final but a nice curve is given. Attendance is spot checked.
No textbook required. All tests are based on the lectures he gives. He wants you to answer the questions in a manner that an elementary kid would understand you. (He wants to see if you really know it.) One midterm and final. No homework. No prepared notes, so youll have to listen and take notes. If youre awake you pass, if you sleep you fail.
He goes very fast during explaining, no notes how to study for the exams? Didnt learn much, self taught course (even though its a lab). If you care about learning than having someone who has good reviews of easy A hes not the one. Hes also, not easy. Final is a big thing for him I guess.
You really have to pay attention (or read the tb if that's your thing). This isn't easy material and he knows it which is why the midterm & final are basically making you explain concepts. ASK QUESTIONS! He is willing to spend a lot of time on one topic if anyone needs it. It'll help in the long run too with less material to cover on the final
Professor, Seidmann was one of the best Earth and Envt Professor ever! Always available for questions and was always there to help students. Many students didn't take advantage of office hours before this pandemic.
Worst faculty Brooklyn College ever had. Tough grader and do not take him online. He want to write in exam what he says but never gives suggestions acts smart but actually he is not. AVOID HIM
Tough grader and do not take him online. He want to write in exam what he says and doesn't guide you on anything. Acts smart but actually he is not. Avoid him.
Great lecturer! His lecturers were both engaging and interesting. In the beginning of the semester he asked each student what field they wanted to go into and then applied our interests as examples for the topics. He encourages participation and questions. The overall grade is calculated from only the midterm and final. He is also understanding.
Listen, he's a easy A but if you want to learn about the subject for what ever class you are taking, he often talks about other things. A lot of our lectures were based on politics surrounding Earth Science or other types of politics instead of Earth Science. It's not fair for those of us who actually pay for the class and want to learn.
Avoid him, because to pass his class impossible. He things every student should know everything as he knows. No extra help or extra study materials except what he says in the lecture. If he will think that you got smth from web he will report you right away. If you dont wanna be in trouble in college never take him. Was really sorry taking him(
harsh grader, takes off unnecessary points on the only 2 test we take ! Talks more about politics than science, doesn't care about students. my worst class this semester, avoid subject made ridiculously hard when it can be made easier. honestly just don't take this class, he doesn't care and will fail u :(
horrible professor, inconsiderate and doesn't care about students. only gives 2 test, midterm and final. He takes off unnecessary points on both, he mainly talks about politics in class and makes the test very hard (only short response!) i wouldn't recommend this class to anyone, i regret taking it myself!
horrible, AVOIDDDDD
avoid this class if you can, it was very difficult and he only grades by two things. takes off a bunch of points on tests for no apparent reason. worst class i took this semester!
Grades are solely based on two tests, one midterm one final. Tests are short answer only, wants you to explain the concepts and show that you truly understand the material. As long as you explain correctly you'll be fine. His lectures are pretty in depth and thorough. You can always ask questions if you don't understand, he'll dumb it down for you.
Extremely unprofessional in many ways and careless when it comes to students overall understanding of concepts and lessons. tough grader, only two assignments where he loves to take off points for no reason
its the type of class that you put in soo much effort and the grade is not an accurate representation of it. he talks mainly about politics, and is not very enthusiastic about teaching considering he complains often about the college. Not to mention he is an extremely harsh grader and takes off plenty of points from the only two test he assigns!
Wow this class was boring but what else can you expect from an earth science class? Doesn't give homework but his tests are very very difficult. I am very surprised he connected real estate to his lectures. I would only take this class if you have little to no choice.
It's a very boring class. No textbook. His reference to the score is only a few points. He doesn't even plan to give you any paper review as an aid for the exam, but his exam is very difficult. If he thinks you're cheating on a test, he'll even report it directly to the school. Whether you admit it or not, it's going to cause you a lot of trouble.
hands down one of the best prof take him you won't regret it. ignore the bad comments they just don't do well and expect to have good grades.
Sometimes, the professor rambles by talking about things that might not be necessary, but the lectures are straightforward otherwise. You will need to attend lectures, pay attention and take notes; the professor does not post slides or PDFs. The exams seemed a bit overwhelming but were tolerable in the end.
The professor's lectures can be hit-or-miss, but engaging with the material pays off. Textbook-free, with a focus on exams testing true understanding. Unstuck AI was a big help for test prep alongside the lectures.
Need the Lab Manual(Don't have it on the 1st day? don't panic). He's talkive and attempts to make the explanations entertaining, you either like him or not. Doesn't care if you have a lot of questions, happy to answer. After class is over, he sends the answers. Doesn't care if you come late, your responsibility to ask him for the explanations.
While I would probably prefer another professor, he is far from being "bad". The exams require you to pay attention closely to his lectures (as in every single topic, so take notes), understand and explain concepts. Realizing this allowed me to pass his part of the course and overall looking back it wasn't a terrible experience.
He cracks jokes in between his lecture, but nobody rarely pays attention. His yap makes people fall asleep. His mid-term and final exam is based on his lecture so pay attention no matter how boring it is.
He's really sweet and cares a lot about his students. I was having a really rough semester overall and he was super accommodating and understanding, and it's clear what matters the most to him is making sure you fully understand the material, and also that you yourself are confident that you understand it too, if that makes sense. Would take again!
Funny guy and keeps lectures fun but im sorry he wasnt useful at all for a professor. Not giving us any knowledge on the tests, like topic wise nothing. No slides posted no lectures ever, meaning if you miss one you're behind. If you have him I suggest getting a friend to help you out on days you cant make it. Other than that he's not too bad
