I love this class. I would come if he didnt take attendace. I do like history, but its hard to find a prof who can teach it with out making me fall asleep. I think he does a great job teaching, and I have high standards.
David Serafini is one of the best teachers I have ever had in my entire academic career. He knows his material and can present it very well. As far as jokes an humor in the class, it is somewhat dry and most of them you won't get, but it's still funny. His exams are fair (study for them, though). Get him for this class if you can!

David Serafini is a sexy man!
He is an excellent teacher, tells a lot of jokes, and he is fun, most fun I have ever had in a History class.
The class was not bad. He knows his material. He kinda treats people like they are stupid.
Serafini is a great teacher but the class itself is pretty hard. He makes the material very interesting but you have to really understand everything to get a good grade. He focuses more on the big picture of things than actual details when it comes to information on tests which can be good and bad. The class is fun but NOT an easy A!
Out right the best teacher i have ever had. He keeps the class entertained while still staying on topic, if you have the chance take any of his classes.
He made the information interesting
keeps things interesting
Very good teacher. Easy to get along with, funny, and keeps class interesting.
Best professor I've ever had, easily. Genuinely cares about all his students. If there's any way he can help you he'll go out of his way to do so. Tests are a bit on the difficult side (IE: All essay) but that's consistent across the History department. Greatest professor I've ever had.
Mr. Serafini is an excellent instructor. I don't particularly like history, but he makes it interesting. He has a great personality and sense of humor. This class is not an easy A, but an A is achievable if you put forth the effort. I highly recommend Mr. Serafini! Mr. Serafini ROCKS!!!!
Mr. Serafini restored my faith in the study of history. Prior to my taking his class. I felt burned out from all the dates and names I was forced to learn. In his class it wasn't so much about what was done as to how it affects us.. One of the best teachers I've ever had
Great teacher! He makes history interesting by telling stories and jokes.
I really hate history, but Serafini makes it go by fast. He's a decently nice guy and loves loves loves what he is talking about. That helps it not seen so boring. Makes a lot of jokes. Sometimes you just wanna say "get on with it" but other than that it isn't bad. Some pop quizzes. Class is midly difficult, but he does give study guides.
I don't really find the subject interesting but Serafini makes it fun. He knows we're all just taking it for gen ed, but it's nice that he cares. My only complaint was that he definitely favors the boys over the girls. Being called "sweetheart" repeatedly got old.
He is the BEST teacher I have had here at WKU. The class is hard, but then again all Western Civ classes are. He has a great sense of humor and keeps you entertained all class. The only downside to his class is that he does pick favorites. Besides that he is a great teacher to have and I would highly recommend him.
Minimal in class book use, if you have to guess... guess C!
Serafini is hilarious. If you don't like history, take him and he'll show you how entertaining it can be. Add him on Facebook--his sarcastic posts are perfect. This is just World Civ, people. Just glance at the book and take notes from his power points in class and you'll be fine. He actually gives "study guides" too, take advantage of that.
He clearly has good understanding of history despite of the fact that he does not have a doctorate. His class was fun. Tests are not hard and graded fairly. Extra credits available but you need to write something up like a page or so. A LOT OF READINGs. Never like history until this guy. Highly recommended for those who loves reading.
Lots of reading, but Mr. Serafini can easily be convinced to have an open-book quiz mid-way through the semester. He is passionate about the subject and funny. He easily gets off topic, but has a good grasp of students' attention spans. You often get out of class a few minutes early. A few, lengthy essay exams and papers, but not too bad.
Serafini is the best Western Civ professor at WKU. Period. He is funny, and he knows all his material. His classes are very enthusiastic. Exams are all essays so make sure you take notes of everything that he says, not only the power point slides. If you get As in the first two exams you can opt-out of the final.
He is an awesome teacher!
NOT IMPRESSED. I don't quite understand the hype about this guy. He is a friendly & personable guy- his class is easy, but he's a little too scatterbrained and slow for my taste. He teaches the class with the assumption that no one cares. I felt I could've learned so much more. Good for people who struggle with history; bad for history majors.
I believe Mr. Serafini truly loves teaching and history. He has a funny sense of humor and is very enthusiastic. With that said, yes it can be a challenging class. Just read the assigned reading carefully, and do the review guide before the exam, and you should be ok.
A totally awesome professor. If you love history, take this professor. If you don't love history, you'l love it after taking his class. Every class session was fun, and the topics were discussed in the most interesting ways. You have to do reading, but its all interesting so it shouldn't be a problem. Just a great professor, really fun.
A really funny guy if you listen to all his stories and jokes. Pretty straight forward class, the little quizzes can be hard if you don't read the chapters. I took this class at 8am which was why i lost focus but it would be much more enjoyable at a different time. I highly recommend him.
Mr. Serafini is a great teacher and cares about his students. If you show up to class, take notes, and listen you will have no problems getting an A in his course.
Show up to class, take notes, and listen. I made a B in this class solely because I got lazy halfway through the semester. When I took him for 119 I did much better.
Yes this class is hard, but there is no way getting around that because it has to be taken. Therefore my advice to you is DO NOT take western civ unless you get Serafini! He is the greatest professor for this class! He makes it easy to pay attention and he is always very helpful when it comes exam time! TAKE HIM!!!!
The Sources book is necessary because you do have to read a few assignments from it, but at the same time I didn't particularly read them so you might not need it. I originally had a D in the class, but I managed to bump it up to a B. Have yet to take the final, but writing bare minimum will not make the cut. He expects your essays to be thorough.
This is the first semester World History I is offered at WKU. Personally, whoever made this syllabus made it too challenging (like 300 lvl) and it's not Dr. Serafini's fault. He will help you, but keep in mind that you shouldn't fall behind at all. In this class, it is best to try not to take more than 13 credit hrs. while taking World History I.
Really nice guy. I liked the class. He was once a student at Western and I can totally tell he understands you have more than just his class to study for. as long as you go to class and ask for help when needed you will do fine.
This professor is great, he has interesting lectures, the tests aren't hard and he is very helpful.
Serafini is a really good teacher and makes the class much more interesting to listen to. Sucks at grading though, takes forever to give papers back or even enter the grades online.
Serafini is so passionate and you can tell that he loves his job and the content. He is tough though, expect to work for a good grade. His tests are pretty difficult and he lectures the whole class so you don't want to skip it because it's not all online. Read the book, go to class and ask for help and you'll be fine.
Serafini is a great guy. He knows you have more than one class and pretty much tells you what to expect each week. There is a quiz each week that are pretty easy and about a test a month. He grades quizzes pretty easy but the test are pretty difficult. He takes a while to grade test and put them onto blackboard which can be a little frustrating.
Serafini is the most awesome guy in the world, however, his class was so much harder than a 101 class needed to be. I struggled with it and so did my peers. If you want an A, start off strong. And study really hard.
Awesome professor. Serafini gives clear instructions on what he wants for assignments. He gives a quiz usually every week, but he hands out a study guide for it & tells you which part of the guide it will be over. The tests are more difficult, but if you put in the time to read the chapters and complete the reading guides each week, you'll do fine.
Great professor. Very clear in what he expects from you. Expect a quiz usually once a week, but he tells you what to expect on them. With very few grades, there is no room for error. However, at the end of the semester he rounded my 88 to an A. Highly recommend.
David Serafini is a great guy! He really made history interesting and will help you in anyway. You do have to listen, take notes, and apply yourself though. He gives a 5 point bonus at the end of the semester to help grades, he really understands us college kids and leads a frat in chapel. And not to mention he's funny and loves his coffee.
Serafini is such a great guy and is super hilarious. Very interesting guy to listen to and makes the class much more interesting. The class isn't difficult if you do the reading and come to class. Tests are hard but if you understand the concept at all, he is an easy grader. Quizzes every week but he tells you what to expect. Overall great class.
Nice and efficient. I had an 8.00am, So that weighed upon it, but I liked him, and I liked the subject.
Professor Serafini is one of the best professors I have ever had. He makes learning the material fun and u can tell he enjoys it. As long as you read the textbook and do the reading guides he gives you, the tests and quizzes are a breeze. Definitely would take him again!
LOVED this professor. I wish I could take him again, but I'm graduating. He knows his stuff, he's funny, and his tests really aren't that hard, just come to class and take notes. LOVE YOU FINI!
Serafini is a good guy. His lectures are interesting and his humor keeps everything friendly. However, his grading criteria is completely unclear. He also gives pop quizzes over material that he hasn't lectures and from my experience, the lecture does not reflect the test. Tests and quizzes all come from the textbook reading.
Serafini is a great guy. He's just really smart. He knows all about the subject. He gives long lectures & the class requires A LOT of reading. I didn't like the class but I liked him. I would take him again for a different course. He's nice and willing to work with students as much as possible. Do the readings, listen in class and you'll be fine!
You read a chapter a week along with another text and have a weekly quiz over it. Tests are essay format. 3 major essays. Stay up with reading and take notes. He gives a study guide for the test which is helpful. Just a lot of reading. Tests are over 4 chapters worth of material so it's just a lot to have to remember for one exam.
If you hate history/suck at history, he will make it more interesting! He is not a tough grader. Do your reading, study for tests, and you've got an A. He has weekly quizzes that are fairly easy as long as you read. Good sense of humor. Friendly guy who is willing to help outside of class. Heavy lectures but he makes it interesting. Highly recommen
I am not a history person AT ALL but Fini made this class bearable because he was funny and interesting. There were lots of reading quizzes with vocab or questions on them but never hard if you read! Not too hard of a grader and always willing to meet with you outside of class or view a draft of your paper and give feedback.
Serefini is one of the best professors I've ever had. History is not a fun subject but he does a very good job to make it exciting. His lectures are long but he does make them interesting. If you do the reading guide for the chapters the quizzes will be easy, and he is a very lenient grader. The class is an easy A.
If you go to class and listen and take notes, you'll do well in his class. I think history is interesting, so that helped, but his lectures always add some random facts that made remembering the information easier. Essays on the tests weren't hard, especially if you fill out the study guide he gives. Made tests that much easier.
Fini was a funny professor, & he tries so hard to make the dry content more interesting. You need to keep up with the reading every week (quiz each week). He assigned my class just one paper and we had several tests. Not difficult, you just have to keep up with the content outside of class. He takes forever to grade papers.
Serafini's class was pretty good. He made history not so boring and he did a good job not being monotone. I had him for hist 101 and I like how he would tell us when we would have quizzes, and give us reading guides so you know exactly what to expect on the quiz. If you just read and study a little you will pass. Def would take him again.
One of the best history professors I have had even for a student that has a difficult time remembering historic dates and events I passed with flying colors. He assigns plenty to read all relative to the class. Yet, lectures were far more important and useful alongside his passion for history to keep you interested.
Professor Fini is one of the better history professors that I have taken and would definitely take him again if I could. He is such an easy grader and he even tells you when there is going to be a quiz and what it is going to be over. He just made history fun and would definitely recommend him for World History I!
Fini is great. His powerpoints and lectures makes very boring content interesting. He also jokes around and explains the content in a way a 5 year old can understand. He also tells you what to focus on for tests. Also a ton of extra credit opportunities. Love you Fini! Time marches on!
I never liked history until I was in Dr. Serafini's class. He made the subject very interesting for everyone. However, be prepared that he takes a while to grade tests, quizzes, and papers. Very wonderful professor!
I loved his class and thats surprising as I hate history.
I'm really glad I had Dr. Serafini as a professor but there were times I wish I didn't have him. Whenever he took off points for test or papers he didn't fully tell me why I missed what I missed. For test, know everything on the study guide. He also gives hints on what is on test. If you are in any history class go to a tutor! That's how I got an A
Funny and engaging lectures. Made me actually enjoy history! Tests are not easy, but shouldn't be particularly difficult if you have read and kept notes. Tests are almost entirely essay based and can be a little daunting so give yourself plenty of prep time. Fair, perhaps a bit tough, grader.
He is a very charismatic person. His lectures are vague because you are expected to have read everything before the class... which I think is nice because then you can just listen in class and he'll bring everything together. He grades fair, makes jokes often. Just do the reading, study, and you'll be fine. Quizzes are easy, tests are hard.
Makes history class interesting. Gives a reading guide for each chapter that he bases test/quiz questions off of. You need to read the textbook outside of class before coming to the lecture because he will go over the highlights and show you what's important and help it all make sense. Good professor and pretty easy class.
Cool dude, great professor. Lots of opportunity for extra credit.
Chill Prof and he doesnt teach history the way I like to be taught History but in terms of overall take him. The only bad thing is that you have to read two textbooks which for me I hate but besides that he is chill.
This man is the GOAT
Could get information across in less time than he does, but overall a good professor. He's a very tough grader, so be prepared and make sure you know your information or you'll have trouble. Class is near impossible if you don't attend every single lecture.
He's funny and still has empathy for his students, unlike most teachers. Makes history interesting even first thing in the morning. Do the reading guides and you'll do fine. 10/10 would recommend.
I took this class in the winter and there were two quizzes and one discussion over every chapter. The multiple choice quizzes were easy and went with the book. There were two exams with a DBQ, short answer, and essay. Then there was a primary source essay. He is an easy grader, but you have to read the book bc there were no other lecture materials
Lectures every day in class, but makes it relatively easy to understand and makes jokes throughout to help you remember. Allows us to ask questions after long sections and is very helpful in his answers. Be sure to read for the chapter quizzes, the notes from lecture aren't usually enough to pass! Great professor!
His lectures made me really want to come to class because they are so interesting! He teaches history like no other and I feel like I have learned a lot. Attendance is taken every day and reading the textbook is a must if you want to do well on exams. exams can be tough if you do not do the study guide. Overall I loved This class!
Exams and short answer quizzes were hard. He doesnt really give any feedback to the answers. There is also one 1000 word paper, or two if there is time. His Lectures were fun and interesting. He takes attendance every class and youre only allowed to miss 4. Make sure to read the books and follow the exam review guide, and you should be fine.
Such a good professor. The lecture sometimes felt drawn out, but also I was in the T/TH class so thats what I expected. Tests were super easy & the were written tests, but if you know the material you should be fine!
Very hard grader. He takes forever to grade stuff. I would not take him again.
Fini is an all-around good prof. The reading is quite dull, but that's the department's fault. In spite of this, his lectures were really engaging and he knows how to command the attention of a classroom. While I had him during COVID 19, he made the adjustment quite well. He grades insanely easily but doesn't give much feedback.
Dr. Serafini is a pretty good professor and makes lectures somewhat interesting. He does not cover everything in the textbook though so some reading is necessary. The homework is heavy with quizzes and short answers but it is all online so you can use the textbook. The exams are also written and online.
I hate history but I greatly enjoyed Dr. Serafini. The course is not difficult as long as you submit the assignments and exams on time. The assignments are easy but make sure you have covered the info from the textbook. Dr. Serafini clearly cares about his students and made this course more bearable for people who aren't big on history.
If you have an 8am and want a lively teacher to help keep you awake, Serafini is your guy. He'll keep you entertained and responsive! This is my first week with him and I already enjoy his class. He is assignment heavy, but it's nothing unreasonable. He'll make you interested in history!
Great Professor just wish i was a better student in his class
Hands down a gem, do your work on time and you should be fine!
Serafini is hands down the best history professor I have ever had. He is very lively and interactive with the class. All he asks is that you listen to his lectures during class and submit your assignments on time. The assignments are heaving in writing, but nothing too bad. Take this class if you aren't generally interested in history.
Serafini is the worst professor I have had. He gets behind on grading and then grades everything the week before finals. This leaves you with no time to bring your grade up. I also found that I have the same grade for a lot of my assignments, so he probably just put a grade on them without looking. He also doesn't give any feedback. Stay away.
He's really a good guy and clearly loves his job. He is expressive and makes learning easy. There are sorta a bit assignments but they are easy and he's just a really understandable person and will work with you. I stopped going to the class towards the end of the semester because of mental health issues but he understands and has worked with me.
Serafini is a very good professor. He really cares about the material, and the lectures are amazing. Do read the textbook, it is very important. Overall, easy class, he's a nice grader and offers extra credit, and would recommend taking him.
Professor Serafini will have you laughing the whole class as you learn topics that would typically be less enjoyable. This was my favorite by far, and it was so fun. He gives extra credit, and the exams are things learned in class. I can't recommend this class enough, especially this teacher, because he is so kind and has terrific lectures!!!
Serafini is an amazing professor. He makes his lectures interesting and will make you laugh during class. He checks in on his students and is very flexible with due dates and is very understanding that you do have a life outside of college. I'd highly recommend him for anyone who is taking history courses.
